8. How much does your RT buy into the Imperium's dogma? What do they agree or disagree on?

Like every citizen of the Imperium Victoire grew up on their propaganda and doctrine. She took to it very easily (especially in the many ways it benefited her). There was an Emperor god who was all-powerful, and Humanity needed to be spread and protected at all costs. It also didn't hurt that Imperial doctrine very readily puts the lives of common folk completely in the hands of the nobility who could use them however they wished.

There are a few rough edges, however. Victoire does not have any roots in any Imperial homeworld, having been born on a ship that was often in warp travel. And her duty upon becoming an adult was to see to the more shady and under-the-table dealings her family had to deal with. However, even those kinds of activities were always brushed off as being necessary for the Imperium function, even if no one acknowledges them. This made Victoire (somewhat) more tolerant of people and practices that fall outside of the Imperium.

What really planted the seeds for Victoire to eventually break away was when she got arrested. She used to own her own crime empire, the galaxy was hers for the taking. That all came crashing down when she was caught and taken to a high-security Imperial prison. She was not treated very well there. Interrogations, solitary confinement, and horrible conditions left her traumatized and with a much lower opinion on the Imperium.

I love this little story so much. It's a slice of life from the Acolytes of Xavier Calcazar, Lord Inquisitor of the Koronus Expanse, point of view.

Why should you read it?

Because its writer gives life to a character that's only featured twice in game and makes her interesting. Bnbc manages to paint a rich and full picture in very few brush strokes, and it's a good entry point to her other writing. It's also all connected in a larger series. Also bnbc is responsible for the Calcadora ship, and the world of the Koronus Expanse will never be the same.
