I want Tim!Robin and Red Hood caught in camera fighting where Tim’s being such a little shit trying to get Jason back in to the family and get him to bond, that Jason ends up throwing back “Yeah, how’s fracticide for a bonding activity?” Only Tim smiles like the little freak he is. In his mind, he is like wow he skipped steps two to five and acknowledged we’re brothers. progress.

meanwhile, Jason is screaming in frustration and shooting at him, but just missing him cause he is sorry about titans tower but that’s about it. he doesn’t like the brat, he doesn’t want to play happy family with him and he doesn’t appreciate his efforts of purposely getting in dangerous situations in front of Jason so he has to sweep in just because he feels guilty. (Tim is totally trying to get him to associate him to safety)

Anyways the next day Jason wakes up to a bunch of headlines and conspiracies stating his sibling rivalry with Robin publicly which what. Now Jason has many of his enemies trying to get back at him via the little idiot and oh my fucking god Jason has never been so distracted as to having to keep up with bat comm than he is now. He curses everything and everyone and begrudgingly has his goons act like traffic light protection control.

Yes Jason has accidentally been given the chance to redeem himself by dealing with a problem he himself made and he’s giving himself sooo much shit for it. He literally never meant everyone to question in polls who’s now more protective over Robin—Jason’s literally mortified????to have Batman compared to him in that regard??? Jason may not like Robin at all but hell is the bar fucking low. that he refuses to let the dumbass die in the same colors he did is—is not a fucking custody battle?? what why is Vicky Vale painting it like that

Jason swears he has never hated the media more than he does now. He is constantly framed in being in a competition with Batman?? which yeah he gets a fucking kick of winning one over the asshole but he literally said it in that fucking video (the beginning of his downfall) he is the Tim’s older brother why do they have to bring Batman in the conversation?? he fucking hates him. how do u curate your playlists? they're so good (listening to the glen powell one rn lol)

dearest anon, please know you've made my entire summer with this ask <3333 (here's the playlist in question)

now while i recognise you probably weren't looking for a legitimate breakdown of the process here, you've inspired me to take a deep dive, and i'm prone to getting carried away (and yes, i read high fidelity recently and rewatched the film and the series. but i'm sure that has nothing to do with it). so here goes, under the cut:

Lizzy's Guide to the Delicate Art of Making a Playlist

#1 - What's the Point?

There has to be a theme or mood or connecting thread for the playlist. That being said, as long as it makes sense to you, you've pretty much got this covered.

What's the story? Is it based on a mood, an event, a time in your life, a person, a character, a genre, an era, etc. etc. There's plenty to choose from, so there's plenty of playlists to be made. Go crazy, get weird with it.

(In this example, the overarching theme is: Glen Powell Hot (Twisters Edn.) with a sub-theme, if you will: Country Music for Beginners.)

#2 - Song Selection

Once the theme is set, I gather a few tracks that spring to mind immediately. In this instance:

• Why'd You Come In Here Lookin' Like That - Dolly Parton

• Cowboy Take Me Away - The Chicks

• Country's Cool Again - Lainey Wilson

All of these are fairly self-explanatory if you have been caught up in the Twisters press tour at all recently. No further comment.

From here I flesh out the ~general vibelist~ with more tracks, some classics and some deep cuts. I'm cross-referencing my own musical knowledge, previous playlists, spotify mixes (god forgive me, the occasional algorithm picks), and other user's Powell playlists (topgun-heavy, but you certainly can't blame them).

#3 - Order Matters

There's got to be some sort of flow to the playlist front to back, unless your theme is audio whiplash, for example.

Now here I am a devout follower of the High Fidelity rules, which are as follows:

Track 1 - Open with a killer - sets the tone, gets people invested

(Here, Lady Gaga's You And I ~ it's a banger, and it's country enough to get away with. Can't bring out the banjo prematurely, we'll lose people)

Track 2 - Bring it up a notch - let them know we're just getting started

(Alannah Myles, Black Velvet ~ country-ing it up a notch but staying firmly in the mainstream, because again, we don't want to scare anyone)

Track 3 - Cool it down - now we're settling in

(Chris Stapleton ft. Dua Lipa - I Think I'm In Love With You ~ Dua keeps us firmly rooted in the crowd pleasers, and we can sneak in some Stapleton)

N.B. There is a rule here that I don't abide by, the "only one track per artist" - there's three dolly tracks in this lineup alone and i stand by all of them. Provided you're not adding an entire album or two, I think you can get away with it.

Anyway, this three-track run fires us into a classic (Islands In The Stream) which melts into Tyler Childers and suddenly we're knee deep in Kentucky and you didn't even know it.

The trick is to not overthink it, which is always easier said than done. Ordering only has to make sense to you from start to finish. This journey's gotta go somewhere - throw in a few peaks and troughs, and the songs are just connecting the dots along the way.

