The Sonadow to Sonilver pipeline is so real to me and because Sonilver is much less popular I have this intense craving to produce content for it because those hedgehogs deserve it!!

Like, they literally love each other beyond the barrier of time and the uncertainty of when their last meeting will be always hanging over their heads whenever Silver goes back to his future.

But besides the angst their dynamic just means so much to me. Sonic's off the walls energy and Silver's patience with it. How Silver might not be able to keep up all the time and so Sonic slows for just a smidge for him because he cares about him. Sonic saying a quip to Silver and Silver just responding so matter of factly because he has a hard time grasping social ques and it's not even awkward because that's just how they are.

Silver always listening to Sonic as he jumps from topic to topic and Sonic in turn being able to listen when Silver talks about his garden for the 1000th time.

Idk I have many thoughts about them as you can tell haha. Sonilver just makes my heart so warm in such a special way.

a little ramble about dreblr, meta, and the ever evolving nature of this fandom, i guess?

i don't mean to soapbox, this is mostly just going to be vomiting some thoughts into a post. some recent stuff and a post or two have had me thinking about this fandom and how different it is from when dsmp was ongoing. it's,, pretty obvious that the fandom is quite a bit smaller and less active than that time, and there are generally a lot fewer people actively posting meta and such every day--which isn't necessarily a bad thing, and is natural obviously considering that the dsmp ended almost 2 years ago, but does mean that the culture around (?) meta and such has shifted, as well. it's one of those things too i think that is felt so much more obviously in dreblr, which is an even smaller group within this fandom that formed in response to uhhh being very much considered unwelcome by the greater fandom at the time.

that being said, as is the nature of all fandom, dreblr is still a community of people who are largely strangers who have gathered together because of one commonality: very strong feelings and often very strong opinions on the dream smp and c!dream. and i think when the fandom was more active, the entire fandom felt a lot more like a "pvp enabled" zone, lmao -- it was every other day when there'd be some new batshit meta about c!dream or some stream to react to and analyze and fight people about and whatever. since then, though, with the dsmp gone, the fandom has become quieter -- which i think has allowed some of the variation in opinions within dreblr become more and more obvious? and also become a sort of source of friction.

again, this is normal for any fandom. i'm certainly not here to agree with everyone about c!dream always, lmao. but the vagueing of takes is always more awkward on both sides when it's someone where you share more of the same circles. at the end of the day, it's up to each individual blogger's discretion to choose what they will or won't post on their own blog, but at the same time ... when it comes to the community, just speaking for myself, i don't want a super high barrier of entry when it comes to people feeling like they can't join this fandom unless they've got [xyz] experience or [xyz] takes.

when it comes to actual analysis of the source material, though, keeping meta a safe place for people to say "no, i don't agree with this take because of [xyz]" is important as well, which always raises the question of how said disagreements should be handled. and again, i'm no authority, i'm not here to tell people what to do. personally, when it comes to my own blog, i don't like to post very much directly about any one blogger, but I know I've definitely written posts inspired by specific takes before as well as screenshots of takes from the fandom's heyday, etc. i don't necessarily feel uncomfortable with this ...? but at the same time, i know that vagueposts can be a source of discomfort, especially if they're about your take in particular (speaking from experience) -- so it's you know. not the easiest line to draw, I guess, especially when we're talking about a community where different people are going to have different levels of comfort with what they post on their own blogs and what other blogs do in response to their takes. and whatever.

vagueposting, i think, has been common in the tumblr dsmp fandom for a long time, and especially in dreblr -- direct engagement in the past errr usually went badly, so a habit formed of keeping everything we did kind of within our own spaces (hence why many of us don't even tag c!dream or even dreblr on most of our posts; keeping everything untagged, or keeping the tagging system restricted to our own blogs, limited the possibility of trouble). that being said, vagueing within dreblr has become more common, i think, as disagreements within dreblr have become more and more obvious in the time since the dsmp ended. (just for the obvious example: i think it's a bit of an open secret that i, personally, strongly disagree with much of the common depictions of c!drunz in this fandom. i've written some meta about this before, as well as some responses to meta--which i enjoyed greatly, believe me--but i've also noticed (perhaps coincidence) an uptick in c!drunz positive meta every time i or someone else makes a post that maybe skews more negative. which is normal, don't get me wrong, but also a pattern i've noticed. i'm also very aware that someone the arguments i may bring up as counterarguments or structure my posts around arguing against are based on actual arguments i've seen while in this space, which i'm aware is an easy source of friction within dreblr.) and it's easy to say "don't take it personally when it's just metaanalysis," but that's easier said than done, lmao, especially depending on the tone of the vaguepost and a myriad of other factors.

i'm not saying that i have the answers. or, for that matter, a single answer. the boundaries i set aren't going to be the same as the boundaries other people set, for one, and i have no desire to police what other people do on their own blogs. i do miss, sometimes, the more collaborative and discussion-based meta experience of this fandom when it was more active--i might try to more actively reblog posts (including those i don't necessarily agree with) to discuss this server and these characters, bc at the end of the day that is kind of why we're here. personally, i've always drawn a pretty sharp distinction between fanwork and analysis -- i think it's pretty bad form to criticize people's AUs In General (not that i've not. been guilty of it in the past, but i try at least to keep it to criticizing more general patterns within fanwork; look, i'm not going to claim a moral high ground, i love bitching way too much and should probably get a handle on that but asj;lkfdsaf) but when we're talking meta about the source material, barring shit like. you know, harassment and otherwise abusive behavior, i do consider it more of a free-for-all. at the same time, i know that these standards can lead to newer fans feeling like they're going to be booed out the door for sharing their thoughts, which, i mean, isn't great 😭😭😭 fresh eyes can bring a lot of really cool new insights, and it'd suck pretty damn bad to miss that because they don't feel welcome, yknow?

