ive been playing Cassette Beasts for a minute and it never stops being funny to me how flagrant they are about making this "Pokemon but with features you didn't know Pokemon has always needed". off the top of my head:
super effective/NVE hits have added benefits/debuffs beyond just doubling/halving the damage (hitting Electric types with Ground reduces their evasion and speed, hitting Steel types with Poison gives them poison-coated spikes that do contact damage, etc)
legally-distinct-Pokemon will learn new moves while in your party without having to battle, and you can then straight up steal these moves from them and put them on a not-Pokemon you actually care about using, which gives an actual incentive to hunt down and raise otherwise fringe not-mons beyond completing the not-Pokedex
we all played the Pokemon Infinite Fusion fangame right? we know how fusions work? okay so this game has them as temporary per-battle things instead of permanent ones, which is only marginally less cool while being infinitely easier to balance around
attempting to catch something shows you the percentage chance of success so you know whether you just got unlucky or if you should save your Pokeballs-i-mean-blank-cassette-tapes
leveling up is tied to your not-trainer instead of your not-pokemon, so you don't end up in the classic trap where your starter is way overleveled and everything else is underleveled and then you hit a fight your starter can't solo and have to spend an hour grinding to get the weaker not-mons up to par (funnily enough most Pokemon Nuzlocke romhacks have already figured this out and give you infinite rare candies with the only restriction being that you can't level past the next gym leader's ace pokemon, because Pokemon fans have realized that grinding is the worst part of the game way before Game Freak has)
moves, not-Pokeballs, not-PokeCenter visits, and healing items are all bought using entirely separate currencies which stops you from trivially breaking the economy in half
the soundtrack, fittingly, is pretty good! the vocals were a bit much for my taste but there's an option in the settings menu to straight up turn them off (letting the BGM play on its own), which i've never seen in any other game and really appreciate
downsides:
on a game design level, i understand why can i only carry a max of 5 not-Potions and 1 not-Revive at a time - it's to put a limit on how far away from fast travel points i can get by just running away from everything and healing off damage. on a gameplay level, however, this feels pretty bad
the pixel art style is trying to look as much like Pokemon as possible without actually being Pokemon so the overworld sprites look more like beta stuff from Pokemon that they cut for looking too weird. i have yet to find a haircut that doesn't look bad
this is super petty of me but something about the bloom and lighting of the 3d environments combined with pixelated 2d sprites that still cast shadows makes me painfully aware im playing a video game. it's like they were going for the same aesthetic as Octopath Traveler but fell just barely short. i can't think of a better way to articulate this feeling but if you know you know
it does that really obnoxious half-assed style of voice acting where plot-relevant characters will sometimes (maybe every third or fourth textbox) speak the first two or three words of dialogue before trailing off. mashing through textboxes (as one does) means constantly getting jumpscared by "hmm"s and "haha!"s "okay then!"s
i get that they wanted to make the player feel involved in the story, and it has a pretty decent hook so far, but oh my god. the amount of dialogue "choices" that just transparently do not matter. you know how people memed on Fallout 3 and 4's dialogue choices all leading to the same outcome, to the extent that you were basically choosing between "yes" and "yes (rude)"? and you know how Bethesda would at least attempt to justify how both options led to you accepting the quest anyways, even if it was really dumb? Cassette Beasts has streamlined this process even further by making the options in most of their binary decisions so identical that they don't even require different followup dailogue before rejoining into the main conversation thread. a solid 2/3rds of the dialogue options in this game so far feel like checks that you're still awake. i know this is a minor issue because people aren't playing Pokemon-likes for the engaging "choices matter" approach to storytelling, and i did ignore it at first, but it's so pervasive that you really can't ignore it

As mentioned before, I spent an entire week and countless hours across a version of Undertale as told by dedicated fans who spent seven years developing a massive love letter to Toby Fox in the form of Undertale Yellow. With the game turning one year old today I thought I'd weigh in my thoughts on it.
So I came into the game with an unusual task; to learn about this alternate world's lore for @vyletbunni's The Last Amalgam series (as of this post, parts one and two are officially up, part three is currently still in development). Not only did I get what I asked for but alongside @deltatraveler, it was something I think I actually needed to play. I've spent so much time on open online games that I forgot how nice it was to take it slow with something far more one-player that doesn't have a massive checklist of things for completionists. No achievements, no online mishaps, no stream system, just me and a game that took up one-fifth of a gigabyte on my drive.
