"Kunikida is alive. If he died, there's no way I wouldn't have sensed it. Not just Kunikida either. As long as at least one agency member remains alive... They will never stop resisting. This battle will be won by my team."

Headcanon: When you call the Agencies phone line and no one picks up you’ll be greeted by a message.
It’s usually from Kunikida saying that they’re busy at the moment and to call later. It’s very professional until you hear “ohhh Kuuuniiikiiiidaa” and the rest of the message intercuts with him yelling at Dazai.
But there’s other messages from each Detective all repeating the same message as Kunikida.
With their own flair.
Dazai will happily ask if a fair maiden is calling to commit double suicide with him. Junichiro’s is fine until he goes all scary like “but if this is that fucker who tried hurting Naomi then I will…”
The rest of that message has been censored.
Yosano’s has screams in the background. Kenji’s has mostly cows but also various other farm animals making noises in the background.
Kyouka does the message but instead of ending it there she just carries on talking to Atsushi for a while before it cuts off.
Similarly, Atsushi’s is him giving the message and then talking to Kyouka or being dragged away by Dazai.
Ranpo’s is just the normal message with “I’ll do you the honour of taking it if it’s interesting.” Before doing a 180 and cheerfully greeting Detective Minoura.
Fukuzawa’s is the only normal one, promising this matter will be dealt with soon. And making sure the caller is safe.
Thinking about Atsushi calling the Agencies number and of course it goes straight to the answering machine. Because no one’s here and he just wants to hear everyone’s voices again.

atsushi nakajima doesn't know what various physical signs of affections mean -- he grew up with none afterall
the first time kenji hugs him, he asks why he's squeezing him
he's a quick study tho, so he's able to hug kyouka after realizing she's not dead
but he gets shy about asking questions, doesnt even know what questions to ask, so he just does his best
for example
kunikida, ruffling atsushi's hair: thanks brat
atsushi, not knowing why he's messing up his hair: ????
*later*
kunikida: thanks kid
*hair ruffle*
atsushi, lightbulb moment: :O
so...
fukuzawa: your report was well done, atsushi
atsushi: thank you!!
atsushi, remembering kunikida:
atsushi, shuffling forward, and shyly ruffling fukuzawa's hair:
fukuzawa:
atsushi:
fukuzawa:
atsushi, proud for doing it right: okay bye then :)
fukuzawa, half confused, half touched:
/
atsushi, noticing two strangers holding hands:
atsushi: why r u guys doing that
strangers: uh we're partners?
atsushi: is that what partners do?
strangers: uh yes???
atsushi: huh
*later*
akutagawa: hurry jinko i do not have time---
atsushi, reaching out and holding akutagawa's hand:
akutagawa:
akutagawa:
atsushi, to himself: oh my god, has he been a bitch becuz i didn't realize work partners had to hold hands????
/
atsushi, nervous:
junichiro, giving him a comforting shoulder squeeze:
atsushi: ohhh i get it
junichiro: ???
*later*
poe, his usual shy anxious self:
atsushi, going over and squeezing his shoulder:
poe, red, more anxious, flabbergasted:
atsushi, who did it and then just left:
karl:
poe:
/
dazai, patting atsushi on the back: good job atsushi!!
atsushi: ????????
*later*
yosano, covered in blood and guts, after saving civilians:
atsushi, materializing randomly, patting yosano's back, awkwardly: good job yosano!!! you're amazing like always!!!!
yosano, touched and amused: thank you atsushi
/
dazai: atsushi i got you this
atsushi, confident after his encounter with fukuzawa, reaching up and ruffling dazai's hair: thank you !!!!
dazai: af;lksdjf;las????
/
and so on and so forth

We talk a lot about the cycle of abuse, but we need to discuss the savior chain more because, aside from being one of the most wholesome concepts in the entire series, it's also way more direct than the cycle of abuse and it's what breaks it.
Odasaku begins to save orphans because a man told him to write fanfiction and that led to him to stop killing. He told Dazai to become a good man because he knew for himself that yes, this is a more beautiful path, this makes life just a little bit more worth living.
Dazai saves Atsushi because he sees what Odasaku told him: a traumatized, helpless orphan. He saves him (at first) because of the promise he made to Odasaku, and the opportunity given to him on a silver platter to help out an orphan and give him a home (properly this time).
And on Atsushi's end, that means everything to him. The fact that for the first time in his life, he has someone who didn't give him up on him. That he now has a home, a place where he belongs.
And it's for that reason that he chooses to save Kyouka. He doesn't give up on her because Dazai never gave up on him. Because he feels empathy for her, and wants to bring her over to this new light he's discovered because someone was kind enough to show it him.
Dazai helps Atsushi because Odasaku helped show him the light.
And Odasaku told him to become good because a man once showed him the beauty of saving lives instead of taking them.
And it's this cycle that ends up breaking the cycle of abuse, this generation mistreatment of orphans because they see their own darkness inside of them. Instead, this cycle sees the light inside of others and it brings others to save another.

