Anon, I feel you! This is the perfect question to kick off another Monday and, dear god, the start of yet another workweek. Come, take my hand as we escape The Horrors©️ of emails, Teams chat, and all political news. Instead, we’ll daydream about perusing the shelves of Sorcerous Sundries with our lovely wizard husband.

The same wizard husband who, by the way, would do anything and everything to ensure that his beloved Tav was not pushed to the point of being overworked & overwhelmed. Being a man of considerable magical talent, he’s extremely experienced with invisibility spells and making things disappear; so you’d best believe he’d do everything in his power to make Tav’s stressors disappear completely.

But! Even the most carefully laid plans sometimes fail, and I do think there would be occasions where Tav would be stressed, despite Gale’s attempts to prevent it. In those instances, he’d have to adopt a different approach.

Anon, perhaps you may have heard of the two great scholars I mention below? Several years ago, these two brilliant individuals concocted a flawless strategy to de-stress and practice self-care. A strategy they called…“Treat yo self”!

Gale Dekarios adheres firmly to this strategy in his care for a stressed Tav, using all of the following:

Comfy clothes for Tav (from Gale’s own Waterdeep tailor)

Soothing fragrance/candles/bath oils

Mage hand massages at Tav’s request

Mimosas & brunch served to Tav in bed, prepared by Gale

Fine leather-bound books (Gale might also purchase a book or two for himself 😇)

And not to mention, lots and lots of wizard smooches. Which, along with the massages/scented baths, may or may not lead to other, uhhh…potentially de-stressing activities. 🥵

Suffice it to say, anon, Gale will ensure that Tav will be stress-free and blissfully relaxed in no time at all.

I'm sorry I have nothing planned for Más y Menos yet. I don't know much about them, but I'll think about it.

On the underused characters topic, I have something planned with Jonah Hex and the Justice Riders, to link them all with Max Mercury's backstory. So have a grumpy bounty hunter.

AU idea

Padme snaps at how bad the Senate is handling the Clone Wars after some of her friends in the 501st get injured and are refused the most basic of medical care (I hold firmly in my heart that Padme is friends with the 501st)

So, she unleashes Anakin against the Hutt Clans, takes the 501st and takes over all of Hutt Space and just before she comes down from her crazed state adopts Ahsoka. They then became a third faction in the Clone Wars

How would you handle this?

I love the use of 'unleashes', like, I literally pictured her going around with Anakin on a leash (kinky) , showing up to Jabba's palace to negotiate and parading around the scary dog privilege.

Jabba: What do you have there -pointing at the very murderous looking- jedi on a leash-

Padmé: A smoothie.

Jabba: And what's that? -pointing at the end of the other leash, which is sabé-

I don't think ending the hutt's systemic hold through all their colonies is going to be easy though, even with the 501st and two jedi. I think they will need a lot of support which is going to be hard to get with a war going on.

My biggest question here would be Palpatine. I think something as radical as this would get Padmé expelled from her seat in the senate; and Anakin expelled from the jedi. Palpatine's agenda would adapt so he can still get his sith empire and his dog apprentice. I suspect he would either, pretend to support them from behind the curtains "oh yes, i support this but see, the laws have my hands tied, I can offer you some anonymous donations, though -wink wink-", or he would try to get a way to have Anakin close to him again; perhaps would try to kidnap Padmé and/or Ahsoka so Anakin falls under the impression they're going to die.

Essentially they would be seen as a band of terrorists or as bad as the separatists, and because the hutt space has important routes, i think many planets from the core would start suffering the effects in their economy.

I think I would write this, first from an outsider POV, because it would be so fun. From a random citzen, another senator or even another jedi, be cause it would sound so crazy. The senator that advocated the most for pacifism ran away with a jedi and his legion and now they're committing war crimes in the outer rim? craaazy.

Also Anakin and Padmé would both be like,,,going at 40 mph (40 meltdowns per hour).

I feel like his first reaction would be grand gestures, but then he realizes that they may come off as fake to a tav who is already having trouble trusting. It may stump him for awhile! He would have to put that genius mind to the test for this one.

Ah anon, I so wish I could tinker with the Confidence™️ stat of every Galemancer who writes in with a question or uncertainty over whether Gale would love them because of ‘insert-perfectly-normal-human-trait-that-our-shallow-modern-society-has-deemed-unworthy.’

I’d give you all 20s in Confidence, because that’s how Gale sees his beloved: a perfect 20.

Actually, no! I take that back. Gale would consider them higher than a 20. What’s the highest a DND stat can go with bonuses, etc? Because it’d be that number plus 5. Maybe plus 10.

Here’s the thing: the feelings and uncertainty that you just described are ✨exactly✨ what Gale is feeling when he realizes Tav is in love with him.

