a starter for @misteriios between lydia & cheryl
"you know i love a good mystery," lydia said as she leaned in closer. "but also how impatient i am, so, come on, what are you being so secretive about?"

ok but now that poll is making me sad because like the Witch Queen and Sister Carpenter would have gotten along famously with each other. Daughter i-maimed-and-mutilated-the-millenia-old-being-of-the-dark-mountain-who-tried-to mould-me-into-his-vessel Dooley, and Mallory i-stood-at-the-banks-of-my-river-that-has-made-me-who-i-am-and-thrown-affrontations-at-my-god-because-i-am-not-his-i-was-never-his-i-will-never-be-his Glass would be actual besties if given the chance.

ok so yesterday i saw this post about the wedding imagery in hickey's trial scene and left a tag about iphigenia at aulis. and in the time since that comparison has spiraled entirely out of control
i was initially just referring to the way the play draws parallels between the rituals of a wedding and those of sacrifice/death and the way the two start to overlap throughout
but then i started thinking about how iphigenia's sacrifice serves both as an illustration of the violence of war turned inwards and simultaneously as the catalyst for said violence turned outwards. killing iphigenia highlights the actual human cost of war by exacting it on a familiar insider, not just a nameless enemy. but her death is also the only reason the war can take place at all--the chorus even calls her the destroyer of troy near the end
and that reminded me of hickey and his unique relationship with the violence of the british navy; of the british characters he is undeniably the one that suffers most at its hands, yet he is also a driving force in perpetuating violence--in general, but also specifically towards the inuit
and i know i'm not the first person to point out that hickey is both a victim and a perpetrator of the violence of the empire, but i find it fascinating to approach that dichotomy through the lens of (ritual) sacrifice. it adds a new dimension to not just the trial, but basically all his scenes that are concerned with said violence. his own death (during a botched ritual no less) is actually a great example; it doubles as the final nail in tuunbaq's coffin. he dies not just for or because of the empire's interests; it's the very act of him dying that causes said interests to be furthered
anyway all that to say hickey thinks he's christ and he's wrong but that doesn't mean he's not a lamb on the altar

availability / closed! / 5 out of 5 / @bluestarters
setting / o'shea's irish pub.
timeline / thursday, september 12th, 2024, at 8:37 pm.
the school term had officially started, so anne-louise was back to working part-time at o’shea’s. which also meant she was already frickin’ exhausted, so soon into the school year. each year, it seemed she lost energy instead of maintaining or gaining it. she would have loved to spend the evening on the couch with her dog and roommate, but she needed the money—she could’ve asked her moms to lend her some, but anne-louise was trying to be more independent from them, not more dependent on them. they’d do it, though, if she asked. that was why she never asked. besides, thursday nights were usually pretty slow, so she’d didn’t have to work too hard. it meant less tips, too, but she’d accept that trade off if she didn’t have to move around too much. sitting on a stool behind the bar—she convinced her previous boss david that customers were respect him more if he let his staff sit down in view of them, and she didn’t care what her current boss had to say about it—she was playing hexa sort on her phone when she noticed movement over by the jukebox. “hey!” she called out, pointing an accusing finger at them. “you better not think about changing the music in here!” quickly, though, she faltered and dropped her hand to wave off her outburst. “...or, just wait until this one’s over, please. i like it.” want you in my room by carly rae jepsen was halfway over, anyway.

i think ppl forget sometimes that ppl who genuinely do not feel emotions do not do much of anything, bc u need emotions to feel motivated to do things and make many decisions. not feeling anything are characteristics of depression and schizoid personality disorder and both are characterized by lack of drive to do much of anything. often ppl use emotionless as short for smart and cold but truthfully those ppl are not emotionless, they must be motivated by something whether curiosity or fear or a sense of utilitarian morality.
and i think also ppl forget there is a price for repressing ur emotions. that shit is incredibly taxing on ur body, incredibly stressful. it will straight up make u sick. so all of this must be considered when u have a character that doesnt express themself much.

"I say, I don't suppose I could rope you into playing a quick game, could I?" Alec asks with an affable smile, indicating the nearby pool table which is already racked and ready to go. "Reds and yellows, loser buys the drinks - unless, of course, you're having more fun propping up the wall?"

" the cut isn't too deep. it won't need stitches the blood made it look worse than it was. " law continued to sanitize the cut with a sterile cotton ball, holding her arm in a gentle but firm grasp. treating such minor wounds had become a calming task for the nurse.

i have this half-genuine headcanon that the Order of St. Dumas just never mentions gay people. they never come up. probably because theyre so homophobic that unless gay people are relevant they're never discussed and as a result jean-paul was never taught that being a man who likes men was a sin because his father and others never brought up the lgbt community at all. and they do not worship the same way regular roman catholics do and focus on different things so there'd be no reason for it to. so any shame he'd feel towards liking men doesn't have to do with the fact that they're men and that's wrong but with his general complex semi-shameful confusing feelings about being attracted to anyone. #lovewins.

The book has a redhead named Rana.
(Of course, she has a 2m tall cyborg warrior woman trying to pretend to be her, so she’s obviously taller than Ranma.)
