Conclusions
Ginny's run out of her good parchment and has been reduced to using something she dug out of the bottom of her trunk, hating the way her quill scratches over the rough surface. As though it isn’t punishment enough to be writing about History of Magic, she’s got to do it on this piece of rubbish.
“Bloody, buggering fu–” she swears as the point of her quill pierces a hole straight through her conclusion. Apt, probably - it had been flimsy at best. There’s a metaphor here, somewhere.
“Revision going well, then?”
The wry voice startles her so much that she nearly upends her bottle of ink all over her weak – in more ways than one – essay. “Fuck, Harry, I’d no idea you were there.”
She blinks up at him in surprise and finds him smirking, standing at the table she’s claimed in a corner of the library, looking adorably entertained by her plight. His bookbag is slung carelessly over his shoulder, his hair mussed, his stupid face made more handsome by the teasing lilt of his smile. Her heart flutters a bit, because that’s just what it always does with him. She ignores it valiantly, and hates him for it, a little.
“Sorry,” he says, though he sounds more amused than anything. “Mind if I sit?”
“Course,” she says, gesturing to the seat opposite. “Can’t guarantee there won’t be more swearing, though.”
He eyes her holey essay as he sits, jerking his head questioningly toward the parchment. “What’re you working on?”
“Something for Binns.”
“Ah, I’d be swearing, too.”
“Fucking hell, eh?”
They share a smile, and Ginny reckons she’d be better off writing an essay about that - the way she knows exactly when he’ll find something funny; the way jokes fall a bit flat when the punchline isn’t his eyes seeking her out, green and piercing and flickering with amusement. She’d fill the parchment with ease.
It’s easy to write about something you can’t stop reading into.
Just like she’s madly reading into the way he’s shown up here - no Ron, no Hermione - and sought her out, like it’s normal, like they’ve been doing this for years even though they haven’t. It feels like they have, though. That’s the worst part of it.
“What’re you doing here?” she asks, like he might just come right out and say it - to see you.
He doesn’t. She pretends that she can’t be disappointed by what she expects.
“Transfiguration,” he says darkly.
“Where’re Ron and Hermione, then?” she prods, picking at it like a scab, like a masochist. I wanted to get you alone, she urges him to say. I’ve been trying to all week and I haven’t even been subtle about it.
“Dunno,” he shrugs. Scabs bleed when you pick them, incidentally. “I can survive an evening without them, you know.”
“Can you? I don’t reckon your track record is all that spectacular on that front, if I’m honest.”
“Hey, I haven’t died even once.”
“Right,” she jokes. “Angling for a new nickname? ‘The Boy Who Hasn’t Died, Even Once’?”
He lets out a soft chuckle. “Rolls right off the tongue, that.”
“I’ll owl Rita for you. We can workshop something”
They smile.
She wants to shake him until he admits to it, confesses, like this thing brewing between them is a crime. She wants to lay all the evidence out in front of him, the aspiring Auror, and see what he makes of it. He can’t quip his way around the smiles and the banter and the looks he gives her. See, she’ll say, don’t you see?
He’s got shit vision.
They sit together for far longer than she’d planned to stay. At some point he adjusts in his seat, and his foot winds up touching hers, and he doesn’t even have the decency to move it. She fancies she can feel his warmth through their trainers, but no - it must be her own traitorous heart, frantically pumping warm blood to her foot like it’s the only part of her body that needs it, like the parts of her that aren’t touching him have ceased to matter because maybe they have.
Maybe she’s been distilled to the edge of her foot.
They talk about strategies for the Quidditch final, and OWLs, and argue playfully about which of her mum’s mince pies is the best. Ginny’s always fancied herself good at impressions, but she surprises even herself with her impression of easy nonchalance. All the while it’s building - each look, each smile, each easy joke they set each other up for feels like a firework she’s adding to the heap in her chest, ready to explode with the slightest spark.
You’ve got me alone, she tells him. Do something about it.
It’s nearly curfew. They start gathering their things, and still he hasn’t done anything. If he were any other boy, Ginny would cut through the bullshit herself, but something holds her back. She can’t fully articulate, unravel, why, but she needs him to be the one to admit it. She needs him to decide she’s worth the risk. He’s meant to be brave, isn’t he?
