i think this post is confusing two types of arguments against ai art - arguments based on the artistic merit of ai art, and arguments based on the moral implication of using ai in general.
regarding the artistic merit- i think it's incorrect to say that people who oppose ai art on creative basis only do so because they oppose "remixing".
there is a difference between you, a thinking person, cutting and pasting parts of magazines and books and photos into a collage, or editing parts of songs into new music, and ai being fed pieces of art and creating something different with it- you, as a person, have a choice and there's a meaning behind that choice.
there is no meaning behind ai choices. it's algorithm. maybe you chose to give it those parts to combine, but why did it do it in this specific way? because algorithm. there's no more thought behind it.
i don't think people are wrong for questioning the merit of art without a meaningful choice behind it.
but, also, it's a philosophical question without moral implications.
using ai however, has moral implications.
even without stealing people's livelihoods by taking their jobs, no current ai model was trained without using uncompensated labor. the amount of data needed to train an ai model are too vast for any company to actually go through the process of gaining the concent, much less compensating, artists for the work they're going to use for training. so essentially, all ai was trained on stolen labor.
you can hypothetically think up a perfect ai model that was only trained on freely given or compensated work, that is completely free and open source, and that will never be used to monetary gain either by stealing work to train on or by stealing jobs from real life artists, but the fact is... no such model exists.
Every time I see AI art discourse I think of my new media teacher in college talking about remix culture.
I think about how much I love collage and how much it inspired me to keep going with art because sometimes all I can do is cut and paste.
I think if taking a few tracks I loved from a downloaded album and learning to use audacity to make something new.
I think about how much capitalism kills art.
So much so that we can't even agree that it's more messed up that life could be ruined by sharing creative energy.
No one will engage with the fact that maybe, just maybe, it's messed up that a form of creation even has the possibility to make artists unable to live.
It makes me sad when people say it's theft, abuse of other's work, lazy... It's art.
It's as much art as when I'm drawing, painting, cutting up magazines, folding zines, making a mix tape, over painting a thrift store find, making book art.
The issue is it shouldn't be paywalled, it shouldn't be censored, or centralized. Just like the Internet itself honestly.
Human beings should all feel free to create and remix any fucking thing they want.
The AI algorithm is not the problem, it is as it has always been, capitalism.
Don't want to lose your livelihood to a machine? Consider those who would use that machine against you in the first place. Side with free open source systems that do not generate profit. Actually consider why the problems exist and stop scapegoating and dismiss real actual tools for artists who are not traditional.
AI can make lovely stuff, I use it for references and to speed run sketches sometimes. I can input my art into certain things and run variations to find new directions for a sketch. I can visualize ideas, I can make something.
There's no reason anyone should be opposed to that.
But then, people hate collage too. People hate Tumblr gifsets and image posts made from screenshots. Those old composite gifs are "cringe" but they also took a hell of a lot of work. Just stitching together a fantasy.

Moon Sign & Manifestation
Manifestation is aligning your feelings, goals, and actions to bring your desires into reality. Based on your Moon sign, there are ways to manifest that can better align with who you are.
Aries Moon: Sound and frequency meditations (741 Hz), visualization, taking action towards desires, and letting go.
Why: Aries rules the head, making sounds & frequencies a natural highway to manifesting your desires, as well as visualization. Taking action either by pursuing your goals or asking upfront is what Aries is all about, considering it's the first sign and fire sign of the zodiac. For Aries Moon, letting go of expected outcomes is crucial, as frustration and disappointment can hinder your manifestation efforts.
Taurus Moon: Vision board collages, affirmations, and gratitude
Why: For Taurus Moons, creating something tangible in alignment with your goals and visions can satisfy your eye for beauty as well as your creativity. Since Taurus is the sign of stability and security, repeating affirmations in the mirror and practicing gratitude can increase your self esteem and overall happiness, making manifestation a lot easier and faster for you.
Gemini Moon: Getting specific, 369 method, scripting
Why: With a Gemini Moon, thoughts can get a little scattered, making specific goals and plans a little harder to focus on - but this is essential. Figure out exactly what you want and write it down. The 369 method can help you focus on your desires by writing them down morning, afternoon, and night. Scripting is also helpful for getting specific, while writing is a usual tool to channel your energy.
Cancer Moon: Moon rituals, crystals, mediations
Why: Cancer is naturally ruled by the Moon, making Moon rituals perfect for you. New Moons especially are great for manifesting and making Moon water, which you can use to wash your floors, wash your face, or simply dab on your wrists and neck like perfume every morning. (New) Moon water is great because you can use it throughout the month. Crystals and meditations are also amazing for calming the mind and in conjunction, are a super powerful way to manifest.
Leo Moon: Affirmations, vision board, and acts of faith
Why: Affirmations are so Leo-coded. Like Taurus, it's essential for you to raise your confidence and esteem in order to manifest, which is why acts of faith is also included on the list. Acts of faith, for example, is when you buy supplies to make candles because you know one day you'll have a candle store. Or, when you book a vacation a few months out because you know by then you'll reach your fitness goals. A vision board will satisfy your need for creativity, while serving a reminder to stay focused.
