There are a LOT of references to Dawn in this one. For example, using their names in the song! I recommend reading the Dawn translation by gyaxa too !

1. The MV for Brand New Dawn translated these lines already, so I kept them as the MV has them

2. The literal translation for this part is “it’s dark under the lighthouse”, which is an idiom that basically means people can’t tell what’s happening right under them. I couldn’t think of a short way to word this so sorry if the line’s a bit long…

3. Okay so this whole rap part has a lot of references to names and stuff so I separated it based on which person they’re referencing

↳ 3a. Kafka’s name is 大黒 可不可 .「Making the impossible possible」 is 「不可能を可能にする」、 having the kanji for Kafka. 「Black ships start to sail」 is 「黒船いざ大出航」、having the kanji for Oguro

↳ 3b. Yukikaze’s name is 神名 雪風 . 「Divine wind blows away the remaining snow」 is 「名残り雪は神風に吹かれ」, the kanji for Yukikaze Kamina

↳ 3c. Renga’s name is 西園 練牙 . 「I have no more regrets that I need to bite my fangs at」 is 「牙噛むような未練はもうない」、 having the kanji for Renga. 「Whether that’s north, south, east, or west」 has a kanji for Nishizono 「東西南北なんのソノ」

↳ 3d. Liguang’s name is 鹿 礼光 . 「Us 5 together, resounding our gratitude with a song and bow」  has Lu and part of Liguang 「華麗に回礼して 響かせる５名の鹿鳴」

↳ 3e. Ten’s name is 叢雲 添. 「Hoping that the wind in the sky doesn’t come」is「月に叢雲花に風」 which has Murakumo, and 「Even so, I’ll be with you forever」 is 「されどいつまでも付き添う」 which has Ten.

4. [SPOILERS FOR THE R1ZE MAIN STORY !!!!] Renga’s name 練牙 has the word 牙 in it. It’s also pronounced “Kiba” which is what Liguang calls the original Renga.

5. Ok I had to research this one. So the part where they said ５名の鹿鳴 confused me, but apparently in the Book of Songs, the oldest existing collection of Chinese poetry, a deer’s cry (鹿鳴) is a song sung at banquets to entertain guests.

6. 「Hoping that the wind in the sky doesn’t come」 (月に叢雲花に風 , literal translation is “clouds in the moon, wind in the flowers”) is a phrase meaning that things are going well, so you’re hoping that nothing bad happens. Like “all good things must come to an end.”

Satosugu (Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru) - I just really loved (and cried about) their backstory and their relationship. I know a lot of people insist that they’re just friends (and honestly I’m okay with that too) but I ship them anyways lol. [Jujutsu Kaisen]

Byler (Will Byers and Mike Wheeler) - am currently dodging bullets cause it’s shipping war season but I love these two and I’ve shipped them since season two. I respect mileven but I always thought they would be better as platonic best friends. [Stranger Things]

3. Percabeth (Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase) - favorite friends to lovers arc and they’re just amazing together (when they’re characterized correctly!!) literally a power couple. [PJO]

Today, he felt merciful.

“Okay, okay. Come here.” Reki reached an arm around, pulling Langa into his lap. “Gentle or rough?”

“Gentle please.” Langa asked, lips already twitching into a smile as Reki’s fingers walked up his side. Once they got to his ribs, they pressed gently, earning a soft string of giggles.

“Aren’t you cute~ Like a giggly penguin.” Reki cooed at him, keeping his touch incredibly light as he traced over the curve of his ribs. “I bet you’d make cute noises like one too when tickled, huh?”

“Dohoohoho pehehehnguins ehehheven mahhahake noohohoise?” Langa asked through his laughter, burying his face into Reki’s shoulder to muffle the sound. This only gave Reki more spaces to tickle. The redhead ran his hand up and down his side, clawing softly along the edge of his hip.

“Why ask me- you’re the one who grew up in snow!” Reki brought his other hand in, lightly tracing against Langa’s belly, earning whispered puffs of laughter from the other. “Granted, I doubt they have any penguins in Canada. Well- besides you of course.”