anyway, this is a very inconclusive post, but i thought i'd just throw some of my thoughts out as someone who has been here for a decently long time. and if you want to discuss w/ me, inbox and dms are always open :)

i try my best but i have a difficult relationship with my writing so i often block out that i wrote a fic at all after some time and it hinders my ability to acknowledge commenters directly ;__; and then i always feel awkward responding like 6 months late to someone so i just let it go even though i know no one actually minds... i really do appreciate every comment i get though and deeply cherish everyone's kind words and generosity!!!

i don't really write angsty endings tbh i just write vaguely bittersweet ambiguous stuff... perhaps sharl character study i wrote for a friend's birthday would be up there because the whole thing is just inelegant whump LOL

for my own birthday a couple of years ago i wrote an extremely self-indulgent k-pop fic with all of my favorite tropes and also coded elaborate interactive html/css elements with multimedia messages and notifications you could tap on and the whole thing was just sweet secret relationship toothrutting fluff 💗 anyway extremely cringe but i enjoyed myself and thought it was mostly cute

yes ! i wrote a bnha au for a k-pop ship with my friend once lol she wrote most of it and i kind of just contributed a scene and the concept but it was still really fun, she's a much better writer than i could ever hope to be... also helped friend finish a fic for a fest once because it was overdue and she tapped out so i was up until 6am filling in scenes randomly for her. oh to be 18 again <3

poor/stiff dialogue, horrible romantic development, inconsistent scene lengths, completely flat plot, no concept of good writing practices in general, a horrible tendency to purple prose, inability to write any actual conflict, i could go on

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

ehmmm i had a lot of strong opinions on this in k-pop fandom LOL and then it was funny to see the same thing happening in f1 but just with different languages (so much random french/german dialogue...) but i think there are untranslatable or commonly recognized words that can be sprinkled in verbatim, like in k-pop it makes sense to use certain honorifics that don't have english equivalents but i draw the line at not translating existing terms like "mom" lol... but i have a lot of thoughts on how languages are communicated in fic in general (perhaps too many), like i also overthink how to communicate grammatical structure - so if i'm writing a french character speaking french but presenting the dialogue in english or same with korean in k-pop fic i usually try to make it flow in a way that is as grammatically reasonable as possible, which goes beyond simple semantics but into the actual logic of syntax + verb order... ok i'll stop actually

The sun was baking, shining down from high overhead as it roasted the car from outside in. Addison was unreasonably hot, her arm that had been resting on the car door feeling more like a rotisserie chicken than a limb at this point but she still counted her blessings. At least Nevada was arid and not swampy like Memphis. No, her arm may be burnt to a crisp from sitting in an hours’ worth of traffic but it beat waking up in the night in a pool of your own sweat or chasing a small whirring fan to get an ounce of relief from the breeze it offered. Jess didn’t seem phased, a native Nevadan at just eight years old and well more equipped to deal with the scorching heat as she sat in the passenger seat reading quietly to herself.

She didn’t even look up as they pulled into the drive, only glancing up as the car rolled to  stop. Addison smiled at her and gestured for her to get out, grabbing the bags that lay between them on the seat as she climbed out herself.

‘Oh hey Patsy,’ Addison called as she noted her neighbour hurrying out to her own car looking frazzled though apparently not due to the heat. She had a fist full of balloons in one hand, a rainbow of colours that dragged behind her as she rushed forward stuffing them into the car which was already crammed full of stuff, the gift bags in her other hand joining them not a moment later.

‘Oh hi Addison,’ Patsy replied, looking startled to hear her name called.

‘That’s a lot of balloons,’ Addison chuckled.

‘Yeah,’ Patsy replied awkwardly, shoving the trunk closed as she meandered to her driver side door. Addison felt the tension, the awkwardness as Patsy tried to scurry away but she didn’t back down from it, a curiosity bubbling in her as she said, ‘y’all having a party?’

‘It’s my birthday,’ came a small voice, Lydia, Patsy’s daughter answering on her mother’s behalf. Apparently sensing an awkward undercurrent was a gift she hadn’t yet been given on her special day.

‘It is?’ Addison smiled tightly, ‘happy birthday.’

‘Thanks! We’re having a party in the park,’ Lydia beamed, exuding the happiness only a freshly turned nine-year-old could. Addison kept her smile present even as Patsy gestured for Lydia to get in the car, offering an awkward, ‘well we better get going.’

‘Right,’ Addison nodded.

‘See you later,’ Lydia called as her mother pushed the passenger door open and yanked her through it.

Addison watched as they pulled out of their drive, practically screeching along the asphalt as they flew down the road and out of sight. It was odd but she tried not to let it bother her though as she turned around she found Jess watching her, her happy and contented smile that had been present as she read all through their journey now faded, a subdued look on her face. The look of a child who hadn’t been invited to a party.

‘C’mon,’ Addison said with a jovial smile, ‘let’s get these bags inside before our ice cream melts.’

Jess nodded glumly and followed her mother into the house, taking a seat on the back porch to read whilst Addison unloaded their bags of groceries, her mind whirring about what had happened. They’d been in the neighbourhood a little under a year and thus far it had been a good move for the pair of them. They’d previously rented pokey apartments and tiny homes which meant buying something by herself with her own money felt like a big step. Of course she still had help from Marci who was a semi-permanent lodger only opting to move out whenever she fell head over heels for someone new, but it still felt this house was hers alone. This wasn’t two kids navigating the world with a baby. This was her home, hers and Jess’. And it had been good for Jess too. She’d had to change schools but the one she was in now was better and she’d made a good few friends. Friends that had included the slightly older girl next door or so Addison had thought so.

