okay so, redesigning nadine for the third and (hopefully) final time. i felt she looked too similar to soraya (my keyframes fall mc) so i changed nadine up a bit. also!! i was trying to find oc templates to fill out for my visual novel ocs and although there’s so many out there, none were exactly what i was looking for soooo…. I made my own! i’ll post my other our life ocs with them soon but first, nadine ! (again)

I’ve also changed my own mind. Nadine will be my MC for Qiu’s route.

Nadine introduction <3

Nadine spent much of her early childhood moving from place to place, all within her home state of California but oftentimes in different cities. Moving around so often made it hard to keep in contact with friends and after a while made it especially hard making friends in the first place.

When Opal tells Nadine they‘re moving once again, Nadine is surprised to learn they’re moving to Oregon, their neighboring state. This time, she learns it’ll be a more permanent location. Nadine doesn’t know exactly how to feel. She’s so used to moving around that being in a place for so long sounds foreign, weird and new. However, part of her can’t help but feel excited, especially since she gets her own room now! But no matter what, she knows mama will be with her every step of the way.

Upon meeting Qiu and Tamarack, Nadine quickly feels they can be the best of friends. Nadine has always been more of a quiet person but not necessarily shy. Spend enough time with her and you’ll find she can talk quite a lot. Yet she’s perfectly content with simply listening as well.

Nadine is mostly a rule follower. Rules are there for a reason right? She prides herself on being neat and orderly. All her belongings are pristine and in their place because that’s just how she likes it. During step 1, Nadine strongly dislikes getting dirty. Which can be difficult to avoid if you’re playing outside in the woods.

Step Two !!

After four years, Nadine has adjusted well into her new home. Although Nadine needs glasses she very much prefers to use eye contacts instead. It’s also the most convenient when ice skating. She’s taken on ice skating as her main past time and she’s fairly good. Her transportation of choice has been rollerblading so it makes sense she got into ice skating as well.

Her other hobbies are more on the creative side. She enjoys crafting and drawing on occasion. Cosplaying is also one of her major hobbies. For years she has worked on making her Halloween costumes with the help of Mama.

During this time Nadine becomes more of a shy person. During her earlier childhood, she had no problem voicing her thoughts and opinions but it seems now that sort of thing gets harder to do as you age. Thankfully, she has her two close friends to turn to whenever she needs a hand, and in turn she will be there for them as well.

Step Three !!

Nadine has less and less time to do things she wants. If this is how adult life is she wants zero part of it </3

Nadine has always prioritized their studies (although that became much harder to do when middle school started due to her procrastination habits). Now college is weighing on their mind. Nadine still very much enjoys ice skating yet she struggles to make time to practice. Similarly, cosplaying has turning into a year long project (for Halloween of course). Doing multiple cosplays a year is something she doesn’t have time for anymore. Although they are often busy, Nadine will always make time for a special someone and her best friend, Tamarack.

Throughout many years Nadine has learned things about themselves and grown into the person they are today. Her experiences and the people she has been around since she was ten years old have impacted her life to mold her into who she is, for better or worse. And honestly, they wouldn’t have it any other way.

i went in thinking penacony was a far superior former IPC prison planet to live on than eris (from nexus) and left going hm. perhaps the eternal night is preferable to biblically accurate flying killer worms. LOTUS-EATER > the reverie hotel

this update might be my favorite yet. i've always loved dazzling, noire veneers with seedy undercurrents. i'm not sure if i've mentioned it on this blog (i probably have bc i never shut up) but the game la noire is one of my all-time favorites. jazzy music, glamorous starlets, corrupt organizations; those set pieces just do something for me. the environments are gorgeous. the reverie hotel has this larger than life feel to it and its layout reminds me of a panopticon, then there's the dreamscape itself. a city that never sleeps which you can only access by falling unconscious. there's so much creativity in the puzzles and charm in the little interactions littered throughout. i especially loved playing matchmaker with a bunch of bottles.

alright, onto the story itself: the start and end were strong with the middle being a hit-or-miss. i am far more forgiving with this in star rail than i am in genshin, since in the former, i'm subjected to the cruel and unusual punishment of hearing paimon's banshee shrieks. i think they did a good job crafting a compelling mystery. anything involving the unconscious is a writer's treasure trove, there's so much you can explore with it. i'm curious to see the angle they take.