As she’s packing it away, Ginny remembers her abandoned essay, still punctured pathetically. She sighs, holds it up for Harry’s evaluation. “Think Binns’ll even notice?”
“Give it here,” he says, and she hands it over. He pulls his wand from his robes and waves it wordlessly, the gaping tear sewing itself together so it might never have been there. Ginny doesn’t know why she hadn’t thought to do that herself.
“Thanks. Only now, I’ve actually got to write a damn conclusion.”
He laughs and holds it back out to her. “You’re on your own.”
“Aren’t you meant to have a hero complex?” she quips, pushing the parchment back toward him. “Some useful saving-people thing? Have a go.”
To her immense surprise, he shoots her a wry smirk that sends a tingle through her stomach. “Alright.” He pulls out the quill he’d only just packed away, scrawls something at the bottom of her parchment, shielding it from view.
She’s gone utterly daft. Her heart is hammering in her chest, beating a tattoo on her ribcage; she wonders if her fingers are trembling as they reach across to take her essay back, fully convinced she’ll find the words Go out with me scribbled there.
In conclusion, he’d written, this essay is over.
She snorts, mostly at herself. She’s officially deluded. Cracked. What is wrong with her?
“Wow. Thanks for that,” she says drily. “How would Binns have known otherwise?”
He grins. “Anytime.”
“Totally unrelated, but do you offer refunds? Perhaps a voucher for another Harry Potter rescue at a later date?”
“Non-refundable. Sorry.”
“I’m going to be honest,” she lies. “I expected a better rescue than that.”
He shrugs. “You expect too much from The Boy Who Hasn’t Died, Even Once.”
She can’t help herself; she laughs. His eyes seek hers out - green, so green, twinkling with amusement and something that looks so fond. She’s going to set fire to the heap of fireworks in her chest, just to get it over with. She’ll explode in color, driven to madness by the boy who hadn’t died even once but who’d killed her, slowly, with smiles.
In conclusion, she thinks, I’m utterly fucked.

Howdy, fateful friends! Are you an artist or illustrator with an interest in visual novels?
If so: Moirai Myths, creators of the visual novel The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe), are in need of guest artists! More specifically, we're looking for up to two artists to help us with the content graphics ("CGs") for Maeve and Shae's upcoming routes. All of the details will be listed on our application form (linked below), but here is the gist:
This is paid work with 20-30 business day deadlines per piece!
Complicated revisions in the post-sketch phase are compensated!
You will be prioritized for future guest artist opportunities!
You will be featured/credited on Moirai Myths' website and in the game itself!
Sound interesting? If so, apply here:
Click under the cut for some F&Q 👇
Who are you? (I'm new here!)
Hi! We're Moirai Myths: a small, newish visual novel company based out of Canada. We're making a game inspired by mostly Irish mythology, which was funded on Kickstarter in 2023! Our game's got fairy politics, a diverse cast, a Gaeilge-to-English translation tool, and routes that can be played either romantically or platonically! Also horses. An ungodly amount of horses, really.
If that odd pitch sounded intriguing, perhaps you'd like to play our demo! It's free on Steam & Itch.io.
Why are you looking for guest artists?
When we originally launched our Kickstarter, the plan was to have our three in-house artists collaborate on the CGs in the same way our header image was. However, we quickly realized that adding CGs, even if they're done collaboratively, onto the existing duties of our artists was a tall order. Add to that the departure of our original sprite artist (who has since been replaced by our graphic designer), and we determined that having our in-house team work on CGs was simply not possible if we still wanted our first release to happen in 2024. So, rather than omitting CGs or adding them in at a later time, we came up with the idea of hiring guest artists. Overall this means our CGs will be a bit more varied in terms of art style, but we like to think of this as a positive! NDM's development will take a number of years to complete in full, so we hope our CGs will allow us to feature a lot of artists either within the VN/indie dev community already, or artists who aspire to work in gaming and are looking for entry positions.
How long will applications remain open for?
This application will be open until Sunday, March 24 at midnight (EST)! If we intend to extend past that deadline, we'll make an announcement about it.