#4 - As Does Shuffle-ability

Now, having said all that, I feel like this is a safe space to admit I am a chronic shuffler, so a degree of shuffle-ability is required.

All this means is that your underlying theme is evident throughout. Any wildcards are going to make sense wherever they pop up.

With this one, the thread of country through all of these tracks is what ties the theme together (saving a horse). There are some classics (Faith Hill, Willie Nelson), soul-heavy tracks (Secret Sisters, Leon Bridges), and and few more pop-adjacent (Haim, Ashe) but they've all got that twang - so it's shuffle proof.

#5 - Points for Presentation

A good cover, title and description can offset a multitude of sins. Don't underestimate the power of presentation.

Duration comes into play here also, where anything shorter than half an hour feels like it has nowhere to go, but over three hours feels insurmountable. Unless you're going for a compilation, year in your life playlist, or some background low-fi stuff, keep it tight.

And there you have it folks, my (lengthy) guide to playlist curation. Final note, don't love it and leave it. If you come across something new, jostle things around to get it in. Similarly, if something doesn't fit anymore, toss it. The beauty of the modern mixtape is you can edit it as little or as often as you like.

i don’t think i’ll ever move on from how mtz and red dwarf are just. the same shows. they’re about a little group of people in space who are so bad at their jobs and/or do not do their jobs. they’re all always fighting but love each other more than anything. the protagonist is a purposeful subversion of your usual sci-fi protagonist by making him kind of so pathetic to varying degrees. his best friend is either a robot or arguably a robot and also they’re kind of ridiculously gay for each other despite having one sided beef that grows into absolute best friendship. i could write essays on how rimmer and lister are like if pleck and c-53 swapped roles and personalities. rimmer IS nermut if you put them in a room together they’d leave several hours later not shutting up about how they finally met someone who was On Their Level who UNDERSTOOD and APPRECIATED their career goals. one time nermut was very clearly about to get executed but he was COMPLETELY convinced he was getting a promotion—this would happen to rimmer. holly and bargie? okay sentient ship/ship ai nation. they’re both about The Horrors and how important it is to find love for life and for the people around you to get through it. this list does continue i’ve been thinking about this for months. these are the same shows in different fonts and it’s beautiful.

you know what’s insane though. mtz parodies basically every popular piece of sci-fi media in existence and yet there is not a Single red dwarf reference in here. if any of the cast had watched red dwarf there WOULD be a reference somewhere. But there isn’t. these guys don’t know they remade a british sitcom in podcast format. They don’t know how many hysterical episode premises they missed out on

Are there any memories of your grandmas that you wanna talk about?

The one I've shared with my friends today is a silly one.

Years ago as a kid, my grandmas would take me out to our local Thai restaurant. At the time, I went to school with the owner's kid, Pj, and she would asked what our homework assignments were that day when she came around to our table.

Jan, my grandma's partner at the time, caught the hiccups as we waited for our food. They went down the list of ways to get rid of the hiccups: holding your breath, rolling your tongue, scaring someone. None of them worked. So my grandma came up with another plan, she kissed Jan.

At the time, I was in middle school. Something like disgust washed over me as I watched them kiss. It was the grossest thing I'd ever seen. Then terror washed over me, my stomach churned for a different reason and I asked myself

I grew up as a cis woman dating primarily other women until I came out as trans sometime around 2015. Now I'm trans and date any gender.

My grandmas also owned a witch shop called the Oracle for years. I used to sit behind the desk and mix oils, read their spell books, and feel like the coolest kid ever as I basked in the heavy scent of incense and wind chimes.

boring answer, but i don't really have any thoughts because i don't engage with it! i'm much more of an interview/book/article/MAYBE podcast person than a YouTuber or video essayist fan... i will say though that i have seen many interesting and, shall we say, colorful opinions and assumptions about The Sponge Show and the people who work on it in the cartoon reviewing community. i deliberately try to keep my distance for that reason. but i haven't really watched any of them (outside of i.. did Mr. Enter do Animated Atrocities? because i do recall watching those as a t(w)een and just not really thinking much of them other than "someone talking about SpongeBob!! i like SpongeBob". this was also like 11-12 years ago)

more power to fans of cartoon reviewers and cartoon reviewers though! cartoon analysis is a lot of fun and i hope at the very least it's inspired folks to be able to view their own favorite cartoons with a new intimacy and enjoy the bonuses of that. the discourse and Internet-ness of it all is not for me though

A question that Jiaoqiu had been asked time and time again since Feixiao became his charge. It had been uttered from the mouths of his contemporaries at the Ranzhi School, from the elite soldiers among the Verdant Knights' ranks, and now from his Shadow Guard companion. The foxian turned his gaze to face the hooded man, pale golds appearing to reflect the blazing orange of the artificial sun setting below the horizon.

