This universe. At first that had been much more unsettling, and surely even now could throw one for a loop... but it's also become comforting in the strangest way. Something he finds a little too easy to lean into, even with how foreign and DANGEROUS it all proves to be nonetheless.]

*[Which is why he shouldn't be here. They both know that. And when he is, when here they are in the same room, Alizarin figures straight away that something is either very odd... or very wrong. *[Phthalo sighs. He earnestly does HATE that nickname deep down, and how every overly familiar face has taken to calling him that. A joke they all feel entitled to be in on. Still, that sigh is long suffering and dramatic. He scoffs in what appears to be annoyance... before a long beat of silence passes, and the both of them start genuinely chuckling. He crosses the room to lean against an empty work bench, and here surrounded by Alizarin's unfinished works, he might even look like he fits right in. Like they're his doing. Again, too easily nestled at first-- and why not? It's not like he NEEDS to come here that often for it to be this way. It's only natural, right? But when Phthalo looks to his right, to the empty space in the back corner of this locked workroom, that particular immersion is broken in a very immediate way. The glowing eyes which look at him are too piercing, too bright, too RED. Her silhouette possesses too many jagged edges. The glint of her metal exterior deflects all light, like a warning. The threatening aura that hangs in the air when their gazes meet, even while he's certain she recognizes him by design... it's all wrong. Phthalo makes companions, after all. Now, after everything. His projects have always been much smaller scale, too. A cat here, a rat there, a bird when he really wanted to push himself.]

*[... And KEY9? There is none of that sentimentality visible in her, internals be damned. To put it bluntly? That's a big, menacing WOLF. She isn't shy about it, a testament to that being the very point. Neither of them look away until Alizarin is knocking his closed fist back on the wall he's resting against, loudly enough to get the both of their attention.]

🔴 * " hey. focus. ya said ya needed m'help, right? so out with it. "

*[A more nervous sort of laugh this time, as Phthalo shrugs nonchalantly.]

🔵 * " well... yeah, i did. could say i was focused though, uh... she's sort'a why i'm here. "

*[Alizarin definitely looks confused to hear this, casting a deadpan look to KEY9 which is returned in record speed. When Alizarin looks back to his alternate, it's with a slightly warier gaze. Voice sounding tentative as he inquires.]

🔴 * " ... yeah? what 'bout 'er? ya can't have 'er, if that's the kind'a weirdo shit yer on right now. "

*[Phthalo can't help but huff a laugh at that. As if he'd be the type to show up out of the blue and take something so important to somebody.]

🔵 * " no, that's not-- never mind. keepin' it short, since i know ya hate me beatin' 'round the bush... "

🔵 * " ... d'ya think... i could make somethin' like that? like her, i mean. "

*[The rumble of a soft growl which sounds from the corner of the room is ghosted with a faint static. Now it's Alizarin's turn to bark a short laugh, smirking playfully.]

🔴 * " what, y'mean a WEAPON? "

*[Phthalo winces, eyes darting to the side. Alizarin doesn't wait for the reply he knows isn't coming anyway, and instead deigns to actually answer the question.]

🔴 * " sure don't. "

*[Yeesh... that was shot down fast. Not that he's amazed, when it's exactly the answer he expected. So that's that, huh? Or so he thinks. It makes sense. He's not afraid to admit that Alizarin is capable of and practiced in things he isn't, since that's exactly why he came here in the first place. But in the awkward lapse of quiet that seems to drag on after that blow, unable to see it looking away as he is, Alizarin wavers quite clearly. Gritting his teeth with a barely audible grumble, and crossing his arms tightly over his chest. You're caving. You're too soft.]

🔴 * " ... 'm not finished, though. "

🔴 * " -- no, i don't think ya can... alone. but lucky fer you, i'm feelin' generous 'nough ta lend ya a hand. "

*[Phthalo's surprise must be evident, because Alizarin is quick to continue on. Likely trying to bypass receiving the thanks he can see the other readying to give, with a wave to dismiss it altogether.]