Virgo Moon: Letting go, trust the process, and scripting
Why: Since I'm a Virgo Moon myself, I know how this placement can overthink and scramble for a sense of control. You need to let go and trust the universe. Scripting, like Gemini Moon, can help organize your thoughts. As long as your clear about your goals and do every writing exercise you can think of to help it come to life, you'll be fine. You got it.
Libra Moon: Artistic rituals, law of attraction, visualization
Why: Using artistic rituals like drawing, painting, singing, or other creative outlets can help your desires come to life. For Law of Attraction, when you show the Universe and others generosity, kindness, and love, it will be returned 3-fold. Visualizing your goals in a harmonious and aesthetically pleasing way is sure to fast track turn your manifestations into reality.
Scorpio Moon: Energy alignment, water rituals, and meditation
Why: Channeling your intense energy to manifest your desires is a key way to get your dreams into your reality. Embodying your desires is crucial for Scorpio Moons. Do you want to be a CEO? Think, dress, and act like one. Water rituals like adding cinnamon and roses to your bath or enchanting your body soap through intention can help as well. Manifesting and uncovering your hidden desires can further put you into alignment with who you are and your higher self.
Sagittarius Moon: Visualization, taking action, believing in yourself
Why: For Sagittarius Moons, visualizing not only how it feels once you get you what you want but the adventure of getting it can be super helpful. Taking action and believing in yourself is super important as well, because who is Sagittarius without a little optimism and confidence?
Capricorn Moon: Detailed plan, crystals, setting intentions
Why: I feel as though detailed plan is pretty self explanatory for Capricorn Moons, as they thrive on structure and discipline. Crystals can help ground your energy and reconnect you with your element - Earth. For setting intentions, getting up every morning with a small goal can further manifest your dreams into reality.
Aquarius Moon: Meditation, journaling, acts of faith
Why: Meditation can help Aquarius Moon uncover what they truly want, even better if they listen to 741 Hz (the manifestation frequency). Journaling is also a great way to do this and can help you stay on track. Acts of faith can help put this process into motion, buying things, clearing out a space, and taking small steps like you've already attained your goal is super important.
Pisces Moon: Guided sleep meditations, solitude, shadow work
Why: A little different than just meditating, your power is most potent when asleep and in solitude. Guided sleep meditations can be most usual for you when your literally between dreams and reality. Doing shadow work and reflecting on yourself and who you are can throw away baggage that keeps you from manifesting your goals into your life.

Simblr.cc - but better!
A lot has changed! Not only does it have a new lick of paint, it comes with way more features now!
Psst! If you are new to the site, please read this post first: Click me!
✨New Features
There are a lot of exciting new features:
An improved (Tumblr) importer.
A better Stories uploader.
A new lightweight uploader for quick, small posts.
A completely redesigned projects page with a fresh, modern look!
A redesign of the feed page + being able to like posts on said feed
You can now upload stories as "scenes" that appear on the feed, while still being part of a full, easily navigable story!
A new "Welcome" page, giving more people exposure to their stuff!
And... of course some bug fixes and teeny tiny User experience issues. 😉
🐦Lightweight Uploader
Something I'm super proud of putting together, the Lightweight uploader!
It streamlines the process of uploading simple pictures—no more navigating through multiple pages. Everything is on one easy-to-use page.
If you're logged in, you can access it directly from the Feed or via the "Upload/Post" option in the navbar.
Compatible Post Types:
WIPs
Gameplay
Personal
Lookbook
Familiar and Intuitive Features
If you're used to Tumblr's posting mechanism, you'll notice some recognizable elements:
Drag and Drop Images: Arrange your pictures to create collages! Each row holds up to 3 images, and you can add as many rows as you want.
Simpler Tagging: Tags are now easier to select.
Optional Titles and Descriptions: For WIPs and Personal Posts, titles and descriptions are optional. For other posts, they're still available but not required.
Streamlined and intuitive, the Lightweight Uploader makes sharing your content easier than ever!
📥 Improved Importer:
What's New?
New Importer: Pillowfort! We’ve added a brand-new import option: Pillowfort!
Tumblr Importer:
Previously, the Tumblr Importer relied heavily on your theme, which often caused errors if your theme wasn’t quite right. Fixing those errors was frustrating for both of us!
What’s changed? The importer now uses the official Tumblr API to grab your posts. This means imports will work flawlessly 99% of the time.
Plus, when you share a post on Simblr.cc, the importer will reblog it on Simblr.cc's Tumblr, giving you more exposure—that’s what Simblr.cc is all about!
What about past uploads?
I'm working to have the importer recognize whether your upload is CC or a Gameplay item (not live yet).
Support is being added to reblog posts from the old Tumblr Importer, so those uploads can still shine!
More import options are on the way in the future!
🖊 Improved Stories Uploader
Easier for Writers and readers! 😉
When creating a new story or legacy, you now have three options:
Chapter-Only Story
Chapters & Scenes Story
Scenes-Only Story
Important: All stories created before this update are currently set to Chapters-Only.
What’s the Difference Between a Chapter and a Scene?
