@elaleph liked for a lilia starter for nicky
Lilia had not stayed in one place for too long after her first coven had been decimated by illness (illness that she had predicted). This wasn't by choice largely, with people chasing her out of village after village, town after town for divining things that people didn't much like. The desire to find herself a home had led her out of Italy and across Europe, one way and then the other, to Britain and then across the Atlantic to the American colonies.
In America, she had found witches were just as unwelcome. She heard about the trials in Salem, Massachusetts, and decided to stay well clear of the place. Mostly, Lilia stayed to herself, but even a foreign witch had to eat, which took her to local taverns. There she made the acquaintance of a young boy by the name of Nicholas.

"Woah there!" Thankfully she's able to bend herself back enough to where she avoids making a direct hit with the other. Seems like they were in a hurry.

"What's with the rush?" The kraken questions as she bends herself back into place.

@consultingsister || ❛ you can yell at me later. just let me help you. ❜ (& rivals (to lovers?) sentence starters)
Of course, she had been at the party. She must've spotted him, but this was the last thing he needed. There was nothing he liked less than unknowns out on the field. It usually made for a higher chance of something going wrong, and things had already gone wrong. All he needed was to make it out of the house with Jim's prize without getting caught by Marzano's men.

⚅— Starter for @kizamiawakening —⚅
[PRODUCER] - Post NEO Verse
— ★ ⚄ ★ —
Hanekoma stretched as he looked out over the city from the roof of one of the buildings and watched the people milling about below him. It was a beautiful day and the city was full of beautiful music. He had a lot of work to do that day, painting up some new art and perhaps writing out some reports. Today he wouldn't be spending most of it inside Wildkat, but that was how it usually went anyway. He was finally back into the swing of his regular life, where he was too busy with his angel duties to worry with travel or meeting new people.
But it seemed the day had something else in store for him, as he suddenly became aware of a presence on the roof with him. His eyes cast to the side as he watched the form come out onto the wide space, and he contemplated just jumping off the side and ditching. But there was a turbulence following that form that he was interested in. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to spend a little time today just standing and chatting with someone he perhaps wouldn't normally get the chance to. He turned around and tucked his hand in his pocket, letting his lazy grin pull up along his lips.
Tumblr media
"Hey there," he called, leaning back against the fence around the roof. "Fancy meetin' someone else all the way up here."

۞ @causalitylinked asked: ۞ ۞ [ join ]: [ from modern verse!herja to rindo, BUT REVERSED, so it's rindo who actually finds her sitting all by herself while looking dejected -- ] ۞
A Random Act of Kindness
[ join ]: the receiver has been stood up in a restaurant, and the sender comes over to offer them some company.
☊⋇☊
Sometimes Rindo enjoyed coming out to a nice restaurant to have a meal instead of eating in Enchante. And it was usual for him to simply enjoy his meal and then leave. But he witnessed something he scarcely believed actually happened in real life. A young woman was seated at a table for two, very close to the same time that he was, and while he waited for his beverage to arrive, he saw the whole display, just as it happened in movies. She waited and held the server off, made excuses. Distress slowly crept on her features as the person she waited for never arrived. And Rindo found himself spying the spectacle while he watched the time pass and his own anxiety grew for her.
How awful.
When his own drink arrived, Rindo informed the server that he wouldn't be taking his meal order and asked about the young lady, just to be sure he wasn't going to make a fool of himself. But sure enough, he was right. According to the server she was trying to wait for someone. Now determined, Rindo asked to be moved to her table. And once the server was gone again, he took up his drink and crossed the way, casually sliding in as if he were always meant to be seated there. The least he could do was save her from the embarrassment.
Tumblr media
"Good evening," he hummed as he settled into place. "I'm sorry to just intrude like this, but I noticed that you seemed to be missing someone. Would you mind if I sat with you, at least until they arrive?"