"We've known each other for a long time now, haven't we, Moze?" He said with serene calm. "Surely you know what my answer is." It would be the same one he provided every inquirer without fail, and without compromise. There was pause before Jiaoqiu spoke again with a voice of quiet conviction, yet it still bore a heavy weight that was almost tangible in the air around them.

honestly one of the top reasons why i love lamen so much is their mutual obsession! both of them are obsessed and infatuated with each other to a concerning degree and what makes it so special is the fact the odds were completely against them 🥺 i mean think about it: who falls in love and (enthusiastically) sleeps with their brother's killer? who thinks about abandoning their throne to be near a guy who had them whipped and beaten? only an otherworldly love could be the cause of both of their actions when the circumstances were so dire, so i really love exploring this dynamic 🥰 i really think no matter which universe damen and laurent would always be drawn to each other in the most intense way . i also don't particularly understand why some feel the need to portray laurent as the uninterested party between them when to me, their love has always been equal. lamen's magic comes from both of them loving the other more than anything and anyone in the world 🥹(tho at the end of the day, to each to their own! i don't mean to censor anyone)

First of all, I owe you a big apology, since it took me so long to come around to this ask! Truth is, I really like Lord of the Rings, yet haven't watched the movies in ages - so I used this message as an excuse to rewatch at least the first movie before I answer this ask 🤭 (chose LotR to rewatch since I kind of like them more than the Hobbit movies).

And what can I say, after I've fallen head first into my LOTR-phase again: You are so right. Apart from the fact that I absolutely adore Elrond (incidentally one my favourite characters), I definitely see your point.

First of all, Elrond is such a well spoken and attentive person, gives out considered advice, has strong opinions at times and very courageous moments. And he can be so gentle!

(Isildur should've listened to him, that would've solved a lot of ensuing problems)

His fashion sense, regarding robes and armour, is so elegant! It would fit Richard perfectly, since it's sophisticated, flattering and so aesthetically pleasing.

Because since I saw Richard for example in this Roman armor in the Deutschland music video, I'm dying to see him in some LotR/GoT/fantasy armor 🙏🏻

Apart from Hugo Weaving's wonderful portrayal of Elrond, I imagine him looking like this in the books (credits to Rene Gross) - just think about Richard in this fashion! 🤍

And let's not forget Erlond's home, Rivendell. It's so elegant and I can very well imagine Richard wandering through the halls and the gardens:

I know its late and "Oh god he's making another text post on his art blog" blah blah whatever but I've been going through Bluesky all night leaving nice comments on art i enjoyed-- and I came back and saw a really heart felt post about an artist sharing their work with others.

The TL;DR was that art online is oftentimes taken and stripped of the artists original meaning, and then shared, altered, with that piece missing: only a reflection of the viewers perception. (Like when more serious art gets memed on or w/e) The example was like two cat-girls labeled as addiction and enabler, and then being joked with as "me and who?"

It broke my heart to see that a lot of immediate responses were "then don't share your art if you can't handle that" and "i am an artist who can no longer share all their personal art because i cannot handle the image being warped or mistreated"

Like... Art is a conversation and oftentimes an expression of self. Sure you can see your own interpretation of it, everyone does, but art is made by individuals. Real people.

No one likes having their words twisted to mean something they didn't intend, so why is it different if the artist makes clear what they are trying to express in their art?

I guess the point I'm trying to make is: respect the boundaries artists set for their work. Try to see from their perspectives, and respect what they create as you would an individual you would meet. If they're fine with you goofing on their messages, whatever, it doesn't matter, have fun. Or if you want to clown, create adaptive work of your own that expresses your own view. But if they're expressing themselves and ask for the space, do a kindness and respect the boundary. They're letting you into their "home," you do not have to enter but when you are a guest be considerate of their space.

What is the fix that is your favorite qi rong fic??? I want to read it 🥺

When the Sun Comes Up I'll Be There With You by lordydoo!!! It's a really fantastic look into Qi Rong and also one of those fics where an author appears out of the aether, drops a life-changing bombshell on you, and then just disappears forever again.

It's a non-magical modern AU where Qi Rong accidentally finds out that his family really, really doesn't like him very much, and the subsequent emotional spiral that he only manages to bring himself out of when he meets a little kid named Guzi on his fire escape.

The first section is entirely about Qi Rong and Guzi, and then eventually Lang Qianqiu comes into the picture. I think that it's kinder to Qi Rong than canon, but it's also a lot kinder to everyone than canon, seeing as it's a modern AU where things like cannibalism and demonic ghosts and stabbing people with swords are not "par the course." That said, I think that it does an amazing job drawing extremely apt parallels to how Qi Rong's situation and various, complex traumas would have played out in the setting that the author chose, and maybe how things could have gotten better for him if he had the opportunity to pursue a healthier environment.

Also, I think as a modern AU it carries a lot of weight in terms of creating a setting where Qi Rong's experiences can be considered as the traumas they are without being, ironically, overshadowed by things like "getting stabbed through the chest and locked in a coffin for 100 years."
