Hope you guys will indulge me a little bit as I just wanna list off some things I love about Zeke

He's the Zekenator

He's such a silly goofy guy

His design is perfection

The Eye of Shining Justice

He's extremely quotable (I have "Zeke von Genbu, Bringer of Chaos! Mostly known as Zeke and often addressed as the Zekenator" memorized)

His blade, Pandoria, has lightning powers and I like lightning powers

Also he has a big fucking lightning sword

His super ultra mega move is called "Ultimate Lightning Fury Slash Max" and the name of it is so long that in game it has to be abbreviated to ULFS Max

Ultimate Lightning Fury Slash Max is also just my favorite move to use, it's very satisfying

Turters

He's a genuinely interesting character with depth despite the fact he initially seems like just a comic relief character

"Handling a Man's Turtle" <- another great quote from the Zekenator

His theme goes hard

The fact that his main nerf is that his animations for his moves take a long time because he's such a show off

He has bad luck as a character trait and that actually carries over into his stats as he has the worst luck stat of the party members (That sounds bad but I honestly just love the attention to detail)

He's the Zekenator

Gushing about his backstory more, he's a prince who hates the way his kingdom is run and got kicked out for constantly leaving and refusing to do his royal studies, but even so he still clearly cares about his kingdom and his people, he just hates the way things are run

He's also 100% correct about the kingdom being run poorly btw

Him and Pandoria have such funny moments and banter but are also so soft they make me so crazy /pos

He's such a great mentor/big brother figure to Rex

And also his rivalry with Morag is really great

Nia calls him Shellhead and he just kinda accepts it

I feel like I should bring up a point involving Tora now but all I can really think of is they have some funny dialogue together

He has a no kill policy because he believes killing people makes you weak

Just every cutscene he's in brings me joy

His idle animations are great, sometimes I just put the controller down to watch them

Did I mention that he's the Zekenator?

so I'm finally at the very endgame (I believe) of Xenoblade 2 and. I wanted to level grind some more and do some other things, but I am feeling myself burning out so I think I'm gonna say fuck it and just go for it. my team is around level 70, and as much as I wanna get OP with accessories/aux cores/etc I just. do not want to grind anymore LMAO

Xenoblade chronicles 3: Future Redeemed

First of all this game and this series as a whole is so incredible. Second i just beat the DLC but haven't 100% it so i have so much to scream i basically gave it a standing ovation it managed to answer juat about every answer i had about XC3 normal game and give me so much delicious and well made fanservice while still leaving a few questions, complete spoilered mad rambling under the cut

Are Noah's and N's swords Logos and Pneuma (or gifts from them?) or am i just dumb and didn't understand the final scenes because THAT WAS THE AEGIS' CORE CRYSTAL IN MATHEWS GAUNTLETS WTF!!!(We don't see Logos' core crystal but N's sword has some purple bits so maybe? or is one Mythra and the other Pyra i hope not!)... *ahem* i am very normal about this... why couldn't Rex and Shulk just say "yo kiddo yer my child" just for continuity and angst?! how dare but also thank you monolift.

Why didn't we see Fiora? love my girl and i miss her also when will we have a anime/webcomic/book about Rex/Pyra/Mythra/Nia and Shulk/Fiora doing fun slice of life family advantures?? no amount of fanfic will satisfy me (but if you have any give them to me)

After XC3 base story will A come back together with Rex and Shulk or will Glimmer, Mio, Rex's third unnamed child and Nikol loose their cool Non binary Unty (is that the gender neutral for uncle?)

The game play loop is probably the best so far i don't know if it would work for a 60 hour game i finished the story in 25 ish while taking my sweet time so i don't know but it made fighting the later enemies just as fun as the ones at the beginning something most RPG struggle i love the community build aspect that they always try to bring to the loop and this satisfied it the best (also number go up and check boxes get filled in make monkey brain happy)

did the credits confirm that the worlds fuse back together correctly or was that just Alrest or Bionis appearing from the weird 4d geometry?

