The Brozone Misconception

(This picture is more a joke don't take it too seriously)

This is a kind of long analysis, deep dive, and discussion about certain fandom misconceptions. I am 100 percent open for discussion but I would ask that you read the whole thing first before reaching out, and please be respectful!

Essay under the cut

There is a common misconception in a small subset of the trolls fandom about the character of Brozone. That is their reaction and treatment of Branch, their overall purpose in the story, and whether or not Branch should have forgiven them. Whether or not their trauma born toxic traits which they aim to grow out of should be forgiven or not.

Let’s begin with an analysis of the beginning, middle, and end of their arc progression more or less.

We start with our favorite problem child, Jonathan Dorian, mounting the pressure of tonight's show, building expectations, and showing us, the audience, a bit of what goes on every time these guys perform: 

Making Bruce do 100 more push ups in the time before showtime (1 minute) 

Pressuring Clay to wear the funderdrawers even tho he clearly doesn’t want to 

Rebuffing floyds attempts to calm himself down

And his worst crime

Making Baby Branch Nervous

Now you could see all of these and think “Evil! Evil John Dory! Jail for John DOry for 1000 years!!” because he is being oh so toxic. Now JD’s main motivation for pushing his brothers so hard in this moment has to do with the “Perfect Family Harmony” which according to baby Branch no one has ever hit before

And you can see the strain it puts on the other brothers not just through the scenes i showed before but Clay literally tells us

John Dory not only sees it as a great achievement, but he is putting his own and his families self worth all on whether or not they accomplish the perfect family harmony

And when they fail he blames it on them not following his lead 

He still believes after all of that that they can successfully complete the Perfect Family harmony 

This looks to be about the first time the brothers air their grievances out to their older brother about how they actually feel about not only completing the harmony, but the direction of the band itself.

All of this happens within the heat of the moment, and only continues to get worse as when confronted with all of this Negativity JD decides to leave. You can see by his facial expressions in the above screenshots he was already feeling terrible about the situation as a whole. Animation is very show don’t tell just as much as live action is, it’s very important for storytelling as a whole. A character should not have to SAY they are remorseful for you to be able to see it.

So JD leaves leading his other brothers to leave as well. Ironically they are following his lead badum dum dum. 

Now we can assume this is probably par for the course for these guys, cuz Grandma is right there, and she just lets them leave, you say plot convenience I say subtle story telling/ It is implied they do this all the time and will eventually come back. (they don’t)

Now you may be thinking, Ricky, you say that Brozone is not toxic, yet you show us the worst examples of their character. Listen dear reader, this is only the beginning, what I’ve shown you is merely the establishment of the eventual conflict that will be part of the driving force behind character growth and the story itself. 

Let’s move on to adulthood. The main arguments against Brozone happen here, other than the initial abandonment of Branch, which, I should remind you, happened when the oldest among them was still a teenager (teenagers are dumb). 

In this section I also have to mention another movie, and another character, as he is usually brought up in these discussions 

Creek

Creek is usually used as a comparison to the Brozone bros in the argument that Brozone is EVIL AND TOXIC AND UNFORGIVABLE and Creek by comparison should be seen in a better light and not deserve the hate. To be honest I have never seen the level of hate that has been given to Brozone leveled at Creek in the slightest. He is canonically a toxic character, and one who is incredibly self serving which a majority of the fandom recognize and vibe with. Creeks admittedly rancid personality is a massive factor in his appeal (at least for me), and that is kind of the point of his character: To be awful and unforgivable. Creek wasn’t made as your average side character, Creek was specifically made to be an antagonist, to be a contrast to one of our main protagonists, Branch. That is why they are always at odds with each other within both 3D media and 2D media.

Creek has also shown disregard for Branch’s hobbies in the main show, tossing his puzzle into the fire. This was during Haircuffed, when Creek didn’t want to do Branch’s puzzle

Which you think not so bad, its just a puzzle! Well…

Puzzle’s have incredible significance to Branch, a comfort object if you will, and another way to feel connected to his Grandma. Now you might cry “Creek didn’t know it was significant! He can’t be held responsible for that!” HE SHOULDN’T HAVE TO KNOW THE TRAUMA BEHIND THE PUZZLE TO NOT DESTROY THE PUZZLE.

Conversely let's look at the Brothers:

Throughout the course of the film they are a bit rude to Branch and dismissive of him:

But anyway

These scenes are minor things that add up during the course of the film for the purpose of showing off the traits they will put aside and grow out of for the sake of each other.

Lets talk about Xmen, you think JD is bad well watch this

Anyway

Before we tackle the entire argument scene let’s first tackle the individual character of each of the bros, Specifically: John Dory, and Bruce, who are most criticized for their actions.

John Dory is one of the first brothers we see return in the film, and his first and foremost objective is to collect Branch so that they can go get their other brothers to rescue Floyd. Some have called John Dory uncaring for his younger brothers, but if that were the case why start the rescue mission at all? An uncaring brother would just ignore the letter and go on with his life, but John Dory literally drops everything just to go rescue his little brother. The letter even specified getting the other brothers first, but John Dory goes alone to get Floyd out of danger as fast as possible only retrieving the other bros when he fails (and cuz he didnt know where they were, can’t waste time when you got a brother to save)

A brother who didn’t care about his family wouldn’t go through all this effort. Some would say he’s only doing it for appearances sake, but for whom? Him and his brothers have been out of the limelight for 20 years, JD especially has been isolated in the neverglades, who is he trying to impress with this? No one, he’s just a good brother.

