Favorite style? That’s hard 😭 but I am absolutely loving 90s elevated street style bc it just looks so good and is honestly so fun! I also think it’s great this time of year with the leather jackets and baggier jeans. BUT i do have an appreciation for ALL style- i am a HUGE fashion lover and don’t really have much of a style myself bc i wear everything 😅

Favorite holiday would probably be Halloween or Christmas bc my family has always taken those super seriously and we LOVE Nightmare Before Christmas. I just love the vibes of both holidays and I love how much people decorate for them (i like to look at other houses)

In this installment I mostly focus on decorating for Christmas since that’s the holiday I personally celebrate. But if you go in for something different these boys have totally got you, one hundred percent 💖

Headcanon || WC: ~1.1k

🌟 Dick’s a huge fan of winter in general, not least of all because of the holidays.

🌟 As I stated before, Christmas is his favorite holiday of all time, but if that’s not your bag he’s really down for whatever. He just wants to spend this time with you and the rest of his loved ones.

If you celebrate something other than Christmas he’s gonna want to know all about it. Will definitely insist on sitting down and having you tell him all about your holiday of choice and any customs and personal traditions that come along with it. He’ll be so stoked to implement them into your personal celebrations.

If you don’t celebrate anything at all he’ll want to know why. Not in a judge-y, or prying way, he’s just genuinely curious! Given how much he loves just about every holiday, he can’t imagine not celebrating anything at all. Still he’ll respect your decision on matters, as always.

🌟 Regardless of what you do or don’t celebrate, it’s gonna be hard to pull him away from Christmas completely as it’s the holiday he personally grew up celebrating—not that you should want to, I’d think.

Compromise is the word of the day, kiddos, and he certainly has no problems with combining holidays/customs.

It may result in things looking a bit odd to outsiders, but it’ll be your normal, and honestly he really loves it?

Seeing your lives/cultures/backgrounds intertwined in a way that’s specific to you as a couple/family just leaves his heart feeling so damn full that he may legit burst this time, lol…

Now if you don’t celebrate at all, things will get a bit tricky because this is his favorite holiday. He’s gonna want to decorate at least a little, and you’re gonna be subjected to his terribly hummed renditions of various holiday classics (or mans can’t hold a note, sorry, lmfao), but he won’t go any further than that if it makes you uncomfortable.

But if even that much bothers you expect to have a long talk about things. He can’t stand the thought of his baby hurting in any capacity, and clearly there’s trauma there. He’s gonna want to get to the root of that thing one way or another, so if you don’t feel comfortable talking to him about it he’s gonna insist that you talk to someone—be it another loved one or a professional.

He’s not trying to be pushy, but Dick is v. much a fixer. He understands that nothing heals overnight, but so long as you’re working towards that end he’ll be happy.

🌟 Decorating is always a given with this man.

Tbh he probably started trying to decorate things right after Thanksgiving lmao.

Will legit do it at the start of the month, if you’re down. Yes, your house will totally be that one spot that goes from “Spooky Scary Skeletons” to “Jingle Bell Rock” in less than 24 hours, just like a gd supermarket lol.

He’s so the one to have a Christmas tree in damn near every room if you let him. He realizes how excessive this is, but… Look. He just really loves the aesthetic, okay?

And he’s got all these ideas for themes, and ornaments were on sale so really he’s saving you money by buying them now, and since you have them you might as well use them, yeah? Otherwise you’re wasting money and that’s never a good thing, esp. during the holiday season!

🌟 He’s… not exactly indecisive about themes, but rather he’s super enthusiastic about them.

If you do let him place multiple Christmas trees throughout your home he’s more than likely gonna want them each to have their own vibe.

Themed rooms? Themed rooms.

You’ll have A Charlie Brown Christmas type beat in the foyer (complete with that sad lil struggle tree lol), a more classic aesthetic in the living room, a ‘Silver Bells’ theme for the dining room, etc.

If you force him to pick, however, he’s definitely gonna go with something a bit more modern. Definitely likes his trends, so whatever’s hot that holiday season will probably be what he’ll go for (unless he’s feeling nostalgic in which case he’ll go with something a bit more traditional).

🌟 The general vibe is kinda lit, ngl.

He’s armed with several Spotify playlists (only one of which is holiday themed) and he’s not afraid to use them lol.

It’s probably gonna take you a few days to get through with everything because you’ll spend more time dancing/cuddling/making-out than you will actually decorating.

What? It’s not his fault you look so damn good with stray bits of tinsel and faux snow stuck to you. (He’s a hands-y mf, but we been knew.)

🌟 He doesn’t really have a go-to aesthetic as he finds something to love in just about any theme. This can lead to a rather hodgepodge result unless you step in and make him settle on something.

Tho it should also be said that he’s a sucker for homemade decorations. Quality doesn’t matter to him at all. You made it so it’s automatically ✨~wonderful~✨

‼ And omg—if y’all have kids. Bruh.

Look me in the eye and tell me that he won’t dedicate a whole ass tree to just the ornaments your kids make, I dare you.

Makes such a huge deal out of it too. World’s best hype-dad, he’ll gas the kids all the way up when they come home wielding a crudely cut out generic holiday bell. He’ll hold it up Lion King style and sing out a litany of praises, totally not caring that he’s getting glitter all over his hands (and the rest of the house, god help you all lmao).

He’ll call you over so that you can see what your amazingly talented baby has made before scooping the kid up so that they can place their creation on the tree.

Uggghhhh. Having a family with this nerd would be so fucking adorable, I cannot…

You have several questions, in fact, and nearly all of them are some variation of why, with a few when’s and how’s sprinkled in for flavor.

You look from Dick to the gaudily decorated slide that’s currently displayed on your TV’s screen, and back again with an expression that leaves him snickering. You’re able to hold your composure for all of two seconds before you too give over to your mirth.

“Yes! I got you to smiling, so that’s half the battle won.”

