Fire escape reunion

Jessica Jones took another swig from her flask and scanned the alley below the thick soles of her boots. She wasn’t uncomfortable yet, but that was only a matter of time. She saw a figure detach from the deeper shadows behind the dumpsters and set off at an easy jog away from her fire escape perch. The dumpster diver was no concern of hers, she was being paid to watch the window across the road. There was a low rumble of conversation, some kind of scuffle perhaps, then silence – or what passed for it in the overcrowded city. Ugh, people. Far better just to watch.

A pair of combat boots casually dangled into her peripheral vision when she took a drink from her thermos. The rest of the black clad figure followed as the Devil lowered himself to a silent crouch beside her. Okay, some people were less annoying than others. At least this person brought waves of heat with him to take some of the chill out of the spring night air.

“Heard you weren’t dead.” She offered him the flask. The wrinkle of his nose under the black mask telegraphed his opinion of the cheap whiskey lacing her coffee. His distaste was not at all cute. Not at all. The jawline was as stubbled and heroic as she remembered, the lips still pouty and probably a little too red. She didn’t quite understand the narrow ropes on his hands, not much protection compared to the red gear. Still, the armour hadn’t been enough to keep him safe the last time she’d seen him in the wild, and there was a certain aesthetic value to the way the streetlight caressed the contours inside that skin-tight shirt. Jeez, the asshole was no less pretty for having a building fall on him.

“Turns out that dying is overrated.”

Poor cold cryptid! I hope she gets lots of warmth from snuggling you tonight!

She always does! She’s the cuddler of the two in terms of sleeping -- Dearborn cuddles on my lap all day long if allowed, but at night she wants to sleep directly next to my ankles (Unless it’s cold in which case, directly next to my ankles under the blanket). Polk likes to sleep somewhere between shoulder and mid-chest, so that I’m within scent-marking range if she wakes up in the night and I’m not smelly enough :D

I did think Beijing and Munich had pretty stand-out mascots, although Munich’s admittedly had nothing to do with actual sports or the olympics or anything. It’s just a cute dachshund with mod stripes.

Being in Britain at the time the London mascots were revealed was ridiculous: there was a *huge* hype about the approaching Mascot Reveal, then, when they actually did reveal them everyone assumed it was a hoax and the real mascot was yet to be seen. At least one topical comedy sketch showed the Olympic marketing team being shown the final mascots and just sort of staring in confusion until they eventually turned to look into the camera to share their stunned disbelief with the world. 

The only thing I remember from the London olympics was that someone pointed out the 2012 logo looked like someone giving a blow job.

Sorry, that probably came across really badly. My parents were so worried about violence at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal (my hometown) that we went to England for the summer, and I watched the Olympics on TV from London... So it just seemed odd for me to to read you saying "I’m having a lot of uncomfortable memories of the Atlanta olympics bombing in 1996, and the Munich massacre in 1972" when I know you're almost 20 years younger than me...

Well, “memories” was not an ideal word choice, but I assumed people would work out what I meant :D  Given the trauma associated with both, I felt flashbacks was a poorer choice of words. I mean I wasn’t there but I have seen video footage, and I remember it at times like this.

"Sub optimal for lit candles" sounds like there's a story there. I have two wall sconces that F bought me at a party light thing that are in a box somewhere gathering dust. I'll have to revisit them with an eye to display shelves instead.

The sconces I have are just two tea-light cups, one mounted above the other one, and the top one isn’t far enough above the bottom one -- the candle in the top cup melts regardless, just from the heat of the flame underneath. I never set anything on fire, but cleaning the top after putting a votive in it was a pain.

I picked up inexpensive curtains from Ikea for my festival booth display. They're really nice heavy cotton and sturdily made. No finished bottom edge, though, just serged so they can be taken up to the necessary length as desired. That actually worked out better for me because I needed the extra length.

Yep, those are the ones I’m looking at! I will need their full length....

Daredevil Fanfic Recs: Oddities

I’ve done fanfic recommendations on this Tumblr before, usually older stuff for people who don’t like to scroll back, but since there seems to be an influx of new people to the fandom, here’s a list of fics I thought were just especially unique and therefore worth a look, even if it isn’t normally your cup of tea. I will try to keep away from stories I’ve recommended before, but I’ll be damned if I know how to find my old posts, so I apologize for doubles.

All Our Yesteryears by Katbell - Foggy is injured and decides to abandon life in New York. He returns after many years and discovers how things have changed without him. There’s an unfinished second work of the same material from Matt’s POV. (This story contains a lot of characters from the comics)

Company and Confidence by WayFish - (ADULT) When Wesley meets Fisk on Grindr, he’s putting himself through school by hooking. Despite the premise, this fic is very grounded and builds up to the start of the show’s timeline.

Turn Right by Gonzai - This is a classic Episode 10 AU where Matt’s wounds from Nobu were more serious and Claire and Foggy took him to the hospital instead.

Whose Poems Sewed You Shut by vibishan - (ADULT) Matt and Frank are a couple when Maria and the kids are brought back to life, leading to a lot of negotiation and family drama, and eventually a threesome.

Things You Can Touch by raven_aorla - A rare fanfic from Melvin Potter’s point-of-view.

The Accursed Share by incogneato - Foggy is a Lovecraftian monster.

Eight Feet Under (And No Air to Breathe) by DustySoul - Matt gets buried alive, then rescued by the Avengers. I’m putting this on the list because I feel like it dealt with the “Matt meets the Avengers” trope a bit differently than other fics.

Out of the miry clay by marmolita - Matt dies and Nobu resurrects him.

Father’s Day by GrayJay - Matt and Dr. Strange go back in time to the moment of Jack Murdock’s death.

Heaven Cannot Hold Him, Nor the Earth Sustain by Mad_Maudlin - Matt is in a coma, but Daredevil is still tearing up the streets somehow. Foggy has to figure it out.

With Teeth by Neurocrat - (ADULT, SLIGHT DUB-CON) Elektra is super intense, sexually, and Matt has a lot to say about it (in an inner monologue).

The Reporter by enthusiasmgirl - Ben Urich goes to see Jack Murdock fight, then follows Matt’s progress through the years.

Legacy by GrayJay - Josie’s take on her relationship with Jack Murdock and then his son Matt.

What do I post: This was a music and art blog, then a random fandom blog, then a random fandom blog with mostly MCU, then a Doctor Who, Twelve/Clara blog, then a blog that I barely go to anymore but when I do it’s a mixed bag of fandom and politics and art and music I post about 14. Last thing I googled: “Lee Mack, key story, Would I Lie To you”: I was hoping to find more gifs from what is my fave moment from this show and was unsuccessful. Why did you choose your url: I didn’t want to use the same name as my LJ (which had Roman connotations but was actually from a Fiona Apple song) so I chose this which has Roman connotations but is actually from a Decemberists song.  18. Instruments: Took clarinet lessons but barely remember how to play, can sorta fake it at piano, will one day learn guitar 24. Dream trip: New Zealand and only about 30% for any fangirl reasons you might be thinking.  My boss recently went there for a week and left a ton of problems for us to deal with and very little in the way of things saved where they should be on our company server to help. And it was almost impossible to get hold of her plus the massive time change meant we had to keep making sure it was even day time when we tried and it was a nightmare but to be selfish about it I would really love to go away far, far, far away and be that hard for my coworkers to get in touch with for a week or two.  Please you know pretty scenery, LOTR, FOTC, etc.
