I'd argue it's a natural progression of language that once a word becomes more widely used it becomes more of an umbrella term. I think the official term I heard for this was "semantic drift"

Take for example: POV

Pov used to literally means point. Of. View. But after it became widely used on tik tok it took on the meaning of being in the third person as well.

I'm not saying this is good or bad, only that it's a natural progression of fandom and overall cultural slang.

Is it just me or has a lot of fandom forgotten what "AU" means? It's short for Alternate Universe. I keep seeing people talking about, like, "fake dating AU" or "only one bed AU." Unless your characters exist in a world where a) beds don't exist or b) beds exist in such abundance there could not POSSIBLY be only one of them, that's not an AU. It's just a regular degular story.

I will say the importance of "have twice as much fun" and set the bar lower are both incredibly useful as well if the project will take a long time to finish to keep yourself motivated

One way I found helps is adding small challenges which sounds like it's against the get rid of secret rules but in the right lighting can help by being mini goals or keeping yourself healthy

For example with my writing/art lately I've made the rule that every time my music playlist for art loops I am required to get up and either walk around, get some water, or lay down on the floor for 5-10 minutes .

Other times I have been keeping a podcast as background noise and every other episode I check to see how much I have written. If it's under a certain number I go back to a previous episode and keep writing that section until it's long enough by my standards

These are random rules that just add an amount of silliness to the project for me and help make it feel like I'm completing stuff even if the project isn't fully finished