Introducing Scenes! Previously, stories and legacies were strictly chapter-based, meaning you could only release a full chapter at a time. Now, with scenes, you have more flexibility!
A scene works like a storyteller’s post on Tumblr—it appears on your feed. This means your scenes can be shared on Simblr.cc’s Feed (but not the Stories browse page) even before the full chapter is published, making it easier for readers to discover your story.
Note: A "Scenes-Only" story works just like a "Chapters & Scenes" story—just without the chapters! 😉
Can I Change My Story Type?
You can change a Chapters-Only Story to a Chapters & Scenes Story. However, you cannot switch from Chapters-Only to Scenes-Only or any other combination.
Though, you will have to ask me to do this for you, due to the way it's currently set up.
Afterwords:
Note: Since this entire platform was built by just one person (me!), it might still have some bugs I haven’t come across yet. Please understand that most social media platforms have entire teams working on features like this, and therefore I can't promise a super "bug free" experience.
So, If you spot any bugs, please don’t hesitate to report them—it’ll help make the platform even better, and it also helps me out! Thanks for your support! 😊

PLEASE JUST LET ME EXPLAIN REDUX
AI {STILL} ISN'T AN AUTOMATIC COLLAGE MACHINE
I'm not judging anyone for thinking so. The reality is difficult to explain and requires a cursory understanding of complex mathematical concepts - but there's still no plagiarism involved. Find the original thread on twitter here; https://x.com/reachartwork/status/1809333885056217532
A longpost!
Tumblr media
This is a reimagining of the legendary "Please Just Let Me Explain Pt 1" - much like Marvel, I can do nothing but regurgitate my own ideas.
You can read that thread, which covers slightly different ground and is much wordier, here; https://x.com/reachartwork/status/1564878372185989120
This longpost will; Give you an approximately ELI13 level understanding of how it works Provide mostly appropriate side reading for people who want to learn Look like a corporate presentation
This longpost won't; Debate the ethics of image scraping Valorize NFTs or Cryptocurrency, which are the devil Suck your dick
WHERE DID THIS ALL COME FROM?
The very short, very pithy version of *modern multimodal AI* (that means AI that can turn text into images - multimodal means basically "it can operate on more than one -type- of information") is that we ran an image captioner in reverse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The process of creating a "model" (the term for the AI's ""brain"", the mathematical representation where the information lives, it's not sentient though!) is necessarily destructive - information about original pictures is not preserved through the training process.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The following is a more in-depth explanation of how exactly the training process works. The entire thing operates off of turning all the images put in it into mush! There's nothing left for it to "memorize". Even if you started with the exact same noise pattern you'd get different results.
Tumblr media
SO IF IT'S NOT MEMORIZING, WHAT IS IT DOING?
Great question! It's constructing something called "latent space", which is an internal representation of every concept you can think of and many you can't, and how they all connect to each other both conceptually and visually.
Tumblr media
CAN'T IT ONLY MAKE THINGS IT'S SEEN?
Actually, only being able to make things it's seen is sign of a really bad AI! The desired end-goal is a model capable of producing "novel information" (novel meaning "new").
Let's talk about monkey butts and cigarettes again.
Tumblr media
BUT I SAW IT DUPLICATE THE MONA LISA!
This is called overfitting, and like I said in the last slide, this is a sign of a bad, poorly trained AI, or one with *too little* data. You especially don't want overfitting in a production model!
To quote myself - "basically there are so so so many versions of the mona lisa/starry night/girl with the pearl earring in the dataset that they didn't deduplicate (intentionally or not) that it goes "too far" in that direction when you try to "drive there" in the latent vector and gets stranded."
Tumblr media
Anyway, like I said, this is not a technical overview but a primer for people who are concerned about the AI "cutting and pasting bits of other people's artworks". All the information about how it trains is public knowledge, and it definitely Doesn't Do That.
There are probably some minor inaccuracies and oversimplifications in this thread for the purpose of explaining to people with no background in math, coding, or machine learning. But, generally, I've tried to keep it digestible. I'm now going to eat lunch.
Post Script: This is not a discussion about capitalists using AI to steal your job. You won't find me disagreeing that doing so is evil and to be avoided. I think corporate HQs worldwide should spontaneously be filled with dangerous animals.
Cheers!

The horror of Eric Carle
Tumblr media
Becoming a dad has really been a reminder of all the half-forgotten books that got me interested in horror: the ones that I will definitely share with my kid (The Minpins) and the ones that I probably won't (Not Now, Bernard)
And then there's Eric Carle, and now it's all coming flooding back - the very first time in my life that I experienced terror. Seriously, what the fuck is this?
Carle's most famous book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, is in its own way uneasy and strange (the caterpillar's voracious and growing hunger is presented ambiguously both as an unavoidable and natural process of change and something greedy and grotesque; the caterpillar appears to devour its own place-of-birth and then feels good about it) but it flies under the radar by being very unCarle-like. The caterpillar is largely tiny and cute, we get plenty of colourful close-ups of tasty-looking food, and there are only two pages and a cover which feature Carle's favourite preoccupation: giant animals with irregular, scissor-cut eyes staring unhappily at the reader as they threaten to grow larger than the page itself.
