It stares at Lan Zhan. Lan Zhan stares back. They come to an agreement. The cat – Bichen, he has decided – purrs as he picks her up and puts her in her carrier. She purrs on the drive home, when he sticks his fingers through the carrier’s grid door, his uncle’s voice bitching in his head about keeping both hands on the wheel. She purrs when he explains to her gently that this is her home, that she must stay indoors for safety, that he keeps her here because he loves her and does not want her hurt. “You are good,” he says when she purrs next to him in bed. “You are a kitten, no matter what they say. This series is so freaking good. If you haven’t read it, you absolutely have to!

It has fae, court politics, gods, legends, DRAGONS!! This series seriously has so much going for it.

It’s also queer as heck with such a broad range of queer identities explored on page in such an honest and organic way.

It’s so hard to really talk about a series without spoiling anything, but this is a story of grief, the cost of power, loneliness, betrayal, trauma. It’s a story of the power of love, of found family, of being so much more than anyone ever gave you credit for.

It’s about a group of misfits, some of them teens, some of them immortal gods, but all of them lost and alone and so much better for having each other.

There’s so many incredible personal journeys in this book alongside the big, overarching plot. So many beautiful, wonderful character moments. So much growth it made my heart feel fit to burst.

The big plot ramps up at the end of book two and I was absolutely RIVETED through the last two books. When I wasn’t reading, I was thinking about it, itching to return. I woke up eager to start my day knowing I’d be able to pick up my book sooner if I got up earlier.

I really can’t recommend this series enough.

I’m about a year late to this incredible gem of a game but I want to super duper highly recommend the (free!) visual novel/otome game A Date with Death! I love love the concept and it’s executed perfectly imo.

I didn’t know what to expect going in but it’s wonderful and really high quality, from adorable graphics and top-tier writing to really thoughtful character design options!!

I played all the way through in one sitting (but there are multiple endings) and was genuinely smiling/laughing at my screen half the time lmao

tl;dr play A Date with Death, it brought me some much needed joy and I will def be exploring this world (aka Grim) more in fanfic 🤭

I think a continuation from Shuck is in order. From Tim's POV: Tim will fight with tooth and nail to keep sire-protector-warmth-love close. Nothing in existence could convince him of letting the Grim go.

Or the one where Tim's abrupt imprinting on Jason causes some codependency issues, especially since he's the only bond he's ever had.

This book was…horrific.

But it was beautiful at the same time. Not only does is play upon the haunting ideas of grief and revenge and anger and how that comes out in war torn countries, it does it with a stunning story inspired by Chinese history/mythology.

The characters are multi layered and there isn’t anyone who is just “good” or “evil”. Everyone has a skeleton in the closet, something they must avenge, and everyone has multiple faults, which makes this collection of characters all the more interesting.

The action is brutal, barbaric and there are so many triggers to keep in mind, and this story is not for the faint of heart. It’s going to punch you in the face, stab you in the stomach and then pour salt on your wounds all the while bringing you to tears because of the barbaric nature of war.

Stunning, inhumane and spirit crushing, this book is a masterpiece.

Next I’d like to recommend my wonderful friend @thechaoticfanartist, whose masterpost is here. They specialize in writing their OC Grim Kennet, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano. Their main WIP is The Clone Wars Gets a New Victim, in which a girl from Earth is transported into the Star Wars universe and tries to prevent Order 66 from happening.

OOOOOOOH I've always thought dropping a "this universe" human into the Star Wars universe presents an interesting set of problems and possibilities, and this fic absolutely seems like it will tackle several of those!! Also, HELL YEAH LESBIAN AHSOKA!! And this promises just PAIN at the thought of stopping Order 66, because even if Grim manages it, at what cost (because no one can ever be happy in Star Wars).
