finally giving fem danyal her own au and fulfilling my 'danny is an animal whisperer' agenda at the same time: mother of monsters danyal 2.0
i say "2.0" because TECHNICALLY 'mother of monsters danyal' is an au I made back in June for Dark fem!Danyal (who I promptly named Layal). However, I haven't posted much for her yet, and I like the "mother of monsters" premise too much to leave it only to Layal. Plus Danyal in that au was going to become the mother of monsters anyway, just with significantly less world domination and mass extinction.
'Animal whisperer' Danny has been something I've been thinking about since my latest DP 'wolfpack au' post and it's! So fun to think about, and who no better to assign the idea to than Danyal Al Ghul? Who comes from a family infamously known for their love of animals and nature?
Fem Danyal is just purely self-indulgent. *gestures wildly at her* i just lomvb,,, her,,,, I've only really mentioned her in context of the 'Things in Threes' au/my first Danyal al Ghul au with the facial scar, but she's!!! I love her. She deserves her own au <33
So kill three birds with one stone! Make a post about it.
Anyways, Danny has a large lair. Similar to cult leader danyal, her lair is a giant mountain region resembling nanda parbat with a big temple/palace-like area built into the mountain. It's large, it's overflowing with natural flora, with its own mini-floating islands hovering over some areas, and it's also completely empty.
Danny takes one look at her lair upon first meeting, -- noting that it looked relatively smaller from the outside -- and promptly, with the elegance of an Al Ghul, goes "What the hell??" Because yes, while she does enjoy her own solitude and privacy, this is a bit ridiculous.
For heaven's sake, there's even a massive lake in there! What's she going to do with all this space? Can she make it any smaller? Why is it so big in the first place? This looks borderline like one of the mega-islands!
She finds out later that apparently, the amount of ectoplasm a ghost has can have an effect on the size of their lair. And since she has such a large core, her lair reflects that. Wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff, it's bigger on the inside so it doesn't take up "too much space" on the outside. Don't worry about it too much.
Danyal isn't totally opposed to having such a large lair, she's just... a bit baffled by it. It feels like so much wasted space is all. All this flora and no fauna to enjoy it with. It's practically eerie.
She decorates her temple-palace area, transforming rooms to match her needs as she sees fit. In the center of the inner gardens is a massive tree that she likes to climb, with twisting, winding branches. Sam and Tucker have honorary rooms, even if they can't safely leave the specter speeder for long periods of time, even with proper safety equipment. So does Jazz. Ali (Dani) has one too, but he can actually use that one, and Danny brought him to her lair so he could decorate it himself.
She has a personal garden, but for the most part she lets the flora exist as it is. Too much space to cultivate it en masse anyways.
Skip to a few weeks later, on her next visit to Clockwork. She developed a habit of going to see him semi-regularly just because. She enjoys his wisdom, and he has a lot of stories to tell, and when he's not being the cryptic and esoteric timekeeper, he's a bit goofy.
(pushing my dadwork agenda here,,, i think Danny deserves to go 'hey, Lord Clockwork, do you want me to buy you something' while she's at walmart, only to receive a singular glowing sticky note that says 'cucumber gatorade'.)
(She insists on referring to him with his proper titles even for the most mundane of things because it's proper, but Clockwork sees a future where she eventually calls him "Cee" and by all things in existence is he determined to get there. Anyways,,,)
On her next visit to Clockwork, just as she is about to leave, Clockwork stops her and goes; "Ah, I have something for you. Hold out your hands."
Danny does as such, and Clockwork doesn't give out things often, so her curiosity has spiked to the highest levels. He turns away from her for a moment, using his staff to summon whatever it is he needs, and when he turns around.
He drops a fish into her hands. Granted, a fish in a small glass tank. But a fish nonetheless. A small one, roughly about the size of her finger, with a blue-black, eel-shaped body and four sets of glowing eyes. She can see thin, almost translucent, but spiny fins down its back and the start of bioluminescent markings. It's swimming around in circles in its small container.
"Lord Clockwork." Danyal says all too calmly.
"Yes, Danyal?"
"What is this?"
"That is an adolescent leviathan, Danyal." She’s transfixed onto the tank, but she doesn’t need to see Clockwork’s face to hear the smile he’s stifling.
The myriad of emotions that runs through her all at once threatens to overwhelm her, and she can’t tell if the feelings are negative or positive. So she carefully closes her eyes to breathe in through her nose.
“Clockwork.”
“Ah, I see you’ve dropped formalities.”
She ignores that.
“Why have you given me an adolescent leviathan?”
She's expecting the trickster to look amused when she opens her eyes. Instead, he just looks endeared. "I know you're fond of animals," he says, "and you always look amazed when you come across an animal of the realms. So I thought you might enjoy taking care of the young beast, it's mother is dead so it has no one to care for it."
Oh.
"But, if you don't like it," Clockwork's hands reach out for the tank, "I can simply take it back--"
Danyal shifts the tank out from his reach and hugs it possessively. "I never said that. How do I care for it?"
And so clockwork gives her a list, and when Danyal returns to her lair, she sets up a large tank in her room for the leviathan to swim in -- it's much too small for the lake right now, she thinks. She'll feel better if it's somewhere she can find it. She names him Suhā.
Suhā grows quickly, and by the end of the mortal month she transforms one of the rooms into a large pond for him to swim around in. He's a very loyal beast, recognizing her as it's mother of some kind. Danyal takes great care ensuring that her beastie gets quality care, and Suhā swims to the surface to see her when he senses her in the room.
It spirals from there. Somehow, Pandora catches wind that Clockwork gave her a leviathan, and so the next time Danyal visits the Greater Athens, she gives her a baby chimera. It's eyes are still sealed shut, Danyal can't bring herself to say no. She names the little beastie Firas.
Frostbite hears about it too, and not to be outdone, gives her an animal she's never even heard of. Infinite-realms born, apparently. A fox-like creature with two small horns like an impala, four eyes, and tall legs. The name isn't something she's quite sure how to write down, and she's positive that her friends won't be able to comprehend it. She names her Eira.
Getting the three of them used to each other was... interesting. Suhā tried to eat Firas when Danyal first introduced the two, and they've hated each other ever since. Firas and Eira are seemingly getting along. Her island already feels full enough with the three of them on it.
Of course, that's not the end of it. With her luck, she begins stumbling across other monsters. Realms-borne or otherwise. An injured hydra in the Grecian islands that, through lots of trial and error, Danyal is able to rehabilitate and heal. It routinely comes to visit her afterwards.
A griffin with a broken wing that she moves permanently to the island that likes to keep to itself, but tends to come down when she's near. It gets along best with Firas.
A panther-like monster from the Shades Woods that had six legs and three tails, with ends that reminded her of a venus flytrap. It stuck around the heavy foliage and she can only make out where it was when she saw its golden eyes reflect.
She befriends a young indrik with its leg injured, and much like the hydra it follows her back to her island, and stays there in the mountains. It comes out when she's alone, much like her other beasts.
She receives two more leviathan -- one from clockwork, and one she finds herself while exploring the deeper and darker recesses of the Ghost Zone. It was huddled against the carcass of its mother, and she managed to befriend and get close enough to it to bring it back to her island. Suhā is fully grown by then, with a head bigger than Danyal herself and he still likes to stick her head out of the water for nuzzles when she's near.
He's not very happy with his new siblings, but he's not trying to eat them when she's not looking. So she calls it a win in her book.
And it's not just large beasts either; smaller animals begin popping up when she's not looking. Bird-like creatures and small mammals, and she swears she saw a doe (or something resembling a doe) grazing in the forest while she was walking by.
She takes back with her a lone snake egg once, and it grows so big it wraps around her island and sleeps with its massive head on the mountain beside the temple, like some smaller breed of Jörmungandr.
And on and on it goes. Some of the beasts she comes across never step foot onto her island, some of them follow her back, while others she has to carry back. Not all of the ones that follow her stay, and Danny rehabilitates the injured and releases them when they're fully healed.
It's hectic, and busy, and frankly she loves it. Some of her rehabilitated beasts return to visit her, or to have their children somewhere on the island, or whatever it is they need to do.
She becomes a bit infamous for it. She goes to visit Dorathea once, and as she's walking through the streets she can hear some of the denizens whispering while she walks past.
"Is that her?"
"Her highness' friend? Yes--"
"--that's the one--"
"--Mother of monsters--"
Danny's not sure how to feel about that.
Although, she can't say she's opposed.

Amid misunderstandings, they uncover layers of unexpected qualities, eventually discovering a sweet love neither saw coming.
CHAPTER 1 ───────────────────
It was common, very common amongst the elites to let their children mingle, to marry them into wealthier families, alliances through marriage that brought benefit for both parties.
Yet, even after living amongst them, growing up with such a common custom. One that automatically came to those in the upper tax bracket, like a built-in lifeline, Y/N could not grasp exactly what was happening to her.
No.
She understood. But why was it happening to her?
Y/N was the only child of wealthy parents who had poured their souls into building their business, yet as their only child, she felt an immense disdain for their corporate empire and everything that came with it. From a young age, she was told it all belonged to her. Groomed to inherit it. The deals, the ties, the connections.
The headaches, the stress, the immense boredom of it all.
From a young age she was told that it was her duty, to ensure it continued to thrive, continued to grow bigger than it was. A duty to fulfill her father’s ambitious vision. To nurture an inner ambition that her parents didn’t realize, is not a quality one inherits.
Y/N harbored no such ambitions.
Her heart beat to the rhythm of creativity, her fingers itching to paint, to sculpt. Drawn to the array of colors that lured her with their vibrancy. Passions she had managed to hide away from her parents’ scrutinizing eyes.
Until she couldn’t.
The discovery of a double life that led to countless fights, trashed materials the young girl filtered out the dumpster. Cold shoulders, arguments ending with tears and leaving home quite often. By the time it reached that turning point where her father realized he could no longer control her rebellious streak, he sat her down.
A discussion that ultimately resulted in what one would only describe as a compromise.
“You get what you want now, and one day you pay me back.”
The then teenager keenly agreed, her aspirations of going to art school, and starting her own gallery with her father’s aid, took the front seat.
She chased after those colorful streaks.
Over time, busy with the whirlwind of establishing her own artistic success, her freedom, she almost managed to forget the bargain she thought she struck with her serpent-like father.
Almost managed to.
Of course it came back to bite her in the ass.
Y/N stared at her father incredulously, hoping his next words would reverse the bombshell he’d just dropped.
“Tell me you’re joking—no, you have to be joking.” Her voice wavered with disbelief as she looked back at his stern expression.
“Hwang Hyunjin!? HGroup’s second son, Hwang Hyunjin? Dad, have you gone crazy?!” Incoherent stutters left her lips in disbelief.
“No, this must be a prank.” Her head darted around the room, eyes raking the emptiness in hopes that someone would pop out with a camera.
Someone would laugh in her face saying “haha, got you!”
But no one does, and she only stood under the intent gaze of her father.
The older man’s stern expression intensified, and he sucked in his teeth sharply before pointing at her, his finger wagging as he spoke.
“That’s no way to talk to your father.” He admonished firmly. “You heard me right. HGroup has sent a proposal for your hand, and I’ve accepted.”
She blinked rapidly, clearly caught off guard by the news delivered so quick, one after another. A repeat of the crazy talk he had ambushed her with the moment she had arrived.
“What is this, the nineteenth century?” She retorted incredulously.
“Why in the world would you accept without consulting me? I’m never marrying that-that dimwit!” She huffed, watching as her father’s expression hardened, unyielding.
“I’m your father, I know what’s right for you. Marrying into that family is not only going to be good for you, but good for us as well. Don’t you understand? They view you in such a positive light, itching to make such an accomplished woman a part of their family. They jumped at the opportunity.”
She let out an unamused laugh, but it quickly stilled into clenched teeth, a sign of her frustration and anger simmering beneath the surface. Coming to one conclusion.
“Dad…Then just say you’re selling me off.”
Her father furrowed his brows deeply, pointing at her once more, but this time he was at a loss for words. He couldn’t immediately retort to her objections, maybe because he was stunned by the absurdity of them.
Or maybe deep down he knew there was some truth to what she had said.
She could see it in his eyes.
“There’s no way you’re doing this for me. It’s obvious why you’re doing this. Your company needs HGroup to back it up. And you’re just using me to get to them—maybe even taking it out on me because I didn’t want to inherit your business.” She asserted firmly, arms crossing over her chest, her eyes brimming with frustrated tears.
A speck of silence settled between them, before the old man’s expression softened, hoping that perhaps a cooler tone would allow his steadfast daughter to at least hear him out.
“I need someone to take over once I retire. You think I could leave it in the hands of that good-for-nothing cousin of yours?” Her father countered, finally revealing his true intentions, his voice was tinged with exasperation.
“—And you thought Hwang Hyunjin is a better choice? Dad! Don’t you know what kind of person he is? He’s the farthest from responsible!” She refuted, her voice only growing louder, more defensive.
Once again, her father found himself unable to respond to her pointed objections. Instead, he reached out and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. An action that made her flinch because she knew what he was trying to do.
“Right, I know he isn’t the best choice. But with his family’s backing, and perhaps a push from you, our business can flourish for many more years.” He reasoned, his tone softening even more so, as he tried to persuade her.
As if he was on her side.
Except Y/N wasn’t five anymore, no longer the little girl who skipped around her father. She brushed his hand off her shoulder, taking a step back.
“Then listen closely. There is no way I’m going to do this.” She declared firmly, her voice wavering slightly with emotion.
Turning on her heels, she moved towards the door, hastily wiping away the tears that had slipped down her cheeks.
“If you want to keep that art gallery of yours standing, you’ll do exactly as I say. Remember, you owe me this.”
Her father’s words were cold, the softness in it long gone. The daughter halted in her tracks immediately. Her figure tensed with surprise and disbelief as she slowly turned back towards him, wide eyes staring in shock at the weight of what he had just uttered.
How could he hold this against her?
She must have been foolish indeed.
Similarly in another part of the city, the Hwang Hyunjin in question, stared at his father in the same contempt and shock.
“Father!” His shout had resonated, rising abruptly from his chair and staring down at his father behind the desk in disbelief.
“Marriage? Are you kidding me?”
The father, who would have ignored him if it was up to him, handed his assistant some files as he spoke, not even sparing Hyunjin a glance.
“No one asked your opinion. We’ve agreed to marry you into the Yeom family.” His father replied coolly, unaffected as he leaned back in his chair.
“That makes absolutely no sense. Do I not get a say?” He demanded, looking towards his father’s assistant for support, but the older man remained silent, avoiding eye contact.
“You’re serious? This isn’t some kind of drama. Why are you jumping to such extreme measures—” His frustration peaked, but before he could continue, his father’s hand slammed loudly against the desk with a resounding slap.
The sudden noise stunned Hyunjin into silence, and he took a step back, his angry expression replaced by wide-eyed stunnedness.
“You think this is just about you getting arrested? You good-for-nothing slob. You’re damaging both your and HGroup’s image, and I’ve been letting you get away with it for far too long.”
Hyunjin narrowed his brows, feeling the weight of his father’s words bearing down on him. He couldn’t find a way to argue against the truth in what the man was saying.
“I’ve had enough of it. This time you’ve gotten your brother involved and I’m not going to let you ruin his reputation as well.” His father continued, his tone firm and resolute.
Hyunjin’s eyes shot up in surprise and stiffened at the mention of his brother, instinctively falling silent as he processed the gravity of his father’s statement. Sure, there was a small hiccup, sure he had been taken to the police station, his brother rushing after to prevent him from being thrown behind bars, but it was not all Hyunjin’s doing.
But would his father even understand if he told him it really wasn’t his fault this time? That his brother only got involved because he just happened to be there? That he didn’t start that drunken brawl.
Hyunjin chose to stay silent, listening to his father berate him, eyes cast downward.
“There will finally be something good attached to your name and you’re refusing? Hah!” His father’s laughter dripped with sarcasm, and he pointed at his son, glaring.
“Listen closely. You are getting married to that Y/N Yeom, and staying out of trouble. Got it?”
Hyunjin stayed silent, his angry gaze silently screaming at his father, who refused to give in this last time.
“If you don’t, I’m cutting off your expenses. If you want to be a homeless slob, be my guest.” ─────────────────────── The gallery director’s arms crossed tightly over her chest, her face twisted in displeasure as she observed her to-be husband from a distance. He sat with legs crossed, nonchalantly sipping iced coffee, sporting black sunglasses on his nose. His relaxed figure, leaned back against his chair as he tapped on the cafe table, glancing around, as if he’s come sightseeing.
She sighed deeply, steeling herself to approach him. Determined steps finally approaching him. Clearing her throat to get his attention, she leaned forward, closing the gap between them at the table. The dark-haired man peered over his glasses, observing Y/N as she stood tall, almost towering over his seated figure.
Hyunjin slowly took off the sunglasses, hooking them onto his shirt, his expression studying her frigid figure once more, easily guessing she wasn’t too thrilled to see him.
“You.” Her tone was laced with bitterness.
“Are you aware that because of you my human rights are being violated? Why in the world did you agree to marry me? We barely know each other?”
Hyunjin blinked, a little taken back by her sudden bombardment of questions before his brows relaxed if he’d come to a conclusion. She was definitely not thrilled to see him.
Y/N’s emotionless tone managed to catch his attention. Her gaze, her words, were oozing of some superiority complex, clearly looking down at him, like everyone else around him does.
He eyed his future wife up and down once more before clearing his throat and setting down his glass.
“Why? Anyone would be ready to marry me. Don’t I have the perfect face for the future son-in-law of Yeom Co.?” He leaned in, cupping his face in his hands, parading his looks with a pretty smile.
Y/N rolled her eyes and let out a sarcastic laugh. The sound of her chair being pulled back, harsh as she settled into it and sat across him.
“You think I want to marry you? Don’t be fooled, you’re nothing but your pretty face.” She stated, arms crossing over her chest.
Hyunjin’s smile faltered at her harsh but truthful words. He leaned back, squinting at her upset expression before finally letting out an exasperated sigh. His head dropped for a second before looking at her.
“Look, we’re both in the same boat. It’s tiring trying to argue about it. We just have to get along, that’s all.” He answered nonchalantly, as if his father hadn’t threatened him only two days ago.
The headache Y/N was getting from conversing with him was inexplicable. Running a frustrated hand through her hair, she took a deep breath.
“I don’t want to be in the same boat as you. From which angle do the two of us look like a good match?” There was a bitterness dripping from each word she spoke.
His lips twitched, fingers tapped on the table, suddenly sitting up and leaning closer. Offended slightly.
“And exactly what makes you a catch? What makes you so high and mighty?” He asked, tired of the insults she kept throwing at him.
Her mouth fell agape for a brief second, stunned by his directness and the shift in tone. The stupid expression on his face was no longer apparent, instead replaced by a cold gaze she was surprised to see.
“Hey, Hwang Hyunjin, you idiot. My father’s ready to sacrifice nine years of my hard work just for you.” Y/N exclaimed, incredulous.
He glared at her, biting the inside of his cheek.
It wasn’t like Hyunjin himself had gone to her father to ask to marry her. This woman he only encountered in social settings, getting glimpses of her face here and there. The only similarity shared between them was the school they attended together. But even then, they didn’t even exchange a glance, let alone a conversation.
“You’re not the only one being threatened.” Hyunjin began.
Then a thought zoomed passed in his mind, a sudden question that he didn’t want to ask because he had an inkling he knew what her answer would be.
But still he asked. As if he was actually looking forward to being further insulted.
“Would you have been happier if it was my brother sitting here instead?” He asked, studying her frustrated expression.
His gaze had narrowed into a slight frown as he asked. But she only rolled her eyes. Clearly disgusted by even that idea.
“I dislike both of you. If I had a choice, I’d rather stay single forever. Besides, what did your father threaten to take away from you—no, what do you even have to protect?” Her blunt words stung, further aggravating the usually cheerful, usually patient man.
The dark-haired man sitting across fell silent, his expression unreadable.
“Listen to me straight, speak to my father. Tell him you’re against this marriage—”
“Nope.” His abrupt refusal cut her off.
“I’m gonna marry you. I’m gonna make sure you become my wife.”
His gaze was no longer playful, instead replaced with an anger and darkness she had never seen in them.
“H-hyunjin…” Her voice trailed off, realizing his ego was preventing him from listening to her, though her provoking hadn’t helped either.
But something about this wasn’t right.
He sighed, noticing her expression. Amused that Y/N could even make such a face.
Hyujin chuckled. His fingers covering his mouth to stifle his laugh. Amusement in her shocked expression, in the big eyes she stared back at him with, unsure of exactly what was so funny in their situation.
“I’m joking. I’m really not a fan of all this as well.” He chuckled, observing her blink in confusion.
“But I really have no say either. You’re giving me too much credit for even thinking your father would hear me out.”
Neither of their opinions seemed to matter, an arrangement so ridiculous she kept having to pinch herself to make sure she wasn’t dreaming such a horrible dream.
But why wasn’t her opinion valued?
Why was she suddenly being pushed to reform the screw-up Hwang son?
She looked at him silently, her mind processing his words. Her eyes trailed over his smug expression, the tug of his lips that thinned into a pitiful smile. Perhaps pitying himself. Their situation.
Hwang Hyunjin, the black sheep of his family, a fact as clear as day.
Whenever responsibilities came knocking at the door, he would find a way to slip out another exit.
This had been the pattern ever since Y/N had known him, known of him.
Their acquaintance, though distant, spanned quite a long time. They had grown up together, their small social circle ensuring frequent encounters that neither of them particularly cared for to remember. And though they had never been close, his reputation made sure everyone knew of him.
Hwang Hyunjin was the embodiment of a pampered rich kid. While his older brother dutifully managed family affairs, Hyunjin indulged in a lavish lifestyle. Wore the trendiest clothes. The shiniest accessories. He vacationed in the most exotic places, had passion for flying planes, driving sports cars. Preferring excitement over corporate boardrooms, suffocating under the intent gazes of the corporation, the suits and the pale, dull walls.
His personality was clearly written on that beautiful face of his.
Carefree. Careless.
Meanwhile, Y/N, the daughter of ambitious, business-oriented parents, had fought hard to carve her own path away from their influence. Just when she believed she had finally gained independence, fate intervened, entangling her deeply in a complicated situation involving none other than this greatest playboy Hwang Hyunjin.
“Don’t you have a girlfriend?”
“Mmmm… I’m gonna have to end it.” He shrugged, as if it were no big deal.
She rolled her eyes, not entirely surprised by his response. That was Hwang Hyunjin for you. Tales of his flings and situation-ships managed to reach even her ears every now and then.
But a sudden thought gnawed at her. An imaginary scenario arising in her thoughts, one that made her stare at him with a sudden intensity.
“And what if I had a boyfriend. One I truly loved?” She questioned with a raised brow.
Everyone knew there was no such guy. That the only thing Y/N Yeom truly loved was her gallery and her career.
Still, he nodded, as if considering the possibility. “I know you’re depressingly single, but since this is a what-if situation—” He began, while her expression darkened at his jab.
“You can continue it behind closed doors, I won’t judge. You’re in love after all.” He grinned, pretty confident that it was an ideal answer, the right one she wanted to hear.
But instead, her expression fell, and she clenched her jaw in frustration.
It was clear where his morals lay, and she really didn’t want to continue sitting here, let alone be associated with him.
Except she could only recall her father’s words. No, his threat replayed in her mind once more.
The only thing that kept her sane amid the suffocating environment, the success she thrived in, independent from her father’s empire, was being dangled in front of her. It made her blood boil, and seeing her “to-be husband” sitting in front of her, nonchalant about the whole ordeal, left a bitter taste in her mouth.
It angered her that her father thought this man was worthy of her. This man that had zero care for anyone but himself. This man that had zero value for marriage, let alone respect for his “to-be wife” even if they were practically strangers.
Y/N slammed both her palms against the table between them, an action that startled him.
“Listen here. There’s one thing that’s not going to happen if we go through with this ridiculous ordeal. That is infidelity.”
He narrowed his brows, confusion etched on his face.
“Surely in a perfect marriage, but everyone has their needs—”
“Jerk Off.” She cut him off, stunning him with her response.
“Watch porn if you’re that desperate! But If I ever catch you having some extra-marital affair, I swear to god, I will make your life a living hell.” There’s anger on her face, words laced with a sudden disgust that finally poured out.
It was clear to the stunned man across, the notion of cheating was a touchy topic for her, but Hyunjin only narrowed his brows.
...Cheating?
Would it even be cheating if they didn’t really love each other?
But Hyunjin wasn’t really hung up on that. Instead, he wondered if she demanded such a thing because she looked down on him. That she thought he was a loose man who had no control over his play-boy instincts.
“Why? Afraid I’ll show up in an article? ‘Hwang Hyunjin of HGroup, caught cheating on his wife, daughter of Yeom Co.!’” His voice carried a mocking edge, as though he were already reading the headline from a real newspaper.
A laugh escaped his lips, tinged with a hint of self-deprecation. His jaw tightened at the sight of disgust in her eyes.
She could only take a deep breath, shaking her head. Y/N exhaled, pondering his words.
“There’s that too... but that is where I draw the line.” She stated, sitting back in her seat and crossing her arms again.
He let out an exasperated sigh once more, clear frustration on his face. They suddenly sat in a tense silence, furrowed gazes observing, watching each other. But neither budged.
Neither wondered why they still sat there when it was clear as day that they would never get along.
Their thoughts differed, their values didn’t align. Like oil and water, things that could never mix together, no matter how hard you stir.
And finally after a long moment of consideration, Hyunjin gave in with a sighed “fine...”, though she’s not totally convinced.
“Look.” She softened her tone, sitting straight in her seat, closing her eyes tightly for a brief second, unable to believe what she was about to say.
“You don’t have to do anything. Live your life, spend money. Flash some pretty smiles every once in a while. Like the perfect trophy husband. How does that sound?”
Y/N wasn’t sure when the tables had turned, how she was the one now convincing this rake to agree to her terms of their impending marriage. One that was starting to become clear in their near future. Because deep down she knew she had no other choice.
Well she did have another choice, but this was the easiest path. One that would bring nothing but headaches, having to stare at this pretty but insufferable face. It was better than giving up on her career...right?
A part of her tried to to see where her father was coming from. He valued his hard-work, his company, his empire. She tired to understand, as a business woman. As the ambitious daughter who chased after her own dreams.
Perhaps her father was right. If she could mold Hwang Hyunjin into a husband that doesn’t get in her way, push him into a role that didn’t require too much of her attention, this all might work out. Even though the idea of even standing next to him still aggravated her.
The dark-haired man let out a deep breath, annoyingly sipping the last bits of his drink, the ice clinking loudly against the glass. While she only watched in an irritation that grew with each smug smile he shot her between his sips. Purposefully grating on her nerves.
“Deal.” He finally voiced.
His acceptance didn’t offer Y/N any comfort though. Instead, it confirmed her worst fears, that this absurd marriage was truly going to happen after all.
That Hwang Hyunjin, who she had avoided like some insect growing up, was going to be attached to her side, tied to her in the pretense of whatever sham of a marriage that was going to happen.
“Will you marry me, Y/N?” He asked, his lips thinning into a grin.
He extended his hand for a shake, sealing a deal that had suddenly been made, and although she wanted to walk away from all of this, she sighed because she knew she was going to return his handshake. ─────────────────────── The wedding was as grand as one expected it to be.
Why wouldn’t it be?
It was celebrating the union of two of the wealthiest families in high society.
There were whispers about the unexpected couple. Murmurs of curiosity and excitement.
The rumors that were spread, created a love story straight out of a movie. That the couple had crossed paths again at a high-profile auction. Instead of falling for the pretty paintings and glimmering trinkets, Hwang Hyunjin’s eyes were drawn to Y/N Yeom, who seemed radiant as she shared her insights about a particular piece, her passionate ramble captivated him. Enough to make him forget his playboy past and hand her his heart.
It was an ideal scenario. Curated specifically for this crowd of their elite society, eating up the narrative, the romantic drama. The gossip.
Yet, amidst all the grandeur, Y/N sat in the bridal room, staring at her good-for-nothing cousin who had just dropped yet another bombshell on her.
Anger and shock simmered beneath her calm facade as she crossed her arms over the silk of her wedding gown. She composed herself.
“I already knew. I’m surprised you found out this late. Did you expect me to throw a tantrum and walk out of here?” Her lie was remarked coolly, though inwardly, that’s exactly what she wanted to do.
She actually had no idea what this idiot was talking about. But she couldn’t give him an opening. Allow him to attack her when she was vulnerable, allow him to get under her skin, something this parasite was really good at. Before he could utter more nonsense, she cut in, her voice steady despite the storm inside her.
“Get the hell out, I’m not done getting ready.” She muttered.
Of course he huffed and puffed. Probably the only thing he was good at, before he exited. As soon as his figure disappeared out the sliding doors, the sound of it clicking close, Y/N’s legs instantly faltered.
Alone at last, the weight of the situation and the sudden onslaught of information hit her like a tidal wave. Her cousin’s words repeated in her mind, wide eyes stared into the shine of the tiles. Her legs gave out, and she staggered against the makeup station, clutching onto its hard surface to steady herself. Makeup products scattered around her, but her eyes seemed to disassociate from the chaos in the room, welling up in tears.
The silence was deafening, yet a ringing sound in her ears was getting louder at each passing second. Normally, Y/N wouldn’t have reacted in such a way. Maybe she would have said something snarky, make the younger cousin cry from frustration even. Something she was good at. But it seemed like everything was finally crashing down on her, as if it dawned on her all over again that this was really happening.
There was a knock at the door that she barely registered amidst her struggle with her rising panic attack. Without waiting for a response, the door slid open, revealing her future husband’s lean figure as he let himself in.
“What are you trying to pull now?” Hyunjin’s voice cut through her turmoil, but Y/N couldn’t bring herself to reply.
Her fists balled tightly. So hard, her nails dug into her palms, she tried to calm her trembling figure. But tears streamed down her face uncontrollably, her eyes catching his reflection in the mirror. His narrowed gaze morphed into shock immediately, concern etching his face.
Hyunjin was taken aback for a moment before swiftly spinning on his heels to peer out the large doors, checking if anyone was outside, then closing them with urgency.
“Woah, what’s wrong with you?” His voice was laced with worry this time, as he hurriedly locked the tall doors.
Turning to face Y/N, he found her almost folding onto the ground, and rushed to her side.
The groom had come to check if his outfit clashed with his bride’s wedding gown. Despite their agreement to be civil through the wedding preparations, she still failed to show up at the dress shop to pick out their attire. Something about being too busy, of course. Though Hyunjin truly had no care for any of this either, he didn’t want to look tacky standing next to her.
In their ideal scenario, of the Y/N who met Hyunjin at the auction, she might have complimented him on his striking appearance in his black tuxedo, and he might have looked at her with love-filled eyes.
But that couple did not exist. Just part of a curated story.
Nothing about this was ideal.
Hyunjin did not expect to find her in such distress. Yet he almost froze as he looked down at her trembling form, almost gasping for air.
He had been called a lot of things, but he wasn’t heartless. He could not ignore her. Although he wasn’t sure what to do either. He crouched down, awkwardly extending his hands to graze her back, gently patting it as his voice dropped to a stern whisper. Soft pats that slowly fell into a rhythm.
“Breathe.” He coached her.
Her fingers tugged at his free hand almost desperately, trying to follow his instructions. Trying to soothe that burning feeling that seemed to ignite her fully.
“Deep breaths. Slowly.” He continued, squeezing her hand softly, brows knitting with a worry he didn’t think he’d have.
But as his eyes trailed over her crouched figure he felt a sting.
The silence between them was heavy as she fought to regain control. Her nails dug into his skin, and he found himself breathing deeply, loudly, hoping she would mimic his steady breaths.
“Yes, keep breathing.” He urged softly, exhaling slowly, trying to match his breaths to hers.
And after what felt like an eternity, Y/N began to breathe steadily, the burning sensation in her chest eased, leaving a dry, scratchy feeling in her throat.
She glanced sideways and saw Hyunjin still beside her, his face etched with concern as he took in her disheveled state. An expression she didn’t think he could make.
“Did you know?” She finally croaked, tears smudging her makeup further.
“About?” Hyunjin’s confusion was evident.
She closed her eyes briefly, composing herself.
“It was my father who proposed this marriage. Yours accepted because I would fit well into your family. I could keep you in check, the ideal daughter-in-law for his screw-up of a son.”
Hyunjin blinked, his expression softening despite her sharp words. He had assumed she had known all along about their families’ arrangement. One which her father had proposed with sweet talk and buttery words.
But even she was left in the dark.
Probably because Y/N was capable of actually having the courage to back out of all of this if she truly wanted.
His silence confirmed her suspicions, and she let out a bitter laugh, almost pitiful for herself, realizing the full extent of her father’s schemes.
“He planned for this since he made that deal with me all those years ago…My father did sell me off after all.” There was a mix of hurt and bitterness in her voice that she had tried to bury, that came out pouring with her tears.
Hyunjin sighed aloud before he slowly stood, gently guiding her to sit properly in front of the makeup station, his touch lingering on her arms as she staggered into the seat.
He wasn’t sure what he could say to make her feel better. What he could do to make all this less shittier than it was.
Hyunjin had already weighed the outcomes of marrying Y/N. And although it sucked that he didn’t have the option to choose his own partner, he truly did not see how this marriage would affect him negatively.
It seemed only she had gotten the short end of the stick. And it tinged at his heart, making him feel guilty for a decision he did not make.
Hyunjin was not heartless.
“We can go out there and ruin everything right now if you want. I’ll create a scene, and truly live up to my screw-up reputation.” He offered with a half-smile, brushing a tear-stained strand of hair from her face, a move that came almost naturally.
“Or, we can get married and then figure out a way to screw all of them over.” He suggested seriously, meeting her gaze with a determination she hadn’t seen before.
“Your choice.”
Y/N looked at the man she had branded an asshole since they first met, the man who would soon be her husband if she agreed. The man who looked at her with a new intensity. Steadfast... worried.
At that moment, she realized.
She had really been stuck on the same boat with Hwang Hyunjin, ever since she made that deal with her father nine years ago.
Everything felt like a blur. Y/N wasn’t sure what had happened or how she managed to compose herself as she walked down the aisle.
Was she even smiling? Did she appear to be the shy but happy bride everyone had created an image of?
The bouquet felt heavy, the dress even heavier. She felt like she was trudging. She felt herself focus on her steps. Right, left, right...
Suddenly, Y/N found herself standing before Hyunjin, his eyes locked onto hers.
The officiant had to call her name a second time, pulling her back to the question he had asked. One she hadn’t heard through the chaos in her mind. Though she hadn’t heard anything he had said at all since she stood here.
The silence in the hall and the intensity of Hyunjin’s gaze snapped her out of her thoughts. He squeezed her fingers in his grip.
Now was the moment. It was clearly written in his eyes.
She swallowed.
“I do.”
Suddenly, they were married.
The cool touch of the wedding band felt foreign.
Surreal.
She already felt like she was dreaming. Everything felt so unreal. So when Hyunjin’s lips pressed onto her, she froze. A kiss that had truly caught her off guard.
It was something they had briefly touched on during the endless preparation meetings. Ones Y/N managed to show up to but hadn’t paid any particular attention, allowing Hyunjin to take the reins, which he reluctantly did. Of course, since he didn’t have anything better to do after all.
Still, she was surprised. Amidst the whirlwind of all her emotions, she had forgotten entirely about the kiss newlyweds typically share, though she expected only a peck. Perhaps just a light graze even. A brief press of their lips for the cameras to snap.
But Hwang Hyunjin had a reputation to uphold.
Hwang Hyunjin had to show everyone he was truly in love. With the girl he supposedly fell head over heels for at that high-end auction.
He wrapped his arms around her waist, fingers latching tightly onto her hips, pulling her close to engulf her lips with his.
A kiss that made her gasp into his mouth. Eyes growing big with surprise at his sudden action.
She could feel his smirk against her mouth, his breath warm and teasing.
A new emotion bubbled within her. One that made her furrow her brows. Hyunjin’s daring act pushed away the anxious thoughts that still had seemed to cloud her mind. Instead, it was replaced with a sudden competitiveness.
Refusing to let him taunt her like that, Y/N responded to his kiss, fingers gripping at the smooth fabric of his blazer to pull him closer, to kiss him deeper, feeling him grow stiff. A surprising action he did not expect her to return with more intensity.
Hyunjin had perhaps met his match.
The audience erupted into applause.
The groom stared at his bride, stunned eyes taking in her content expression as she pulled away, a hint of mischief in her gaze.
“Smile.” She muttered, her lips thinning into a smile themselves, turning to face the crowd with a wide grin.
Hyunjin inhaled sharply, mirroring her expression, playing his part. Waving to their guests who cheered the newlyweds on. Yet he couldn’t help but glance at Y/N. His bride who was full on laughing now, at the camera flashes, at their families, the wide smile on her face radiating as they started making their way down the altar as a couple.
As if minutes ago she wasn’t lost in her thoughts.
As if her hands weren’t trembling in his.
Hyunjin’s chest tightened. An unknown feeling that pricked him. A little irritated that she could so easily mask her inner turmoil with show-smiles.
A little upset that she had to make those expressions, her eyes twinkling, her smile bright.
A little of something he couldn’t quite put his finger on.
The new bride and groom seemed to radiate under the spotlight.
Waving, smiling, pretending.
Suddenly they were married. And that unknown feeling persisted. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ to be continued.