I can't apply right now. Will you look for more CG guest artists in the future?
Definitely! As mentioned, NDM will take a while to develop in full, so this is by no means your only opportunity to apply. That being said, we suspect we're going to end up shortlisting a number of artists over the course of this application period, and we intend to keep a list of all the runners-up. So, even if you won't be able to participate this time, it might be a good idea to apply anyway just to remain in our contacts! Either way, this will not be the last time we have apps.
Will you be looking for guest artists outside of CGs?
Maybe! We already have two guest artists (Nefukurou and Madi Funk) working on sprites and CGs respectively, so it's always possible that we'll have other artistic needs later down the line. Likewise, we may also reach out to past guest artists for future work with us, whether it's on this game or something else!
You say we need to sign an NDA. What does that entail?
The non-disclosure agreement essentially means you will be legally unable to publicly disclose any confidential information you become privy to as a result of working with us. This would include personal information about the developers, as well as spoilers from the game itself. In addition do this, you will be expected to sign over the IP and copyright of any artworks you produce for us.
Can I still use my artworks in portfolios, even if I don't own the copyright?
Yes! We'd only ask, if your portfolio is a website, that you wait to do so until after your art has been made public by us, either on our social media or via the publication of the game. Our first release is anticipated to happen later this year, most likely mid-autumn.
How do you guys feel about AI? Do you intend to use it, or would you ever train an AI off of the artworks whose copyright you own?
No.
Making a game is expensive and time-consuming, but AI is no replacement for human artistry. We fundamentally believe that any advancements in AI should be used for the purpose of giving people more time to make art, not take away opportunities for it. Moirai Myths will never, ever use AI or train an AI off your work.
***
If you've got any more questions for us that we didn't think to include here, feel free to send us an ask!

I got my top surgery over 2.5.yrs ago and I wanted to share some tips for pre- and post-op care! I got a double mastectomy with free nipple grafts and I'm loving my results.
Pre-Op:
-If you smoke or vape, try to quit for as long as possible before your surgery date, ideally at least a couple months. Don't use nicotine while healing either. Nicotine constricts your blood vessels and this can impede healing. If you're getting nipple grafts like me, it can be the difference between the grafts healing successfully or falling off.
-for the love of all that is holy, FOLLOW YOUR SURGEONS EATING RESRTICTIONS BEFORE SURGERY. Anesthesia can cause you to regurgitate and aspirate, which can lead to pneumonia and be deadly. This is MUCH more likely if you eat food too soon before going under. If you get bad stomach issues like reflux, ask for anti-nausea meds to be given IV before you wake up. I almost aspirated right as I woke up even though I didn't eat beforehand bc of my acid reflux.
-You may want to make a lot of things more easily accessible to prepare for recovery. You'll want to be able to reach things like cups, bowls, silverware, medications, toiletries, clothing, etc easy to reach without having to reach above your shoulders.
-if you can, prep some comfort meals that are easy to reheat in the microwave or oven. This is especially helpful if you plan on being mostly self-sufficient during recovery.
-get plenty of loose-fitting button up shirts. They are by far the easiest thing to put on after top surgery.
Post-Op:
-if you want less visible scars, I HIGHLY recommend using silicone scar tape or silicone scar gel once your surgeon says it's ok. The tape is generally cheaper, reusable and washable by hand with soap and warm water. Two rolls lasted me my whole recovery and my scars are now barely visible. The gel is easier to apply and more sensory friendly, but more expensive. You can get both online.
-your chest will be swollen for up to a few weeks after surgery. This swelling may be assymetrical at first (mine was). Try to be patient and not pass any judgements on the quality of your results during this time. You can always get a revision after 6 months if you're still not happy with it, but don't freak out right away as things will take time to settle.
-your brain is adjusting to a major, sudden change to your body. It's okay if you feel some mixed emotions while you process this. Try to journal or talk about it with someone you trust. I know my brain does not cope well with change and while I never once regretted my surgery, it took a little bit of time to get used to my body looking different even if it's the way I wanted to look.
-make sure you empty your drains on time if you have them and keep your compression vest on. This will help you heal as best you can and reduce swelling.