Well, he’s not wrong, but still—“Babe, that is… a lot. I know you love decorating, but the cleanup–”

“If you’d ju–”

He gives you The Look then—the one that sees his pretty eyes fluttering and his full lips pulling off into a sad, near quivering little moue—but years of being on the receiving end of that potent pout has allowed you to build up an immunity. Sort of. You won’t be giving in to the whole of his ridiculous requests (dope though the Nightmare bit may be), but the trees…

He knows he’s going to get his way when you open your arms to him with a sigh, though it’d be foolish of him to think there won’t be a negotiation phase. Even so he’s all smiles when he comes to flop on top of you to talk terms. It takes longer than you’d like to convince him that having a tree in the kitchen area would be redundant given your home’s open concept layout, and the better part of an hour after that to nail down a theme, but the warmth that blooms in your chest as you go back and forth on color palettes—the same one that syrups through the indigo eyes that stare back at you—makes it all worth it.

🌟 Day 8: Movie Nights with the (Bat)Boys™, Pt. 1 || Watching Holiday Specials

Movie nights are an all-day event with him, ngl.

Mans will legit take off of work and beg out of his nightly duties as well if that’s what it takes to get your schedules to sync up.

Some people might say that he’s doing the most, but those people would be wrong and should really mind their own business, tbh.

Ketut responds to the other small animatronic��s nod, her paws clasping one another both gratefully and excitedly. “ Oh bats! Thank you, pumpkin! You’re a holiday-saver! ” She says as she patiently watches Balloon Boy head off to fetch the goods.

It’s. Only. March.

When he returns, it’s clear that that the black kitten is all giddy despite still patiently waiting, of course just having it hard to contain her excitement, her multi-jointed tail held upright with only the tip (the very last joint) swishing a little, the cat-equivalent of a dog’s wagging tail. When she sees the balloons… well, if her robotic eyeballs could actually fully function like a real cat’s, you can bet her pupils would dilate into big round ones that’d take over nearly all of her irises, but you could still have an exact idea of when that behavior would have flicked a gear in her mind.

Her tail goes still but still pointing upright and she overall stays still in her spot for a moment, her little grin sloooowly growing wider and wider, her tiny little fangs shining, as she takes in the quality of the balloons before her. Yes, yes, they were exceptionally ghoulish. Their deflated state doesn’t seem to deter her excitement at all.

“ Oh bats… Those… are PURRRRRRRRFECT!! ”

That wasn’t a fully intentional cat pun; Ketut was indeed so excited she couldn’t help the paper-shredding purr that came out as she tried to say the word “perfect.”

“ Yeah they’re deflated, but there’s an extra helium tank in Parts & Services and I’m SO going to put it to GREAT use! That’s gotta teach those sillystrings from staff that they cannot oppress or stop the spirit of Halloween! ”

“ NYA HAH HAH HAH!! ”

She lets out a comically “nefarious” cackle, the kind you’d see coming from a villain in a kid’s cartoon while it’s clear their villainy is merely aesthetic, while it still matched her feline theme. She even had her head draw back and her paws up in the air as she cackled, its noise promising mischief and determination in the name of Halloween.

Once Ketut’s wave of excitement calms a little, her eyes are back on Balloon Boy, fanged grin still present.

“ Thank you again, pumpkin! Me and the spirit of Halloween owe you one! ”

[Truth be told, Balloon Boy didn't care that Halloween was several months away -- in fact, that only made the cat's shenanigans that much more appealing! The kid-shaped animatronic adored chaotic little pranks like this; decorating the restaurant for a holiday that wouldn't be coming anytime soon sounded like tons of fun, and since it involved his favorite thing in the world ( balloons ), he couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of it! He'd finally be putting his beloved collection to use, and he'd be "sticking it to the man" while he was at it. Talk about a purr-fect plan!]

[Well...aside from the fact that his treasured spooky balloons from last year's Halloween celebrations had since deflated. They were in pristine condition aside from that, thankfully, so if they could find a way to INflate them...everything should be all set! Balloons were all she needed, right? They were the most integral part of party decorations, after all! They put the "part" in part-y!]

[As he held out the balloons to Ketut, he eyed her excitedly, hoping they would be up to her expectations ( despite their current condition ). Much to his delight, she appeared elated as she glanced over his selections, even calling them PURR-FECT -- "purr" and all! This was gonna be great! If he had her approval, then there was no stopping them now! Balloon Boy technically hadn't been designated as her accomplice in the matter, but he'd practically already joined her in his head -- he was bursting at the seams with enthusiasm, already picturing how fun it would be to decorate the restaurant together and laugh in the face of staff when they inevitably got furious. This was what he lived for!]

[Balloon Boy's eyes sparkled with child-like glee at the mention of an extra helium tank within the building -- he made a mental note of it for future use. What good were spare balloons if they were gonna be deflated all the time? This was life-changing information! Ketut was brilliant! He couldn't have picked a better teammate ( though, technically, she'd picked him...but shhh ).]

❝ HA HA HA! ❞ [Ketut cackled, and so Balloon Boy chimed in with one of his signature laughs, trying to make it sound as sinister as possible ( though that was difficult when all of his pre-recorded lines sounded exactly the same ). He was doing his best to show his support for the cause, okay?]

[Finally, she calmed down a bit, but her words certainly didn't sound like those of a future accomplice. Maybe she didn't realize that they were officially in this together? But...oh, no. Balloon Boy didn't have any dialogue that would make it blatantly obvious that he wanted to join in on the fun. Shoot. Time to play a game of charades.]

[The kid animatronic innocently nodded, then pointed at himself insistently ( with the hand that was still holding a plastic balloon ), giving her the biggest doe eyes possible -- his way of pleading with her.]

What patb episodes to you recommend to watch?

Short answer: all of them

Long answer: 

The first episode Das Mouse I think is legit very good and has an interesting vibe compared to the other eps. I think the jokes are good so def start with the first ep.

Likewise, the second ep Of Mouse and Man is also very funny. Brain gets a job. That’s the premise. It’s great.

That Smarts is one of my favorite eps. Brain thinks if he makes Pinky smarter it will solve all his problems. It does not. (I have big love for this ep because Pinky remains virtually unchanged, to the extent that Brain didn’t think it worked at first. He’s still him, and he still maintains his verbal tics, he’s just able to do advanced math now. I think that ep could have gone very differently and I like that it didn’t!)

A Pinky and The Brain Christmas because...well, if you haven’t seen it by now go watch it. It’s so sweet.