Finaly thank you Takahasi and everyone that worked on these 3 games and three DLC/additional content (sorry didn't play x) it is truly a master piece of a series and i can't wait to see what you all have next in store for us be it Xenoblade related (whether it's with the characters we've seen thus far or just in the world much later in the future) or a wholly new endeavor I am already quite interested

3 favorite headcanons:

I love to imagine Shion and Jin just fighting in the kitchen because Shion wants to make her special curry and Jin is apalled because it's not spicy enough. I want more sibling dynamics.

MOMO and Jr. sitting together and MOMO asking to hear stories about her sister from his perspective. The feelings Jr. had for her so obvious as he talks about Sakura.

Albedo and Rubedo (Jr.) getting in countless tiny arguments about dumb boy things and Nigredo (Gaignun) having to step in and be a mom telling her kids to get along.

3 least favorite things about it:

The fact that it's only on Playstation 2 and didn't even get an upgrade for PS3 back in the day.

Not really about Xenosaga specifically, but the amount of times I've seen "Oh yeah, KOS-MOS from Xenoblade, right?" and it's made me want to sigh - not to mention her name is pronounced wrong in that game (one day I'll go back to the Xenoblade games).

While I do have such fond memories of the games when I was little (first game that introduced me to my love of JRPG's), it really is Cutscenes the game. I know Xenosaga 3 made some of the cutscenes feel more like you're playing, but I would have loved more gameplay inbetween instead of 30 minutes of gameplay then 3 hours of cutscenes (I might be over-exaggerating a bit). The story is really good though.

WELP, TIME TO GUSH ABOUT AN AU BASED IN THE WORLD OF ONE OF MY TOP FAVOURITE VIDEO GAMES OF ALL TIME THAT I’LL PROBABLY NEVER ACTUALLY GET TO WRITE ABOUT OTHERWISE BUT WHO CARES LET’S GO WALL OF TEXT INCOMING-

An entire horizon of white. A sea of clouds, and at its heart, the World Tree, piercing the heavens... This... This is the world we call home...

Alrest.

Story goes that when the world was young, everyone in Alrest lived on the Tree, together with our divine father, the Architect. According to the tales, it was a bountiful land. And the people there held the power to command even the heavens themselves. They called that paradise...

“Elysium.”

But then, one day... we were cast out. Nobody knows why. Perhaps we angered our creator, or perhaps it was something else entirely... All we know is, we were forced to leave Elysium to live here in Alrest, where, it turns out, life was pretty hard. But, when it seemed like we would surely die out, the Architect took pity on us, sending his servants, the Titans, to save us.

The few of us who survived settled on the Titans... and we’ve lived in harmony with them ever since. But now, those Titans...

...are beginning to die out.

The Kōtarō of Alrest grew up as a dirt-poor commoner in Chilsain, a port city found on the right shoulder of the Titan Mor Ardain. Like many young Ardainians, he too wound up joining the military simply because hey, it put food on the table, and his mother would not be burdened in providing for them both. She worked as a salvager for a local trade guild, but money earned from findings beneath the Cloud Sea disappear fast in-between guild fees and having to raise a child.

As part of the militaristic arm of the Empire of Mor Ardain, Kōta showed plenty of promise as an up and coming soldier over the early years of his career. However, a growing desire for freedom and sense of wanderlust—to explore the wide world of Alrest and the other Titans that inhabit it without being part of an army, all on his own terms—had him grow wearier of remaining as part of the rank and file while time marched on.

So that the military may further boost its combat prowess, it was decreed that all soldiers would attempt to link with Core Crystals in order to discover if they would have the aptitude of a Driver. If this proves successful, the Core Crystal would give form to a Blade, special lifeforms bonded for life with their Driver, whom they endow with new powers and a unique weapon. If a bond proves unsuccessful, however, the resulting surcharge of ether in their bloodstream would incapacitate the attempted Driver for some time, and thus would put them out of the running.