🔴 * " and don' bother thankin' me. heh... maybe ya haven't considered this, but i'm not the only one here who'd bring somethin' unique ta the table. 've sort'a been hopin' you'd 'ventually come 'round ta my way'a doin' things. "

*[Phthalo is swift in ignoring the smugness in Alizarin's tone, as if he's won something. He doesn't say anything to argue it, though. He supposes the monster in front of him should be allowed the win this time, if it means he'll help. Alizarin has forever been a fickle one, truth be told. Fairly sensible for the Red type, but he doesn't do anything he doesn't want to and is rather unshakable on that front. The burning in that red pupil however, the one uncovered by an eyepatch, tells Phthalo that he was worried for nothing. Because Alizarin is also fairly unmoving when it comes to doing the things that he DOES want to do, especially when it comes to his engineering. ]

*[ Good. This is good; this will work. Who can he trust if not himself? This is a real plan. Phthalo will stay here for the night, and by morning they'll have come up with something much more tangible to set in motion. It's better than doing nothing and waiting for the worst, isn't it?]

One thing I'm curious about is do the physical changes caused by the virus happen gradually or all at once? I know you said that the virus "slowly" turns them feral but do a drone's body change after their mind changes or alongside it?

I actually have a sketch page I did like a month ago when I was first exploring the idea.

It explains a couple of things about how the virus would effect them and the changes that each of them went through.

Their mind is usually the first thing to go.

The changes to their bodies happen gradually. It can take anywhere from a couple hours to a couple days, depending on the drone. If they're already infected and get bitten by another infected drone, it can increase the speed of their changes.

It's been a while since I read your story and sadly I come here today as a hater: I'm afraid you're not cooking with this romance storyline with Robin. Seeing him kiss Aster was the weirdest thing because he's the most asexual character I've seen in a while. You joked how people didn't believe Robin would get a smooch but it's still not believable, at least not to me. Sorry, but I'm not eating what you're serving. I hope you don't take this badly. But if you do, you have the right to kill me.

There's also something that gave me pause: the reveal that Penny cheated on Levi once and will likely do it again, and probably with Jacob since she has a crush on him.

I just can't see Jacob entertaining Penny. First, Jacob would never accept Levi's sloppy seconds. And second, I think Jacob has an arrogant side that would clash with Penny's attitude of thinking highly of herself. "I'm too good for you" is what I see coming from him regarding her. He's a womaniser but he has taste, and Penny is rotten to the bone like Victoria. And because they're teenagers, Jacob ridiculing Penny as an indirect jab towards Levi would be so realistically petty. There's nothing quite like hitting your enemies from all angles. I'm sure Bruno taught him that. And with Levi being such a doormat, it seems it'll take somebody else to put that girl in her place and knock her down a few pegs.

And Penny's reaction to being rejected for the first time would be a sight. It's what she deserves.

And speaking of Bruno, he must come back! Ivan and Francesca are cute I guess but Brivan is still the 5-star dish and I like the spice Bruno brings to your story. Imagine if Francesca's crazy ex turns out to be an actual problem and Ivan had the bright idea of hitting up Bruno when he realised he couldn't handle the guy? "We split because I wanted to return to this life and you didn't, but now you come here asking the mafia to get involved in your life again so we can help you sort out a guy...? You've lost your mind. You and your woman just need to go to the police like everyone else with an abusive partner. Now get out." but then think twice when he meets the guy in question when he contacts Bruno's family to buy an illegal firearm from them, babbling how he's going to "fix" his ex's new boyfriend and get her and his son back. Initially, he'd be hurt Ivan only sought him for the sake of his new girlfriend, but Bruno will be damned if anything happened to the man who owns his heart and their little daughter. And we know he doesn't mind getting his hands dirty, huh? :3c

Hmmmm maybe you're not wrong to refuse what I'm serving! Maybe it was made in a shitty diner by a jaded cook who didn't wash their hands and thought rat droppings were sprinkles?? FFFFFFF.. no but I get it, Robin and Levi's plan kinda sucked from the get go and him kissing Aster like that was pretty uncharacteristic.. but alas he is a teenage boy with bad decision making skills and false bravado from his little gift, so here we are.

