It’s been an adjustment lately getting used to all this fame and attention since Adele’s new album came out. Chocolate chip and red velvet, I figured you’d like one of them.” A smile spread across her face when he mentioned Chinese. “That is perfect. I don’t know when the last time I had Chinese food was.” She admitted. The blonde loved Chinese food, but didn’t get it often enough.

“Aw babe, you didn’t have to do all that.” He reached for the container she’d brought cookies in, eyeing them with a smirk, because he really fucking loved cookies, and it was really nice of her to go through the trouble. There was a lot of guilt he felt looking at the blonde, knowing how much she was going through, and during such a busy, and stressful time in her career. She was supposed to be in the heat of promo, and now she was dealing with a lot of added fuss. “Sit down, we’ll eat on the couch, and watch a movie or something. I got a projector instead of a tele.” He gestured at the screen pulled down on the wall, their Chinese containers strewn about the coffee table already. “How’re you feeling?”

Alison.

“I didn’t mind, and Destiny helped. She was very excited to know I was bringing them over here. She aid hi by the way.” Alison hadn’t been able to spend much time with her daughter since announcing the album, she had been really busy, so it had been nice to spend the day baking with her. Alison handed over the cookies, before moving over to the couch and taking a seat. “That’s fancy.” The blonde said, eyeing the Chinese that was on the table. “You weren’t kidding when you said you got a ton of food.” Alison was excited to dig in. “Feeling? I’m feeling fine.” That wasn’t true, but Alison was unaware that Roman knew about her pregnancy. “Uh — how are you feeling?”

Roman.

“Well, ya know me! I’m as fancy as they come.” He lied, teasing before he was giggling at the accusation that he wasn’t kidding about the amount of food. “Yeah. I...don’t know what I was thinking.” Roman took a seat with Alison on the couch, reaching to open up cartons, and get everything ready for his guest. He could tell by the way she was reacting to his question that she might be unaware that Aaron had told her she was pregnant. For a moment, he thought about mentioning it, but maybe he should wait a bit for that. “I’m okay, jus’ getting through this production, and trying to rest in between shows. I’m honestly just glad to finally have a place of my own instead of living at the theater. How’s everyone loving the new album? I’m obsessed.” He admitted while getting himself a pair of chopsticks.

Alison.

“See, I didn’t know that, but now I do.” She said, letting out a soft but sad laugh. “This is great, really.” Alison reached forward to grab one of the containers of rice, “Thank you for this.” Alison really needed to have a good night, as it had been a while since she had a good night. Between Aaron and Luca, Alison was far more stressed than she should be, especially while she was pregnant. “How’s the show going? Opening night show was great, but still going good after?” She questioned. “I’m glad you got this place. I’m sure it’s much better than living in the theater.” Alison grabbed a pair of chopsticks, leaning back against the couch. “The songs people have heard, they seem to be enjoying. Im impatient to be releasing the rest of the album though.”

Roman.

Roman could tell Alison was on edge. After everything that had happened with Aaron, and the baby...she needed a friend. He didn’t know how to say that, or how to let her know that he knew what was going on without maybe making her even more uncomfortable than she already was. He just...this was a sticky situation, and he just so happened to be kind of in the middle. “Yeah, show’s great. I’m really happy with how it’s going, and the reviews we’ve gotten. Been sold out every night.” He was somewhat bragging, but mostly in a humble way. Hopefully. “Yeah, I’m sure you are. Hey...I jus’, I know this might be kind of awkward, you and I, and trying to be friends in the midst of everythin’, but I do really want you to know despite being with Aaron, I’m here for you too. Anythin’ you need.” His eyes were somewhat pleading, but he meant what he was saying. Every bit of it. He hoped she believed that as well.

Alison.

Alison couldn’t get her emotions in check lately. She knew that she was hormonal because of the pregnancy, but arguing with Aaron and Luca wasn’t making anything better. Alison did have a chance to talk it through with Landon a bit, which made her feel better a little, but she really just missed her boyfriend and best friend. It had been a couple days since she spoken to either of them, and it was taking a toll on her. But for now, she was just going to focus on hanging out with Roman and getting to know him better. “Sold our every night? Good for you guys!” She said, smiling brightly in his direction. Then Roman spoke once again, and it struck her that maybe Aaron had told Roman. By the way he said everything, but she just wasn’t too sure. She tilted her head, looking at him, she wasn’t sure what he knew. “Did Aaron tell you something?” She asked.