Also a reminder! When thinking about breaking Floyd out he is not the first to bring up the harmony! Floyd is, John Dory had a much more clever idea

So it's not just to complete the harmony either.

He’s also held on to all the merch from their Brozone days, mementos of his family, it shows how he cares, but also the flaw he aims to overcome: his desperate attempt to cling to the past, the better days.

Now let's go to Bruce, easily the most scrutinized of the brothers (because of the baby comment) 

When he first sees his brothers again this is his reaction: 

(Another point for JD, got ignored but is more happy to see his bros getting along)

Bruce is excited to introduce them to his family, excited to reconnect.

“It’s so nice to finally meet you” Implies that he’s talked about them at length and the possibility of them meeting up with one another.

Also all of his kids completely ignore their mom, just to ask their father something, or tell on their sibling, or ask for his help as seen in this entire clip

With the ketchup kid he assures his kid he will handle it (and yes Brandy had to handle it but um rescue mission?) and that he loves them he just needs a bit of time to address, um who was it again? His brothers, right…

Bruce is argued as being incredibly selfish, I had seen a meme once that had suggested Bruce would let his own children die before he would give up his own life, which is horrendous and blatantly untrue. Bruce only tries to turn away his brothers when John Dory brings up the perfect family harmony and that’s before he knows it's for Floyd, once he finds out it’s for Floyd he is immediately on board! His biggest concern about the harmony at this time is how they’re going to do it. 

As for “abandoning his family again” Bruce is going on a rescue mission, which he asks his wife before hand if it is alright

Which she approves, he also agrees to cover for a WHOLE MONTH for the yoga retreat (Also seen in the clip above)

He spends the majority of the journey caring for Tiny Diamond as well, he lets Tiny into his hair, carries him around in a baby sling he’s a dad to any kid who needs him.

Clay doesn’t get as much scrutiny as either of the older bros, most likely due to his inability to leave the golf course and the fact he apologizes to Branch at the end. There are many things that mimic the same in the ending scene but let’s address the points brought up within the argument that people use to claim the evilness of Brozone. 

Also fun reminder, Clay is the one to start the fight, Not John Dory, not Bruce, Clay just a fun note (he is a lil problematic and argumentative and thats why i love him)

Clay brings up John Dory being bossy which sets everyone off into a tangent about the past, past actions that they think are resurfacing

Clay: No. No, dude. You’re forcin' us to be perfect, just like you always have, so we can hit the perfect family harmony.

John Dory: Yeah. For Floyd.

Bruce: Is it? Or is this all just so you can tell people what to do again?

John Dory: Wha What?

Bruce: This isn’t gonna work if you keep on bein' the same old John Dory.

We all know John Dory’s reason for being “bossy” ; his reason for his perfection, once done out of an effort to impress, is now one out of necessity. They need to be perfect because now someone can die, and the others can’t see that due to their own trauma at the hands of JD’s perfectionism. 

As shown way at the beginning of the essay, all of the brothers suffered at the hands of JD’s past obsession, Bruce had to look a certain way pushing his body past its limits, Clay had to act a certain way disregarding his own happiness to keep up an image, Floyd was ignored and his advice pushed aside, and Branch was pushed to be perfect when he was only about 2 years old (or a month old if you go by the brozone blog). JD also suffered, pushing himself to make song after song, mentally exhausting himself and inadvertently hurting his brothers in the process of doing what he thinks is right for them. 

JD also had the responsibility (as a teen) to parent all of his younger brothers:

John Dory: Why do you think I moved to the middle of nowhere? So I didn’t have to be in charge of anyone. Four little brothers is a lot of responsibility.

You could argue it's his responsibility as the oldest but Grandma was right there, they shouldn’t be his sole responsibility. 

When most of them left it was done out of self preservation, to protect their sanity and to finally find happiness outside of a place that was no longer bringing it to them. They were kind of acting how most would want Branch to act, they cut out the toxic family for their own safety.

Bruce: [stammers] Why do you think I left? So no one would treat me like you did.

Clay:

Clay: I’m gonna find trolls who take me seriously. Next to Clay is a picture of himself in a graduation cap

(Also that is Clays graduation photo, they are all around teen years in  the prologue which means this is either a middle school graduation photo or he graduated early and is still not taken seriously, which as someone who also faces that [only being seen one way despite your achievements] is incredibly discouraging and soul destroying) 

They most likely didn’t return due to the fact they didn’t want to be faced with this kind of treatment again (golf course entrapment aside) 

(Now you’re probably wondering about Floyd and he’s a whole other post, this is mostly focusing on the brothers who receive the most criticism due to misrepresentation)

During the argument they talk about going their separate ways, it is admittedly harsh they way they talk about leaving again, but they never say they’re leaving forever. Bruce has to return to his wife and kids, Clay left the golf course without one of its leaders, JD has his own life and routine, of course they’d go back to it once it was over, but that doesn’t mean visiting is off the table, and that they’d never see each other again.

