patch 5 threw an entire comic idea at me so i don't think i will have anything new to offer this month, except the 8fanarts im slowly drawing and wips of this comic about vampire lord and karlach (a ship i don't even know its name😂but they have a special place in my heart :3

So I'm a fan of the whole spawn Astarion can eventually learn to turn into a bat (who can resist Batstarion?)

But I cannot imagine he's good at it, at first. Like, the first time he tries he doesn't know how to magically bind his clothing to him, and we just have a tiny, confused, and slightly angry Batstarion in his pile of clothing.

And even when he figures out how to transform and keep his clothing, there still is a period of time where when he transforms back it's not in his clothes- those just end up flung about and poor naked Astarion is stumbling around trying to get his footing.

I imagine there are a lot of times he ends up transforming before he's landed, his clothing goes flying, and he ends up naked sprawled on his partner. Possibly in front of others.

It had been a simple task, just a few swipes with his blade and the bear dropped like a house of bricks. Strange though with how enraged it had been. Maybe it had gone rabid or sick in some way.

He turned to face the pale haired elf and looked to him with concern. "Are you injured? We need to leave before other creatures are drawn to the area." They've attracted too much attention in these dark woods from the attack and now the dead bear will certainly draw hungry beasts with the scent of it's freshly spilt blood.

do you think that considering astarion is a walking corpse, a vampire spawn destined to live in the shadows (even if he finds a way around the sunlight sensitivity), someone with insatiable hunger for blood and two centuries of brutal trauma, someone whose place in the society according to most norms is to be skewered by a monster hunter... is there a part of him, somewhere deep down that craves normalcy? i don't think that's his stance on this on most days, as he strikes me as someone who doesn't particularly mind being a vampire and tends to deal with whatever uncomfortable and painful thoughts he has by deflecting and repressing that shit, telling himself he's above it. voicing out loud how utterly dull his life would be if he was still just a high elf, a magistrate in the city, with some pretty husband or wife, a marriage likely arranged to advance his status. scoffing at the idea of a house full of children, little elflings with silver hair. and, ah, he would be mortal. but..

i can't help but wonder if he'd have moments where he'd find himself thinking about it. thinking about the life he lost. about astarion without the scars on his back. the one who enjoys bouillabaisse and a variety of expensive wines instead of blood in whatever form he can get. the man that has a home, a place to return to, a comfy bed, and above all.. astarion who has a family. who would be distraught if something happened to him. who would go out of their way to find him... where was his family when cazador took him? was he truly so utterly alone even before??

and that would sever the thread of his thought, pain and anger replacing it like a hot wave. he was stupid to even think about it. of course, he's better off now, as a vampire spawn, an immortal. he doesn't have whatever responsibilities that would weigh the pretty, breathing magistrate astarion down. he's better off drenched in blood, out on numerous adventures than whatever boring affair a simple life in the city would give him... of course!!

Despite the simmering frustration brewing within Caleb towards his fellow companions on this particular evening, he still found it in himself to agree to conjure the tower for those who desired it. In truth, it may have been more for his own sake than anyone else's, as he preferred the spaciousness and privacy of his tower over the cramped and dingy campgrounds or a small, spare room in a tavern in Baldur's Gate.

The wizard’s usually level-headed demeanor replaced by a recent air of stress, his mind consumed by the ticking time clock represented by the tadpoles in their heads. And to add to the pressure, he was once again faced with seeing Astrid and Eadwulf again. And as time progressed, Caleb's frustration reached a boiling point as most of their group dismissed the idea of taking on Cazador as a priority.

He craved solitude, just a few blessed hours to collect his thoughts and regain some semblance of sanity. The weight of recent events was bearing down on him, threatening to crush his already fragile mental state. After a while, with his head properly back upon his shoulders, it was time to pay a visit to the one person with more of a right to be frustrated than him—Astarion.

A quick stride brought him down the hall to Astarion's room, its dark wooden door only a few steps away. He paused for a moment before knocking softly, teeth sinking into his lower lip as he waited for a response.

Okay but... how much blood does a D&D vampire need every day, simply "once a day" is not greatly helpful in and of itself! Am I looking at, like... a city of 50k people to support 5k vampires sustainably where they only need a very small amount, or one of 500k going off real world blood donation amounts, or like 5 million if it's an entire person's worth of blood daily ffs, did anyone actually think through the logistics of this when they put it in the game?

I'm not actually convinced the Underdark has that many people living in it, if it's the latter. I'm not even convinced the entirety of the Sword Coast does! How the hells was Cazador feeding all these vampires enough to keep them alive for so long in the centuries leading up to the Rite?!

Verse I'm currently working on plus a lot of thoughts:

*drum roll* ....... SHARRAN LORROAKAN.

Hear me out. We know he wants to be powerful and immortal, he is morally flexible as a rubber band and I HC that he is pissed at Mystra for leaving him on read. And he is pissed at Selûne bc her daugther bane'd him haha The perfect storm. BUT, I can't emphasize enough that Lorroakan values his independence above all else, and I'll stand by that!!!11! The way he is sooo insistent to capture Aylin (*clears throat*, pardon me, DAME Aylin!), despite being a wizard who likely knows a thing or two about pacts, potions, and other methods of achieving immortality, really says something imo (Well, there's THAT, and Lorroakan simply thinks it's the easiest route to immortality, I guess. HE isn't the one putting himself at risk to find Aylin; he just pours a ridiculous amount of gold into it... The wand, the information itself, printing 3708900 pamphlets,...) Anywayyy, With all those other alternatives such as potions and pacts, there are trade-offs. Strings attached, contracts, and side effects that Lorroakan just doesn't want to deal with unless it's absolutely necessary; like when he's dead or dying (HELLO, PLOT-HOOK??). So he won't casually call upon Shar or any deity.

I still think this concept could work in so many ways!

ONE, Lorroakan sits on a treasure trove of artifacts and books Ramazith left behind, and who's to say he doesn't stumble over a tome about the Shadow Weave, or some kind of Sharran artifact?? To quote Rolan, "Lorroakan barely knew his alphabet"' — so it's not unlikely he'll just pick up a random book or smth without knowing what it is, and end up with a Shadow Curse, or otherwise corrupted by Shar. (side eyes @shadovan)

TWO, Alright, but what if Lorroakan doesn't end up on the Sharran path by accident? Lorri is clever. You can't convince me otherwise. He knows getting into the Shadow Weave is dangerous as FUCK, and he won't touch it unless he finds a way to interact with it without drawing Shar's attention. (shout-out to @deaddoveadventures 's Raistlin who is currently Lorroakan's partner in crime doing exactly that, lmao).

Spoiler alert, it probably won't work.

THREE, ALSO the daughter of SELÛNE bane'd him!!!?? I've been entertaining the thought of giving Lorroakan a post-Aylin Wight verse.

(That "someone" being Shar). I mean, come OOOON, this has written Lorroakan all over it, but it'd work just as well without Lorroakan returning as a Wight. Shar can just miracle him back to life, I suppose.
