A/N: This is set a few weeks after The Punisher season 1. Frank never went away on his trip (or whatever he was doing at the beginning of season 2) and this is their first encounter after the hotel. I took the liberty of using and rewriting a scene from season 2 that I think it works better this way.  You’ll have to find out for yourself. I don’t wanna spoil it.

(Also- it turned out more angsty that I wanted to but it has a promising ending.)

Summary: Frank had no business showing and messing up her sting. He probably had David, the CIA or someone else track her phone because nobody knew who she was meeting and where that particular night. She almost had it in the bag too until he overstepped. It was especially annoying since he had been radio silent for weeks after that day at the hotel.

It was always a guessing game with Frank, he could be both- dead and alive, like Schrödinger's cat. That’s how he exists in Karen’s head, alas.

It was done. Her lead was dead; the goons were just as much. And so was her case now.

She came out unscathed despite the amount of blood, covering the most part of her body and clothes, pointing otherwise. 

Him was an entirely different story.

Chapter Excerpt

“Wait! Don’t go!” she said, catching up and blocking the woman’s path. “You just saved my life, I want to repay you.” Grinning as she rifled through her purse, she did not catch her savior’s pained expression.

“Uh, look, you don’t have to do that,” the woman said. “The whole ‘saving people’ thing is on the house. Really, it’s fine.”

“No! No, I want to!” She pulled two tickets out of her bag and smiled. “Okay, have you seen Hamilton? Because I have an extra ticket and no one to see it with.”

“Put those away! I don’t want”– she nearly waved Jess off until the enormousness of the situation dawned on her – “wait, Hamilton tickets?”

“Yeah.”

“How do you even have those? They’re impossible to get.”

“My friends couldn’t go so they gave them to me.” Jess sighed, realizing this was not going as smoothly as she hoped. “Look, it starts in half an hour, and I know it’s crazy last minute, but these are balcony seats, it’s free, and unless you have other plans it seems like a cool way to spend an evening.”

She crossed her arms and appeared to mull it over. “I would get to tell Luke I saw it before he did…” she thought aloud. “Ya know what?”

Jess brightened.

“What the hell? Let’s do it,” she said with a somewhat defeated smile and a shrug. Not the level of excitement Jess expected, but good enough.

“Awesome!” Jess held her hand out for a friendly yet affirmative handshake. “My name’s Jess, by the way. Jessica Day, but everyone calls me Jess.”

“Huh, cool. Jones,” she replied, shaking Jess’s hand, “Jessica Jones.”

“No way, dubs Jesses!”

“Please never say that again.”

“Can do!”

Summary

New York could kiss Jessica Day’s macramé crafting butt. At least, it could until she's saved by a particularly abrasive woman with super strength and a high alcohol tolerance.
