Fuzzynight- who said I love you first?

When Lyra arrived, she was more somber and as reticent about herself than usual. The typical joy she had just wasn’t there. The tall guardian smiled, but even the boys noticed something was wrong.

She had no idea how much it saddened him to see this.

Unable to see her like that any longer, he took her paw after they finished dinner. “Come with me; you need rest.”

“I know, but I do not wish to be alone,” She replied as she looked at the boys.

“I will stay with you. But these four have their chores before they also go to bed,” he answered as he gave her paw a reassuring squeeze.

“awww, you going to cuddle w- ow!” Killer yelped as Dust punched him in the shoulder.

“leave nightmare and lyra alone,” Horror growled.

“fiiiiine,” Killer folded his arms and slumped in his chair. “but, yeah, we’ll be busy. got our team-building stuff to do tonight. so go have alone time, and we’ll let you two be.”

“I surrender, then,” Lyra sighed, then followed Nightmare down the hall as he led her to a quiet room. He had yet to name it, but it had become a room for gathering for talking without the distractions of entertainment. It was not used for formal gatherings— but more for family-like moments.

“If you do not mind, a nice fire would be pleasant,” he said while directing her attention to the fireplace.

Lyra frowned playfully before folding her arms, “You wish to use my magic to gauge my emotional state.”

“I am an empath. Thus I can simply sense your emotions,” He stated, and she placed a paw on his head and wiggled it lightly as one might ruffle another’s hair.

That action caused her paw and paw pads to sink into his goopy corruption and lightly touch the skull beneath. There was a warmth to them… and they were soft though callused. “Oh hush, you know well that I am hiding my emotions from you,” She said.

“Oh, are you now? Keeping secrets from me?” He continued to tease. She stuck her tongue out in response and slid her paw to his face to give a light shove.

Nightmare huffed a laugh while feigning indignation. He batted her hand away, “Come now, do not keep me from seeing. You are cute when annoyed.”

That received a gasp, and she placed both paws on her hips, “Is that so, you little imp?”

“For what reason would I lie? Thus, despite my mischievous nature, I am not an imp, for I speak truths. Something imps rarely do,” He replied with a grin. That grin softened as he became more serious, “But your affect has been flat compared to normal. So, if annoyance brings out the true you, I will do what I can.”

There was a startled look, then a sigh as she accepted she was caught. Tears formed in her eyes as she turned to the fireplace. A rich purple and blue fireball appeared in her paw, emanating a strong influence of integrity and perseverance from within her. The flame moved over to the charred log in the fireplace. With the log lit, Nightmare turned the light off, letting her fire provide what they needed to see.

It also gave him what he needed to know. The flames were flickering, wild, and seemed to be competing with each other for height and space. They were trying to smother each other, weakening the fire all together.

It saddened him, but he said nothing. Instead, he quietly guided her over to the sofa. He sat down and then directed her to sit beside him. “Lie down and get comfy.”

“Nightmare,” she started, but he continued to guide her until say was lying on her side with her head on his lap.

“You are safe here. Relax and close your eyes,” Nightmare said softly.

Lyra rolled to her back and looked up at him before smiling. “I would rather look at you a while longer. If that is alright,” She replied.

The pure notion anyone would want to just look at him was absurd. That horrid corruption was grotesque, and most felt fear as soon as they looked at him. As an empath, he was well aware his appearance alone caused terror and disgust. And yet, there she was, looking up at him. Lyra’s left paw reached up and rested on his cheekbone, under his eye.

“May I call you Nightstar?” She asked; tears started to show in her eyes again.

“Nightstar?” He mused.

“Like the sailors of old using the star to guide them on the sea, you help me find my way when I feel lost…” Tears started to roll down through her fur as she spoke, and he gently used his thumb to brush them away.

“Yes. If that is what I am to you, call me Nightstar,” he said, trying to stay calm even with his face warming up with such flattery. “Now rest…I can tell you are very tired.”

She hummed in reply as he continued to pet the sides of her face with his thumbs. 

Anger, loneliness, fear, sorrow… all competed for the most potent role in how she felt. “I will help you for now… but the cause of this distress needs to be addressed. What I will do is only temporary, so you may rest to better sort this out once you are well rested.”

“I understand, Nightstar,” she replied before closing her eyes.