I will say that he's definitely not asexual tho and if I have, I didn't mean to give off that vibe for him.. believe me, most of these teens, including Robin, are thinking and (sometimes) acting on thoughts right now, wink wonk (hell, I know I was at that age) but it's not something I particularly feel like being too graphic about since they're still teens y'know? I've mostly just implied or alluded to such things when necessary, so my bad if that's not coming off too well, but rather that than be too crass.

I may have joked about Penny cheating on Levi with Jacob, and she definitely would if given the chance, but I think you're right that Jacob wouldn't be interested in her, she's far too high maintenance for him and he'd totally be against the idea of touching Levi's seconds like.. no thx! 🫣 I would love to see her try and get shot down for sure tho, that'd be hilarious!! Someone needs to take her down a peg or two one day! Part of me hopes it IS Levi who does so, but we'll have to see.

As much as I still love Brivan I don't think there's even a slight chance Ivan would ever go to him for help, especially since he went back to that life, even if he thought it'd help. He's so against everything it stands for.. it almost took his life, Oscar's in a roundabout way, Cookie's?! and it DID suck Bruno back in, he's waaay too stubborn and proud as well like, Bruno fucking left him for THAT? Are you kidding??? Fuck crawling back to him for ANYTHING, nope. he'd never! Now, that's not to say Bruno wouldn't jump in without Ivan's permission but (and I'll let you off for this cos we don't know Lee too well) he's way too much of a coward to take matters into his own hands like that. He's probably asleep on the job or some shit atm, not buying firearms from Kaden n' co. in Oasis Springs, however exciting that may be.

All that being said, I hope you still like the direction I go with all these threads, because they ARE all going somewhere. We're just dealing with people who don't always make the best decisions at the end of the day and that's what makes this stuff interesting to me! Yup! I got lots of thoughts! Here they are, random an unorganized I'm so sorry TT0TT

I like to think they found Koko somewhere (she's around 2ish years old maybe?), and they adopted her before they turned 20, so they are either 18 or 19 when they adopt her (I have a joke, and yes I think it's hilarious).

They find Koko in a ravaged place (daofei destroyed the town or something). She's not a newborn, but the two of them are still woefully unprepared to take care of a toddler. TT0TT (Thankfully they have 3 grannies, Hei-Ran/Atuat/Auntie Mui, to help them!)

The grannies and Kirima like to poke fun at the whole predicament. (all in good faith)

Hei-Ran: I swear, when you said you liked girls I thought it meant I wouldn't have to worry about my daughter being a teenage mother! And an unmarried one at that! Kirima: Naughty, naughty girls. This is what happens when you fool around outside of wedlock. Atuat: Didn't they teach you where babies come from in that hoity toity Fire Academy? Auntie Mui: Kyoshi! Were my "Talks" not enough?!

Anyway everyone spoils the shit outta Koko (she's precious and cute!) She's rambunctious and cute and gets into a lot of trouble (her Auntie Kirima and Uncle Wong help her with that). She may or may not run Kyo and Rangi a tad ragged. >:3c

Note: I'm unsure if Koko's a bender or not, and if she is what element she'd be. I usually lean towards Earthbender if not Nonbender. (but Fire or Water would change things up). But we'll go with Earthbender for now.

Koko usually falls asleep while being held by Rangi or Hei-Ran (designated warm Mother and Grandmother 🥺). Rangi's afraid she's the more "strict" mom (it's the army brat in her u_u), so even if Kyoshi's also a firebender, she designates Rangi as the "warm" mom to curb Koko maybe being scared of her (really cloth monkeying the heck outta this lil girl TT0TT but Rangi's a good mom! she's just a lil scary looking kfjsklaf). She's the one to freak out the most about Koko's wellbeing (it's the mother hen in her).