i love you, clarisse la rue
summary: part two of unclaimed
warnings: none? it’s short, sorry…
wc: 1.2k
tags: @isnt-itstrange @valenftcrush
the day celebrating your birth came quick. all celebrations had been put on hold with the arrival of percy. clarisse was glad he was leaving so that everything would go back to normal.
once your bag was packed, you mindlessly walked around camp, kicking at rocks as people avoided you like the plague. like if they looked at you, you’d send them to the underworld.
your steps were big as you held a confidence you didn’t even know you had. then you were at the area cabin. before you had the chance to double guess or even raise your hand to knock, the door swung open, clarisse staring at you.
your throat was dry. all the newfound self confidence gone. you didn’t say anything, you didn’t have to. clarisse just knew. always.
“happy birthday,” was all she said. how did she know you didn’t want to talk about it?
tears gathered in your eyes and she pulled you forward into a kiss. a kiss that felt like it would be the last. why would she kiss you like that?
when you broke away, you hugged like there was no tomorrow. and maybe there wouldn’t be. your quest was to protect percy jackson and his friends in their quest. your quest was to get them in and out of the underworld unscathed. even if it meant you had to stay forever.
“i lo-“
“don’t,” clarisse cut you off. ‘i love yous’ we’re rarely said between the two of you. it was something that was known without being said. you love each other. you will always love each, even in death.
“please, clar,” you begged. you needed to say this. she stayed silent. “i love you. all the way to tartarus and back. i have loved you from the moment i first saw you. i will continue to love you even after i die. but i’m not going to,” clarisse caught onto the slight waver in your voice. “i’m not going to die in this quest and we’re going to live happily ever after, okay?”
“okay,” clarisse nodded.
your eyebrows furrowed. “clarisse, say it back.”
she sighed. “you know i do.”
“i know, i just- please.”
“y/n…”
“clarisse,” the tears in your eyes came back, but she still didn’t say it. nodding, you shuffled out of her arms, “i’m going to go find will.”
“wait,” clarisse said, reaching into her pocket. “for you,” it was a metal ring.
you didn’t thank her, just pocketing the ring and walking away. you didn’t go to will. you went right over to the far side of camp where you collapsed.
why didn’t she just say it back?
the afternoon sun bathed the camp in a warm glow as you sought out clarisse again, determined to make the most of your final day together. finding her near the training arena, you noticed a subtle furrow in her brow that betrayed the emotions she kept concealed.
"hey, clarisse," you greeted, trying to infuse a lightness into your voice.
she grunted in response, sparing you a glance before returning her attention to her weapon.
undeterred, you persisted, "i was thinking we could spend the rest of the day together, you know, make some memories n stuff before i go."
clarisse eyed you for a moment, and then, with a nod, she reluctantly agreed. as you explored the camp, you could sense her inner turmoil, but she wore a mask of composure.
in the late afternoon, you led clarisse to a nearby cave rumored to hold ancient secrets. the dim light cast shadows on the walls as you ventured deeper, the air growing cooler. spotting a serpent, you reached down, surprising clarisse.
"what are you doing with that snake?" she asked, a mixture of curiosity and amusement in her voice.
"just making a friend," you replied, holding the snake with a grin. "you never know when a serpent's wisdom might come in handy."
clarisse rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress a small smile.
as you left the cave, the weight of the impending quest hung in the air. determined to lift the spirits, you proposed spending the night in the ares cabin with her. wrapped in blankets, you both lay side by side, the subtle sadness lingering between you.
"i'm gonna miss you," clarisse admitted quietly, her tough exterior momentarily giving way to vulnerability.
"i'll be back before you know it," you reassured, intertwining your fingers with hers.
the night wore on, and as sleep eluded you both, you decided on a spontaneous late-night swim. sneaking out of the camp, you found yourselves at the edge of a moonlit lake.
the cool water embraced you, and laughter echoed across the still night. in the midst of the gentle waves, you promised clarisse that this wouldn't be the end.
"i'll come back, clarisse. we'll have more nights like this," you vowed, looking into her eyes.
as you emerged from the water, clothes clinging to your skin, you found a secluded spot on the shore. the moonlit night provided the perfect backdrop for shared dreams and whispered confessions.
with dawn approaching, you held each other close, speechless promises passing between you. the looming quest couldn't erase the memory of that night—the laughter, the promises, and the hope of a future beyond the horizon.
“i love you too,” clarisse murmured, eyes still closed. “that’s a confession, not a goodbye.”
the next morning, you were out of camp with a bunch of twelve year olds, playing protector. you lead them to the nearest bus station.
“you can stay with me, if you want,” you heard, making you falter. your turned your head towards the blonde and rose an eyebrow, willing him to explain. “when we get back to camp… there’s no hades cabin and you said the hermes kids don’t like you very much, and it gets lonely in the poseidon one, so…” he trailed off and you cracked a smile.
“okay,” you said softly. “i’ll keep you company.”
-
you, feeling an urgency in your heart, decided to make an offering to iris, hoping for a moment to speak to clarisse at camp. a small trinket and a heartfelt plea were left at the edge of the rainbow, a silent wish for a connection.
iris, almost immediately let you contact your girlfriend. a glimpse of clarisse appeared in the distance. as you approached, excitement mingled with anxiety. clarisse, always perceptive, furrowed her eyebrows when she noticed a cut on your face.
"what happened?" she asked, concern etched across her features.
you explained, "had to fight two furies. it got a bit messy."
clarisse's eyes flashed with a mix of pride and worry. "you're a magnet for trouble, aren't you?"
“i guess it comes with being a forbidden child.”
the encounter felt painfully brief. words exchanged in hushed tones, stolen moments in an alleyway. it felt like time conspired against you, and soon, you found yourselves parting ways again.
sighing, you left the alley, returning to the bustling street. the separation weighed on you. amidst the noise of the city, you couldn't shake the feeling of longing.
as you stepped back onto the street, you asked, "did you mail it?"
percy nodded, a subtle smile widening on his face. the idea to mail medusa’s head to the gods had been percy’s. you loved it. your only wish was being able to see their faces as they received the parcel.
“where to next?” the question fell deaf on ears as annabeth turned to some train tracks. it clicked immediately. a train from new york to los angeles… fun

THERE WAS NO PLACE IN NATURE WE COULD MEET ; SUGURU GETO
synopsis; it’s never fun to run into an ex; especially when the ex in question is your unfairly handsome high school sweetheart. and just so happens to also be a wanted mass murderer.
word count; 3.3k
contents; suguru geto/reader, gn!reader, geto-typical angst, exes to [redacted], lots of longing, geto is kind of a cunt but also disgustingly charming, reader is understandably upset, biblical imagery (i just think he’s so serpent coded), curse user geto is his own warning tbh
a/n; i wanted this to be a drabble so bad but it ended up just a little too long for me to get away w it so … :’3 yeah. i hate suguru geto (said w affection)
the moon is out.
in the shadows of the street corner you find yourself in, seated comfortably on the sidewalk, it’s a welcome distraction. something to look at, in the midst of your loneliness; the evanescent glow of the moon, illuminating your solitude.
a solitude soon to be broken. shattered into pieces, battered and bruised beyond recognition, jagged shards littering the asphalt. digging into the soles of your shoes.
”hey.”
for a second, you think you must be dreaming.
the figure obscuring the light of the lamp post in front of you is familiar. too familiar, a little too dear for your liking. as you grasp your shitty cup ramen, seeking the warmth seeping through the polystyrene, all you can do is stare. blinking dumbly, drowsily.
geto looks something like a bad omen.
sharp facial features, even sharper eyes. so dark they almost shift from an amber-tainted cedar into an obsidian black — two abysses, staring into your soul, beckoning you closer. they were always enchanting, but now you think they look almost hypnotizing. not at all in a good way. dark hair frames his face, cascading down his back, longer than you remember it being. and he’s wearing robes.
still has those fucked up bangs, though. of all the things to keep.
the gears of your mind turn, endlessly, untangling the mess of thoughts inside your brain. ensuring you that no, you are not hallucinating, and no, you didn’t fall into a deep slumber somewhere between the moment you exited the convenience store and sat down by one of tokyo’s empty street corners. this is real. a reality you can’t comprehend, can’t even begin to process.
what stands in front of you is a ghost. but ghosts don’t exist, can’t be seen, can’t touch the living.
(so how is he able to haunt you like this?)
what eventually jolts you out of your silent stupor is not the questioning tilt of his head, nor the suffocating sensation of your heart crawling up your throat, but the feeling of soft fur against your leg. the stray cat you met further down the street meows at you, sweetly, trying to get your attention. you think she must be asking for more grilled fish.
so, completely ignoring the apparition in front of you, you turn to reach for the little plastic bag you bought as a midnight snack — digging out a bit of fish for the kitty to enjoy. she seems happy, settling down by your feet. purring softly.
geto watches, eerily silent.
(maybe he’s upset that you’re ruining his dramatic entrance. you hope so.)
finally, you have no choice but to look at him. a lump forms in the back of your throat, clogging up a little more for every second spent falling into the trap he’s laid out for you, trailing over his moonlit features with your tired gaze.
mouth full of noodles, staring holes into his attire, you narrow your eyes. suddenly disgruntled.
his lips quirk up. ”something the matter?” he asks, and you can’t even begin to describe how much you hate his voice. how devastatingly deep it is, during the late hours of the night, even deeper than it was back in high school.
slurping up the soggy noodles, you lean back a little, licking some broth off your lips. finally meeting those abyssal eyes.
”… i was gonna say those robes look like shit on you,” comes an exhale, weary, ”but you actually kinda pull them off. that’s…”
a beat. you struggle to find the right word.
”annoying.”
geto’s lips curl up, smoothly, and you find a hint of familiar amusement in the vague crinkle of his eyes. barely visible crows’ feet. then he’s moving — plopping down right beside you, robes fluttering with the breeze.
”well, thank you.” he hums; crossing his legs.
the silence that festers around you is odd. not quite suffocating, nor especially fragile. definitely not comforting. it’s familiar, yet different, and it hurts a bit more than it should. but you choose to look at him, out of the corner of your eye, and he looks right back at you. still smiling that eerie smile.
when your eyes settle on the particular cloth wrapped around his torso, you just barely manage to bite back a taunting chuckle.
”a gojo-kesa, huh?” you grin, and geto doesn’t flinch. he doesn’t miss the meaningful glint in your eyes, either. ”you miss him that much?”
”just a coincidence,” is all he answers. smiling, but you think it looks a little stiff.
your grin widens, for a second, before settling back down. a sad transition. you let it go.
”whatever you say, geto.”
at that, he visibly reacts. barely noticeable, but it’s there — a twitch of his lithe fingers, an unknown something that flickers through the scope of his iris. when he looks at you, a neutral smile is playing at his lips.
”ah. i take it we’re not on first name basis anymore, then?” he asks, casually, hiding a tinge of something mildly displeased.
a shrug. you pick at what’s left of your ramen with your chopsticks, a little too nauseous to enjoy it. ”call me what you want. i just don’t see suguru when i look at you, y’know?” leaning forward, you begin to pet the kitty by your feet. ”he was sweeter.”
geto smiles. almost a grin, but not quite there. a chuckle spills out from his lips, and something about it irritates you. ”was he?”
”yeah,” you nod. without hesitation. a summer-stained memory blooms behind your eyelids, but you try not to look at it. all you catch is a glimpse of cherry blossoms. ”you just seem bitter.”
the grin that finds its way onto your lips is self-deprecating. a shadow falls over your face.
”guess we’re in the same boat, huh?”
a hum buzzes in his throat. he casts a meaningful glance towards your hand, scratching behind the cat’s ear. ”oh, i don’t know about that.” his smile grows with the drawl. ”.. you seem just as sweet as always.”
to your grave annoyance, you can’t control the way your face changes at his words. a twitch of your lips gives away your discontentment, and something sour settles on the tip of your tongue.
(your blood begins to boil, beneath your skin.)
geto sighs, suddenly, filling the tense silence between you — a little theatrical. ”ah, but that’s a shame.” he turns to you, soft pout playing at his lips. ”i was hoping i could hear you call me suguru again…”
”— i was hoping you’d come back.”
a beat.
somewhere outside your vision, a crow takes flight into the night sky. swallowed by darkness, melting into that sea of black. no longer perceivable, by you or the world.
”but you never did,” the polystyrene of the plastic cup crinkles beneath your fingers. your eyes look dull. ”so what the fuck do you want, exactly?”
…
”i heard.” geto rests his jaw on the heel of his palm, gazing at you with those piercing eyes. like he’s trying to see inside your brain. ”… about your decision.”
”ah,” a grin splits across the curve of your lips, showing off the white of your teeth. ”of course. that’s what this is about, huh?”
with groggy movements, you throw away your nearly-empty cup of noodles, haphazardly aiming towards a trash can across the street. it bounces off the steel cover, landing on the ground with a soft thud. leftover broth spilling out across the pavement. geto doesn’t bother to hide his amusement, lips twitching upwards before he sends a curse to eat it from the asphalt.
you furrow your brows in embarrassed annoyance.
a moment passes, and something in you knows that he’s waiting. it’s like you can practically sense it, like it’s etched into your bones. the same way you always knew exactly when he would begin to get impatient during your nightly convenience store runs back in high school — after you had spent about ten solid minutes struggling to decide what kind of chips you wanted.
”what can i say?” you lean back, palms against rough concrete, breathing in the midnight air. ”you inspired me.”
geto tilts his head. smiling. always, always smiling. he smiled at you the day before he massacred that village, too. ”oh?”
with a deep breath, cool air courses through your body. burning your lungs. ”i realized being a sorcerer is completely fucking meaningless,” you exhale through your nose. ”and that trying to change that fact is even more meaningless.”
a wicked, rueful grin rests on your lips. ”so i left.”
geto doesn’t say anything. you continue, voice dripping with venom.
”i’m a civilian now,” you purr, mocking, a sardonic coo on your tongue. ”does that bother you? feel like killing me?”
…
his smile looks a little off, now. tilted in a direction you don’t want to recognize. you don’t care to examine it further, don’t care to figure out if it might look just a little bit sad, because that’d only hurt more.
so you look away.
a click of his tongue. then he speaks, with that honeyed voice, raspy and husky. almost a groan. ”well, i can’t say i approve.”
he’s looking at you. sharp eyes digging into your skin, dissecting you, a million words he expects you to grasp from that look alone.
”you’re better than them, he states, matter-of-factly, and you try not to squirm when his eyes trail over your features. ”worlds better.” his voice sounds almost motherly, a twisted concern that makes you cower a little. like he’s scolding you. a crease between his brows.
”i don’t like the thought of you surrounded by these animals.”
a huff pushes past your lips, but it sounds shakier than you’d like it to. you hope he just chalks it up to the chill of the air. then again, when has he ever made anything easy for you?
”what, you got a problem with cats now?” you reach for the little furball licking grilled fish off the concrete, picking it up. cradling it close. ”gonna go on a cat-killing spree?”
an amused exhale. geto narrows his eyes. ”funny,” he hums, but his eyes say you know what i mean.
it takes you a moment to regain control over your breathing. there’s still something tense in your shoulders, and your heart still feels a little like it might jump out of your throat and crawl into his lap. the stray cat slips from your grasp, moving towards geto, curiously sniffing at his robes. he looks at it with no ill intent, and it puts you at ease.
”well, i appreciate the concern, buddy,” you pat his back, trying not to flinch at the contact. trying to appear relaxed. ”but frankly, i don’t give a shit. i actually like my job, unlike literally every single sorcerer on planet earth.”
geto stills.
”.. buddy?” he echoes, ignoring every other bitter word you just graced him with. for some reason, he actually seems visibly bothered. ”i’m buddy now?”
you click your tongue. muttering, tiredly. a little exasperated. ”.. what else would you be?”
and then he smiles, again. only this time, it looks oddly genuine. the same as you remember, framed by cherry blossoms and the fizzle of youth.
his movements are smooth. like he’s completely unguarded, like this situation doesn’t bother him in the slightest. elegant, in the way he leans back, palms on the concrete to support his weight. keeping eye contact with you, all the while.
when he speaks, his voice has a sweet tinge to it. nostalgic, maybe. wistful. if you hear a touch of longing, you choose to ignore it.
”i seem to recall you calling me baby quite a lot,” he hums, and you stiffen. gritting your teeth. eyes darkening, but he continues. ”what else was there? angel, i think… it was sweet.”
then he’s leaning forward. scratching the cat under its chin, gently. ”ironic, though.”
an inhale. then, an exhale. they’re a little shaky, a little meek, but at least they make the lump in your throat feel less like it’s blocking your windpipe. air fills your lungs, but it tastes like nothing at all.
something like sorrow simmers in your eyes. or maybe more like fatigue. god, you really want to cry.
(you wonder if he gets some sickening satisfaction out of seeing you like this, out of breaking you. maybe it just makes him feel rotten. you don’t know what you’d prefer.)
”suguru,” you murmur, at last. voice dripping with exhaustion. defeated, the sigh that flows from your lips. ”why did you come here?”
…
”join me.”
the words spill out into the open air, slicing the silence in half. heavy. a request, not a question. against your better judgement, you turn your head to meet his gaze.
”we could use you,” he says, and there’s hope in those keen eyes. he maintains his distance, but for some reason you still feel like prey being sized up by a predator. like he’s weighing your value.
a chuckle slips from your lips, but there’s no humour to it. ”use me…” you echo, a tired murmur under your breath. ”you're just straight up admitting it, huh? kinda refreshing.”
”that’s not what i meant.”
he inches closer. slowly, as if trying not to scare you. reaching out, to brush through your bangs, his fingertips ghosting over your skin. tangling them between your locks, inserting himself into your space. testing the waters.
you don’t look at him, completely still. barely breathing. like a wounded animal.
”i want you there,” he says, and it comes out almost as a whisper. ”with us.”
unable to resist the temptation, you indulge in a single brief glance his way. his eyes look warm, and his lips look soft as they part.
”with me.”
there’s a devotion to his voice when he continues, one he’s always had. one you thought you’d always be able to trust. ”i’ll create a world where you can be happy,” he vows. ”i swear it.”
a moment passes.
(you swallow thickly. it takes everything you have not to burst into tears. when you remember how he brushed you off, back then, it gets a little easier. when you remember all the skipped meals.)
”.. like you give a damn.”
geto smiles. you loathe how soft it looks, how similar it is to the one suguru always had. when you used to eat your ramen too quickly and started choking on it, and he brought a palm to your upper back, patting it gently. he’d chuckle, and tell you to slow down, and the softness of his smile would almost be enough to distract you from the amusement in his eyes.
”my love.”
you flinch. breath drawing back at the base of your throat, heart screeching to a halt, and some part of you emerges; the shy, sweet kid you used to be. hanging on to his every world. like he was your sun, your guiding light. back when that purr of my love had you blushing furiously, not choking back a string of curses.
it’s sudden, and you can’t react the way you want to. you want to kill him for calling you that. for thinking he has any right to call you his, anymore.
but that sweet, naive, innocent little kid still exists. even if you want to pretend otherwise. it’s there, somewhere, that part of you — peeking out from behind the curtain. and it stops you from saying anything that might hurt him.
(it’s so hard to hate him when he calls you that.)
if geto notices your inner turmoil — he must — then he doesn’t mention it. you don’t say anything, but you hope the amused, harsh exhale you partake in is signal enough for him to cut it off. now.
yet he continues. there’s love in his voice when he speaks, barely contained. if he’s trying not to hurt you he’s doing an awful job.
”… i never stopped thinking of you,” he whispers, so low you almost miss it. ”not once. i left for you, not just for myself.”
and, despite every part of your being resisting it, a sweetness settles on your tongue. so sweet it’s sickening; the thought that maybe he’s telling the truth, maybe he really has been thinking of you. maybe you’re more to him than just a means to meet an end, or a memory yet to be buried.
geto looks at the moon. bathed in moonlight, he looks a little like a god. like something reverent. his voice is honeyed. low, like a secret.
”this world doesn't deserve you.”
silence.
a subtle anger trickles through your veins, a kind of fury, subdued, carefully tucked away. sparking to life inside the depths of your eyes when you look at him. bitter, given everything. but your voice still comes out sounding something like a plea.
”and you think you do?”
another smile. this time, it looks a little sad. remorseful, maybe. ”… let me prove myself.”
his touch burns. the pads of his fingers against your cold skin, cupping your cheek. slithering down to grasp your hand. and you’re pliant, unable to react. just sitting with that aching hollow feeling in your chest.
”i wasn’t worthy, back then,” he hums, bringing your hand to his lips. ”but now…”
a kiss to your knuckle. featherlight. reverent. you try not to shiver, but when he says your name, dragging each syllable out, like they belong on his tongue —
a chill runs down your spine.
when he speaks, you feel his warm breath on your skin. it’s dizzying. ”i’m not the same suguru you once knew,” he admits, a forlorn look in his eyes. and devotion, frighteningly sincere. ”unlike him — i’ll never let you go.”
what a twisted desire. he wants to take you with him, drag you down to hell. the suguru you knew wouldn’t put you through that. but maybe you’re even more twisted, for wishing he had; for wishing he had taken you with him, ten years ago, instead of leaving without a single goodbye.
geto’s voice is soft. coaxing, like he's handling a frightened mouse. join me, he whispers, and you think of eve. when you look at his mouth you think you see serpents’ teeth behind his lips.
(you're almost sure he notices it. and you're almost sure his smile widens, lips curling up, as if preparing to open his maw and swallow you whole.)
a sickening sense of resignation roots itself somewhere in your gut.
you pull your hand away, and he lets you. the loss of warmth hits you like a freight train, but you aren’t sure you could think clearly with his skin on yours. when you part your lips to speak, only air comes out, just barely forming a sentence. like there are no more words to say. like the world stopped spinning around you both a lifetime ago.
”i don't love you.”
…
for just a second, his smile falters.
”no?” he hums, and you wish it didn’t hurt so bad to see him hurt. his eyes carry a kind of patience, something gentle. ”it’s fine… these things take time.”
a bitter chuckle. ”like you’d know anything about waiting,” you spit, and it comes out sounding venomous. a phantom ache sprouts in the spot where his lips touched your skin.
geto closes his eyes.
”you don't need to love me,” he says, finally. kind. you hate that he still sounds so kind. so understanding, like nothing you do could be wrong in his eyes. ”as long as you're beside me, that's enough.”
he turns to look at you, and his smile looks very real, for a moment. impossibly fond. ”i have two daughters. i’ve told them about you,” he smiles. ”my family… you’d like them. i know they’d like you.”
dark clouds cover the moon, suddenly, and a shadow falls across you both. illuminated only by the streetlight. in the distance, you hear a car whooshing by.
”don’t stay at the bottom,” he beckons, and your name slips from his lips again. soft, his tongue bending around the vowels. coaxing. stirring your heartstrings like a puppeteer.
then he’s standing up, dusting off his robes, large hands smoothing down the fabric. turning around, towering over you; obscuring everything else. all you see is him, under the glow of the lamp post. a halo of artificial light.
”come. let me show you the world we can create.”
he gives you a sweet smile, two abysses gazing into you. the promise of something twisted, new, forbidden. you think of red skin and yellow flesh; the bite of sin.
and for a second, you see it. the world. a world where laughter comes from the bottom of your gut, and the trees are always ripe for picking, red apples hanging from the branches like glowing rubies. a world where sweetened fruit never give way to rot.
paradise.
geto stretches a hand out towards you. fingers unfurling, one by one, like a blooming camellia. close, right there in front of you, so close that you’re tempted to take his hand in yours, let him carry you away. burn everything else to the ground.
(you think of the serpent. you think of god.
only one of them banished eve.)
”so,” he smiles. ”what do you say?”