The amount of work that went into this game is insane. Things that would take a pair of sprites to convey were stretched into pixel-sized animations that shows the additional lengths this team would go to telling their story. The music? I'm still going through the soundtrack on my commutes. Of course BEST FRIENDS FOREVER! is my top-most replayed song. And the (non-canon) lore? This no doubt opened the door for tons of people to make all kinds of new Undertale work and speculations off of it.
It's actually kinda hard to nitpick something super specific because I can't remember any flaws through all three playthroughs. I guess the only thing I can say is that Yellow through a curve-ball making me think that I need to first do the Neutral route on my first playthrough when "Surprise!" you're already on-route to the Pacifist ending instead. I don't know…the reveals Flowey gives you on the Neutral ending may or may not feel like required context for when you take that Pacifist route first. But that just might be the original Undertale talking to me; so some beats can be shaken up.
I do wonder how this game was handled. Seven years of development time, Toby Fox making Deltarune alongside them, most of the...admittedly weird fangames that just boil down to the fights. Actually, come to think of it, one of those Yellow devs had previously worked on Undertale Red (Red as in the fan character who made a cameo in Yellow) ended up working on base Deltarune itself!
So closing thoughts: Yeah, this DID take 7 years to make. This is a team of people who didn't get paid to work and completed a near-canon Undertale experience that captures the original game almost perfectly. The battles, the animation, the music that didn't have to hit so hard but they hit it out of the park...all in all, I kinda wish I paid for this game because the devs can still take Yellow as a stepping stone for bigger projects in their future.
...huh...I wonder...
...
...
...
...yeah, I'm keeping this lmao
#undertale#undertale yellow#anniversary#undertale yellow anniversary#one year anniversary#discussion#i had my absolute fun with the game#i however don't think i have any new ideas for comics around it though#i feel as though it doesn't need any#i'll leave that to everyone else's ideas but right now this avatar is mine

Findjackwalten 07/15/23 Update #1 and #2 Walkthrough
Findjackwalten updated TWICE yesterday! There's no new pages but a LOT of already existing pages have changed, several of them more than once.
UPDATE #1:
Findjackwalten.com
Lots of these images of Bon have appeared on top of the whole page. The page in this screenshot is SUPPOSED to be grey except for the new bons, but The Wayback Machine doesn't archive that color overlay in the page capture.
If you use something like Ublock Origin to remove the Bon assets you can see the bit of white-on-black text reads "Say something..."
This image also seems to be the same as the backdrop to this teaser
Seeing it now it's more obvious what the drawing is actually of. Bon is wearing a hard hat, with little screws and bolts of electricity around him. It seems engineering-related, like somewhere Susan would work.
Findjackwalten.com/martinguaridasecretanoentrar
This page has been outfitted with three new Funny Walten Facts
"Goodfaith Caring"
This one's enigmatic. Exact google search results are nonexistent (IE, searching the name in quotation marks), so it probably refers to something in universe? It's capitalized, so it's a proper noun. Maybe the name of a company? Maybe even the name of an episode of something? An episode of The Walten Files? and episode of Little Bon's Neighborhood? An episode of The Showstoppers Comedy Extravaganza?????? It's so vague I really don't even know what to say here.
"Sha was originally named "Belle" or "Belly" so that all the names would start with a B and be named the "THE 4 B's" or "THE B PACK" instead of "THE SHOWSTOPPERS", but Sha sounded more adequate. She was actually the last showstopper to be made and a final addition because back when TWF was a fangame i needed a character to balance the group more and a more adequate stage companion to Bon than Banny (too similar to Candy and Cindy from good ol FNaC) so Sha was made, so yeah, my fav showstopper right there."
Something I mostly knew already but was pretty obscure! I always really love getting a look into the creation of The Walten Files, and this bit about Sha only existing as to make Welcome to Bon's Burgers less similar to Five Nights at Candy's is a really fun fact.
"No she wasn't homeless, it was just cheaper than paying for an actual apartment"
An elaboration on the Sophie fact from before. This just makes this previously devastating Sophie information really funny. He lived in a meat shop for three years because the rent was cheap. His whole life is so bizarre.
Findjackwalten.com/poker
Nearly the same as always, except the top text has changed to read "It was not quick."
Findjackwalten.com/890247895yuiowarsehiofhkjy890wte
There is LOADS of text on this page now. It reads like more Anthony website posting, which definitely confirms this being a sort of bizarro 'missing link' from the nonfunctional "Object Possession" link on /brightonghosts.