He started to drain out some excess of each negative emotion. Once they were manageable, Nightmare used his magic to sense the strands of her emotions to untangle them. It took some time to complete, but as he worked, she relaxed until she finally drifted off to sleep.

“Lyra,” he whispered as she slept, “I can never understand why you feel affection for me. I stand by the understanding that was taught to me as a child. I am unlovable. And yet you have taught me love….”

He paused as the words were caught in his proverbial throat. Still, Nightmare had a desire to say them. So, even if it was a struggle, he said what needed to be said, even if she was asleep.

“I love you.”

And he meant it… far more than any words he remembered saying before.

The other set of Vargases came over for a visit and Scriabin picked up Shmee and started talking to Scriabin through him. Very normal, very usual

I downloaded some circle-glasses recolours and hghghh they look so good! Closer every day to his final details! Getting ever closer!

Edgar too! I made him a custom hair with a lighter undercut - I’m mostly happy with it, probably could’ve shifted it a shade closer to his skintone but the texturing was weird no matter what :P And his stripey shirt! I wish Body Shop didn’t have that hands-on-hips pose lol, it looks so much better in-game, but that’s all the better :)

I got some new clothes for Todd as well! As soon as I saw this ‘fit I was like “Oh that’s 100% Todd there he is.” Scriadad hug ♥ So cute

I've been meaning to do some more Homestar Runner art for a while anyways, and with my recent fixation I figured I could combine the two because both properties have a trio of prominent brothers. Of course there are distinct differences between the two families--namely the Brothers Strong looking so wildly different from one another and often being physically if not always emotionally close, whereas the Nailmasters would be completely identical if not for Sheo's added apron and are located at considerable distance from one another especially in Oro's case, but there's enough similarity on an individual level for me to have made it work.

Strong Sad is Sheo here, as he seems to be the most outwardly sensitive and creative of the three Strongs (though tbh they're all creative, Strong Sad just has the highest combo of both skill and sincerity). Strong Bad is Mato because they both seem to be the most enthusiastic about their narrative purpose--Mato is proud to be a Nailmaster and wants to pass that teaching onto a student, while Strong Bad is both a troublemaker and always tries to come off as "bad" in the "cool" sense, a badass if you will, in desire if not in full execution. And of course, Strong Mad is Oro, not because they were both the last ones to get matched, but because they're both outwardly tough while inwardly soft (Oro's reluctant acceptance of the Delicate Flower paralleling with Strong Mad's deep friendship with The Cheat and genuine love for his younger brothers). And something that I didn't realize while working on this that makes this even more fitting: the Godhome fight where Oro and Mato finally come together and, even if only in a dream, make amends and fight side by side as the brothers they are. In one of the earliest HSR toons that is now apparently taken off the site, Marshmallow's Last Stand, the whole plot was Strong Bad and Strong Mad challenging Homestar and Pom Pom to a tag-team fight. :3

little personal vent

i hold grudges for life usually and it's hard for me to let go of what's been done to me even if i've moved on. anyway so i'm thinking on this person i met recently (lasted for about a month and a half lol) who at first was so friendly and nice to me so instantly fell for the friendship lol. i always tell myself i won't write/draw for anybody cause i always get ghosted (has happened 3 times eheheee) but i did anyway... wrote a whole ass thing on their oc and made so many drawings only to be ghosted the month and a half later for a petty ass reason and they wouldn't even have told me if i hadn't gotten angry and pressed them about it.

so idk what to do with the drawings... i will probably delete them. i make a habit of not deleting anything because it's my hard work even if i dislike it, but fuck it man, i don't want that near me. they make me feel bad whenever i skim through the files.

they also did me dirty on so many other things but this is what fucks me up the most. me putting effort and time into something that in the end means nothing. i stopped drawing after that and what got me drawing again was renfield!

these past few weeks have really taken a toll on me but i want to resume drawing as much as i did soon.

and well i did meet some people here who are incredible and lovely and that's all i could wish for honestly!

one of these is not like the others <3 whitacre doesn't do movie soundtracks, because he's largely a choral composer who creates pieces for choir groups to perform. his work is very special to me out of everything else on this list because I've performed a lot of it onstage, and they all hold very special places in my heart because of the memories I have practicing and performing those pieces with my choir that was practically family to me <3 he uses cluster chords in his music a lot, which basically means the notes clash together in a very specific way to create the most gorgeous overtones and atmosphere and it's just oughghghghghghghh <333
