Fiction Set in the Victorian Era: Book Recs
The Mystery of the Sorrowful Maiden by Kate Saunders
In the spring of 1853, private detective Laetitia Rodd receives a delicate request from a retired actor, whose days on the stage were ended by a theater fire ten years before. His great friend, and the man he rescued from the fire, Thomas Transome, has decided to leave his wife, who now needs assistance in securing a worthy settlement. Though Mrs. Rodd is reluctant to get involved with the scandalous world of the theater, she cannot turn away the woman in need. She agrees to take the case.
But what starts out as a simple matter of negotiation becomes complicated when a body is discovered in the burnt husk of the old theater. Soon Mrs. Rodd finds herself embroiled in family politics, rivalries that put the Capulets and Montagues to shame, and betrayals on a Shakespearean scale. Mrs. Rodd will need all her investigatory powers, not to mention her famous discretion, to solve the case before tragedy strikes once more.
For readers of the Grantchester Mysteries, The Mystery of the Sorrowful Maiden is the charming third mystery in Kate Saunder's series about Laetitia Rodd, the indomitable lady detective.
Parting the Veil by Paulette Kennedy
Some houses hold secrets that are meant to be kept forever… When Eliza Sullivan inherits an estate from a recently deceased aunt, she leaves behind a grievous and guilt-ridden past in New Orleans for rural England and a fresh start. Eliza arrives at her new home and finds herself falling for the mysterious lord of Havenwood, Malcolm Winfield. Despite the sinister rumors that surround him, Eliza is drawn to his melancholy charm and his crumbling, once-beautiful mansion. With enough love, she thinks, both man and manor could be repaired. Not long into their marriage, Eliza fears that she should have listened to the locals. There’s something terribly wrong at Havenwood Manor: Forbidden rooms. Ghostly whispers in the shadows. Strangely guarded servants. And Malcolm’s threatening moods, as changeable as night and day. As Eliza delves deeper into Malcolm’s troubling history, the dark secrets she unearths gain a frightening power. Has she married a man or a monster? For Eliza, uncovering the truth will either save her or destroy her.
Down a Dark River by Karen Odden
London, 1878. One April morning, a small boat bearing a young woman’s corpse floats down the murky waters of the Thames. When the victim is identified as Rose Albert, daughter of a prominent judge, the Scotland Yard director gives the case to Michael Corravan, one of the only Senior Inspectors remaining after a corruption scandal the previous autumn left the division in ruins. Reluctantly, Corravan abandons his ongoing case, a search for the missing wife of a shipping magnate, handing it over to his young colleague, Mr. Stiles. An Irish former bare-knuckles boxer and dockworker from London’s seedy East End, Corravan has good street sense and an inspector’s knack for digging up clues. But he’s confounded when, a week later, a second woman is found dead in a rowboat, and then a third. The dead women seem to have no connection whatsoever. Meanwhile, Mr. Stiles makes an alarming discovery: the shipping magnate’s missing wife, Mrs. Beckford, may not have fled her house because she was insane, as her husband claims, and Mr. Beckford may not be the successful man of business that he appears to be. Slowly, it becomes clear that the river murders and the case of Mrs. Beckford may be linked through some terrible act of injustice in the past—for which someone has vowed a brutal vengeance. Now, with the newspapers once again trumpeting the Yard’s failures, Corravan must dredge up the truth—before London devolves into a state of panic and before the killer claims another innocent victim.
Miss Moriarty, I Presume? by Sherry Thomas

Meanwhile, Charlotte's sister Livia tries to make sense of a mysterious message from her beau Mr. Marbleton. And Charlotte's longtime friend and ally Lord Ingram at last turns his seductive prowess on Charlotte--or is it the other way around? But the more secrets Charlotte unravels about Miss Moriarty's disappearance, the more she wonders why Moriarty has entrusted this delicate matter to her of all people. Is it merely to test Charlotte's skills as an investigator, or has the man of shadows trapped her in a nest of vipers?

Friday marked 2 years since our kickass show with @kissonline @volbeat @defleppard @slayerbandofficial @inflames @dropkickmurphys @satyriconofficial @officialwolfmother @dreamtheaterofficial @behemothofficial @testamentofficial @thetruemayhem and many more incredible bands, artists, and a fucking amazing audience. Hanging backstage with all our friends including Satyr, Mr Anders Odden which was very cool. Satyr brought me a bottle of his delicious wine and I promptly opened it up and we drank it together. Chatted a bit with the guys from Mayhem and was supremely surprised to see my Bay Area Bash Brother Gary Holt come back to say hello and bring me 5 all-access Slayer passes. So, I was lucky enough to tour on Slayer’s first US Tour and on their final show in Oslo. And KISS was setting off these fucking giant bombs that were INSANE LOL! It felt like the explosion was literally taking the air out of the world. So much more went on but I will save some for next time…. Hennepin History: Bake a Bundt!