-don't use heat or ice! Ice will restrict blood flow to areas that need blood flow to heal and heat can amplify swelling and inflammation.
-touch your chest along the length of your scars as much as you tolerably can. You will most likely have nerve damage from surgery and touching/massaging gently will help your nerves know how to re-grow and process sensation properly. I have pretty much full sensation in the center of my chest where I touch very often while the ends of my scars under my armpits (where I don't touch often) still have reduced sensation.
- Gently massaging your scars with two fingers once the scabs are healed can also help prevent knots and bumps in the scar tissue. Don't cause yourself pain, only do it if it's tolerable.
-FOLLOW ALL YOUR SURGEONS INSTRUCTIONS!! If they tell you to do something or not do other things, there is a good reason.
I'm also happy to answer asks and messages about my experience with getting top surgery! Take your time in deciding if this is right for you and know I love you all either way <3

Who is Amarantha?
Today, October 4, is my OC Amarantha's birthday.
Tumblr media
Bio
Amarantha Margeth Melbray is the daughter of Levico (L. D.) Melbray, author of the popular Morrick Hopeley detective stories, and his wife Edmara, nurse to King Talfrin's son, Elystan. The nature of Edmara's job makes it difficult for her to be at home consistently, so Amarantha has been raised primarily by her father. She developed an interest in art at an early age and has been encouraged to cultivate this talent. Her greatest aspiration is to become a famous artist, specializing in portraiture, and she is given a chance to work toward that future when her mother's employer, Queen Bethira, grants her a scholarship to a distinguished girls' school for the arts.
Upon arriving at this school, however, Amarantha learns that her scholarship has been suddenly and unexpectedly revoked. With nowhere else to go while her father is on a lecture tour, she joins her mother at the palace, where she reencounters her old nemesis Elystan. Amarantha has for a long time been deeply jealous of the boy who monopolizes her mother's attention and affection, and their meeting doesn't go well--she ends up slapping him and incurs the wrath of his mother. That night, Amarantha's mother wakes her up and hurries them onto a train, but she vanishes before she can explain, and Amarantha wakes up in a remote moated castle, lost, confused, and trapped. But she's not alone--Elystan's there too! Can she find answers about what happened and find a way out? Is Elystan worth joining forces with in this adventure? Is there any hope for her scholarship now that she's offended the royal family?
Why I Love Her
This child is intense. Everything is Serious Business, especially art. She has one plan for her life, it's her glorious purpose, and she has no backup plans. At age twelve, she's already got Opinions about what portraiture should and shouldn't be. She's constantly struggling with reality's failure to live up to her grandiose expectations. She's trying so hard to win her mother's attention back (maybe if I accomplish something impressive enough, maybe if I'm accommodating enough, maybe if I'm responsible and undemanding enough...) but she feels as if she can never get more than crumbs, and she's deeply resentful beneath the compliance. She's a judgmental, jealous, petty jerk who thinks she knows and understands other people far more than she actually does--but also a naïve child who hasn't lost her sense of wonder and tendency to get caught up in fancifulness. She needs friends. She's going to get friends. She needs growth. She's going to get that too.
Description
Visitors to the Melbray parlor who encountered Amarantha seated silently on the sofa, her hands folded, typically received the impression that she was a quiet, mannerly child. It usually took a while before they noticed her peering at them with prominent brown eyes like an insect who had weighed them in the balance and found them wanting. The bow at the base of the brown braid wrapped around her head sprung from the back of her neck like a pair of wings. Her round face and small nose and mouth gave her an otherwise doll-like countenance, but nothing could soften the intensity of that gaze.

April Studyblr Challenge
3. reflect on march
I feel very good about March. I started a new job, my attitude towards it has already changed, but I am absolutely not discouraged. I feel like I have become more coherent, so to say. I met new people and learned that my friends care about me. Mentally, there was also a big change and probably for the better. I discovered some things about myself. Sometimes I am proud of myself because I am becoming who I once needed and who I aspired to be. It may sound lofty, but it's about queer stuff and mental health issues. I'm glad people trust me enough to ask for help.