He simply can’t believe it:

And what I truly think would happen, IF Tav were insecure about their relationship at all, is that Gale wouldn’t even have to do any grand gestures or pondering over how to convince Tav of his love—because he would already be proving it to them every single day.

He would be going out of his way to prove HE was worthy of THEIR love, because he would struggle to believe that someone as wonderful and gorgeous and amazing as Tav would love someone like him: a shamed wizard with nothing but failed relationships (both mortal and immortal) under his belt. Would Tav’s feelings for him last? Gods, he hoped so…

And if Tav hasn’t been a relationship before? If this amazing wonderful Tav is SO wonderful that any potential suitors were too foolhardy or too cowardly to scoop them up?

Well! Gale will simply need to prove his love tenfold for this beloved Tav, this incredible Tav, whom, for some unknowable reason, chose to be with him!

Anon, do you see what I mean? Tav would have no time to feel unworthy or insecure—because they’d be too busy loving and being loved by Gale 💜

They met when they both were humans. Since at the time Corben was head of LexCorp security, he would often accompany Lex on his regular STAR Labs visits (which eventually led to STAR Labs being acquired by LexCorp of course).

What are your favorite Giles moments? What is a 'missing scene' or something you'd like to have seen Giles do or say and didn't?

I think my favorite Giles moments are the obvious ones, really.

His reaction to Buffy coming back to Sunnydale in Dead Man's Party: not just the fact he's the only person not to give her a hard time about being gone but because he's so obviously happy that she's returned but tries to hide that delight from her. He understands her in a way her friends and her mother can't -- he too struggled with his supernatural calling when he was young, and tried running away from it, after all -- but he thinks his affection for her is something to be ashamed of.

His speech to her in Innocence ("if it's guilt you're looking for [...] I'm not your man. All you will get from me is my support and my respect"). Not only is this a nice moment in itself (albeit one later undercut a little by the events of Helpless), it also -- together with Joyce looking at Buffy and telling her that "you look the same to me" in the very next scene -- strongly suggests that people who read Season 2 as the show somehow punishing Buffy for the "mistake" of sleeping with Angel have chosen a reading that the show is actively rejecting. Angel losing his soul is a metaphor for something that really happens -- you sleep with somebody and then they seem to become somebody a lot less pleasant -- but it's not the show's position that any of this is Buffy's fault.

His various moments sticking up for Buffy when she's not around to see it. Threatening Snyder in Dead Man's Party, of course ("would you like me to convince you?"), as well as more gently defending her earlier in the show, but also lots of his interactions with Wesley or other Watchers are also fun ("If you want to criticize my methods, fine. But you can keep your snide remarks to yourself. And while you're at it, don't criticize my methods").

Giles is pretty funny, actually; I think he gets some pretty good lines throughout the show. For example I like the scene in Intervention when he and Buffy are out in the desert for a ritual, she points out they don't have any food or water with them and wonders if the guide he's summoning for her will also "a week later" lead him to her "bleached bones", and he insists that won't happen: "it takes more than a week to bleach bones". Or his speech to the gang in I Only Have Eyes For You ("I appreciate your thoughts on the matter. In fact, well, I encourage you to always challenge me when you feel it's appropriate. You should never be cowed by authority. ... Except, of course, in this instance, when I am clearly right and you are clearly wrong.")

I don't really like fandom attempts to cast Giles as the Scooby Gang's unproblematic Team Dad, but I do like the very different ways Giles interacts with Buffy's friends, from his gentle support of Willow in the early seasons to his frequent irritation with Xander ("Am I right Giles?" "Almost certainly not, but to be fair I wasn't listening." or "Xander, don't speak Latin in front of the books"). I like the fact that Dawn -- as the part of Buffy who gets to be a normal kid and not a Slayer -- quickly intuits that Giles doesn't really like her. I like the scene where Giles goes to kill Angelus in Passion and the scene in which he confronts Angel in Amends.

Oh, and of course "I believe the subtext here is rapidly becoming text", which I'm pretty sure I've quoted on this blog more than once.

Missing scene ... well, I've argued recently (and repeatedly) that we should have seen Giles trying to help Faith a bit more than we did if the show didn't want us to blame him for her changing sides, so let's go with something else. It would have been nice if we'd had a scene where Giles tried to get Buffy to talk about Kendra's death, I think (I mean in the same way he's able to get her to open up about how it felt to have to send Angel to hell). He wouldn't have to be successful -- you could contrast this with his own reluctance to talk about Jenny, even -- but it would make it much, much easier to read Buffy's ongoing silence about Kendra as a deliberate character choice, rather than -- as I strongly suspect it was -- the writers just never caring about Kendra at all and assuming the audience didn't either.
