Yeehawgust 2024: Greener Pastures

Saddle up, folks! We’ve got greener pastures on the horizon, because it’s time for Yeehawgust’s 6th year this August!

Yeehawgust features daily art prompts as well as alternative weekly prompts, for those of us who are a bit slower on the draw. Don’t draw at all? No problem! Submit any art at all, be it illustration, comics, writing, fanfiction, photography, embroidery, sculpture, music, or whatever other creative endeavors you might enjoy. All skill levels are welcome, and this can be a great opportunity to experiment with new styles and techniques. 

Maybe you love media like Red Dead Redemption and Fallout: New Vegas, or classic westerns like The Magnificent Seven. You might enjoy the genre, and you’re looking for a chance to make a cowboy AU and put your OCs in chaps and your blorbos in a Stetson. Heck, maybe you just really want to draw horses. Not too long ago I made a post about Zeb and his cute face, now let's talk about Kallus. I was rewatching Zero Hour like one does, when I decided I need to start taking screenshots of Kal's face.

Kallus just beat some stromtroopers up and entered an escape pod. These are the faces that he makes while he's activating the pod and sending a help request to the Ghost as Fulcrum.

He's focused, sure, but especially in that first picture he looks like a man who's feeling a mix of determined, hopeful and worried. I love how the light hits his face, he's literally going towards the Light ;__;

These are immediately after Hera takes him in the Ghost. His shoulders drop and he exhales a sigh because he did escape from the Empire, he's safe!

I love the contrast between him looking steadfast and brave and his relieved face.

snippet: Regulus doesn’t loosen his hold on James until James is gently laying him down on his bed. Regulus wastes no time and shimmies out of his slacks and briefs and James quickly removes his joggers. As frantic as they were just a moment ago, things seem to slow down a bit as James steps back to admire Regulus sprawled out on his bed. Normally such direct and blatant attention would make Regulus want to hide away, curl in on himself or move things along quickly to avoid these moments. But instead, he finds himself staring back at James with just as much adoration. James’ gaze is so intense Regulus feels like he might burst into flames and still he has no desire to break the moment. He’s happy to lay here and burn if James is the one setting him on fire.

epic the musical olympian eye color headcanons (let me cook):

athena: piercing blue irises with no pupils. unexpectedly bright, always- a faint glow can be discerned under scrutiny, but be wise. you are not the one scrutinizing here.

zeus: no pupils, no irises, no sclerae- only the color of lightning. a child thinks it yellow, but a man knows any color brightened beyond the visible spectrum appears blazing white. and when the skies reach down, the color is not important anymore.

hermes: you could mistake those beautiful honey-brown eyes for human. this olympian is a rare one forgive at times.

poseidon: no one thinks of how the black pupils are really a very dark navy, or the how the sclerae are a shade of aquamarine. they are all staring at the most reflective irises, in which they see themselves in swirling, lightening, darkening, shifting waves. sometimes they see empire-destroying storms in those irises, sometimes light waves lapping at a lazy beach.

for ted lasso fans who aren't football fans, the akufo league subplot was pretty directly inspired by the april 2021 announcement of a proposed european super league founded by 12 of the richest clubs in europe competing in a closed group against each other plus 8 other teams tba.

the enterprise was cancelled very quickly after its announcement, but the differences between how that played out in ted lasso and the story as it played out in real life are.....hmmmm interesting choices to say the least.

the esl wasn't proposed by a cartoonishly villainous ghanaian billionaire. it was launched by a c-suite of white european and united states billionaire businessmen/team owners. - real madrid president florentino pérez spearheaded the proposal and claimed CEO position with andrea agnelli (owner of juventus), joel glazer (owner of man u), john henry (owner of liverpool), and stan kroenke (owner of arsenal) making up the rest of the proposed executive board. -these five are worth $2.3B, $13.5B (agnelli family), $4.8 (glazer family), $4B, and $12.9B, for a total of 37.5 billion dollars.

the esl proposal was formally announced on 18 april 2021 and by 21 april all 6 epl founding clubs had publicly announced their planned withdrawal from the league. this wasn't because of a rich white lady giving a heartwarming speech to a room of other rich people, it was because of a mass movement of working class fans denouncing the move as the capitalist greed and exploitation that it was, with some calling for fan ownership of clubs entirely:

i get using real events as inspiration and adapting them to fit a narrative purpose within the story, but i think it's worth it to know what the story line was based on, especially considering the specific racial and class changes that were made reframing the villains and heroes of this particular story.