Roman.

Ro made a face when Alison asked if Aaron had told him something, feeling like maybe he should have been a better actor with this since he did it for a LIVING. Jesus. But, he couldn’t lie to her, now when she asked him point blank. “Yes. He told me everythin’...” Ro started, looking at his friend apologetically, because he had no idea if that was something she was okay with or not. “He’s miserable about the way he treated you, and I’m sorry too on his behalf. It’s happy news. We should be celebrating.”

Alison.

Alison should have assumed that Aaron has told Roman about her pregnancy. He was his boyfriend after all. Alison let out a soft sigh, not an angry one, but just a sigh. When he said he told him everything, she wasn’t sure if that meant everything even after the last couple days. How she had texted Aaron and said the two should have a break from one another. Alison looked over at Roman, “Celebrating is the last thing I’ve been able to do.” She admitted, shoving her chopsticks into her rice. It wasn’t just Aaron either, Luca had a major role in it. She hadn’t talked to her boyfriend in days either. “I just feel like no one understands how stuck in the middle I am.” July 30, 2020

Roman.

Ro knew that Alison was having a tough time with this, and for good reason. He simply nodded, digging into his own food as well, so she wouldn’t be alone. Roman just hoped he could have this conversation with her, and make it light, not ruin her appetite. “Yeah, I get that. If there’s any way I can help, I want to. I...know we’re not close, but I still want to be here for you. I know I’m dating Aaron, but I know the way he handled this was wrong. We talked a lot about it, and I think he understands that now. He loves you so much, and really just wants you to be happy. So do I.”

Alison.

Alison and Roman were an odd pair. When the two had met at the park, Alison never expected Roman to become Aaron’s boyfriend and that she would be having this conversation with him over a container of rice. “Thanks, Roman.” It was nice he wanted to be there for her, she needed a few people in her corner right now. As the two people who should have been in her corner, she wasn’t currently speaking too. “I want to be happy too. And this should be a happy time. I have a new album coming out, and a I’m expecting a baby. I should be over the moon right now, but I’m not currently talking to Aaron or Luca, it’s really hard to be excited about the good parts of life.”

Roman.

Ro’s mouth turned down at the corners when Alison admitted this should be a happy time for her, and it wasn’t. No one should have to feel that way, especially not her. Alison was so sweet, and talented. She’d been wanting another child, and now she couldn’t even enjoy it. “Hey. I can’t speak for Luca, but I know Aaron loves you so much, and feels like the biggest ass about the way he acted. He understands how you feel now, and we both jus’ want to be a support for you to lean on. I promise you. It’s all gonna be okay, and you’ll be able to really enjoy things once it all mellows out.”

Alison.

It should have been a happy time for the blonde. She had been wanting to expand her family, to give Des a little brother or sister, and now she was doing just that. But the news of baby Regio, had changed everything she thought she knew in a matter of days. Alison knew Aaron loved her, and she loved him. He had been her family for so long and nothing — not even a new baby — could change that family bond the two had. “I know. I just wish Aaron and Luca could get along. And I’m not expecting them to be the best of friends-but I just want them to be civil. And if not for me—for the kids. Everything is going to be different now, and I need both of them.” She admitted, her eyes looking into her rice. “Is Aaron doing okay?” She hadn’t talked to him in person since Sunday. She had sent him the text about taking a break on Tuesday, and she just wanted to know that he was okay.

Roman.

Ro just nodded while Ali spoke, tilting his head when she asked about Aaron, because he knew she was genuinely curious, and cared about how he was doing despite them not talking. “He misses you.” Roman answered honestly, picking at his own rice as he thought back to the many conversations he’d had with Aaron about this. “He regrets how he acted, and wants to make it right. He loves you so much, and wants to make things better with Luca as well.”

Alison.