Tumblr media
I genuinely remember feeling deeply unnerved by Carle's first major piece of illustration work, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, written with Bill Martin Jr., but only now do I understand why. Holy shit, I have so many questions.
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? I see a red bird looking at me.
Why is the rhyme-scheme so frantic and breathless, like it's being chanted out during an escalating ritual somewhere deep in the forests? Why are the animals - textured via collage as if half-carved from wood themselves - staring directly at us, the audience, before then revealing that they're actually looking behind us at something else which is staring back at them in turn? Why do so many of the animals look so fearful and haunted as they acknowledge the vast web of visibility which exists between them?
Tumblr media
Why does the 'white dog' page - perhaps the only-genuinely-friendly-looking animal - briefly plunge us into night-time, creating the impression that these creatures are somehow watching each other across spans of time and space, when Carle is fully capable of just drawing an outline around the dog?
Why is the teacher's neck extending like a xenomorph's tongue as she glares with narrowed eyes down at the children (what horrible act have they caught her doing?) Why is the cover of follow-up Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear clearly depicting a Tuunbaq stalking the reader?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What seems remarkable and bizarre is that Carle, a talented artist, deliberately chooses to draw animals for infant readers which are neither cute nor charming but which consistently embody the internet joke about hares - feral wilderness prophets who've glimpsed the truth of the universe and gone mad - and has made a stunningly successful career out of doing so.
Carle's beasts know something terrible that they do not fully understand, and which they are incapable of sharing with us.
I'll avoid the crass temptation to draw serious biographical inferences here (Carle believed he had PTSD from an adolescence spent in Nazi Germany, and his works were inspired by his childhood walks with his father, who returned home psychologically shattered by his own experiences as a Soviet prisoner-of-war) and just say that there is something wonderful, awful and innocent in the fact that perhaps the most popular baby-book artist of all time, when asked to draw a goldfish, would respond with what is clearly a monstrous open-mouthed leviathan rising up from black depths to devour us all.
Look at this horrible fucking thing. It rocks.

Any tips for new or returning artists?
I’m hoping to discover my own art style this year (from scratch, no references) by just throwing myself into learning anatomy, drawing random characters, and praying I can figure out how to add depth to pieces.
I have very minimal artistic experience and my work has improved significantly from where I started years ago, but not even close to where I’m hoping to be.
I can freehand faces and tweak the anatomy accordingly but I feel limited. Maybe it’s (in part) because I’m using an iPad, apple pen and Procreate? I recently added the paper-feel screen cover and that’s helped significantly with control.
Do you draw on paper to help your muscle memory? Honestly, ANYTHING helps. I watch videos on anatomy and art all of the time — I just don’t know if my brain is absorbing it correctly 😭
Hello! I don't know if I can say anything in particular to the returning aspect of your situation since I've drawn pretty consistently all of my life, but if someone else has had that experience of picking the skill back up after a long break, feel free to share your thoughts in the replies!
I'm not fully sure what you mean by "hoping to discover my own art (...) from scratch, no references", but if it means trying to whip up a style from thin-air and blocking out all outside influence or take any inspiration from existing art that you like... Uh... Don't do that! I don't see the benefit. All art is a derivation of a derivation, I can assure you that by compiling a folder or collage of your favorite works, borrowing and reworking aspects that you like, you WILL land on an original style and have learned so much more about it in the process than if you hadn't done that at all.
Also I can assure you that drawing on procreate/ipad is not a hindrance whatsoever, plenty of professional artists prefer it over display tablets. @wolfskulljack-art comes to mind as someone who has created several incredible tour posters for Metallica, all in her ipad.
I must have drawn on paper a total of 10 times in the last 5 years, I have no idea if that's bad or not... It Probably is, but I'm at peace with it, LOL. Generally when it comes to improving ( and I know that this is a frustrating answer) the secret is to just draw a lot. There is no class that is going to take you from amateur to Caravaggio, it takes time and takes making "bad" art. A lot of bad art. When it comes to learning anatomy, I think the best thing you can do is draw a lot of real-life human bodies from reference while consulting an anatomical diagram or model of some kind. Otherwise you will just making a bunch of lines without ever understanding their purpose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't think you need to be an expert at the human body AT ALL before jumping into stylization and making confident, art, but if you do something like this whenever you draw I think you will end up learning a whole lot. Muscle memory (no pun intended) will come to you naturally!
I also have a lot more tips in my #tutorial and #advice tags that you can look through if you want to, otherwise, I would tell you to just do more drawing and less looking for the perfect tutorial or golden advice. A lot of artists get very boggled down in learning in the most correct and effective way, and while there are pointers that can be given, they tend to be very straightforward🤷 and the rest falls on you to follow through with!