This "Jazmin Doll" story is completely fictional and exclusive to the universe of The Walten Files. There is some (completely unsubstantiated) speculation that Child's Play could be based on the real-world haunted artifact of Robert the doll, but that's obviously not what's being referred to here.
The important information here is this:
"dOnce [sic] the soul chooses it's vessel, it becomes it's body. However, the longer it spends inside of it. The more it becomes it's ACTUAL body. (Jazmin's body was the doll, the wood was her skin, the wooden arm was her real arm.) it can cause it pain and it can feel everything it touches. this has been named amongst us ghostfans as "Post-Extensive Object Possesion"'
This is like. a CRAZY bomb of information to be given about the ghosts in this universe. I don't want to theorize about it too much since I try to keep crazy theories away from these walkthrough posts, but holy shit.
Another little thing here is that there's some odd letters on this page that i'm not totally willing to write off as just typos. There's a missing "e" and "g" in this bit here:
And an extra letter "d" here:
No clue what this means, or if it spells something, or anything.
Last thing I wanna point out with this one page is the little stipulation at the beginning where Anthony mentions that if the story he talks about is proven fake, he might delete the page. This might be what happened, and why the main /brightonghosts page doesn't link off to it?
Findjackwalten.com/ghosttalk
This page is the same except for this little addition just at the bottom:
This update seems to corroborate the new information on the Object Possession page, that ghosts within haunted objects eventually 'become' the object and experience a sort of 'life' within it.
Findjackwalten.com/brightonghosts
A new update from Anthony!
He's found some new stuff to show us! And apparently the K-9 facility is now demolished? That sounds familiar enough that it might've been something we knew before but I can't exactly remember. The Jane Walten mystery continues.
Findjackwalten.com/btscene
Just a small update, one new image at the very bottom:
UPDATE #2
Findjackwalten.com
The same as the last main page update, but with new white-on-black text:
This is a quote from How The Grinch Stole Christmas, which is... interesting? It's making me think back on notable presents in The Walten Files. We see a lot of present boxes in Bunnyfarm that usually involve a ghost/animatronic giving one to Sophie which kickstarts a Scary segment.
There's also the fact that Rocket was a Christmas present
Findjackwalten.com/poker
A really weird update here. We have that exact same quote from How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and the normal /poker image has been replaced with one with this ominous white face peering out from behind the grandfather clock.
Findjackwalten.com/brightonghosts
Just a little funny edit of Anthony trying to fix his slipup
Findjackwalten.com/poker ....again?
This update to /poker happened maybe an hour or less after the previous one.
the Grinch quote has been changed to read "oops!", and the painting has been replaced with this darkened, almost pitch-black version. If you use some photo editing software to brighten the image, you get:
Oops indeed.

(warning, LOONGG late night rambling post)
ok, so you know about Yume Nikki Online? that really good online multiplayer hub hosting both the original game and a collection of fangames? i feel like that idea could apply really well to OFF and its fangames too! and i got the perfect name for it, OFFline.
i imagine it can go with a similar premise of YNO but just allow people to talk and gather around in OFF-related games. but i see a lot of potential for OFFline to include some kind of PvP-dedicated fangame, which I'll call Engage. which, with how many ideas i have for it, might be best to not make in EasyRPG.
the basic idea i have in mind is that there's a central hub where people can just chat and hang out which has three divisions:
Versus
Team Battle
Arcade, subdivided into Campaign and Endless.
what all of these modes have in common is a shopkeeper. it'll probably be better to make them an original character, but basically, for Versus and Team Battle, at the beginning of a match, you're given a set amount of credits to purchase from a list of items, weapons, and armor. for consistency's sake, i think its best that certain items are locked for certain characters only (say, no one else can use weapons and armor for Home characters), but healing and damage items are fair play for all.
whoever hosts a room will be able to dictate which select fangame they'd wish to fight in (as in, which cast of characters both users must use), OR decide that anything goes and both users are free to make the party of their dreams (its also here that they'd be free to select which battle theme plays).
