Updated my WIP over the weekend.

Posting chapters has become a double-edged sword since my stress levels and self-criticism got out of hand. On the one hand, the sense of accomplishment is even bigger, but on the other, my impostor syndrome flares up even worse than before (making progress on the story I want to tell vs. remembering how much easier writing used to feel and how many readers I've lost due to the sporadic updates). This weekend was a particularly bad time, as I was already in a bad place for IRL reasons.

But then. Then I got a few comments from my regulars. Love for the chapter, including two longer analytical takes on the POV character's motivations and path forward. I cannot overstate how much of a difference every one of those made. Especially on this bad weekend, on an angsty chapter that was very far from fun to write.

In case some of those regulars happen to see this: thank you, once again, for being a major reason why the sense of accomplishment keeps winning out 💜

S19 is a smart egg. At least she'd like to think so. But it has been three days since they were told to sit in this square on the floor. Three days since she was told very firmly that if she left it, there would be consequences. And so, as workers have milled past them in the hallway, she has sat.

It hasn't been long enough that she should feel the way they do. At least, they think so. There are worse tests. They always seem to get better tests. They shouldn't be upset.

But her back hurts. She's hungry. No one has talked to her this whole time. She hasnt slept in days, they keep seeing weird shadows out of the corners of her eyes, and her stomach twists and aches every time someone walks past the door but doesn't walk in. They just want to curl up in bed and stop thinking.

She keeps looking at the line on the ground. It's made out of electrical tape. It doesn't look like it could hurt them. It's barely big enough to sit with their legs crossed, and they long to just lay down.

S19 is a smart egg. They know that when a worker says consequences will happen, they mean it.

She scoots herself over the line. An alarm blares. It all goes black.

Next doctor that tells me that there is nothing they can do/"aw, that sound stressfull :/"/"you just need to wait!"/"it's not an emergent problem" to my vision going from 100% to (barely) 60% overnight and having such intense photophobia i have to be in pure darkness is getting a view of my brain on their walls and a change of life <3

one time I used the ben affleck smoking reaction image in the family group chat and my mom replied with the funniest possible response which was: "mommy doesn't know who the guy is???" and that phrase has not left my brain since. I'll see blorbos on my dash that I don't recognize and I'll be like well it seems mommy doesn't know who the guy is.

I love it when people use "shrimp" to mean "beyond the human range". like "shrimp colors" but applied to other things. "shrimp emotions" "shrimp sounds" "shrimp morality", as if shrimp are living some kind of transcendent existence that humans can never comprehend