So why wasn’t her daughter invited to her birthday party? 'Maybe it's family only,' she thought, that would make sense why they hadn't been told to come along. Or maybe Patsy had meant to invite Jess but had decided to forgo the formal invitation given they lived right next door. After all, it was far more convenient to tell someone they were invited over a garden fence than to handwrite and post a formal invitation. Yeah, that was probably it.

Once all the groceries were away Addison made her way outside. Jess was sitting cross legged on the edge of the porch, her book resting in her lap as she read just out of reach of the sunlight. Addison smiled, maybe the fact Jess was so good at remaining cool was that she had enough sense not to sit directly in the glare. That was her Jess, sensible and smart just like her mom.

‘How’s the book?’ Addison asked, taking a seat next to her on the stoop.

‘Good,’ Jess said quietly.

‘You look like you’re enjoying yourself,’ Addison said though she wasn’t sure who she was trying to convince.

‘I guess,’ Jess said glumly. Addison frowned. See the thing was as much like Addison as she was Jess also had streaks of her father peppered through her. Even as she had grown, her long brown locks and facial features starting to bear a motherly resemblance she was still very much her father’s daughter. She could see it now, the idea of the party whizzing around inside her head, worrying. Whilst Addison could convince herself of reasons for being left out or tell herself she didn’t care anyway Jess would fret, worry it was her fault, something she had done. Like he would.

‘Are you sad about the party?’ Addison asked, causing bright blue eyes to look after her before they dropped back down to her book as she muttered, ‘no. I’m good.’

That was also a fatherly trait. Trying to protect Addison no matter how small of a gesture it was. But that wasn’t Jess’ job. Addison had spent a long time without anyone protecting her feelings let alone an eight-year-old girl.

‘You know it’s probably just family at this thing,’ Addison said breezily, ‘catering for dozens of kids can get expensive. Patsy was probably just keeping it low key.’

‘It’s not,’ Jess said sadly, picking at the dog-eared corner of her book, ‘everyone in the class got invited. Except me.’

‘What?’ Addison gawped, wondering just how long Jess had been keeping this revelation to herself.

‘Yeah she gave the invites out on Monday,’ Jess admitted, finally looking up at her mother.

‘Well they must’ve just forgotten what with us living just next door,’ Addison reasoned.

‘I don’t think so Mom,’ Jess mumbled.

‘Of course they did. I mean they’re not just gonna leave you out. Patsy probably told me when I was frazzled from a shift,’ Addison said, anger bubbling inside her pushing out all rational thought as she stood up and said, ‘come on we’ll head down there and see.’

‘Mom I don’t think,’ Jess started but Addison was too irate to be stopped.

‘Jessie they’re not gonna leave you out,’ she said firmly looking at the unsure eight-year-old in front of her with her most reassuring smile. Knowing there was no point arguing Jess sighed and nodded, standing up from where she’d been sitting ready to head for a party.

Given it was Saturday afternoon the park was buzzing when they got there. Whilst there were families all over the place there was a space in the corner commandeered by a large group of people. Some children ran back and forth, using the grassy knoll as a place to play football or tag whilst others took to the swings, slides and climbing frames of the play area. Grownups kept an occasional eye on their offspring but mostly stayed congregated in one area next to tables littered with food and drink as well as the barbecue grill where Patsy’s husband Greg was cooking away causing the smell of hotdogs and burgers to waft through the air.

After gesturing for Jess to go and play with her friends Addison made a beeline for the party goers only stopping once she was on the fringes and several people had looked her way, muttering to Patsy until she turned around, surprise dancing across her hard features.

‘Addison!’ she said surprised as she jogged towards her, ‘what are you doing here?’

‘Well I figured you’d forget to invite Jess to the party,’ Addison said casually, ‘so I thought I’d bring her along.’

‘Oh,’ Patsy said awkwardly.

‘Unless I was wrong?’ Addison questioned.

‘Addison,’ Patsy mumbled.

‘Because that would be ridiculous right?’ Addison challenged, ‘what with Lydia and Jess being such good friends, playing together every day, living right next door. You wouldn’t single her out to be the only one not invited, right?’

‘What’s going on?’ Greg asked, appearing at his wife’s shoulder, tongs still in hand, after hearing the murmurs of the onlooking crowd.

‘Your wife was just explaining why my daughter wasn’t invited to her friend's birthday party,’ Addison said hotly as she crossed her arms across her chest.

‘Addison,’ Patsy said, trying to keep her voice sweet and calming, ‘it’s not that we don’t like Jess. It’s just that…’

‘That?’ Addison pressed.

‘We have friends here,’ Greg finished firmly, a disapproving look on his face, ‘family.’

‘And?’ Addison asked unsure what the hell that meant.

‘And well, well what if you showed up with that girl…the one you live with,’ Patsy said in hushed tones.

‘Marci?’ Addison baulked.

‘Whatever her name is,’ Greg muttered, his thick neck turning a distinctly darker shade of red that wasn’t from his already deep sunburn. Addison laughed causing it to go darker still.

Since they had moved in Marci had been in and out and of course she wasn’t surprised people had talked. It had happened everywhere they went, whispers about the two women and their baby. If it hadn't been worries about them being ‘those types’ it had been disgust at her for being a mother at such a young age or the absence of Jess’ father. She’d become accustomed to it and given how they were okay with Jess and Lydia being friends from the off she was shocked to find their views so far down the line.

‘You think me and Marci are,’ she said, unable to keep the laugh out of her voice, ‘we’re best friends.’

‘Well even so,’ Patsy said quietly, ‘your living situation it’s not very…respectable.’

‘Is that right?’ Addison laughed, unable to believe her ears. She’d gotten used to the judgements so much so they never really bothered her what people thought anymore. She’d accepted the way her life had panned out and as long as Jess was happy that made her happy. But for them to insinuate there was something wrong with the way she was bringing up Jess made her blood boil. So what if their life was a little unorthodox? Jess had a roof over her head and food in her belly. She had a mom that loved her beyond everything and an aunt who’d walk over hot coals for her. She was loved and that was all that she needed. 