Did you know that the Bundt pan, the classic fluted, circular cake mold, was developed right here in the Twin Cities? The now classic cake form was introduced to the masses in 1950 by cookware manufacturer Nordic Ware, headquartered in St. Louis Park. By request, business owners Dave and Dotty Dalquist based the form off a traditional German cake mold, a bund pan, popular among Jewish communities. They added a ‘t’ to the end and trademarked the name. Bundt pans didn’t become fully popularized until 1966 when a Bundt cake won 2nd place at a Pillsbury Bake-off Contest. Learn more about Bundt cakes in the most recent issue of Hennepin History magazine.
Find Bundt cake recipes in cookbooks from the 1960s and beyond in the Minneapolis History Collection. The above are just a few classics to add to your holiday baking repertoire, from the following cookbooks:

Horns As well as Wrinkles By Joseph Helgerson-- Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists.
Karen Odden's enthralling launching historic secret transportations viewers to Victorian England, where a terrifying railway calamity plunges a reckless young noblewoman right into a conspiracy theory that reaches to the greatest hallways of power. Being a lady isn't really almost looking or acting properly outside; it involves being an excellent person on the inside. Critics Agreement: Meryl Streep's performance as The Iron Lady is reliably best, but it's mired in bland, self-important narration. I used to attempt placing skins on my tools a few years earlier, along with display protectors, but I am truly quick-tempered with in-depth work like this. A lot of the team preferred to get the tattoo where they could see it, Lin said, so that they could trace it when they feel distressed or to remember just what it seemed like to be on stage with Lady Gaga's assistance. In The Woman of Misrule, Elizabeth Tilney obtains a front-row seat to the craziness that is Jane's post-reign jail time and gains insight into the reasons for that jail time. This double task item is improved with Vitamin Omega-3, d as well as omega-6 important fatty acids for a healthy and balanced skin metabolism. She truly permits the regency and also comprehends period to find active, at the very least for me. I truly feel I am strolling the solemn halls of Clifton House as well as really feeling spring on my skin. http://maturfrumusete.info/germitox-comentarii-functioneaza-in-cazul-in-care-pentru-a-cumpara-in-farmacii-pretul/ is to offer your woman a powerful orgasm, so focus on that and prioritize her demands. If you are interacting with someone, non-verbal signs will send out the very first message, when you speak to a girl for the very first time, send a signal of intrigue prior to claiming a word. Waxing is quickest and also the pain only lasts a 2nd. Do it prior to bed to provide your skin time to recover and also moisturise the area after waxing. First Girl is the 4th installment in Susan Elizabeth Phillips's adult modern love collection entitled Wynette, Texas. I am offering GIRL EMILY'S EXOTIC JOURNEY 4 celebrities, and also I am excitedly looking forward to the next publication in the collection. The Penworths (Lord & Lady and also their daughters Emily and also Julia) are a dense lot, the girls are well-read and everybody takes pleasure in a journey. Lady: As a Spiritual Counselor I transport for my clients when they have a hard time thinking of solutions when I believe they are b-s-ing me. This is done psychologically. Several of the personalities in this collection were secondary personalities in Laurens' prior novel The Woman Dangers All, along with 2 of her prior series The Stronghold Club as well as The The Adventurers Quartet is a set of 4 books each focusing on a various Frobisher sibling - beginning with Declan in The Woman's Command. Like Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico, Our Girl of Lourdes is a significant Catholic symbol in France. Engagement and also wedding event: Wedding event of Charles, Prince of Wales as well as Woman Diana Spencer and also Bridal gown of Lady Diana Spencer Charles and Diana's wedding event memorialized on a 1981 British Crown. It takes place on locations of the skin that have actually remained in the sunlight, such as the ears, reduced lip, and also the back of the hands. Nevertheless, she differentiates herself in appearing decadent, whereas D&D's Lady of Discomfort is noticeably austere. After nearly a decade of having a girl beard", as the 25-year-old calls it, Kaur could locate individuals's reactions amusing - she simulates the dropped jaws. There's plainly a rather enormous gulf in between exactly what Girl GaGa's assumption of herself and also the fact. For a small basal-cell cancer in a young adult, the therapy with the very best treatment price (Mohs surgery or CCPDMA) might be indicated. We see it in her determination to satisfy her sibling's desire and make a better life for herself; in the hard-work and self-control needed to come to be an excellent woman; in her need to make a sincere living as a h This is my first Meredith Duran book as well as I delighted in the interesting tale, intelligent writing, interesting personalities as well as sensuous love story. Lady Scandal is a wonderful as well as shining historical love and I took pleasure in reading it. It's a enchanting and also enthusiastic story however there is likewise activity, secret as well as suspense. Recently, we obtained our very first taste of Joanne" when Gaga released the cd's initial single, Perfect Impression" We presume it will certainly just need to trend us over up until the cd comes out. Remember that being a girl does not suggest endangering your personal style or creativity. In Girl Vengeance, retribution is ultimately a shoddy, scurvy organisation that leaves everyone dirtied and also looking for filtration - or a minimum of of a pie in the face. Digital Summit Minneapolis: A Look Back at What We Learned
Parting [ways after an amazing conference] is such sweet sorrow.