as for the moments that stood out to me the most:

the initial dream sequence ft acheron with her being weird. the seemingly eternal hallways, contorting in physic-defying ways were a personal favorite. it reminds me how in dreams, there isn't always an outright threat, yet uneasiness persists. what's familiar warps into something indifferent and unknowable. very neat. then the shot of her crying blood after cutting down the trailblazer... very iconic of her.

mr aventurine. what was he about to do to the trailblazer?? why must they have stopped him?? let him cook. i was game for anything. zero fear, zero hesitation. he's an interesting player. neoliberal girlboss topaz had some workable parameters, aventurine is a total wildcard. his ambitions are murky at best. i kinda wonder if he might stick it to the IPC by purposefully flunking his assignment, it'd make for great revenge.

sparkle is unapologetically awful which makes her fun. her cosplaying as sunday's recently deceased sister was so appalling that i actually stopped for a moment when i pieced together what was going on. i've always found aha and their absurdist philosophy one of the most interesting among the aeons. it seems like there's a real emphasis on characters that embody their aeon's ideals (black swan + fuli, sparkle + aha, sunday/robin + xipe, etc). i hope they lean into it more.

SAM.................................................. his encounter betrayed my expectations in the best way possible. i have so many questions about his involvement and motivations. the music for his fight had my heartrate ascending. i play with japanese voices so i'm not sure if it's limited to the JP dub, but i was surprised by how polite he speaks?? even as he's about to immolate the trailblazer + her two accompanying girlfriends. it wasn't the cadence i envisioned for him. the stellaron hunters never fail to capture my interest, wtf are they Doing........

welcome to the second part of 'first time watching OP movies so i'm rating the outfits' ft One Piece: Stampede!

Luffy: (10/10): love this fit. one of my fave Luffy’s fits ever especially with the sh logo on the back. the white and red are iconic. he even switched up the sandals. not really sure about the cannon but i'll let it slide

Franky (5/10): He's just baked off the ganja in all these movies. that's why he's always rocking shades. he thinks he's a pagoda or smth it's fine just leave him be

Robin (7/10): it's giving maddie from euphoria but trying to make it classy so she added a lil sweater and modest heels.

Nami (3/10): color scheme is so off. green/blue/pink/black is just too much especially with the red hair. one of those girls you see at the gym taking vids of her ass. nami is forever snatched tho.

Sanji (6/10): would be higher since he's just cheffing it up in this fit if he didn't have one of those stupid fucking fake tie shirts. it does make his pecs look good tho.

Zoro (7/10): zoro looks great in anything but i am sorry what is with the shorts. something about this one just feels so off. i do like the cutout details tho. He’s always hot.

Brook (10/10): i will never not laugh at his stupid skeleton jokes. my ideal summer body. we are both dead inside. love the hair.

Usopp (6/10): honestly it's decent for an usopp fit. he's just cosplaying as my mechanic.

Chopper (5/10): wonder what would happen if sanji ashed his cigarette on that wick and his hat just blew up

I watch Supernatural and yeah there were scary episodes but I can't think of anything as traumatic as the Devlin House episode! 😭 Just... watching the dad murder his poor family over and over was awful, seeing how affected Charles was broke my heart, the dad having a secret room to spy on his family was creepy and disturbing and OH MY FUCKING GOD?!?! Top Ten Witches

Oooooooooooo, it’s Halloween! Don’t you feel spooky? Ooky? Kooky? No? Just me then.

Because it’s Halloween, that means – by law – that it is also the Season of the Witch. As such, to celebrate the most macabre of holidays, I’ve decided to get my witch on and rank my favourite fictional witches. It’s entirely possible – okay, almost certain – that this focus on our broom-riding sisters was inspired by the rather fantastic Agatha All Along, which flies to its spooktacular conclusion this coming week (double episode finale on Thursday!). Agatha is not just a terrific show in and of itself, but it’s also super witchy, focusing on a makeshift coven getting up to all kinds of magical mischief. The most recent episode had the gang cosplaying as everyone from Maleficent to the Wicked Witch. So witches have been on my mind.