The Faceless Girl in my Dream
Pairing: Obanai Iguro x reader
Warning: Angst, Soulmate, Death
A/n: If I can't move on, no one will! Another angst for my most favorite character in the series! Are you all tired that it's always Obanai? I'm sorry🥹. But I still hope you all enjoy it!!
_____________________________
Tales of soulmates continue to exist in the world I live in. Especially if that destined one is meant to complete the imperfect you.
But I thought that was impossible.
Born from a clan of sinners, my relatives didn't hesitate on killing their own partners in exchange for a life of luxury.
They said that the heartache you will feel is unbearable that will knock the air out of you if they ever leave.
But those people didn't portray that pain.
They still look happy even if they stab their lovers with their own bare hands.
That's why, meeting that fated person seems like a hindrance. It was something I don't ever want to happen in this life.
Because I knew for a fact that they can't brought their self to love me because of my tainted blood.
I also don't want to love someone because we are fated to be.
So I focused on protecting the life of the weak one. Leaving the life of seeking for that one woman.
Even if the world physically engrave her presence in my life, with the tattoo of thunder surrounding a lotus in my arm.
I can't bring myself to look for her.
Because I know I can't give her the happily ever after that everyone wanted.
Sooner or later, I will die as a member of the demon slayers.
Without seeking for her.
Until my world turn into chaos when with just one moment of her passing by.
A woman wearing a light color of yellow kimono as she strut with elegance.
It was the day I entered the life of a slayer.
Also the same day when I started to dream of a faceless woman. A person that made my dream like a paradise.
I was at loss of words with the things that started to happen in my life.
The thought of her being that faceless woman once passed by in my mind before I shrugged it off.
But I never pursue that curiosity. A gut I didn't follow. Because I might fall deeper than I intended.
Until I became the Serpent Hashira.
All those dreams started to make sense.
The dream where I live happily without the thought of seeing the next day.
"Obanai, would you allow me to take a look at your arm where your soulmate tattoo is placed?"
That question caught me off guard but I obliged on the Master's words.
"Amane, what does it look like?"
"It's a tattoo of lightning encircling around a lotus flower" I put my sleeves down once I heard him take a deep breath that made my heart restless.
"Hearing about your breathing, I already knew it would be you"
I kept my silence before one of his daughters approached me with an envelope in her hand.
"This is the will of the Lightning Hashira, Y/n"
I took the paper from the kid and I immediately felt an uncomfortable feeling in my chest.
What is happening?
"Y/n is a pure hearted kid. A kid that longed to meet someone that is meant for her"
Soulmates...
That's the first thing I thought and my hands trembled uncontrollably like a surge of emotions just escaped from the chains I surrounded my heart with.
"Yet when she reaches the age of six, her parents shed the skin where her soulmate tattoo lays" my thoughts froze from his words as I prevent myself from looking up to him.
"She didn't remember the tattoo well. Except for the image of a serpent" I heard myself taking a deep breath from his words.
We both know where this is going. And that conversation with the master is the heaviest burden that I will carry in my entire life.
Before, I don't want to meet my soulmate.
Because they are destined to be my weakness.
I can't fight against fate itself. Sooner or later, I can't deny the bond they build for me.
I just don't want to lose my happiness for the same reason of dying.
Leading me to question myself before. What's the use of soulmates when they will be the reason for your death?
Seeing the tomb in front of me, serves as proof to me that I just jinx myself.
"She is the sole reason why we are still hidden from Muzan's eyes. That lady who lured him away from this place by sacrificing herself"
"Without any hesitations in her veins" the master spoke out as his eyes clearly portrayed the eyes of a grieving man.
She is just two years older than me. That elegant woman I once met even by a second.
The same day she died on that guy's hand.
She was a strong woman who fought with him even without orders from the Master.
Protecting the Master's family was her only thought until her last breath.
I kneeled in front of her grave but my eyes seemed to finally run out of tears.
I can't bring myself to cry for her.
She protected the location of the Ubuyashiki Family with her own life.
Because its the family that is holding her last will. The family that became her reason to live again.
She abandoned the thought of soulmates and life just to protect that family.
"But, meeting you was a dream she has yet to abandon"
I felt a sudden tear on my left cheek when I recall the Master's last words before I left.
That showed me that having her as my other half is like a blessing.
She was too beautiful for me.
All this time, my deceased soulmate is the faceless girl in my dream.
Like she is sending me a message.
That she is not in this world anymore. Like the future that is meant for us can only be experienced in that dream of mine.
And it made my heart feel heavier.
Dear Soulmate,
I have probably taken my last breath when this reaches you. I know its not a good start for a letter but I can't help it.
Because I already dedicated my life as a Hashira.
But before everything, I want to apologize. Because the dream you wanted will just fall apart as you read this letter.
I don't want to reject you, whoever you are.
But I know for a fact, that I could have treated you better if we didn't live in this world where demons exist.
A life where you can find happiness with the destined soul meant for you.
I'm sorry if I failed that role.
I can't just bring myself to dedicate my life to loving you. Seeking for you.
But I hope you know how much I want to look for you. How many times I broke my family's rules just to find you.
I just want you to know how much I love you even before I met you.
Yet I'm also thankful that we didn't meet. Because it would be too painful if the other one leaves.
After all, we can die because of heartbreak.
If isn't too much...
If you can grant me just this one wish.
The dream that I broke in this life, I promise you, I will certainly make you happy in the next life.
Where you would allow me to make up everything to you. Where you can allow me to be your partner in the next life.
Maybe that way, it will make me breathe easier. That I will leave this world with good terms with you.
Where you won't hate me. Where you can appreciate even this slightest effort of writing my last will for you.
Soulmate that is destined to be mine, I love you even if the world breaks us apart. Even if our destiny didn't line up our future better.
I wish you a life that you can be proud of. A day where you can find the comrades that will make you keep moving forward.
A life full of blessings and happiness for you.
A Life where you can find your purpose like I did. I love you, don't forget that.
Sincerely, L/n Y/n
And like deprived prisoners, my eyes once again have been filled with tears that started to escape.
Even if she is gone. My heart started to get attached to her because of the memory she left behind.
That I started thinking of a life I can have if we ever met before she leaves this world behind.
Will my heartbeat quicken with just a glimpse of her like what they say? Will I soften my strong facade just for her? Will I do the most stupid things just to make her smile?
So many questions that lingered my mind but I knew only her presence could answer that.
And I would never find the answer until the next life.
Even with those thoughts, I know for sure that I won't regret having her as my partner.
Because her being mine is the biggest blessing I could have received if they didn't take her away from me so early.
We're destined together.
But not fated to meet each other
And that realization hurts

Notes: Hi! After I posted the third chapter I noticed I have more than 200 followers!!! I truly can't believe it, thank you so much!!! And I decided to write this chapter as fast as I could for a 100 followers celebration, which means the fifth chapter will be a 200 followers celebration along with a one shot from my masterlist. I'm so grateful for the people who keep reading this series and for the new ones who are giving me the opportunity to give them something to read. Likes, reblogs, comments are always appreciated. English is not my first language so pardon me if anything is misspelled or grammatically incorrect. Also the main idea came from a webtoon but I can’t remember it’s name. Enjoy!
Masterlist | Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Support me?
Closing the door behind him a very happy leopard stops in front of the elevator to call, once inside he marks the parking lot. Which car should I drive today? Well I'm already late, I should take the smaller one he walks and picks up one of the two pair of keys dangling from his parking space I can't wait to take Beautiful out, just the two of us a boxy smile breaks through with this thought and gets in the car After this shoot I'm gonna pretend to be sick and get back to her quickly.
Thanking to the people who picked up the place for the photoshoot, since it was near the building he lives in, he exists the car and jogs a little bit to meet with his manager, a dog hybrid, waiting for him at the entrance, "Tae, I know you're a really big name in this industry, and thanks to me may I add" Jaehyun says with a silly smile and walking where there was already a lot of people waiting for Taehyung "but you can't be this late to a shoot man" this time is a frown what accompanies his words. "I know hyung, I'm sorry, you know I don't like to waste people's time but something happened yesterday and my phone died so the alarm didn't ring and I had to make breakfast but didn't have groceries so everything was a bit chaotic".
Once they're in front of the crew, Taehyung says out loud "I'm sorry everybody, I didn't mean to be this late" "It's okay, I mean you're THE Kim Taehyung you can be as late as you want" says a young leopard hybrid coming way to closer for his liking, like she almost wanted to touch him, so he takes a step back "I'm sorry Director, it won't happen again" he says bowing at her, which makes the girl blush "Um, Tae, she's no…" Jaehyun stars but gets interrupted "She's not the director Taehyung, it's me, she works with the make-up department" a slighter older fox hybrid walks towards Jaehyun and him "Oh, I'm sorry for being late Sir" he bows again, but this time at the right person "I know you're a big name but it can't happen again while we do this campaign" "It won't I swear" Taehyung says with his anima ears twitching nervously and his human ears red from embarrassment, at this the Director chuckles "It's okay, go get changed and then go to make-up while we set up things to start the shoot" he points at a girl who raises her hand She must be from the costume's department thus Taehyung walks behind her until they get to the dressing room.
"Hi Mr. Kim, I'm Danny and I'll be helping you during this campaign with what you'll be wearing" "Thank you Danny, and you can call me Taehyung, Mr. Kim sounds way to formal for my liking" he smiles gently at her Wow he is even more handsome in person and the rumor of him being a sweetheart are true, thank you universe for already having a partner otherwise I would probably be acting like the girl from make-up "Sure thing Taehyung" she says with red cheeks "These are the clothes you're gonna be wearing for this particular shoot" Danny shows him the main show of the shoot, a pair of underwear, with a pair of jeans and a jacket, both in denim "Okay" the leopard goes behind a curtain to change himself "If you need anything, I'm here" Danny says in a more professional tone "I actually have a question" he says while taking off his shirt "Sure, is anything not your size?" "No, it's not about the clothes or the shoot" "Oh" she says more relaxed "Sure" You're human right? I mean I didn't smell anything particular from you, except a faint smell of giraffe" he rushes his explanation in fear of offending her while almost falling from taking off his pants, she chuckles at this "Yes, I'm human and the scent you're smelling is my partner, it's faint because he's away on business, may I ask why are you asking this?" "It's just that I found my partner and she's also human and I wanted to know how can I court without scaring her, both my parents are hybrids so I don't know if I should do something different" a fondly smile forms on his lips by the mere thought of you "Well" she laughs a little "Andy was very forward, we crossed paths at a coffee shop and as I was exiting he screamed Wait! I think you're my partner to the entire shop and I genuinely thought that wasn't directed to me so I just walked out but he followed me and tapped my shoulder and told me the thing he just screamed was aimed at me, so we sat and started talking. I think everyone in this world knows they're destined to someone therefore you shouldn't be afraid of scaring" she finishes at the same time he pushes the curtain already changed That's the thing, I don't think she knows about the Connection which is so weird but he doesn't let his thoughts reflect on his face, instead he smiles at Danny "Thank you, you were very helpful" "Okay, let me see you" she turns on her job face "Please turn around" she hums looking for something that may stand out in the wrong way "I think you look great, the jacket is not too big, the boxers are up enough to see the brand but your abs can also be seen, and the jeans make your thighs look great, and this denim makes you ears stand out in very nice way. You're ready to go to make-up Taehyung" she smiles at him "Thank you Danny" he waves at her, exiting the dressing room.
"Hi handsome" someone says as soon as he exits, scaring him a little. Turning to look at the person who startled him, he finds the same leopard girl he thought was the director "Hey Taehyung, I was just coming to get you to take you to make-up" Jaehyun approaches but stops when spotting the girl "What are you doing here?" he asks "I'm here to pick him up" "The director told you to wait by your room, thus I'm asking again, what are you doing here?" "I'm just trying to show initiative, that's all" she answers with a fake sweet smile "Let's just go, yeah? We're already behind schedule because of me I don't want to keep delaying everything" Taehyung intervenes. "Yeah, you're right Tae…Lady, please take us to the make-up room" Taehyung puts himself between the wall and Jaehyun, just to be safe from the girl, watching this the girl frowns because she wants to be next to him Especially if he's wearing something so tempting. The three get to the room full of make-up suitcases "Okay, we're already you can leave now" she smirks at Jaehyun "You know make-up artists have to be alone to do the job quickly and without errors" Jaehyun growls a little bit at her but knows he can't do anything because she's right "Tae, call me if you need anything" he looks at the male leopard like saying If this crazy girl throws herself at you call me at which Taehyung only nods, and Jaehyun takes his leave.
"Okay Tae, you can sit here" she purrs the words in an attempt to sound sexy "Please don't call me Tae, only people close to me can call me that" Taehyung says in a deeper and strained tone of voice, one he uses when he's not comfortable or mad, dreading being with her and sitting in front of her "Then we can get closer, don't you think?" she trails one of her fingers up his right arm, trying to reach his exposed chest, however a male hand stops her intention "Look I really don't want to say anything to the director about your inappropriate behavior but if you continue I'm not going to have another choice but to talk to him" at this point his chest was vibrating to let out a growl, but he contained himself. Watching his face she felt a little scared but that didn't deterred her purpose This man is going to be mine, he just doesn't know it yet. I mean, we're both leopards, we obviously belong to each other. I have to be more forward with that in mind she sits in his lap, wrap her arms around his neck and brings her face closer to his, watching how her prey open his eyes wide Oh he looks so cute, and he's gonna be mine "Come on Tae, I know you don't have a partner and look at me, we would be incredible together, you're hot I'm hot, we're both leopards, and I'm just feeling this electricity between us, it's incredible" with each word her voice goes lower and her face closer I can't just toss her, it could hurt her and it would make a mess.
"Lia, what are you doing on top of Taehyung?!" A woman's voice wakes up Taehyung from his shock and stands up, trying not to toss the girl with too much force, and turns to find a familiar face "Mrs. Choi?" "Mom! What are you doing here?!" the girl screams at the woman Is she the daughter of one of the best make-up artists? Taehyung thinks "No, the one who asks questions is me. Now, what were you doing on top of him?" "Mom, we're part-" "She sat on top of me! Started touching me and saying crazy things! And we're definitely not partners, I already have one and she's at home!" it's not his intention to almost scream but that's how it comes out, he wants to be clear with anyone who's listening that he already has a partner, a very beautiful partner What? He has a partner? Well, it doesn't matter he's not marked yet which means anything can happen the other leopard in the room thinks "Oh my God Lia, I told you that if you wanted to come with me you had to behave and why was the door closed, you know that until the senior enters the apprentice can't close the door" Mrs. Choi says "Are you the one who's going to do my make-up?" Taehyung says with a hopeful tone, and he's so relieved even his ears stand up in relaxation "Yes, darling. And I'm so sorry for my daughter" hearing her mother say that Lia crosses her arms in frustration If you hadn't enter mom I could've kissed him "Now let's do your make-up quickly Taehyung, after all this isn't the first time we work together" and it's true for most of his shoots Mrs. Choi has been the one does his make-up so, by now, the know what works the best. After 15 minutes Mrs. Choi is finishing his make-up, she really wanted to finish fast after all her daughter couldn't stop looking at Taehyung and trying to touch at very chance she could get, and the boy's obviously very uncomfortable; "There, all done" she says applying a thin layer of gloss to make his lips stand a little bit, Taehyung looks at himself in the mirror in front of him "Thanks Mrs. Choi, as always your work is impeccable" the woman smiles at him "My pleasure Taehyung, will be seeing each other because of this campaign so we'll see each other soon" Taehyung stands up and exits the room listening to something along the lines of "Let's go home young lady, we need to talk about boundaries at a work place" "But m-".
"Tae, you're finally out" Jaehyun starts asking as soon as he sees Taehyung "What happened? Did that girl do something? You know what? Where's the director, he needs to know this" "Hyung, hyung!" Taehyung almost screams but at least gest Jaehyun's attention "She's Mrs. Choi's daughter, apparently wanted to learn about this world" "Mrs. Choi's daughter? But she's so ahhh" Jaehyun makes angelic noise "and that girl was so oohhh" Jaehyun makes scary noises now, which makes Taehyung laugh out loud. Hearing a deep laugh the director approaches the two young men "Taehyung, did you finish? Are you ready?" "Yes Sir" Taehyung immediately stops laughing and transforms it into a serious face "Okay, please put yourself in front of the camera" the older male chuckles softly at the nervousness of the young leopard.
Modeling comes easy for Taehyung since he was recruited at 16 years old people has praised his good looks and how natural he's in front of a camera, however he started his official career at 20 years old and he's been doing it for 5 years now. It pays the bills and lets him have a certain commodity, and now that he found you he knows he can also provide for you as well. Being in front of the camera makes Taehyung sometimes feel weird or even shy depending on the type of shoot he's doing but once he switches on his modeling talent he can only focus on what pose to next so it can come as natural as possible, something many directors like when working with him is that the leopard almost never need directions he knows which are his best poses, his best faces and most importantly knows how to use his body, which angles show, in this case, the clothes better and how can his animal features add to the mix, play with his tail or hide his ears to show something.
Because of how good he is at his job the shoots ends on time, despite Taehyung being late, and now was time to go home There's no way I'm gonna keep working when it's almost noon and Beautiful doesn't have anything to eat "Hey hyung, I'm not feeling well, I think being with that girl really disturbed me, besides I think I ate something that's bloating me. I think I should go home, tell the other shoots we can double the time when we reschedule or the can pay me less" Jaehyun couldn't say anything because Taehyung starts running to the dressing room "Hi Danny" and changes his clothes in a flash "Bye Danny", the leopard runs again and encounter the Director "Great job Director, thank you for everything, have a nice day, I look forward to the next shoot I swear I'll be on time" he bows and runs again towards his car not even paying attention to the "Taehyung's" Jaehyun is screaming.
Once inside his car he makes a plan First I need to buy her a phone, hers is obviously so old it doesn't work anymore, I have to buy one for Jiwoo too because I know how important she's to Beautiful. Second, the both need clothes just a few and the we can go together to buy more. Finally, groceries for the three of us. Parking at the mall, Taehyung goes straight to a store where he can buy the phones, for his Beautiful he buys the same one he has but pink because he saw that many of her things had that color It suits her that color he smiles at the thought, and for Jiwoo he buys same model but white. Outside of the store he looks at the watch on his wrist Damn it, there's not a lot of time adding something more to the list he goes to the food court and approaches to a Italian restaurant and orders 3 lasagnas to take, and while they're making them Taehyung goes to a store for clothes as soon as he sees a clerk similar to your body type he asks her to pick six shirts, two pair of jeans, and 4 pair of shorts It's getting hotter these days with summer approaching, he pays and goes to another store for the underwear where he basically does the same but this time with a very red face and animal ears glued to his head from embarrassment, in this store he pays even faster. He has to accept he must look like a mad man running from one place to another with a lot of bags; he gets to the restaurant and picks up what is gonna be lunch. Running again he sees his car closer and closer, he puts the lasagnas in the front seat and the rest of the bags on the back seat, once inside he takes route to the nearest supermarket around his building.
Getting off the car after parking, he takes a supermarket cart an starts going through the aisles to pick up and put inside the cart the food of his choice I just hope they like what I'm choosing, but I can always bring them with me if she wishes something else. With the supermarket already seen he approaches the cashier and pays and pack everything as fast as he can, looking at his watch once more he notices it's noon Okay I'm close just have to hurry up a little bit he tries to run with difficulty from the heavy grocery bags. This time he puts the bags on the trunk and gets up inside to start driving to the destination he wants to arrive the most Home.
Finally seeing his building he presses the gas a little bit more, once inside the parking lot, he parks next to his other car and takes out all of the boxes that despite being heavy he can carry all of them thanks to the gym and his leopard genes. He walks towards the elevator and calls it, it doesn't take long and it opens its door and he walks inside. Marking the 10th floor, he's almost buzzing with excitement, his tail is wiggling behind him in a happy manner. The elevator chimes and announces it arrived at its destination opening its doors. The leopard exists and runs for his apartment, in front of the door he opens it Finally. "I'm home"