It was during this process that Kōtarō was discovered to be one of the lucky few to have exactly that kind of aptitude. Now standing with a Blade at his side, and a strong one at that, a quick rise through the ranks and a career for life were all but guaranteed for him! Promotions, new responsibilities, a greater salary, more responsibilities... recognition, even more responsibilities, keeping himself tethered to the aging and exponentially warming Titan he begrudgingly calls home which will likely die off in his lifetime...

...oh dear.

Thus, he would instead defect from the army and abscond with his new partner-in-crime in the dead of night! So long, rigid and by-the-book military! Hello, freedom!

In the few years since his departure, Kōta practically lived for adventure and gained renown as a solo mercenary-for-hire. Protection, bounty hunting, monster hunting, you name it, he’s your man! While he never turns down work that pays (and is morally aboveboard), he might at times find his bleeding heart easily taken advantage of. Thankfully, he does not work alone as a Driver; having awoken a pair of wind-elemental Blades to fight by his side, Kōta and company make for fearsome fighters on the battlefield.

While he can’t return to Mor Ardain without potentially facing disciplinary action for abandoning his post, he still sends money home whenever able.

For his partners, I thought to choose Rare Blades that were only attainable via the random, gacha-like Core Crystal summons (barring certain special guests from other Xeno games), and not from predetermined Core Crystals earned during Xenoblade Chronicles 2′s main story or side-quests. Without further ado-!

Boss Buster Zenobia is an Attacker-type Blade who lives for battle, and Kōtarō’s first Blade at that! She is the main reason why their little group often chases down powerful monsters, as she always seeks strong opponents to overcome. As rumours of the Aegis’s return after 500 years make waves across Alrest, she wishes to hunt down that legendary Blade and its Driver in order to test her mettle, much to her own Driver’s chagrin. Zenobia’s main weapon is a Greataxe, and her Field Skills include Wind Mastery, Superstrength, and Leaping.

It is because of the many parallels between herself and main verse Kōta’s Hai’iro Ranmaru that Zenobia became the perfect choice as his partner. Mighty wind-type spirits, Greataxe similar in function and size to Raigan’s war fan form, the Fūjin-inspired design... see what I mean?

Tiny but mighty, Albatrojan Finch is the cheerful little Tank-type Blade who keeps the team humble. While she may be cute, her memory lapses hard when it comes to names—yes, even including those of her fellow Blade Zenobia (Zebonia, Zirconia, Cloudia, so on) and her own Driver Kōtarō (Colorado, Coating, Kōbarō, so forth)—and events she literally just experienced moments ago. Still, despite her forgetful nature, this airhead is as reliable as can be in a fight. She wields a Shield Hammer, and her Field Skills include Entomology, Leaping, and Birdbrain.

Yes, the bird motif made her another obvious pick, and her penchant for riding on other people’s shoulders made her adorability impossible to overlook-

AI: The Somnium Files - a fantastic game I highly recommend if you like weird characters and stories and are a fan of visual novels/adventure games <3 super fun

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - AMAZING cast of characters and fun gameplay I didn’t want to stop playing, great plot I will be thinking about forever…

Bugsnax - very funny and cute and I loved catching every bugsnax and the fun characters I want to play the 2nd one when it comes out

Psyconauts - a cult classic for a reason. Loved it’s style but the final level is so bad I would not wish it upon my worst enemy. Looking forward to finishing 2 one day

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - I haven’t gotten to finish this one yet (I got 80 hours in okay??) but I’m incredibly excited to get back to it. GOTY BABY!!! GAME OF ALL TIME!!

Nier Automata - ALSO THE GAME OF ALL TIME this is a must play it broke me it healed me it made me see the beauty of art and story telling that games are capable of it’s really just fantastic. for the love of god do not stop after ending A. Love this game so much.

Chainsaw Man - starting off with the best one. CSM is so incredibly important to me and one of the best stories I have ever read. if you have talked to me at ALL you know how I cannot shut up about Denji and i AM NOT SORRY!!!