What is a witch? That’s a question that’s preoccupied me whilst writing. Because there are a couple of characters here who are, basically, supernatural beings; are they still witches? Or does a witch have to be essentially a human who does magic? Is it cheating if you’re already the daughter of an actual demon? Or a fairy? Or, well, a sort of octopus lady? Basically, I’ve just gone with vibes; even in the MCU there seems to be an unspoken differential between the “sorcerers” of Doctor Strange and the witches of Agatha All Along, but you generally wouldn’t confuse the two. So these are all characters that just seem pretty witchy.

Also, as an aside: a lot of Disney characters here. Yes, because of an overall souring, there’s a certain famous “witchy” franchise that I just can’t recommend, so there are a few characters that might otherwise have appeared on here; don’t blame me, I’m not the billionaire bigot in this scenario. Also it’s been absolutely ages since I’ve seen Practical Magic or The Craft, and – sorry – Hocus Pocus isn’t really a masterpiece. So those famous witches sadly didn’t make the cut. But even so, who knew Disney made such great witches? They’re not necessarily a company you really think of as being particularly witchy. But most of their greatest villains are, it turns out, witch-adjacent, and they’ve ended up owning Marvel, who do good witch.

Anyway. Grab your broom and your pointy hat, get your hubble bubble on, and join me down the Witches’ Road. Happy Halloween, hags!

The Three Witches (Macbeth, 1606): absolute legends in the field; three creepy crones who speak in rhymes and riddles, tell the future, but do it basically just for a lark to ruin Macbeth’s life. Are they agents of fate, or agents of chaos? I dunno, I didn’t actually study Macbeth at uni. But they are really cool, and their whole “eye of newt” deal arguably set the stage for the sort of cauldron-stirring iconography for modern witches.

Raven (DC Comics, 1980): the first of my “is she a witch or is she just magic?” characters, but I’ve allowed her partly because of her whole “Wednesday Addams with a spellbook” vibe, the fact that she actually does have a spellbook, and the fact that – at least in the eighties – her friends in the Teen Titans literally referred to her as a witch. And she’s awesome, one of my favourite DC characters; a moody teen who has fantastic style and a nice line in sarcasm. Although her various animated appearances have given her iconic moments and lines to spare, I’ve always been a fond this quote: “My father was a demon. That doesn’t make me a Goth. I like all kinds of music”. And for that we thank Grant Morrison.

The Grand High Witch (The Witches, 1983): so far we’ve dealt with agents of chaos and actual superheroes, but this lady is evil. She’s a proper baddy, and she’s supremely freaky and terrifying. The novel The Witches was a seminal book for me as a kid (partly because of the bittersweet end), but the seductive nature combined with utter monstrosity of the Grand High Witch is one of the reasons I love it so. Yes, okay, the “ugly equals bad” thing is hella problematic, but everything else about her is Peak Villainy.

Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty, 1959): a contender for Sexiest Disney Character and also – unquestionably – their most iconic villain. A slinky seductive presence, as far away from the warty crone of Snow White as you can get; she’s a proper glamourpuss and a drama queen, and probably did as much to influence the general direction of witches in the second half of the twentieth century as Macbeth’s witches did for the previous three hundred years. A masterpiece of character design, animation, and voice. Yes, okay, she’s technically a fairy who turns into a dragon. But she’s definitely witchy, yeah?

Eglantine Price (Bedknobs and Broomsticks, 1971): phew, back to the nice ones – although still at Disney! Miss Price is Angela Landsbury’s character, a wannabe witch who has more power than she realises. She’s got a nice dose of classic British governess about her, but she’s a kindly presence with a heroic streak. And, look, she literally fights the Nazis. I can’t overstate this enough: this witch repels the Far Right. We need more Prices around right now.

Agatha Harkness (Marvel Cinematic Universe, 2021): is it recency bias? I dunno, but I frickin’ love Agatha. Kathryn Hahn’s performance (and yes, I’m just looking to her MCU portrayal, because quite frankly I don’t think I’d heard of the character before WandaVision) is just delightful, full of sarky one-liners and sassy expressions, but all of that seems to hide depth and sadness. Her story is ongoing, so quite how the character will turn out – tragic hero or empathetic villain – is uncertain; but she deserves a place just for the song.