Not talking to Aaron broke her heart. When she had texted him that they should take a break from one another, she had sat staring at the message on her screen for a solid five minutes before sending it. Aaron had been her best friend, her rock, and her family through all major life events over the last six years. From being on Rich Kids, to having their daughter, to her career taking off, Aaron had been there every step of the way. And even though it. had just been a few days, Alison missed him. She smiled sadly at Roman, "I miss him too." She said, placing her rice down on the table, and returning her gaze to Roman. "I love them both so much. I want them both to be happy. But, I feel like making them both happy is impossible." She felt tears coming to her eyes, god she hated being so emotional, but she could blame that on the pregnancy. "Aaron's my family. Him and Des, that has been my family unit for so long, and it's really hard to accept other people into it. I get it, I had a hard time letting you into it. I get that Aaron isn't having an easy time," She said, the tears spilling over her eyes, "But, I just, I'm having a baby. I need to not be in the middle of all the stress right now, between him and Luca. I want my baby to be healthy, and being stressed out isn't good for him or her." She said, wiping her tears from her eyes, "I'm sorry. You didn't invite me over to hear about all this."

Roman.

Roman listened intently to Alison vent, because he didn’t blame her for feeling this way, which is why he’d been to bat for her from the first news of her pregnancy. This wasn’t about anyone else, it was about Ali, and the baby she was going to have. This wasn’t a discussion, or something to consider anymore. It was happening, and all the other shit, and drama, needed to go on the back burner. “Actually Ali, I did. Sometimes you jus’ need to get shit out, and I know you’re going through a lot right now. Aaron’s miserable about how things went down, and I know you two can work through this, and come out even stronger. Everythin’ you’ve been through, it’s just made you stronger, right?”

Alison.

She knew everything that Roman was saying was true. There has never been a fight that her and Aaron couldn’t overcome. The bond between the two of them was strong, and she truly believed they could make it through this. They had too, they were still parenting their daughter together. “Thank you, Roman.” It has been nice to talk to other people this week that wasn’t Aaron or Luca. She reached back out for the rice on the table, “We’ve always come out stronger. I’m just scared—what if me asking him to take a break—what if that ruins us?”

Roman.

Ro shook his head when Ali expressed her concern, because even though he could understand her worries, he knew better. “Aaron’s the one afraid that you’ll want things to change. He’s ready to go back to the way things were, or at least the good bits. He’s waiting for you to say you’re ready, and then he’ll be fine.” He assured the blonde, smirking as he reached out to place his hand over hers. “No one could ruin what you guys have.”

Alison.

Deep down, Alison knew that Roman was right. There was nothing that could break the bond between her and Aaron, it had been there for so long, and it had always been so strong. "I don't want things to change, not between us." She mentioned. There was no doubt that things were going to change, especially with a baby on the way, there was no way to stop that. But, she could stop things from changing too much between her and Aaron. She glanced at Roman when he placed his hand over hers. "Thank you, Roman." Right then, she knew Aaron had picked the right person to join their family unit. She had been so nervous when Roman & Aaron got serious, as to how it would change them, but really - Roman just made their family unit stronger.

so i really don’t want to make this post but at this point im so tired of the bullshit and double standards in this fandom and how this fandom treats ziam vs ot3 that i really don’t care honestly.

lets address the liam vs louis situation first, i understand not being happy about your fave not being able to release music and not getting enough promo but if yall would get your head out of your ass and actually pay attention zayn hasn’t released an album since 2016 and liam hasn’t even put an album out it was just an EP which is totally different from an album. also it seems like the boys all have different labels so none of their careers are going to do the exact same thing. what i do NOT understand is the hate that seems to be once again targeting only liam like i feel like some of yall are really out here thinking liam has a fucking gun pointed at louis saying he can’t put any music out and has to be a judge on x factor. why are yall pointing fingers at liam ALL THE TIME for shit that your faves do? why is liam automatically the “less” deserving of all the boys? when liam has been working his ass off way longer than any of them but that’s besides the point im trying to make right now. who are yall to think liam doesn’t deserve success but louis does? this is coming from people who only focus on mostly louis and harry so im not surprised because solo harry/louis stans are nasty towards zayn but especially liam.

if yall would actually pay more attention to your faves career and stop blaming someone for them not getting success then maybe it’s the fandoms fault???? like im just stating facts but liam and zayn are both successful right now and STILL have songs on the charts because of the ziam fandom if we are being real right now....because zayn’s team would rather focus on zigi and fashion zayn than his actual music so his fans are really trying to do promo for him and that’s why you still hear his music. now liam is a little different because it does seem like his team is trying to do some promo for his music but still liam stans/ziam stans are the only ones doing lots of promo for his music because i hardly see any harry or louis stans reblogging posts to listen and stream zayn and liams songs and its sad.