‘Jess is a lovely girl,’ Patsy said.

‘But a child should have a father in her life,’ Greg finished.

And that was it. Any hope Addison had at holding gone with the mention of one little word. Because who was he to judge? He didn’t know them. He knew nothing about their life and what they’d been through. He didn’t know how fortunate he was to be able to stay in his children’s lives so much so that he took it for granted, barely touching the fringes as he allowed Patsy to do everything. They may have thought they’d learned all about her in the past year but they’d barely scratched her surface and yet she had them pegged.

‘One like you, you mean?’ Addison said scathingly, making the pair shift uneasily, ‘one who slinks off to a bar every night to avoid his family? A father who watches his poor wife raise four kids without bothering to lift a finger himself. A father who despite preaching good morals and ethics has no issue with finding an excuse to be on the other side of the fence so he can leer at Marci sunbathing in our garden. A father like that?’

‘Now hang on a minute,’ Greg started.

‘Addison,’ Patsy said, shocked.

‘You know what? I’m glad Jess isn’t invited. If the company you keep is anything like you I don’t want her anywhere near people like that,’ Addison spat.

And with that she strutted off down towards the play area. Yet Jess wasn’t there, she was sitting under a tree nearby, her book in her lap though it remained unopened. She’d been watching her mother closely and more importantly listening. Addison tried to ignore the hurt in her heart at the sight.

‘Hey baby,’ she said as Jess stood up, dusting the dirt from her jeans.

‘Hi Mom,’ she said.

‘You wanna stay?’ Addison asked. Jess shook her head, Addison nodded and gestured for her to come over to her which she did, tucking herself into Adddison’s side as her arm went around her, stroking her hair gently, ‘how about we go for ice cream?’

‘I thought you said we had ice cream at home,’ Jess said, those bright blue eyes finding hers as she looked up.

‘Eh, it’s hot,’ Addison lied, ‘I could go for a cone.’

‘Me too,’ Jess agreed.

Given the busyness of the ice cream parlour they decided not to bother sitting inside and took their cones to the car, cranking the radio so that it played soft rock as they tried to keep up with their ice cream as it wilted in the warm weather. Jess stayed quiet and Addison let her, knowing whatever worries would soon come out whether now or later at night when she was no longer able to push them away.

They came just as Addison had finished up, wiping her hands on a wet wipe before she chucked it in the back of her car.

‘Mama?’ Jess asked, bringing a new wave of angst over Addison. She never called her that anymore, quickly opting for Mom the moment she reached kindergarten. Addison had known it was a natural progression but it had also felt like ditching their roots, the inherited southern twang she'd once had now faded. Addison couldn’t blame her given her own accent was virtually nonexistent these days apart from the occasional word.

‘Yeah sweetie,’ Addison said, readying herself.

‘Can I ask you something?’ Jess asked.

‘Sure,’ Addison said.

‘Why don’t I have a Dad?’ Jess asked, taking Addison completely off guard. If she was still eating her ice cream she was sure she would’ve inhaled it down to the cone. 'Why wasn't I invited,' she was prepared for. She was prepared to give her the 'their judgments say more about them than us' speech, one she had used a million times before. What she hadn't been expecting was the dad question. She’d asked before when she was younger of course but it had been easier to navigate then. She was more malleable, less questioning. Now she was watching her mother inquisitively awaiting an answer.

‘What?’ Addison asked, hoping it would give her a chance to think.

‘Everyone else does,’ Jess said, ‘why don’t I?’

‘It's not that you don’t,’ Addison said hesitantly, ‘it’s just complicated.’

‘Why?’

‘Well most moms and dads are together and me and him couldn’t be,’ Addison said.

‘Where is he?’ Jess asked.

‘I don’t know,’ Addison said, which wasn’t technically a lie. She didn’t know where he was at this moment. It was quite hard to pin down a global superstar but if pressed she could give it a fair shot.

‘Why not?’ Jess asked.

‘Baby it’s complicated,’ Addison said but that didn’t subdue Jess as she begged, ‘please?’

Addison watched her, that face so like his waiting for her to tell her everything. She had lost all focus in her ice cream now and it was trickling down her hand onto the seat leather so Addison used it as an reason to navigate around the conversation just for a moment, producing another wet wipe so she had an excuse to look at cleaning up as she said, ‘your dad and I met not long before you were born but he had to go away because he was in the army.’

‘Really?’ Jess asked, the figure of a handsome stranger in army green flashing behind her eyes.

‘Nice, kind, handsome,’ Addison admitted.

‘He sounds good,’ Jess said.

‘He was,’ Addison agreed, a lump in her throat.

‘Do you think I might meet him one day?’ Jess asked, finally looking at her mother. Addison forced a smile.

‘Maybe,’ she said as reassuringly as possible, just as she had done earlier though the chances of that were about the same as her getting an invite to Lydia Banks’ next birthday party which is why she felt the need to add the caveat, ‘but sweetheart I don’t think you should get your hopes up. I don’t know where he is or what he’s doing.’

It was a lie but thankfully Jess didn’t push her on it even if her face turned wistful, whatever she was wondering finally spilling out as she asked meekly, ‘do you think he’d like me?’

‘Oh sweetheart,’ Addison said, a new wave of sadness washing over her as she moved to put her arm around Jess. She tucked herself in, putting her back on her mother’s chest so that she could be embraced without condemning her ice cream cone to being smushed, ‘I know he would.  He’d love you so much.’

‘I wish I knew him,’ Jess said quietly.

‘I know…but sometimes things just aren’t meant to be,’ Addison said thickly, ‘sometimes we just can't have the things we want.’