why scan?
scanning is something i've done for probably about 12 years now (i'm ancient, for this site), with varying degrees of regularity, intensity, etc. it has ratcheted up since the dawn of 2023, though, which begs the question: why? why put so much time into what could not-wrongly be considered a passive activity, hunched over a piece of clunky machinery with the express purpose of preserving others' creations? the answers are several, and fascinating (not really).
i am a [sober] drug addict. anything i pursue, consume, create--more often than not--ends up taking on addictive qualities. i'll eat the same specific food item for a month, then never want to see, let alone taste it, again. i'll listen to one song on repeat for days until i'd rather hear nails on a chalkboard than have it shuffle on and assault my ears. one of the reasons that my scanning has increased in volume recently is that i acquired library cards to the 3 nyc library systems: nypl, brooklyn, and queens. as soon as i was able to, i pillaged + plundered those fine centers of learning, leaving any given library with as many hefty scan-worthy books as i could [barely] carry. here, finally, was a *free* way of obtaining more + more + more visual media to consume.
2023 saw me get my first legal, full-time job. as such, my adjusting to that hellish reality resulted in a steep decline in my own personal creative output. collaging, writing, and rapping all fell to the wayside as i slowly acclimated to a life of work that almost everyone else my age has known for over a decade is generally unbearable + detrimental to the maintenance of outside pursuits. in times of famine within my own artistic harvest, scanning, archiving, and sharing others' work is a means of feeling as though i am still contributing to the global oeuvre.
there’s an element of losing my mental self in a series of physical motions that becomes almost automatic after some time. “zoning out” is not something endemic to my daily life; if anything, i’m almost always too zoned in. relief is necessary.  especially considering the shitshow this past year has been in terms of my personal life.
i am a product of capitalism’s cultivating a craving for constant consumption.
it seems that visual content is only going to continue to get more + more uninspired. has everything been done? did social media ruin it all? in any case, i feel a need to document the past. to a degree, it’s my version of doomsday prepping. (god forbid books go extinct altogether.)
i have always gravitated towards solitary activities. this topic could be a thesis in its own right.
i thrive on external validation. this reliance is something i’ve improved upon over the past several years, but it hasn’t been altogether extinguished. even though the materials i scan are not of my own creation, i nevertheless feel a vague pride in showcasing them. occasional appreciation thereof satisfies this fixation on others’ attention, albeit in a diluted form.
i am fortunate to live in a city bursting to the gills with cultural institutions. i am also lucky enough to have some disposable income that can be directed toward fulfilling my ravenous desire for visual media.
((i keep getting messages about the specifics of my scanner + "process":
i have a cheap ass hp envy 6055e and i just use the software it comes with.
there's nothing special or fancy happening here, and i could definitely invest in a better and/or a large format scanner, etc. but i really just don't care enough and it's not like i'm getting paid for this lmao))

this may be too much to ask but do you have a tut on how to draw turtles in the mm style?? (or just at all my ass is suffering. i need to draw tmnt but my brain doesnt know how :c)
Tumblr media
Sure ! I’ll try my best to explain (I made one after the first tottmnt trailer came out it’s outdated so I’m remaking it)
If you’re talking abt mm movie style , I don’t think I’m skillful on them enough to make an art tutorial 😭💔they’re hard for me to draw too
Info on keep reading :D !!
Tumblr media
- I take hundreds of screenshots + download promo art and a create collage of it , use it as a ref sheet. I study on the shapes , proportions , and style of each character.
Tumblr media
- Then I pick an image from the pile to see if it’s a good pose (if not, I find poses from other resources to draw) or expression I want to use as reference for my drawing
- then I start sketching , adding the sharp details . Clean up on lineart and color later
Other Notes :
- Tales of the TMNT artstyle uses sharp sketchy lines to give it that sketchbook artstyle
- In some frames from the show, Their eyes are pentagon shaped & pupils are not fully colored in. Mask tails have different styles too
- Each turtle not only have different headshapes , they have different plastron shapes too (these are fugly examples I accidentally deleted the OG layer of this and had to redo it LMAO)
Tumblr media
- Looking at Tales crew art also rlly helps! (There’s a lot of them on the #/talesofthetmnt tag on insta & twitter)
the Tales of the TMNT artstyle is easy to nail imo , it’s like more of a simpler version of the rise of the TMNT artstyle if that make sense ?? That’s how I personally feel lololol
If you never drawn TMNT before , just go slow on your art process , look at references, & take your time . Draw the characters in your own style first if you want :] just to feel more comfortable and less stress trying to replicate the iteration’s style . overall , have fun <3
I usually suckkk at these art tutorial stuff but hope this helps :D !!

🎨✨️Art Magic✨️🎨
Uses, Forms of it, and Why I Think Everyone Should Try it at Least Once.
Tumblr media
Foreword
Right before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I had been trying and failing to rekindle my flame for magic work. No matter what I tried to do I just couldn't get back into my studies and I was reaching a point where I was convinced I lost my spark and was doomed to live an empty life. Then it all changed when a YouTube Channel challenged how I thought about everything: Molly Roberts. That's when I was opened to the possibility of art magic, and I'll now share my love of it with anyone willing to read on.
What Is Art Magic?
A means to utilize art for spellwork, raising magical energy, or for exploring your magical subconscious. It encapsulates multiple different types of art and is generally not confined by conventional expectation (unless that's what you prefer).