Again i recognize JD is being an asshole here, but he is only knocking the idea of living together off the table, which kind of understandable they’re all adults with their own lives they don’t need to live together, I don’t get mad at my sister for going back to her house when shes done visiting. But again it is more how they say it then what they’re saying

Branch: [scoffs] Oh, I’m sorry. Is that funny to you? That I might want us to actually be a family again? Tiny Diamond, pull over. Now.

Seen is JD's look of regret

You can see on his face that he regrets what he said when Branch says this, when he gets angry at him, he didn’t mean it like that. Thats when the don’t be a baby comment comes in, they still don’t actually understand why he’s upset, they think he’s acting childish, they don’t recognize he’s changed yet

These are their faces when they hear what Branch has been through, they obviously are upset, they’re hurt on his behalf, they are remorseful, this and their future actions signify the shift from who they were (hurt kids turned hurt adults, fighting over their past trauma) 

After Branch leaves, they, on their own accord, continue the mission to save Floyd, which is how they get caught, and during the final climax control freak JD relinquishes control, having changed and lets Branch take the lead. This is after Branch reminds them they don’t have to be perfect to be in harmony, just to be as they are together which they AGREE

Once they save Floyd we are brought to Bruce’s restaurant, he brings them there to host their reunion, there is where branch gets encouragement from JD, where Clay apologizes, where Floyd reminisces and you can see JD engaging with his brothers more than just encouraging Branch he has joined Clays sad book club

This isn’t the end of their reconnection, this is only the beginning. They still have lots of time to grow, and to become closer as family. 

Now lets head back to Creek for a moment before we close this off:

We have brought up the puzzle destruction and his purpose as an antagonist. The main argument most people use is that Creek had no other choice but to sell out his entire race to be eaten and killed to save himself. He had a choice, Branch would’ve let himself get eaten if it meant protecting all of troll village as noticed when he protects poppy in twt (though he might’ve actually found another way out), Poppy would’ve as well. In tbt Floyd begs each of his brothers who meets him before the climax to let him die so they don’t face the same fate, these are all selfless acts. Creek reacts selfishly, eat everyone else but don’t eat me, then he smugly confronts Poppy, obnoxiously laments about how he has to live with his actions when if he were a truly good and selfless character wouldn't have been an issue. He smiles smugly, shrugs his shoulders, and lets himself be carried to safety when his people look at his betrayal with disbelief and sadness. 

Creeks actions in the 1st movie are awful, they’re supposed to be, they’re meant to be unforgivable crimes, and that is why he is killed in the 3D canon, legit he is dead in the 3D canon. 2D and 3D are different continuities, which is part of why I find them (Brozone and Creek) to be mostly incomparable.

Brozone’s arc only affects Branch and each other and in the end they grow stronger, and into better people. Creeks arc/actions affect an entire species and their survival, within the 2D continuity his actions only continue to be self serving, and rather toxic (more for funsies but you know) he should not have been forgiven, but he was. His actions were deplorable yet forgiven which then begs the question why aren’t Brozones? Creek also wrote the apology song solely to humiliate Branch in front of his friends which is not cool bro, Branch did not deserve the treatment he got in the episode from anyone. 

To conclude my thoughts are that Creek and Brozones actions are incomparable, Creek’s actions are not meant to be taken in a positive or sympathetic light, he is a villain cut and dry, that is who he was made to be and he does it wonderfully. I don’t hate Creek, I love his character, he is awful and that is great! Love toxic awful characters! Brozone are a representation of a broken family coming together again, they are toxic, and then they grow, they are meant to do so, the villains of that movie are Velvet, Veneer, and familial trauma all of which get mended by the end of the film. It’s not perfect but its there, and the ignorance of it is what causes these major misconceptions.

❆ I feel like he's less cold (dumb joke xD) at night, I imagine something like, in public the most you'll get from him is him being by your side, sometimes keeping you company but at night he would put his head on your shoulder without saying anything or hug you, that kind of thing.

❆If you insist on training with him, he would be a little less rough in the blows he gives you, although he will probably never mention it, he wants to remain serious and mysterious 🥷🥷

❆ He can sense when you are sad or in a bad mood, maybe it is because he knows you very well or maybe it is because you do not hide how well you feel, whatever it is, he has already prepared a hug for the night while you continue sleeping.

I have a question about your Mob psycho x Saiki k au

do the mob cast know that his hair pins are actually limiters cause I read through the comics (for the hundredth time) and didn’t find him saying that they were limiters once and I can imagine them finding out in two ways 1 the funnier way of Saiki just bringing it up in casual conversation or 2 Mob accidentally hitting his limiters and Saiki not noticing until he tries to land on the ground and creating a crater by mistake

Anyways this was just a silly thought in my head when I was going through comics byeee :P

Okay so!

Saiki's limiters are very important to him, we all know this, and the only people who knows are his family and thr Psychickers for obvious reasons. But Kusuo isn't one to outright talk about it so he never does.

And this leads to some fun things!

Dimple 100% knows that those aren't normal hairpins, but he doesn't know what else they could be for other than controlling his ESP. Tends to lean on Mob by saying *He's faking his control.*

Mob and Reigen on the other hand? Well-

Reigen 100% thinks it's just a comfort item. Especially since Siaki is never seen without them. Presumably a memento from his family and Mob simply follows along.