Witch Hazel (Looney Tunes, 1954): on the one hand, she has what amounts to a stylised interpretation of the stereotypical witch image: she’s a green crone with a huge nose and chin, dressed in a dark smock with a pointy hat. But the off-kilter design – huge, bulbous head, tiny spindly legs; small hat all squashed and crooked; frazzled hair coming off in all angles – gives her a unique, rather kooky edge, reflective of where Looney Tunes was in the fifties. Plus she’s just super-funny, a worthy adversary to Bugs, June Foray’s performance is sublime, and I adore the fact that whenever she darts off-screen she leaves behind a small cloud of hair-pins.

Ursula (The Little Mermaid, 1989): not just a sea witch; she’s the sea witch. Famously – and fabulously – modelled on Divine, she’s a plus-sized queen with tentacles-full of charisma, wicked charm, sensuality, and – yes – more than enough camp. Her voice (big up Pat Carroll) is tremendous, and the way she lolls and rolls about, tentacles swaying, is incredible to see. Plus she’s just a bad-ass octopus lady who makes dark magic spells and turns people into weird scrawny plant-things. What’s not to like?

Lady Jessica (Dune, 2021): again we get into the “is she technically a witch?” area. But the Bene Gesserit have what may as well be magic powers; especially when they get really into the Fremen of it all, and the Water of Life. Is it some kind of chemical reaction that causes hallucinations? Or is it, like, magic that lets her see the future? I mean, the whole twisty-turny timey-wimey stuff in Dune is bonkers as it is, and Jessica is right at the centre. But outside of all that, it’s her voice, and her ability to control people, Obi-Wan style, that suggests witchiness. And I’m focusing on Rebecca Ferguson’s portrayal in the movies specifically, because she imbues Jessica with an earnestness and a sorrow, as well as an uncanny aura of dread, that I didn’t get as strongly from the book.

The Wicked Witch of the West (The Wizard of Oz, 1939): sadly just edging out classic picture-book witches Meg and Winnie is this great green crone; because, really, I feel she defines so much of what a “witch” is. I think Margaret Hamilton’s portrayal in the film is so iconic, it helped solidify the notion of a witch for much of the twentieth century. She’s an evil magic-user who wears black and has a sweet hat, and gets to hang out with a bunch of flying monkeys. She has a natty cackle and a nice way with a nasty one-liner. I’ve not read the books, if I’m honest, but as a movie witch, she’s pretty great.

A cracking four witches from Disney properties, against two from (proper) WB films; or three if we allow Lady Jessica as a WB character. Anyway, who’d have thought that nicey-nicey Disney would go so hard for witches? And I didn’t even feature Bette Midler.

Reading the W.I.T.C.H. reboot, part 1

Okay, W.I.T.C.H. reboot, here we go!:

AS: BTW, I was a huge fan of W.I.T.C.H. my whole childhood and most of my teenage years (where the writing quality dropped). The art style was a huge influence for my current art style and I even cosplayed Elyon three times. My favorite character was Hay Lin (then Elyon) and I still have most of the comics and the gifts they put on the magazine. So yeah, no pressure.

-Maybe it’s just me, but the cover looks… boring? It’s like Will here gave life to her dolls. Here’s a first look of the redesigns and… I guess I’ll talk more about them later, but: Taranee: sporty, weird, Irma: not bad, I guess, I like the combo of tan skin and curly ponytail, Hay Lin: well, that’s not my Hay Hey, but she looks cute, Cornelia: classy, not bad and… if I hadn’t read about it, never, in a million years, I’d have guessed that’s Elyon. She’s just an albino girl.

-BTW, I would have changed the logo. It makes no sense keeping it exactly the same. I’ve always thought the “c” is the odd one here.

-Oh, emojis, cool. But Taranee looks mad. And Irma looks like George of the Jungle. Sorry.