Versus mode is between two players, who have full control of their own parties. while Team Battle is a 4v4, where each player will have control over their selected party member.
as for Arcade, its basically just singleplayer fun; the intent is that with the large amount of enemies and bosses from the multitude of fangames present, it will bring something different each time via randomizer. Campaign i would describe as being similar to Smash 3DS's Classic Mode, where you're given 3 branching paths with varying difficulties. the more difficult ones you beat, the more credits you earn, where you can make a pitstop before each boss to stack up (with zodiac orbs being pricier). referring to the sketch above, yellow cubes are enemy encounters, red cubes are bosses, and purple is for the end-game boss (the final boss from the og game/fangame, if applicable). i figured that every 3rd or 4th encounter being a boss will help prevent the gameplay from being monotonous beatdowns of regular enemies. you'll get choices for enemies and bosses, but there's only one endgame boss and that's random each time.
and lastly, Endless mode is just that. this time, you're given a larger supply of credits to use and once you enter the first round, there's no going back. each round will supply a minute amount of health or energy items to use, but will progressively get more difficult. my hope here is that it isn't just more enemies each round, but for it to sometimes bring fewer but beefier enemies, and maybe even a miniboss. you progress through each round by clicking on the individual cube labeled with the appropriate number. i figured like this it'd be more reasonable to fit within RPG2k3's limits but at this point it would be bloated so oh well. and of course, once you die, it ends. a public leaderboard will be on display to show the top 10 players and their scores.
now to get the obvious out of the way, online functionality with this many features would be difficult, if not impossible, to implement. as such, i would not be opposed to taking an approach similar to the UT fangame Don't Forget, where OFFline will be developed on an engine like Gamemaker and attempt to re-create RPG2k3's vibe and the individual games being hosted, along with Engage. the problem with the latter is that i think its more realistic to just let EasyRPG do all the work in porting the fangames like YNO, rather than recreate each one in a more modern engine. but at the same time, that would be the only feasible way of having any of these planned features to work without any fuckups. of course, i suppose a workaround to having multiplayer work in RPG2k3 would be to have a Parsec session or something similar, but that'd only be a solution for Versus mode at best. it would definitely not work for Team mode and might conflict with general offline.
in fact, the idea of OFFline might take some mad wizardry to even make it work, and i wouldn't be surprised if it barely works. making it in EasyRPG and using 2k3 as the basis vs. making it in a modern engine is the double-edged sword of this whole hypothetical. i'd love for something like this to happen, but i imagine it would be too much work to not only develop, but to keep the servers online for an otherwise niche fanbase. still, i cant shake away how much potential and fun this could be.
with that said, rambling is now over!

Todays rip: 18/11/2023
Whitty is still alive in our hearts <3 <3
Season 5 Featured on: Legends of the Western Sunset ~ The SiIvaGunner All-Star Summer Festival 2021 Collection
Ripped by Heboyi
youtube
Feel like it's been a while since I covered a Friday Night Funkin' rip, huh? As far back as June with Satinpanties Symphony, to my understanding. I'll admit that its a bit of a blind spot for me as a listener, as most of my FNF knowledge comes *from* SiIvaGunner team's exceptionally high-effort rips of the game and its many fan-made offshoots. In a way, the spirit of the FNF modding scene comes from the same place as SiIvaGunner itself - taking the bones of an official work, and inserting any little thing one can think of with that same level of quality. And in terms of quality, it seems that no fangame is more revered than VS Whitty - a project whose titular character is effectively accepted as part of the main canon already.
Whitty is still alive in our hearts <3 <3 celebrates the project and its fantastic music in a rather sentimental rip, as a mashup between lo-fight and Still Alive from the original Portal. The VS Whitty game has three songs that gradually devolve into madness and anger as Whitty gets closer to "detonating", and lo-fight is the very first one - the chill, pleasing back-and-forth at a steady tempo conveys no hostility between parties. And while I, to reiterate, don't really have much of an attachment to FNF beyond what SiIva has been doing with the game, its remarkable how the simple addition of Still Alive's instrumental and opening line by GlaDOS give the rip such a sentimental, bittersweet aura. The cherry on top is of course halfway into the rip, where Whitty and Boyfriend's vocal lead of lo-fight is broken up entirely for the two to instead duet the lead to Still Alive. A harmony between the two songs is reached despite having next to nothing to do with one another - and again, despite knowing so little about the FNF-verse and canon its hard not to grow a little emotional in the process of listening to it.
There's always a lot of ways one can take mashups, from jokes that make sense together thematically, to ones that feel as if they harmonize perfectly, to ones that would simply be funny out of absurdity (these are some of my favorites, shoutouts to Loopdeloop Griddy). Yet I also love rips like Whitty is still alive in our hearts <3 <3, that feel like there really wasn't much of a drive to pick these two songs in particular for the mashup. That is, of course, aside from the most important part - the ripper's own passion for the music and media they love, and the emotions they can bring out of their craft. Though seeming deceptively simple at first, Whitty is still alive in our hearts <3 <3 planted its hooks in me and has refused to let go.