Snowball. Featuring...Snowball! I LOVE this character. He’s terrible. Like Brain on steroids. Just the absolute worst. Obsessed with him.

The Third Mouse for no reason other than I think it’s really funny. I don’t think people talk about this one a lot because nothing happens to affect greater canon, it’s just Pinky searching for Brain in post WWII Vienna and everyone tries to tell him he’s dead and he has no idea wtf they’re talking about. Just being a menace to everyone around him. 

The Pink Candidate, Pinky becomes president. It’s actually a very good ep.

Welcome To The Jungle. Pinky and Brain get lost in the jungle. The have an interesting power dynamic swap when it turns out Pinky is the better survivalist and Brain is pretty much useless. Also Snowball is here!

Megalomaniacs Anonymous. If not the best episode in the series, then it sure is up there in the running. Brain realizes his obsession with world domination is hurting himself as well as Pinky and joins a support group. I end up citing this one all the time for character analysis. It’s really good!

Brinky. They accidentally have a kid, Romy. It’s called Brinky. I can’t believe this is real.

Brain Noir. We get an appearance from both Snowball and Billie in this one and I think that makes it fun. 

This Old Mouse. Brain is able to look into the future and sees that he never accomplishes his goal. This episode is one of the best imo. The jokes all hit and it’s interesting and cute! 

A Pinky and The Brain Halloween. It’s a great holiday episode. They have a run in with the devil and Pinky sells his soul to give Brain the world. But without Pinky (er...I mean food pellets), Brain just isn’t satisfied. Up there with the Christmas episode. Really feels-y.

Leggo My Ego. We get a Brain backstory! (one of many) But it’s done very well.

Broadway Malady. Brain wants to get his musical off the ground, but Pinky’s is more popular. A cute and funny episode.

Once you reassure him your fine he offers to walk you home

You get to your house and that’s when you and Kuroo realize that you both live in the same neighborhood 😳

After that day it became a habit for you and Kuroo to walk to and from school together

Requested: by anon, omg its HALLOWEEN TIME YAYAYYAYYY!!! ok so idk if youve alr done smthg like this but what ab like theres a halloween party and everyones going but steve ditches cuz reader isnt going cuz she has homework to do and instead he shows up at her house w a bunch of candy and waits for her to finish so they can watch a scary movie or smthg? hehee i love ur fics sm love ur legit the only thing keeping me sane😭❤️❤️❤️

Halloween may have been your favorite holiday but it was nothing compared to school and the amount of tests you needed to take in the following week. In fact you were pretty sure it was a record amount of tests. You were annoyed but you needed to finish it. You were responsible. You needed to finish it. You kept repeating that over and over to yourself as you sat on your bed, watching the kids go trick or treating outside your window. You let out a sigh. Even Steve was out there somewhere. At the party presumably, wearing a couples costume without the other half of the couple. Your Lydia costume mocked you as it laid down on your bed. You wondered what Steve’s Beetlejuice costume looked like. He’d probably show you later. 

You wondered how the Halloween party was going. Hopefully well.

You focused back on your notes and there was another doorbell ring. Your parents opened the door downstairs and you wished you were handing out candy to the kids. Your mind kept wandering. It was Halloween afterall. 

There was a knock on your bedroom door and you stood up, expecting your mom checking on you. You opened the door and was very pleased to see Steve on the other side, wearing his Beetlejuice suit.

“Man Lydia, where the heck is your costume?” he questioned.

“I told you Steve, I have homework to do,” you said solemnly.

“Nay,” he said draamtically, “I am here to help. I thought I heard my name said three times, was that you?” 

“Not that I checked,” you laughed. He shrugged.

“I brought candy just let me in,” he said and shoved past you. He sat down on your bed like he owned the place and to be honest he probably spent the same amount of time there that you did. You walked inside the room further and shut the door behind you.

“What are you doing here? Didn’t Tommy throw a party?” you questioned. He shrugged.

“I went for a bit but it was boring without you there. I figured I’d come over and we could watch some scary movies or something,” he said. “With candy.”

“I have to finish this,” you said, gesturing to the many stacks of papers on your bed. He looked around and shrugged.

“I’ll put on Friday the 13th and we can do them togehter. Come on, I am not about to let you get away with not having a Halloween just because you’re more responsible than I am,” he pouted. You sat on the bed back in the spot you had been and shrugged.

“Fine. Just this once. And dont’t try anything, just because Kevin Bacon can do it in the movie does not mean that you can,” you told him. He nodded happily and stood up, grabbing the Friday the 13th VHS from his bag. He popped it inside of the player in your room and took off his costume, swapping it for a more comfortable outfit. 

Eventually he was sitting back beside you, a smile on his face as he picked up one of the papers and the beginning of the movie started.

“Alright what are we doing?” he asked. You took one of the candies from his  large bowl of them and started to unwrap it.

“Chem. Did you steal these?” 

“No I did not, they’re from my house.” Your eyes went wide.

“Are these trick or treaters candy?” you asked, agahst. 

“No it’s leftovers my mom hides for after Halloween. I promise, you are not stealing any kids candy,” he said. You nodded and happily took a bite of the snickers. Steve looked at a few of the papers,probably realizing you were in an advanced class and he had barely passed bio.

“I’ll try my best here but-” he started but you cut him off.

“I can do it. It shouldn’t take me much longer than thirty minutes,” you promised. He nodded, happy to slide out of homework when he could barely do his own. You looked over at him, his floppy hair and all as he focused on the movie. He turned his head to you after a minute and gave you a charming smile.

“What?” 

“Thank you for coming Steve,” you muttered.

“Of course. I wasn’t about to leave you hanging,” he said happily. You nodded and ate another piece of candy.

“I’m gonna finish this so that we can watch the movie,” you said and now that you had an end goal you seemed to work much faster.

Halloween Special: The Shut-In!