You can utilize art magic by. . .
Using traditional art methods
Digital art methods
Collages
Music composition
Jewelry making
Embroidery
And much more!
How do I know if Art Magic is Suitable for Me?
There isn't a specific thing that'll indicate this form of magic is perfect for you, however I have some anecdotes from my personal experience as both a witch, and a regular artist that form a sort of idea on what could denote this being perfect for you!
First off, craving freedom from personal restraints was a big factor that pushed me towards blending my craft with my passion for art. If you want to run from the monotony of life, if you feel trapped by the social construction of boxes, or if you simply want to challenge your own mental restraints... then this idea might resonate with you.
Challenging yourself with a new form of magic, similarly, can also be a good enough reason to try. I'm the type of person who loves to constantly learn new things and I unfortunately get bored really quickly if I can't get new source materials. Using Art Magic has proven a fun challenge for me that allows me to explore a lot more topics you can't just open a book to find.
For those that may not be able to safely perform a lot of traditional style spells, this form of magic provides a discreet way to practice witchcraft. Most people wouldn't really question someone if they picked up the hobby of making art, and even if they did there's plenty of reasonable excuses out there.
How you prefer your spells to manifest themselves can also affect if this journey is a good idea or not. I find that Art Magic is really good when it comes to subtle spellwork that is more longform (though depending on how you construct them you can definitely create a spell that's the opposite).
Catalog aspects of your magical journey. Imagine a grimoire filled with pages of drawings, each one telling a story of something you experienced or learned as a witch. This especially may be more beneficial for visual learners.
You could use it as a means of meditation, sometimes art can be calming and it can open the door to your mind (so-to-speak). Especially if you're like me and struggle with staying completely still while trying to clear your mind, this may be helpful for you.
Trying to better understand archetypes, deities, types of entities, or even your own self can also be a big part of this. I've used art magic as a way to embody the "energy" of something before so I could better understand it. Especially when you're trying to seek knowledge that isn't often written on, it can provide a great way to explore more.
How Can I perform an Art Spell?
I have a step-by-step process that can give you some insight on how you may approach it:
1) Think of the intention you want. I like to close my eyes and meditate on it for about a minute then I write down if my mind wandered to any specific imagery or ideas.
2) Think of visual symbolism and colors that can help you capture the mood you want. Perhaps you need a warm color palette to invoke positive feelings, or maybe there are specific objects or animals you can include on the composition that represent something.
3) If you feel it fits your composition, you can include sigils, symbols of significance, and include shapes that have certain associations. It doesn't even have to be obvious either. You can use a circular composition to convey something endless for example, or a triangular composition to show priority over something.
4) In general follow what your heart tells you. This is a little cliche, but ultimately follow what seems best to you. Art isn't about boxing yourself in and my guidelines are just general ideas for anyone who's lost!
Why do I think that everyone should try it at least once?
From my experiences as a witch, I find that a lot of paths to be followed are quite rigid. By no means am I implying that a rigid structure is bad-- it creates a foundation from which we can work upon. I myself am exploring rigid, 'traditional' (for lack of a better term) ways of working magic. Art magic pushes you out of your comfort zone in a safe way. It makes you consider how you associate things. It makes you create new sigils and makes you research new symbols you previously wouldn't have used.
So next time you're lost on a spell, or you've lost your way in your Craft and you don't know what to do, think about maybe giving Art Magic a try. I hope my guide was a helpful starting point for anyone interested in the topic!

How to make manifestation fun
Manifestation has become a little too logical and tactical on this blog—that’s how this post was born! ENJOY!
Tumblr media
Here’s a list of fun activities to make manifesting more enjoyable and engaging:
Vision Board
Create a physical or digital vision board with images, words, and symbols representing your desires. Use magazines, stickers, or Pinterest for inspiration.
Gratitude Jar
Decorate a jar and write down things you're grateful for, along with affirmations about what you're manifesting. Read them aloud weekly.
Scripting
Write a journal entry as if your dream life is already happening. Use vivid details and emotions to make it feel real.
Manifestation Dance Party
Dance to your favorite songs while imagining the feelings of achieving your desires. Move your body to align with joy and abundance.
Creative Art
Paint, draw, or craft something symbolic of your manifestation. For example, create a piece of art that represents the life you want.
Affirmation Karaoke
Sing your affirmations to the tune of your favorite songs. It’s silly, but it boosts your mood and helps your affirmations stick.
Nature Walk Visualization
Take a walk in nature and visualize your desires while feeling connected to the earth. Pick up a stone or leaf as a “manifestation token.”
Manifestation Jar or Box
Write down your goals or dreams on slips of paper and put them in a decorated jar or box. Shake it gently every day while focusing on your intention.
Guided Manifestation Meditations
Try a fun meditation app or YouTube video where you visualize your goals in a playful or fantastical way.
Role-Playing Your Future Self
Dress up as the version of you who has already achieved your goal. Act like that person for a day or an evening.
Affirmation Mirror Work
Write affirmations on sticky notes and place them on your mirror. Read them out loud with excitement and energy.