‘But I always have you right?’ Jess said, tilting her head back so that she could see her mother’s face. Addison smiled and nodded.

‘You’ve always got me.’

Ouch, I'm really so out of touch with movies, and these days I'm watching what's very much not popular with people (except for Interstellar. Interstellar is baby). mentor. You might not be the main character, but you're still very important. You're the older, or at least wiser one, who guides all those little youngins to victory. Why do I feel like Oscar is intentionally keeping Lando at a distance because he assumes it would never work out? And Lando kind of wishes Oscar would show an interest but he isn't so Lando pulls back too? Maybe I'm totally crazy but feels like they're doing a double fake out. If not then why not just be friendly the way they are with other guys?

gonna put below a cut and include some other asks that aren't necessarily of interest to everyone and are kind of in the same vein (note the tag)

okay so "why not just be friendly like they are with other guys" is a pretty good thing to focus on bc when you actually break it down, Lando and Oscar define themselves as being pretty shy and they conceal a fair amount their lives and closest friends from the public. and truth is that it seems to take both of them at least a year of knowing someone before they open up - and even longer before they're as friendly as we see them with guys like Logan, Zhou, Carlos or Daniel. Lando lists the guys he's known since as far back as karting as his closest friends. so after just one season together, what we already have in terms of friendliness between Lando and Oscar is pretty damn good!

but honestly we can't say that either of them are really holding back at all when we've got Andrea and Zak constantly emphasizing how in sync they are and then of course how big they both show up for each other's wins/poles etc. whatever we don't get in terms of fun fandom content, we've got them showing each other mutual respect and support and sharing the same priorities. that's... really good imo.

it's what cracks me up abt everyone who went all 'planetf1 angry white dad in oakleys selfie in a truck comment section' over that recent Oscar quote. Lando's literally had everyone saying the same thing to him, directly and on social media ?? did they also decide that Martin Brundle, Natalie Pinkham, Lawrence Barretto and Jenson Button all despise Lando and want to take swipes at him by saying that his public flagellation feels of no use and worse, that it's probably a hindrance to his mindset? did Lando suddenly became loathed by all these people who SEEM to openly like or love him bc they said that ??

or did they expect Oscar to respond to that question with "oh no yeah it's cool that my teammate who I actually like shits all over himself and gives his haters ammo y'know to each their own whatever man" bc that WOULD actually be incredibly cold and hurtful asgajsgfljasf

I know fandom can go way off track and start expecting these men to talk like fan fic but the truth is that they view each other as professionals and fellow drivers first and friends (if they are) second. I won't repeat myself bc I've posted about it enough but none of the grid are a significant part of Lando or Oscar's life outside F1. Lando and Martin did a stopover in Perth (and apparently Martin even had work there?) for one day to ride dirt bikes at Daniel's ranch and Lando went to Carlos' sisters' gigantic state wedding lol. doesn't compare at all compared to Lando's time spent with Max F, the quadrant folks, his family, his Monaco friends and definitely not Martin Garrix. it also doesn't mean that they're not still friends with those guys on the grid - it's just not the same.

so the fact that Lando and Oscar aren't out here dishing out bromancey stuff where fans can see and hear definitely doesn't say that those bromances mean the drivers are actually any closer. Oscar relied on extroverts like Robert and Arthur to give him something to play off and Lando relied on Carlos and Daniel for the same. so when they're left without a gobby extrovert they do that cute thing of giggling and handing back and forth to each other. to me personally it's always kind of sweet ?? that Lando and Oscar do the thing of looking at each other for support to get through the cringey and awkward to camera stuff. sometimes when Lando is really feeling himself Oscar can just kick back and watch him. and as we saw w that helmet design video, even when Oscar isn't filming w Lando he hangs around offers support.

wow apparently I cannot stay on track today anon but idk I just personally think that it's the opposite of a mutual fakeout and they've bonded pretty well over both being shy, both being equally focused on their careers and also needing to switch off sometimes. finding out they spent the night after Lando's crash in Vegas together sharing "commiserations" is like, one in a long list of us hearing that they chose to hang out alone together and not publicize it.

all of us are on the outside of their friendship and as much as that suuuuucks for not getting as much content as we want, it's also really sweet and kind more likely to be genuine and lasting since they consider a lot of that relationship as private <3

and bc for some reason landoscar makes me want to write all of these essays I feel like it's kind of my responsibility to be like yeah, there's even more than just assuming ppl's sexualities and their real life partners stand between two ppl we like to imagine together actually getting together. rpf is heavy on the f and mostly what we're all actually enjoying are friendships. and as someone who is lucky to have them, I personally wouldn't be one of those ppl who said romantic partners and friendships are on some sliding scale of importance. they're just different!

ever since landoscar became a thing, Lily's been in Oscar's life and Lando's been pursued by every man who sees him and burning through baddies on Raya on a literal global scale. it's important to come back from rpf to that fact so we don't end up attraction those legions of people calling real life girlfriends "PR beards" or that Lando's dating app horniness is some front for him meeting up with Carlos or Daniel or whoever lol.

oh I am so not the person to answer abt this since I can't relate to wanting couples to get married or thinking that it's all that significant! I'm a huge romantic and I theoretically enjoy the idea of weddings/marriage but all the ppl I know who've gotten married out of college are already regretting or cheating it so it's put a real damper on it for me.

FIC REC WEEK 14 – AUTHOR WEEK

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: RayShippouUchiha

There are many amazing things about RayShippouUchiha's writing, but what always stands out to me is the way they write people being enamored with Tony. I have a soft spot for female Tony, and Ray writes some of the best fem!Tony fics I've found in this fandom. Some of their fics read like straight up poetry, and they're a master of both the angsty and the fluffy. I have a lot of their fics lined up to rec them in other weeks, so if you don't see your favorites in this list, don't worry, they're probably coming up at some other point this year.