“I behehehetter be a cuhuhuhute one!” Langa snorted, curling into Reki’s hand like a kitten. His cheeks were an adorable rosy pink color, his expression one of pure happiness. It made Reki’s heart soar.

“Ohohohokay! Ohoohkay, I’m done!” Langa took Reki’s hands in his own, enclosing their fingers. “Thahahank you.”

Langa looked over to where Reki, Joe, and Cherry were standing, wondering who was shouting. Looking at Reki’s red face and Joe’s loud belly laughs, he guessed it was Reki. Was he okay?

Curious, Langa excused himself from his debate with Miya to ask them about it.

“Is everything okay?” Langa asked, concerned. “I heard yelling.”

“E-everything’s great! We were just talking! About, uh, cars!” Reki said, smiling awkwardly and scratching the back of his neck. “Just cars!”

“Cars?” Joe blurted, clearly amused. 

“Yes, cars, Joe!”

“Oh, okay. I’m going to go talk with Miya then. I want to race him” Langa replied, not fully believing the car excuse. He may be oblivious, but he can tell when someone’s made up a story on the spot. He decided to leave it. 

“Have funnnn!” Reki exclaimed, waving wildly. Langa gave a small smile and waved back, heart beating slightly faster at Reki’s smile.

Now to convince Miya to beef with him.

~Time Skip~

Langa was worried. Reki’s small changes in behavior towards him hadn’t gone unnoticed. The nervously bouncing leg, the quick glances, the excuses he made whenever Langa stepped into a conversation. Reiki was avoiding him, too, just a bit. S, which used to be a nightly thing, had become more two or three times a week, Reki making up reasons why he couldn’t go. Too tired, missed homework, errands, chores, the list went on. Langa went alone most nights now. 

Did he realize that I like him? Is that why he’s being strange? He isn’t usually like this. Does he not like guys? Am I giving too much away? Does he not want to be my friend anymore? Did I do something wrong?

He didn’t want to think too far into it. It was probably nothing, right? Reki’s a strange person in general, this most likely doesn’t mean anything. They aren’t fighting. Reki’s not avoiding him, he’s just busy. That’s all.

Nonetheless, he kept thinking about this while waiting at the intersection for his red-headed friend. And a few minutes later, there he was. Riding his board down the street, smiling like crazy and his hair blowing around wildly. 

“Beautiful.” He whispered, not taking his eyes off the boy in front of him. 

“What’s up, my dude! You ready to go?” Reki said, stopping his board and giving Langa a fistbump-high-five-combo they did everytime they saw each other. “Heard you convinced Miya to beef with you today!”

“Yeah, it took a bit of coaxing.” He laughed lightly. Reki looked away with a small blush across his cheeks. But even with this seemingly normal interaction, Langa felt that Reki looked at him differently than before. 

“Well, let’s go! I’ll race you!” 

“You're on!”

And there they went, speeding down the lit street, laughing their asses off.

~Time Skip to the next day~

It turns out Reki and Langa are more similar than people think. Because here is Langa, sitting in Sia La Luce after hours, talking to Joe about Reki. Joe must be some sort of love guru.

“I like Reki.” Langa says, looking up at the tall green-haired man.

“Yeah, I know, kid. It's pretty obvious.” Said man replies, sitting down next to Langa. 

“Really?”

“Yes.” He laughed lightly. These kids, so clueless and naive.

“Is that why he doesn’t look at me the same anymore? Does he know I like him?” Langa felt like he was going to cry.  

“Nah, kid. He’s about as clueless as you are.” Joe says.

“What does that mean?”

“Just go talk to him about it, Langa. Things will work out fine.”

“But how do you know it’ll be okay? What if he doesn’t…like me like that? What if he doesn’t want to be friends anymore? I can’t lose him!” Langa really was about to cry. A tear escaped his eye, rolling down his cheek and dripping onto the table. He quickly wiped away the salty streak it left behind on his face. More tears welled up in his greenish-blue eyes, swirling around like water down a drain as he tapped his fingertips on the wooden table. 