           So, this episode is SUPPOSED to be canon, I believe? Or the idea is that within the episode itself, the events take place after the Plantars return to Wartwood, but otherwise it isn’t canon? I’m not sure, I’ll have to go check. Either way…

           This was a REALLY fun, and surprisingly freaky episode, especially towards the end! I love the darker, pragmatic take on Halloween for Amphibia, and how the holiday is interpreted in this world as more of a doomsday preparation sort of thing, this show’s worldbuilding is always so fun. Let me tell you, I lost my mind when I saw human Sprig, Polly, Maddie, and Toadie! Is the implication that Toadie is actually, like, around the kids’ ages this entire time? That makes people shipping him and Mayor Toadstool, uh… VERY, er… But at the same time, I can see why everyone thought he was an adult- So an honest mistake and thus no harm done! And come to think of it, Polly seems to be about the same age as Sprig here. So, the ages may not necessarily match… But then come to think of it, it IS weird that the writers/animators chose to give Toadie a humansona, and not say, Ivy! Actually, Toadie is rather minor and feels oddly specific considering who else was excluded, so I have to wonder if there was some particular reason for this, of if the writers just felt like it?

           Anyhow, the humanized versions of our frog friends are adorable, Sprig and Polly are gingers, no surprise there, and the bucket over Polly’s foot is so cute! I love how Anne didn’t even TRY to change who she was, she legit just tied up her hair and that’s it. Her story was a fun premise, and I expected the video to actually be a jumpscare that pulls in its victims at the last moment. And I mean, sort of? It definitely takes a while for that Video Cat demon thing to arrive… But I loved Anne in this bit, how she’s so smug and proud of herself and really doesn’t want to care what others say about her skills, you go girl! You go write dialogue! And I just realized, but this is possibly the closest look we have to Anne’s actual home and bedroom, assuming things haven’t been changed up all that much in the ‘bootleg’ translation… So F-Annes, analyze!

           That Video Cat being unable to take criticism and literally dying to it is a mood. Also, either its eggs ARE boba, and/or they just taste like it… Either way, keep in mind that Molly legit took a huge bite out of one. Then again, more feral things have happened in Amphibia and ESPECIALLY with Polly, so I guess I’m not too shocked- Look at Anne, she wanted to eat that monster crab that almost killed Sylvia way back when! Are those cats invincible because they’re bound to no videos, or are they subject to regular criticism in general… Can they also be physically killed as well?

           WHY am I even asking, when we know this isn’t canon whatsoever and is never going to come up again!? Anne insists that this happened to her phone specifically, so I guess the gag is that the phone had a previous owner named Anna, etc…. Still, while it’s funny how Anne just gets away with completely making up a story, I do have to wonder if it’s like. Allegorical to a real-life experience. Probably not, given the presence of humanized Sprig, Polly, Maddie, and Toadie… Unless Anne is recounting something that happened in Amphibia, but then Sprig and Polly would’ve recognized what Anne is alluding to, given how they remembered those other past adventures (which was a hilarious gag that I felt nostalgic to recognize). I’m probably just overthinking it.

           Then, we’ve got Hop Pop’s story! He had LUSCIOUS locks, and he met the Grim Reaper- Again, allegedly. Not gonna lie I assumed that dude was Frog Lucifer or something, but this is kind of better? Either way that was pretty dark, and I love the implication that the Grim Reaper legit went out of his way to steal some rando’s hair. Poor Hop Pop, he never got his hair back! Are we going to call this canon? Does this confirm the presence of a Frog Grim Reaper?

           (Side-note, I feel bad for Wally! Imagine being born on a day where everyone has to be holed up lest they turn into Were-Amphibians! That must’ve been quite the scandal for the Ribbiton family, I have to wonder if this influenced his decision to go out and live his own life with how lonely Wally was…)

           Then we have Sprig’s story! I’m so happy to see Ivy again, I never realized how much I missed her and her adorable design, and her hair is so cute! Kind of reminds me of Anne with how wild it is, I want to see a one-shot of Anne bonding with Ivy over their messy hair now. I really appreciate that gag of Sprig realizing what Ivy’s about to say, about how everyone has knitting needles, and Ivy breaking down that door without remorse. This story was my favorite, not just for the comedy, but also…

           DANG, that was legitimately terrifying?!When I saw those slimy frog skins, knowing those were actual people, with Hop Pop even suggesting one of them could’ve been Gary… and YIKES, what happens to the flayed bodies?!? Legit I freaked out when I saw the Seamstress, this was straight-up Leather Face, the show wasn’t even trying to be subtleor dodge around it, those were actual people skins! This was some Wartwood Chainsaw Massacre…! Seeing all of those hanging skins and faces gave me the heebie-jeebies, I didn’t expect the show to go THIS far, and while I’m impressed and glad it managed to freak me out, still! That build up to the reveal of Ivy literally ripping off that ‘face’, us seeing a glimpse of the Seamstress before her skins fall off, and it looks like she lacks any skin entirely, and that’s why she wears others’!

           Only, she DOES have skin, it’s just clear- Fun fact, I watched this with my brother and he immediately recognized the Seamstress as a Glass Frog, by name, before Sprig did! I think it was a neat gag how for Sprig, he immediately calms down because for Amphibians, Glass Frogs are a somewhat normal and non-supernatural facet of life, relatively speaking. For us humans, well, it reminds me of this one myth about a woman whose head can rise from her body, unveiling her organs…

           I THOUGHT the episode was going to go the sweet route, even as I joked that the Seamstress still, y’know, KILLED people. And like Apothecary Gary, the show remembered this and we legit had the Seamstress burn to death in a classic horror movie finale, and I yelled when she made one last stand to grab Ivy by the leg and bite her! I get that there’s meant to be an allegory between Ivy not appreciating her own hair, and the Seamstress not appreciating her own skin, body positivity and all that- But mostly I was too freaked out to appreciate it. Ivy waddling around blindly in present-time was adorable, though.

           And, Polly! I LOVE the sort of lesson, the realization that her being gone was scarier than ANY story they’d heard that night (probably because this was real, at least I assume the other stories were fake but regardless). We get our twist of Polly turning into a Were-Tadpole, and then anticlimactically reacting while the others lose their minds as noises of ruckus are heard, implying that Polly immediately went feral afterwards, or the others just made a mess as they freaked out! Also, love the twist on the ending credits, that’s delightfully morbid…

           All in all, this was a great episode! Surprisingly scary, and definitely hilarious- It’s a much-needed break from this Amphibia hiatus, especially now that I’m also dealing with the hiatus for The Owl House and Infinity Train (the latter of whom may be permanent PLEASE watch the show on HBO Max), and Kipo’s ending. I do have Carmen Sandiego’s third season to watch, though. I wonder if there’s any speculation to be gleaned from the Blue Moon turning people into monsters, and how that can connect to Blue Energy for the Calamity Box relating to the virtue of Heart. Does the Blue Moon turn people into a monstrous form that reflects the darker sides/fears of their heart? I’m probably overthinking it. Either way, I’m really glad we got a classic Holiday Episode for this show- I always love those, ESPECIALLY Halloween ones!