@smolcuriouskitten | title; watch out! (CJ & Roxie) | wanted a starter!
Tumblr media
Whenever she felt that tight coil in her chest pull even tighter, CJ did the only sure-fire thing to get rid of it—she ran. When she ran, her problems began to sort themselves out, therefore releasing the anxiety that came with them. It was as if she needed her legs to move as fast as her mind just to keep up, to think at the right speed. And because she was running and thinking and calming down, she didn’t pay a bit of attention to the path ahead.
She saw the figure a half-second too late—in trying to stop, her feet struck the ground hard. One foot in front of the other, getting caught on her heel. Normally graceful in pretty much every physical move she pulled, she tried to spin the clumsy move but oh, no—there was no stopping it.
“Watch out!” she managed to cry out, the sound somewhat strangled with a yelp as she struck the person, with her shoulder and arm. It was sheer luck that kept her from bowling them over completely, but that luck ran out when she hit her knee painfully on the pavement.
Then CJ was sitting on the ground, wincing, knee bloody. “Ah, shit!”

this post is fearmongering. the results of this study are concerning and should definitely be a matter of public discussion, but this is certainly not the conclusion the researchers came to.
the point of the study was to assess the risks of exposure to toxic metals- something one of the co-authors notes are “ubiquitous” fwiw- via menstrual products. Their research confirmed that these metals are indeed present in tampons, but no further conclusions are drawn. it is possible the metal entered into the cotton from the soil, which is a well-known phenomenon; cotton is so good at lifting heavy metals that it has actually been suggested as a part of the solution for revitalizing polluted ground.
the authors conclude with an acknowledgement that the study should be repeated- their sample size was 60 tampons- and a suggestion that further testing ought to be done to indicate whether or not these metals can even leech out of the tampon in the first place, let alone whether or not such leeching could occur at levels deleterious to human health.
there is, in fact, a body of research- too small, for sure, but much larger than this single study- indicating that long-term proper tampon use has no observable negative impact on health. i am grateful and thrilled that more research is being done and i hope that this study is the first of many on this line of questioning, but i am really frustrated at this post and the response it got.
obviously, if this study alters your approach to menstrual health, more power to you. consumers should be informed-risk-takers, and menstrual health is double-obviously a very personal choice. but it definitely wasn't the researchers concluding that you ought to “avoid using tampons at all cost," only this tumblr user did. the lead author of the paper, in fact, specifically says that she hopes people do NOT panic about the results.
(the notes of the post were disappointing. people affirming that they knew they were right to be suspicious of tampons all along, or even recommending alternatives that actually have very little to no research regarding the safety of long-term use, etc. it’s a different conversation, but categorical distrust of tampons is old-school misogyny. you certainly shouldn't wear them if you don’t want to, but there is nothing inherently scary or wrong about them, and people who prefer them are not being reckless or crass.)
((if you're really worried about exposure to heavy metals, you may want to turn a critical eye to fast fashion, as an aside))

Starter for Roman @dogtccth
Entering Roman's posh little nightclub he makes his way to the man's table. Gotham was the latest city they were attempting to expand their network to, and creating a liaison with Sionis was their first step. The man, of course, seemed to enjoy putting the resources they were providing, and he was certainly taking advantage of the sniper's skills.

Rowling isn't denying holocaust. She just pointed out that burning of transgender health books is a lie as that form of cosmetic surgery didn't exist. But of course you knew that already, didn't you?
I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?
In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".
Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.
This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.
Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.
The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black and white photo of a group of people. Some are smiling at the camera, others have serious expressions. Either way, they all seem to be happy. On the right side, an older gentleman in glasses- Magnus Hirschfeld- is sitting. He has short hair and a bushy mustache. He is resting one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him. His other hand is being held by a person to his left. Another person to his right is holding his shoulder.]
There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.
This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black and white photo of the May Nazi book burning of the Institute of Sexology's library. A soldier, back facing the camera, is throwing a stack of books into the fire. In the background of the right side, a crowd is watching.]
As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.
But of course, you knew that already, didn't you?
Edit: Added image IDs. I apologize to those using screen readers for forgetting them. Please reblog this version instead.