It’s gonna be very interesting which way Louis will be going with to promote LT2. I wasn’t around when Walls came out but I know about the hidden coordinates around the planet to promote two of us, many of them Larry related (wasn’t on of them next to a paternity clinic or am I confusing things??). Not to speak of the Spotify covers hahaha. It’s wild how much they play with it while officially going with the narrative of „we hate larries and it destroyed our friendship“. It’s so hilarious, I don’t even know what to say like honestly what’s wrong with them?? Louis said most songs on the album are about his girlfriend and then went on with his coordinates. The audacity.

I’m very excited for the theme of his new album(at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if it would go with Harry’s home theme in some way lmao.). They already went off the rails this year with so many things so i actually expect nothing less. But I don’t know if I really like it that much. It feels weird. Im pretty sure Louis is gonna do some very unhinged stuff when album promo starts. Remember the day he leaked a part of Always you and then started tweeting about it.…yeah..he walked right into that.

Louis starts acting very strangely when he needs to promote something. Tbh, I don’t like it either. It feels weird and dubious to me, too.

dancing with our hands tied “i loved you in secret” is the first lyric of this song! and this song is a kara danvers song. another reference to the bedroom and home being a “sacred oasis” because taylor is consumed with keeping secrets and maintaining some measure of control in the same way that i think kara and lena would be in this situation. this whole song. just read the lyrics. i love the image and sound of the chorus “dancing with our hands tied” which implies like, they’re being hampered metaphorically, but physically the image is like, they can’t touch.

idk if i have unpopular opinions??? bc i just know them as my opinions y'know and im not sure what the 'popular' opinion is on a lot of things but here are some thoughts i have that might get me some haterz on stan twt i guess:

the hybe villian agenda - attributing every decision that changes/impacts svt's status quo to hybe (i.e. gose broadcast time, more american promos etc) seems petty and unnecessary. maybe it's bc i started off in kpop years ago as a bts stan but we as fans dont know shit about their internal company/business agendas, not to mention that these changes are nothing to get worked up over in the big scheme of things ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ now, if svt didnt renew, then it would be another story but they did (thank goodness) so ppl just need to chill lol

aju nice as a song is good but not great - everything about aju nice and its legacy is ICONIC but after hearing the licking/slurping sound sprinkled in the background, i cant unhear it so it’s kinda ruined for me

minghao has the best laugh in svt - idk if this is actually true but i think carats generally vote that dino has the best laugh? or was it vernon..? regardless, minghao’s lil giggles beats ‘em all^^

Honestly, do you see the band coming back in the next couple of years?

Honestly, I don’t know. I don’t doubt they want to come back and that it’s their goal, but for WHEN… It’s hard to tell. One thing Im sure of though, if they have to come back under Simon again, they will never come back, and I’d support that 100%.

Each of their solo careers are doing great things for them. Each of them are showing parts of themselves as artists that we didn’t know about (though I also think they are losing other things). I think, when they come back, that’ll make them be way better, going back to the things that make them 1D but also adding each of their own experiences and knowledge that are gaining with their solo careers.

But for the last month, Simon Cowell has hinted in a couple of arrenged articles that he wants already a One Directon comeback and with all the members, including Zayn, which I don’t think that would ever happen. The only way I could see that happening, if it was a reunion tour a la Spice Girls. But I don’t see Zayn coming back and doing a new 1D album after the way he left.

And I know that probably, those Simon comments and articles talking about that are a way of keeping his name on the media and trying to gain relevance again, taking benefit of the fact that all the guys are a hot topic now on the media (and on the charts), the same way I don’t think it’s a coincidence the moment Louis is the one releasing his new single, Simon is trying to make talk about 1D, using it as another tool of eclipsing Louis’ debut (if Louis’ promo is any indication).

So anon, I really don’t know. At least, they won’t come back until 2019, because Louis has hinted his tour will be on the second half of 2018. I also would expect another Harry album (if the 3 albums in 10 years deal with Columbia is, in fact, that exact way, I’d doubt he’d leave 2 albums to make after the 1D comeback).

So, this got way too long, but in short: as long as Simon is involved with 1D, they won’t come back.

