wc: 5.0k
notes: FINALLY WROTE A HEIZOU FIC FOR THE FUNSIES đ«¶đ» i love him so much you guys!! also disclaimer!! some spoilers from the residence are mentioned, and . . . kissyfreak heizou đđ»ââïžââĄïžđđ»ââïžââĄïžđđ»ââïžââĄïž you have been warned!! and also also also. new writing style/longest fic iâve posted so far??? zamn
I.Â
âAre you even watching?â
As the seventh episode of The Residence nears its end, you turn away from the television and glance at the burgundy-haired man behind you. Instead of his eyes focusing on the screens, his piercing green eyes are staring directly at you.
The two of you are in bed together. With you on his lap, and his arms wrapped around you.Â
Murder mystery nights have become a bonding activity after numerous stressful days at work. Both of you love to indulge in genres like this; Heizou likes to sharpen his mindâsince heâs so obsessed with puzzles and suchâand you love the thrill in learning more about unfamiliar cases, even if they do hurt your brain sometimes.Â
âOf course I am,â Heizou says, as he tilts his head innocently. âWhat makes you think Iâm not?â
You recall the times he has kissed your shoulder, cheek, and temple the whole time the characters, Cordelia Cupp and Harry Hollinger, talked. âIf this is one of your strategies to lose my focus again. . .â You start, narrowing your eyes at him. âI paid attention to this episode. It wonât work.â
Heizou tilts his head more, a lopsided smile appearing on those lips of his. âWhat wonât work? Iâm justââ Lips make contact on your shoulder again, and your heart flutters. ââmm, admiring my sunshine. Nothing too unusual, donât you think?â
There is an urge to push him away. But there is also an urge to pull him closer.Â
âDo you even know whatâs happening in Episode 7 right now?âÂ
âWell, if you must know, Miss Cordelia Cupp returns to the US and investigates the engineer and the maid.â He replies, and your eyes catch his lips slowly curving into a smirk. He presses another fleeting kiss on your skin. âBut it makes me wonder. Why ask me? You did say you were paying attention.â
âHey now, youâre twisting my wordsââ
âMhm, and since you did ask what is happening in Episode 7, here, we learn from the detectiveâs interrogation that the engineer and the maid are in love with each other.â
âHeizouââ
âAnd now, Detective Cupp is about to piece the whole thing together. Sheâs processing all the information sheâs gathered - which will soon bring us to the next and final episode. The conclusion. Who, out of all the staff members inside the White House, killed AB Wynter?â
At that, the episode ends, making you blink in surprise. As your lips part open, it proceeds to the credit scene.Â
You can hear Heizou chuckling from behind. Of course he is. He digs his chin gently on your shoulder and tightens his hold on you.
âSo? Did you think I wasnât watching? I summarized the episode well enough, âno?â Heizou questions. As he comes closer to your ear, his voice lowers. âHate to break it to you, but I can adore you and watch The Residence at the same time. Itâs a feat Iâve mastered these past few series, you see?â
He chuckles again when you donât respond immediately. Youâre always so speechless when it comes to him. Instead, your next course of action is this: you let your cheeks heat up, like a sore loser, while he triumphantly celebrates his win by swaying his body.