I Want to Hold Aono-kun so Badly I Could Die - fantastic supernatural/horror themed romance and one of my favorite romances I read this year

Black Clover - made me realize how truly trash bnha is at writing women lmao. Good battle shonen but nothing overwhelming special about it. It understands the basics and does them all well

D Gray Man - didn’t catch up on this one yet but it’s got great characters and some of the worst action paneling I’ve ever seen.

Dungeon Meshi - y’all were right it’s funny and can be very touching at time

A Condition Called Love - I can fix him romance but make it not feel toxic the manga. Super cute I love them.

Toilet Bound Hanako-kun - I feel like I started this last year but I know that can’t be true… supernatural + romance + cute art. It’s made me cry.

Jujutsu Kaisen - loved this baby and then I caught up to the current arc and it was the worst shit of all time. Megumi my depressed king.

Frieren Beyond Journeys End - fantastic please read it I love these bitches so much

Spy x Family - it’s SxF it’s good we all know this

Manga I finished reading

Cardcaptor Sakura - I think this is my first CLAMP manga I finished. LOVED sakura and shaoran they are so small. so many good aspects to this series and then all of the age gap bullshit is there so IDK hard to recommend but I enjoyed reading all of the parts that weren't about horrible relationships

Horimiya - CUTE I love romance where you get to follow them as a couple <3 there were a few bad spots in it (miyamura's piercings being compared to self harm in that one chapter.......???????) but over all a good read

Astra: Lost in Space - fun scifi adventure with good characters. pretty short and easy read. its fun

You Got Me, Senpai - SO CUTE one of the best relationships I've read in a manga. adorable.

Drowning Love - verrry good and complex, a mature story with darker elements (check out trigger warnings for it) and a very engaging coming of age story about two kinda horrible kids with too much attention pointed their way living in a small town. anime adaptation WHEN

Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty - super cute romance, supernatural elements. loved it

Orange - think this would be a perfect read if the time travel element wasn't explained like That and also Suwa >>> Kakeru and what they did to his character in that bonus story was just mean

Goodbye, Eri - everyone should read this. beautiful, stays with you. fantastic exploration on what arts purpose is

A Kiss, For Real - it was cute. the summary makes it sound more romance focused than it actually is, there is a lot of focus on the MCs journey of growth and what she wants to do with her life. Romance was cute but not exceptionally so

Takopi's Original Sin - overhyped as hell. depressing outlook on life. thought some of it was fine but it is overall too cruel to say i enjoyed it, especially with a cast this young

The Girl From The Other Side - I actually 100% cannot remember if I read this last year or not. anyways. BEAUTIFUL art, great characters, compelling mysteries

Junji Ito's Dissolving Classroom - not his best work by far, but it is one of his earliest so I don't care too much.

BNA - the plot point about how the furries were victims in the literal real world holocaust made me kind of hate this I won't lie. also the best friend fox girl Nazuna is one of the most unbearable characters ever. when you lead a cult pretending to be an important religious figure to a culture you are not part of because you like attention i guess?? it is not a good look in a show that already deals so heavily in antisemetic themes & imagery for it's villains.... sorry to whoever recommended this to me :( great animation

Dance Dance Danseur - did not like the MC but I did like the FMC and Rival character, good animation. I read the authors shoujo title Drowning Love this year and it should've gotten the adaptation TBH but this was fine, last few episodes carried

Death Parade - rewatched this one this year and it is still amazing. OP is still one of the best out there.

Do It Yourself!! - not incredibly remarkable yuri bait with a fantastic art style. its fine if you like cute girls doing cute things while being gay genre

Erased - for a mystery story the culprit is laughably obvious. the rest of it is pretty good though. oh lol other than the weird jokes about the protags taste in girls but it never followed through on anything so compared to other series im too tired to care

Keep Your Hand's Off Eizouken - starts off strong but I couldn't keep caring by the end tbh. it does not help I started it and then stopped for like 7 months and then finally finished the show so that's probably rly affecting my feelings

(Kinda Late) Nintendo Direct thoughts (2/8/23)