welcome back, or welcome.
hello ~ sorry i don't post much here. school's started up for me again, and the new semester is rather scary.
right now, k-pop isn't exactly top priority — i still listen to the music — and the most recent news i've caught up with is that hanbin had his aotm and that minsung live together. i do want to write for the stuff ive planned for or just wanted to explore, but ....... ive face-planted into the infamous writing block. ueueueuuuhhhh...
there will be no promises of a prominent and consistent return, but perhaps i'll post every once in a while; some writing or smaus ~~ or something like my other text posts where i fool around, to let you know that i'm still here. just. very all over the place..
here are some fics to expect:
- gunwook x reader : sickfic
- smau series with four different stories
utc is just other stuff that you might not be interested in
what have you been up to?
recently, i've enjoyed pokemon pathways and roblox pressure! the former is more recent, and honestly, it's rather addictive. its a pokemon fangame that allows your choices to make an actual impact on your life!! you can be an absolute angel to everybody and have light aura,,, you can be a fucking menace and have dark aura .... or balance both and be neutral!
i fistfought a pokemon and got dark aura.. but in my defense, the mon's owner was a CREEP!!!!!! AND KEPT STALKING THIS GIRL I MET AT THE ARCADE!!!!!! and i disnt yave pokemon lol
as for. pressure. erm.. im not so normal about that game. i know majority of its lore. ill spare you the details on that one.
eeerhh... and as mentioned earlier, im struggling a little in school ^^;;; the classmates from last year that ended up in my new class are those who i'm not close to,,, majority of the others are from the other sections,,, and three transferees. it's hard to make friends ^^;;;;............ and apparently, the section id gotten into is very very competitive. they've had four consecutive wins during certain school events, which adds onto the already existing pressure (heh) we have... uuuuueeeehehehehhhhhhhhhh
but I'm trying my best!!!
#ovrtimelove.chr#kasintahan : text#i will try my hardest here... and there... and everywhere...#ahhh so scary#both school + games + posting#uehhh

seeing as it's sycamore sunday and all, I feel it's only right to ask for him in the ask game
ask game
1) three facts about them from my personal headcanons
Des knows Tagalog (Rachel's native language) better than Hershel or Leon; Des went to boarding school after the Bronevs were kidnapped; enjoys historical fiction
2) a reason they suck
really awful at concealing his identity when he's not pretending to be someone completely different
3) a reason they are great
he is very much a jack of all trades in many regards
4) a reason I relate to them
uhhhh. we're both into history?
5) (what I consider to be) the top tier otp/ ot3 for that character
him and his significant other. all the other people I ship him with are varying levels of "for the bit"
6) five things that never happened to that character that I believe should have happened
he should have told Hershel they were brothers in London
post-canon weird teenager adoption scenario. I can't find my fangame proposal but basically that.
he changes his last name to Layton, not for Hershel but for Roland and Lucille
HE SHOULD HAVE MET CLAIRE.
undercover in targent arc before last specter. this could be cool. idk I'm spitballing here anon I really don't think about him that much
7) five people that character never fell in love with and why
Emmy. Even without their bonds to Leon, I don't really get where this one comes from.
Randall. Even if you think they did something together, they probably weren't in love.
Dimitri. Even if you think they knew each other at some point, I think it leans more "recognition of self in the other (derogatory)" than "recognition of self in the other (affectionate)"
Henry. This is funny but like any romantic expression from Des towards Henry while he's disguised as Angela are out of misguided obligation rather than true affection.
Jakes. "What an ugly little man you are" etc etc.
#professor layton#pl spoilers#miracle mask spoilers#azran legacy spoilers#answered ask#anonymous#i'm so sorry anon i just. really do not have enough thoughts to fill all this up

Pokemon King & Queen
Pokemon K&Q is a fangame set in Orvana, a region that consists of two islands - Ruvia and Valorik. You and your twin live on a ranch with your father while your mother is away being the champion of the region. As you traverse Orvana, you will find 'dungeons', pockets of reality in which a primary type thrives with complete shiny odds but you cannot use regular pokeballs in them due to the space-time disruptions, but these balls do not become available until you've beaten the first gym. The elite four and a connected city will be on the island you don't start on.
