If you are alone, that is the quietest, most personal hell. And James, it is very hard to escape.

Last line tag
Thank u sm for the tagging me a few days ago my lovelies @joeyalohadream and @alienoresimagines ❤️ here is more babe can i call snippets (lowkey posting the whole fic at this point lol)
(5 times John calls gale in the middle of the night and 1 time gale does instead)
*
"Hey you okay? You alright?" He asked, voice coming out frantic as he grabbed Gale's face, forcing him to look at him.
"You came"
Gale said weakly, voice relieved, almost shocked, like he couldn't believe he was here. Before John could even say anything, Gale was wrapping his arms around him in a bone crushing hug, face buried in his neck as he breathed him in.
"Of course I did. You called. Of course I did." He tried to sound reassuring, but his voice trembled with worry.
He felt paralyzed, his heart racing as he instinctively looped an arm around Gale's waist, his other hand gently running up and down his back to soothe his shivering. Gale didn't do well with the cold anymore and seeing him shaking like this dredged up distant memories in John-memories he wished he could pack in a box and lock them away and forget them forever. Memories of the war, of Gale shaking and shivering in the blistering cold, marching across Germany with him, not knowing what kind of fate awaited them. The deep sense of helplessness at seeing Gale with frozen eyelashes and flushed face, trembling, huddled with hundreds of other men and not being able to do anything about it, sipped back into his bones and made space as if it had never left. It felt wrong and unbearable to see it now. Those days were over and he never wanted to see Gale cold and shivering ever again.
The memories crashed over John like a wave, knocking the breath out of him. With newfound urgency, he pulled back, shedding his coat and wrapping it around Gale's shoulders.
“John-” Gale breathed, voice strained. His eyes were brimming, threatening to spill over, face pinched with raw emotion. John reached to brush his messy fringe out of his forehead, cutting him off.
“You’re shaking, Gale. Talk to me. What’s wrong? What’s the matter?”
John rubbed up and down his arms vigorously, desperate to get him to stop shaking. To warm him up. Gale did nothing to resist it. He just stared at John and bit his lip, his expression pained as he looked away and closed his eyes, hands fisting in his lap.
*
Idk who to tagggg omg let’s go with @joeyalohadream (uno-reverse), @onyxsboxes @majorbuckyegan and @happy-days19 (im so sorry if u have done it already! No pressure ofc) ❤️‍🩹

Im really enjoying the Agatha show for now, but wanda maximoff, kate bishop and billy kaplan are my favorite comic book characters of all time and if they treat billy the way they treated wanda in doctor strange 2 and kate in the hawkeye show i will go there and personally assassinate whoever did it
#i really didn't give a fuck about the mcu for a while until this show came out#they better not fuck it up#i did enjoy kate in Hawkeye but like. so much of her character was deleted to make her a comic relief side character#im definitely not a comic accuracy purist#but i hate it when they take all the depth and the best trates out of the characters so they can keep having the cishet white guys shine#and don't get me started on the antisemitism in the mcu lmao#like i understand not mentioning wanda and pietro are jewish bc they don't have magneto there#but they have literally no reason to delete billys judaism and i definitely feel like they're gonna do it#and i bet they choose to not introduce hulkling at all to avoid the gay storyline (aka. the main romance storyline of the young avengers.)#anyway fuck disney🫶🫶🫶#agatha all along#billy kaplan#wanda maximoff#oh and they also absolutely mistreated america to but it doesn't matter to me as much bc i dont like her as much as the others#and also i kinda prefer the og young avengers team/ comic run then the one with america and bucky#anyway#marvel cinematic universe#i feel like at this point its better if they don't introduce magneto at all bc#a. they can never make a better version of him then the ex men movies allredy did#b. theyre gonna be all like “haha no whats auschwitz theres no antisemitism in the mcu”#anyway tag rant is doneeeee#nvm that#would like to stress im genuinely enjoying the show#all the acting is very good#and the main characters and premise are very cool and enjoyable

“Bucky Cleven, the impervious, the invincible, was gone. If he couldn't make it, who could? His good friend, Bucky Egan, didn't talk much that night.”
“The loss of Bucky Cleven over Bremen and Bucky Egan over Münster seemed to have cut the heart right out of the the 100th. Without them the 100th was a shadow.”
"What I can't really handle is that when Cleven and Egan were still around, the men were happier. With them gone, the heart of the 100th has stopped beating."
“It wasn't only that my friends were gone. The spirit was gone. The laughter. Ham, Brady, Warsaw, Crankshaft, Solomon, Murph-always good for a laugh-were gone. Under Dart Alkire and Chick Harding as Group Commanders, anything went with the 100th and it did. When Bucky Cleven and Bucky Egan were setting the tone of the 100th, there was dash. There was derring-do. Flying the war was an adventure.”

since i'm back in my stucky feels, i just need to know why they chose "it's been a long long time" to reintroduce bucky to steve. i mean what in the actual fuck were they thinking if they didn't want us to be absolutely unhinged about them?