Teensy bit late on this one due to being at work all day, but I wanted to capture my thoughts on the latest nintendo direct (since we hadn’t had one in months and who knows when the next one is). Go over the highlights, the cool, the meh, and everything that I thought was interesting. Not gonna cover absolutely EVERYTHING, just the things that caught my attention (sorry Samba de Amigo and Fashion Dreamer, I’m sure you’re fun games and all, I just have other things I wanna talk about)Pikmin 4: Looks neat, that’s kinda all I’ve got on it. Visually it’s beautiful for a Switch game, but it’s not a franchise I’ve really cared about, so I’m pretty indifferent on it. Pretty happy for the Pikmin fans though, I know you guys have REAAAALLY been waiting on this one, so good to see it’s finally getting shown off. The dog thing Oatchi feels a little... weird though. Kinda like Pikmin’s version of Poochy or some other example of added dog-like companion getting added to a series, they always feel a little funky when added in my opinion. I dunno though, maybe it fits right in with the rest of Pikmin, I’m not exactly super knowledgeable on the series anyways. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC: That’s neat for Xenoblade fans. I only ever played X on the Wii U, so I don’t have much of a connection to the series, but hope fans of the game are hyped (also, was that Shulk and an older Rex? That was kind of a surprise to see). Who knows though, maybe I’ll try the series out again sometime in the future (probs not though, they seem too big for me) Dead Cells DLC: Ok, with every update this game seems to get, the more tempted I am to get into the game. Actually, why haven’t I gotten it yet?! It looks fun as hell, and it’s got a ton of fun crossovers with Shovel Knight, Katana Zero, Castlevania, and so so so many more games. I Really gotta give it a go at this point. Ghost Trick port: oh HELL yeah, I’ve been wanting to play this one for ages now! The Ace Attorney Trilogy has been a fun way for me to get into those original DS games, and I’m hoping this Ghost Trick port will accomplish the same thing! Bayonetta Origins: It looks ok. That’s about all I’ve got for it. It’s style is pretty different from the other Bayo games which I really like, but this one’s just not really speaking to me as much. Splatoon 3 DLC: Ok, first we’re gonna get Inkopolis as a DLC... Hub? Ok, that’s a bit odd in my opinion. Like, it’ll be nice to revisit Inkopolis after ALL these years, but at the same time it’s like... it’s just a hub... DLC just for an different hub area? Feels kinda... underwhelming I guess? I dunno, just feels like a weird thing to add. As for the Side Order DLC, now THAT ONE’S catching my eyes! More Pearl and Marina, and Splat 2′s hub being completely white and covered in Coral is so mysterious, I love this!! Fire Emblem Engage DLC: I don’t care who you add, I’m not playing this FE Game! Omega Strikers: Honestly, I’ll probs forget about this game in a bit, but I do like the character designs. I dunno, looks fun enough, a neat take on Air Hockey. Might pick it up as a Multiplayer game when I have friends over (ya know, if that ever happens). Etrian Odyssey Collection: Oooooooo, ok, I’m down for this. Only ever played a bit of EOU2: The Fafnir Knight, but the mechanics of it’s dungeon crawling and custom map making was a lot of fun!! Might pick this collection up! Advance Wars 1+2 ReBoot Camp: Hell yeah! I’ve been looking forward to this one ever since it was announced!! It’s also a series I haven’t played before, but it looks so charming and fun, happy it finally has a release date! NSO GameBoy Advanced: Didn’t care much about the GB additions, but the GBA being added?! YEAAAAAH!!! I mean I wish it wasn’t a part of the Expansion pass, but also, YEAAAAAAH!!! I love the sprite work on so many GBA games, and plenty of them I’ve wanted to play myself, so I’m really happy they’re being added (especially both Superstar Saga and The Minish Cap, I fucking love the sprite work in those games so god damn much, AAAAAHHHHH!!!) Metroid Prime Remake: Hell yeah (again)! I’ve always wanted to try the Prime games, so this should be a fun way to get into the series! And available today too?!?! Mario Kart DLC: I’m liking the look of this new course, and getting Birdo in any Mario game is always awesome!! Hoping they’ll add more characters now too since we know that’s not off the table anymore. I’d love Fawful or Starlow to appear in a MK game, but let’s be realistic, that’s not happening Extras: Magalor mode in Kirby seems alright I guess, looks a little forgettable though. That Detective Danganronpa game looks weird. New Fantasy life is neat, first game was enjoyable enough, but I’ll probs pass on this new one. Neat that there’s gonna be a new Professor Layton game. The DecaPolice game looks like it could be fun, but at this point I’m hesitant on any game where you play as cops (though at the same time, it looks to be more Detective than Police, and it’s probs based more on the Japanese police rather than western police. Still hesitant though) And last, but ABSOLUTELY not least