Sweet Pea x Fem OC
Pt. 2
archie andrews twin sister, delilah, is fed up with him being overprotective. so when a cute serpent offers her an opportunity, she can't turn it down
Delilah hung onto him for dear life, terrified as they raced through the streets of riverdale. when they finally arrived at pops, delilah didn't think she had it in her to step off the bike. he pried her hands off him and helped her off. with her whole body trembling in fear she couldn't get the helmet strap undone. he once again helped her and took it off her head.
"i'm never doing that again," she said, flattening out her hair. he fixed a piece of her hair and gestured for her to follow him.
they walked through the doors and delilah surveyed the room for archie. he wasn't there.
"i'm gonna go wash my hands," she said excused herself. when she came back out, she came face to face with archie, veronica, jughead, and betty.
"hey girl," veronica said. "we were just about to sit down, do you wanna join us?"
"oh, no thanks V. i'm here with someone," delilah explained. "thank you for the offer though."
"o la la, does delilah andrews finally have a boy?" veronica asked.
"no," archie shot in. "no she does not."
"just between us girls," she whispered to veronica and betty. "kinda."
the girls all squealed at her admission.
"i don't wanna move to fast, and put labels on it, but i really like him," she lied through her teeth.
"well we won't keep you any longer," betty winked at her and started walking toward a booth.
"who?" archie demanded.
"none of your business," she walked away from him and towards sweet pea who was seated at the counter. when she took the seat next to him, archie sprinted across the room to them.
he ripped sweet pea out of his seat and they started yelling.
"what the fuck are you doing?" archie said.
"i'm here on a date," sweet pea responded.
"get away from my sister," archie shoved him and sweet pea shoved him back.
"you're being ridiculous," delilah said, stepping in front of sweet pea right as archie tried to push him again. she lost her balance and fell back into sweet pea hard. he caught her and rested his hand on her hip.
"don't touch her," archie said.
"i think i'll do what i want."
archie lunged at sweet pea but jughead held him back.
"sit down," veronica demanded. "leave her alone, archie."
"this isn't over," archie threatened before walking back to a booth.
sweet pea turned her around and leaned her back against the counter.
"not so bad, right?" he whispered. she shrugged lightly and he pulled her in for a hug. "is he watching?"
"mhm," delilah hummed into his chest. after a few seconds he pulled away slightly, their hips still pressed together. he looked at her carefully before raising his hand to her chin and gently kissing her.
"why him?" archie sat at his booth, fuming as he watched his sister.
"he's not without charm, archiekins," veronica said. "why are you so opposed to her dating anyway?"
"every boy in this town is an asshole," archie said.
"you live in this town," betty pointed out.
"i know."
"you're mainly upset because he's a serpent," jughead scoffed.
"yeah, jug. and he tried to hurt me. he showed up at my house and tried to fight me," archie complained. "why does he like her anyway? he hates northsiders."
"well, for starters, delilah is drop dead gorgeous. like even i've had thoughts about her," veronica admitted, resulting in a disgusted look from archie. "but, also, she's kind. she doesn't judge the southsiders, at least not outwardly."
"i think it's sweet," betty said.
"how? how is that sweet?" archie asked, slamming his fork down.
"he's willing to fight for her. he must know she doesn't date because you don't let her. just be happy for her, arch," betty explained.
"it just doesn't feel right," archie shook his head. "i can't shake the feeling he's using her to get back at me."
"not all serpents are the horrible people you make them out to be," jughead chimed in.
"can you blame me for thinking that?" archie practically yelled.
"i guess not. i'll talk to him," jughead told him.
"thanks jug."
archie watched as they left the diner and the only thing stopping him from following them was veronica sitting on the outside. but when he saw sweet pea hand the helmet to her he practically shoved her out and raced outside, his friends not far behind.
"absolutely not," he yelled. "she is not getting on that."
"calm down," veronica said.
"no, ronnie. a date is one thing but she can't get on that. she'll get hurt," he said. "i bet that's what you want though."
"excuse me," sweet pea stepped close to him.
"you heard me. i bet you're just itching to hurt her to get back at me."
"there's something wrong with you," sweet pea bit back.
"come on," she pulled sweet pea back. "he's not worth it."
"let's go," he mounted his bike and delilah followed him.
archie watched in anger as they rode away. he stormed back into pops, slammed money down on the table, and started running back home. when he got home, he went straight to delilah's room, but she wasn't there. he ran back down the stairs and found his dad in the kitchen.
"has 'lilah come back home?"
"no, i don't remember seeing her come in," fred responded. archie went back upstairs and called delilah. she didn't respond.
"god, he's annoying," delilah whined, putting her phone back in her pocket.
"i know," sweet pea said. they were sat on the edge of sweet water river, completely alone. "why doesn't he let you date?"
"i'm not really sure," delilah admitted. "something about all the boys being awful, i think. but i don't believe that."
"that's weird."
"i think he's trying to protect me, i mean he wouldn't ever leave my side growing up. but ever since he started dating veronica, he's been leaving me alone more, thank god."
"it still doesn't make sense though. you'd think he'd want you to have a boyfriend so he could protect you," sweet pea pointed out.
"i gave up on trying to understand my brothers mind a long time ago," she put a hand on his shoulder and sighed.
they sat there in silence, watching the river flow, for what felt like eternity before delilah spoke.
"it's getting late," she whispered. "it's dark and i'm cold."
"take my jacket," he took off his serpent jacket and handed it to her. "i'm sure your brother would love that."
"take me home," she said, snatching the jacket from him and pulling it over herself. she was practically drowning in it.
hé drove her back home and walked her up to her door. it wasn't that late but delilah didn't want to risk waking anyone up. she slowly crept up the stairs and entered her room. she found archie sitting on her bed.
"why him?"
"he asked me out," delilah said, crossing her arms.
"and you thought i would be okay with this?"
"archie, i have had enough with you thinking you can control my life. he likes me, and i like him. i'm not gonna let you ruin yet another relationship for me, i just won't," she was trying to be stern with him, but not be too loud. "now get out of my room," she pointed to the door.
"im not done with this," he said, heading for the door.
"yes, you are, archie. seriously leave me alone, you've done enough to hurt this family, dont add this to the list of things you'll be apologizing for for the rest of your life."

Hello! It's my first time sending an ask because I found your account about two days ago and I'm simply addicted to your writing! You are definitely in my top 3 favorite dark content writers✨ And I have so many questions and compliments for all your fics, but I also don't want to spam you jfkfdh But one of the doubts I have is about Naga!SatoSugu:
— Ok so, do they shed their skin too? Why yes, miss.Chewy will have to see this event four (or more) times a year. But would they do that with her around? Would she have to clean it or do they do it? It must be very unpleasant to live in their nest and see this everywhere. (Oh, I also know that when snakes are shedding their skin, they are very sensitive and can get irritated easily because of it)
— And I also have a question about the way they feed themselves. Do their jaws open like snakes or do they just bite and chew their food? OH, do they also regurgitate the digested food? Sorry if I'm going into too many details jsjdkd it's fun to think about these possibilities in this story.
Anyway, I'm very happy to have found your account. I love rereading your stories and I love your beautiful brain.
— 🐦⬛
awwww thank you!!!! youre so nice!!!! ontto your questions
again idk anything about snakes....i just thought serpent men are hot sooo regarding shedding their skin...only their snake part would shed right? so their human part will be fine. I dont think stsg would shed their skin together. itd be more like one sheds their skin, while the other hunts. when Chewy comes into the picture, the naga shedding his skin would probably retreat further into the caves system you three live in, so you wont see him for a while.
unhinging their jaws sounds so terrifying but so funny so yes they do. The first time they did it, it definitely freaked Chewy out and at that same time, stsg realized that they have to cut up your food so it was definitely a culture shock on both sides. For the record, both satoru and suguru have tried to feed you a whole carcass cuz they're snake men who live in the woods what do you expect???
see this is why yakuza! stsg is sexier than naga!stsg. why would you want weird snake men trying to force feed you a dead rat when you could have murder husbands who carry guns???

bts fanfics i think shakespeare and queen elizabeth i would’ve gossiped about.
chapter ii. ✷ chapter iv.
KEYS ON SEVERITY OF SHAKESPEARE’S STATE:
( ✮ ) — you can’t lie, shakespeare’s got a mouth on him.
( ♬ ) — they’ve ordered everyone out the room. peering through the window as we speak.
( ✎ ) — someone tell him to put that poor teacup down.
( ♛ ) — her majesty royally gasped. she’s clutching her pearls, bless her.
THE SHAKESPEARE SERIES.
WARNING: keep in mind, some of these authors are very strict on the rule that no minors should read their work if they’re underage, and i will honour that. but, at the end of the day, i am not your parent. so, there’s that. but heed my warning wisely. any smut or 18+ content is highlighted in bold.
NOTE: we’re on part three already? damn, times flies. if you’re new here, welcome to the shakespeare series where i write essays about fics that would absolutely annihilate shakespeare — hence the name. if you haven’t read the past two chapters, you can access them in the masterlist above! let’s get into it.
⠀
⠀
( ♛ ) MATILDA — by @babystrcandy
!! yoongi x reader | 141.8k !!
brothers best friend au, angst, fluff, eventual smut.
my therapist would absolutely adore this fanfic. maybe i should recommend it to her. or just send her the link. she’d be thrilled.
this series is dedicated to anyone who felt like the second choice, the one always forgotten about, the so-called disappointment, the people pleaser, the perfectionist, the one whose family has let them down over and over again.
reading this, alike reading anything else, transports you to another world. however, the difference between this one and all others, is this makes you feel safe. secure. a safe place. a sanctuary you never realised even existed, where you feel accepted and loved. it takes the idea of home and really drills it in.
if you find yourself relating to this story, like i did, i want to you to know i see you and i truly hope one day you find everything you were deprived of growing up. you deserve peace. you deserve love.
while you’re at it, go give this author some love for seeing us, listening to us, and validating our experiences. and for writing such a beautiful story.
⠀
( ♬ ) DILF JK — by @venusiangguk
!! jungkook x reader | 85.5k !!
strangers to lovers, dad!jk, friends with benefits, smut (18+), fluff.
if some army’s weren’t such delulu’s and so consumed by the imaginary idea that they’ll one day marry a bts member and live happily ever after, this is the type of shit we’d actually get. but no, we’re forever plagued by fiction because of a few overly obsessed wankers.
rant aside, dilf!jk is a concept. one that needs to be studied and researched for my own personal needs. because i thought dilf!namjoon was dangerous (and he most certainly is), but dilf!jk is a whole other… thing? being? story? i’ll leave that to the researchers.
personally, i love when authors mould fiction and reality into one body. they blend the two concepts together to create something beautiful, and this was duly noted within the topic of the age gap. deciding on something real for the benefit of both parties in a fictional story is so fucking applaudable. or perhaps i’m just an angsty fucker, sorry.
most definitely worth all the tissues and all the cheek aching. talking from experience.
i mean, it’s got ‘dilf’ in the title, is that not enough? it’s what made me click, anyways. i’m a dilf lover through and through.
⠀
( ♬ ) A SERPENT’S FLOWER — by @jimlingss & @dovechim
!! jimin x reader | 34.2k !!
fluff, smut (18+), lil angst, hogwarts!au.
realistically, you knew at some point in this series there would be a harry potter!au thrown in somewhere, didn’t you? i mean, come on now. and i’m so happy this is the first one.
this two-parter and it’s sequel both are both due the respect they deserve. the perfect opposites attract trope? enemies to lovers? with a quick-witted slytherin reader and an even wittier hufflepuff park jimin? fuck me, don’t mind if i do.
i never say a fanfic has everything. but this fanfic has everything. character, romance, humour, angst, wit, the list goes on. it’s a fanfic buffet: it’s got it all, and you just help yourself.
and i realise some people don’t read the sequels to fanfics (i know), but i beg of you. read the sequel too. if anything, i think the sequel was my favourite bit. and i know some people don’t like the pregnancy trope, but i’m telling you there definitely is a time and place for it. and this is the time! and the place! trust me.
did i cry at the end of this fic? i can’t remember. but the probability is higher than i’d like it to be.
⠀
( ✮ ) ZERO GRAVITY — by @luxekook
!! namjoon x hoseok x reader | 11k !!
space!au, poly!au, angst, smut (18+), crack, fluff.
if someone doesn’t drop me on a spaceship with two of the hottest men on the planet in the next fortnight, i’m suing. don’t know who that’ll be yet, but some poor sod will have his hands full, that’s for certain.
i love space!au fics with my whole heart and ass. honestly, every time one comes up on my page, i have to save it. it’s a reflex at this point, they’re just too good. you know what is also too good? the built up tension within this fic. jaw-dropping.
i’m not giving out any spoilers, but the author really said, bonk— here is the nastiest smut you’ve ever read in your life. take it, or get fucked. and of course, i took it. but nothing really prepares you for that atmosphere change. not even the sex club was remotely ready. and it’s a sex club.
not going to lie, before writing this essay, i actually went back and read it again, just to make sure i was in the right mind the first time i read it. and yep, sure was. it’s just shocking how insane this fic is.
btw, anyone fancy a visit to throbbing disco sticks? i need a word with the person who came up with the name. and perhaps a kiss too.
⠀
( ✎ ) NO CHOICE (NEXT TO YOU) — by @gukyi
!! yoongi x reader | 13k !!
college!au, frat boy!au, neighbour!au, enemies to lovers.
miscommunication. my lover in fanfics, my worst enemy in real life. hence why i love this fic so much. because it’s not real life. (unfortunately).
we’ve all done that thing where we’ve accidentally eavesdropped onto something we shouldn’t of and one thing leads to another and boom, you find yourself misreading the whole situation. and you’re lying if you say you haven’t.
well, that’s this fic for you. times a thousand. honestly, enemies to lovers fics never do me wrong. they’re always a joy to read — the thrill and the very, very prominent sexual tension keeps you excited, waiting on the edge of your seat to see how everything plans out.
my point? this fic never bores you out. read it a thousand times and it still feels like the first. and not a lot of fanfics have that power, i’ll tell you that. a few, yes. but not a lot.
don’t take reading this for the first time for granted. wish i had that privilege. jealous.
⠀
( ✎ ) THE PRINCE’S CINDERELLA SYNDROME — by @jimilter
!! jimin x reader | 39.4k !!
cursed!jimin, supernatural!au, strangers to lovers!au angst, smut, fluff.
this fic altered my brain chemistry permanently. there’s no going back. i’m officially ruined, you guys. i don’t even know who i was before i read this. it was just- bang, clean slate.
to begin with, i thought ‘this bitch saw him twice and her knees buckled. what the fuck.’ but then i realised that bitch is me, and the so-called him is referring to thee park jimin, so really. i got it. who wouldn’t absolutely power move it after seeing such a sight? i might just jog a little. sprint on a good day.
i would happily write a five thousand word essay for you on how fucking good this plot slash idea was, and an additional ten thousand on how sad, but i don’t think my fingers— nor my mental state would be able to go through that. not again. please.
but as i mentioned in the last fic above, do not take reading this for the first time for granted. however, only because you will lose all rationality.
shakespeare most definitely plagiarised this fic. he wrote it down and her majesty knows. that’s why he looked so proud of himself at tea. the sneaky fucker. just he wait until i tell @jimilter.
sobbing. again. or is this the fourth time?
⠀
( ✎ ) ALWAYS IN MY DREAMS — by @kookskingdom
!! namjoon x reader | 15.4k !!
soulmates!au, fluff, angst, minor character death.
i mean, i already sleep too fucking much. only being able to meet my soulmate through my dreams would just make me comatose. you’d never hear from me. ever.
and yes, you saw the tag. it’s another soulmate!au because everyone knows how much nini loves her hopeless romance. but! who doesn’t. they’re too good to scroll past. so when i finally read this, i knew it was going in the series.
the unknown certainty between the pair of when their next encounter would be with each other, causing them to cherish every single second, that. that’s what i want please. someone who drinks up my existence knowing we will soon part from each other. i cannot.
i love, love, love the concept of soulmates, fate, destiny, whatever. the whole shabang. i bathe in it. so, of course, this fic was a big hit with me. and if that too is your thing, and you love the idea of two souls being intwined inside and out, this is your golden ticket.
@kookskingdom is mentioned in this chapter twice. but can you blame me? you find a ticket to the chocolate factory, of course you’re going to hold onto it as tightly as possible.
⠀
( ✮ ) VOICEMAIL — by @joonary
!! seokjin x reader | 7k !!
fluff, humour, friends to lovers, college podcast!au.
you know those dramas where both the two main characters are so completely smitten with each other to the point you’re practically screaming at your screen for them to “just kiss already!” but won’t because they’re hopelessly oblivious, even though everyone is telling them how in love they both are? yeah, that’s this fic. in a nutshell.
though in their defence, i feel i would definitely do the same. but still, does it stop me from getting frustrated with them? no. i was absolutely raging.
this cute story was so, so sweet i was practically clutching the phone for an emergency appointment to the dentist. my teeth were rotting with all the added sugar, like hello? my teeth? but just like chocolate is, it’s addicting. and you can’t stop yourself.
perhaps i’m just a sucker for friends to lovers fics, but this one particularly caught my attention. it’s 5k of pure infuriation, and 2k of fluff.
but so worth the impatience.
⠀
( ♬ ) FALL IN HATRED — by @jimlingss
!! seokjin x reader | 20k !!
divorce!au, angst, fluff, smut (18+), marriage!au.
first bullet point is just the thought of fuck me, ‘cause where do i start with this?
separation — in some ways — is the easy way out. you just get up and leave. walk out, whatever. boom, just like that. but the emotional repercussions are what make it so distressing. making that daunting decision to leave something— someone in our past, may be one of the hardest things we humans ever have to do.
this fic goes through the rough battle of what it means to be committed to a person. the battles of finally giving up on someone you once thought the world of. and honestly? that may be my worst fear. for someone to love me so deeply, and then lose that over time to see me as nothing more than an inconvenience of their past.
never been through divorce. hopefully you, nor i, will ever have to. but after reading this, i don’t think we have to experience it.
this amazing, yet painfully angsty fic does it for us. and a fucking incredible ending.
⠀
( ♛ ) THE ROAD TO RADIANT — by @kookskingdom
!! jungkook x reader | 25.9k !!
gamer!au, streamer!au, fluff, angst, smut, rivals to friends to lovers!au.
this got a crown on the shakespeare state chart purely for the fact i have never played valorant in my life, and single-handedly managed to impress my friends — who are obsessed with said game — about my newfound knowledge of gaming, purely from this fic alone. felt like a fucking genius.
i was going to add this to part four, but i genuinely had to swap some fics around to put this baby in. i found space for her, so she’s here. and deservedly so. why wait?
this fic does a very good job of highlighting the deep misogyny and sexism that runs within the gaming community towards women. like, can women not be good at gaming too? do people really believe gaming is purely a man thing? is this really the society we live in? yikes.
and if you do happen to read this fic and reach that argument scene with jungkook, please let me know. i want you to know i, too, was absolutely fuming. phones were thrown. naughty words were said. angry voice messages to said best friend were recorded.
final special mention for the smut scene. had me sweating like a sinner in church. lord have mercy.
⠀
( ♬ ) BRASS AND STRINGS — by @jimlingss

slice of life!au, fluff, slow burn, college!au, music!au.
take a shot every time this author is mentioned within this series. you’ll end up blackout pissed. it’s a shame they left this platform, but i hope they’re doing well. their fics have really left an impact on me. and i’ll forever be grateful.
ah, yes. the cheesy clichéd trope of the mean girl and the nerd. a mix of two completely different personalities and flavours that supposedly fit together like two broken pieces of a puzzle. the very foundation of a 2000’s romcom. an iconic pairing that has been hammered into us by the media since day one.
it’s the opposites attract that lured me in initially, but it’s the character development throughout the story that nestled itself into my heart, and got me to stay. this fic holds dear to me still.
i have gatekept this fic long enough, and i am trusting you to bear it with love and extreme care. like you’re holding a small, fragile baby in your arms. do not let me down. please.
one more thing, don’t share this with shakespeare. every time he’s brought it up, i’ve told him it was a really weird dream and he’s only just started to believe me. yes, i feel shit about it, but it has to be done. the man’s a menace.

spiderman!au, soulmate!au (yup), angst, fluff.
if any of you say a word about the second tag, i will fight. i will never stop recommending them. me and the soulmates!au are soulmates. irony at its finest.
i genuinely wish spidey!jk was a real adaptation. because even though andrew is my favourite spiderman, i fear there is a large difference between the pair that separates them. andrew can play peter parker. jungkook can (re: could) play peter parker. but could andrew play jungkook? no.
in this fic, the whole characterisation of both jungkook as spiderman and the soulmate!reader is so well written. you can perfectly picture jungkook being that awkward high school boy by day, and secret superhero vigilante by night. i mean, fuck me. how is he not knackered all the time?
mixing in that final zest of soulmates!au everyone (re: me) loves, you’ve got yourself a hell of a plot line.
romeo and juliet were not soulmates, shakespeare. they were children. why aren’t you taking notes? stop talking to the queen. she’s tired of all your bullshit. and so are we.