-You know, it’s sad when you put the six characters and then leave Elyon clearly out. No slide for her (even though her color was purple). And Taranee has an undercut? I’m guessing she’ll be quite different from the Taranee we used to know. Also, first look at the… magical outfits? They look like gymnasts. Or about to dance in the Dance Academy (I hated that arc).  Also, also, Taranee looks concerned about that light in her chest and… yeah, girl, I’d be concerned too.

-While I enjoy that a multi-artist (that exists, right?) is the one behind the project, now I wonder if she was given it because she’s actually good or because she’s famous. Is she the writer? I guess? Also, putting the old designs? For what? Nostalgia?

-According to the intro drawing, Will will be the most important character, then Elyon (holding the dusty remnants of something she vaporized, probably), and then the other girls. The Heart of Kandrakar is golden now and… sorry, but I can’t with Will’s eyelashes. She looks like an old cartoon. And while Elyon’s new design would look good for any other character, I think the old one worked better for both her good and bad sides. And that hairstyle was iconic. Also, now that I see her black eyebrows… maybe she’s not albino after all? Taranee looks pissed to be there, Cornelia now has dimples (cute!), Hay Lin has the curse of “Asian-girl-with-colored-streak” and she’s extra pale and Irma… well, she doesn’t look that bad. PS: I know Hay Lin being yellow in the original comic was bad, but at least she could be light brown? I remember doing a lot of research to find my OC Aury’s skin tone and I knew it had to be a shade of brown. She looks a little ghostly-like.

-I actually like the art style.

hello there! first of all i wanna thank you for your translations of the side stories! we get so little about b komachi and I found it really fascinating to see that some of the lyrics from idol seem to have been lifted from 45510 especifically. ( could be mistaken, haha)

but in any case, there's a particular outfit of Ai's that you tag as beautiful dreamer, at first I had only seen this outfit in cosplay websites and I was skeptical of it even being anything more than an effort to sell more costumes. I was wondering if you knew what official art it is from? I'd love to see the original picture, cuz as hard as I try I don't seem to be able to find it!

ANON THIS WAS SUCH A LOVELY ASK TO WAKE UP TO, THANK U SO MUCH 🥺 Honestly it has been years since I actively took part in a Big Fandom enough to contribute meta so knowing that people are enjoying reading my thoughts about this silly little series is kind of mindblowing to me lol. Ai's neurodivergence and the way it factors into the way she navigates the world is suuuuuuuch a key foundational part of understanding her (at least imo) so it makes me glad to see people are vibing with me talking about it so explicitly.

You are correct, tho! IDOL's lyrics are directly based on 45510 and parts of Ai's dialogue scattered around the first volume of the manga - it's always kind of a surprise when I go back through it and I'm like oh my god right, yosasobi just came for the THROAT with some of these lines!!! I've been working on my own TL of 45510 just to keep myself occupied and I've been having a lot of fun trying to make my translations of those lines actually scan to the appropriate lines of IDOL hehehe.

To answer your question tho! That particular Ai design is an official alt outfit/AU design for the Lies and Ai (展 嘘とアイ) exhibition and collab cafe that was held in Japan!

As you can see, everyone got a cute, mahou shoujo inspired look as a tie in.

You can read a little more information about it in this news article but it was basically a little art installation based around Oshi no Ko where certain iconic scenes and outfits from the anime's first episode were recreated for folks to see and a collab cafe with character-themed foods was also hosted. If you'd like to get an idea of what the exhibition looks like, happyuchannel (who does a lot of videos on OnK events in Japan!) has a video about their visit where they show off the parts they were allowed to photograph and some of the merch they got.

The reason I tag this as 'Beautiful Dreamer' is because I run a magical girl AU roleplay called Beautiful Dreamer over on Dreamwidth and Ai is one of the characters I play there! By total coincidence, this art dropped like the day after I decided to play her there and had to work out a mahou look for her and then I guess the universe rewarded me for good decision making LOL

("Claire is this a transparent ploy to get people to come over to Dreamwidth and play in your mahou game?" Of Course It Is)

Unfortunately there aren't any full/high quality images of the art anywhere that I know if since it exists just for the collab cafe but I imagine that when an art book specific to the anime inevitably drops, we'll get full spreads of a lot of the collab cafe/promo art.