ok so sending my question here bc this is more marvel comics than mcu related so im like. sliding you a note in class about an somewhat related but mostly tangential topic here 😂
so i've been wanting to get into bucky comics (and winter soldier comics) recently but as a dc fan now whose only marvel comics background is reading matt fractions hawkeye (the best ever, currently rereading it to feel something again actually) and part of wilsons ms marvel run back when i was in high school i have no idea where to start. you said that you have read comics for bucky; do you have any recommendations?
hello i love being slid notes this is so sweet <3 bc luckily Bucky is one of a small handful of characters i can *actually* give good recs for on the Marvel side of the fence! so i'm MORE than happy to give recs bc i actually already have a list i'm happy to share. also, BIG agree on Fraction's Hawkeye run, oh my god. that comic means *so* much to me and though i haven't really read Hawkeye comics outside of it, i love it a lot. 10/10 taste <3
so when it comes to Bucky, he has a *lot* of Golden and Silver Age comics as Captain America's teen sidekick and all. skip them. they're not worth it and they're not the version of the character you want to read. honestly, you should just start with his return as Winter Soldier, and go from there so
Captain America (2005) - this is Ed Brubaker's run, it's fantastic and it's the run that brings back Bucky as the Winter Soldier. i will warn you if you're used to DC comics, Marvel does this really confusing thing called legacy numbering. (DC sometimes does it but not as much) so you're gonna notice it'll jump from issue #50 to #600. you did not somehow miss hundreds of comics, it's just numbered that way bc it's the 600th Captain America comic overall. this run is super good though.
Captain America & Bucky by Ed Brubaker - once again numbering is weird just don't mind it. but this will give you a primer on Bucky's backstory as Cap's sidekick without you having to read all the Silver Age stuff and it's a great comic.
Captain America: Forever Allies (2010) - if you want to read where Bucky was Captain America for a bit, this comic is good for that. it also briefly touches on Secret Allies, a team he was on as a teen during the war. i'm not the biggest Cap!Bucky fun, but this is decent.
Winter Soldier (2012) - by *far* the best Winter Soldier solo run. Ed Brubaker my beloved. this is just amazing. this was where i started with Bucky and tbh if you vaguely understand his comics backstory and don't want to read all the Captain America stuff, i think you can start here. you get to see his relationship with Natasha, his spy work it's just. everything <3
Winter Soldier: The Bitter March - if you want to see a story that takes place during Bucky's time brainwashed under Hydra, that's what this one is and it's pretty solid
Thunderbolts (2016) - this comic is most known for the relationship between Bucky and a young girl who's a cosmic cube named Kobik and it's just so delightful. the whole team is really fun and explores moral greyness in superhero work, but mostly i love this one for Kobik.
Winter Soldier (2018) - i really enjoy this mini-series, it has Bucky trying to save a young boy who's forced to be a weapon and there's just a lot of good stuff. always have a soft spot for Bucky trying to do right by kids.
Falcon & Winter Soldier (2020) - a good team up mini-series. also Bucky has a cat so yk, that's delightful. <3
there are other Winter Soldier comics and comics he's in but Marvel's comic world is big and fucking confusing (to me as a DC fan, anyway) so these will be the easiest to start with. my top recs are probably Captain America & Bucky and Winter Soldier (2012), though i'm incredibly biased to any comic written by Brubaker for Bucky. i love Bucky so dearly. he is everything to me. i hope you enjoy!

if we're being so for real, i was a goner on the winter soldier storyline in the mcu the second they cast sebastian stan as james "bucky" buchanan barnes because i was watching once upon a time season 1 episode 17 hat trick when it aired on march 25, 2012 and became deeply enamored with jefferson's tragic backstory, manic moments, fun little kidnapping habit, and deeply deeply sad eyes

fuck P/ggy C/rter, fuck H/yley Atw/ll (and this is more than about a ship), fuck St/ggy, fuck Endgame, fuck Carter becoming a new Captain and then stealing all SteveBucky moments in order to build St/ggy romance based off SteveBucky only to say that SteveBucky is platonic but St*ggy is romance.
fuck! it! all!
SteveBucky in love and canon. SteveBucky best friends since childhood. SteveBucky married eventually.