He always wins when it comes to these. Be it solving mysteries, making and proving a point, or riling you up. You merely turn to the television again and pick up the remote, turning it off.Â
âOh? Are we not gonna watch the finale anymore?â
âIt can wait,â You tell him, though youâre aware that Heizou is being smug as always. Man is always one step ahead, you know that. You poke on his forehead. âLet that mind of yours rest for a bit.â
âBut itâs always active.â
âYeah, yeah. But let's talk about something else,â you begin. No more The Residence-related questions because heâs always going to have an answer anyway. You dip your head and assess the blanket bundled on your legs. âLetâs talk about tomorrow.â
âTomorrow?â
âWell. You.â You fiddle with your thumbs, unsure why youâre nervous to bring the following topic up. Or maybe you actually know why. âYouâre going to meet mom. For the first time.â
âMhm-mm.âÂ
âAnd, um - Iâm sorry you had to meet my mom for the first time like this.â You remark, finally glancing at him with a weak smile. âI know we talked about this, like meeting the parents and all that. We had a plan and everything, with dinner andââ
âShh, itâs no problem,â Heizou is quick to reassure you, his voice softening. It coaxes your apprehensive heart. His hand reaches for yours thatâs placed on your thigh, and both of your fingers intertwine automatically. âIâm still happy enough that Iâll be meeting her. It is long overdue, after all.â
âRight.â
âAnd hmm? My intuition tells me that you are overthinking things, again.â With that, you feel your cheeks heating up once more, due to the fact that he has caught you in the act. Is it really that obvious? âItâll be fine, my love. You have nothing to worry about.â
You frown, âThere are still instances where everything might get wrong.â
âStubborn as always,â He comments, and his other hand reaches out to your cheek, slightly squeezing it. âYet there are also instances where everything might get alright.â
âBut stillââ
âBut still. . . oh, no! Negative thoughts are about to be executed because three, two, one,â His lips collide with yours, and well, safe to say, his technique worked.Â
II.Â
On the way to your childhood home, Heizou from the passenger seat retains his charming smirk.
âItâs funny how you really are more worried than me. Iâm meeting the âparentâ, not you.â
âStill.â
From your peripheral, you can sense how Heizou shortens the distance between the two of you.Â
âDo I need to kiss you again?â âH-Heizou, Iâm driving.â
III.
So this is how it happens: the door opens, and your mom, whoâs all smiles (thankfully), takes the two of you to the living room. Memories of running children for Onikabuto battles, early Christmases, and true crime binges on the TV come flashing in your mind. Oh, whereâd all the time go?
You break out of your reminiscence when Heizou finally speaks beside you.
âOh? I thought weâd be meeting with your mother tonight. I didnât know weâd meet up with your sister instead. Actually, you had a sister?â
Score. This makes your mother laugh so loudly in delight that she covers her lips with her fingers. âOh, you! Itâs me.â
You watch as Heizou gasps, though itâs evident in your eyes how heâs clearly on an act. No way he hasnât noticed that in front of him was your mother, when you already showed her pictures to him. You just playfully roll your eyes, with your lips threatening into a small smile.
âMan alive. You must be kidding, you look so young!â
But then again, Heizou is a detective, so he knows his way with people due to his experiences. So another point for him. Your mother seems to be enjoying Heizouâs presence so far, so this melts a bit of your anxiety.Â
âMy daughter is right, you are indeed charming. She talks so much about you!â
Because of that exposure, your eyes go wide. âMom, no need to mentionââ
âIs that so?â Heizou has his eyebrow lifted, and his hand placed on one hip. Thereâs no denying that he is going to tease you about this later, when you can see that small smirk making its appearance again to those soft lips of his.
So you immediately change the topic to prevent any further elaboration. âAnyway! Childhood home? Burglary?â But with a weak interjection.
Heizou just snickers. He faces your mother properly again. âMadam, itâs an honor to finally meet you.â He offers his hand, and shakes hands with your mother. âIâm a huge fan of your early workâtalking about this wonderful lady right here.â
And your mother is even more amused.
IV.
âOkay, so they did enter through the broken window, rifled through the drawers, andââ Heizou hums, and gestures toward the picture frame he sees. He grabs it, and presents it to you and your mother. ââmy tiny sweet, summer sunshine, in her tiny dress, holding a tiny seelie plush?â
âHeizou,â you call out to him, your cheeks heating up again. âWhat are you doing?â
âThatâs the very first of her plushies,â Your mother points out, and you canât help but be even more stunned. Sheâs entertaining him, and also calling out your mountain of plushies in your bedroom. âShe wouldnât let go of it to the point that she brought it to her daycare. It was practically glued at her side.â
Heizou coos at your younger selfâs image ( âis that so?â ), and your heart skips a beat at the sight. That kind of Heizou is not different to the Heizou when you are both alone together.