1. Probably not. I be using my cells flashlight and screaming around every corner cause I'm a legit scardey cat.

2. I really love all of spooky season but probably the most is about it is that it is just a fun holiday. It's not like christmas where there is alot of obligations.

3. Oh my goodness i love any of them. That unsolved mysteries show from the early 90s was my ritual Friday night for years, edge of my seat with fascination.

4. I used to be really scared of the dark but now I love it. Now I can't sleep whenever there is any light.

5. Yes I do! You can be talking to me and yell Boo, I will jump and scream.

6. Probably a dog. I'm a dog person although I love all animals. (Except for monkeys and apes)

7. I had to really think about this. But I do recall a memory and asked my best friend about it earlier. We were 16 or 17 at the time, I guess we had taken her Ouija board to a cemetery near her house and tried. But tbh we were probably both tipsy and I doubt anything happened.

8. Lowkey, I have never been one for crowds. Now a friend's get together Halloween party I would be down for.

Under the Mistletoe

It’s that time of year, so here is the Christmas Special you all deserve for my absence since a month ago & for the few days past Xmas that I didn’t have a charger! I hope you all have a Merry Christmas (or whatever tickles your fancy!) and a Happy New Year!

Jason

The Tree: 

You’ve got the widest array of large evergreen trees right in your front yard, so when you hear a large thump at your front door, that’s just Jason and the biggest tree you’ve ever seen. If you focus one the bottom half of the tree, he’ll get the top, and once the two of you are finished, he’ll raise you up so the both of you can put the star where it belongs!

The Baking:

Boy oh boy does this boy love to bake with you. Mainly focused on the decorating, the frosting, the sprinkles, and everything in between, you better hope you have enough baking sheets to fulfill the hundreds of sugar coated Christmas cookies Jason wants to make with you.

The Mistletoe:

A blushing madman whenever you happen to catch him under it. Of course, he’ll never deny a kiss from you, but it just makes him to soft and warm inside. Eventually, he’ll build up the courage to drag you over to the mistletoe and give you a dedicated kiss.

Michael

The Tree:

Like Jason, save the top of the tree for Michael to decorate, if you have one. He probably won’t go out of his way to buy you a tree or even hack you one down, but will make due with whatever his mother left up in the attic. You’ve got plenty of halloween decorations to put on the tree though...

The Baking:

Michael, baking? You’ve got a long day ahead of you. Good luck trying to get him to stay put to help with anything let alone him actually knowing what the fuck he’s doing. If you need any cookies or goodies cut up or diced, he’s your man. But you’ll notice cookies here and there missing from the dish every once in a while.

The Mistletoe:

Avoids it like the plague. Will purposefully walk the long way to avoid walking from under it. You’ll have to put it some where sneaky, like right in the back door and catch him when he walks in. Even then, he’ll give a defeated sigh and eventually give in, picking you up and letting you smother him.

Bubba

The Tree:

Yes! Yes! Yes! Get this boy in the decorating and party planning committee! It’s something nice for the two of you to do and boy does he love decorating. While most of the ornaments mights be bone fragments and other... spare parts, he’s pretty proud of the outcome. But just wait until he gets ahold of the tinsel. It’ll be draped across everything.

The Baking:

Don’t fret about not having any ingredients for yummy treats, everything you could ever imagine is here! And of course, so is Bubba. Decorating and topping off all of the cookies and treats is his favorite part, and he’s going to eventually make his own batch by himself all for you!

The Mistletoe:

It’s hung in  e v e r y  door frame, and he knows when you walk under one, no matter how quiet you’re walking.

Thomas

The Tree:

He’s always wanted a legit Christmas, but with Hoyt being such a grinch, he never has the chance. But Thomas finds everything about the traditions you show him to be so wonderful. The tree decorating is by far his favorite, even if there isn’t much to hang. Why don’t you both make some!

The Baking:

Oh, you’ve got Luda Mae tickled right to death. It’s one thing that she’s happy to have some time with Tommy to bake, but another to have you helping and shutting down Hoyt’s grouchy ass any time he walks into the kitchen. Thomas might walk out with a few flour prints on his behind, but it’s worth it.

The Mistletoe:

Personally puts it in the door to your bedroom. While he thought about the door to the basement, Hoyt tends to stand there a lot.... and no thanks. So at least now it’s a special place for the two of you to have to yourself!

Billy & Stu

The Tree:

Billy and Stu are definitely the type to get lazy and leave their tree up all year round, but when they do get the chance to decorate, each of you have a different job. Stu gets the lights, Billy on tinsel, and you on ornaments. But you know, most of the lights will end up being wrapped around all three of you, Good luck getting out of that.

The Baking:

Anything that happens in the kitchen turns into a food fight, wet or dry. Christmas music blaring and food flying across like a battlefield. Whatever the three of you end up baking never last a few days either way. From you and Billy taking a few at a time to Stu stuffing them in his pockets, good luck saving any for guests.

The Mistletoe:

Billy typically leave it with one hanging from the most walked through doorway, snaking his arms around your hips from time to time, while Stu always seems to have some stashed in his back pocket. Pucker up buttercup!

Norman

The Tree:

While every suit has their own tiny, simple tree, Norman can’t wait to put up the massive one him and his mother had. It takes a while to fully decorate, especially with some older Christmas music on and the occasional slow dance break the two of you have!

The Baking:

Norman is a decent baker, so he lets you take the lead. Watching over you and taking note of how you make things so he can too. Maybe make a few extra for guests at the front desk? They’ll get a few of the test cookies that don’t come out too good.

The Mistletoe:

Half of the time, he doesn’t notice himself picking through the mail, standing right below the damn thing when you pull him down for a kiss. The stupidest grin sliding across his face as he tries to compose himself.