Linkin Park: One More Light

Hey guys, i am back now after some issues with work that resulted in me getting laid off. Unfortunate at best but it’ll give me some time to unwind and figure out how to capitalize on this new opportunity. I figured i would continue with the promo reviews like i said i would at the beginning of the month and intended it to be Rise Against’s new album; but due to the shocking passing of Chester Bennington i’m gonna try and do Linkin Park’s new album. It definitely puts a somber feeling towards this album considering the expected backlash the band got and the outbursts Chester gave in response. Looking at this album; it’s going to be very hard not to picture it as his farewell (suicide) note to anybody that was willing to listen. Let’s get it started and look at this album hopefully the way it was originally intended to be.

Nobody Can Save Me: Yeah, these song titles definitely have a grim to them when you factor Chester’s passing into the equation. Well let’s get this started. This album if you’ve been under a rock lately is a pop rock themed album; with a HEAVY emphasis on the pop side of things (ha like the song references alreadly lol). It begins with some cheerful vocal manipulations and a emotionally mellow synth drum loop. Chester enters with a rather soothing vocal delivery that reflects well on the somber nature of his lyrics. The vocals at first will take awhile to get into but after a few listens; you’ll get what he’s going for. There isn’t really a chorus on this song due to it’s slow churning pace and easy going atmosphere. This album is going to be one that i would suggest looking at as an album that is intended to relax to before bed. Basically look at it as an album that you listen to when you want a break from the complexity of Radiohead and intend for something more basic in flow. The highlight of this piece would probably be the lyrics and the humorous yet cheerful vocal manipulations/synths. As a live piece; im sure it would of been an intimate one to see and as long as it is placed at the right point in a set list i’m sure it would be acceptable by an audience. From what i saw on set lists; they only played like two or three songs max off of the album; so they were probably still working out how to weave it in so that the fans wouldn’t be taken off guard quite as much. Personally i think that they should of did a double album with the first half being something that was logical to follow the Hunting party’s metal sound and then have this as the second disc. Would of been a nice ying and yang concept that fans i’m sure would of taken a lot more smoothly. Picture Foo Fighters’s In Your Honor album as an example. It was a double album with the first disc being your expected rock tracks and the second one was a very risky acoustic album that i doubt wold of gotten much success had it been separate. That’s just my thought on what could of been with this work in order to avoid the shock factor most fans (including myself) had when first listening to it. 8/10

Good Goodbye (featuring Pusha T and Stormzy): This song isn’t a single but i know they had a music video put out in case you guys want to see it done. Chester starts off with a soft vocal melody similar to the start of the past song and then Mike begins to rap to a very pleasant degree. His verses fit in very smoothly with the low energy synths and the lyrics stick out as some of Shinoda’s classic style. Chester delivers the chorus and keeps it very simple as a bridge point between Shinoda and the guest rappers. I don’t know these guys really well but the decision to bring them in was an interesting one since they do a decent job in their role and don’t just have a token five second moment. They actually make a presence during a good second of the song. The first rapper is a lot better in my opinion but the second guy has more of a accent which makes the difference to me. This one continues the nature of the previous song in terms of mood and energy; and seeks to hopefully catch onto the listener’s attention as the album progresses. Not for the Hybrid Theory focused fan but still something that can get good attention from the pop focused audience it is intended for. 7.5/10

Talking to Myself (Single): This one will actually have a dark mark for the band since it’s music video was released a few hours before Chester’s death was announced. More lively key like synths and the actual presence of drums begin this album on a more energetic note than the past songs. Chester continues to utilize the same vocal style of the past two songs but with a little extra force than on them. The lyrics are heavily emphasized due to his casual speed and take a bit before the chorus enters. He definitely exerts more life into this one without losing the relaxing atmosphere than earlier than the album. As far as catchiness goes; it does begin to lack progressively as the song progressively. This one starts off pretty decent but never seems to hit that high point that you are expecting of it. 6/10

Battle Symphony: Vocal effects and a slow drum loop ease it way into the mix before synths take on a rough and dominating tone. it fades off before Chester enters in to deliver some straightforward lyrics. The catchy factor still lacks in terms of melody; but the lyrics will prove interesting to focus on for this track. It’s slowly recited and obtains a similar degree of emphasis like the last song did and will be well geared towards a fan of piano ballad pop music. Adele is probably the easiest comparison i can picture for you; but pop isn’t my strong suit admittedly. 6/10