You cough, trying to push away those affectionate Heizou thoughts. âIf - if you must know, thatâs one of the original seelies before production stopped five years ago.â Then, you narrow your eyes at him. âContinue on with the investigation, Detective Heizou.â
He just smiles at you, and doesnât forget to wink. âCopy that. Anyway, the alarm company said that the break-in happened at around 7:30. Did anybody know that you were out at that time?â âPeople who were with me at Hexenzirkel.â Your mother answers.
Sensing Heizouâs confusion, you elaborate, âItâs a wine club. Mom frequents it every now and then.â
âHow classy of you, Madam.â
Then, your mother gasps lightly. âOh, I just remembered. Aliceâs vacation house was also broken into several months ago.â
âAlice? One of the main members of Hexenzirkel? Thatâs interesting,â you claim. âHer vacation house is not too far from here. . . so really, thatâs interesting.â
âIt is. The odds of that happening are small. There are no coincidences,â Heizou states, and he puts on his signature pose - his thinking pose, where he taps on the side of his forehead. âYet my intuition tells me that Iâll have to look furthermore inside the Hexenzirkel. I may go undercover at the next wine club meeting to see if Iâll get any leads. Madam, think you can get me in?â
âI think I can arrange that, thereâs one after three days.â
âGreat. I have one final question.â Prepared for anymore, you brace yourself. But nothing can ever prepare you when Heizou suddenly reveals a project of yours back in high school. Itâs your diorama created in clay. Where, when, and how did he even get that?! âIs this her concept of utopia for her social sciences class? Why did it only have a 95 score? Iâll rate this a hundred. Not only because sheâs the love of my life, but the fact that there are lots of dogs.â
Your mother giggles, endeared. âShe loves dogs.âÂ
V.
âSometimes, my daughterâs a bit oblivious.â
âTell me about it. Before we dated, everytime weâre in the car, I always blasted Taylor Swiftâs You Belong With Me, and she still didnât notice! She thought I was just a big fan of Swift.â
( âI am right here,â you say in the background, while pouring yourself a cup of juice. )
âAre you a fan of Taylor Swift?â âOf course. She makes good songs. Reputationâs my favorite album.âÂ
VI.Â
While your mom excused herself to answer a phone call, you find Heizou wandering in the living room and examining other picture frames displayed on the wallâpictures of your family, pictures of achievements, and pictures of treasured memories. You approach him with a cup of juice. âWhy am I not surprised youâre close with Mom now?â He accepts the juice and whispers a tender thank you. âWell, Moms love me.â
âRight.â
He takes one sip. âBut itâs the truth.â
âRight.â
He grins again. âOh, come here, you.â Then hooks his finger under your collar, and pulls you closer.
VII.Â
As Heizou resumes with his investigation, you also cannot help it but also roam around the house. This house has gotten smaller.Â
Or maybe you have just gotten bigger?
You can pick up conversations from your mother and Heizou about the stolen jewelry, and as you get farther, it becomes more of a whisper.
You manage to arrive at your destination after climbing up the creaky wooden stairs. After inserting the key inside and twisting the doorknob, you slowly push the door open, revealing a small bedroom that contains flashbacks of cousins huddled around the floor to watch a crappy horror movie, sweaty friends from high school sharing the craziest gossip while munching on cheap Good Hunter takeouts, and stressful nights in college where coffee became your only company.
You step forwardâand suddenly, your mind is pushed back into the previous months.
VIII.
The stars finally aligned. Inside your favorite coffee shop waits two brilliant and beautiful ladies; Navia Caspar and Kuki Shinobu in the flesh. The sight of them had your heart swell from nostalgia, and sharing an embrace with them after so many years had healed something inside of you.
It was a well-deserved reunion, and you all deserved updates.