Now sleeping? Kyoshi and Rangi already run on not a lot of sleep tbh. Avataring does that to you. But when Koko does cry in the middle of the night, Rangi's the one who tries to be the first one there. She feels like Kyoshi gets a lot less sleep than she needs and will try to rectify that as much as possible!

That being said, she doesn't like getting up (but does it for duty, and she's not mad at lil Koko she's just a baby). And Kyoshi still finds a way to get up with her (no this defeats the purpose of Rangi getting up Kyoshi!). They are both idiots trying their best ok??? TT0TT

The Grannies try to help as much as they can cause otherwise Rangshi will look like zombies all the time. TT0TT Really taking "it takes a village to raise a child" to heart with raising Koko.

Koko calls Kyoshi "Mama" and later "Mom" (when she becomes a Teen), or "Avatar" in a super formal setting. She slips up and calls her mama sometimes tho. TT0TT "Mam-I mean mom- I-I mean. *cough* *super serious voice* Avatar."

Koko calls Rangi "mofer" (really young, trying to imitate what Rangi calls Hei-Ran), "mommy" (when they convince her to use this for now), "mother" (when she hits teen years).

(Kyo and Rangi miss being called Mama and Mommy tho TT0TT But they also think it's SOOOOO adorable when she acts super serious and grown up, and also when she slips up askfjlslkajf)

Koko looks very similar to Kyoshi (Earth Kingdom features). With greener eyes (Kyo's eye color changes like the damn wind, but they're more blue like Suki's imo) and freckles (not the same as Kyo's but still). Her hair color is more like Suki's too. (maybe she's Suki's ancestor? Who knows? ;U)

But as she grows up she really takes on Rangi's personality (even wears a lil topknot!). She's a very serious Kyoshi Warrior yes she is (she got that army brat in her, she got it from her mother jkfslajf)

That being said, Koko still feels "softer" than Rangi. Like how Rangi still feels "softer" than Hei-Ran (Rangi, my precious cry baby ;w;). Blah blah "each generation softening the blow for the new generation to come" mentality yadda yadda.

When they first adopt Koko, she's greatly malnourished. They have to take things slow while she recovers. Rangi's freaking out, she's just a baby! And she just sees the kid suffering and wants to help as fast as possible, and now she's seeing Kyoshi starving as a kid when she looks at Koko and it's making her freak out more and-

Kyoshi has to calm her down. She and Mui have experience from when Kyo was recovering, and Atuat is a doctor. Rangi was worrying herself ragged during that time. (lots of cuddle sessions to keep Koko warm).

Kyoshi is the one who plays the most games with Koko I think. Rangi encourages it, Kyoshi is nervous. It's because Kyoshi never played in any reindeer games I mean. Played any (earthbending) games growing up, partially cause of the bullying but also partially cause she was afraid she'd hurt the other kids (she was powerful and couldn't control her bending yet). So this is both a good bonding experience for them, but also it gives Kyoshi reassurance in her bending!

Koko's the most well known cause she's the oldest and first child of Rangshi. But Kyoshi/Rangi do end up having other kids, and Koko loves them and is very protective of them.

Kyoshi and Rangi keep track of all their descendants (yes I think Rangi is also immortal RoR gave me hope like a dumb bitch TT0TT), and they interact with their grandkids and great-great-great-great grandkids and yeah. Just a fun tidbit, they love their family a lot.

All in all, even if Kyoshi and Rangi can't be with her all the time (Avatar stuff u_u). Koko knows she is loved, and they make sure that she is taken care of.

jokes aside tho (i mean he did lose his eye to a rock but there's some more context to it), there's such thing as Horse Head Farms (later referred to as hhf) if anyone remembers what that is, and in recks au those guys host races across the desert, which is a good way to Get Rich Quick if you can win.

and, you remember that big vitally important prosthetic etho got? well, he was able to get it of course, his life depended on it, but it also put him in some serious debt. nothing unmanageable of course, the health system provides some good insurance programs and generally helps a lot of its patients as best as it can etc etc, but etho is etho, he can't just be like everyone else. he can't just be normal.