Hannibal

The Tree:

If Hannibal had it his way, he really wouldn’t decorate that much of his house for the holiday, but if you want to, be his guest! Big tree, little tree, flashy lights, no lights, anything at all and he’s bound to have it up and ready for you to decorate the next day!

The Baking:

He’s more of a cook, but isn’t opposed to doing anything in the kitchen with you. Mainly for when he grabs and puts away things for you. It’s not that he doesn’t think that you can’t put them away, but he’ll just do it. Keep it organized. Besides, you made wonderfully flavorful treats for him to snack on when no one is watching!

The Mistletoe:

Hannibal is, however, very strict in his mistletoe rules. Anytime you walk under it, you MUST kiss him and vise versa. Those things are something that he’ll never overlook in a holiday.

Amanda

The Tree:

She wasn’t too into the idea of all of the decorations and lights, finding herself too busy to do anything, but that would change. It’s pretty therapeutic when she finally gives in to your pleading, especially once the two of you are all done and she can step back and look at something beautiful she’s contributed to. 

The Baking:

Also... not really the biggest fan of baking, but doesn’t mind helping you every once in a while when you need it. Put on some music and maybe she’ll consider icing anything. But she’ll have her hands in the cookies jar from time to time.  

The Mistletoe:

Doesn’t really avoid it all the time, but doesn’t really pay too much attention to it. She loves all of the attention you give her, but won’t ever make it out as though she wants it. She’s gotta keep up that tough girl look! Save the kisses for when the two of you are alone!

Bishop

The Tree:

A tree? Well, he’s never really had a personal one for his lab nor has ever really... participated in Christmas, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t open to celebrating it with you! Bishop fancies the tree the most, wiring up a few lights here and there turns into the whole ship being covered in flashy red and green lights. Thanks Bishop.

The Baking:

Uhm.. not really his strong suit. He’s wired to know basic recipes from rations and what the had, but that didn’t mean that he was particularly good at it. He’s up for learning, of course, so he can retain the information, though! Although, he feels bad he has no benefit to eating what you’ve made, but he’ll force the crew mates to eat them.

The Mistletoe:

Just one hung up is good enough, one in the doorway to his lab. A lot of people walk through there, but the only one he’s concerned about it you.

Nick

The Tree:

He’s such a dad. I mean, just look at him and how he acts. Nick’s like a kid when it comes to decorating and will stay up all night covering the entire house in anything Christmasy he can get his hands on. He’s got the matching ugly sweaters for the two of you to wear while he absolutely destroys the tree in tinsel.

The Baking:

He doesn’t care what you have plans for making, he’s going to eat it and cover it in any frosting he can find. Nick isn’t the worst baker, but he has fun while doing it, so thats what counts. Even when he takes some to Ward he’s got a goofy smile on his face while talking to that grinch.

The Mistletoe:

Arthur

The Tree:

Arthur has the best time doing just about anything with you, no matter what it is. While the two of you might not have the room for the biggest tree, Arthur makes up for it in enthusiasm. It’s simple decoration, but that doesn’t mean it’s not enough!

The Baking:

Arthur’s got some room for improvement. The days of TV dinners and messy dishes are over, so lets get to baking! It makes him feel like a kid again, and boy doesn’t it feel a bit nice to not have a care in the world for a while. The two of you are bound to leave the kitchen with frosting and icing on your faces, but what’s the fun in clean cooking?

The Mistletoe:

He’s a bit bashful just about every time he even looks at the mistletoe hanging there, thinking about how much you really love him. Even a part of him wishing that you really did, that hopefully none of this was a dream, but if it was, he never wants to wake up. But for now, just come and kiss him!

Barbara & Adam

The Tree:

Even in the afterlife, they’ve still kept up all of the decorating and celebrating for the holidays. It something the three of you can do, even Lydia as well! The tree is the greatest asset of it all, only the biggest evergreen sat right in the corner of the living room. Don’t even get me started on how many ornaments they have.

The Baking:

Thats something Barbara takes pride in with you, Adam will just sneak in from time to time and snatch a cookie until one of you catches him and shoos him back into the basement. Barbara has just about every cookie cutter you can imagine, so don’t be afraid to have her bust them out of the cabinets for you.

The Mistletoe:

Those two will be under the mistletoe for hours, going back and forth, laughing and smiling at each other like teenagers. You and Lydia can’t help but just watch and laugh at them, rolling your eyes like you would at your parents. Eventually, when they’re done, the three of you can have your time under the Mistletoe 2.0 (that ones for hugging)!

- on the ride home percy is a little quiet but he has a sense of happiness and can’t really put it into words, and patroclus holds percy’s tiny little hand and tells him that they’re all gonna be a family and tells him how lucky he & achilles feel that they have a beautiful joy in their life and perseus smiles and achilles is driving and trying not to cry bc he can see how beautiful a son perseus is going to be and how beautiful a dad patroclus already is

- now. patroclus would be the kind, soft, warm, empathetic, semi-strict parent who always gives the best advice, wants there to be a two way street of trust, honesty, and respect and he is such a soft dad and achilles would be the fun, wild card, dorky dad who protects his child with a fervor and relates to perseus & is very loving just like patroclus and is Iike the best friend dad, and the entire time they’re both so loving to percy & sometimes patroclus is rolling his eyes playfully and is like “i’m raising TWO kids” after perseus & achilles have blue paint on themselves after making an art project for patroclus that he looks at & admires and tears up at while putting it on the wall :’)

- percy calls them lily & pat sometimes and they call him perse, perseus, and cici <3

- they all like to celebrate the holidays and they give each other valentine’s day cards and patrochilles put a stuffed animal, his favorite candy, and some lil extra presents on percy’s bed after he comes from school. on halloween they dress percy up like a lil guppy and pat has his pumpkin costume and achilles w his greek god costume & they all go trick or treating and both percy & achilles ask for candy while pat is just chastising achilles and telling him “you better share w perseus” hehe and on christmas it’s filled w love, laughter, cheer, & tons of presents on all sides :’) percy gives them homemade drawings and the sweetest cards and patrochilles give him a photo framed of all three of them + their golden retriever puppy chiron, a polaroid, and a certificate saying that they adopted a baby seal in perseus’ name <3

