Has every intention to try and defy his so-called fate even still, even knowing all that effort may be for naught in the end. But at least he would like to say he tried

Tends to help people on a whim, without desiring credit for his actions or if it may help them in the long run

His abilities sap the vitality of his enemies, but consume his own when he uses his strongest ability

Due to his family's contract with the Abyss Order, his lifespan is longer than most humanoids, spanning centuries. Though not quite that of a Xianzhou native, like them, his people do still face a terrible curse to become monsters after a time, like many of the Abyss Order.

He is glad his loved ones will never live to see him succumb to it. One way or another.

Though he also secretly harbors the strongest desire to force the Abyss's immortality on them to ensure they can stay with him, and face the same fate. He has to wonder if the slumbering monster in him is to blame for that, or his own attachments

"just followin' orders," salvatore finishes for him, exasperated. "i know, johnny. you and everyone else were just followin' orders--victor says jump, you ask how high." johnny opens his bleary, watery eyes to look at sal, and he sees the vampire's back to him. he picks something up, hefting its weight in his hands, and when he turns back, johnny sees he's holding a baseball bat. it's old and bent in multiple places, with dark red stains in the battered metal. johnny's face blanches at the sight, and salvatore laughs.

"you like it?" salvatore asks cheekily. he holds the bat up so johnny can get a better look at it. "i was never a baseball guy as a kid, but i think i can see the appeal now." his gaze flicks back to johnny. "think i can get a homerun here, johnny?"

"you're fucking insane," johnny spits back at him. "i-i never-"

"y'know," sal says casually as he rests the baseball bat on one shoulder, "once upon a time, i'd be applaudin' ya' for that kind of loyalty. that kind of thing's hard to come by in our line of work. it's noble, really." sal's grip on the bat seems to tighten, and the metal creaks. johnny swallows again. "but, well, you're the fuckin' moron who decided to be loyal to a two-faced snake in the grass." his smile is gone now. "you dug your grave, john. you dug it the moment you signed the dotted line to be victor's dog."