Flight or Fancy
Tumblr media
A/N: This story was written for the April prompt of the @hp-12monthsofmagic challenge. Ethel Hexley and Madam Khanna (in mention) belong to @the-al-chemist, Lysander Mercury to @slytherindisaster, Ema McGilliguddy (in mention) and Professor MacMillan to @kc-and-co
It had all started very harmlessly, really.
Like most of their peers, Selene and Ethel had spent their afternoon in the library, preparing for their end-of-year exams. They had worked hard on their studies, so that after several hours of revising Transfiguration laws, incantations, and Potion recipes, Ethel had suggested they take the well-deserved break they were obviously due.
To give their plagued minds some respite, the two aspiring young witches had found their way to the poetry section of the library and were soon immersed in their favourite works. Their vigour renewed, they carried their pickings back to their table, reciting poignant passages back to one another as they went.
Ethel was of the strong opinion that poetry wasn’t something to be merely read - it was something to be experienced. So when a particularly riveting stanza gripped her, she and Selene climbed upon the long table running between the bookshelves, marching back and forth with books in hand and calling their partly bewildered, partly resigned-looking fellow students to rise in the fight against oppression and tyranny.
Madam Khanna, the librarian, evidently didn’t share their enthusiasm.
Some angry remarks, an outraged discussion, and two temporary library bans later, Ethel and Selene had found themselves equipped with weekly detention until the end of term, which was exactly where the two of them were currently spending their time.
With the impending exams, the temper in the student body had run high lately, so the classroom where detention was held was fuller than usual. Sighing, Ethel looked gloomily at the half-filled parchment in front of her.
‘I shalt not recite poetry whilst marching upon furniture. I shalt not call my peers to revolution. I shalt not call any member of the staff an operative of an oppressive system,’ stood there in neat lines, just as it did on the stack of parchment next to her. Ethel snorted to herself. As if she had done anything condemnable. What harm had she done, even? Wasn’t it the point of school to equip themselves with the means to scrutinise established truths? They really should make up their minds about this and not let her suffer the effects of their inconsistencies.
Looking up, she caught the eye of Selene, who had been several tables away from Ethel. They had shared a seat in the beginning, like they were wont to do, but Professor Ronen, the Charms teacher overseeing their detention, had soon put a stop to that and created as much space between the two friends as the room would allow; another thing Ethel thought simply outrageous.
The busy scratching of quills on parchment was broken when the door to the classroom swung open, and Professor Hecat, the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, poked her head inside. Professor Ronen immediately rose from his seat to meet her. A few subdued words were passed between them, then Ronen turned and pointed at Selene and a girl with light brown hair, big eyes, and emerald green robes.
“Misses Fraser and McGilliguddy, you are to help Professor Hecat prepare her lessons. You are dismissed.”
Giving Ethel an apologetic look, Selene gathered up her things and followed Ema McGilliguddy and Professor Hecat from the room. Ethel watched after them with dismay. She and Selene had wanted to head for the Quidditch pitch for some broom racing after detention, but helping the old witch would take forever.
Her plans for the rest of the day thwarted for good, Ethel quietly huffed, dipping her quill into her inkwell with more force than strictly necessary. Everything about this was so entirely unfair.
“Hexley.”
Ethel stiffened. Just what she needed right now.
“Hexley.”
Ethel gritted her teeth, stubbornly adding another line to her steadily filling page.
“Hey, Hexley!”
“I can’t hear you, Lysander,” she muttered, the slight lilt to her voice doing nothing to mask her annoyance.
“With those ears of yours? Improbable.”
“What do you want?” Ethel growled, turning sharply in her seat to glower at the grinning boy behind her. Before Lysander Mercury could reply, however, the sound of Professor Ronen clearing his throat echoed through the classroom.
“Does there seem to be a problem, Miss Hexley?”
“No, Professor,” Ethel said, glaring at Lysander one last time before turning in her seat again. “Everything’s in perfect order.”
Giving her a warning look, Professor Ronen turned back to his exam papers.
“As subtle as an Erumpent in a china shop,” Lysander’s amused snicker reached Ethel’s ear a moment later. “And about as elegant.”
“And about as effective at crushing you. Care to let me try?”
“You’d have to catch me first. They do say I’m quite swift.”
“What the mind lacks…”
“Enough to beat you on the pitch, though.”