summer winter reading/writing/arting tag
Thank you so much for tagging me @thealterscrolls in your post, you know I love an excuse to overshare about things I like and/or are working on. Though, I'll be nice and keep each list to a maximum of 8 cause otherwise I would go overboard and that would make this already long post longer than necessary. Alright, let's get into it:
Describe one creative WIP project you're planning to work on over the summer: No summer for me for a while but hey, winter for me personally is a great time to work on stuff cause excursions outside the house are at a minimum, and I don't have to feel bad about being inside all day when the sun's already going down at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Anyway, I'm hoping to work on my In the Absent Place prequel slash companion fic focusing on Jake and the events that lead into that story. It's been an idea I've wanted to do for months and I have indeed started on it but I keep getting distracted from it by other ideas and fandoms (and also working on zine fics). But I do want to finish it. I also have a fic for The Owl House and one for Wolf 359 that I keep coming back to (aka the fics that have been distracting me), so we'll see if I ever get round to finishing those.
Recommend a book: When it comes to reading books, I am both very easily entertained (I rarely give out 1 or 2 stars) and extremely reserved with what I consider a great book, to me at least. I have given only a few books 5 stars. These are those few books: • 'Project Hail Mary' by Andy Weir • 'Piranesi' by Susanna Clarke • 'Loveless' by Alice Oseman • 'Radio Silence' by Alice Oseman • 'Elatsoe' by Darcie Little Badger • 'Good Omens' by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett • 'The Witch's Heart' by Genevieve Gornichec • 'His Dark Materials' series by Philip Pullman
Recommend a fic: There are so many great fics I've read that are lost to time because I'm stupid and rarely bookmark stuff (it's that same 5 star problem, y'see). But here's some I have bookmarked or remember really liking: • 'Mens Rea' by yellow_caballero (Moon Knight) • 'the dotted line' by zippe (Moon Knight) • 'An Evolving Situation' by whiskyrunner (Moon Knight, ongoing) • 'Puddlejumping' by Davechicken (Moon Knight) • 'Misguided Ghosts' by petrichorishly (Lucifer) • 'Thermotemporal Equations' by blinkytreefrog (Captain America) • 'No Echo' by sh0rtwave (Wolf 359) • 'you were the song that i'd always sing, you were the light that fire would bring' by rnelody (The Owl House)
Recommend Music: I like listening to a lot of genres, but I think indie pop is probably my go-to, so pretty much all of these will fall under that. Here are some of the songs I've really been enjoying lately: • 'Word to the Trees' by whatever mike • 'Christmas in June' by AJR • 'Kelly Time' by Owl City • 'Bite Down (Bastille vs. HAIM)' by Bastille • 'Jigsaw' by Conan Gray • 'Bloody! Bloody!' by Junie & TheHutFriends • 'Serotonin' by girl in red • 'Talking to Myself' by Will Jay
Share one piece of advice: Nothing you learn is a waste of time. Nothing. Doesn't matter how obscure or pointless it feels like it is, everything comes in handy some way or another eventually (and, hey, even if it doesn't, it can still be fun to have that knowledge). So learn! Learn whatever you want, however big or small. Learn that fictional language or lore from your favourite story. Learn about a show you've never watched from an hour long video essay. Learn about that obscure historical event you found in a Wikipedia rabbit hole at 2AM. Learn not because you have to but because you want to and because you're interested. Because no time is ever wasted when you've gained something new.
That's it for me. I'll tag @pizzee, @yellowocaballero, @theophagism, and @mockspector. Consider it my not-so-sneaky way to learn about your projects and/or favourite books/fics. ;)

@winniemaywebber here’s the quote from the book + another section for context because it wouldn’t fit in one reply :)
— — — — —
In the Air Force, a flyer wanted to be "hot." He wanted to be able to handle his liquor and his women. When he got his picture taken, he wanted to look like a rock," short for "hot rock." When a rock went into the air and put on his radio headset, the stiff top of his hat kept his headset from fitting close to his ears. So out came the stiff wire circular grommet.
It never went back in, and the hat with the "hundred mission crush" was born. The more disreputable the hat, the better for the rock.
…
Back at the hotel I went into the bathroom. Buck naked, I stood before the mirror. I put the hat on. I tried it at several angles, over one eye and then the other. I pushed it back, with just the appropriate carelessness.
"Crosby," I told myself, "you are a rock."

Bucky Barnes Drabble
(No relationship, y’all this is just pure angst I’m sorry. Merry Chrysler🎄)
Memories are fickle things.
Most of them slip through his fingers like grains of sand in an hour glass.
The ones that stay for longer are more often than not, stained with blood.
Some are hidden behind a haze of white. He sometimes sees through the fog and knows for certain something he couldn’t remember a moment before.
Like right now—as he stands on a quiet cobbled street—and a few stray notes are carried through the wind.
He liked to dance.
The man he was—no longer is, can never be again—liked to dance.
Pieces of the puzzle that make up his past have come to him slowly since the man on the bridge—since Steve.
Sometimes they’re bigger—corner pieces—like the image of a skinny boy with hair like straw and lungs that failed him more often than not, standing his ground against a bunch of bullies.
Or two woman—one with grey in her hair, the other far younger with a smile so like his own—together in the kitchen joking as they stand by the stove.
Others are smaller more a feeling than memory.
This one starts with his foot tapping to the rhythm of the music that plays faintly in the distance.
He can almost feel the warmth from all the bodies crammed into a noisy music hall. He can just barely smell the cigar smoke and spice from liquor being poured. Hear the laughter of the crowd and sound from the band playing.
The ghost of a hand on the nape of his neck, the whisper of a pair of lips against his cheek.
He finds the source of the song—a small radio left out on a balcony a few floors above where he stops.
His foot keeps tapping to the rhythm that feels like an old friend—and he tries to hold onto the feeling that spreads timidly through his chest.
A car engine back fires, somewhere not far away and the image slips through his fingers, and he’s against a stone wall—chest heaving and palm sweating.
He doesn’t remember why he’s there—but the fear like ice sliding down his spine has him rushing away.
Memories are fickle things.