This theory doubles when Saiki panics after loosing one and they go to search for it.

So i'm fully aware that the left hairpin is the one that actually mutes his power and his right one is (essentially) a detonator. But i prefer to have it where the Right one still holds back a chunk of his power (alongside the detonator) and his left one just solidifies it. So without the left one, he's still crazy strong, but without both, it's insurmountable.

And it all comes into play during the fight with Tochiro Suzuki.

By this point, Saiki and Mob both have a better handle on their ESP but they still don't come up to the power of Tochiro unless they loose that fear of holding back.

And what fun would it be for Tochiro to slam down both of them and Saiki being unable to move when both his limiters break at once. And now he's stuck, struggling to control both his body and mind in the heat of a battle he should never have been a part of (lie)

I love the thought that at this point, Saiki is more centered and aware, that he's taken Reigen's teachings to heart and finds other ways to work through and with his ESP instead of against. And yes it's so painful and still the thoughts of others are overwhelming but he's finally (finally!) Able to pick himself up and work with it.

And Reigen and Dimple (possessed) are there and trying to help him up, and Reigen looks so apologetic, so sorry that it Set's Kusuo on edge.

"I'm sorry, we couldn't find your hairpins." Reigen reaches over and grabs his hand to help him up. "We'll try and find them, but if we can't, i'll help you make some new ones. I know they were a comfort item so i hope we find them instead."

And the battle is going on, meanwhile Kusuo is sitting there like

This is such a silly idea, but I thought you’d appreciate it: so, I was re-reading ftbl, and my brain was like, ‘wait… what if this was somehow set in modern times’. Like all the events of Epic still happened, Athena’s still a goddess, it just looks like our world. Don’t ask about the logistics of this because the REASON I thought of this was:

1. I had a sudden image of Athena wearing pyjamas with owls on them. It was probably Penelope’s idea — if Athena is stuck in bed, she might as well be comfortable. So Pen goes out shopping and comes back with owl pyjamas. Athena is trying not to cry because when was the last time anyone actually cared about her being comfortable?

2. If the fam are living in like a regular house instead of a palace, I can definitely imagine that scene from ftbl where Athena is feeling temporarily better and she and the others sit on the balcony instead being that she manages to come downstairs for a little while and she’s just sitting on the sofa wrapped in blankets.

3. The TV is on for background noise and the weather report comes on and there’s all these warnings about thunderstorms. Athena and Ody are both terrified and trying to act like they’re fine, but it’s not working. 🥲

4. Sad thought: a lot of houses have central heating, right? Which warms the room a lot quicker than a fireplace. This sounds nice until you consider: Athena during a fever spike, shivering and deliriously begging the others to turn the heat on, she’s so cold, but they can’t because she’s actually burning up and they don’t want to raise her temperature even more. (Maybe that’s what made Ody realise she had a fever to begin with — she said that the room was freezing despite the heat being on full blast.)

I’m so sorry, my brain was like ‘owl pyjamas!!!’ and wouldn’t leave me alone until I’d typed all this out 😂 anyway, your writing is awesome and so are you!!!! Have an amazing day!!! 😁

Okay, I just finished watching Transformers One, and this is my take on it. so buckle in, cause this is gonna get deep

First things first. The movie is GREAT! I'm loving the animation style and lore, take that bayverse! This is definitely gonna give new fans a fantastic idea of transformers at its finest. I'm so excited for the new generation of transformers fans that are gonna be raised on this

Me and @fusciaguardian had actually been talking about how a new transformers movie should turnout, before the trailers had even come out. It's the funniest thing, cause we had both agreed that it should go back before the war, and take lots of notes from Transformers Prime. And look at this! A dude from the prime team literally designed the thing, and it was staged before the war!!

Gotta say, I rlly love the lore and history for cybertron. it makes sense, and it goes in a understandable line. It includes all the important aspects of the Transformers universe, like the quintissons, the evil system that lead to Megatron's motivation, and sentinel prime being a jerk XD

But like seriously, stop making main female characters pink. Idk, MAKE THEM RED, MAKE THEM MULTICOLORED. Like seriously, both Arcee and Elita-1 are main female leads and are still pink. Why has nobody fixed this? TFP was onto something, Arcee looked great blue! And Beast wars the movie made Arcee red! Those are great color choices!

I guess this is prolly where we go into everything that went wrong with the movie.

Like serious, everything was great until Orion Pax decided to suddenly be the 'better person' and stop D-16 from taking out the jerk that literally abused and hurt an entire planet of people! Like, if megayron didn't do it, then I'm sure the 100 million other cybertronians who just realized their entire life was a lie would like to step. LIKE SERIOUSLY ORION. YOU REALLY MESSED UP

and the whole 'leadership' thing at the beginning. Like seriously pax, just cause D-16 wasn't following your orders and going along with your plan (like why even would he? He has literally been the brunt of everything that you messed up. Like that time you stepped out of line, he took the punch for you) and because 'oh no' dark music was playing, didn't mean D-16 was doing anything wrong. He had literally just had his life turned upside down. He was gonna step up, and do something about it. What did you think Pax? That you were gonna be the leader? Well sorry, but the world doesn't always revolve around the white boys.