My Movie Review: "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"

I'm FINALLY getting around to writing this movie review after all of the unfortunate craziness that's been going on in my life for the past two months.....🤪🤦🏾‍♀️

Anyway, I saw “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” at theaters over a month ago lol!  😅 I just wanted to share my own personal Movie Review, and see what you all maybe thought about the film as well.  

**NOTE:  I will first start off by giving a very general overview/review of the movie overall, and then further down below, I will discuss the pros and cons from the movie, and will go more in-depth and be more candid with how I felt about the movie. 😊

With that said….

OVERALL:

Overall, I felt like this movie was the type of film that someone who is a fan of Whitney's music might want to check out just for the sheer enjoyment of her music alone.

I had forgotten how many great hits Whitney had over the years, and how many of her songs have been iconic to me growing up. I've always been a huge fan, and so this movie was a nice tribute to her music. I got chills down my spine during some of her performance scenes. 😊 I was even singing and dancing along to most of her music lol. 😂 There were quite a few things that I didn't know about Whitney's personal life (especially her younger life) that this movie seemed to touch on a little bit, so that was interesting. Personally? I felt like the acting of Naomi, Ashton, Nafessa, and Tamara Tunie especially, really stood out in this film imo.

PROS:

The music was great!

The acting was decent

I liked the "back-in-time" 80s and 90s wardrobe/fashions lol

They tried their best to make the cast look like the real Whitney/Bobby/Clive/Cissy/Bobbi Christina, etc.

I feel like I learned a lot more about Whitney's younger life, and her relationship with Robyn than I knew about.

I actually felt like Nafessa kind of stole the show in her scenes with Naomi. 👀

CONS:

I hate to say it.... But the main thing that took me out of this movie each and every time was the fact that Naomi looked NOTHING AT ALL like Whitney HOUSTON!!!! 😤😡 Usually I'm not that picky and I don't really care as much and I can suspend my disbelief even if the actor doesn't look exactly like the real person in history because their acting is so good, but for some reason, with this movie, I just couldn't do it.....I'm sorry! I would hear Whitney's VOICE singing, but then when I would LOOK at the actress, it just took me out of the whole entire scene. :(

I almost felt like it was someone cosplaying as Whitney Houston. To her credit, Naomi is a great actress... But I just kept asking myself throughout the whole entire movie: "You mean to tell me there were NO African-American actresses who looked a LITTLE like Whitney that they could have chosen for this role??"

Whoever wrote this film certainly gave Bobby Brown the "Good Edit", cuz ummmm..... 👀 In this movie they almost made it seem like Bobby and Whitney just had regular normal spats like most couples, and we all know THAT is a lie. 😒🙄 I'm shocked they didn't show her with not one black eye in the film, nor did they even allude to him hitting her. But oh well....

My other gripe with this movie was the fact that I didn't feel like enough money was put into it. I feel like this movie should have been BIGGER. I have seen at least two Whitney biopics now (a made-for-TV one, and this movie), and EACH and every single time, I feel like they just don't do Whitney's life story justice. I feel like it's always some low-budget type deal. 🥴 I'm sorry, but after seeing awesome biopics like "Ray", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Elvis", "JFK", "Malcolm X", etc. , I just can't with this biopic. It's just NOT on the same level as those others at all. It makes me sad that it almost felt like they didn't even TRY with this biopic. 😔

MY OVERALL SCORE:  6/10  - Overall, if you love Whitney's iconic music, and just want to have a great time dancing and enjoying a light-hearted film, then check it out! But if you're expecting this film to be on any sort of level as other biopics done.... Then, you're going to be sorely disappointed. 😔 They just didn't put as much MONEY into this film as I would have hoped. I just hope that Michael's biopic has some BIG money behind it. I just feel like Whitney's biopic deserved better...and I would have started by casting someone else as the lead. 👀