“Sure, by cheating.”
“Not what the referee said.”
“Oh, go stick a quill up your nose.”
“How witty.”
“I’m done having this conversation,” Ethel declared, making to turn back around. She stopped when Lysander leaned across his table toward her.
“You don’t want to know my secret, then?”
“Is it about how to grow yourself a brain?”
“Why, are you in need of one?”
Ethel rolled her eyes. “Just tell me already and let me enjoy my detention in peace.”
Smirking, Lysander leaned back in his seat.
“No.”
“What do you mean, no?”
“I’ve changed my mind. I don’t want to tell you anymore.”
Ethel opened her mouth in outrage. “You cannot be serious.”
“I can assure you that I am.”
“Then I, in turn, can assure you that I do not care,” Ethel answered stuffily, returning her attention to her parchment. She paused, turning back to Lysander a moment later.
“You know it’s incredibly impolite to vex me so.”
“So you do care.”
“That’s not what I said at all.”
“Yes, it absolutely is.”
Lysander’s grin was wiped off his face when Ethel drew her wand and pointed it at his inkwell. It rose above the drawing Lysander had been working on instead of doing lines, slowly tipping to the side.
“You don’t want to do that, Hexley.”
“I most certainly do.”
Ethel could see the cogs turning in Lysander’s probably rather dusty brain as he attempted to take her measure. Having come to a conclusion, he leaned in and conspiratorially whispered:
“Fine, I’ll tell you. I know how to get out of here.”
Ethel stared. “How?”
Lysander looked like a Kneazle before a bowl of cream. “You’d like to know that, wouldn’t you?”
“Evidently. Your idiotic plans never fail to amuse me.”
“It’s not idiotic, it’s infallible.”
“Naturally.”
“So, do you want to know or not?”
Ethel felt like a headache was coming. “I do.”
A self-contented sigh left Lysander’s lips. “What do I get for telling you?”
The inkwell floated a little higher. “Not this against your forehead.”
“Not a very appealing offer.”
“Because it wasn’t an offer. Tell me now, or leave me alone.”
“Very well.” His eyes - today of a distinct turquoise colour - sparkled as he leaned a little closer. “Do what you do best - watch me.”
Wiggling his eyebrows, Lysander drew his wand and pointed it at the teacher’s desk. His lips moving in a silent incantation, the stacks of paperwork on Professor Ronen’s desk exploded up towards the ceiling, dancing in a vortex around him on their way down.
The classroom erupted in laughter, and even Ethel couldn’t help but bite back a chuckle at the sight of the red-cheeked professor trying to snatch his elusive exam papers from the air. When she turned in her seat to say something to Lysander, however, she found that he had disappeared.
Her brows drew together in a frown. It was just like Lysander to promise her a way out and then leave her behind without so much as a word. Much to her astonishment, there was a small but distinct sting of something that felt almost like disappointment.
Just as Professor Ronen had gathered his scrolls of parchment and righted his hat, the classroom door opened once more. This time, the red-haired head of Professor MacMillan, one of the Herbology teachers and head of Ravenclaw House, appeared in the doorway.
“Abraham, I will need to abduct Miss Hexley,” the teacher smiled good-heartedly. “There appear to be some pests in Greenhouse Two. They are making the worst clamour with my pots. I need Miss Hexley’s excellent hearing abilities to identify their whereabouts.”
Where Ethel had been astounded to hear Professor MacMillan request her assistance before, she now bit down on her lip hard. She stiffly rose from her seat, handed her parchment to Professor Ronen and stalked from the room.
“A pest problem, really?” she snorted as soon as the door had closed behind her.
Professor MacMillan, whose eyes had begun turning from greyish-blue to turquoise again, grinned.
“It’s intense. I swear, their presence seems to have intensified this very second.”
Ethel took a deep breath. “I will have you know that -”
She came no further because, from within the classroom, an angry cry could be heard.
“Hexley! Mercury!”
Lysander, whose once more fair hair still carried streaks of red, swallowed.
“Uh oh,” he said, laughing as he ducked his head. “Time to go, Hexley.”