I just really hated that part. They didn't have to make it like that. Like oh noes, foreshadowing NAH. NAH BRO. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG HAPPENING HERE.

Orion just really messed up. Everything after that point just went to disaster and rubbish. Like, at the end, nobody saw what D-16 did. Nobody knew how he stepped up for his people. How he lead, what he did. And Pax is never gonna tell him. Pax knows what D-16 went through. He knew his best friend was hurting, and he turned on him. And you know what he did afterward? He basically became the next Sentinel Prime. He kept the system that was hurting people in place, and kept information from the public. He didn't tell then what really happened. He painted a pretty picture: Prime good. Megatron and Decepticons back. He didnt give them more options. Limited options, same system, facade of secrets and lies. He is the next Sentinel Prime.

like, not to mention, what are you gonna do about the Quintissons? They're gonna come back, and they're gonna expect their shipload of energon.

Like seriously, what were the Primes even thinking?! Of course they would go for Pax, the teachers pet, lucky little white boy that gets everything without having to work for it like D-16 had to.

But that aside, I've thought of at least two other ways the movie could have gone better.

Pax and D-16 work together. Pax understands D's frustration, and tells him, "you take care of Sentinel Prime, and we'll take care of broadcasting the proof." Two birbs with one stone. Pax listens to D-16's ideas, and realizes that he would make a great leader, he even tells D-16 that he would make a great next Prime. He then takes D-16's as advisor, and they plan out a new and better world together with the people. And what exactly they're gonna do with the Quintissons problem.

Elita-1 and Bee are with D-16 when it happens. Elita was hoping for a punch at Sentinel herself. She is shocked and angered when Prime decides to be a goody-two shoes. And even more horrified when he turns on his own friend. Like seriously, she knew Pax was stupid, but she didn't think he was that stupid. She runs to D-16's side, Bee following (bro rlly doesn't know what's going on, or why his friends are fighting. It makes him sad, he really thought Pax was a nice guy) Elita-1 and Bee retreat with D-16 and the Decepticons. With Prime sitting there like an idiot, being all self-pitying over why his friends are 'betraying' him. Elita and D-16 co-lead, we all know their both good leaders, and Bee is just sort of there. He's almost like the kid of the court, and sweet and innocent, everyone loves him, but he is utterly useless, and does not have a braincell to his name. But they all love him for it. The decepticons male it their goal to reveal Pax's treachery and deceit. And reveal the truth once and for all.

Thats about it, all in all, I loved the movie. Watched it with my family, my mom, my sibling, we'll all with Megatron :3

So, since I've not been in the mood to draw, I've been playing a lot of Scarlet, doing some outbreak hunts and leveling up some old buddies.

Eventually, I thought it would be fun to finally build a Shiny Dream Team.

Darren was already level 100, and has been for years. I started raising Mist the Zoroark, and later Ruri the Gardevoir, and it hit me... I had a good shiny team going! So I went on a scavenger hunt to decide the last three members.

All of them come from various points in my shiny hunting (and not hunting, I'll get to that) timeline, and are all more dear to me than other shinies I have. (Aside from Akoya. Nobody tops her.)

This lovely team consists of:

Darren, male Flygon, Timid, Mischievous; Hatched via Masuda Method in Soul Silver, my first ever hatched shiny.

Mist, female Zoroark, Rash, Somewhat vain; Hatched via Masuda Method in Pokemon Y. I'm sure you can imagine the joy I felt at seeing that it was female. :3

Phillip, male Decidueye, Lax, Takes plenty of siestas; Hatched via Masuda Method in Pokemon Sword.

Sulfur, male Lucario, Hardy, Alert to sounds; Hatched via Masuda Method in Shining Pearl. (Yes I'm throwing him in even though he's part of a separate group. He is a shiny I've acquired of a childhood favorite Pokemon, so he's a Dream Team Shiny~)

Ruri, female Gardevoir, Jolly, Scatters things often; Lucky find in Alpha Sapphire. I was training during a Nuzlocke, and on my way back to heal, the radar thingy went off. When I saw it was a Ralts, I thought "Alright, just in case it's shiny..." It was shiny.

Tira, female Talonflame, Serious, Somewhat of a clown (lol); Extremely lucky first-egg hatch in Y. I can't remember if it was Masuda or not, but I don't think so. (I wasn't hunting for a shiny, I just wanted a Flame Body bird for my bro. XD)

Ironically the two birds are named after characters in book series' I like.

I tried real hard to not have any type overlap, and by my calculations, the only type they have no STAB advantage over is Flying. But there are ways counter that weakness. I'm very happy to see these guys all come together like this. :3

Btw before I sleep;

I have considered a divergent au from the "Nüwa and Fuxi are MK's bio parents" idea where MK, instead of inheriting mostly monkey genetics, took more after his mama and popped out a naga/lamia-like snake demon.

Bonus, MK's scales aren't emerald green like Nüwa's, but rather a mix of golden yellow and orange. Like autumn leaves, or egg noodles floating in spicy broth. His eyes are a very pretty brown-gold color with slitted pupils.