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: This section’s probably going to get pretty long since I am a huge Zelda fan, but first, let me just say, HOLY SHIT WAS THAT MATTHEW MERCER IN ZELDA!?!?!! FUUUCK YEAAAAH!!! Ok, all of my hype aside though, I am actually a little mixed on him being in it. Not cause there’s anything wrong with Matt’s performance (dude always kills it in his roles!), but because now when I’m playing the game, I’ll just hearing him as Matthew Mercer instead of whoever he’s playing (though, that’s not bad either. Hearing Mercer playing any role is always a very enjoyable experience, dude’s got a magic voice and I love every bit of it). And better yet, was he playing mother-fuckin’ GANONDORF?!?! I mean, he’s not immediately who I would’ve imagined for Ganondorf’s voice, but god damn am I always down for some more wonderful Matthew Mercer villain dialogue, especially for my favorite Villain!! But that said though... there’s also the possibility that the trailer mislead us and he’s NOT going to be Ganondorf, but instead playing the role of a new hidden villain instead (another Zant, Ghirahim, Astor, ect., an evil minion type character). I thought it was a little odd that there weren’t any shots of Ganondorf actually speaking, and Mercer’s voice feels a little mismatched for the (currently) dried up and mummified corpse of the Gerudo King, so that makes me wonder if we’re actually hearing dialogue from an unrevealed new villain (though alternatively it could just be dialogue from a... *ahem*,Rehydrated Ganondorf, but we don’t know if that’s going to actually happen or not). I’m not entirely sold on this theory myself (as I could very easily just be looking too far into some small details), but it is a theory I did want to bring up. The Dialogue and framing certainly point to him possibly being the King of all Evil, but those little things... it just feels... a little suspicious is all. As for everything else in the trailer though, OH MY GOD AM I HYPED!!! More Zonai stuff, plenty more enemy varieties, it looks like we’re getting both some sky islands AND underground stuff, there looks to be a ton of interesting changes to hyrule itself, and I CAN’T TELL IF THAT WAS A REDEAD OR A STALFOS BUT OH MY GOD AM I HAPPY THEY’RE BACK!! Looks like we’re getting some new Shiekah stuff, lots of new Zonai stuff, and Link’s new arm looks so interesting!! God am I hyped for this SO GOD DAMN MUCH!!! May can’t come soon enough!!

2022

Happy New Year, my friends!

I spent 2 weeks back home with my family. Xmas was very small and our holiday meal was humble yet enjoyable. It wasn’t until later when my extended family showed up that it really stirred up some drama. To put simply, things got too heated in the end and we won’t be seeing them anymore. Next year, Xmas will be just me, my bro and my parents, which honestly sounds great. 2022, I suppose like 2021, will be spent making the most of what we have and appreciating it.

I rolled up the cooking sleeves this Xmas... Made eggnog, spiked cheesecake, egg coffee, pumpkin cookies... Became a wine enthusiast lol. I know, it’s about time eh. If there’s any time I’ve ever felt so 30 years old... it’s right now.

My bro was introduced to Xenoblade 2 since I was still finishing it up over vacation. Like with most things, he did a 1-week speed-run of the game while we were still together and nearly caught up to me (which is pretty much the end). Just hours before we had to part ways, I loaded up my file and decided to beat the game so he could see the ending. On New Year’s Eve! You better believe I started Torna on Jan 1st. Starting the 2022 off right, folks...