âFinally, you have a boyfie!â Navia smiled at Heizou sitting beside you, after you told them how the two of you finally became official. She let her chin rest between her fingers. âMy, our friend group will surely explode once we inform them of this.â
âTotally. Charlotte and Ayaka would pry for more details.â Shinobu crossed her arms. Though she wore a face mask, you knew that she was also just as happy as Navia was. âI remember how you used to talk about your âfuture boyfriendâ whenever you were stressed about finals.â
You raised your hands sheepishly. âOh, we donât need to dwell into thatââ
But Shinobu didnât seem to be listening. Instead, she looked at Heizou. âShe really waited for you for a long time, you know. There were a lot of complaints about your delay. She was always wondering whatâs taking you so long.â
Navia giggled, âAnd I quote â God, if this is the reason why I still donât have a boyfriend, then the wait better be worth it!â
You pouted at Navia. âHey now! Thatâs a bad impersonation of me!â
âBut my words were right! And I quote again, years later â God, I really want to kiss Heizouâs moles. A lot. And this was during her crushing stage on you.â
Your face heated up at that. âNavia!!âÂ
And as the girls chortled in glee because of your reactions ( âThis is supposed to be a sweet reunion, not a âteasing-me-reunion!â ), you failed to notice the burgundy-haired manâs gaze on you, with his arm perched on the desk to support the hand that was carrying the side of his face. His cheek rested on his palm, and he couldnât stop smiling. He murmured, âIs that so?â
( Later, when Heizou excused himself to the bathroom, the ladies informed you that your man had been staring at you so lovingly the whole day you told them about your major life updates. âSo anyway, I got promotedââ âHe was so fixated on you.â âWhat? Uh. Well, itâs because Iâm talking?â âNo, itâs because heâs smitten!â )
IX.
âThe archons had their own reasons why they didnât give you Heizou when you were in law school.â
âWhy? Because I was a red flag?â
âThat, and instead of studying civil code, you might study his body instead.â
You almost dropped your coffee. âCome on, Yanfei, not you, too!â
X.
Heizou heard a knock on the door of his office. Without looking up from his paper, he answered it with a âcome in.â
A familiar doushin appeared from the doorway, and mentioned a homemade lunch. Said doushin put it on his desk, and asked, âShe always takes a lot of effort to visit you, sir. But she always refrains from coming inside. Is she scared of criminals?â
âNo, sheâs not,â Heizou replied, still not removing his gaze away from the files. âShe just doesnât want to see me here.â
âWhy not?â
Heizou peeked at your homemade cooking. âFor safety measures.â He crossed his arms and looked at the puzzled doushin. âYou see, I have this bad habit of not letting go of my paramour.â
âSo were you guys the reason why Madam Kujou issued a ban on public displays of affection orâŠ?âÂ
XI.
Heizou spots you, inside your childhood bedroom, reading notebooks. You are sitting in one of the bean bag chairs, and you havenât addressed his presence yet. Heâs not sure if youâre completely ignoring him or if you just didnât notice him.
When he nudges your shoulder, you flinch a little - so there goes his answer. âOh. Hi. Did mom get another call again?â
âUnfortunately. Sheâs a busy woman, huh?â
âYeah.â
His eyes scour around. âHowâs this room? Nothing got stolen here?â
âNope, everythingâs all good in here,â You reveal to him. âMom had my room screwed shut after I moved out, so.â
âI see. And what are you reading?â He scans the ragged notebook in your hands, and leans closer. On the front cover, he catches your full name above the word SCIENCE. âMissing your high school days?â
âKind of,â You turn back to the pages. âI was just impressed by how wordy I can get with essays. Canât believe I was so passionate about climate changeâlook at this title: eat the rich? Come on.â
âYou still are, though,â Heizou points out in mirth, and pulls a bean bag chair closer to you. He sits on it and remembers an intoxicated you cursing out how unfair it was that the global south is taking all the blame for global warming. âMay I take a look?â
You puff your cheeks out, and Heizou resists to kiss you again. âThey suck, though.â
âPretty please?â
âFine.â You hand him your notebook, and Heizou happily studies it. Heizou can recognize how youâre a little worried again, with the way you are scratching your cheek and averting your gaze.Â
He stomps down on his resistance this time and pecks your templeâcreating a loud smack. This makes you glow a beautiful red again. âThank you.â
The quiet âŠyouâre welcome is worth hundreds of thousands of mora.