⚓️ Series Masterlist ⚓️
Genre: Pirate SKZ
Pairing: PirateThief!Jisung x Female Captain Reader x Ex-Bandit Lino
Summary: When Y/N, Captain of the Blackened Heart, gets offered a large sum of money to deliver a thief to the Jarl of Serpent Point, she and her crew greedily accept. But while spending time with the familiar thief during their long journey back home, she realizes just how important human connection can be, even for a pirate.
Warnings: Pirate SKZ. Swearing. Mentions of weapons. Violence. Mentions of brothels. Small mention of death.
** The author has left out some warnings to create an element of surprise with certain topics in/throughout this chapter. Reader discretion is advised. **
Word Count: 8.5k
A/N: I am aware that a lot of concepts and ideas throughout this fic will not be historically and biblically accurate. I've done my fair share of research about pirates of all kinds, from all different eras and countries, and I know pirates never lived lavishly; they didn't have proper tools for healthy hygiene, they never had 'fancy' meals, they never had access to first aid/doctors to help tend to their wounds after battle or when illness struck, their beds were often nothing but a wooden board and some thin cloth. I know not all dubloons rounded off to $16, and gems were rare to find. I know that in some eras, guns and bows didn't even exist, making combat difficult and more intense with only swords and daggers alike. I know chewing tobacco and pipes were commonly used, and STDs were common amongst the members of the crews.
Let me reinstate that.. **I AM AWARE OF ALL OF THIS AND SO MUCH MORE**
However, for the sake of this fic and where I wanted it to go, I changed a lot of those things. I pulled a lot of inspiration for this fic not only from Lalalala MV and the Rockstar comeback, but from video games that I’ve played that had pirates and jarls and thieves alike in them as well (mostly ESO, Skyrim, Assassins Creed, ect.).
So, as I've said, I am aware not everything in this is accurate, a lot of the lore and concepts are farfetched and not entirely realistic, but at the end of the day, there is NOTHING realistic about Pirate SKZ 😋
Happy Reading Everyone! Your thoughts and feedback is always appreciated. Enjoy! ♡
Serpent Point was, by far, the most repulsive city you've ever set foot in, and you were ashamed that you had once called the place home.
The small city sprawled out like an ugly scar across the dirty coastline, barely protected by the dead and decaying trees of the forest surrounding it. With rusted hulls, scavenged scraps, and towering heaps of trash, it felt as though it was built by the vermin that scurried across the streets and flooded the docks. Salt and sweat hung heavy in the air, mixed with the sharp sting of tobacco smoke and the lingering fumes of the nearby fish-processing plant, making anybody who stepped foot on Serpent Point soil gag from its intensity.
As you walked towards the shore, your old, muddy boots click-clacked against the broken wooden dock, your quartermaster and personal guard flanking your sides.
"I'll never understand how we always end up back here," Chan spoke with venom in his tone as he eyed the rickety old fort in the distance that was once his childhood home. Even from the shoreline, you could make out the large cracks stretching out across the stone structure, moss and mildew creeping from every fissure like an untreatable disease.
"I don't understand how the two of you even survived here," Lino commented shortly after, a shake of his head causing his chocolate-brown hair to sway back and forth. With a look of utter disgust, he side-stepped an old man who was sprawled on the dirt, hands reaching for Lino’s trousers with desperate, drunken eyes. It wasn't until the old man began shouting incessantly that the smell of alcohol wafted from his mouth straight to your nostrils, and you pinched your nose closed in revolt.
"Believe me, it wasn't by choice," you murmured, pushing forward and ignoring the babbling drunk. "If it had been, I'd be born anywhere but here."
"Amen," Chan agreed under his breath.
The walk to Fort Foucher, the Jarl's residence, was quick—partially because the city was small, but mostly because the three of you had little patience for the staggering drunks and pitiful beggars who clogged the streets.
Once you reached the entrance to the Fort, the Jarl's guards welcomed you in with disgruntled noises and curses beneath their breaths. The Jarl may have been expecting you, requesting you specifically by name, but that didn't mean his men held any sort of respect towards females in power. They spat nasty remarks and looks of disapproval your way despite the two menacing men at your side, and their frowns deepened impossibly more when you walked past the group of them with a certain confidence in your stride. It took everything in you not to release your dagger from its scabbard and huck it their way.
You were here on special request from the Jarl himself, and if you didn't need the coin he hinted at in his letter, you would have yet to show up to this low-class city to begin with. Killing his men before meeting with the man himself was not the brightest idea, no matter how tempting it may be.
Thankfully, a short, stubby man in a dirty blue coat and off-white stockings signaled from the back of the main foyer, pulling you from your murderous thoughts. He was waiting patiently to guide you to the throne room himself as if you hadn't been inside the Fort countless times before.
After catching your attention, the pudgy male turned and began walking away. He didn't even bother to make sure you were following as he led you down the old, dilapidated hallway to the set of double wooden doors at the end, where the Jarl would be waiting for your arrival just beyond.
The man stopped short just before the entrance to the room, bowed lazily to you and your men, and then opened the doors, granting you access inside. You took a deep breath as the golden light spilt from the room, making the hallway's darkness seem all the more oppressive behind you.
"After you, Cap," Lino spoke in a hushed tone, one hand waving you into the room while the other sat dangerously on the sharp dagger at his hip. His brown eyes flickered around the room, silently scouting for danger before you took another deep, calming puff of air and stepped inwards.
You bowed formally to the man in blue before entering the throne room, nerves bubbling in the pit of your stomach.
The first thing you noticed when you entered was the stench of old tobacco, worse than outside. That, mixed with the scent of wilting flowers and old wax, had you resisting the urge to scrunch your face up in disgust at the odor. It was an odd, unsettling combination, causing bile to rise up your throat that you had to push back down forcefully.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't my favorite buccaneer," Jarl Foucher’s voice scraped against your ears in the most unpleasant way. He struggled off of his raggedy old chair and opened his arms wide in welcome with a toothy grin on his face. His long, dirty grey hair was pulled back from his temples, allowing you a full view of his gross, scraggly beard. His teeth were yellow and chipped, his breath reeking of smoke and moonshine even from across the room, and his eyes were wrinkled and faded from their natural green into something almost stale and completely lifeless.
He looked exactly how you remembered him to be.
"Jarl Foucher," you smiled back, the action forced and not at all reaching your eyes. You lowered yourself respectfully to the floor before him, Chan following suit. Meanwhile, Lino remained still at your side, his eyes flittering over the guards cautiously. The raised pink scar that slashed over his left eye and down his cheekbone twitched in anticipation as his body tensed, his face hard as stone.
"Greetings Cristoff," Foucher barely spared his estranged son a glance before his attention was on Lino, his eyes narrowing in suspicion. You turned slightly to glare up at Lino, silently yelling at him to get on the ground and bow to the Jarl, but instead, Lino just stood unwavering, looking calm, cool and completely collected.
“And who may this gentleman be?” Foucher asked, his eyes lingering on the man, sharp and calculating. “I haven’t seen him amongst your crew before.”
“This is my guard, Lino Lee.” You spoke carefully, hoping to break some of the tension that was rolling off of Lino’s shoulders in waves as Foucher analyzed him. He seemed unbothered, but you know it was only an act he performed in the presence of authority figures. He hated Royals with a burning passion.
“The boys and I pulled him from the sea a while back after his boat up and sank, and he’s been indebted to us ever since. Rest assured, he poses you no harm.”
Foucher scrutinized Lino with curiosity, but his gaze eventually returned to you.
“A rogue bandit put in charge of keeping you safe? Surely you’re not that foolish, Captain.” The Jarl’s eyes gleamed with amusement as if he could tell what dirty things were going on between you and Lino behind closed doors. It was hard to resist Lino’s rogue image and impeccable charm, you had to admit that, and you hoped to god it wasn’t as obvious to the Jarl as it was to the rest of your crew.
Yes, you and Lino indulged in each other regularly while out at sea, you were only human after all, but everything that happened between the two of you was purely physical. There were no lingering feelings, second guesses or confusion as to what you two were to each other. You two had been clear and concise from the moment you first took that step only a few months prior, and you were determined to keep it that way for as long as possible.
Not that the Jarl needed to know any of that, but based on the look he was giving the two of you now, you knew he suspected romance was in play. You felt a sudden urge of determination to shut his suspicions down, but you didn’t want to draw any more attention to it than deemed necessary.
“I can assure you, Your Majesty, Lino is no longer a bandit, and as I’ve said, he is indebted to me.” You tried to assure him. “He has pledged himself in my honor and strayed from the path he once walked. I apologize for his defiance, he is still getting accustomed to life on Royal territory.”
With a nod of his head, Foucher turned his body around to address his guards in a silent conversation, no doubt telling them to keep an eye on the young lad, and in that time, you reached over and punched Lino on his leather-clad arm.
“Ow! Why?” he hissed under his breath.
Ah yes, Lino Lee, the man of many words.
“Show some respect,” you growled in a low tone. “You’re in the presence of the leader of Serpent Point.”
Lino rolled his eyes, his fingers coming down to fiddle with the sheath that one of his two daggers rested in; the matching one sat on his opposite hip.
“After everything he’s done to Chan? To you? Not a chance.” Lino glowered back quietly. You raised your eyebrow and gave him a look of warning at his usual act of defiance. The two of you then stared off for a second, silently challenging one another, before Lino’s eyes fell from yours and he gave in like he always did when it came to you. He may have quickly established himself the title of the crew’s most lethal and loyal protector, but you were the one who had control of the leash.
“Fine,” he grumbled under his breath. “I’ll be as respectful as I need to be, but I’m not getting on this filthy floor to bow down to him.”
You had to resist the urge to roll your eyes at him again. As if he hadn’t lain on floors worse than this in his days of being a delinquent.
A smart-ass remark sat on the tip of your tongue, but before you could release it, Foucher turned back around and clapped his hands, capturing everyone's attention once again.
“Everything alright, Captain?” he asked with a smirk, staring at you as if to say ‘trouble in paradise already?’. You straightened your back and gave him an assured nod of your head.
“Everything is fine, Your Majesty. I do, however, have a lot of work to be done on my ship before our scheduled departure come morning. As much as I hate to cut our visit short, may I ask why you’ve called upon us today?”
The words rolled off your tongue with a bitter aftertaste, but Foucher barely registered the annoyance in your tone, his smile warm as he retreated to his seat.
“Of course,”
You, Chan and Lino, waited patiently in silence while Foucher settled back into the worn-out fabric. A couple of long seconds passed by before he spoke again, his fingers tapping against one another in boredom.
“Queen Aliyah of Cliffpoint Hollow has sent word that she has a criminal sitting in her jailhouse. The criminal in question is a thief who has been robbing me and my men for nearly a decade. He had escaped our jail unnoticed merely three years ago and he’s been evading us ever since.”
You gave Foucher an expressionless look while you waited for him to continue, wondering what any of this had to do with you and your crew. Meanwhile, Chan’s eyes practically bulged out of his face, his mouth open in surprise.
“Wait, the Queen Aliyah? As in-”
“The leader of the land, ruler of Fatewatch? Yes, indeed, the very one.” Foucher confirmed, cutting Chan off without a glance his way. His eyes stayed focused on you as he continued with his proposal.
“I have a chest in my treasury containing more than fifty thousand gold doubloons, alongside a large amount of stolen gems and jewelry. I cannot be bothered to take it all to a moving man, so the lot of it can be yours if you travel to Cliffpoint and bring that thief back to me.”
Your jaw dropped disrespectfully in utter shock, and you felt both boys tense up beside you at the offer. Fifty thousand gold was an unfathomable amount of money. If each of those coins was valued at sixteen dollars a piece like they usually were, you were looking at at least eight hundred thousand dollars in gold, not including the stolen goods.
You’d be stupid to turn that down.
However, if there was anything you learned from your time spent at sea, it was that everything came with a price.
Absolutely everything.
“Sir, I-”
Foucher cut you off abruptly with a raise of his hand.
“I would prefer him alive, but he is known to be quite cocky at times, so if it comes down to it, his dead body will do. Of course, it’ll dock your pay, but I’m sure you’d still have enough to cover the costs to get your beloved ship back in order.”
Foucher waited while you, Lino and Chan exchanged mixed looks of confusion, apprehension and disbelief. The room was silent for a few minutes as the three of you attempted to process the information.
That was until Lino opened his mouth.
“And what exactly is it that this thief stole from you?” Lino spoke suddenly, cocking his head to the side like a cat as he eyed Foucher as if he were merely a peasant and not the goddamn overseer of the entire northern point of Fatewatch. “How bad of a crime did he commit to justify us travelling across the globe to fetch him for you? Why not let the Queen kill him instead?”
“Lino!” you hissed between clenched teeth, seemingly having enough of his attitude. “Will you cu-”
“It’s alright Captain,” Foucher raised his hand to cut you off once more, a sly smile on his face. “The bandit has the right to ask, I suppose.”
Your fingers twitched as Foucher raised from his seat and walked towards the three of you again, his hands folded neatly behind his back. A sense of unease washed over you as you took in his calm and relaxed facade.
“You see when I was a young boy, my mother fell incredibly ill and passed away tragically. When she died, she left behind her ring, one that had been passed down through generations and generations of ancestors before me, and this criminal stole it from right under my nose. He now wears this ring on his pointer finger like some trophy he’s won for robbing me blind. I simply want it back.”
Lino scoffed as he crossed his muscular arms over his broad chest, raising an eyebrow in defiance. “You want us to travel halfway across the globe to fetch you a flimsy ring?”
Before anyone could say another word, Foucher’s hand retreated from behind his back, and in one swift motion, he backhanded Lino across the face. Foucher’s eyes burned hot as he smacked the younger man, and if it weren’t for Foucher then raising his hands to halt the guards behind him who were bustling for a fight, you would’ve run to Lino’s side.
However, shock rendered you stuck in place.
Lino stood in shock as well at the Jarl’s actions. A strand of hair fell into his face, but he didn’t bother trying to fix it. He simply stood there, eyes angry as he whipped his head back to glare at the Jarl, whose eyes widened in what you could only assume was a sliver of fear at the dangerous look now planted on Lino’s face.
For a second, you worried for the Jarl’s life, but Lino didn’t move, for which you were thankful. He may have hated Royals with every fiber of his being, but he knew when to fight back and when not to. You silently thanked the gods that he didn’t retaliate.
“Watch your tongue, boy.” Foucher snapped, seemingly masking his terror behind his title of authority. Droplets of spit spewed from his mouth and into Lino’s face. “That ring is a family heirloom. Sixteenth-century gold, embedded with only the finest diamonds and rubies alike. You should be thankful a lowlife pillager like yourself will even be able to set his sights on something so magnificent.”
Without a second thought, Foucher stepped away from a now-fuming Lino and approached you with a wide, almost sadistic smile. The anger in his eyes had vanished so quickly it nearly gave you whiplash, and you had to slightly raise your fingers to stop Lino from rushing to your defense.
“So, Captain. Whaddya say?”
You opened your mouth to give him your answer, to tell him just exactly where he could shove his chest of treasure and stolen goods when Chan spoke up first, cutting you off. His tone was harsh and venomous, clearly pissed at Foucher’s assault on his crewmate.
“But Father,” he paused and corrected himself quickly with a smirk. “Sorry, Foucher. Why are you asking this of us? You have an entire army of men at your beck and call, as well as one of the best navigators in the country no doubt naked in your bed as we speak. Why do you need us to do this for you?”
Although it was meant as a dig at the Jarl and his piggish personality, Foucher laughed humorlessly at Chan’s words. The sound was like metal scraping metal, and it made all the hair on the back of your neck stick up.
“Well because, dear Cristoff,” Foucher spoke his name with a sneer. “Captain Y/N and the crew of the Blackened Heart have unfortunately become infamous across the country. Stories of your victories have been passed through taverns and inns alike for years. It’s the only reason I haven’t called on you to return to my side. If there’s anyone who could travel to Cliffpoint Hollow and bring this criminal back to me, it’s you guys.”
Your face reddened immensely at the Jarl's sudden praise.
“Cliffpoint is merely a few months or so away, and quite frankly, none of my men are trained and confident enough to make the trek themselves. As I said, do this and the three of you, alongside the other five, will be rewarded greatly for your service. We’ll provide you with enough supplies for you and your goons to make the journey there, as long as you bring that scum of a human being back to me so I can put an end to his pathetic life once and for all.”
It felt like a dream. Sure, Cliffpoint Hollow was a long journey from home, halfway across the globe as Lino had pointed out before, but if all you had to do to earn fifty thousand gold was deliver a thief to the Jarl’s doorstep, you’d be stupid not to say yes.
You looked at Lino, whose cheek was still burning red, silently asking for his opinion. He ignored the stinging in his face and shrugged at you nonchalantly, but the twinkle in his eyes showed he was anxious for the adventure.
Or maybe he was just anxious to get the hell away from Serpent Point once and for all before his annoyance took over and he beheaded the Jarl before anyone could blink an eye.
Chan gave you a nod of encouragement as well, clearly desperate to experience the world the way he said he wanted to when he walked out on his father and showed up at your ship all those years ago. This was a free ticket across the globe, something he never would’ve been granted if he still lived under Foucher’s watch. There was no way he was turning this down.
You cocked your head back to look at Foucher, rubbing your hands nervously against the black trousers you wore. You cleared your throat once, bringing yourself to ask the one question you were dying to know since the mission was brought upon you.
“What’s the thief's name?” you inquired with a raised brow. If Foucher was asking this of you, whoever it was had to be important. And transporting important prisoners usually came with enemies who would do anything to make sure the jailbird wouldn't make it back alive. If you were going to potentially put your men in danger, you needed details.
Foucher must’ve mistook your question as a ‘yes’, because he clapped his hands and opened his arms wide, a joyous victory on his lips. He smiled brightly at you and he came forward, wrapping his large, wrinkly hands around your face and holding you like you were the most precious thing in the world to him.
The feeling made your gut twist uncomfortably.
“Maybe you’ve heard of him. He’s Scout’s youngest boy. You know Scout, yes?”
Your teeth clenched tightly the second the name left his mouth. A burning coil of anger sparked in your stomach as you recognized the name of the leader of the Thieves Den. The one who took everything from you, including your family. The one who committed the bloodiest heist on Serpent Point soil and still somehow got away. The memory of it punched you in the chest, while the memory of his son nearly brought you to your knees completely.
This was why Foucher wanted you and your crew to do this. This was why he called upon you and your men to take on such a task, making such an unfathomable offer for the job.
Anybody in the world could do it. City patrons and pirates alike have been doing so for years with little to no payout as a reward.
This wasn’t just a delivery mission.
It was a test of loyalty.
One he was expecting you to fail if the sparkle in his eyes was anything to go by.
Fifty thousand gold hung in the balance, and you were determined to get it. Not only for you but for the seven men who happily followed you and worked for you as if you were their Queen.
Your hands clenched into fists, your nails digging into your palms hard enough to draw blood, but the Jarl continued to speak, completely unaware of the turmoil happening in your chest.
“He was the one who ambushed me and my men in Fogrush Bay. I believe he goes by -”
“Jisung fucking Han II.” you seethed.
“I’m just saying, if Queen Aliyah is the leader of all of Fatewatch, why does she live on a whole other continent instead of here?” Lino grumbled, trailing after you and Chan as the three of you made your way back to the docks. His confusion drew hearty laughs from you and Chan, echoing in the quiet dawn that settled over the town.
“Who knows, Li,” you shrugged, stepping aside to let a small carriage clatter past before falling back in line. “Maybe the rum is just better in Cliffpoint.”
Lino scowled, unimpressed. “Doesn’t make a damn bit of sense to me.”
You chuckled, enjoying how such a trivial mystery could get under his skin so easily. It was a welcome distraction from the anxiety that still swirled in your gut after that tense meeting with Foucher. Lino probably sensed it too; he had a knack for reading your mood without a word, one of the reasons why he was such a reliable guard—and an even better lover if you might add.
“Nothing ever makes sense to you, Lino. You’re about as dense as Paisley’s baking.” Chan’s grin was wide as he gave Lino a playful shove, making him stumble.
“Oh, shut it, Chan,” Lino muttered back, though a reluctant smile crept onto his face as he regained his footing.
“Just another one of life's greatest mysteries,” you teased.
Lino rolled his eyes, nose wrinkling in irritation. “Like the time you got all riled up about why cats stick their tongues out when they’re happy.” you then added with a grin.
Lino’s dark eyes slid to you, narrowing in a faux glare. “Yeah, well, at least felines are cute.” You snickered and patted him on the back in mock reassurance.
“Hey. I hear Queen Aliyah’s pretty cute too.” You winked, but Lino’s gaze darkened to a scowl, and for a moment, you caught the dangerous edge in his expression, sending goosebumps down your arms.
“As if I give a damn,” Lino sneered. “You know how much I despise royals.”
Chan clicked his tongue disapprovingly, bringing your attention back to him. “Listen, Lino,” he smirked, pink creeping up his cheeks. “You don’t have to fancy royals for them to be a good lay.”
His words made you scoff and cross your arms before granting him a bored look. “Oh, please Channie—you’re practically a virgin.”
Chan’s eyes widened, mouth gaping, too stunned to speak as he tripped over his own feet. Righting himself, he looked at you in betrayed disbelief.
“I am not!” he finally managed, clutching his chest dramatically. You ignored the strange looks the three of you were now receiving from passers-by and gave him a sly but interested smile in return.
“Oh, is that so? You’ve spent the last eight years at sea with me. When exactly would you have had a chance to ‘entertain’ a royal?”
The colour in Chan’s cheeks deepened, and suddenly, he looked like a man with a story to tell. He shrugged, straightening with a newfound confidence before Lino draped an arm over his shoulders in intrigue.
“Let’s just say, Jarl Alderidge’s daughter wasn’t the only woman I… indulged in back when I was set to court her,” he admitted. You and Lino both raised your eyebrows at him in question, trying to piece together his meaning.
Chan had left his father's side when he was barely eighteen years old. He was set to court and marry a royal from a few cities over, but he left shortly after the courting began. You blinked a couple of times, thinking back to the awful family he was supposed to be wed into, and realisation finally dawned on you as the pieces fell into place. Your stomach turned in mock disgust as you reached out and gave him a light punch on the arm.
“Oh, for the love of—Jarl Alderidge’s wife?”
Chan blocked your half-hearted blow, laughing. “What? Lady Tatiana is a beautiful woman, and the opportunity presented itself. Who was I to deny her?”
You aimed another punch his way, but Lino quickly tugged you back with a laugh, one hand wrapped around your waist while the other clapped Chan on the shoulder. “Good grief, Channie, you should have been born in a brothel.”
The two of them snorted, and you rolled your eyes, suppressing the urge to smack the pride off their faces.
“Does Paisley know about this?” you asked, shaking off Lino’s arm and falling back into step beside them.
“Of course, she knows.” Chan’s expression softened at the mention of his soon-to-be wife. “I’d never keep anything from her. Paisley and I—there’s nothing we wouldn’t tell each other.”
You and Lino exchanged a look, simultaneously groaning in exaggerated disgust.
“Ew.”
“Gross.”
Chan shook his head and gave the two of you a pointed stare.
“What’s the matter with you two?” he asked, clearly offended by your reactions.
“Human connection is what’s the matter,” you answered with a shrug.
“It’s absolutely sickening,” Lino added with a cringe.
Chan's face fell. “What? What’s so gross and sickening about having an open and honest relationship with the one I love most? What is it about having someone to come home to after weeks at sea that makes the two of you so disgusted?”
You gagged theatrically.
“Literally every part of what you just said.”
Chan then rolled his eyes, clearly exasperated.
“You two are closer than anyone else I know. Isn’t that deeper than what Paisley and I have? Seungmo and Millie? Jinn and Ophelia?”
You let out a long sigh as the three of you finally stepped back onto the old, decaying dock. The boards of wood groaned beneath your feet, some barely holding together. “Oh please, Channie. There is absolutely nothing romantic between Lino and me. We’re just… mutually beneficial.”
“Right,” Lino agreed as you squeezed past the rows of empty carts crowding the walkway. “I’d rather jab a dagger into my own eye than settle down.”
Chan shot the bandit a look of pure disbelief.
“And I’m the one who belongs in a brothel?”
Both you and Lino shared a final laugh as you approached your ship, anchored at the end of the dock like a beast at rest. Leading the way, you crossed the narrow plank that bridged the dock to your vessel, landing with a solid thud.
Jinn, your sharp-eyed sailing master, was leaning against the railing, chewing idly on tobacco, while Binni, your burly artilleryman, sat next to him on a creaky old stool, the two of them mid-conversation. Their words stopped short the instant you touched down.
“Welcome back, Cap.” Jinn greeted, flicking his head to the side as he spat overboard without care. “How did things go with the Jarl?”
You let out a heavy exhale, mind already on the meeting you’d be calling shortly with the rest of your crew. They wouldn’t be happy that you decided on this new job alone; normally, the entire crew weighs in before a vote is held. But today, your gut had already made the call.
“Went fine. Important business,” you replied with a curt nod of your head, watching as Jinn’s expression tightened slightly in response. You then turned to Chan, the light-hearted mood from earlier gone. As soon as your feet hit the surface of your ship, it was business as usual. “Get everyone together below deck. Crew meeting in ten.”
Chan nodded, the humour in his eyes vanishing as he took off to round up the others. You barely spared him a second glance as you turned back to Jinn, whose lounging posture now told you he had no intention of springing into action like his crewmate.
“Are the twins back yet?” you asked.
“Not last I saw,” Jinn replied. “They went down to the market.” He raised a brow and shrugged, clearly unconcerned.
You let out a quiet sigh and glanced at Binni, who only gave you a knowing smile in return.
“Go get them, Jinn. We’re in a hurry.”
You watched with little patience as Jinn rolled his eyes with all the petulance of a bored child. “Why me? Binni’s been sitting here gnawing on jerky all day. Let him get off his ass for once.” he complained in his typical tone of defiance.
Binni raised his eyebrows, slowly standing as he glowered at the younger male. Although he was a head shorter than Jinn, his solid build made him all the more imposing. He loomed over Jinn with a look that would send most men scurrying away in fear, but Jinn, ever used to the infamous glower, held his ground unfazed.
Before either of them could escalate, you stepped in between them, pushing each back a step.
“Enough,” you snapped before turning your glare back to your navigator. “Jinn, unless you’ve suddenly developed a talent for taking stock and loading the armoury, I suggest you stop whining and get moving.”
Jinn's face turned red, and with a small bow of compliance, he brushed past you, grumbling as he left the ship.
“Move it!” you called after him. “We don’t have all day!”
“I know, Cap!” he yelled back, though he picked up the pace as he disappeared down the dock. You watched him go in the dying light of day, shaking your head. “One more comment like that, Jinn, and you’ll be scrubbing bird shit off this deck for a month!”
Jinn spun to bow quickly once more before breaking into a jog, knowing full well you meant it. With a sigh, you turned back to Binni, but he was already stowing the stool and heading off below deck, tossing a salute over his shoulder.
“Inventory check. I’ll meet you down there when I’m done.”
You gave Binni a thankful smile as he ran off, leaving you to stand in the light of the sunset alone. There was a light breeze coming off the ocean across from you, and you allowed yourself a brief moment of peace, watching the sky morph from blues and whites to purples and pinks and oranges.
The smell of saltine water, the cool breeze of the summer air, the soft sway of the ship, the caw of gulls wheeling overhead. It was moments like these, moments of complete serenity, that you enjoyed the most, that made you feel completely grounded. It made you feel sentimental, reminiscing back to when you began your life as the first female pirate in all of Fatewatch. It reminded you why you began adventuring in the first place.
You stood for what felt like hours, watching the sky morph and change with each passing second. You admired the way the sun lowered itself on the horizon, bright and satisfied at the day's end, and how the clouds and warmth seemed to chase it. And although you always found the rise and fall of the large orange star in the sky beautiful, you couldn’t deny that you were aching for nightfall.
“You’ve been staring at that horizon for a long time now, Y/N.”
A slow smile spread across your face at the sound of the wooden artificial leg being dragged against the surface of the ship. A wooden door closing against its hinges a second later had you popping your eyes away from the sky to come face-to-face with the blue-haired boy from across the way.
“The Captain won’t like you skipping important meetings.” Yongbok teased with a smile. You sent him a bright grin as your arms folded across your chest.
“Hello Yongbokki.” you greeted, bumping your shoulder with his when he stopped beside you. He took a moment to gracefully lean his body against the railing behind him, a small wince flashing quickly across his freckled face. He was still getting used to living with his new leg, and you reached a hand out instinctively help support him.
“You guys made it back just in time,” he spoke as if he wasn’t in any pain at all, and if it wasn’t for the fact that he was no longer looking at you, but out across the ocean at the same horizon you were moments before, you would’ve scowled at him for trying to play it off.
“I think I finally perfected those salmon steaks I’ve been struggling with for the last month.” His eyes sparkled with pride and excitement at his small victory, meanwhile, your stomach growled loudly at the mention of food. You clapped him on the back with a pleased laugh.
“Perfect timing, Yongbokki. We’ll have to set the table for everyone before the meeting starts. I have a feeling the boys will take my news better on full stomachs.”
Yongboks grin turned suspicious, one brow arched as you pushed yourself off the railing you were also leaning against and held a hand out to help him stand.
“What did you do this time, Cap?” he teased. “Sold Binni to another cathouse I presume?”
You rolled your eyes, laughing once more as you took hold of his hand and headed towards the creaky old door that led below deck. “Will you let that go? That was one time!”
Yongbok’s laughter echoed as you entered the ship, veering down to the kitchen at the end of the corridor. “One time too many, Cap. If it happens again, I’m afraid Bin will be gone for good.”
Jinn returned moments after everyone else had settled at the dining table, Jeo and Seungmo trailing behind. The three of them exchanged quiet jokes as they hastily took their seats, their faces lighting up at the sight of the meal before them.
Fish steaks, steaming and fragrant, rested on thick wooden plates that Binni had crafted weeks prior. Cutlery was arranged meticulously beside them and metal tankards were filled to the brim with ale, allowing the table to be a testament to the care Yongbokki had poured into the preparation.
You leaned back slightly, observing your crew as they dug into the meal. Despite the unease swirling in your gut, you waited, letting them savour the peace of a shared dinner table before revealing the storm on the horizon.
You watched as Jinn, ever the orderly one, gestured for Seungmo to take the breadbasket from his hands, the corners of his mouth twitching up as he said, “You’ll thank me later for making sure you’re not just eating meat, Mo.”
Seungmo rolled his eyes, tearing into a piece of bread but muttering something about ‘overbearing mother hens.’ Jeo chuckled, his fox-like eyes catching yours briefly before he focused on his plate.
You felt the weight of the news pressing against your chest as you watched them—your crew, your family. The money Foucher offered was good, almost impossibly good, but there was that nagging whisper in the back of your mind, the one that suggested it might not be enough to sway them. Especially not Jinn and Seungmo.
When most of the plates were cleared, Jeo broke the casual hum of conversation. He wiped his mouth with a serviette and leaned forward slightly, his sharp, curious eyes locking onto yours.
“So, Cap,” he began, his tone light but pointed. “What’s this meeting for?”
Binni shifted, leaning back in his chair and tossing you a quizzical look, meanwhile, Seungmo perked up, his brows drawing together.
“Oh yeah! The meeting with Foucher. How’d it go?” his voice held a genuine curiosity, though you could see he was already trying to piece together why it needed to involve all of them.
Setting your fork down, you glanced at Lino and Chan, both of whom offered small, encouraging nods. That gave you just enough courage to speak.
“The meeting with Foucher went...well.” you began carefully, letting your words hang as you measured everyone's reactions. “He’s got another job for us.”
That caught their attention. Forks paused mid-air, and a hush settled over the surrounding tables where the two and a half dozen sailors under your command sat, waiting for you to finish. Jinn tilted his head slightly, studying you with a guarded expression as he began gathering a small stack of empty plates.
“What kind of job this time?” he asked, voice calm but curious.
You hesitated for a brief moment. “He wants us to travel to Cliffpoint Hollow,” you said finally, your voice firmer now. “We’re to escort a prisoner back to him.”
The impact of your words was immediate. Jeo, mid-drink, choked and nearly sent his ale spewing across the table, causing Lino to reach over and clap his back while he spluttered about.
“Cliffpoint Hollow?” Binni straightened abruptly, his easygoing demeanour gone. His wide eyes pinned you in place at your end of the table. “Did you just say Cliffpoint Hollow?”
“I did,” you confirmed with a single nod. Silence fell over the room again for a moment before Jeo spoke up once more.
“Captain, with all due respect,” he started in a gruff tone from his choking, his fingers now toying with the handle of the metal tankard in front of him. “We’re supposed to be on break right now. Seungmo’s dying to get home to see Millie, and Jinn still has yet to even meet his kid. I don’t think any of us could take on another adventure.”
Seungmo cast a glance towards you. Though he kept his expression neutral, the flicker of disappointment on his face was unmistakable. He was usually calm and composed, but even he had his limits.
You let out a heavy sigh, rubbing your temple before clasping your hands together on the table before you. You watched as Chan began wiping the dirty surface with an old rag before you continued your plea.
“Look, guys, I understand.” you grimaced before meeting Seungmo’s gaze again. He was leaning against the archway to the kitchenette, waiting for whatever you were to say next. “I know we were all looking forward to this break. But Foucher offered us more money than we’ve ever seen for a single job before—and you know what that kind of coin could mean for all of us.”
“Enough for how long though?” Binni asked with a wary glance. “I mean, we risk our necks for him time and time again, and all he does is keep upping the stakes. First, it’s cargo runs, now prisoner escorts halfway across the globe?”
Yongbok nodded in agreement from where he was standing next to Seungmo with his arms folded across his chest. His usual smile was nowhere to be found. “Binni’s right. This isn’t just a supply run or a simple trade, Cap. Cliffpoint Hollow, as beautiful as it may be, is nearly six months away, and that's if the ship is sturdy enough to make it. There's no other towns and outposts across the open waters for miles. There’s nowhere to stop for resupply, and if the rumours are true, those waters are crawling with hostiles.”
Murmurs of concern spread throughout the dining room, each of your men weighing the risk in their minds, grumbling and conversing in distress. You had to raise a hand to quiet them all down once more.
“I hear you guys. Believe me, I do. Your concerns and uneasiness do not go unnoticed. But this is fifty thousand gold we’re talking about here. That’s not counting the stolen jewellery and gems Foucher’s throwing in as part of the deal.”
Jeo’s eyes widened, his initial shock giving way to an almost childlike excitement. Yongbok, too, couldn’t hide his intrigue, though he tried to mask it. Even Binni, skeptical as ever, seemed to soften at the mention of the payout.
But Jinn and Seungmo remained unmoved. Jinn crossed his arms, his expression unreadable. “How do we even know he’s good for it?” he asked. “Did you see the loot, or are we just taking his word?”
“I saw it,” you said sharply, the lie tasting bitter on your tongue. “I wouldn’t be here asking this if I wasn’t sure.”
You didn’t need to see the loot to know Foucher had it. The loot was rightfully yours after all, though you weren’t about to admit that to your crew. You’d been keeping your past a secret from them for years, and the less they knew about it, the better.
Everyone was silent for another moment before Binni set the feet of his chair down on the wooden floorboards and leaned forward, his interest piqued.
“When does he want us to leave?” He asked. His tone was casual, but the weight of the question hung heavy. You swallowed roughly and let out an exhale
“At dawn.”
Seungmo was the first one to crack under the pressure. He surged forward in annoyance, his feet scratching loudly against the floor.
“Are you fucking mad?” His voice rang with frustration, his cheeks flushed. “Jinn and I are supposed to be home by the end of the week. Home, Cap. To our wives!” His hand hit the table with a dull thud, punctuating his words as he leaned over the table. “You promised us the summer to rest!”
You opened your mouth to respond, but Seungmo was too far gone, his emotions taking over. “We just finished a brutal job from Hawthorne, and now you want us to play delivery boys for Foucher? Do you even hear yourself?”
Your jaw tightened. The reaction wasn’t unexpected, but the raw edge in Seungmo’s voice still cut deep. The room bristled with the tension of his outburst.
“Seung, sit down,” Lino said evenly, though his voice carried an edge of warning. His gaze darted briefly to you before returning to Seungmo. Seungmo, however, ignored Lino’s demand and hit the table again with another thud.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” his laugh was bitter. “We were supposed to go home. I mean, did you even stop to consider Jinn and I? I have a wife at home waiting for me, fuck. Jinn has a wife and a newborn baby boy that he hasn’t even met yet! Are you trying to tell me we’re not allowed to go home and see them? That we have to stop our lives and do Foucher’s bidding once again?”
“Seungmo, that’s enough!” Lino growled, his eye calculating the younger male’s every move. He knew Seungmo would never outwardly hurt you, not intentionally anyway, but Seungmo’s temper was a force all its own.
You stood abruptly then, slamming your hand down on the table hard enough to rattle the few tankards that were still being used. The sound snapped the room’s attention back to you. Your blood was beginning to boil from his insinuation.
“Do you think I don’t know that?” you snapped, your voice rising with authority. “You don’t think I took any of that into consideration when Foucher offered us the deal?” you nearly snarled at him. The room fell silent once more, every pair of eyes on you as you pushed forward, your voice shaking with conviction.
“Of course, I want you two to go home and spend time with your family. I want all of us to have a break. But this isn’t just about today or tomorrow, Seungmo. This is about our future. All of ours. I want you and Yongbokki to have enough money to open the inn that you guys are always raving and ranting about in every goddamn city we stop in. I want Jinn to be able to afford a nursery for his son so the poor thing doesn’t have to room with them until he’s of age to leave home. I want Jeo to have enough money to open the orphanage he’s been planning out since he was thirteen, and I want Lino to start up the Fighter’s Guild in Eagles Bay. I want Chan and Binni to buy their own ship one day and continue on the legacy we started. I want all of us to be happy and content, and with the payout from this job, I know we can get all of that and more.”
You squeezed your hand into a fist and dug your nails into your skin, taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm yourself down before finishing.
“I only want what’s best for all of you.” your voice ran with unyielding conviction, though a tremor of emotion lurked beneath the surface. You swept your gaze over the rest of your crew members once before landing back on Seungmo again. “Don’t you dare, for even a second, think I don’t put you guys first in every decision I make.”
The room fell eerily silent. The faint sound of waves lapping against the dock outside was the only movement in the air, the tension thick and palpable. Seungmo’s hard expression wavered, his eyes narrowing slightly as your words pierced through his frustration. The defiance that had lit his face moments before began to soften, replaced by the faint shine of regret.
He swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing with the effort.
“I-I’m sorry, Cap,” he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. He dropped his head, the tips of his ears burning red. “I’m sorry for lashing out.” His hand moved quickly, swiping away at the corner of his eye before disappearing behind his messy brown hair.
The sight of Seungmo, the crews usually unshakable morale booster, humbled like this tugged at your chest. You leaned forward, reaching across the table to rest a hand on his shoulder. The fabric beneath your touch was worn but familiar, and you pressed your thumb into small circles, a gesture of quiet reassurance.
“It’s alright, Seung. Take a breath,” you said gently, the edge in your tone giving way to warmth. You waited as he inhaled deeply, his chest rising and falling as he tried to steady himself.
“I understand your frustrations, and I’m sorry for not consulting with you guys first. If you truly want to go home, if any of you do…” you paused, letting your eyes sweep across the room. “We’ll drop you off on the way out. No hard feelings. Chan will keep your share safe until we return.”
The silence that followed felt heavier than before, a quiet reckoning passing through the room. Jeo fidgeted with the edge of his sleeve, his wide eyes darting nervously between Seungmo and Jinn, while Yongbok began chewing on the nail of his thumb, a nervous habit he picked up years ago.
It was Binni who finally broke the tension, leaning back in his chair with his usual devilish grin. “I think I can speak for the majority of us when I say, we’re with you, Captain.” He let out a bark of laughter, his chair tilting precariously. “You’re a crazy sonofa bitch, but you’re our crazy sonofa bitch. I’m in.”
Jeo let out a breath of relief and nodded. “Me too,” he said, his voice lighter, though the faintest trace of unease lingered in his eyes.
“Aye,” Yongbok called out with glee.
You felt a swell of gratitude, but the real test lay in the two pairs of eyes that hadn’t yet confirmed their loyalty; Jinn and Seungmo. The room seemed to collectively hold its breath as attention shifted toward them.
Jinn was the first to speak, his mouth quirking into a faint smile.
“I’ve been meaning to pay a visit to Cliffpoint,” he said, his voice rumbling through the stillness. “If Ophelia finds out I had the chance to see her homeland and didn’t take it, I’d never hear the end of it.” His grin widened as he glanced around at the rest of the crew. “Besides, it’s not a true journey without all of us. Eight makes fate.”
Your heart lifted at his words, and you gave him a grateful nod before turning to Seungmo. All eyes fell on the young man, who shifted uncomfortably under their weight. His lips pressed into a thin line as he considered the implications of the decision before him.
The silence stretched, almost unbearable, until Seungmo let out an exasperated huff of laughter. “I can’t believe we’re really doing this,” he muttered, shaking his head as a reluctant grin tugged at his mouth.
You didn’t wait for him to say more. You reached across the table, pulling him into a firm, grateful hug. His shoulders were tense for a moment before he relaxed. Letting out soft chuckles as you squeezed him.
“Oh, hush up,” you said with a laugh, releasing him and falling back in your chair with ease. “By this time next year, we’ll be the richest pirates in all of Fatewatch.”
Jinn ran a hand through his hair, leaning casually against the edge of the table. His easy smile faltered for just a moment, replaced by a flicker of concern.
“I hope you’re right about this, Cap.” he said, his voice quieter now, though it held more warmth than doubt.
You felt that same unease twist in your gut but pushed it down, forcing a confident smile onto your face.
“I’m always right,” you replied, your voice steady. But as the room began to fill with the hum of conversation and plans for the journey ahead, that gnawing feeling in your gut refused to leave.
Because deep down, you knew this wasn't just another job. It wasn't just another risk.
This was a gamble with the stakes stacked so high that one wrong move could unravel everything you worked your ass off for—and not even fifty-thousand gold could buy your way out.