Still has a demon monkey top-half. Wild brown fur all over his head, arms, and torso, and a body-length mohawk of fur going all the way down his snake tail.

Whoever made MK look human in canon def has a harder time hiding that part of him!

Pigsy finds the muddy baby outside his shop and it takes him a moment to realise that the kid wasn't wearing a thick skirt.

Pigsy, washing MK in the sink: "Poor little guy. Even your legs are- uh...?"

Baby MK: (*no legs, just baby snake lower half*)

Pigsy: "Not... there."

Baby MK: (*flickers little forked tongue out at Pigsy's face to smell him*)

Pigsy, trying to make light of the situation: "Either you're one of those indian snake things, or you're the second-biggest noodle I've ever seen."

Baby MK: (*big wide smile! Has no teeth other than two tiny fangs*)

One of the first things Pigsy had to teach MK was to chew his food and not unhinge his jaw willy-nilly. And to not drink things by dunking his whole face in it.

Tang was the unfortunate soul to discover that MK's particular snake species was a "crushing" type - when the baby had a nightmare while wrapped around his arm. He has a copy of the resulting x-rays to prove it. XD

Having a "snake-butt" as MK calls it can be annoying in modern day life, but he's got insane core-body strength as a side effect. Pigsy had to get a specially-designed vehicle before he could let his boy deliver noodles for the restaurant.

Still a super Monkey King fan too, he's still half-monkey after all. Now he just has a bonus appriciation for the story of White Snake. For a while as a child he thought he was the result of a snake-demon/human romance like what happened between Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian.

Snakes and dragons actually have some pretty big cultural tension between them in Chinese lore (snakes are considered "lesser dragons"), so the fact Snakey!MK and Mei would 100% still be besties would be seen as pretty unusual. But when did these two ever conform to societal expectations?

When MK inherits the Staff, Wukong quickly discovers that he can use his tail as a third limb for balance - allowing MK to pull off some pretty unique fight moves!

MK is still terrified of spiders. The fact that baby snakes eat them is besides the point. He'd also get a more serious reaction to LBD's icy powers since cold temperatures cause blinding headaches and loss of conciousness in snakes.

The Celestial Realm gets really nervous when they see that Wukong's successor is a half-snake for some reason. MK personally thinks Nezha's pink scales and horns are cool af.

I cannot give an easy proper answer unless I see more of him since I've only read like... one card story of his...

Whereas, I can easily say I like Satan better because I've seen more of him in the main story and card stories.

He does seem mean in a sense, but it's not him trying to bully MC necessarily from what I see. It's more like he sort of is scolding their behaviour or atleast calling out their behaviour.

Seeing how MC at times can get very... bold. I think it would be nice to have atleast one character to point it out and say something about it. It would also be very... boring if literally every king encouraged them to do whatever they want. They know temptation. They know that humans fall into temptation and can lose a grasp of reality. Depending on who you are you either need a call out for your actions or encouragement to do something.

Also taking his fear and trauma into account. Yeah, he may seem unnecessarily closed off since his trauma is better explained in a certain card which many players probably don't have.

But if I were experimented on in my childhood and had to see many of my friends die as a child I would also be closed off, doubting, wanting some distance.

On top of that, he can't let himself fully loose since he like many in Hades were orphans trapped in heaven without any links to demons in Hell. Heaven and Hell never had a perfect relationship. He knows that other demons would see Hades as a country of spies for angels since the orphans had no way of proving that they were demons. No relatives that could confirm that they're 100% demons.

It was also said once (from chats in the main story) that demons could have children with many species including angels. If a demon and angel had a child together it would probably still show demon traits despite being on the angel's side. To prove that he's on the demon's side he's closed off and presents him in a certain way where others will see that he's serious and not there to goof around. The tension between Hades and the rest of Hell in general would be very heavy.

I think to understand Leviathan is to see that he isn't one to instantly kneel at your feet. He will need some time to open up to you. He might accept you in the stories as s/o but that doesn't mean he's comfortable being completely open.

Leviathan is one of many characters. You don't have to like him. He's there for the people he would attract.

“What fucking weird job makes an ugly Christmas sweater competition?” He used both his hand to grab your waist, using it as reference for the torso of the sweater.

That, yeah that felt really weird in the bottom of Mikey’s stomach. Why did Raph have to loom over you, hand around your pretty neck and smiling to himself.

“Well come by this week, I’m gonna need you while I’m making it.” He finally let go of you, and it took a second of trying to think straight to not jump Raph.

Under a different tone of voice it could’ve been taken playfully but this was the full opposite.

“Chill man, I ain’t stealing ya girl.” He chuckled and if Mikey could blush he would. He glared at Raph, not noticing your own blush creeping up your cheeks.

“Looks like it since you wanna keep her all week.” He was getting up now, less groggy and more peeved than anything.

“Mike—“ Your voice was gentle trying to ease the fast approaching boiling tension in the air.

“Aww, Mikey’s worried his bestie’s gonna be my bestie all week? Man just let it go.” Raph wasn’t even remotely serious poking fun at his younger brother.

It took a few seconds for Mikey to fully comprehend what he had said and the implication behind it. His eyes went wide, landing on your own wide eyes and the blush that scattered itself further down your chest.