Your energy is high, your brain is full and you feel the love of other like-minded marketers. Sometimes however, it's hard to keep that drive alive once the closing keynote has commenced and you resume your normal routine.
But what if instead of going about business as usual, you keep the momentum going?
Our team was very fortunate to participate in an event this week in our own backyard, the 2017 Digital Summit in Minneapolis. In addition to speaking, we had a large group of team members attend to gain new knowledge, created live blog coverage of the event, and hosted an attendee happy hour and dinner.
If you need a refresher to keep your marketing wheels turning or were not able to attend and would like some marketing insights, let the content below be your guide.

6 Cannes Revelations About B2B Marketing in 2020
In June the 2019 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity brought together some of the world’s savviest B2B marketers, brands, and other creative professionals. From Nike, IKEA, and Visa to Tommy Hilfiger, Microsoft and Target, strong brands and the marketers behind them were involved at Cannes, and the trends they gathered to explore will play a part in shaping how B2B marketers focus their efforts in the months and years ahead. Here’s a run-down of some of the top B2B marketing and other revelations from this year’s Cannes, and what they’ll mean for your business in 2020 and beyond.
1 — Cannes B2B Marketing Brand Engagement Take-Aways
One running theme at Cannes this year was centered around being mindful of your brand’s purpose, and how it will be especially important when it comes time to meet your audience’s needs and make the greatest impact. Being a change-maker brand comes from honing in on consumer desires, so listen to the signals coming from the online platforms where your customers and potential clients spend the majority of their time. Don’t entirely eschew machine learning when it comes to your data, but build brand trust by ensuring that appropriate and responsible humans have data oversight. Look to feed off competitive momentum and focus conversations and cultural discussions using creativity, and keep it sincere when it comes to brand activism, while avoiding all hints of opportunism, many at Cannes urged. Brand engagement, especially through influencer marketing, has been the focus of several recent articles we've published, including these:
Hitting Your Target: Why Account-Based Marketing and Influencers Are the Perfect Match
11 Qualities You Should be Looking for to Find Your B2B Influencer Match
7 Top B2B Influencer Marketing Trends for 2020
2 — Cannes B2B Marketing Consumer Journey Take-Aways
Dig in and embrace the sometimes-messy digital world where your potential customers interact, by communicating with them and taking the time to learn about their lives through what they’re posting online, because cold and impersonal data can only get you so far in the customer journey. These raw and real connections can unite and forge new relationships in ways that polished marketing campaigns sometimes just can’t, and some of the winners at Cannes showed examples of building these types of connections. Build strong brand value while also allowing customers to take the wheel, nurture the connections your brand makes, and don’t be afraid to build strong creative partnerships in your efforts. Valuing the participation of consumers while also standing by your brand’s values were among the trends explored during Cannes this year. Search taking place from smart speakers and other connected voice-assisted is poised to boom in the coming years, and podcasting is expanding to offer new ways to integrate brand messaging. Strive to build a seamless voice search approach that meshes with the values and messaging of your brand or that of your client, as sound is the newest frontier for B2B marketers. We're written about smart search recently, including in these helpful articles:
Hey Alexa: How Do I Bake Voice Search Into My B2B Marketing Strategy?