Demonstober Day 17 Naga
In various Asian religious traditions, the Nagas (Sanskrit: नाग, romanized: Nāga)[1] are a divine, or semi-divine, race of half-human, half-serpent beings that reside in the netherworld (Patala), and can occasionally take human or part-human form, or are so depicted in art.

Sunlight shown down from the sky and lit up the world in a pretty golden glow. You sat there staring at the way it lit up the beautiful plants and flowers around you. It truly was a beautiful sight to see. The perfect start to the perfect morning to the perfect day...
However you felt anything else but happy let alone perfect.
A wince escaped your throat as the white coils around your body tightened up seeking heat, like the arms that hugged you close seeking comfort. Or the forehead that placed itself on the top of your head with a content sigh of his lips.
"Good morning. You look beautiful."
You didn't answer him. Only blankly continuing to stare at the opening from the den this monster kept you in. The only other sounds being the dripping water somewhere deep in the dark.
This wasn't what you wanted when you wanted to find love in your life. You wished you'd never have saved that snake back months ago. Back when you were happily blissfully ignorant of the monsters like the one that founded over you and held you hostage. Back when your only concern was preparing to get married to the love of your life and live happily ever after together with him as you both planned your wedding.
However fate had other plans for you. And it started with the day you went to the marketplace with your fiance.
It was a beautiful day. You'd both gotten up early in the morning and had breakfast. Since it was one of the rare days you didn't have any chores and your fiance had no jobs to do, you both decided to spend time together and go shopping at the local market.
The marketplace was a buzz with activity. From the many stalls lining the streets, to the people calling out to others to come but their wares, to the many customers walking the streets drawn to the hustle and bustle here. You yourself had one arm arms your fiance's arm and a basket hanging off your other already filled with a few things. A little trinket or two. A new book to read. Some food to cook for dinner that night. A gift for his mother. Really just random things. But you both weren't buying like crazy. Most of the time you only browsed at what the stalls offered before moving on without buying anything.
After a moment you even leaned up on top toes to kiss the smiling man on the cheek making him chuckle and kiss you back on the forehead. What a perfect day. Nothing could spoil this . morning between the two of you.
Until a woman's shriek from in front of you caused you both to jump and look up. A woman was screaming bloody murder. Her screech cascading over the marketplace startling everyone into silence and turning confused and surprised heads her way. Her feet jumped from one to another like if saw a mouse. Her face terrified. No one had any idea what she was screaming about until another woman looked down following her gaze and then also screamed.
"A SNAKE!!," the second woman screamed out pointing at the ground.
In a single moment multiple heads turned in that direction and many screams and shouts rang out as multiple people moved. A stampede of footsteps approached as people ran out of the way. Your fiance protectively wrapped his arms around you before you could be pushed over and you both finally got a chance to look at it. A small purse white snake was sat there within the stampede of humans curled in on itself other than it's neck looking this way and that now that there was a large clearing exposing itself to the terrified eyes of humans. It's head turned this way and that between the ring of people around it.
You stared at the small thing blinking. Huh. It didn't look that harmful. It just looked like a harmless albino garder snake. Sure a snake was terrifying especially if you don't know if it's venomous or not but.. come on. It looked more scared of the humans than the humans did of it. The yelling of the people had caught even MORE people's attention and eventually it caught the attention of a nearby store owner who took one look at the snake and scowled. Immediately reaching behind the door and suddenly producing a broom.
He brandished it his hands like a spear before firmly stomping towards the snake and with a hard jab slammed the hard bristles into the snake. Immediately the snake whipped it's head up to the angry man and let out a loud hiss exposing a couple fangs but it's was cut off from another painful hard jab from the man.
"Get out of here you disgusting beast!," he yelled at the snake as it continued to hiss and cower with each jab the man did. Before he started forcing the small snake back with every jab hitting it hard. "Shoo! Back to the damned woods where you belong!"
When the snake didn't move fast enough, he slammed it's tiny head with the broom before kicking the dazed creature like a ball sending it flying- People shrieked and scrambled out of the way of the flying snake. Either diving, ducking, or tripping over trying to scramble back as the kick sent it flying through the air. On instinct your fiance made you duck as it went flying literally over your head before with quite a loud thud it collided into a store wall and fell to the ground. More people backed away from it, and one man in the next stall over selling furniture jumped on one of the chairs. You slowly stood back up and looked at the poor thing blinking.
The snake didn't move as it lied there and for a moment everyone thought the impact had killed it.. before it opened it's eyes and slowly raised it's head. It seemed very dazed swaying from side to side. Perhaps it had a concussion? There was just a murmur as everyone else stared at it in hatred ... before you dropped your basket and started forward.
"Y/n, don't!," your fiance called after you reaching out but you were already walking past everyone staring in horror and up to the snake.
The snake shook its head before looking up at you as your shadow fell over it. For a long time you stared at it before smiling and kneeling down and holding your hands out.
"Hey there, little guy. Are you lost?," you cooed at it.
"Y/n, get away from that thing! It's dangerous!"
"Don't worry! It's not venomous. It's a garder snake!," you called back before turning back to the snake that seemed to tilt its head in a confused way at you. "You're not dangerous are you? You probably just accidentally got lost and ran into some mean humans. It's ok. I'll put you back where you belong."
The snake tilted it's head more at you but it didn't hiss when you reached your hands out cooing to it, or when you gently pushed your hands under it and grabbed it or when you picked it up and turned around smiling. People gasped and stepped back as you walked with it in your hands. It continued to look at you and around it as you carried it back to your fiance who frowned.
"See? It's nonvenomous."
"I see that now but you still shouldn't pick up random snakes. What if it bite you anyways because it was scared?," he pointed out. "Or what if there's something slimy on it?"
"Actually that's a myth. Snakes aren't slimy, they're scales are just very smooth."
"You know what I mean. Just hurry up and put it down before it does bite you!"
"Alright. Alright. Come on. Let's get you home."
You slowly made your way through the crowds carefully holding the snake carefully as it curled around your arm and continued to look at you before you and your fiance finally got out of the marketplace and you stopped by a small patch of bushes off the road. You carefully knelt down and pried the snake from your arm only to place the little thing on the ground. It sat there staring at you for a long moment before turning to slither off into the bushes disappearing.
"There. At least that's done. Let's go home now before anything else happens."
You rolled your eyes before standing back up to turn to your fiance. "Don't be so down. It was the right thing to do and doing good things always brings good fortune your way."
"Hm. Maybe. But next time you shouldn't..." Your fiance paused, eyes blinking at you before they widened and you jumped when he suddenly grabbed your arm. "YOUR ARM!!"
"Huh? What about it?"
You looked at the arm the snake had wrapped itself around and blinked as you saw the imprint of it on your skin. Like...a bruise or birthmark. What the-
"I KNEW YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TOUCHED IT! You're probably allergic to snakes! Or it squeezed you too hard!," he fussed looking at it in worry.
"But it didn't even squeeze me that hard."
"Whatever! We're going to the doctor's and then I'm taking you home this instant!"
Well he did march you to the doctor before taking you straight home. The doctor found nothing wrong, just saying it was probably just a bruise from the snake squeezing your arm and to take it easy for the rest of the day. The next day though the markings were still there but they looked a part of your skin now.. Like a birthmark almost. Your fiance frowned anytime he saw it muttering to himself or saying that you shouldn't have touched that snake.
It didn't hurt but it was weird that the bruises didn't go away even four days after that incident. You supposed it was some kind of scars? You shrugged it off and didn't think much of it. It didn't affect you significantly so it didn't matter in the end. Life went on as normal. Until one day. Your fiance was reading a book as you swept the floors. A normal day. When there was a knock on the door that had both of you looking up.
"I'll get it," you called putting your broom to the side, "It might be my mother."
"Alright, Honey," your fiance said before just going back to his book.
You happily walked up to the door and opened it smiling expecting to see your family or maybe a neighbor.. However you blinked at the total stranger on your porch. A short black haired man was standing there staring at you with mitch-matched eyes and a mask covering the lower half of his face. He dressed in black and white clothing and he stared at you intently as you stood there blinking.
You blinked a few more times as this strange man before asking the generic question. "Um..Can I help you?"
"Yes." His voice was blunt and it made you uneasy.
"Oh. Um.." You didn't know this man. Was he one of your fiance's friends? A new neighbor? "How can I help you? Are you lost?"
"No."
"Oh. Did you-..Just move here?" You were hopeful it was just a new neighbor trying to introduce himself.
"I don't live here."
"Then are you asking for directions somewhere?"
"No."
"Then what do you want?"
His eyes widened in awe at you. "You."
You blinked. ...What? "Excuse me?"
"Honey, are you ok?"
You turned as footsteps approached you and a moment later your fiance appeared making the other man looked shocked. "I don't know. There's a strange man at the door."
"What?" Your fiance looked over you concerned before looking at the other man. They both lookef each other up and down .. before the stranger scowled at him. "Who's this?"
"I was hoping you knew."
"Who are you?," the stranger asked in a accusing demanding way pointing at your fiance.
Your fiance bewildered and slightly annoyed frowned back. "I'm here fiance."
"FIANCE?!" He looked shocked at the answer mitch-matched eyes widening.
"That's right." Your fiance crossed his arms staring down at the smaller man. "And who in the world are YOU?"
The stranger didn't answer. He just looked at your fiance, then at you, then back to your fiance still shocked... before scowling at your fiance and turned without saying anything. Although you swore he made a noise like a hiss almost. You both watched as he just left. Walking away rather quickly down the road from your home. When he was completely out of sight, your fiance closed the door before turning to you completely confused and concerned.
"Are you alright?" You nodded. "That's good. Who was that?"
You shrugged. "I honestly have no idea."
"What did he want?"
"Me?"
His brows shot up. "What?!"
"Well...He didn't say me exactly. He said he wanted 'You'..But maybe he meant Yuu. The name and just mistook our house for someone else's?"
His brows furrowed further with a hum. "Sure. Maybe...From now on look out the window before you open the door. If it's that guy again just pretend you're not home."
"I'm sure he's just lost. With how embarrassed you made him, he probably won't be back."
He did come back.
The next week when your fiance was at work. You were sewing together a blanket when you heard a knock at the door. Assuming it was a neighbor, you didn't hesitate to approach the door but at the last second paused remembering your fiance's warning. At the last second you decided to look out the window and was shocked to find the stranger there again. He stared intently at your door before knocking again louder. Deciding to take your partner's advice, you backed away from the door and went back to your blanket.
However he longer you ignored him the louder and more frequent the knocks came. To the point you were starting to get scared with how much he was demanding someone to answer. You ended up locking yourself in the bathroom to hide until the knocking stopped. Your fiance came home a little bit later and was FURIOUS when he found your scared form trembling in the kitchen and you told him what happened. So the next day he stayed home pretending to leave for work. Going out the front door and down the road but rounded around and snuck inside through the back door. There you both waited. You were REALLY hoping that he wouldn't come back. That he finally got the hint.
However a knock on your door broke that hope.
With a heavy heart, you peeked out the window again and to your horror saw the same man. He stood there however he had a flower in his hands. You froze as those strange eyes snapped over to you, and stared in awe intently at your face. You only ducked back behind the curtains just as your fiance threw open the door anger in his eyes.
"What the hell do you think you're doing here?!," he bellowed out.
"...Oh. it's you." You heard the stranger's voice but couldn't see his exchange behind the door.
"What do you think you're doing coming around here harassing my fiance you little creep?!"
"Your fiance? She's MY fiance."
"Yours?! You're insane too! She's never even met you before!"
"Yes she has. The markings on her arm indicate my claim over the female!"
Markings?? You again looked back to your arm and blinked at the markings that were displayed there from the snake. Did he mean the markings that the little snake left on you? No. That's ridiculous. The man was probably just crazy. You jumped as what sounded like a fleshly thud sounded out. Like a very loud punch.
"GET OFF MY PROPERTY AND STAY AWAY FROM MY WOMAN YOU SICK PERVERTED FREAK!! NEXT TIME I'LL SKIN YOU LIKE A PAIR OF SNAKESKIN BOOTS!!"
H H H H I I I I I S S S S S S-!!!
What sounded like a demonic snake's hiss came from behind the door and a second later something went flying back into the house and crashed into the bookshelf with a loud thud. You shrieked out as your fiance's body went flying back hitting the book shelf before crumbling to the floor in a heap. Books fell in clusters off the shelf and piled onto him like a mocking blanket. Your hands covered your mouth but before you could run to him, something came through the door.
The door pushed further open as the head of the stranger came through the doorway only to rise up higher than before. You looked on in horror as his body was hoisted up high to the ceiling by the long tail of a pure white snake before his head slowly turned to you.
And you screamed.