Before Ethel could object, Lysander grabbed her by the wrist, dragging her behind him and away from the classroom door in which Professor Ronen had appeared. Ethel didn’t hear what he was calling after them anymore, her ears filled with the pounding of hers and Lysander’s steps on the ancient flagstone floor.
It took them about the time they needed to round two corners before their flight turned into a race. Ethel and Lysander were almost of a height, and Ethel glanced at him only briefly as she sped up to overtake him. Lysander did the same, trying to push her to the side as they skirted around corners and almost jumped down steps and stairs in vast, uncontrolled strides.
Soon, both of them were breathing heavily, and by the time they reached a spiral staircase that led both down into the dungeons and up in the direction of Gryffindor Tower, parts of Ethel’s hair had come undone, and Lysander’s cheeks were flushed a vivid red.
“You… lost… Hexley,” he panted, supporting his weight on his legs with his hands. The way he smirked at her through the strands of hair that had fallen into his face made Ethel jut her chin forward, even though her sides were stinging so badly she could hardly stand.
“You know what… they say… Mercury,” she said between two gulps of aid. “The last… shall be… first.”
“At least that way… you’ll win at least… this once.”
Ethel pushed herself off the wall she had been resting against, smoothing down the skirt of her uniform and glaring at Lysander. They stared at each other for a moment, neither of them so much as blinking. Then, Lysander ran a hand over his tousled hair before holding it out to Ethel.
“Well, that was fun.”
Ethel looked at his outstretched hand with a mixture of wariness and disgust.
“It absolutely wasn’t.”
“Just say ‘thank you’. It’s not that hard.”
“For what?” said Ethel stubbornly. “For dragging me around the castle without my consent?”
Lysander narrowed his eyes. “You’re insufferable, Hexley.”
“Takes one to know one.”
“Just so you’re aware - me helping you, that was a one-off.”
“It’d better was.”
Shrugging, Lysander turned to go. As he set foot onto the steps leading into the bowels of the castle, he looked over his shoulder.
“So, until next time?”
Rolling her eyes, Ethel turned in the opposite direction and stomped away. She was almost out of sight when she paused and looked back at Lysander, who stood exactly where she had left him.
“Until next time.”

Just realized I’ve never actually shared the text from my top surgery fundraiser here, so:
Hi, my name is Ez Charlie Tadgh. (Mostly Charlie these days, but a lot of you still know me as Ez, which is fine, too!)
I’m writing today to ask for help in affording gender affirming top surgery.
To tell you a bit more about me: I’m a recent college graduate, a queer and autistic poet, an aspiring silversmith, hobbyist photographer, and an amateur chainmail weaver. In my free time I also enjoy playing video games and watching / talking about films. I'm currently raising a leopard gecko (her name is Poppy) and taking metalworking classes when life allows. My professional life is in the sex industry, as I am a customer service and sales representative for an online adult toy store.
Deciding to make this fundraiser has been a long time coming. Finally typing out the words feels surreal… For most of my life, even before having a name for my dysphoria, I’ve concealed the shape of my body in purposely ill-fitting shirts, and worn zip-up jackets even in dangerously hot weather to disguise the shape of my chest. I've spent years purposely manipulating my posture, intentionally hunching my shoulders to make my chest appear smaller. I've avoided hugs, kept my arms crossed over my front, practiced the exact way to stand in photos, all to try and make my chest seem flatter. Even wearing a binder has offered little relief- the compression of the traditional style does not agree with my asthma, and though TransTape allows me to breathe better (it feels like a literal weight off my shoulders!) it very easily triggers my sensory issues, and sometimes makes my psoriasis flair up under my breasts.
These practices aren't sustainable. They're damaging both my mental and physical health... This body IS the house I will live in for the rest of my life, y'know? I can't keep boarding up the walls, I can't keep fantasizing about moving. I need to make real renovations, so it can stop being just a place I live, and instead truly become my HOME.
So, yeah. I am finally at the point where I know I can't do this on my own anymore. Every day the need for this procedure becomes more clear and urgent in my mind.