When I think about last year, I realize I was put to the test in many ways and came out better for it. Learned some things about myself, made some embarrassing choices. Broke some friendships, gained some. It really is just about doing the things that you feel will improve your life and letting people go if they’re not meant for you. I try not to worry too much about my choices. I’m gonna be okay and they’re gonna be okay.

No NY resolutions this year, it’s the circumstances’ turn to change.

Nerd Stuff

My roommate and I finally beat Xillia 2 when we got back from our respective vacations. Wow it was something. From gameplay to plot to mechanics, that was the weirdest Tales game ever. Not my most loved game, but I had a good time. We’re trying to make it through the Ex dungeon and boy, do I feel TESTED.

Not that this is anything new, but I am in the mood for retro anime (which is all the time, but I feel it especially strong nowadays). I feel terribly indifferent to current shows so I’ll be taking a journey to explore 80s anime OVAs. The animation quality, copious amounts of sci-fi, and art styles intrigue me. Recs appreciated!

Last but not least, I will account my greatest achievement of 2021: getting my friends into Lupin III. The sweet, sweet feeling of finally being united in one fandom again after years of us never being aligned!

For right now, I mostly post about Unlike Pluto, but I want to start posting Like Saturn and why mona as well, because Unlike Pluto. Anime

Sometimes I post about Assassination Classroom (mostly the snipers because they're cool and none of the other characters are interesting) though due to creative differences within the fandom, I've become a bit disillusioned. My thoughts on today's Nintendo Direct

Ah yes, Nintendo Direct day. A day where Nintendo fans get their hopes up so high and the immediately have them shattered.

Not I however, not I.

If there is one thing Nintendo directs have taught me, it's to never have expectations. Or at least high ones. I came into this direct with no expectations whatsoever, and I'm fairly hyped for some of these new releases.

- Fall Guys. It looks like fun and I now have no excuse not to try it out.

- Mario sports games are stupid fun to me and a new Mario Golf game had me in the floor. I literally fell out of my chair the moment I saw Mario and a golf outfit.

I love how both Mario Golf: Super Rush and Mario Tennis: Aces have o u t f i t s that actually correlate to the sport. It brings me joy.

- Miitopia. I am a sucker for Mii games. I never had a chance to play it on the 3DS, but I did notice my brother greatly enjoyed it, so this seems like a new fun experience for me.

- Those Mario themed items for AC:NH are just what I need to deck out my island. I needed something new for my island and this is it. If I can't go to Super Nintendo World, I am bringing the Super Nintendo World to me.

- As a person who fears they will not be good at Legend of Zelda games I am genuinely considering purchasing a Legend of Zelda game. Skyward Sword looks like fun and motion controls??? I love motion controls!

Okay, I felt like I needed to get out my personal opinions on the direct because everyone else seems angry, upset, disappointed, or all three. It's hard to find someone that's genuinely excited aside from Xenoblade fans who got another Xenoblade rep in a Smash and Splatoon fans. Good for them!

Everyone else just seems so angry because they raised their expectations so high. Some to even unbelievable levels. Reading the comments on the live stream genuinely hurt me. I saw so few people who seemed excited, but those comments were overshadowed by people going:

- "BOOOOO"

- "cringe"

- "ew, more anime"

- "another sword fighter?" (I think swordies are fun :< )

- "WE DON'T CARE"

(I'm gonna be completely honest, those kinda guys piss me off)

Yes, I know I sound like a "bootlicker" or whatever those guys from Twitter call it, but Nintendo can't just do what you want them to do all the time. I personally am not into all these popular first party IPs like Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, or Splatoon. To me, some things seem interesting to me and others not so much. If something that I'm not interested in happens or something that I am interested in doesn't get any attention , I don't get angry over it.