after spending some time recovering from the surgery and getting used to the prosthetic and his new lifestyle, etho was feeling a but uhmm irritated. because suddenly everyone treats him like he's an expensive vase in a museum and he has to be careful around everyone and everything and oh he's so fragile. and that annoys him. a lot. and there's probably some hormonal stuff involved after the surgery but who cares about that stuff. point being, etho is not feeling good and he wants to do something fun and dangerous.

so he signs up for a hhf race, on his hoverboard, not yet fully recovered, quite rusty, against people with better equipment, in the middle of a scorching rocky desert...... i mean, have i mentioned that he's actually very smart?

well, one thing after another, he gets bumped or just trips or something and goes flying, lands on a rock, boom bam eye gone. (he lost the race also but that was pretty obvious)

tango was also participating in that race, also on a hoverboard (tho tango is much better on it), so he reported etho to the emergency team, plus he and etho were able to meet after not seeing each other for yeeeaars, admittedly tho it was a pretty embarrassing time for etho to meet anyone.

he's fiiine tho, he had to walk around with an eyepatch for a bit but he got the prosthetic eventually.

The two of them slowly opening up and getting more curious and playful is so cute to me. Especially the thing about them slamming their tails against the glass just to say hi ;w; The first time they do that when Prowl walks past, Prowl gets such a shock the noise that he jumps, doorwings shooting up, datapad going flying. The twins think its so funny

They also like to steal stuff like datapads or cleaning equipment so that Prowl has to come get them. They swim around and keep it out of his reach, toying with him, knowing he can't keep up under the water

Eventually, as they get comfortable enough to get physically closer to Prowl, they start poking around his frame. Land mech armour is different in a way, less joints, more exposed cabling. They think its interesting. Prowl squirms and tells them to stop, and initially swats their servos away- but eventually relents when he realises maybe its good to encourage their boldness. The first time he swatted at them they shrank away and he immediately regretted it. So he lets them poke around. He makes it obvious that it annoys him tho. Not that the twins care.

The twins are especially interested in Prowl's doorwings. They behave closely to the fins they are used to, flaring out in aggression and being pulled close to the frame in fear, etc. They like to provoke reactions out of Prowl to see how his little wings move. They think its very cute when the doorwings wiggle. I think they make fun of him too, trying to mimic his little doorwing wiggles with their fins when he does it.

Prowl always sighs heavily and resigns himself to getting his doorwings played with. That's usually something he would never allow- His sensor panels are too sensitive to just let anyone poke around. They're a weakness he will not let others exploit. But these two are different. They're just curious. And mayyybe he has a soft spot for them. Maybe he's not very good at telling them 'no'

The doorwing thing is distracting tho. The panels really are sensitive. Depending on how the twins decide to poke at him, sometimes it tickles, sometimes it feels really nice. Once in a while they will poke or pull too hard and Prowl jerks his doorwing away in pain. The twins do seem to recognise the little pained noises and always pull away, making a little noise that sounds like a whimper, an apology.

Prowl does have to remind himself that the mers dont mean anything by touching his wings. Even when they gently run their talons over the flat of his sensor panels, even when they massage into the tense joints and his wings flutter in response... They dont know what it does to him. And that's okay. He lets them keep going.

After a while, in return, they do let Prowl touch them too. The red mer is a little more eager, the yellow one takes a little longer to let Prowl's servos anywhere near him. But it turns out they both like being touched. Prowl gets to pet them. They seem to like it since they always lay about him and purr their engines when he does. The red one is a little more forward, nudging his helm and sometimes his frame against Prowl's servo until he gets the message. The yellow one likes to pretend he's not interested, but will lay around Prowl anyway until he gets included in the pets.

Prowl is awed to find out how delicate their flowing fins are. They are soft in a way that ripples in the water, usually soft enough that attacks would deflect off them, but also easily torn if caught. Prowl also learns that, when one of the twins accidentally hurts themselves in a friendly scuffle, that the thin mesh of their fins repair quickly. He likes to run his fingers over the soft fins, feeling their almost silky texture under his digits.