As he skims through the pages, his brain already works on keywords. The handwritten notes in the first few pages are all neat and organized, and the following are rushed and are overlapping lines. He can discern from this that the high school you were dedicated to making notes for environmental science in the beginning, but got too lazy in the middle and the end.
He bites his lips to prevent himself from grinning. Just check page 97-100 about ecosystems and biodiversity, is written in red.Â
And wow, you got good marks from your essays. Impressive. But heâs not surprised that you already have a lot to say at a young age. ( You do observe quite well, even if youâre quite dense sometimes. )
âAlso, I would like to apologize,â Heizou says, and closes your notebook. He clarifies when you hum questionably. âMy behavior, I mean. I donât mean to overstep any boundaries. I mightâve made you uncomfortable when I asked your mother about your younger years.â
Heâs genuine and sincere. The last thing he really wants is to make you uneasy with his own interrogations, especially at a place like this. Although the more he spends time inside your bedroom, the more his urge to scrutinize every nook and cranny intensifies. The room smells like you, and all the trinkets, clothing, posters, and letters that he has seen here â oh, he wants to drown himself in it.Â
Everything in here has a story to tell. There are lives that youâve lived when he wasnât still a major character in those plotlines, and he wants to know them all. What were you like back then? What shaped the wonderful and beautiful you of today?Â
No matter. Once he learns them all, heâll embrace and still love those versions of you.
( Based on the amount of pictures pinned on the corkboard, Heizou can deduce that you really love your friends. He can ascertain that some friends have stayed, some friends have gone. The friends who keep on making cameos are the ones that are truly loyal and have the fortunate blessing to have witnessed every growth of your character.
Mhm. Heâs doing it again.Â
So he shakes his head and focuses on you properly. )
âItâs fine.â You tell him.Â
âAre you sure?â
Itâs your turn to reach out to him, to do the reassuring, and to hold his hand. Automatically, his hand curls with yours. âYes. Itâs just. . . embarrassing. I had an embarrassing childhood.â
âBecause you were a troublemaker? Itâs not embarrassing to be young, eat dirt, and serve it to your parents, my sweet, summer sunshine.â
âHow did you evenâyou know what, Iâm not gonna ask. Itâs because of that photo in the living room, doesnât it?â
He smiles, very much endeared. âYes.â
You groan. âRight. Iâm gonna ask Mom to put that back down. Anyway, as I was saying, Iâm already used to this. Every time my friends come visit for the first time, theyâre always like this. Like Shinobu and Navia. Especially Navia! She saw one picture of me back in elementary school, and kept on asking for a copy.â
Oh. That intrigues him. âAnd what, pray tell, was that picture?âÂ
Your eyes drift away from him, and suddenly, your pillow is the most interesting thing in the world. âNothing too important.â
His intuition itches. âOh, but I think it is important.â
âReally. Itâs nothing.â
Again, his intuition begs to differ, and the fact that itâs supported by the sight of your reddening cheeks. But he decides to drop it, even though he really wants to know. âOkay then.â He turns to the left, and detects a piece of material on your bookshelves that piques his interest. âSo. . . does this mean I have your permission to look around?â
âYeah.â
XII.
âMan alive. The famous Journal Number 3 from Gravity Falls? And you say Iâm the nerd in the relationship.â
âBecause you are? And hey, it was just a phase! Gravity Falls was good, so.â
âIt is a classic. Hey, can I kiss you again? Iâm so attracted to you right now.â
XIII.
âThe famous mountain of plushies.â Heizou bows to the plethora of stuffed plushies meticulously arranged in your bed. âGreetings, I would like to introduce myself. The nameâs Shikanoin Heizou. Thank you for being there whenever she sleeps or whenever she cries.â
He stands up properly and smiles widely. âIâll be taking it from here.â Then, he turns to your astounded self. âSo, what are their names?â
XIV.
