The top page is one of my favorite panels of Kyoshiro, and it should have been in the anime. What I got out of Kyoshiro's words to Weed when he thought his father was dead was basically that its healthy and normal for men and boys to show vulnerability, that people can grow the more they open themselves up to their friends, and those who have never been taught how to do that and only react to things with anger, hatred, and violence, and never allowing themselves to open up to others, can grow up to be awful people. It's a very sweet moment. But the bottom panel? It's almost like night and day. Kyoshiro became, well, Jyoshiro.

The Ginga series should have ended after the Hougen arc imo.