This region is somewhat open world, and the gym leaders will change their teams based on how many pokemon you have. There will be some locations blocked off because you don't have the right pokemon or don't have enough team members, and others like the elite four and the second island may be blocked off by badge count. Some areas will also be without access according to story progression, but these will mostly be tied to evil team actions.
(poll at the bottom)
Mechanics
Depending on if you choose the Queen or King version of the game, you will start on different islands with access to different pokemon. When you reach the second island, the pokemon the other 'version' has access to become available at extremely low chances to preserve 'version seperation' without the need to figure out how to implement trades but they are only available on the second island.
Speaking of trades, I am thinking about them happening when you move between islands instead, meaning they don't become available until you're halfway through the game, but they will have to be holding an item.
I have four primary mechanical additions.
First is pokemon with three types. I have a mechanic similar to tera but it doesn't replace a type it adds, and the legendaries will likely both have 3 types without any extra items, or have a 'powered down' form in the same manner as Zacian and Zamacenta. This is essentially a reskinned mega evolution combined with tera typing.
Second, I added 2 more types, partially just so the Elite Four (which focus on a single type) don't overlap with gyms but allow all types to be used. (I'm thinking about the champion using a random team typing but that one is still uncertain).
Cosmic
Strong: Fairy, Dark
Weak: Psychic, Dragon
Resist: Sound
Sound
Strong: Psychic, Fighting
Weak: Electric, Ground
Resist: Dragon
Third is my gyms being dual-typed. I have some already figured out but not all of them
Grass/Rock
Cosmic/Fairy
Psychic/Sound
Fighting/Ground
Electric/Water
The Elite Four will be 'weaker' types - Normal, Bug, Ice, and Poison
Fourth is shiny dungeons. Like the safari zone you can only use special pokeballs for the dungeons, but you can still fight the pokemon with increased experience gain. These dungeons are being created by the evil team trying to manipulate probability among other things to force the legendaries to show up.
Maps
These are the most recent images I have for the areas in the region.
First is Valorik's Overgrove Town.
This lovely area is nestled between a forest and some mountains and is home to the Grass/Rock Gym leader Rosetta who's ace is a regional marowak.
The pond is home to many magikarp, but you might find a few menashell, rowdy water/fighting types.
Second is Valorik's Fenn Ranch.
This has been covered before but I added more space to the pens and moved the berry farm. Each pen houses s different variety of animal.
Top left contains Miltank, Tauros, and the regional prevo of both, Kalva, a small blue cattle.
Top right contains Mareep and Wooloo, as well as a Stoutland to keep an eye on them and a Lillipup in training to be a herd dog.
Middle pen contains Ponyta, Rapidash, Mudbray, and Mudsdale.
Bottom Pen contains Torchic and the currently unnamed Turkey Pokemon - Which will likely be Normal/Fighting, Ground/Fighting, or Normal/Ground.
Poll Closed
(feel free to reblog and share with friends)
That's it for this update! See ya next time with a list of Pokemon gaining the Sound or Cosmic types!

Favorite Color: i have a hard time choosing… i usually answer grey as the best general purpose answer, but i also like reserved warm greens, bright orange, and eyestrain blue.
Last Song: haven't listened to much lately, except for a few vocaloid songs here and there. i currently have 問題児P - 地球を削る巨大な歯車 (Giant Gears Grinding the Earth/“World Rock Drill”), Kikuo - As it is, as it is, without change, and r-906 - Panopticon 2021 stuck in my head.
Last Movie: i watched The Rodfellows Movie after it was brought up in the most recent Patricia Taxxon video and that definitely counts. aside from that, i had been watching a few old movies with my dad, and i think the most recent were The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and True Grit. and before that i think would just be Barbie and Oppenheimer back when people were watching those together.
Currently Watching: nothing right now, though recently i picked back through my ‘introductory anime’ list that i made to try to go through last winter. i'm very late to the party on all that, but even moreso now because i also sprinkled in a couple of shows from the current season at the time to try to be relevant. all of that to say i watched WataMote and Bocchi the Rock! a few weeks ago, which was a fun surprise in that there was more to contrast between the two than i was expecting. unlikely i'm going to watch anything else soon, but if i do the main three ones left are lain, bebop, and utena.