I know not many people will read this, but if you do, please note that if you don't like something, it doesn't mean no one else will. If you don't get what you want, there's no point in getting angry, especially at people who are happy about what they got or the company that made the decision. I know that there's nothing that will make everybody happy, but let the people who are happy enjoy things and maybe, one day, you'll get what you want.

One Lenten Season Later…

(Sorry for the hiatus, I took a break from Tumblr for a while.)

I CHECK NEWS ON NINTENDO ALMOST EVERY DAY AND THEY HAVE TO DROP THIS MINI DIRECT WHEN I DON’T CHECK?! 

And suddenly I get an email saying, “This is what you missed from the 3-26-20 Nintendo Direct Mini!” and I freaking lost my—

The shockingly not-spoiling trailer analysis time!

Alvis

Let’s not beat around the bush—Alvis has a core crystal necklace. He is Ontos. This is officially confirmed. You can’t hide that from me, Nintendo!

I’m expecting this to be one of many subtle changes to the game to match Xenoblade 2, and since they have Adam Howden for the epilogue (more on that further down), I wouldn’t be shocked if they re-recorded the Klaus experiment scene or reused VA lines from Xenoblade 2.

Gameplay

Nintendo talks about the game having smoother combat and UI. They also mentioned making quests easier to keep track of. This could mean a lot or a little, specifically, one thing—the little blue line leading to the exclamation point on the map.

“Fashion Gear” is something brought in from Xenoblade Chronicles X. That is where you can choose one set of armor to wear for appearances and another set for the actual stats. I had to look that up, since I didn’t get too into X to realize that was a thing. I think it’s a nice addition, and this forum user nicely sums up my feelings on it: “Finally I don’t have to make Sharla look like a stripper to optimize her!”

And since this falls not really under any category in this analysis, I’ll note it here. XCDE won’t have amiibo compatibility or the Collection Mode from the New 3DS port. 

Major Things (VA, Music, Art)

Voice acting is the same. I synced up a couple of lines from the scene in the trailer where Shulk grabs the Monado from Dunban. I didn’t need to do much comparison to draw that conclusion, so we’re good, they’re not doing a redubbing. :)

A thing I noticed though was that we didn’t hear Melia’s voice in the epilogue sneak peek (again, more on that later down). I’m guessing they’re still trying to get her VA on board, or her lines aren’t finished being recorded yet. Or they were forced to get a new VA. If they did, don’t hate on this VA, please. She’s got huge shoes to fill.

If they haven’t gotten the lines recorded/finished being recorded yet, this may be why the funky captions were added into the epilogue to give bigger teases to the story without revealing the fact that they miiiight not have gotten all the voice acting down yet. I really hope this is the case, and it’ll match the rest of the game’s cutscenes. The funky text is strange. I’ll find the font name for anyone wanting it for some reason.

What’s not the same is the music, and before they even directly stated that 90 songs are being remixed/rerecorded, I knew they remastered the music. I have listened to the soundtrack every night for years, I know when it’s different.

And when they say 90, they mean literally every song in the game. The official soundtrack has 91 songs, and “Hope” was cut from the game, so that makes 90 songs redone.

Based on how it sounds, I’m actually thinking these might be live orchestra like Xenoblade 2’s. In Iwata Asks’ interview with ACE+ and the other composers, they talked about needing to pick one program to use as a group instead of multiple composition programs. And after listening to the special live orchestrations of some of the music, I think Xenoblade’s soundtrack was synthesized digitally. I’m not saying that’s bad at all, it’s just one way to make music. But I am thinking they used a real orchestra for DE.

You guys remember my post on how Xenoblade’s official character art were all retouched 3D models? Well, here are some preview pages from the art book that I found off Nintendo of Japan’s website for XCDE. Absolutely gorgeous art in a 250-page art book. We now have weapon designs, concept art of locations, new outfit/armor turnarounds, Scuba Shulk(TM), and new official character art—3D models! Lol.

As a note, the Mechonis art on the front of the special edition art book is exactly the high-definition art of the Mechonis in the Monado Archives, and the Mechonis’ texture in the game looks pretty darn close to this art.