One day Prowl gets absolutely no warning as he enters the tank and suddenly gets kissed on the lips. Or he THINKS he gets kissed. He has no idea what happens really. One moment he's getting into the water and the next moment he has one of the mers on him. He squawks in surprise and suddenly he finds the mer's glossa in his mouth.

His optics are wide in panic- Vaguely he notices that he can see red twin off to the side, smiling at him- so the one on him must be the yellow one-

He doesn't have it in him to push away, despite the shock, and is just frozen solid as the mer licks the inside of his intake. The mer's glossa is thorough, pressing against his own glossa, then stroking against the insides of his cheeks, before running over his denta-

Prowl pants. Or he tries to. If he were above water his vents would be throwing out hot air, solvent probably dripping from his intake. But, in the water, all his systems can do is cycle the water through his vents. At least it does a good job of cooling him.

Only after a very thorough lick through his mouth does the mer finally let up. The yellow mer pulls away, servos still on his shoulders, stares at him, cheeks pink with energon, before suddenly darting away.

Prowl is stunned, vents whirring, as he sees the red mer laugh and the take his twin's place, giving Prowl no warning before invading his mouth too.

YESSSSS we're bringing back mers licking people's mouths!!!! I like that it was Sunny who took his time with it.... he's like a cat. Stubbornly refusing to let Prowl know he appreciates his presence in the tank, but when he shows him affection, it counts.

I imagine it is also a grand act of trust between mers... they're trying to tell Prowl that they finally understand that he won't hurt them. If he meant to hurt them, he would just reject the affections and bite down. That's how this works.

Prowl does not know that that's even an option. Not that he'd consider it if he knew, but he's just overall very confused as to what happened. He's not a mer behaviouralist, he only has special privileges to approach and touch these two specimens because they seem at ease when they are near him, and with everything they've gone through, the staff wants to keep them calm and comfortable. Prowl wouldn't know that mers kiss, let alone know why they do it.

He is confused and weirdly aroused by the action... And probably extremely ashamed of himself for feeling aroused. First they kept charging him up by rubbing his door wings, and they're going to be doing this? How is he supposed to keep his panels closed...

almost got a 2 for one, I hc tang to be the kind of person that doesn't really stutter or close off when he gets flustered he just starts laughing. It'll start out as soft chuckles and giggling but it just grows deeper and louder the more flustered he gets. Pigsy, being completely enamored with his man, tends to fall into a laughing fit with him and then they just become a flustered happy giggling heep in each other's arms. Sooo close, I won't stretch Tang's little giggle so far as to say that that hc is also basically canon, WILL use this scene to justify it tho :3c

I made a decision!!!

I was talking about the askblog on Livestream yesterday, and decided on some things afterwards!

Frst of all, I'll be turning off Anon asks for both this blog and the ask blog for now! Mostly cause after thinking about it, there are more Pros than Cons for doing so, especially because now you need a tumblr account to ask questions anyways, and Anon was mostly just an accessibility option for people without Tumblr accounts.

Sadly I know this'll deter more shy users from asking questions, but its better this way.

Ofc, as Anon is so beloved to me, I might turn on anon again in the future (If I decide to still have the askblog or not in the future), but I do want to see what'll happen without it.

Also! Changing a few things with the askblog as well, you will see a shift in Askblog content/how the askblog is conducted. I'll also possibly be using the new designs of the characters instead of the older ones so I can get used to drawing them/change them preemptively if I start not liking their designs. Depends on if I want to draw asks at all tho. On the askblog, I wont be answering questions regarding what is currently happening in SSEC, nor will I be answering questions regarding what will happen in Box 31, it'll just be white void questions from here on out. If an ask blog event happens, any asks pertaining to the event will have the event name and how many asks left before the event ends, but I'll still answer asks not relating to the event if I want to.