DarkBlue ramble

ramble about today's update and Darkblue in genreal because I love them so much X'D

So Blue is 100% right in the fact Dark can just peek into his head to see what he feels about Dark. So Dark asking him up front is kinda "meaningless".

Blue and Dark are both ALREADY blushing before Blue says anything.

Dark is very much aware of Blue's feelings toward him.

But Blue is...Blue lmfao He's loud rude and can't deal with his own emotions.

Which is why when he ACTUALLY acknowledges he thinks Dark is "Cute" of all things (When the rant Dark went on doesn't have to do with that at all) is really funny to me/telling.

Because it's less that Blue thinks Dark is PHYSICALLY cute (I mean he does haha) but also cute in general.

Like THIS is the dude he's calling cute hahaha. (Just SOME of the weird ass faces Dark has made just aimed at Blue lmfao)

I think what's funny about Blue ending up at calling Dark "Cute" is you can take it a few ways.

Blue KNOWS Dark knows what he thinks. So trying to hide his affection towards him at this point is basically meaningless.

He can't deny the truth.

But you can tell from Dark's reaction he wasn't expecting Blue to go with THAT as his answer. He expected something diffrent.

Dark's response back is even funnier to me because it's more classic "Dark Link is super blunt" which is always funny to me.

He doesn't mess with Blue or tease him in response to him opening up about this feelings. (At least not on purpose haha)

Blue's clearly happy Dark thinks that about him.

Since Dark's previously called him "difficult" among other things haha.

They've come a long way since they first fought. XD

He comes off as teasing in page 961 since he honestly asked whether or not he should give Blue more than one kiss but Blue's response propelled him into kinda cheekily responding with "Haha I can read your thoughts, but can't read mine?"

Blue. Ya should have just said your caterpillars needed kisses bro. Dark was offering smh. 😔

Anyway here's some dumb rambles about why I like Darkblue's dynamic because hur dee dur I've kept this in awhile

Something I enjoy about them compared to Blue and Red is that...well Dark Link doesn't pretend to be incapable.

Blue gets annoyed MANY times with how Red isn't that skilled of a fighter and ends up in deep shit because he's either not taking stuff seriously or is acting like an idiot.

Their FIRST meeting for Dark and Blue was that fight. Which Blue fucking started lmfao.

And Dark absolutely mopped the floor with him.

Dark in general is capable of handling his own shit and can be serious when it's asked for.

He actually understands Blue on an emotional level while the others tend to just get annoyed with how Blue acts. (Reasonably so dude's annoying lmfao XD)

But Dark offers understanding.

This is personally funny to me but Blue getting easily flustered around Dark in some part stems from the fact Dark's voice is very feminine and soft spoken.

I just personally think with the manga there's enough evidence to say Blue gets flustered around girls somewhat easily XD

What's really funny about the current convo is you could compare it to their previous one where Blue visited Dark in the headspace to ask if he was really "Difficult".

Dark was so dang happy to see him too haha.

Dark in general feels safe with Blue.

This is just one of those things Blue thinks about later in the comic, but even though Dark is ANGRY (Because of his own spiraling about his identity) he still saves Blue from Vaati's attack.

Blue's the one who not only convinced Dark to stay but asks him up front what HE actually wants out of life and pushes for Dark to live for himself a few times.

Lmao the second panel's "Compliment" might not seem like one but from a guy like Blue it absolutely is XD

Lol it's been brought up a few times that the reason Blue's been more laid back (Compared to the manga) is his guilt for hurting people and in general wanting to be a better person.

And Dark calling him out in their fight really made that a turn around for him.

Blue kinda at a certain point realized Dark tends to say stuff he doesn't fully mean (Due to his nature as a curse) So stops taking it THAT personally and defuses.

He explains it pretty well here lmfao.

What's better to me is that the reigning of each other in isn't one sided since when Blue's tweaking the fuck out after Vio pisses him off Dark's the one to ask him gently if he needs a break and consoles him while he just has a fit lmfao.

Overall I just really think they pair well together for their own arcs and bounce off each other well and I love them so much haha.

I saw your hc about Paradis potentially celebrating Yuletide, and I’m actually really interested in that. The religion in the walls appears to be monotheistic, with the exception of the wallists. There is also some Christian-like imagery, and a lot of aesthetics within the walls that are comparable to irl old churches and early Christian art. The one painting of Fritz in ED 3 reminds me of Byzantine art, in particular. It makes me wonder if there is a Christian-esque religion in their world, similar to how they have fictional country equivalents to our real world countries. Or maybe the religion in the walls is the Christian-equivalent. Anyway, I’d just like to hear more of your cultural or religious headcanons for the world of AOT, if you have more!

Hello anon T___T So very sorry I'm getting around to this so late!

First off, I have to warn you by saying that I'm probably the worst person you could ask about this because... T^T I'm no good at this kind of topic. If you liked the post about Paradis celebrating Yuletide then I consider it a fluke, happily xD Still, I'll do my best to share my thoughts on it!

To be very factual, and if I'm not wrong, the Wall Church is the only serious "religion" on Paradis. Because the people inside had their memories entirely wiped clean, and because of the fact that concept of God was very alien to them (ie, Onyankopon's explanation of God during the timeskip was surprising to the 104th), I don't think there was a practice among the general populace of worshiping a superior being, really. In terms of bowing down to a "god-like" figure, it is only the Wall Church that propagates such a belief.