- they keep every little card that they give each other and they have scrapbooks and albums and they want to carry these memories forever :’) and omg when it’s percy’s bday it is simply WILD! fast forward a couple years later it’s so much fun and they eat cake and have a great summer picnic outside w all of percy’s friends and yes everyone is checking achilles & patroclus out bc they’re valid and they all have such a grand ol’ time :’) annabeth, jason, frank, hazel, and will talk to patroclus a lot and piper, leo, nico, reyna, and thalia talk to achilles a lot and they all intermingle and percy is just so happy that everyone is getting along and they all tell him that his dads are the coolest and so kind and funny and he feels a rush of pride

- also patrochilles are DILFs. no i will not elaborate and i will not allow someone to disagree with me. they’re DILFs and it’s time to accept it and honor it (achilles a proud DILF, patroclus rolling his eyes while blushing when he gets called that)

- fast forward to many years later and perseus has went through his awkward pre-teen years in which he talked to patroclus all about it bc he could relate and achilles was there to provide moral support bc even if he didn’t go through it he wants his son to know that everything he felt was valid and completely normal! now that percy has grown into his own he still knows that he can talk to them about his feelings but he also has a feeling of confidence in him

- i also think that every demigod has adhd so achilles can relate to perseus on that and patroclus helps perseus w his dyslexia and will stay up into the late hours of the night helping him with homework while achilles cuts up some fruit & figs for them to eat and he gives them both kisses and moral support and many needed breaks & snacks

- also fun fact a book percy has to read is by the infamous sally jackson who is literally patroclus’ favorite writer of ALL time and he’s so hype and he has written sally multiple times and is in correspondence with her and one time he was like “you should come by” and sally says “ofc!” and she ends up doing just that, she comes by their apartment and pat is Shook and mixing up his words and all that can come out is “i Love book” and achilles has to translate everything he says and perseus tells her how much he admires her writing and how the hell did she come up w the idea of gods & demigods and how did she have prose so beautiful while speaking of them? and sally just winks and percy smiles and feels like he understands :’) towards the end sally leaves and made sure to sign all of pat’s books and gives them a bust of poseidon who is her favorite god & he nearly passes out and she gives perseus a trident necklace that he will wear forever bc he knows it means something to her and for some reason, it means something to him too

- and LISTEN! perseus has grown into his own and is absolutely beautiful! he has bright green eyes and a lil eyebrow slit that he accidentally got while playing in the park in which patrochilles were so afraid but kept it together after patroclus patched him up, he is tan & tall w jet black hair with a deep & melodic voice, and he has the empathy, kindness, leadership, strength, wisdom, and badassery that was innate/instilled in him by his wonderful parents. patroclus the entire time is like damn those demigod genes!!!! making my baby boy look like a model just like his father smh what about me!!!! and achilles is like babe you’re gorgeous and perseus is like yeah dad you’re great

- and achilles and patroclus do a double take bc the entire time leading up to this percy never really called them dad he just called them nicknames or petnames and all of sudden the dam breaks and everyone is crying and hugging and achilles and patroclus both give percy the biggest kiss on either side of his cheek and percy’s face is being Squished but he doesn’t mind bc he can feel their love :’)

- and lemme tell y’all something achilles had a feeling his baby boy was a demigod after seeing all those monsters and creatures and patroclus could always see through the mist and growing up they wanted him to have a normal life, but achilles wanted percy to be able to protect himself so he taught percy how to fight & patroclus taught him stuff that he learned from medical school and how to patch himself/others up & percy is very well versed in all aspects and is very grateful for this

- percy is a troublemaker and sarcastic little shit who loves to curse and he really gets that from achilles & he is also sensitive, warm, empathetic and in touch with his emotions and he gets that from patroclus and he is the true lovechild of both of those dorks

Guess who’s back, back again

So, yeah, haven’t been sharing in a long ass time. I just have felt the need to practice on my own and just kind of keep it to myself for a while. That’s one explanation, anyway. Another, possibly more accurate one, is that i am still practicing but the spells and the readings have been pretty vanilla. Nothing fun or exciting to share.

So, Becky, what’s changed? Why share now? I’m glad you asked! So I was scrolling through my favorite witchy shitposting group when someone mentioned a haunted reading. I’m like wtf is a haunted reading? And like every other time i stumble across something i don’t know, i go straight to Google and search it up. Still don’t know what a haunted reading is, but whatever, it was more of a side note for how i got to my reading. Anyway, the first thing i click on was the haunted tarot spread. And let me tell you, things got spooky, and definitely not in a fun way. But like a necessary way.

Ok here’s the spread i found:

So i figure this sounds fun, I’m still dealing with my anxiety and depression and maybe giving names to the shit bogging me down could help? I figured it would go much like all my readings have been doing lately, asking questions i already know the answers to, getting the answers i already expected. Yeah, no, didn’t go like that at all.

So i used my literary witches Oracle deck because it was my haunted reading and this deck seems spooky to me. Honestly, the deck is really hit or miss, so I had next to no expectations. However, the reading kind of freaked me out because the answers were all true, and not one of them had i thought of.

So what follows me and how to leave it behind are the top left 2 cards. Tbh i had to think about it because i couldn’t make the connection. At first I thought the flowers represented youth/spring something along those lines but it didn’t fit. So i moved on to the the skull, which seemed pretty obvious, let it die. Then i realized the flowers were for a grave, my grandma’s death, over 8 years later, still is a heavy one. How to leave it behind, stop trying to resurrect her in everything i do, let her Rest In Peace.

Ok, 3 & 4 what troubles me and how to resolve it? This one came quick, growing old troubles me, how to resolve it? Slow down. Easy, thanks!

5&6 what keeps me up at night, and how to rest easy. So to me this is calling out my late night thoughts, as frogs are most vocal at night, so too are my thoughts loudest as I’m lying in bed. And the teacup made me laugh as i have been using tea to relax my mind enough for bed at night.

7&8 this one actually freaked me out. Like legit gave me goosebumps and scared the shit out of me. Honestly, it’s not a topic i even allow myself to think about. What frightened me, love, that’s totally and completely true. How to face it is the doll, it’s calling me out to finally figure out a way to come to terms with whatever happened to me as a kid.