Create a Manifestation Playlist
Curate a playlist of songs that make you feel empowered, abundant, or joyful. Play it when you need to boost your energy.
Use Crystals or Essential Oils
Incorporate tools like crystals or essential oils associated with abundance, love, or peace while meditating or journaling.
Storytelling with Friends
Share your dreams with friends as if they’ve already come true. Encourage them to celebrate with you.
Write Yourself a Future Letter
Write a letter to yourself dated a year from now, describing how amazing your life is and how everything you desired has manifested.
Create a Manifestation Board Game
Turn your goals into a fun, personal board game where every step represents progress toward your dream.
Take Inspired Action “Challenges”
Gamify the process of taking steps toward your goals. For example, give yourself points for completing tasks aligned with your desires.
Dream Jar for Fun Rewards
Tie small rewards to your manifestations. For example, every time you visualize, add a small treat to a “manifestation reward jar.”
Celebrate Small Wins
Throw a mini celebration every time you see signs of your manifestations (angel numbers, synchronicities, etc.).
Gratitude Collage
Create a collage combining things you’re grateful for and things you’re manifesting. Display it somewhere visible.

Here's the new single from my album Javelin. Video animated by Stephen Halker. “Will Anybody Ever Love Me?” More info here.
THANK YOU.
Quick background about the video: my friend Stephen Halker took elements from the album art that I made (collage, paper arts, paintings etc.) and incorporated them into these really wild CGI fantasy landscapes that he created. He sent me some notes about his process and approach that I thought were really cool, if you're interested.
From Stephen:
"This is what I was really thinking about when i made this video:
It's like walking into someone's soul. First they put up these facades that look normal, but then you find out how messy they are.
I wanted it to start out super normal and cultivated. a landscape made flat by the machinations of an agrarian society.
Then a nice walk through a forest. nothing special. but more wild
Then the expanse of a grand canyon.... but you go, "hey what's that thing on the ground? Is that supposed to be there?
The grasslands are when you start to see curated memories. clean circles of thoughts.  Everything is still manageable, manicured, controlled.  but what's that on the horizon.  looks like there's some bigger thoughts buried in those grassy north dakotan buttes.
Then comes the chorus.  You gotta mix it up for the chorus.  This scene is called darklands in my computer.  I made the hexagons to reference Carrie and Lowell.  i thought of this structure as if it was the longings of the heart. this sort of plinth of idols. Starting with the starlet from the "Will anybody ever love me" page of the booklet.  Then transferring that longing to archetype.... then parents, family, friends,  the love of the masses...
Once you know this much about someone, the rest of it is just is just a continuation of craziness. I wanted to morph from contained circles toward individual cut out shapes.
moving through different corridors and memories.
  Obsessing over one memory.
Building towers of meaning, trying to make sense of moments events through repetition and fortification.
Second chorus was supposed to recall some of the previous scenes.  the wheat, the Planet, travelling through the same hexagons, but this time they aren't filled with icons. just patterns.
you travel through the puffy paint wormhole into a less tethered version of the self.
No more landscape. just a repetition of memories.  The world has fallen away.
I've always loved phyllotaxis and golden sections. they feel very.... "this goes on forever"-y.
The image of your face split in half, thrown into this fibonacci sequence reminded me of your "perpetual self" song from avalanche (which has always stuck with me)
There's a floor again. but now it's just the triangle and tape patterns. illuminated.
Flip to the image of Katrina under the owl was giving off a strong "athena" vibe.  Goddess of wisdom, craft, warfare.  She could make sense of my warring emotions.
End scene."

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished |
〚Twisted Wonderland x Elphaba!Reader〛
[you the wicked witch from the west had died, but to your surprise you had woken up inside a coffin in an unfamiliar world. You had also noticed your magic had more freedom and your power seem to mix to those in this world] < FYI : no Fiyero doesn't exist in your OZ world, you are completly alone, >
♱⁺. ⋆˙✧⋆꒷꒦꒷⋆✧˙⋆⊹.♱♱⁺. ⋆˙✧⋆꒷꒦꒷⋆✧˙⋆⊹.♱♱⁺. ⋆˙✧⋆꒷꒦꒷⋆✧˙⋆⊹.♱
you had accepted your fate to be painted as the villain and died by a very underhand method such as being thrown water. That pesky girl who has killed your sister, and the con who had framed you the real magician. You had tried your best to help everybody and every creature from a crueler fate, only for those same people to go against you, going as far as holding a witch hunt for you.
Fated to be scorned just for the green hue of your skin, something you had no control over. Such a heinous thing humanity is. you could hear the party that they will throw over your death, No one mourns for the wicked, save for your best friend, Glinda, who had been wiser than to judge based on appearance, a true friend. Unfortunately, she too was unable to save you from your grueling fate.
Yet here you are, trapped in a coffin.
"Have I finally died?" you thought. What more does God want from you, did They think that punishment is not enough for you?
you scoffed at the thought.
You were startled when the lid was suddenly slammed open by a racoon? Cat? looking creature with fire ears demanding your robe?
' Did this creature think this robe on me is going to fit him?'