Fangs and I have lived together for about a month now, and in that month I’ve managed to hide the fact that I fucking hate my body. No one knew and I was too worried about being judged to tell anyone. I knew deep down that Fangs would never judge me, I mean we’ve been dating for three years now, but the voices always win in the end. So that’s why I spend a lot of time in the bathroom whenever Fangs goes out without me.
“I’ll be back in a bit, babe!” Fangs called. He was going out with Pea for a job with the Serpents.
“Okay! Be careful!” I called back. Ironic I’m telling him to be careful when I sit at home and throw everything up.
“I will, love you!” He said.
“Love you too!” I said and heard the door close behind him. I waited a bit to make sure Fangs wouldn’t walk back in because he forgot something. The last time that happened I pretended to shower so he wouldn’t hear me. Once I was sure he wouldn’t come back I got off our bed and walked into the bathroom. I pulled out the scale and took a deep breath before I stepped on it. I closed my eyes and tried my best not to shake. I took another calming breath and slowly peeled my eyes open to look at the horrid number. 130 pounds… I sighed, at least I lost two pounds since yesterday. I didn’t really eat anything yesterday. Or the day before. Or the day before that. In fact, I couldn’t really remember the last time I ate a proper meal in which I didn’t throw up a few hours later while Fangs was asleep. It was probably a year ago? Someone at school made a comment about me that I brushed off in the moment, but it was like a silent switch flipped in my brain. After that, I went home and stared at the mirror, noticing all the imperfections about myself. That was the day I decided to lose weight. When normal methods weren’t working, I turned to the extreme. It was the only thing that gave me results… It didn’t help that I started comparing myself to people Fangs talked to. The girls were way prettier than I am. The boys were skinnier than me. I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that Fangs chose me out of everyone. I couldn’t think of any reasons that Fangs stayed with me all this time, or even why he asked me to move in with him after my trailer burnt down. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so happy with Fangs, but something in my head just isn’t on the same page as my heart.
I sighed and looked down at the number once again. 130 pounds. It was below the average weight of my age group, but 120 or even 110 would be way better. I stepped off the scale and looked at myself in the mirror.
Look at your thighs, they’re so fat. Don’t forget that huge stomach of yours. Did you see that girl he was talking to at the bar last week? Now she was perfectly skinny. The perfect body.
I sighed and ran my fingers over my body. Fat. That was all I could feel. I was fucking fat. No matter how little I eat, or how much I worked out. I will always be fat. Fat and fucking ugly. I would never be perfect like those people Fangs talk to. I took off my clothes and looked in the mirror again. I stared at my stomach. Even though the scale says I got smaller, to me it looks like my stomach has grown another twenty pounds. My stomach growled as I lightly touched it. I hated the hunger pains, but the feeling of emptiness was too addictive. I love feeling like I finally was in control of my body. I moved my hands down to my thighs and felt the small scars that were slightly raised. When I first started that’s how I would punish myself when the workouts didn’t work, or if I gained another pound or two. That didn’t last long since Toni found out and told Fangs. I wasn’t too attached to the cutting, so that was easy to stop. The sharp pain as the razor glided through my skin, pulling beads of crimson up through the cut, wasn’t as good as the starving. It didn’t make me feel better like not eating. I shook my head and glanced over at the toilet. I’ve become very acquainted with it. My head was shoved inside it at least twice a day. Sure my stomach was empty, but I knew I could still get some stuff out of me. I kneeled down and gently lifted the lid. I stared down into the toilet and took a few breaths. Throwing up on an empty stomach always hurt, but it was worth it to lose those few pounds. I opened my mouth and took my pointer finger into my mouth. I slowly pushed it to the back of my throat and gagged once I found the spot. I was good at not pulling my finger out when I gagged now, so I just kept pushing on it. My stomach was screaming in pain as it tightened with each gag. It took a few minutes, but eventually, I felt the burning creep up my throat. I pulled my finger out and leaned over the toilet. I watched as the bile flew into the water and already felt a little lighter. It wasn’t much, but every little bit helps. I took a few breaths to recover and quickly pushed my finger back inside my mouth. Once again it took a bit, but I eventually threw up more bile. It still wasn’t enough though. I kept going and going until my head started to spin. I felt really dizzy and weak, but it was working. I felt lighter. I kept going until black dots invaded my vision. I fell back on my ass and held my head.
“J-Jus-st a b-bi-it mo-ore…” I slurred to myself. I tried to get back up so I could finish, but I just fell to the floor more and my vision turned completely black…
*Fangs POV*
I walked back into the trailer with a smile as I carried some Pop’s for me and Y/N. I placed the bags and drinks on the coffee table and noticed Y/N wasn’t there. Must be in our room with her laptop or something.
“Babe, I’m back! I brought Pop’s.” I called but got no answer.
“Baby?” I called again, thinking she couldn’t hear me. Still nothing.
“Y/N, you asleep or something?” I said as I walked towards our bedroom. She wasn’t there. I furrowed my brows and wondered if maybe she went out with Toni or something. I pulled out my phone and called her. I heard her phone ring and followed it to the bathroom. I quickly hung up and walked over to the bathroom. The shower wasn’t running so she should have heard me.
“Y/N? Baby? You in there?” I asked as I gently knocked. No answer. My heart started pounding faster and I quickly opened the door. I stopped in shock as I stared inside the bathroom. Y/N was lying on the floor, looking unnaturally skinny and there was vomit in the toilet. I quickly rushed over to her and checked her pulse. The small thump from her neck made me sigh in relief. I carefully pushed my hands under her and lifted her up. I gasped when I felt how light she was. How did I not notice how much weight she lost? How did I not notice how her bones were starting to be visible through her skin. I shuddered and felt tears pushing themselves to the surface. How the hell could I be such a shitty boyfriend and not realize the love of my life was putting herself in so much danger. I carefully made my way to our room and gently laid her down. I grabbed one of my shirts and carefully put it on her, she was drowning in it. I tucked her in so she wouldn’t get cold and checked that she was breathing again. I sighed and left to deal with the bathroom. Once I was done cleaning I grabbed her some water and placed it on the nightstand. I pulled up a chair and sat next to her. I stoked her hair and tried my hardest to think of what could have made her do this, or even when she started. I blamed myself for not seeing anything different. I believed every smile Y/N always put on. Every laugh she made. How the hell did I not see anything!? I tried to calm myself down, but I was so angry with myself. Maybe even a very small part of me was mad at her for not coming to me, but I pushed that away. I shouldn’t be mad at her, she needs me more than ever. I grabbed my phone and decided to call Toni and see if she knew anything about this.
“Hey Fangs, what’s up?” She answered after the second ring.
“Did you notice anything off about Y/N lately?” I asked, getting right to the point.
“Uh, no? Why? What’s up?” She asked, worry clear in her voice.
“I came home and she was passed out in the bathroom with vomit in the toilet. She’s really fucking skinny Toni…” I said, feeling a tear involuntarily fall down my cheek.
“What? How skinny?” She asked.
“Like I can see her ribs starting to poke out.” I answered and she gasped.
“W-What? H-How?” She asked and I sighed.
“I don’t know, T. I didn’t notice anything different…” I said quietly.
“How? Have you guys not… ya know?” She asked and my eyes widened.
“We’ve both been busy, but every time she’s just wanted to ya know, please me…” I said and felt my stomach turn slightly. She’s been hiding this for so long…
“Shit Fangs, are you at the hospital? Want me and Pea to come by?” She asked and I shook my head.
“I just have my bike and I-I don’t know what the hell they’ll do to her. I’m scared to take her there. What if they say she’s dying, or they lock her up, or I don’t know…” I sighed.
“Fangs if she’s really bad you’ve gotta take her to the hospital, they’ll help her.” She said, gently.
“Toni I can’t, what if she never forgives me for that? Clearly, she’s been hiding this for a while I don’t want her to hate me…” I said, fully crying by now.
“Listen, Fangs, you wanna help her, right?” She asked with a sigh.
“Yes…” I whispered.
“Then you gotta take her. I’ll call Pea and we can use his truck, okay?” She asked and I shook my head again.
“Can’t I just wait till she wakes up? They’re gonna keep her there for who knows how long.” I said and she sighed.
“I don’t think you should wait. What if this isn’t the first time she’s passed out?” She asked and my eyes widened. I didn’t think about that.
“J-Just let me wait till she wakes up first. Let me talk to her.” I begged and she sighed.
“Fine, but you call me after, you got it?” She asked.
“I promise.” I said and she sighed again.
“I’m still calling Pea and letting him know what’s going on.” She said and I sighed.
“Fine, just keep him from barging in, I don’t wanna scare her.” I said and she agreed. We said our goodbyes and hung up.
I sat there in silence as I just stared at Y/N. I couldn’t stop thinking about how awful I am for not noticing anything. She hid it really well, which hurt. I had stopped crying but didn’t bother wiping my face. I just held her hand and stared at her. That’s when she started shifting. She slowly opened her Y/E/C and looked around for a moment before they landed on my dark brown ones. Neither of us moved or made a sound, just stared at the other.
“I’m sorry…” She mumbled after a moment. She looked down and a tear rolled down her cheek.
“Never. I mean never, do that again.” I choked out as my tears returned. Y/N looked up silently and reached up with her other hand to wipe away my tears.
“You shouldn’t cry over me, I’m not worth it…” She whispered as she continued to caress my cheek. I felt the anger return and pulled back from her.
“No Y/N! Don’t you ever think that! You’re more than worth it, you’re my perfect girl. I don’t understand why you even thought you needed to lose weight in the first place, but you’ve always been perfect! You’re beautiful, funny, caring, and amazing! I love you, I always have. I can’t stand seeing you do this to yourself when you don’t need to. I saw what was in the toilet, when was the last time you ate?” I asked and she had more tears falling down her gorgeous face.
“I-I don’t know. Yesterday at lunch? I don’t know. I-I…” She started crying harder. I pulled her in for a gentle hug and stroked her hair.
“How long have you been doing this babe?” I whispered.
“A-A ye-year…” She answered between sobs. My heart broke and I sighed. I held her for a bit longer and gently pulled her back once she calmed down a bit.
“Baby, you need to eat and actually keep it down. You need to get better, Y/N. Please.” I said and she shook her head.
“I-I can’t! Looking at all those people that you talk to, they’re so much prettier than me! They’re skinnier, hotter, cooler, everything! Those people at school made me realize that I’m never going to be like them. I’m never going to be good enough for you…” She said, sobbing into her hands. My eyes widened as I stared at her. Who the fuck said that to her? She’s always been perfect, my everything… I gently pulled her hands away and tried to catch her eyes, but she avoided me.
“Y/N, look at me, please?” I asked quietly. She looked up and she looked so broken.
“Y/N Y/L/N, I love you more than anything. I always have and I always will. No one in this damn world could ever compare to you, baby. You’ve always been my number one and I have never even thought of another person. Guy or girl. You don’t need to change yourself just because some jealous bitch said something to you. I will always love you no matter what.” I said and she sobbed.
“Do you mean it?” She asked in a broken whisper.
“Every word baby. I promise you that I love you with every piece of my heart. I just want you to get better right now. You passed out Y/N, do you know how scared I was?” I asked quietly.
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…” She cried and I pulled her into my chest.
“Shhh, it’s okay baby. You don’t have to be sorry okay? We’re gonna get you some help and get you better, okay?” I asked and she nodded.
“Now, I gotta call Toni and tell her you woke up before she and Pea come breaking down the door.” I said and her eyes widened.
“Y-You told Toni and Pea?” She asked with more tears falling.
“I called to see if Toni noticed anything with you, I was so worried Y/N.” I said, caressing her cheek and wiping the tears. She closed her eyes and leaned into my touch.
“Toni wanted me to take you to the hospital and I know I should have, but I just didn’t want to lose you.” I admitted and she looked up at me.
“I’m so sorry, Fangs…” She said and I shook my head.
“You don’t need to be sorry, baby.” I said and kissed her forehead.
“Now let me call Toni and maybe I can convince her to not take you to the hospital, but you have to eat a bit of the Pop’s I brought home, deal?” I asked and she nodded while taking a shaky breath.
“I’m not gonna make you eat all of it, but you need to eat at least a little okay? We’ll work on this slowly.” I said and she nodded.
“O-Okay…” She whispered. I smiled and kissed her head once more before I went to get the food. When I walked back in she was fiddling with her hands. She looked up and I saw her sniff the air subtly. Her stomach growled and I smiled slightly. I walked over and placed the food on her lap, but left the milkshake in the other room. It would be way too heavy for her right now, even if she did love them.
“I got your favorite, but I think we’re gonna skip the milkshake today and just stick with water, alright?” I asked and she nodded. Her shaky hands took out the burger and fries and gently laid them on the blanket.
“Alright, I’m gonna sit right here and call Toni and you’re gonna start eating, okay?” I asked and she nodded. I pulled out my phone and called Toni as I watched Y/N slowly start to eat the cold fries. I watched as she put the first one in her mouth and she moaned slightly. I smiled as she continued eating them.
“Fangs! Is she awake?” Toni answered.
“Yeah, she’s awake.” I answered and I heard her sigh.
“Perfect, I’m with Pea and Juggie right now and we have the truck so we’ll be over in a few and we can take her to the hospital.” She said as I heard movement from her side.
“I don’t think we’re gonna need to take her to the hospital.” I said as I watched her pick up the burger. She took a bite and her eyes rolled to the back of her head. I chuckled and smiled at her.
“Fangs she passed out, she needs to go to the fucking hospital.” Toni said, slightly annoyed.
“I think we can deal with this ourselves, T.” I said and she groaned.
“Seriously? You agreed to take her to the hospital when she woke up.” She said and I sighed.
“Just come over and see, I promise we got this.” I said and she sighed.
“Fine, we’re already on our way.” She said and hung up. I hung up and saw Y/N was halfway done with the burger.
“Slow down babe.” I said with a small chuckle. She blushed and looked over at me.
“Sorry…” She mumbled and I smiled at her.
“Don’t be, I know you’re hungry, but like I said we gotta take it slow.” I said and she nodded.
A few minutes later, our front door was opening. We heard three sets of footsteps coming towards us and Y/N looked scared. I grabbed her hand and gently gave her a reassuring squeeze. The door opened and in walked Toni, Pea, and Jughead. They all looked at Y/N with wide eyes and Toni rushed over to her other side. She pulled her in for a hug, which Y/N returned.
“Are you crazy? Starving yourself or throwing shit up, whichever. How long has this been going on, huh?” Toni asked and Y/N looked down in shame.
“Toni, relax. We already talked about it and look she’s already eating.” I said and grabbed Y/N’s hand again.
“I’m sorry…” Y/N said quietly again.
“Babe I already told you, you don’t need to be sorry.” I said.
“No Fangs is right, sorry Y/N/N, I’m just worried.” Toni said, taking a seat on the bed next to her.
“We all are.” Jones said. She looked up at Pea and Jughead and they each smiled at her.
“Yeah, so who ass do I need to beat for starting this shit?” Pea asked and Toni rolled her eyes. Y/N laughed and I smiled at her.
“If I’m honest I don’t even remember who said something…” She said and blushed slightly.
“I just know it was about a year ago and that’s when I started looking at myself differently. I just hate how I look and constantly compare myself to everyone else and…” She trailed off.
“Wait, that’s when you started cutting, were you doing this too?” Toni asked and Y/N shook her head.
“No, I started after you guys helped with that…” She said with a guilty tone.
“Oh Y/N…” Toni said and pulled her in for another hug.
“I’m so-”
“Nope, don’t you dare apologize.” Toni said, cutting her off.
“Yeah, we’re sorry for not noticing anything.” Jones said and Y/N shook her head.
“I hid it, there was no way you guys could have known. I mean I was wearing clothes that were a bit too big for me so you guys wouldn’t see my weight change.” She said and we all looked at each other. That explains a bit.
“We’ll that’s fucking over, let’s go get you some more food.” Pea said and she shook her head.
“I’m kind of full.” She said and I placed the rest of the food on the nightstand.
“That’s okay, like I said, slow.” I said and she nodded with a small smile.
“Fangs is right, we gotta take this slow, but we’re all here for you and we’re gonna help every step of the way.” Toni said with a smile. Pea and Jones also nodded and Y/N teared up.
“You guys are the best and I’m really so-”
“Stop apologizing Y/N/N, or I’m gonna kick your ass.” Pea said and she laughed a real genuine happy laugh. We all smiled at her and I gently squeezed her hand. This might be a hard and long road ahead, but we would all support her every step. I think she finally realized that she’s amazing and if not we would all be here to remind her.

== Love Notes ==
Hey there lovelies! Happy start to the weekend! I truly hope you've had fun this week in some capacity. There's been something for everyone and hopefully we continue to see some hype coming up in the up coming weeks.
Today I wanted to remind you of something that I know you've heard before, but like anything in this life, repetition helps to solidify things so I'm gonna say some of it again. You don't need to prove to anyone your worth. You don't need to beg for anyone to love you and you certainly don't need to be someone you're not for someone else's sake. We all have demands from outside forces every day-- work, school, etc, and a lot of those demands are things we have to cope with in order to function in and be a part of society. Those demands aren't always in our best interest, but for the most part they're at least somewhat reasonable. However, there are going to be times that others have demands on you that are completely unreasonable. Maybe someone expects you to fall into a pretty little category. Maybe someone expects you to understand them when they aren't being clear. Maybe someone expects you to bend over backwards and change for their benefit, but not provide you with the same courtesy.
Whatever unreasonable demands you're dealing with, I just want to send you a reminder that you are allowed to say no. You are allowed to set up boundaries to help minimise that kind of behavior. You are allowed to just be you, and to continue to shine being you. Nothing is black and white, so it may not be easy, and may not be viable, or safe for some people-- I absolutely get that, and you should always keep your safety and security top of mind. But if you have the wiggle room, and you can set up those boundaries, remember there's nothing wrong with wanting to continue to be you, the way you are and defending that you.
You are wonderful lovelies, and we all have things in life we can improve on, but you being your beautiful, unique, authentic self is a right, and you have every right to protect the parts of you you hold dear. You don't have to prove to anyone that you are worthy of love just being yourself-- because you already ARE worthy of love, and light, and good things.
You don't have to fit into a neat little box to be loved, or valid. You are already both of those things, and sometimes it's hard to see it in ourselves-- so this reminder is from me to you, from the crew, to you, that you are wonderful just the way you are. Rest well and be kind to yourselves lovelies, you deserve it.

At Sea Without a Map pt. 38
"I'm just trying to get home - out of the Sea of Monsters," you explain. "We were told if our ship capsized and we survived, it could bring us underwater to the portals or whatever that can get me home."
A SOUND STRATEGY.
"Thanks!" you reply. "We were looking for a big shark named Lord Ironteeth who could do it, but got lost in the fog and crashed onto your island - err, or rather onto you, I suppose."
APOLOGIES. I TRY TO KEEP OUT OF THE WAY WHEN I NAP, BUT IT'S GOTTEN HARDER WITH AGE.
You nod as if you know what the crocodisle's going through, despite obviously having no frame of reference for this sort of thing. "You don't happen to know a way for me to get home up here on the surface, do you?"
THERE ISN'T ONE. ALL THE KNOTS LIE BELOW. NOTHING THAT CAN'T SWIM DEEP IS ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE SEA OF MONSTERS. I'M SORRY, HUMAN, BUT UNTIL YOU CAN DO THAT, YOU'RE STUCK.
"Shoot," you sigh. "Well, could you maybe help us? You seem big enough to capsize our boat."
IT HAS TO BE REAL PERIL FOR YOU TO GROW FROM IT, HUMAN. AND I DO NOT WANT TO HURT YOU.
"Aw frick," you sigh again. "So it's Viking rules?"
PRETTY MUCH, YES, VIKING RULES.
The crocodisle slowly unfurls its body, knocking your boat loose without sending it spinning, and then calmly swims up so its head is side by side with your ship.
BUT LORD IRONTEETH WILL LIKELY DO IT. HE HAS BEEN MENACED BY HUMANS BEFORE, AND HAS NO GREAT LOVE FOR YOUR KIND. I CAN POINT YOU IN HIS DIRECTION, BUT THE MAELSTROM THAT FOLLOWS HIM IS DANGEROUS. YOU WILL NEED TO KEEP YOUR WITS ABOUT YOU.
"That's be real helpful, thank you!"
NO PROBLEM. ANY FRIEND OF A CHILD OF SYCORAX IS A FRIEND OF MINE.
With imminent peril no longer imminent, you finally register what that phrase means. "Child of Sycorax - you mean Calibani? Is that what she is, a sycorax?"
NO, SYCORAX IS A SERPENT AND A SHIP-BREAKER, A VAST AND CROOKED CREATURE.
The crocodisle's eyes close in pleasant remembrance.
SHE IS A DEAR FRIEND. IT HAS BEEN TOO LONG SINCE LAST I SWAM IN HER WATERS. PERHAPS IT IS PROVIDENCE THAT HER CHILD WOUND UP ON MY SHORE.
Calibani leans out over the rail, her ear-like fins perked up with curiosity. "How do you know I'm her daughter?"
The crocodisle regards her quietly for a moment.
THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF FAMILY RESEMBLANCE, EVEN IF YOU ARE MUCH SMALLER.
You look at Calibani and see her smile grow wide and warm. "I have family," she says quietly. "I have family!"
Seeing her so happy warms your heart, only to send a jolt of anxiety through you as you remember what your goal is. "I'm trying to get home," you repeat to the crocodisle. "But... I don't want to leave this place... to leave her forever. If I go home, is there a way I can return?"
The crocodisle's eyebrow shifts, making it look almost apologetic.
DO YOU KNOW HOW YOU GOT HERE?
"...no."
THEN YOU PROBABLY WON'T BE ABLE TO RETURN ONCE YOU LEAVE.
You heave a great big sigh and look down at the sea, realizing that your hope for the best of both worlds isn't well-founded. "I suppose that makes sense." As you try to think of some way you can compromise, a thought occurs to you. "Have you seen any other humans on the sea? Maybe some who've managed to survive out here?"
NOT MANY THAT LAST. THERE IS ONE GROUP OF HUMANS I'VE HEARD OF. THEY LIVE IN A METAL SPHERE BENEATH THE WAVES, DEEP IN THE DEPTHS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY SHOULD BE AVOIDED, FOR THEY MAKE MUCH MISCHIEF. THEY'RE CALLED THE SPINDLE.
That last word definitely rings a bell, but not one you want to focus on at the moment. "What about islands? Are there any big islands we can find - ones with food, and shelter?"
NOT MANY, AND NONE NEAR. YOU ARE IN THE SEA OF MONSTERS, AFTER ALL. IT IS A PLACE FOR THINGS THAT SWIM FIRST AND FOREMOST.
You nod. "Thanks, you've been really helpful. You're... one of the nicest people I've met out here, honestly."
The crocodisle nods and nudges your boat a bit.
VERY KIND OF YOU TO SAY SO. GO FORWARD IN THIS DIRECTION, AND YOU WILL FIND LORD IRONTEETH. I WISH YOU LUCK, HUMAN, AND YOU AS WELL, CALIBANI, CHILD OF SYCORAX. MAY THE TIDES TURN YOUR WAY.
Then, with a swift yet graceful motion that miraculously does little to churn the ocean in its wake, the massive reptile slides under the skin of the water and dives deep into the depths of the ocean, disappearing from sight and leaving your boat free once more.
Calibani turns to you. "You want to come back?" she asks, her voice quiet yet intense with longing. "To... to see me?"
"Yeah," you admit easily. "You're my friend, Calibani. I want to get home, but... I don't want to lose you to do it."
She stares at you, her eyes wide and slightly watery. "Really?"
As you realize you've stumbled into an intimate discussion, you consult your compass on how to proceed.
(I know we already did a conversation update this week, but if you want to suggest some angles for our sailor to take this talk too, feel free)