“Woah- hey! It’s okay, Langa, there’s no need to cry. Everything’s okay, alright?” Joe, normally a care-free individual, was genuinely worried about the Canadian boy. He had never seen Langa cry before. He hesitantly patted him on the back as Langa struggled not to completely collapse into a ball of tears. Joe thought about telling him of Reki’s feelings, but decided against it. This was something they had to work out themselves. “Everything’s alright.”

“He doesn’t look at me the same anymore. He avoids me. And he always has an excuse ready whenever I ask him about it. What did I do wrong?” His voice cracks, and the tears in his eyes come crashing down all at once. He brought his hands up to his face, body shaking with his sobs. 

“You didn’t do anything wrong, Langa. And Reki’s just…conflicted right now. It’s not your fault.”  Joe got up, stretching out his back. “How about I make you some poutine? It’ll make you feel better, I’m sure.”

Langa sniffed, looking up at the green-haired man. “Thanks.” 

After eating and thanking Joe for the comfort and food, Langa left Sia La Luce and started back home. Once he reached his window, though, he changed his mind. There was no way he could sleep with his mind running like this. He turned around and started skating towards the park that he and Reki frequented, stopping at the 24 hour gas station for a drink.

Once he arrived, he set his board down and sipped on the gatorade he bought. He wanted a monster, but it was too late for energy drinks. He swirled the red liquid around in its bottle, watching it spin. It reminded him of Reki’s hair. He continued this for a while, just thinking about Reki. His laugh, his smile, his eyes, his voice, his hands…the list went on. Reki’s amazing. 

Langa just sat there on his board, looking at the red gatorade and occasionally taking a sip. He was so engrossed in his thoughts that he didn’t notice the red-head coming up behind him.

“I wonder if I’ll ever be able to tell him how I feel about him.” The green eyed boy whispered.

“Tell who what?” Reki asked, poking Langa in the back. Langa yelped, jumping up from his skateboard and accidentally spilling his drink. Reki laughed, picking up the now-empty bottle. “Sorry about that.”

“I-it’s fine, Reki. You surprised me.” Langa replied, trying to catch his breath a bit and taking the bottle from Reki.

“Yeah, I kind of guessed.” He laughed again. “You okay? You seemed pretty lost in thought.”

Langa sat back down, sighing lightly. Reki followed suit. “Yeah, I’m okay.”

“You’re hardly ever out at 4am on a school night, dude. Did you ever even go home?”

“Couldn’t sleep.”

“Any particular reason?”

Langa paused, looking down at his shoes. His socks were mismatched today, one green, one white. 

“Actually, yeah.” He said, looking back up at Reki’s amber eyes. “I have something I need to tell you.”

Reki never meant to fall for Chat Noir.

He knew it was unprofessional, he knew, yet... while he (as Ladybug) handled the press and kept the situation under control, he always saw Chat Noir kneeling beside the akumatized person. Usually, he was overcome with pride at the sight of his partner wrapping a blanket around their shoulders and handing them a water bottle, but this time, it was different.

This time, it was a kid, someone around Koyomi's age. All they wanted was attention - they just wanted their parents to notice them. It was akumatization like these that were the hardest.

So, when Reki concluded the interview (he hated doing those - he hated when the news swarmed him and Chat after every battle) and turned to fist bump Chat, he froze, unable to tear his gaze from his partner - the kindest person alive - consoling the kid. When he blinked, it was as if he were watching Chat wiping away his sister's tears instead of this kid's.

His heart swelled, as something far different than pride coursed through his veins. The rhythmic thumping grew faster and his throat grew dryer by the second.

Yukikaze: He seemed to be focusing really hard, so I decided to watch without saying anything butーー I can’t watch anymore.

Please tell me what happened.

Just what kind of job do you have that is so difficult that you have to make such a demon-like expression…?

Kafka: Sigh… It’s nothing strange enough for you to worry about. He’s fine.

He came in saying that he’ll hurry up and “make a proposal that’s so thorough, easy to understand, and has nothing in it that could be criticized” so that he can go back to the school and get revenge on those cute kids.