But even then, not everybody believes in the Wall Church - in fact, most do not. This then raises a question as to how, maybe, atheism seems to be so acceptable to the people, especially given such a European setting and some very clear religious imagery throughout the show. My very rough and abstract answer to this is that - the people of Paradis do believe in gods. Pagan gods. But those gods are not the same as the god Onyankopon talks about, hence their surprise.

(For me this is the easy way out to plug in my Yuletide fantasies hahaha xD)

Tbh if we take a long, deep look, the situations are quite vague and just enough to concoct an explanation any which way that wouldn't be too wrong to go with. Precisely because the people's memories were wiped out, they wouldn't have remembered the practice of more Christian-esque religions that seem to exist outside the island (because they exist outside the island lol). At the same time, 100 years is a long period of time, more than sufficient for religious ideas to evolve and change. We can say that even if people didn't question concepts such as the existence of a "creator", they could've come to believe (unrelated to the Wall Church), that they owe thanks to other forces unseen to the eyes. No doubt questions like "what are those pinpricks of lights in the sky?" and "where does the sun go every evening?" and "what happens after we die?" would've been subjects of intense conversation and discussion every now and then because human curiosity has always been an unstoppable and inevitable force. The answers over time could've ranged from : ghosts, ancestral spirits, the forces that make water flow and snow to fall, demons that protect, watchful spirits that maintain balance, etc etc.

But then ALSO: We don't really know to what extent the people's memories were erased. Or altered. Did Karl Fritz perhaps make the people believe in a religion pre-dating Christianity as we know it, just to keep harmony and tradition among the people so new ideas would face some resistance? OR did he erase just Christian-esque ideas and keep all the rest? I don't have any answers to that.

I've gone nowhere with this post (and I'm so sorry lol T_T), but I thought I'd also share a random idea I like - which is that Paradis reaaaaaally loved their harvest festivals and celebrated loudly with food, night-markets, and a whole lot of dancing <3

Killua taking Gon on a date? (ﾟ∀ﾟ)

Was just continuing my rewatch on HxH, and something IMMEDIATELY caught my eye. I believe it is yet another silly subtext on Killua's romantic feelings towards Gon that Togashi put xD. (This happened on episode 86—which is chapter 201 in the manga!)

I'll be talking about this specific panel:

Oke so this happened right after Killua and Gon met Palm. They go to a restaurant so they can have their conversation about this Knuckle and Shoot thing. It's perfectly normal to choose a restaurant for that since Killua and Gon mostly go to restaurants to discuss stuff. But I 100% believe this specific restaurant conversation was a date, because !!! it's definitely a love restaurant. AND I HAVE PROOF SO SHH!!!

First of all, the uniform of the waitress:

She's legit dressed like those waitresses you see in Shoujo animes where the couple goes on a restaurant/cafe date. Not to mention, the literal heart on her chest!!

If that's not convincing enough, then literally look at this omurice:

The word on the omurice is written in the HxH alphabet, but I managed to translate it. :3

Ra, Fu, and a dakuten. The dakuten sign transforms F -> B = Bu. I'm also aware that the letter I is the same as the dakuten sign, but since it's small, and was placed at the top of Fu, then it's a dakuten. This means that it spells out -Rabu- which is the Japanese pronounciation of love. ᵔᴗᵔ

Now, I know the manga panel did not highlight or even write that on the food, but it's safe to assume that the animators drew that to imply that this IS a love restaurant. Seeing Togashi's drawing of the uniform, the animators understood what type of uniform that was, and where it's worn. Then proceeded to make it clear for us viewers that Killua and Gon are in a love restaurant by drawing "love" on the food.

And also, the waitress literally appears in front which covers Killua and Gon. I find it funny cause Togashi's obviously implying that this waitress is important to look at, like "BOOM check this waitress out!!! I'm highlighting what type of waitress she is, so look! Look at her!"

But that's not all, I also noticed the food being prepared at Killua and Gon's table.

That's quite a lot of food being prepared, and they look good too. It's not the usual -fast food, big meat, big chicken, spaghetti, orange juice- typa shit like what these two usually order. There's cake, pasta, coffee/tea (i can't tell), smoothies, and whatever else is there. And you know what this looks like? Killua working his ass off to properly choose and prepare nice and decent food for him and Gon—like he's arranging a date! (^^)b

I personally think Killua's the one who chose the restaurant, and the one who ordered the food because Gon just doesn't look like the type to give a shit about where they eat, nor choose those types of food, and Killua being the type to arrange where they eat cause he's that picky rich kid with tastes lol.

ANYWAAAYYY it's too convincing that he took Gon on a date, cause this also happened right a lil' bit after the "Gon you are light" scene—which we all claim as the confirmation of Killua's romantic feelings for Gon. So it's like Killua's just acting on crush instincts. ◠ᗜ◠ It genuinely seemed like he took their discussion—about Knuckle and Shoot—as an opportunity to take Gon on a date, too. (He sneaky as heeelll.)

This was nothing too serious, I just thought it was a cute and adorable detail that Togashi added!