âSo, yeah. Thatâs pretty much what happened. We thought that she just wanted a casual night of drinking, but the sudden transaction for hard liquor shouldâve been the first warning sign.âÂ
Chevreuse said from the other line, her voice filling up the speakers of Heizouâs phone. It was currently 1 am in the morning, and inside Heizouâs apartment was an intoxicated you murmuring reclusion perpetua or objection every now and then.
You have your head laying on Heizouâs lap. You were in his living room, specifically your body was draped on his sofaâthe sofa that he rarely used because he was always out. While conversing with Chevreuse to recount what had happened earlier at the bar, he had his fingers stroking your hair.
âI see. Thanks, Chevreuse. I think thatâs all I need to know.â
âGotcha. Itâs a good thing she was with me or you know, it couldâve been a disaster.â
Heizou sighed, âI know.â
âAnyway, letâs end this. I still have to take care of some matters. On behalf of our friend group, Iâd like to thank you as well for taking care of our adorable, grumpy, and very stubborn friend.â
He nodded, even if Chevreuse couldnât see his face. âItâs no problem.â Then, with a playful smile, he sighed again. âAll this and yet she still doesnât notice.â
She guffawed, âRelax, loverboy. Give her time. I know how much love you have there in that big, big heart of yours, but trust me, youâll be able to flood her with that very soon.â
When the phone call ended, Heizou gently tossed his phone aside and returned to tend to you. He didnât stop running his fingers through your hair in a slow and steady motion, since he noticed how this soothed the very sleepy and drunk you.
âAiyaya, what would I do with you? You couldâve told me that you were stressed with work you know. Itâs your first year on the job. I understand how frustrating it can get at times, and Iâm always one call away.â He said, and recalled those times where youâd always send him a thumbs up whenever he asked how you were doing. Perfectly fine, youâd exclaim, even though his intuition doubted you.
He should have pressed further when he saw how your eyebags grew bigger and hair became messier. âYou didnât have to keep it all in.â
Of course, you didnât answer. It was still occasional law jargon and other random rambles he couldnât quite understand, so he just chuckled to himself. You were always, always, and always so endearing to him.Â
Then, you shifted. Heizou halted his movements for a bit, and then you turned to his side, giving him a full glimpse of your snoozing and flushed face.
And you were always, always, and always so beautiful. Even if you were a drunken mess on his lap.
Man alive. You have the Detective Shikanoin Heizou wrapped around your finger. How crazy is that? This could be an inciting incident of a romantic novel.
It was really unfortunate that despite having the talent to perceive, comprehend, and discern information in a short amount of time, your greatest weakness was sensing other peopleâs romantic feelings for you. Especially his. How could you not notice, really?
Or maybe you do, you were just not expressing it. ( Youâre also one tough puzzle to crack. )
Heizou was out in the field when he received that text message. Captain Kujou would definitely scold him if he was caught slacking on the job, but hey. It was worth it when you told him that you missed him. Even if they were keyboard smashes. Even if it seemed as if you were under the influence of alcohol.
Heizou resumed his caresses again.Â
He leaned closer to your snoring self. âI miss you, too.â
XV.
After doing a thorough investigation in your living room, Heizou plans to report this back at the precinct to make it official. You watch as he finishes his conversation with the forensics, before making his way to you. You usher him to follow you in the kitchen.