Fearful Symmetry

Pairing: Bucky/Tony Rating: T Words: 5,684 Tags: Shapeshifters, Kidnapping, Team as Family

Summary: He’s obviously in the warehouse district near the docks, probably in one of the abandoned packing plants or something of the like. Honestly at this point this kidnapping couldn’t get more cliché if it actively tried. “Service sucks and the wait staff stole my clothes,” Tony whispers, unable to help himself as he slinks down the hall, “Zero stars, would not come again.”

Reasons why I love it: BAMF Tony getting himself out of tough scrapes will never not be an instant win for me. Couple that with a worried-sick team and pining Bucky who just wants to keep Tony safe, and there's a perfect recipe for Kandi-bait. Also, there's shifters, so, you know, what's not to love? Especially when Tony's true nature is revealed - it fits him so well, and I really love the mental images I got from that scene. I love this fic, and I bet you will too!

Grip. Chamber. Sights.

Pairing: Bucky/fem!Tony Rating: T Words: 14,824 Tags: Longing, Awkward Flirting, Recovery

Summary: He thinks maybe he should be unsettled by the impact she’s had on him. Thinks maybe it should chafe. That maybe it should remind him of HYDRA and having his choices, his will, ripped away from him. It doesn’t. She doesn’t. It, she, the memory of her, feels like choice.

Reasons why I love it: God, Bucky's devotion to Toni in this one is so pure and right. Their first meeting is perfect, and I love how Toni is the one to get Bucky to really reflect on his life and the choices he has. Plus, Bucky's attempts at flirting are both hilarious and adorable. This fic is amazing, and I highly encourage you to read it!

The Beat We Drum

Pairing: Bucky/Tony Rating: T Words: 1,510 Tags: Honeymoon, Trans Tony, Comfort No Hurt

Summary: Tony isn’t sure what he wouldn’t be willing to suffer to have this, to have this sun-drenched morning where he feels safe and whole. To have years stretching out in front of him with the possibility of so many more of these mornings yet to come.

Reasons why I love it: Newlywed Winteriron is just - gah, I love it so much. They're both snarky assholes, and they fit together like the imperfect puzzle pieces that they are. I really love the banter in this one, and the promise of future sexytime is really hot. I hope you give this one a shot, because it's fantastic!

Monday In A Cafe (All You Did Was Look My Way)

Pairing: Bucky/Tony Rating: T Words: 6,301 Tags: Meet-cute, Coffee Shop, Love at First Sight

Summary: Then Gorgeous, as Bucky abruptly names him in his head, slides a bit further down the counter and reaches for his wallet. He pulls out what Bucky’s pretty sure is a crisp hundred and stuffs it into the tip jar Clint decorated to look like a bulls-eye. And then he turns and looks directly at Bucky. Staring into big doe eyes from across the way Bucky resists the urge to bring his hand up to grip at his chest. Because that split second is all it takes. One look and Bucky is officially gone.

Reasons why I love it: They're such idiots in love, I live! Bucky is so cute when he fawns over Tony like a lovesick fool, and the exasperation of everyone around him just makes it even funnier. And the identity porn is hilarious, oblivious Bucky is my favorite. This fic is like a cup of hot chocolate with extra marshmallow fluff, so go ahead and enjoy it!

The Straight Path (Until The End Of My Days)

Pairing: Steve/Tony, Steve/Bucky/Tony Rating: T Words: 5,389 Tags: Fix-it, Angst with a Happy Ending, Murder

Summary: “Buck,” Steve whispers then, voice low like a secret, “I don’t … I don’t think I want to live in a world without him. I don’t think I can.” “Ah hell Stevie,” Bucky laughs, soft and fond and just a bit sad. “I always knew that.”

Reasons why I love it: This is such a beautiful fix-it. Ray does a fantastic job of presenting the original timeline in a way that feels viscerally awful, enough so to make Steve want a do-over. And the things he does - even though they're super dark, holy fuck - actually make sense for his character. I love this fic so much, and I really hope you decide to read it for yourself, because it's amazing!

20 Questions for Fic Writers

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

Exactly 100 currently. I'm working on my 100th fic and am aiming not to post anything more until I've finished that one

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

yikes. yikes. uh, so its 2,351,346 words (2.3 mil). look okay i'm a sucker for long fics okay

3. What fandoms do you write for?

a lot of things. i tend to be a fandom generalist, so i'll bounce around a lot between fandoms and have even (guiltily) written a few fics for fandoms that i havent seen canon of. i tend to think that for any fandom i'm enjoying, there's at least one or two good fics in it I could make if so inclined by numbers though my top fandoms are one piece, then naruto (bc of cross-overs with aforementioned one piece), then LoZ, and then SVSSS.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

duty, given chance bureaucratic processes it's what isn't in the name Vitra te Ikran the thing that remains

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Sometimes, but not super often. Often just if someone leaves a super nice comment that's very touching or if someone has a question. I appreciate all my commenters but I often just end up feeling awkward if I try to respond to them all. If you ever have commented on one of my fics through, I love and appreciate you and I'm kissing you on the mouth

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

At the moment its probably three past the hour, my Katakuri/Sanji work, but when I get round to finishing no one left to tell the secret, my demon AU Shanks/Buggy fic, then it will probably be that one

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Hhhhhhh, maybe the thing that remains? that one gets quite fluffy at the end. a lot of my works have happy endings though, so its hard to say.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Almost never. I get people being weird sometimes, like that one rando commenting on my Zoro/Kisame fic whining about how Zoro shouldn't be gay, but like. eh. eh. Cannot remember a single proper instance of hate or flaming.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Haha man. Lets look at the stats. Yeah, uh, 35 of my 100 fics are rated explicit, and some of these fics are pretty freaky. Look i've done size kink, i've done various flavours of monsterfucking, one of my series with the biggest following is one about a dude falling in love with and getting hot with a sentient suit of armour. I write some weird stuff