Invisible: Guitars begin this one with a rather pleasing sense of tension before Mike enters to deliver some very emotionally driven vocals. His lyrics prove to be very strong and will captivate the listener’s attention rather quickly. Honestly the moment Mike starts singing you are hooked since it obtains a more energetic and catchy position than Chester has been able to by this point in the album. His clean style has certainly improved as well over the years and while i hated that he was spending more time on clean vocals than rapping (Living Things); he’s certainly improved with time. Hopefully he decides to keep the group running and even if its just him singing for awhile his mix of rap and clean vocals should have molded him well enough to take the lead till they figure out who is fit to be be Chester’s successor. I know there is no such thing in mind but who knows Blink 182 surprised us lately so this band can do the same thing as well. I would note this as one of the stronger songs on the album and one that deserves to be made a single if the band decides to continue promoting the album. 8/10

Heavy (Single featuring Kiiara):The second half of the album begins with what is easily the most recognized song of the album. It was the first one released to the fans and understandably is what sparked such a strong backlash. I would of went with Good Goodbye first since it was more energetic and not as slow driven as this one. Chester begins singing along with a key melody and tackles a newer and riskier style than before. It is very pop centric vocally and his lyrics manage to do a decent job of providing the focus that this song needs because the spacey synths definitely wouldnt do the job on their own. The guest vocalist makes a rather strong presence on the album and for being new to the scene; she manages to sound like a perfect fit into the pop world. If anything she sounds like she’s been doing it for awhile now and she is only 22 (a year younger than me; i’m getting old ha ha). It’s definitely a simple and quick number that brings forth a good deal of complexity out of its lyrics and takes a big risk for the band. It will test a seasoned fan’s patience; but if you enjoy a little pop then it will be a smooth fit for you. 8/10

Sorry for Now: We start off with some soft synths and drum loops before Shinoda enters with his softer and slower style of clean vocals. It actually proves to be rather catchy and full of emotion just like the last song he was on here. The vocal effects and rough bass drops help to push the song along nicely and provides a bit of an awakening for Shinoda’s clean style. He always like near empty keyboards on his clean songs and they didn’t have what it took to bring out the life in his voice. This pop side actually accentuates it rather perfectly and could be a good format for him if he decides to continue with the pop sound on future albums if there are any. Chester’s solo moment on the song is rather lively and does well to provide this song with a little extra life before it ends. This would be a decent single choice and would be one that i could see standing a better chance of pulling off a smooth live performance. 8/10

Halfway Right: Chester begins with some low vocal melodies and and low synths. His lyrics prove to be rather interesting to ponder over and he manages to make his voice have an elegant sense of blissful beauty when left with just the keys supporting him. The chorus is low energy as you’ve likely come to expect by now but it works well for the flow of the song. It is a simple track but it starts to finally show Chester getting his pop style down smoothly for the album. Better late than never; but it will help ease you into the other songs better as you continue to listen to it with time. 8/10

One More Light: This title track begins with a very emotionally powered synth opening and key segment. It is soothing, soft, and beyond captivating in beauty. Chester enters with a soft and complex vocal tone. His lyrics match the beauty of the song and helps to establish it as a perfect closer if needed for the song. This would actually be a good pick to put as a single for the band to say farewell to him. This one actually is one of the highlights for the song and i really suggest listening to it because it will impact you greatly when you first listen to it. If anything this is what i would picture as his farewell track to his fans and his final goodbye to the world. 9/10

Sharp Edges: This finale song takes on a more pop rock tone and features acoustic guitars and lively drum beats beginning that emphasize a more cheerful and energetic delivery from Chester. Is a very upbeat song in comparison to the climatic nature of the previous song. The lyrics are rather well done and give the song a catchy melody for the listener to follow along to and would of made it a good pick to play live. It’s a quick number that will end the album on a rather pleasant note and help to provide a positive closure to Chester’s musical career. 8.5/10