âSince the living room is a crime scene for now, I advise your mother to stay somewhere else first.â Heizou says in a professional tone, and you smile at him. âWhat?â
âItâs nothing, De-tec-tive,â you answer, and he crosses his arms when he realizes. âShe can stay in my apartment. She favors my loveseat, so sheâll have no qualms. I think she'll be busy with the new figurines Iâve bought for her. Yes, my mother wants and has many things. Sheâs a maximalist.â
âJust like my sweet, summer sunshine who also happens to have the tendency to collect.â He raises a brow, and his smirk makes its entrance again. âBut really now, PokĂ©mon?â
You flush a bright red. âYou got a problem with that?! Arcanineââ The biggest plushie you have in your bedâ âis the manager of my bedroom. Send him an official complaint if you have something to say.âÂ
As usual, Heizou will entertain your whims. âOh, I donât have any complaints. Instead, I might even send him a letter, since we did bond over our love for you. And also the fact that you are obsessed with chocolate chip cookies. Are you still obsessed with cookies?â
You challenge him by lifting your head. âTake a guess.â
Then, he puts his hand below his chin, pondering. âSince you always smell like freshly baked bread every Tuesday, Itâs safe to assume that you do.â Then, he flicks his fingers. âMaybe you go to the bakery near your apartment to purchase some, hm?â
Bingo. You put a hand on your forehead. âNote to self: you canât hide anything. From your detective boyfriend. At all.â
Heizou takes the hand from your forehead, and kisses it. âAnd I appreciate that.â He kisses your palm. âI trust you as much as you trust me.â
Then, he kisses that forehead of yours, and blood rushes in your heart, making it pound erratically. âSo I hope you donât have to hide anything from me.â
And finally, on the lips. âOkay?â
You feel like youâre about to short-circuit, but you respond anyway. ââŠOkay.â
âGood.â
He has his eyes closed when he smiles widely. âThough itâs still adorable how PokĂ©mon have been important in a significant time in your life. You wore a Pikachu onesie in your thesis defense?â
XVI.
On the way home, Heizou is still the passenger princess, so his role is to keep on talking and talking. And he also has full rights to your aux cord, even though you are the driver of the car.
So not only are you listening to Taylor Swiftâs Call It What You Want, but also to your boyfriendâs calming voice.
âThere was a long piece of paper peeking out from the drawer. I didnât get to see it properly. What was it?â
âAh, that? It was the bill of rights. I was so determined to memorize Article III of the Constitution to prove to my teacher that I can memorize them all.â You maneuver the wheel to the left, and the car moves to the left. âAnd that was even before I was a law student. I was such a competitive but also dumb high school kid.â
âOh? Did he not believe that you can?â
âNo, actually. He was one of my teachers who actually really believed in me. But he liked challenging me and was always yapping about not to âwaste my potential,â so.â
âYou memorized them all.â
âOf course,â You claim, and you fail to notice Heizouâs intense gaze. âIt took a lot of tears, but I did it. I wouldâve given up if only it werenât for Yanfeiâs tips and Shinobuâs lavender melons.â
And after a minute of dead air from your usually chatty man, you briefly glance at him in concern. âHeizouâŠ? You good?â
âSay, how would you react if I said that I really want to kiss you right now?â
Your heart skips a beat. âH-Heizou, again, Iâm drivingââ
âActually, mm, no. Letâs make out. Think you can stop the car?â
âHeizou, weâre on the highway?!â
âOh, I see a service area. Drive there.â
âHeizouââ
XVII.
âMy sweet, summer sunshine, are you even watching?â
Heizou asks, with you on his lap again. As the final episode of The Residence nears its end, you quickly cover your reddening face. âOf course I am.â Though your voice is muffled, Heizou understands you anyway. âWhat makes you think Iâm not?â
Heizou chuckles, and kisses that one spot on your neck he made yesterday. He takes pride in seeing the other marks and thinks that he should make more, since some of them are fading away.Â
âOh, I donât know â maybe my being admiring you is distracting you. Are you distracted, my sweet, summer sunshine?â
âN-no.â
âIs that so? But you are stammering. Sounds like you really are distracted. By your thoughts.â
You know where heâs leading with this. âYou donât have toââ
âMan alive, it appears that my beloved really is distracted! What to do? What to do? I know!â He cups both of your cheeks. âThoughts are about to be shut away in three, two, oneââ
And Heizou locks his lips with yours.

You donât own fanfics. Theyâre inherently public domain because they arenât your IP. Agree or disagree with AI, there are no grounds for âprotectionâ from AI because it isnât your IP to begin with. Thatâs what you chose when you chose this medium
Oh dear.