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I write some, but sort of only occasionally. For proper crossovers, I only really have my naturo x one piece series and my doom slayer x batman story. I tend to prefer aus, so like i have a hannibal souleaster au and a bleach elden ring au.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of. Lets say no and hope it stays that way

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

My NiF fic with honour was translated into Russian as part of an event a few years back. That's the only one currently though

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not really. Cher and I played around with something a while back but its sort of been on the back burner. I've got a stupid Supernatural fic I'm working on right now that is essentially co-written, just because discord friends are helping me figure out what the fuck happened in canon, since I never watched it 😂

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

This ones hard. There's a lot of fics I want to come back to but there's just not enough hours in the day. I'm overflowing with projects and sometimes I just don't manage to get back to them. I always mean to try go back, so I don't want to write them off. I'm gonna cop out on this one and not answer

16. What are your writing strengths?

World building, maybe? I have degrees in botany and anthropology, and studied ecology and zoology as well while I was at uni. I feel like world building, especially coming up with fun cultural stuff, is something I've learned how to do well, and its something I enjoy a lot. Other than that, idk, I feel like I have strong dialogue as well. It's never been something I struggled with a lot

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Conciseness. Not having run away sentences. I get carried away sometimes with long descriptions for things. Also repetitiveness sometimes. I sometimes catch one paragraph just rewording what I'd been trying to express in the last, which can bloat things. And goddamn though, my inability to keep projects small. I can't remember the last time I managed to finish a project in under 15k. It's a real problem.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

It usually feels clunky, and I don't really do it unless its for a language that doesn't exist. Its too easy to make stupid mistakes if you're trying to write in a language you don't know, which can be annoying for natural speakers, and even if I do know a language and am confident having a character talk in another language still puts the readers in a weird position. Like I feel like its often done to instill a sense of mystery, but like as a reader I mostly just find it tiring to deal with. So yeah, nah. I'll do bits and pieces in made up languages when its useful to help create a sense of cultural depth, but not usually otherwise.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Cringes. Probably Harry Potter. That was sort of the kiddy pool of fandom back in the day and it was definitely where my main writing stayed for a while. I don't think I have a single HP story still up, except maybe VtI, which... yeah is a complicated case

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

It's a tossup between the thing that remains, which even two years after finishing just owns my heart and soul, and one hundred years past, which was my first ever Ganondorf/Link fic. That one was just so much fun to write and is so solid, like I'm still very happy with it, and its a fic I'm always happy to see comments on

aaaaaa chapter 3 of IHM was soooo good!!! Reader and Gojo’s banter is so funny, I just love stories, series and movies where the main characters can’t stand each other and fall in love without even noticing! Their relationship reminds me a lot from the main couple in the movie “Life as we know it”. Omg poor reader when dealing with Choso, the other cop PLUS her neighbors! And the way everyone is so nosy and suspicious, I feel like more awkward situations about their sudden marriage are about to come. These cringe encounters are everything 😂😂😂 The little detail where reader reminds Gojo to strengthen his collar before he leaves was the sweetest, cutest thing! I absolutely love how reader meets part of the family all at once, it was so adorable. And Mama Gojo is amazing, I already love that woman! Does she believe in energy, crystals and all these things? The way she literally hugged reader and declared she would bring luck to their family was soooo sweet!!! This fic is definitely the found family trope!!! And little Juno calling us auntie? My heart just melted right then and there! i relate to reader in the sense that she feels overwhelmed and terrified at the thought of having another family now that she’s married to Gojo. I am close only to my mom, dad and brother, and completely ceased contact with my family from my father’s side of the family. What I mean is, family is difficult, so I’m excited to see how reader will navigate this new chapter of her life, since when you marry someone, it’s like you marry their whole family by association. I hope the rude comments and asks you’ve received straight up demanding smut in all your fics don’t discourage you from continuing writing and posting your lovely stories!!! Unfortunately this always happens, people only care about what they want to see and completely disregard the author’s feeling and efforts. Thank youuu so so so much for writing real stories, with a real build up which only makes the romance between the main characters more genuine and worth in the end! I am absolutely awed by all your writings. I genuinely hope the rudeness you’ve been receiving from the fandom won’t keep you from doing what you love. thank you for your insights on family, that is so true. when you marry someone, you marry their whole family too. and that can be hard to navigate, especially when you’re so used to being around just one person (in reader’s case, her mother) and then suddenly having to acclimate to new people. i’m so glad you can see yourself in her (i’m the same way, only keep in touch w my immediate family and hardly w my aunts/uncles/cousins on both sides for a lotta family drama reasons haha) and i’ve always felt frightened to expand my relations w ppl for that reason, but i think i find that it can be healing too.

Hey, I'm always on the lookout for sfw and non-slash-focused Tolkien blogs because they're unfortunately all too few, so your pinned post really made me hope I found another one - you do say you occasionally reblog explicit fics though, do you tag them?

@marietheran  Thank you for getting in touch. It's always great to connect with a fellow fan that looks like they share your views/way of appreciation regarding a beloved story.

No offense to anyone else on here, but yes, I too find the 'tumblrisation' of Tolkien's works difficult to deal with/interact with. There are some amazing fanworks, but mostly the way the majority on here filter the Legendarium through their modern lenses and shipping goggles (while understandable) is a total turn off to me. I try not to engage mostly as I loathe gatekeeping and fandom-fighting so I try not to neg people the way I wouldn't want to be negged. Which is why I won't tag this post in the main tags this time - too much scope for drama and backlash!