Currently Reading: i haven't been reading anything though i probably should… i still have a short list to get to but i'm not really in the mood right now. anyway i'm hijacking this section to be about games instead because i've been catching up on a lot of those after only trying one or two per year for the longest time. recently finished Braid, Outer Wilds, and Superliminal, and up next planning to try Rain World (top priority at a friend's behest), A Short Hike, IMMORTALITY, and SIGNALIS. i've also started a few more in-depth skill games and puzzle games, but because those are made to put more dedicated time in, they're pushed to the side for now.
Currently Working On: writing a small programming language with an effect system so that i can use it in other projects. in particular i wanted it for a Touhou fangame (or if i fail to finish that, at least a skeletal engine for one) to describe bullet patterns, but i think it could also be useful for some audio coding stuff i wanted to try. of course, this is PL brainrot because both of those are already solved problems, but it's fun to work on. i still feel like i'm a creative downturn, not for lack of ideas but because over the past half decade i've gotten a lot worse at seeing anything to completion, so i'm also continually trying to get used to doing more small creative stuff, but not much has come of that so far.
Current Obsession: really into Touhou right now. yeah.
Who I'm tossing the potato to: i don't know many people on tumblr, and many of the tumblr people i don't-know were already tagged… i guess @mickelbach and @tenqi if they'd like, since we've talked before at least. anyone else feel free as well of course.

random ask since i'm in a pokemon mood: have you played any rom hacks? if so, which ones are your favorites?
DAIHSAKAFFOOOOOOH V I CAN TALK ALL DAY ABT ROM HACKS!!! I AM CACKLING LIKE A MANIAC RN THIS IS MY CHANCE
okokok ik you asked abt rom hacks but im gonna include hacks AND fangames cause tbh i always put em in the same category (illegal pokemon games)
the best, most top tier, most BRILLIANT fangame of all time is a game by ekat n michael called pokemon ashen frost. bestie @frostbite-yinny can vouch for how amazing this game is. basically its a crime noir pokemon game that takes place in one huge ass city. you play as a detective with a swinub as a partner n the game is split into cases rather than gyms. my words arent enough to describe how high quality and genuis this game is. the story is deep n intricate n so beautifully told. n ohmygosh the SETTING. the city of riverview feels so,,, real. like i literally miss being there. the MUSIC too!!! its so jazzy n compliments the setting n story so well. n dont even get me STARTED on those CHARACTERS,,, you will get ATTATCHED. n i mean it. the end a the latest demo literally had me WEEPING. it features a talking protagonist which rlly helps you bond w the other characters. basically, ashen frost is a story abt people that takes place in the pokemon world, n thats what i adore abt it. i IMPLORE anyone who likes pokemon to play this game. im not saying that cause its my favorite, but bc to not play this game is literally a disservice to yourself. in fact i'll even give you a download link,,, here ya go
ahem. anywho. as for actual rom hacks, my favorite is easily pokemon fire red rocket edition. pokemon but you play as a member a team rocket!!! its such a breath a fresh air. a fun way to play through kanto, which is definitely needed seeing as most ppl have played through kanto 53629523 times. n the STORY??? goes HARD. theres a twist at the end that changes the way you see the story of red n blue. it takes the game from really great to fuckin BRILLIANT.
special shoutout to my first rom hack n the one that got me into all this,,, its a fire red hack by @shima-draws n its basically the story of fire red but your rival has a crush on you n flirts w you throughout the course a the game. my gateway drug n the reason i was able to play through kanto <3 her post abt it is here
another special special game is pokemon legends of the arena. another BRILLIANT n unique fangame that has you travelling the region while participating in a tournament rather than a gym challenge. amazing characters, a talking protagonist which is AWESOME, n an amazing soundtrack!!! the story is absolutely FANTASTIC too. n theres a breathtaking sidequest too. n theres like three different endings!!! which i love!! i got the true ending on the first try hehe ;))
i also cant help but love pokemon insurgence. as my first fangame i have a lotta nostalgia for it. look man, this ones FUN. its got super cool delta pokemon which are essentially regional forms before regional forms were regional forms. the story is a fun level of over the top n i love the inclusion of some a my favorite canon pokemon characters. also, this game made me cry. not bc a the story, but bc its fuckin HARD. n my ass was playing on NORMAL difficulty.
some other rom hacks ive played are pokemon gaia n pokemon glazed but tbh its been so long i dont remember much abt em,,, heh.
#if yall only take one thing from this let it be PLAY POKEMON ASHEN FROST!!!#Max Be Normal About Pokemon Challenge (IMPOSSIBLE!!!)#ty for the ask <3#pokemon

So I'm playing Pokémon Uranium, despite it being out for years I've never actually beaten it and I wanted to change that so here I am
But the point of this post being... NUPIN MY BELOVED... I LOVE MY LITTLE AMOEBA DOG...