The way everyone seems to think about Mori and Dazai’s relationship really annoys me, okay? It’s like… everyone thinks Dazai always hated Mori and I just don’t understand where people got that idea from? Dazai was more indifferent to him at first and there was certainly anger, disappointment, and distrust because Mori never gave him the quick and painless death he promised in return for Dazai’s testimony of his innocence, but there was also respect and attachment. I wouldn’t say affection, not on Dazai’s end, but Mori was the only person he knew and interacted with for a year. They were tied together in this crazy scheme to take over the port mafia, they were partners in crime, even before Dazai officially joined the mafia.
For at least four years Mori was there, taking care of him, keeping him alive. Dazai probably didn’t appreciate that, but still, Mori risked his own life to save Dazai when he tried to blow himself up. He knew he was important to Mori, and I think he felt like he owed him in a very abstract way. He did so much to protect Mori in Storm Bringer. He manipulated Verlaine into killing some of the most important people in the Mafia just to buy Mori more time. He set up an ambush for Verlaine that ended in the mafia loosing a huge chunk of their forces and put his own and Chuuya’s lives in unimaginable danger. All to protect Mori. For four years his life’s purpose was to help and protect Mori. He became exasperated when Mori made his job harder but he still gave it everything he had. Until Oda gave him a new purpose he was completely dedicated to Mori, even if he hid it well. He never resented Mori for that, I don’t think, because he gave him his reason to live, pushed him towards Chuuya, gave him drugs to make him less miserable, let him do whatever he wanted. It wasn’t until Mori became the cause of his misery that Dazai turned against him. For the longest time Mori had brought him something like joy, albeit in very unconventional ways, and he saw it as a betrayal when Mori took away something that made him happy, Odasaku. And because he’s someone with severe emotional dissregulation and probably a mixed cluster b personality disorder with a lot of bpd traits, he went from being incredibly attached to Mori to absolutely despising him and never wanting to see or think about him again.
The animosity he shows towards Mori didn’t build gradually over time due to multiple factors or slights. It came from betrayal, from years of feeling like Mori cared about him suddenly being put into a new perspective after Mori hurt him deeply without any remorse. But he doesn’t hate the mafia or Mori’s methods or what he stands for, in fact he still shares many of Mori’s beliefs and ideologies. He still holds professional respect for Mori, even if he will no longer do anything to protect the man.

It’s odd how when you say that Mori isn’t a pedo people will point out that Elise exits.
Elise isn’t a child because Mori’s attracted to them, she’s a child because Mori wants to be a father but he can’t have kids when he’s the boss of the mafia, they’d be in too much danger.
Mori’s entire personality will change depending on his responsibilities as we clearly see with beast. Mori is the boss of the mafia, there’s no room for weakness or care. Enemies are everywhere and the only way to stay on top is to use the people around you as tools.
Mori in beast however, doesn’t need to be like that, he doesn’t need to see everyone around him as tools for the best of the city. He’s working with Children and his only responsibility is to care for those children. He can be a father and show he cares because that won’t be detrimental to anyone else.
Elise is whatever Mori wants her to be, her personality is based off Yosano’s because Mori likes fighting spirits and to see it in a child is wonderful. It shows that someone is strong willed and with Mori as the boss he needs a child who’s strong willed, but still, he’s not stupid enough to put an actual child in her place.
Elise in beast is compliant because she’s no longer a child, she’s an assistant, she has to listen to function. Elise isn’t a child because Mori can have actual children now and he’s more than happy to take any child into his care.

here she is at twenty years of age. modern day et cetera
bsd oc in @yebyyhfushi bsd sea au, she is a (red) lionfish
in honesty i don’t think i’ve mentioned ogawa even once? she’s actually twenty, but a lot of the sea au art seems to be dark era, so we will go with that
i do intend to draw her at twenty, but it’s far easier to draw a traumatised thirteen year old than twenty. only time will tell whether it truly happens
#it’s kind of embarrassing to admit i have what is basically a self-insert#but maybe. i will post more about her. at some point#she’s named after youko ogawa#which would make her a more of a gaiden character#i suppose#<- prev (my) tags#bsd#bungou stray dogs#bungo stray dogs#bsd oc#bsd au