Overall album rating: 7.7/10

Well a C+ isnt bad at all but it is definitely the lowest album rating for the band on my blog. It bumps Living Things to my second lowest with a ranking of 8.0. This is definitely an album that will be better appreciated do to the passing of Chester and its a shame that it took such a bad event to get this album a fresher outlook. I’m speaking more for myself but i can’t deny they really botched the release for this album due to how abruptly they revealed their new sound; especially since their prior album was heavy metal. There had to be a smooth transition and i honestly a double album approach would of gotten the album a high amount of praise and elevated the band’s creativity. It would of allowed them to then venture into more pop-centric territory with relative ease since the fans would of already seen it coming. That’s the gist of the album and hopefully you guys appreciate this review and decide to give it second chance. I won’t lie and say it will be anywhere near their best work just different and misunderstood. Luckily i still have two albums with Chester on it (Meteora and A Thousand Suns) to get to; so my blog hasn’t closed its doors on Chester just yet. I actually wanted to do A Thousand Suns before this but with Chester’s passing; i felt it was more urgent to promote this album instead. With my abundance of time now; im going to try and pop out a few extra promo reviews for albums that i think could use the extra buzz. In This Moment and Stone Sour are up there on my list and YES Rise Against is as well. Enjoy your day everyone and i shall see you sooner than later.

Papa Roach: Crooked Teeth

Hello everyone! I’ve been taking a bit of a break this month to let some newer stuff come out and soak it in. So far ive been mulling over doing Linkin Park’s new album but since im expecting it to be a mixed bag i’m going to pass over for a new album that actually impressed me. Papa Roach’s latest work is surprisingly well rounded and sees a show of aggression that they havent showed in ages. They claimed to be wanting to bring back their spirit from their infest days and i think they succeeded quite well while still building on the sound of their last album. Hope you guys enjoy this one.

Break the Fall: We start this typically modest length (33 minutes) Papa Roach album off with some dark and gloomy string melodies. Some backing choir vocals joins to signal for a gradual progression of rhythmic guitars similar to their past album Fear. Jacoby enters with very solid rap vocals that are reminiscent of their infest era vocals. The chorus is full of power and the backing choir vocals actually help to make an impact on lifting Jacoby’s voice. The instrumentals also stick out for a change on a Papa Roach album and infuse a nice degree of aggression and subtle electronic flair. The drums do trade back and forth between authentic drums and programmed but it provides for some interesting change ups throughout the song. Not a bad way to start the album off. This one should prove my case somewhat for their combination of Infest era qualities being merged with their newer sound from their past album. That should provide old school fans with some nice moments of euphoria and potentially cause them to love this one even more than FEAR. I know it still had some generic moments lyrically but it was still fresh for them and Gravity’s rapping vocals were amazing. So glad that was a single. 8.5/10

Crooked Teeth (single): This is the first single of the album and surprisingly they put up over half of the album for promotion. Must of gotten some serious label support for this one and hopefully it recaptures a good degree of attention for them.It starts off with some fast and commanding drum beats and the guitars signal for Jacoby to use his shout/rap style vocals to infuse a high degree of anger that would be perfect for a mosh pit. The backing shout vocals are a nice touch since the band doesn’t usually use too many backing vocals that prominently. The guitar solos are pretty sweet due to their speed and technicality and the drums highlight for the first time that i can honestly remember. They are fast heavy and do a stellar job of adding the the energy in the song rather than just being a contributory factor. Keys and synths join with the rhythm section at the end to provide some melodic tension before the chorus arrives to conclude the song with a nice guitar breakdown. This would be a nice live piece and the music video provides a nice dose of chaotic appeal to emphasize that quality at it’s best. Jacoby definitely seems to stick out better lyrically than normal for him and his over the top delivery gives the song and album an ear quality that may very well be their best album since Infest. We shall see how it scores before confirming (haven’t done Infest yet but its coming). 8.5/10

My Medication: This single takes on a bit of a moodier acoustic tone and Jacoby delivers some angst ridden vocals to set the atmosphere. The guitars are rather soothing and provide a nice support to the emotion in the vocals before the drums signal for some more aggressive instrumentals to take over. It then shifts back into a soft guitar/drum melody for Jacoby to begin his rap vocals to. It gradually grows in intensity while still having an overall energy that can provide soothing therapy to a frustrated listener’s ears. The rap lyrics are delivered much stronger due to Jacoby’s choice to return to the singing style that got the band popular in the first place. He still uses his regular verses in the chorus as expected to a successful degree and the instrumentals have a nice solo segment that is interesting to ponder over. It isn’t fast but stil sounds rather pleasing when worked in with the rhythm section of the song. 8.5/10