[ID: An image of Nupin, a fan made Pokémon from the fangame Pokémon Uranium. It looks like a slug with six stubby legs, though only four are visible due to its angle. Its main body is yellow, with its back and the top of its head being lime green; its back has a patch that is striped dark green and yellow. On its head is a U shape that is dark green with yellow tips. It has one large, green eye with three eyelashes and no other facial features. In black text above it is written "#88 Nupin". End ID.]
LOOK AT IT! IT'S BABY!
#original post#I LOVE THEM.#mine is named chaos (after a genus of unicellular organisms including the giant amoeba)#i will protect them with my life#pokemon#pokémon#fakemon#fakémon#pokemon uranium#pokémon uranium#nupin

The top right drawing is a fakemon, a middle evo between Magikarp and Gyarados. They look like a small, short pink gyarados with a larger head crest that covers their eyes so only their snout sticks out. Their whiskers fly out around the yellow crest. Yellow fins run down their back. They have arms with cat-like claws, and Magikarp-like pink fins on the elbows. They also have three blunt teeth visible in their open mouth. inspired by one of my fave fakemon, Brainoar from fangame pokemon uranium. The final two drawings are of pokemon sprite-like, four-legged creatures with manes of pink wool that grows along their front legs and paws. The top of their bare head is visible, brown with two sharp narrow ears sticking up, and an angular red eye. Pink wool covers the bottom of their face. The two fakemon are both looking off to the right and are in slightly different poses, one with a paw lifted and one with crouching front legs.

Make a Great Miscalculation
Expectation: Knock out over a single tier in a single stream, and have energy to stream the day after. Reality: Barely make it through tier 1 in three hours, lacking the energy to stream the day after meaning slogging through the lower tiers across months and also lacking vocal cords because you wanted to voice an old man rambling so badly.
As MaGMML3's release and my stream approached, I figured I could try streaming the entire thing bottom to top. Flash forward to after the stream, and this turned out to be an obvious miscalculation.
The thing I did with MaGMML2? Where I started higher up and went back eventually? Not a bad idea, as it happens! Not perfect, but a lot better than trying to stream the biggest ever fangame as an average adult in his 30s!
For a starters, this means MaGMML3 as a streaming project is essentially on a hiatus for now. And while I considered doing more chill things like Balatro in the meantime, my streaming in general will as well. Another given is that I will play most of the tiers off-stream, at least the first 9.
Beyond that, things are not set in stone. My current idea is to alternate one of the higher tiers with a select few levels in the lower ones I've marked to stream. I will either return to streaming at tier 11 or maybe 10. That's still around 60 levels plus everything else, but it's a lot better than the 200+ past-week-me was planning to do!
In the meantime, maybe expect Wildchalice? Either way, stay tuned for news on when I return, because honestly I can't tell when I'm ready, nor do I want to make hard promises lest I overtax myself.
See you sometime later!

Undertale Yellow has no business being this good while being an Undertale fangame, they legit just released a fanmade Undertale prequel. Not only does it have really well written and designed OCs when usually even one half well written OC in a fangame is like striking gold in the Arctic (I think Martlet is now my favourite Undertale character period, she's a total birdbrain but she's doing her best ok, and adorable while doing it) that match the themes and tone of the original, but there's only like three canon characters included and none of them are Sans. Hell he's not even referenced, this game deserves a reward for making an Undertale fangame without Sans alone, I thought that was impossible. Plus, the soundtrack slaps almost as hard as the original (it's how I found out about the game lol, rare YT recommendations W, haven't even watched anything UT related in years).
The original is still overall a better game, some of Yellow's attack controls are janky (looking at you Axis and El Bailador), some of the attacks can make you wish you were playing Shin Megami Tensei 3 for how bullshit RNG can make them (a certain final boss' wall but with one gap in them attack can go fuck itself for all the times the next one spawns with the gap near the top while I'm at the bottom on the side I am on), and spoilerless Undertale hits harder in the feels when it counts, but Yellow isn't all that far behind, which is fucking incredible given Undertale is still one of the best games ever made.
Still not going to interact with the fandom because no thank you (I don't count playing a fangame as interacting with the fandom), I am perfectly capable of enjoying something without interacting with its fans, but I can appreciate a damn good fangame when I play one.