'Also where did this robe come from? and did he think that by giving the robe he was going to let a woman bare naked? what a crazy guy'
so, you ran, pulling the hood, as you thought it is better for no body to find out that you are horrendious green from head to toe, and finding yourself in an impressive library. The creature had cornered you Just before the headmage trapped him in his leash using his power.
"Ah, i've found you at last. Splendid. I trust you're one of this year's new students." he then went on and on about how you should've controlled your familiar.
" Woah! we never have a student as... green as you.. how unusual." he said upon seeing your hand. You quickly covered your hand with your robe just as you had covered your face.
" that is alright, Here in NIght Raven collage we accept everybody just as how they are as long as they are chosen by the mirror of course."
He then forced you to go back to the room with coffin. There you found a lot of students wearing the same robe as you.
' is this the same type of school as Shiz University?'
The headmage, Crowley end his bickering with some other students before beckoning you to move to the mirror. You had yourself walk foward to the strange talking mirror. As strange as your original world is you had never seen a magical talking mirror. Sure, a talking face, but it is a mechanic created to be an illusion by that horrible con, Oz.
you hated the attention that is suddenly drafted towards you, you slouch as you reached the Dark mirror.
" The nature of your soul is........ unclear to me."
" what did you say?!"
" sure i can sense a magical power residing on this girl, yet it is unfamiliar, strange, foreign.. i have never encounter this sort of power in my whole life. therefore no dorm is appropriate."
Dorm? Magic power? what the hell is this mirror on about.
" Are you suggesting the black carriage went to receive a Girl?! and with a strange magic? Absurd! the student selection process has not erred once in its century of existence! how could this happened?!"
"HMMPH! ME! Let me have this student place!" the creature who called himself Grim had broken free from the leash. He then started insisting and creating a huge chaos.
in a panic you noticed you still have your grimore with you. odd i thought i had given this to Glinda to protect. you quickly flip over the pages.
you found and recite a spell for the target to follow your word for a brief minute just before the little guy breathe his flame towards a red eyed boy.
"Sit boy, down."
to your surprise most of the students and the headmage himself had fallen down to their butt sitting as they looked bewildred.
" a... i meant that creature not you."
"RAGHHHH!! UNHAND ME UNHAND MEE!" Grim shrilled.
" how... HOW DARE YOU? UNHAND ME THIS INSTANT!" said the red hair boy
" impossible..." said the pretty glasses guy.
" How brazen of you to order Me around, I will rip you into pieces." said the lion eared guy. odd he reminded you of that cowardly lion you had saved, such ungrateful creature whomst had blamed his cowardice on you.
" You! How dare you make me touch the floor!" said the gorgeous blind guy with purple tip.
"Whoaa?!! i am on the floor?!! How??" the boy with the bandana wrapped around his white hair exclaimed.
" Wuh WHAAA.. what is this ssr op power?! scary..." the floating tablet shouted.
" To be casted with a spell how unruly the new student this year is. OH, woe is me... Uncast me this instant!!!"
The other students had started to cuzz profanities at you as well making you more nervous. ' Ah its this again, everytime i tried to help.. i get punished..'
you fumbled around confused as usually in your world the enchantment would only work towards the target intended and usually the enchantment you practied were a permanent one, you hoped this won't last long.
" don't tell me you do not know how to unchant your spell?"
"uhhh..."
thank fully in a moment your enchantment is broken as the headmage start to stand up and dust himself, so as the other students.
The red haired boy spring up and start to point his gem pen? towards you.
" OFF WITH YOUR HE--"
" that won't be necessary Mr. Roseheart. Now you!"
The bird feathered headmage ripped oven your hood as he exposed you to the whole school followed with gasps acrossm the room.
" she is green?!"
" i never seen a green person before."
You grow weary and insecure as you tried to remove the headmage hold on you.
"I'm sorry i didn't mean to, But i acted in panic because this cuz is going to fire his flame to that white haired guy!" you defended yourself.
" haaa.. for now throw this creature out of the game. and the ceremony should end here." he said as you saw students following the guys somewhere.
" now you come with me.."
he tried to bring you back where you came from to no avail so he settle for you to reside in the abandoned dorm, of course that is interrupted by the same creature. although, your impression of him seem to falter as he was obedient towards you and you found his catlu behaviour rather cute, so you dont mind to have him as your companion. Crowley explain the situation to you, but since you are a girl you are still exempt from the courses and sadly are forced towards cleaning duty. He of course didn't hear you when you state that you had died in your world and so his agreement are something you can't refuse.
The next day you are met with Ace and his cocky personality trying to get even with the incident at the opening ceremony, you, not wanting to throw another chaos, refrain from using your spells since you had not learn the extend of the effect of this world to your power, but of course, Grim had to assert himself and created the chaos for you.
You are then met with Deuce who had helped you catch the running criminal trying to run away from his job, this of course before the chase went on and you three ended up breaking the expensive rare chandelier and had to find the replacement stone. and the story goes.
that is the story of how you become a NRC student with your trusty companion or familiar, Grim and how you and grim, with your fellow 1st year whom you meet along the way have an epic adventure to deal with overblots.