~6k, fpreg, pirates, magical pregnancy, birth, fluff, nsfw.
The Jolly Serpents glided through the turquoise waters, its sails full and billowing in the strong sea breeze. The crew bustled about the deck, eyes fixed on the horizon where a lush, green island slowly emerged from the morning mist.
Standing at the bow, Captain Taro gazed eagerly at the approaching island, her heart racing with excitement. Her purple captain’s coat flapped around her, and her captain’s hat sat firmly on her head, as always. The past few months at sea had been long, but every rough wave, every sleepless night, had led them to this moment.
Taro’s hand instinctively moved to her belly, which had grown considerably since they last docked. Her rounded abdomen pressing quite snugly against the fabric of her coat, as she gently patted it, “Well, my little stowaway. We’re nearly there. Your first adventure awaits.”
As if responding to her words, Taro felt a soft but firm nudge that made her smile. She chuckled, rubbing her belly affectionately, “Already excited, are you?’ she teased, ‘I knew you would be.” The baby kicked again, a little stronger this time, and Taro’s smile widened. She couldn’t help but feel a swell of pride and love for the tiny life growing within her. The thought of sharing this adventure with her child, even before they were born, filled her with a sense of fulfillment she had never known.
Just then, her First Mate approached, “Captain.” They greeted, with their usual formality. “First Mate.” Taro greets with a smile. “We’re about an hour away from the island.’ they reported, they then stole a glance at Taro’s belly before going back to her eyes, ‘How are you feeling?”
Taro waved off the concern with a grin, “Never better. I’ve been waiting for this moment for months! And so has my little one, it seems. They’re ready for their first treasure hunt, aren’t you, kid?” She gave her belly another playful pat, eliciting another gentle nudge from within. The First Mate nodded, “Just... take it easy, Captain. We don’t want you overdoing it.”
Captain Taro laughed, “Don’t overdo it? Where’s the fun in that?” she joked. Her First Mate did not find the humor in it however, as their expression hardened slightly, their brows knitting together in a familiar look of concern, “Captain, with all due respect, you need to be careful. You’ve been pushing yourself too hard lately, and I know you’re eager to find this treasure, but you’ve got to think about the baby, too.”
Taro rolled her eyes, letting out a good-natured but exasperated sigh, “Oh, not this again. You’ve been fussing over me like a mother hen since I got properly big and round. I’m fine, and so is the baby. We can handle a little adventure.”
The First Mate shook their head, clearly frustrated but unwilling to back down, “It’s not about being able to handle it, Captain. It’s about being smart. The crew looks up to you, and they want you and the baby to be safe. You can’t just ignore that.”
Taro’s gaze softened slightly as she glanced down at her belly, which seemed impossibly large, “I hear you, First Mate. I really do. And I promise I’ll be careful. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to let life pass me by. This treasure could set us all up for a long time, and I want my child to know the life I’ve lived, the life they’re going to be a part of.”
The First Mate sighed, clearly torn between their respect for Taro and their worry for her well-being, “Alright, Captain. Just... Promise you’ll let us help more. You don’t have to do everything on your own.” Taro smiled, placing a reassuring hand on her First Mate’s shoulder, “I promise. I know I’ve got a good crew to rely on. And that includes you, First Mate.”
First Mate nodded, satisfied for the moment, “Thank you, Captain. I just want you both to be safe.” Captain Taro nodded back, giving her belly a gentle pat, “And we will be. Now, let’s get ready to make landfall. There’s treasure to be found, and I’ve got a good feeling about this one.”
----------------------------
The Jolly Serpents finally dropped anchor just off the island’s pristine shore, and the crew quickly lowered the gangplank on the beach. The excitement on board was palpable, with every sailor eager to set foot on solid ground and begin the hunt for the treasure. But none more so than Captain Taro, as she was the first off the ship. She practically waddled down the gangplank, her heavily pregnant belly leading the way and her boots sinking slightly into the soft sand as she stepped onto the beach.
Her eyes sparkled with anticipation as she took in the sight of the dense jungle beyond, already buzzing with the thrill of adventure, “All right, everyone!” Taro called out, her voice filled with energy, “Let’s get a move on. We’ve got treasure to find, and I don’t want to waste a minute!”
She quickly began organizing a small party for the expedition, “First Mate, you’re with me.’ she said, nodding to her second-in-command, ‘Briggs, Lila, you too. And we’ll need a few others to carry supplies and keep an eye out for any surprises this island might have in store.”
The selected crew members nodded eagerly, gathering their gear and preparing to follow their captain into the jungle. The rest of the crew began unloading supplies from the rowboats, setting up a temporary camp on the beach and keeping watch over the ship.
As the small group prepared to set off, the First Mate stepped forward, a concerned frown on their face, “Captain, are you sure we shouldn’t bring the Doctor with us? Just in case something happens.” Captain Taro turned to face them, shaking her head, “Dr. Nat will be safer on the ship, First Mate. There’s no need to drag them through the jungle for no reason. Besides, I’m fine. The baby’s fine. We don’t need a doctor tagging along to slow us down.”
First Mate’s frown deepened, clearly not convinced, “But Captain, you’re due any day now. Anything could happen out there, and if you-” Taro cut them off with a wave of her hand, her expression firm, “I appreciate your concern, but I’m not about to start treating myself like I’m made of glass. The doctor stays with the rest of the crew on the ship. That’s final.”
Her First Mate opened their mouth to argue further but quickly thought better of it. They knew that look in Taro’s eyes, and when she got that look, there was no changing her mind. With a reluctant sigh, they nodded, “Aye, Captain. If that’s what you want.” Taro nodded firmly before giving them a reassuring smile, “I promise, everything will be fine. We’re just going to have a little look around, find the treasure, and be back before you know it.”
With the matter settled, Captain Taro turned back to her assembled crew, “All right, let’s move out! Keep your eyes sharp and your wits about you. Who knows what we’ll find out there.”
Captain Taro then led her crew into the heart of the jungle, the dense foliage surrounding them on all sides. The sun barely penetrated the canopy above, casting everything in a hazy, green light. Vines hung from the towering trees, and the ground beneath their feet was a tangle of roots and undergrowth.
Two crew members moved ahead of the group, hacking away at the thick foliage with their machetes. Each swing sent leaves and vines flying, clearing a narrow path through the dense jungle. The humid air clung to their skin, and the occasional call of exotic birds echoed through the canopy above. Sweat dripped from their brows, but nobody showed signs of slowing down, driven by the promise of treasure hidden deep within the island.
Taro’s excitement was palpable as she pressed forward, the treasure map clutched in her hand. She glanced down at the map, trying to make sense of the faded markings and sketches. Her swollen belly pressed against her coat, which was beginning to feel like a stifling weight in the oppressive heat. She paused for a moment, pulling her coat open to let in the slightest bit of air. The cool breeze was a welcome relief against her blouse, and she sighed, her free hand resting on the curve of her belly.
“Almost there, little stowaway.’ she murmured to her baby, her fingers gently rubbing at her belly, ‘We’re getting close. I can feel it.”
The path grew narrower, the jungle around them becoming denser with every step. The crew hacked through the underbrush with machetes, clearing the way. The sounds of their progress were accompanied by the noise in the busy jungle, the usual chorus of birds and insects abundant.
As she moved forward, her attention split between the map and the terrain, she suddenly felt a light, almost itchy cramp spread across the underside of her belly. The sensation was unexpected, and she paused, her brow furrowing as she tried to decipher what she was feeling. It wasn’t exactly painful, but it was enough to catch her off guard.
First Mate, ever vigilant, noticed her pause and turned back to look at her, “Everything alright, Captain?” they asked, concern flickering in their eyes. Taro nodded, giving them a reassuring smile, “Just a little twinge. Nothing to worry about. Probably just the baby shifting around.”
The First Mate’s expression didn’t soften much, but they took a deep breath, trying to calm themselves, “Alright, Captain.’ they said, their voice steady but still laced with concern, ‘But please, promise me you’ll tell me if anything changes. We need to know if this is… The real thing.”
Taro gave them a reassuring smile, patting them on the arm, “I promise, First Mate. If these cramps turn into something more, you’ll be the first to know. Now, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. There’s treasure to find, and I’m not about to let a few cramps stop me from doing my job.” First Mate’s lips pressed together to form a thin line, but they nodded, respecting their Captain’s decision.
Taro adjusted her stance, rolling her shoulders and shaking off the lingering discomfort. She had felt plenty of odd sensations over the past few weeks, and she wasn’t about to let a little cramp slow her down now. Not when they were so close to finding the treasure. She took a deep breath, the humid air filling her lungs, and pressed on, moving with a bit more caution but still driven by the thrill of discovery.
As Captain Taro and her crew traveled deeper into the jungle, the cramps became more frequent. At first, she tried to ignore them, chalking it up to the strain of trekking through dense foliage and the oppressive heat. But as the minutes passed, the cramps started to follow a pattern, each one rolling through her belly with a steady, rhythmic persistence.
Her eyes stayed on the map, but mentally she began timing each cramp as it came. They were coming every fifteen minutes now, lasting about thirty seconds each time. It was too consistent to ignore. She realized, she was in labor, and a thrill of excitement shot through her.
A smile tugged at her lips despite the heat and the growing ache in her belly. She had known this day was coming soon, but she hadn’t expected it to happen right in the middle of a treasure hunt. Still, there was something fitting about it, her little stowaway seeming eager to join in on the adventure.
She glanced down at the map again, tracing the faint lines with her finger. According to the map, they were just a short distance away from the treasure’s location. If they could reach it quickly, she could let the crew celebrate and then slip away back to the ship before anyone realized what was happening and not cause a big panic amongst them, which was the last thing she needed.
“Captain, I think we’re almost there.’ Briggs called from up ahead, his voice cutting through the dense air, ‘There’s a clearing just beyond those trees.” Captain Taro nodded, her excitement bubbling up again, “Alright, everyone, let’s keep moving. We’re nearly at the end of the trail.”
The crew picked up the pace, hacking through the last of the thick foliage. Taro followed, her heart pounding with anticipation. As they broke through the trees, a small clearing opened up before them, the jungle suddenly giving way to a sunlit space. In the center of the clearing, partially hidden under vines and leaves, was a large, moss-covered stone that looked almost like a marker.
Taro’s heart leapt in her chest. This was it. They had found the treasure. She could feel it in her bones, “Let’s clear this area.’ she ordered, gesturing for the crew to start working, ‘The treasure should be right beneath us.”
While the crew got to work, Taro took a step back, watching as they began to clear away the foliage and debris. She felt another cramp hit her, this one a bit tighter and more intense than the last. It spread out from her back, radiating around to the front of her belly. She stopped in her tracks, placing a hand on her back and taking a slow, measured breath to steady herself. The sensation was stronger this time, more insistent, and she couldn’t ignore it as easily as the others.
She closed her eyes briefly, taking a slow, measured breath and focusing on the slow release of tension as the cramp gradually faded away. When she opened them again, she found her First Mate standing beside her, their face etched with concern.
“Captain, are you alright?” they asked, their voice low but urgent. Taro waved them off, trying to maintain her usual air of confidence, “I’m fine, really.’ she insisted, ‘Just feeling a few light cramps is all.”
The First Mate’s eyes widened, their face paling slightly, “Cramps?” they repeated, their voice tinged with worry. They seemed ready to launch into a flurry of questions, but before they could say anything more, Taro held up a hand, cutting them off.
“Before you start panicking. They’re irregular.’ she lied smoothly, ‘I’m not even sure if I’m in labor. It’s too early to tell. These could just be... False alarms, you know? But regardless, I think I’m going to head back to the ship ahead of everyone else, just to rest. The heat and humidity are getting to me. I want you here to oversee the crew. You’re the one I trust most to make sure everything goes smoothly.”
The First Mate hesitated, their worry evident in their eyes. They didn’t seem fully convinced by her explanation but nodded nonetheless, “Alright, Captain. But at least take Lila with you as an escort. Just in case.”
Taro opened her mouth to protest, but the First Mate cut her off with a firm shake of their head, “No arguments, Captain. I insist.”
She pouted, and First Mate crossed their arms, giving her their signature disapproving stare. They stared each other down for a solid miniature, before Taro relented, “Fine, fine. I’ll take Lila. But keep things moving here, alright?”
First Mate nodded, though their gaze remained fixed on her with concern. Taro gave them a quick pat on the shoulder before calling Lila over and gesturing for her to follow. Soon, they began to make their way back through the jungle.
----------------------------
Captain Taro and Lila had moved through the jungle as quickly as they could, the dense foliage rustling around them with every hurried step. It also didn’t take long for Lila to notice the way Captain Taro would occasionally pause, her hand going to her belly as she took deep, measured breaths.
“Captain.’ Lila said quietly during one of their brief stops, her voice laced with worry, ‘Are you… Are you in labor? Taro gave her a tight smile, nodding slightly, “Aye, seems like it, but don’t worry.’ she reassured, her tone calm despite the growing discomfort, ‘I’m fine. We just need to get back to the ship quickly, alright?”
Lila looked unconvinced but nodded, knowing better than to argue with the Captain. They continued their trek, quickening their pace as much as the jungle terrain would allow, lucky they had the path her crew had forged earlier to lead the way. Taro’s contractions were growing stronger, each one more insistent than the last, but she kept pressing forward, determined to reach the safety of the ship.
A few more times, Taro had to stop, leaning against a tree as she breathed through another wave of contractions. Each time, Lila stood by her side, placing a gentle hand on Taro’s back. At first, Taro had flinched, not expecting the touch, but then she felt Lila’s hand start to rub slow, soothing circles over her lower back and she found the small counterpressure to be surprisingly comforting, so she welcomed it.
Finally, the dense trees began to thin, and the familiar sound of waves crashing against the shore reached their ears. The sight of the ship anchored off the coast filled Taro with a sense of immense relief. She straightened up, taking one last deep breath, and motioned for Lila to keep moving, “Almost there.” Taro said, as much to herself as to Lila.
The familiar creak of the wood underfoot was a welcomed sensation as Captain Taro and Lila stepped back onto the deck of the Jolly Serpents. The fresh sea breeze was much more cooling than the thick jungle heat, though that did little to ease the growing discomfort in Taro’s belly, but she was glad to be back aboard. Without wasting time, they sought out Dr. Nat, who was below deck tending to some supplies.
“Doctor.’ Taro began, keeping her voice steady despite the contractions making it difficult to focus, ‘I’m in labor.” Dr. Nat looked up and smiled curiously, “Labor? How far apart are the contractions?”
“Um, every six or seven minutes I think? Lasting around forty-five seconds.” Taro says after some thought, Dr. Nat nods, “Yep, sounds like you’re about to leave early labor. Let’s get you to your cabin for some privacy and comfort then.” They say as they immediately moved to Taro’s side, ready to guide her. Taro nodded, appreciating the Doctor’s calm efficiency, “Agreed. Lila, you’re free to go. Thank you for your help.”
Lila nodded, before she suddenly took off, her movements quick and purposeful. Taro furrowed her brow in confusion, wondering what had gotten into Lila, but another contraction began to build, and her focus shifted. She placed a hand on her belly, feeling the tightening, and decided not to worry about Lila’s sudden exit. She had more pressing concerns.
Dr. Nat guided her towards the captain’s cabin, and once inside, she soon found herself in the thick of it now, as the intensity of the labor only seemed to increase in the following two hours.
Taro soon found herself leaning against the desk, the bedpost, the wall. Just anything that was closest to her as she groaned through the pain. Dr. Nat, who was helping her to pace around the room, encouraged her to breathe deeply as they rubbed her back at her request when the contractions hit hard.
She had just leaned against the edge of her bed, breathing heavily through another contraction, when the door swung open with a sudden burst of energy. First Mate stood in the doorway, slightly out of breath and looking more frazzled than Taro had ever seen them, a rarity for sure.
Their eyes locked onto Taro, and a flicker of frustration flashed across their face, “Captain.” First Mate said, their voice tinged with both worry and a hint of exasperation.
“First Mate.” she grunted more than greeted, but still flashing them a smile.
“You promised me you’d tell me if your condition got worse.”
Taro, still catching her breath, could only manage a sheepish grin, “I didn’t think it would happen so quickly. Also you got back sooner than I thought you would. Did you find the treasure?”
First Mate huffed, “Can’t believe you’re thinking about that at a time like this. But yes, we did. I only got back as quickly as I did because Lila came back and told me you were in labor. I left Briggs in charge and ran back to the ship as fast as I could.” Taro blinked in surprise, touched, “You really ran all the way back just for me?”
“Of course I did. You said you wanted me here for the birth. Did you think I’d forget?’ First Mate replied firmly, their voice softening as they stepped closer, ‘I wasn’t going to let you go through this alone.”
A warm flush graces Taro’s cheeks, she hadn’t expected such a heartfelt response, and it filled her with a mixture of embarrassment and affection, “Thank you…’ she said softly, smiling at them, ‘Well, come inside then.” First Mate nodded and entered the cabin, closing the door behind them. They moved to her side, a calming presence amidst the storm of contractions that continued to roll through her body.
Taro felt a renewed sense of courage in knowing that she wasn’t facing this alone. She had her crew, her trusted First Mate, and soon, she’d have her baby in her arms. The thought brought her a sense of peace as she prepared for what was to come.
The next few hours seemed to blur for Captain Taro as her labor somehow intensified further. The contractions growing stronger and closer together, and each one demanding her full focus. She continued to pace around the cabin. But now her First Mate was at her side. Taking over from Dr. Nat in rubbing Taro's back during each contraction, their hands moving in soothing circles as they murmured words of encouragement.
As time passed, Taro leaned into their support more and more, finding comfort in the familiarity of her First Mate's presence. She was grateful for their calm, their steady hands, and the way they knew just what to say to keep her spirits up.
As Taro was crossing the room again, trying to walk off the latest pain, another contraction slammed into her like a rogue wave crashing against the hull of her ship. Taro cried out, unable to hold back the sound, and she instinctively reached out for the nearest thing to steady herself. Her hand found First Mate’s arm, and before she knew it, she was leaning heavily against them, her head buried in their chest as she panted through the mounting pressure.
First Mate blushed slightly, not expecting the sudden contact, but they didn’t hesitate. They wrapped an arm around her, holding her close as their other hand continued to rub soothing circles on her back, “You're doing such a good job, Captain.’ they murmured softly into her ear, trying to keep her calm, ‘Just keep breathing through it."
As the contraction peaked, she felt a strange sensation, a small pop deep inside her, followed by a sudden rush of warmth down her legs. She gasped, pulling back slightly from First Mate to look down, and saw clear liquid trickling onto the cabin floor, “M-My water.” Taro managed to say, her voice a mix of shock and awe.
Dr. Nat, who had been observing closely, stepped forward with a reassuring nod, “That's a good sign, Captain. It means your body is getting ready. You’ll be meeting your baby very soon."
Despite the pain and exhaustion, Taro’s face lit up with a bright, excited smile. She squeezed First Mate's arm with renewed strength and looked them in the eye, “There almost here.” she said, her voice brimming with excitement. First Mate gave her a firm nod, their expression softening with their admiration, “Aye, Captain. Let’s bring that little one into the world."
----------------------------
Minutes seemed to stretch into hours as the steady pressure began to build in her hips. With her waters gone, her little stowaway was moving into position, preparing for their descent. And as each contraction ebbed and flowed through her, Taro could feel the weight of the baby pressing down, feeling heavy in her body.
At this point, Taro was exhausted from pacing, her body hot and drenched in sweat. Finally, she turned to First Mate, her breath coming in short pants, “Can you help me… To the bed?’ she asked, her voice laced with fatigue, ‘And… I need to get out of these clothes.”
First Mate’s cheeks reddened, but they didn’t hesitate, gently guiding her to the bed. Dr. Nat moved to help, and together, they carefully undressed her, removing her captain’s coat, skirt, and blouse. She was soon completely nude, the cool air feeling heavenly against her fevered skin.
Once on the bed, Taro let out a heavy sigh, sitting upright against the bed frame and sinking back against the soft pillows piled up against the headboard. The cool air on her skin was a relief, but she still felt a bit stifled. She looked down at her wooden prosthetic leg, feeling the uncomfortable weight of it.
She looked to her First Mate, “Can you take off my leg?” she asked, her tone more vulnerable than usual. First Mate blinked in surprise. It was rare for Taro to remove her prosthetic, especially in front of others, “Are you sure?” they questioned, their voice gentle.
Taro nodded, “It’s too uncomfortable right now. I want it off.”
First Mate hesitated for only a moment before nodding and kneeling beside her, carefully unstrapping the wooden leg, before setting it to the side nearby. Once it was off, Taro let out a small sigh of relief, feeling a little more at ease.
First Mate then settled into a chair beside her, close enough that Taro could lean against them whenever she needed to. And as the contractions continued, Taro found herself doing just that, as she rested her head on their shoulder, her breath hot and labored against their neck as she panted and groaned.
First Mate wrapped an arm around her, their hand rubbing soothing circles on her back, murmuring soft words of encouragement, “You’re doing great, Captain. Just keep breathing through it. You’re so strong.”
Taro’s grip tightened on their arm as another contraction hit, clamping down like a vice. She groaned, her body tensing as she rode out the wave of pain. When it finally subsided, she was surprised to feel a new sensation. Faint but unmistakable, swelling inside her like a tide beginning to rise. An urge to push. She huffed through the end of the contraction, trying to catch her breath.
When the pain let go, she looked over at Dr. Nat, “I felt like I needed to push on that last one.” she admitted, a small, shaky laugh escaping her lips. Dr. Nat gave her a reassuring smile, “Good. On the next contraction, if you feel the urge again, you can try pushing.”
Taro nodded, her heart pounding as she sat up a bit more and leaned back against her pillows, adjusting her position to brace herself. She glanced over at First Mate, and held out her hand, a small, knowing smile on her lips, “You ready?” she asked, her voice steady despite the pain.
First Mate took her hand, squeezing it gently, their own smile growing increasingly nervous but still trying to look encouraging, “I’m here. You’ve got this.” Taro nodded, her grip tightening as she waited for the next contraction.
As the next contraction built, Captain Taro’s body tensed, her breath hitching as she braced for the peak. She waited, and when it felt right, she gave a small, experimental push. Even with that light effort, she immediately felt her baby move down a little, a sensation that was both strange, but exhilarating.
Taro released her push, a laugh bubbling up in her chest, “I felt it move!” she exclaimed, her eyes bright with excitement. Dr. Nat smiled at her, nodding approvingly, “Just keep doing what you’re doing. Push when you feel like you can.”
Taro glanced over at First Mate, who now looked so nervous, they looked like they were on the verge of fainting, their face pale and eyes wide. It was a rare sight to see them so uncomposed, and Taro couldn’t help but laugh again, despite the intensity of the moment, “Don’t pass out on me now, First Mate.” she teased, her voice light despite the strain.
First Mate swallowed hard, their grip on her hand tightening, “I-I won’t.’ they stammered, trying to regain their composure, ‘You’ve got this, Captain.” Taro gave their hand a reassuring squeeze, appreciating their presence more than she could express. She then took a deep breath, focusing back on the task at hand.
As the next contraction rolled in, she felt the familiar pressure building and began to push again, harder this time. She could feel her baby moving down with her effort, the sensation spurring her on.
She soon found herself falling into a rhythm, pushing with the contractions, then relaxing and catching her breath in the short moments of rest in between. The pain was intense, but pushing felt good as she worked alongside her body to bring this baby down.
“Good, Captain.’ Dr. Nat said gently after one particularly strong push, ‘Just like that. You’re doing great.”
Taro nodded, sweat dripping down her face, her hair sticking to her skin. She could feel her strength waning a bit, breaths ragged, and her muscles aching. But there was a fire burning within her as she refused to let herself falter.
As the next contraction gripped her, Taro bore down hard, a growl building in her throat as she felt a shift from within. There was a lot of pressure now, all of it going down, as she found herself opening her legs up a little wider, as if to give her baby more room.
She let go of her push to catch her breath, but this latest contraction didn’t seem to relent, so she took another big gulp of air and pushed again. Curling forward a bit and trying to work with all that building pressure, pressure, pressure.
Suddenly she felt a sudden, sharp burning sensation and gasped, her eyes widening in surprise. Dr. Nat’s calm voice reached her ears, cutting through the intensity of the moment, “The head is starting to peek through, Captain. You’re doing a great job. Would you like to feel?”
Taro, her heart pounding, nodded. She reached a trembling hand down between her legs and was met with a small, teardrop-shaped opening. Her fingers then brushed against the little bit of soft hair that was peeking through, and her breath caught in her throat. That was her baby. They were almost here.
Leaning back again, Taro gritted her teeth and doubled her efforts, growling again and bearing down with all her might. The opening widened gradually with each push, revealing more of the baby’s head. She could feel the burn intensify, but she welcomed it, knowing it meant she was getting closer.
Beside her, her First Mate’s face lit up with excitement. They leaned closer, squeezing her hand tightly and encouraging her with every word, “That’s it Captain! Keep going! You’re almost there!”
As the burning sensation reached its peak, she let out a loud grunt of pain and effort, her body trembling with the strain as she let go of the push and leaned back, moaning a little at the intense burn, “The head is fully crowning.” Dr. Nat announced, their voice steady. With a mix of disbelief and joy, Taro reached down again, her fingers touching the crown of her baby’s head.
She felt more of the soft, wet hair, and she couldn’t help but start to cry tears of relief, happiness, and pure love. That was her baby’s head sitting there between her legs. It almost didn’t feel real. She looked at First Mate, and without a word, she took their hand before gently guiding it down to feel the baby too.
First Mate’s eyes widened, and as they touched the tiny head, they also began to cry. Overwhelmed by the moment and moved by both Taro’s and their own tears, First Mate leaned forward and pressed a tender kiss to Taro’s forehead, “You’re doing so good Taro.” they whispered tenderly, voice shaking with emotion as they looked at her.
Taro, still caught in the emotional whirlwind, didn’t fully register the kiss. But she had felt the warmth of First Mate’s words, so she glanced up at them. Her usually neat bun was a mess, her face flushed a bright red from effort and she was both wet with tears and sweat, but she gave them the widest, most excited grin.
Then the next contraction started to build, and Taro refocused her efforts as she bore down again. She could feel the baby’s head moving, and after two long, hard pushes, she felt the baby’s head pop out fully. A cry of relief and excitement escaped her lips, her body sagging momentarily as the intense pressure eased.
As she took a few deep breaths to recover, Dr. Nat’s voice broke through the haze, calm but firm, “Taro, I need you to breathe and push lightly. Let’s ease the baby out.”
Taro exhaled slowly but nodded as she gave short, gentle pushes. She felt one shoulder slip free, then the next, and with one final, careful shove, the baby’s body slid out completely. A small cry of relief and joy burst from her as the tension and pressure disappeared, leaving her in a state of euphoria.
Dr. Nat caught the baby, their experienced hands quickly rubbing the tiny body with a cloth to clean and stimulate the newborn. Taro, her heart pounding with anticipation, reached out immediately, her arms aching to hold her child. Dr. Nat smiled and placed the baby across Taro’s chest.
As the doctor continued to rub the baby’s back, a sharp, strong cry filled the room. Taro’s heart swelled, her eyes flooding with tears as she gazed down at her newborn, “Hello, my little stowaway.” she says her voice thick with emotion.
Dr. Nat, still smiling, glanced up at Taro, “It’s a girl.”
Taro looked down at her daughter, tears spilling over as she gently cradled the tiny, squirming body, “She’s beautiful.” she whispered.

Taro rested in her bed, her newborn daughter nestled against her chest and her eyes closed as she savored this moment of calm. She then heard the door creak and Taro’s eyes fluttered open as her First Mate entered, “I told everyone the news. The crew sends their congratulations.” Taro smiled warmly, “Thank you. Come sit with me.”
First Mate moved to the bedside, sitting down carefully as if afraid to disturb the serenity of the moment. Taro shifted slightly, revealing the baby’s tiny face and the now clearly rainbow-colored hair, something that hadn’t been as noticeable before when their hair was still damp.
“Her hair…’ First Mate breathed in awe, leaning in for a closer look, ‘Is that because of…?” Taro shrugged lightly, “Could be the pendant’s doing. Or maybe she’s just that special. I mean, she is my kid after all.” She joked a little bit.
First Mate smiled and rolled their eyes a little, but was still awed by the sight, “Have you decided on a name?” Taro nodded, a soft smile playing on her lips, “Iris.”
“That’s a perfect name.”
Taro gazed at her daughter, then looked back at her First Mate, her expression turning serious but affectionate, “I couldn’t have done it without you. You were there when I needed you most.” First Mate’s face softened, and they reached out to gently squeeze Taro’s hand, “I’m just happy I could be here for you, Captain.”
Taro’s lips then quirked into a teasing smile, “And about that kiss…”
First Mate’s face flushed a deep red, their usual composure slipping away once again as they stammered, “I-I got caught up in the moment.” Taro chuckled softly, “I was just teasing, but we’ll talk about that later, okay? About what it means.”
First Mate nodded, still blushing but managing a smile, “Alright, Taro.”
Taro’s attention then returned to her baby, marveling at the tiny, perfect being in her arms. In that quiet moment, with her daughter safe in her arms and her closest companion by her side, Taro felt a profound sense of peace. As she held Iris close, Taro kissed Iris’s forehead and smiled, silently thanking the pendant, knowing that whatever magic it held had brought her the greatest treasure of all.