Okay, you get an answer, because at least you took the effort to write your ask out properly, even if you are hiding behind the grey, sunglassed circle.
Do I, or any fanfic author for that matter, have any legal claims to our work? No, not really, no. (Although if someone took a fic, filed off the serial number--deleted the fandom specific elements--, and then had it published for financial gain, yeah, that would be a case.)
BUT
Fandoms are built on a social contract that says we respect each others work, the effort people put into their art. We don't steal or disrespect the work of our peers. By feeding people's fanworks to AI you both steal and disprect it, and we need to make people realize that before it's too late--before fandom falls apart, because there will be no more real, actual fanworks.
Disrepectfully,
Orlissa
(i can't believe I have to say this)

Are you đ«” pissed off about the Lilo and Stitch monstrosity remake? Do you want to know how you can actually make a difference in supporting the people and ecosystems of Hawaii?
Tourism is a big issue in Hawaii (which the remake got rid of the original's commentary on because it makes foreigners look bad). I'm not gonna promote it, BUT I know that realistically, thousands of people arrive here every single day by the airplane-ful. And the majority of them aren't educated on the socio-cultural and economic impacts of tourism. SO, I'm making this post in an effort to educate visitors. If you or someone you know is visiting or moving to Hawaii (whether by circumstances in or out of your control), here are some suggestions on how you can give back!
You can donate to the Hawaii Community Foundation, which has been instrumental in giving aid to the displaced community of Lahaina after the Maui wildfires in 2023. They also provide scholarships to students of under-represented communities.
If you're interested in visiting Kualoa Ranch, you can do their MÄlama Experience where you get your hands dirty giving back to the âÄina (land)!
There are other organizations you can join to volunteer with, too, like Kupu and MÄlama Maunalua. Check them out; maybe you can help with a beach cleanup or plant native trees! These are both non-profit organizations that accept monetary donations.
Visit the Bishop Museum to learn about Hawaiian history and culture! They also have events focused on sustainability and conservation.
If you're visiting Hilo on the Big Island, go visit the Laulima Nature Center! They're a non-profit aimed at protecting Hawaii's native species, and they even have an online store that ships to the US mainland and internationally! (After I post this, I'm gonna head on over and get myself a manu o KĆ« pin âĄ)
A few other tips I have:
DO: Respect the locals' homes. Several beaches and hiking trails have access points in residential areas. Please be mindful to keep your voices down when passing by, and park ONLY in designated parking areas.
DO: Wear reef-safe sunscreen! Sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate are banned in Hawaii because they are known to damage coral reefs.
DON'T: Approach wildlife, particularly honu (sea turtles) and 'īlio holo i ka uaua (Hawaiian monk seals). Stay at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from turtles and at least 50 feet (15 meters) away from monk seals. If you see someone harassing animals, report them to the statewide NOAA Marine Wildlife Hotline: (888) 256-9840. You can also contact the Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources.
DON'T: Collect sand, rocks, or other natural items to bring home with you. This is to protect the ecosystems and also out of respect for KÄnaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians), who have cultural beliefs regarding lava rocks in particular. Taking lava rocks is extremely disrespectful.
DON'T: Litter! Please throw away your waste in proper trash cans. If you see a bin that says "Ê»Ćpala," that's a trash can!
Many KÄnaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) are moving to the US mainland because the cost of living in Hawaii has been driven up so high (because of people moving here), they can't afford to live in their ancestral home. So, if you are going to visit or move to Hawaii, please:
- Make the effort to support local businesses, especially those owned by Native Hawaiians!
- Educate yourself and your loved ones about actual Hawaiian culture!
- Try Hawaiian food, like poi!
- Learn some Hawaiian words and don't be afraid to ask how to pronounce words correctly!
- Donate to a food bank!
- Watch films and read books written by Native Hawaiians!
My hope is that whoever sees this post will use it to educate themselves, their friends, and their families who are considering visiting.
My background is in sustainability and the environment, so that's what I know to suggest off the top of my head. If any KÄnaka Maoli read this post and have suggestions to add, please do!