How B2B Marketers Can Win at Search with Best Answer Content
Optimize Your B2B Content Performance with an SEO Audit
[bctt tweet="“We’re very good at doing marketing on screens. We’re not as good at audio only.” — Bessie Lee, Founder and CEO, Withinlink" username="toprank"]
3 — Cannes B2B Marketing Diversity Take-Aways
Cannes made efforts to find and highlight the areas in marketing where diversity continues to be lacking, led by people over 50 and those who are differently-abled, and spent considerable time exploring how setting aside fear and risk can lead to huge economic and strategic opportunities. Going beyond hiring, diversity should move towards being more of a core piece of a brand’s values, some of those gathered at Cannes noted. Adding diversity key performance indicators (KPIs) to existing performance metrics would go a long way towards making inclusiveness an important part of opportunity pipelines, and ultimately bottom lines, it was noted during Cannes.
4 — Cannes B2B Marketing Long-Term Planning Take-Aways
Connections coming from unexpected places and new experiences are poised to change how B2B marketers expand beyond traditional sources, and an emphasis on the power of creativity to strengthen organizations was made at Cannes. Brands and how they reflect culture at large will become more of a joint initiative at successful firms and in strong marketing efforts, especially in creative campaigns. Cannes showed that creativity will likely thrive in the coming year, even more-so when it’s increasingly expressed as a team effort, done in what some gathered for the week called real-time branding, with all involved having a creative stake in new marketing initiatives. Having a relevant and flexible B2B marketing strategy, and building innovative creative methods whether working solo or with an agency, were also take-aways from Cannes this year. We've explored both long-term planning and the question of when is the right time to partner with an agency, in recent articles such as these:
How to Boost Your Content Marketing Efforts By Planning Ahead
5 Marvelous B2B Content Marketing Lessons From Mrs. Maisel
How to Choose a B2B Marketing Agency that Can Evolve with Your Needs
[bctt tweet="“The value of agency creative is $10 Billion.” — Jay Pattisall, Forrester @jaypattisall" username="toprank"]
5 — Cannes B2B Marketing Storytelling Take-Aways
At Cannes a more transformational flavor of storytelling was seen as coming down the pike, one that will help evolve the narrative with more levels of both client and customer experience, all combining to bring better communication to consumers. Rapidly-expanding digital technologies and more data than ever present challenges, but also massive opportunities, especially when the two combine to help creative storytelling efforts that help drive B2B marketing efforts. Creating compelling narratives and delivering them in new and relevant ways will play a factor in marketing in 2020 and beyond, and firms utilizing solely technology to overcome marketing barriers may be left behind. Learning to better recognize the people behind the data and the numbers was also seen as a key trend at Cannes, along with greater incorporation of empathy and intuition in marketing processes. Neuroaesthetics and an evolving method of storytelling that is always-on will expand on traditional forms of narratives that have been largely limited to a beginning, middle, and end. Micro-storytelling efforts will also help brands shows that they are listening, and encourage consumers to create and share their own stories. A few of our helpful looks at storytelling in marketing are these:
Once Upon a Time: Storytelling in Today’s B2B Content Marketing Landscape
Be Like Honest Abe: How Content Marketers Can Build Trust Through Storytelling
6 Ways to Bring More Boom! & Less Boring to Your B2B
6 — Cannes Trust in B2B Marketing Take-Aways
We’ve focused more than ever on trust in marketing over the past year at TopRank Marketing, with pieces such as these:
The B2B Marketing Funnel is Dead: Say Hello to the Trust Funnel
Trust Fractures: How to Avoid Accidentally Eroding Your Brand’s Credibility
Trust Factors: The (In)Credible Impact of B2B Influencer Marketing
At Cannes the power of trust played a major role this year, and how to regain it using transparency, authenticity, and empathy, after being compromised over the past several years in the eyes of many. A theme that resonated throughout the week was that nothing secures a relationship as powerfully as trust, which is the cornerstone of any long-term partnership. Trust in platforms and technology were also at the forefront on Cannes this year, and admonitions to shift to marketing strategies that are more real, open, transparent, and true were common themes for rebuilding broken trust. [bctt tweet="As the old adage goes: Trust is gained in drops and lost in buckets. #B2BMarketing #trust" username="toprank"]

These six major theme take-aways in the areas of brand engagement, customer journeys, diversity, long-term planning, storytelling and trust from this year's Cannes can play a part in your own B2B marketing strategy as we head ever-closer to 2020. You can also learn more by joining us at upcoming speaking events and conferences.