CW: child abuse, loss of memories

So I can’t remember anything prior to the age of 11, but it’s spotty until maybe my freshman year of high school. Obviously something happened to me to make me repress that many memories. Part of me has always wondered if i was abused as a child. To see those cards together gave a voice to something i have spent a lot of time burying very deep.

Maybe it is time to try to figure it all out. I had this nightmare once that still hurts to think about. My daughter and i are at a mall or something, it’s the holidays i think, and she’s running around in her pajamas. She finally gets where i can’t find her, and yet i know where she is at the same time. So i frantically begin making my way up to what looks like an attic door, like a half door looking thing in a wall the shape of a roof. Idk but a man comes out of the door, and i feel sick to my stomach because i know my daughter is in there. I open the door and it’s me as a little girl in Christmas jammies and I’m crushed, I’m sickened, I’m devastated, and i start screaming at the man and running at him. I want to kill him but i can’t and i can just scream in anguish.

It was one of the most upsetting dreams I’ve ever had. And maybe the closest I’ll ever get to figuring out what happened to me.

So anyway, it was a super creepy and upsetting tarot card reading that i needed to share because it was way too much to keep to myself. None of the answers were what i was expecting, and yeah, gave me loads to think about.

Smokey brand Movie Reviews: Holiday Season

Had an opportunity to sit down and really take in this adaptions of one of my favorite stories in the batman lore, Batman: The Long Halloween part One. This story is one of the most influential in all of comics and, indeed, is constantly referenced by any modern live action Bat-flick. The Dark Knight, arguable the best of the many Batman films, is basically just this narrative. It’s literally just The Long Halloween so seeing the graphic novel properly adapted, with all of it’s twists and turns, is something I've always wanted. Now that’s it’s here, how does it hold up?

The Good

I love this art style. It smacks of Batman: The Animated Series but with a modern polish, while paying homage to the surreal pen of Art Sale. One of the reasons i fell in over with the graphic novel was Sale’s almost psychotic rendition of Gotham, it’s many characters, and his use of shadow. None of that unique flair is lost on this production, even if it’s kind of tightened up at points. Like, take Catwoman. I loved Tim Sale’s take, the purple suit is kind of the Selina i grew up with, but I'd be lying if i said i didn’t enjoyed the version of her in this film even more.

I just mentioned this but i need to emphasize how at home this feels in the BTAS universe. It’s a like a adult version of an episode from that show. That should lend a bit of credibility to the quality on hand. Part One is pg-13, and you really feel that, but Part Two is supposed to be R. I’m looking forward to seeing how hard they go because the back half of this narrative gets real bloody, real fast.

I have to admit, the animation is pretty okay. Most of the time. It can fall of the cliff occasionally but, for the most part, it’s some of the best in these Animated DC films. The use of CG is beautifully integrated into the hand drawn bits and it really puts Invincible to shame that way. People were praising that show for how awesome it looked but i was never impressed. I wasn’t that impressed with Halloween either but it was still better than Amazon’s production.

I have to say, this voice cast is legit. There are some real hitters in this and they really deliver.  Jensen Ackles is a surprisingly decent Batman, which is kind of hilarious to me, because he plays Jason Todd in my favorite of these animated flicks, Under the Red Hood. Naya Rivera is outstanding as Catwoman and Troy Baker is absolutely the next Joker, after Hamill decides to retire. Always a pleasure seeing Josh Duhamel and his Harvey Dent is a seething ball of rage, teetering on the edge of madness while Titus Welliver’s Carmine Falcone is just f*cking insidious. Billy Burke, Julie Nathanson, Jack Quaid, and Alastair Duncan, are all great in their respective roles but, holy sh*t, did David Dastmalchian’s Calendar Man give off Hannibal vibes! Great choice on that one, for sure!

I just have to emphasize just how much i enjoy this version of Catwoman. Naya breathes this character and her loss is a real tragedy.

I absolutely love this narrative so there wasn’t a question I'd gravitate toward a cinematic adaption but, i have to say, i was a little surprised by how tight this bad boy is. Like, the script, itself, is really good for something based on a comic book. I can see this thing being a proper live action adaption and being considered almost as great as the best of the Bat-flicks.

I’m just really glad this exists. The Long Halloween is one of the best, one of the quintessential, Batman narratives out there and it’s kind of a crime there has never been a proper adaption.

The Meh

Kind of wanted this thing to be a little more visceral. The Long Halloween is one of the darkest, most violent, Bat-stories ever. They kind of flirt with that carnage a little bit, but this part didn’t go full Holiday, if you know what i mean. The second one is supposed to get real gritty so i can give this one a pass but it sucks that we have to wait a month to get the real feel of this narrative.

The pacing is a bit wonky. I can see people complaining about how slow this thing is at times but i chock that up to the nature of this story. In a graphic novel or comic, you can tell a story in a certain manner but that doesn’t translate all that way to film. I’m fine with what we were given but i can totally see other people completely frustrated by the plotting, especially with Joker shows up. You just want SO much more of that guy.

The Bad

The way this story is told, hinges on the passage of time. This adaptation does a bad job of conveying that. The book is fine. You can consolidate a day or holiday, into one issue, This movie can’t do that and, at times, struggles with telling this particular aspect of the story, correctly.

I mentioned this before, but sometimes the animation can be really rough. Like, there’s a scene toward the end where that sh*t just falls of a cliff. These shots are few and far in between, but they are very noticeable and very jarring. If i didn’t love this story so much, i can see how this would take you out of the experience.

The Verdict

This sh*t is good. Real good! The Long Halloween is one of the best Batman stories ever told. It deserves to be treated with respect and reverence. Batman: The Long Halloween part One does just that. It has an incredible cast who all deliver wonderful performances, a familiar art style that feels both nostalgic and unique, a relatively tight narrative that pulls in the best bits of the source material while cleaving free some of the fat, and just an overall gorgeous production. This movie is easily one of the best in the animated DC vault, even if it is a little flawed. Warner did right by this iconic story and delivered something that puts The Killing Joke, another quintessential Bat-story, to shame. If you’re a fan of the Bat, you’ll love this movie. If you’re a fan of animation, you’ll love this movie. If you just want to see Batman done right, you’ll love this movie.