To answer your questions (no harm in asking at all - I too try and be careful who I follow because I'm very sensitive about what I see too), allow me to clarify. It depends what you consider NFSW of course, but generally anything that I see as being a bit risque I tag. Obviously, my views on that and yours may differ. I try to tag everything I post so people can filter regardless of what it is, but I don't always tag a pairing or a fandom if I'm venting because that would be rude and I don't want to get hassle from fans. That point about explicit fanfics on my pinned post was in case I wrote anything myself. In fact, I don't think I've ever posted anything most people on here would consider explicit - I feel quite awkward about that stuff myself! Not to be a prude and each to their own, but I also loathe a lot of the explicit stories and reader fics on here. I wouldn't reblog them I don't think. But yes, anything x-rated I would tag. I also would tag on the rare occasions I might reblog say a femslash pairing or something. You may also wish to filter some of my JJK stuff as some of that could be a polyship/OT3.

Regarding Tolkien, I have adored the Legendarium for 25+ years, ever since I was a child. The Silmarillion is one of my all time favourite books as is LOTR. I tend to return to my perennial hyperfixation yearly, but I do post about a lot of other things - mainly SF/F and nature pictures. Tolkien, as one of my all time loves and a childhood fandom (plus the way it's written and his own views) means I tend to engage with it mainly as it was written. Meaning I don't really like modern interpretations of it, lots of different types of shipping etc in the way I might do of something like say...an anime I just got into. So I think you might align with me on that. The only thing you might not like is the fact that Melkor is my favourite Tolkien character even though I deplore his actions. I find him such a fascinating character in various ways. Also I'm a person of faith too, although not via organised religions...I love the deep metaphysical aspects of the Legendarium, even though I can be a little critical of Eru and the Valar's actions at times. I also love all of Tolkien's ladies, Fingon, Finrod, Feanor (again deplore his actions), Maedhros, Varda, Nienna, Aule, Manwe (sometimes when he isn't playing faves with the Elves), Beleg, Mablung, Gandalf, Celebrimbor, Aegnor (love him and Andreth), Gimli and so on... If canon mentions the characters are family and/or friends I don't ship them and generally get irate when I see this in the fandom (although, you know, sigh, ship and let ship and so on...). The only non-canon ships I have a soft spot for are Melkor x Varda (I do see it as canon unrequited and more in a Timeless Halls/metaphysical way, although I also love Manwe x Varda obviously), Finrod and Andreth (although I love Andreth x Aegnor and love Finrod and her being friends) and Caranthir and Haleth. Also, I'm very much a fan of platonic relationships across fandoms, but especially in Tolkien where they are so beautifully and at times intensely portrayed.

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Always! Oh man alwayyyys. I am so grateful for anyone who takes that extra moment to share something they liked or a thought that popped into their head. Truly. It's a special kind of reader that leaves comments. They really are the fuel that keep me going! Especially on my long fic I feel like I'm getting to know some of my readers and I love the discussions I've gotten into about my blorbo and her interactions with canon characters. OR just canon characters!

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Probably Fractures. I wrote it especially for Whumptober and in it Cullen's obsession with Samson led to a throwdown in Emprise that nearly left him dead and Rose is understandably at her wits end with him. They have 'make up sex' that does nothing to resolve any of the feelings of betrayal and abandonment and anger that Rose feels.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Probably The Commander, the Tevinter, and a Bottle of Lightning a Cullen & Dorian, Cullen POV fic where Cullen's romance with Rose Trevelyan seems to finally be coming to a head at long last.

7. Do you write crossovers?

Not yet! Probably won't though.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

The closest is maybe vocal dislike of an original character. He's a competing love interest though, so I get it. People have their preferences and want to nudge me a certain way.

9. Do you write smut?

LOLLLL yes. 4 of my top 5 above are explicitly smuts and my long fic has 4 at this point. My friend @nirikeehan says "be the smut you wish to see in the world" so I try to write joyful, consensual, authentic feeling smuts that also capture the awkwardness/silliness/normality of sex. My hope is that someone reading it who isn't quite experienced with this stuff gets to see a really positive, realistic portrayal.

A Splinter of Light (my Rose and Dorian get stranded in the future during In Hushed Whispers Nightmare!AU fic)

Believable dialogue and banter, authentically drawn characters readers can root for, lively descriptions

PLOT. It's just always been a struggle for me. World building too. LISTEN. There's a reason I'm writing fan fic LOL. Though I recently got Scapple (from the Scrivener makers) and it has been a game changer! I'm using it for my long fic and my other major WIP Kiss Me Moonstruck right now.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I've done it for a few select lines during Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts, mostly to underscore how bad Hawke is at speaking Orlesian. But generally I will just note when a character is speaking in a new language.

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Dragon Age! I stumbled into it a smidge over a year ago (after playing for 9ish years) and love it so much!

Oh man, barring my long fic which is my baby and still in progress it would probably have to be my new Cullen POV fic Thirst that digs into the lead up to his crisis during the Perseverance quest. But Kiss Me Moonstruck is my Hawke x f!Trevelyan MatchmakingMoms!AU WIP set during DA2, Act 2 and mannnn nothing makes me smile and laugh like this fic. I can't wait to publish it!

I am a smut writer, I write smut.

That is my new main focus for this blog. About who? I don't know. I've written a few Smut Drabbles about unnamed characters anyone can imagine as any character they want. I like the freedom of that.

Sebastian Sallow.

I wrote about him, took screenshots of him, he was my muse and inspiration, and I was slightly obsessed. It's what started my writing spree, and I am very grateful for it! Very explicit smut. I mostly write smutty one-shots or drabbles, sometimes other stuff too. I may write very detailed, but I'm still writing fantasy smut, so extreme realism is a rare thing here! This is fiction and mostly entertainment, after all!

Reader-insert.

I mostly wrote from a reader's perspective (you), but I never use Y/N. I also write third-person narratives, but I also never use the term MC. My protagonists are mostly nameless, gender is specified at the beginning.

Kinks.