I gave this movie a chance even despite my overwhelming feeling that the actress looked NOTHING like Whitney. I tried...But it did make a difference in some of my enjoyment of the film. (no offense) Maybe it's because I actually remember when Whitney was alive lol. Anyway.... Overall, it's a fun movie to watch at least once, and I encourage anyone who is just a fan of her music to check it out. I would say that it's streamable.... It's not one you have to watch on the big screen in other words. It was good fun though! So, definitely one worth checking out if you're a fan of Whitney's music. 😊👍

seeing a lot of lovely haute couture on the dash so i want to lob in my own two cents on muses in relevant fandom:

ada has expensive taste, but does not wear designer clothing into the field. could you even imagine that level of filth on a genuine mcqueen? she'd die of shame. fortunately, she has a hook-up who does counterfeits. the authentic pieces are at home, the mission wardrobe just passes for the real thing.

danae lives and dies in mugler. she saw a gown in the fall 1983 collection and was furious that at 12 she couldn't wear it. a cursory glance at her wardrobe reveals over $100k of the designer's vintage works -- all bought new or tailored to suit our lady spencer. if she's not in something fashionable and expensive, she's naked.

sh*va likes fashion well enough, but it isn't really a priority. i've always slotted her as slightly more of a grown tomboy, certain questionable unlockable outfits aside. perfectly professional and stylish, but not devoted to trends or names. prefers quality over prestige, but won't turn her nose up if she finds a good deal.

chris and billy purchase a gallon of tank tops at costco for 12 dollars and are set for the year. chris maybe hits up an athletic store, but only a markdown outlet, for his silly breathable tops. billy doesn't even make it that far. his jeans are crusty. chris only develops fashion sense as an old man. he's cosplaying his former boss anyway.

marvin was fashionable! he couldn't really go big or go home given his salary/the economy, but he got by. exquisite 90s drip. iconic leather jacket, some sturdy denim. the vibe i get off the city isn't a very cutting edge one, but he did what he could with what was on hand. was not going to pay for a name, though.

Top 5 Clara outfits? And top 5 DW episodes you watch for comfort?

okay so the first question is very difficult but let me try my best (in no particular order):

the Time Heist suit unlocked a special level of gay in my teenage self

the Magician's Apprentice/Witch's Familiar outfit is so iconic to me and the dress was the first screen-accurate Clara piece i ever got my hands on (still have it)

the Zygon Invasion/Inversion outfit is iconic and even though we mostly saw Bonnie wear it, it's so fucking slay and that episode made me have very impure thoughts as a teenager so i'm including it

this Time of the Doctor/Deep Breath slay is the quintessential Clara outfit for me tbh. it's so perfect i love it so much and it was the first outfit of hers that i cosplayed as a lil baby whovian 🫶

aaaand i'll have to round it out with her little diner uniform from Hell Bent because it's precious and sparks joy 🫶

now onto your second question... bold of you to assume this show gives me comfort and not emotional damage (/j) but...

The Snowmen is my #1 of all time, i own it on DVD and i watch it several times a year. one time i watched it 5 times in the month of November alone. i can quote all of it from memory and it makes me happy stim even though it's so sad at the end 🫶

Vampires in Venice is just wholesome fun wrapped up in camp, i love vampires and fashion and the plot is absolutely ridiculous but it's so much fun to watch anyway

The Bells of St John is like a beam of serotonin directly into my brain, it is so cute and fun and sweet and silly and it's our Clara's first proper episode and it's a brilliant introduction to her character and my wifi password absolutely is rycbar123 thank you for asking

The Crimson Horror is on the list bc i love the one (1) episode per season where the Doctor and companion/s actually dress in period-accurate clothing, i love the aesthetics of the Victorian era and the mystery/horror aspects of the episode, we get to see the Paternoster Gang again, there's a disabled woman enacting vengeance on her abusers (🫶), and we get to hear Eleven's stupid little Yorkshire accent which always makes me smile

Robot of Sherwood because again, just silly fun and antics and period costumes and the indomitable human spirit and you asked about comfort so obviously they're mostly gonna be Clara eps despite how much i truly truly love the rest of the reboot i promise

in complete fairness, i didn't have access to watch the show for a good chunk of the last 5 years, so most of what i rewatched was the Clara era that we had taped on our TV, and i've only just recently been rewatching the entire reboot again for maybe the third time overall?? so my opinions are definitely coloured by how hard i fixated on the Clara era lmao
