"Ugh..." Izuku groaned as he started to come to, nearly blinded by the bright fluorescent lights he was greeted by as soon as he tried to open his eyes. He wanted to cover his eyes, but the second he even thought about moving, he noticed how much his arms hurt. How much everything hurt, actually. What happened...? The last thing he remembered, the League was going through with their attack on a city, and then... Did he get caught in the crossfire... ? He couldn't remember right now, honestly. More importantly, where had he ended up?

The sight he was greeted with when he finally managed to open his eyes would've been a somewhat of a relief to most, but to him? It was terrifying.

There was no doubt about it - he was in the hospital. His heart was already beginning to pound at the realization, mind already racing to try and figure out how to get out of this situation. Even with his quirk, would he be able to make it out of here, with his injuries? If anyone here found out his identity, then -- His train of thought was brought to a screeching halt when he heard someone enter the room, turning his head to see... Someone far from a regular nurse or doctor. In fact, she looked more like... A hero...? Oh. Oh no.

He sits up a bit, the panic in his eyes clear despite his best attempts to hide it. "Where - where am I? Why am I here? How... How long do I have to stay-?" The questions spill out before he can stop himself, hands already beginning to tremble slightly.

After everything Izuku had been through, getting used to 'normal' school life again was... Rough, to say the least. Paranoia, skipping class, lack of motivation, panic attacks... Functioning as a hero-in-training seemed near impossible like this - so of course, it was no surprise when it was decided that he should start attending group therapy sessions. It would help him adjust, supposedly, though he couldn't help thinking it was just to make sure that villain ideology hadn't gone to his head... Still, despite his suspicions, he agreed to attend the meetings ( mostly to ease his mother's mind, honestly ).

The first few meetings were... Awkward, to say the least. He didn't feel much like talking, despite the counselor's claims that the few other students here had been through similar experiences, and it seemed like he wasn't the only one hesitant to open up. The blonde of the group ( Rain, was it? ) hardly said a word herself, aside from a brief introduction. From what Izuku had overheard, though, it really did seem like they had a bit in common when it came to their pasts... Maybe talking to her wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Approaching the girl after this weeks meeting went as gracefully as any of Izuku's first attempts at conversation could go - which is to say... "H-hey, um - Rain, right? Uh… Well, since we’ve got lunch after this I thought maybe we could… sit together or something? I-I mean, only if you want to, of course! I wouldn’t want to impose…” It wasn’t graceful at all. But hey, at least he was trying, right?

Overview of some topics when it comes to drawing characters who are burn survivors.

DISCLAIMER. Please keep in mind that this is an introductory overview for drawing some burn scars and has a lot of generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People. I'm calling this introductory because I hope to get people to actually do their own research before drawing disabled & visibly different characters rather than just making stuff up. Think of it as a starting point and take it with a grain of salt (especially if you have a very different art style from mine).

Talking about research and learning... don't make your burn survivor characters evil. Burn survivors are normal people and don't deserve to be constantly portrayed in such a way.

second way more important edit: How are people seeing this post where I specifically talk about burn survivors being normal, real people, and still tag this as "TW body horror"? Not a single one of these drawings or pictures is a fresh injury. All of them are healed. How the hell would you feel if someone tagged a photo of you as "trigger warning: gore"?

Disabled people are not your fucking body horror. Grow up.