Born for Greatness (single): Now this is a favorite of mine and begins with some tense tv style horns. Jacoby infuses as much hip hop rap vocals as possible over the band’s style of light dubstep electronica. His vocals are properly lifted by backing choir vocals to give the song a cheerful sense of triumph. The lyrics prove to be rather strong to follow along to and Jacoby’s energetic but balanced rap delivery is perfect for making them stick out to an unsuspecting fan. The rock riffs do a good job of turning this song into a perfect choice for a live performance. I really do hope this one has a music video for it because it would have high potential to be very enjoyable to see. I would note this one as a highlight piece due to its unique surprise and perfect balance. It definitely helps to make this album flow rather smoothly so far. 10/10

American Dreams (single): Cheerful rock riffs that remind me of The Pretty Reckless enter and Jacoby eventually joins with more of his pleasing rap vocals. The instrumentals maintain a support focus with a stromg focus on rhythm and the bass actually sticks out for a moment or two. The lyrics are pretty decent and are rather interesting to follow along to with Jacoby’s quick flowing delivery. The chorus is a bit more mainstream with expected focus towards radio play which isn’t a bad thing for this album; since it still retains a fresh breath of originality. 8/10

Periscope (featuring Skylar Grey) (single): This one starts off with an electronic guitar melody similar to their sound on The Connection. The bass has a rather catchy rhythm and Jacoby tackles more of a deep yet mellow ballad style of vocals. This will cause it to be a slower paced song as expected and Skylar’s vocal section is soothing to the ear but her use of autotune is a bit too obviously overdone to be ignored when compared to Jacoby’s. The lyrics are also alright but are still not as strong as past songs. This one is a hit or miss song but either way it’ll do a fair job of providing extra moments of experimental freshness as the album progresses. 7/10

Help (single): Now this single for me always came off as their generic radio moment. The vocals however start off a bit whiney but still maintain a nice degree of catchiness to them. The bass sticks out prominently in the mix and Jacoby paces himself with the beat of the drum to deliver a potentially generic yet still solid chorus. Vocally it’s one of those songs i want to criticize lol but overall isn’t that bad as it progresses. It is actually an easygoing song that will be pleasant to sing along to and the oddly amusing music video adds a nice sense of humor to song as a whole without losing sight of the song’s message. As a live song it’s a fair choice for a toss in but not something that i would choose as a headlining encore track. 8/10

Sunrise Trailer Park (featuring Machine Gun Kelly): This one starts off with some car effects and incorporates some rather moody acoustic riffs. The raps make a return and Machine Gun Kelly actually starts this one off with a very catchy vocal presence. The rap duet between these two is very strong and will do a solid job of making sure that the listener grows to like this one. The lyrics prove to be some of the most retrospective ones on the album and are actually very deep in substance. I wouldn’t mind seeing a music video for this one because it would of had a nice story to it and could of been counted as a promo piece for Kelly since he is very prominent in this song. Normally im not a fan of hip hop rappers at all but he fits in well with Jacoby and should be noticed for that. 8.5/10

traumatic: This one begins with some vocal beatboxing and the guitars enter with a roar for Jacoby to shout along to. Jacoby’s delivery changes up a lot between clever soft melodies and aggressive shout vocals. His transitions do a terrific job of ensuring that this song remains fresh and achieves a place as a rather strong choice for a potential live song. Overall it’s a pretty straightforward one once you get through the first half so i won’t go too in depth on it other than that it remains strong enough for a live performance as well as a caffeine driven car ride. 8.5

None of the Above (single): This finale track is another of my personal favorites and begins with some soft guitar melodies before electronic drums and synths signal for a near rap style of vocals to warm us before Jacoby shouts and signals for some aggressively powerful jams from the riffs; where Jacoby brings forth elements of his Infest era rap shouts. The elecronica then enters to slow everything down to a interesting and surprisingly smooth extent before the jam segment returns. Jacoby gradually grows stronger and stronger in his drive as the song progresses and provides another dose of experimental freshness for the band as they conclude what is quite possible one of their strongest albums to date. I orginally thought FEAR would take that role but this is a nice follow up to it and even overshadows that album a bit. 9/10

Overall album rating: 8.5/10

Well, it did beat The Connection as my highest rate Papa Roach album by a margin of .2 I’m actually surprised that The connection was the highest but it was still nice seeing this album that the slot now. It’s a really good album for them that helps to balance out their more generic work and was a real surprise for me when i heard them. Seether also surprised me this year with their new album because even that one is rather solid for them. I would suggest getting the deluxe edition of this album because the three bonus tracks are pretty smooth and Ricochet should of actually been on the regular version as a closure.