Trans healthcare in this country is notoriously inaccessible, confusing, and expensive. I'm lucky to live within driving distance of Dr. Hope Sherie in Charlotte, NC, a surgeon who I have seen nothing but good reviews about, and who has been recommended to me by more than one trusted friend. However, my insurance will not cover this procedure, and I am regularly seeing $10,000 quoted as the amount for top surgery at Dr. Sherie's office. I have some money saved up towards that amount already, but it is only a small piece of the complete financial puzzle.
I have my first consultation with Dr. Sherie on May 1st, and plan to post an update with exact figures after that meeting. I have already paid $100 as deposit for this consultation, and will need to pay a non-refundable fee of $1,000 to reserve my surgery date, on the day it is selected. I will have to pay the rest of the surgery cost 3 weeks before the date of the surgery. (Should I need to reschedule during that final 3 weeks, I will have to pay a second, also non-refundable $1,000 deposit.) This is not even including the cost for any prescription medications, lab fees, post-op care materials, or other surgery-necessitated garments and binders for this procedure. Should I need any revisions after the initial procedure, the minimum fee would be $1,000.
I also need to consider the fact that I will have to take some time off of work for the surgery itself and the recovery period, thus losing at minimum 2 weeks pay (that's a full paycheck for me) and will need to buy extra food and health supplies for that period.
I don't want this surgery to feel like some sort of hardship I'm having to go through. I want it to be safe, I want to feel secure during this process, I want to know I'm not going to be stressed the entire time. That's what all of this is about, anyway:
Trying to achieve a state of comfort.
Anything you can do to help me towards this goal will receive my eternal gratitude and respect. I am constantly in awe of our community, and the level of support we can provide for one another. I feel grateful for even having the chance to ask for this sort of help. Thank you. I love y'all.

hii, i was on tumblr like a year or so ago and i used to follow you. i'm now in 12th and preparing for JEE and just wanted to ask how did your entrance exams go and what tips would you like to give. you can also privately message me if you want. thankyou
oh boy another jee aspirant, good luck with it bestie. as for tips, here they are:
time management- this is the most important one out there. manage. your. time. study hard, do revision, but also find the time to chill a little bit. don't spend all your time studying, dimag kharaab ho jayega. whether it be listening to music, or drawing, or simply taking a small walk on the terrace, take small small breaks throughout your study sessions
revision- abhi 12th khatam hone ko aaya. around this time only a few chapters are remaining, both at school and at coaching so revise. brush up on 11th ke concepts, resolve questions, ask doubts to your teachers about 12th concepts that you havent understood. dont just by heart a formula, understand how and why its used, derive it yourself
mock tests and pyqs- I M P O R T A N T. kitne saval solve karoge utna practice hoga ergo utni achi tayyari. solve karne ke baad analyse karna bhi bahut bahut important hai. look at each and every question, see where you went wrong, make a note of it. keep it in mind, and attempt your next paper. coaching wale jo tests rakhte hai dont miss even a single one of them, theyre very helpful
study time table- make one and stick to it religiously. r e l i g i o u s l y. unless koi bhukamp aaya hai or sumn you need to self study for a minimum of 5 hours every day.
thats it really. just be really dedicated and stick to the plan you've made until the end.

:Did you ever fell in love and planned out a future?:
Y/n's pov
I just turned 18,
Enrolled in a demanding university program, juggling coursework, exams, and the pressures of a part-time job. Life was a whirlwind of rush and ceaseless responsibilities.
But amidst the everyday chaos and the whirlwind that was life, there was one constant, one center to my ever-spinning world there was— Min Yoongi, my haven in the storm.
Yoongi and I were both lost in the same turbulent tide of life, juggling academia and work, sacrificing sleep for last-minute revisions, him making music and me still trying to figure out warm tones and cool tones and yet, somewhere in that perpetually chaotic dance, we found each other. He became my anchor in the vast, turbulent sea of deadlines and commitments. He was the calm, soothing rhythm that pacified the incessant roar of life, always there, always bolstering me. Yoongi and I became inseparable, supporting each other through our triumphs and failures, celebrating our achievements together and consoling each other during times of defeat.
Here on this rainy afternoon, just us, nestled in the quiet corner of our favorite old, dimly lit coffee shop. The rain gently tapped on the windowpane, strumming a mesmerizing tune that came to underscore our hushed whispers of dreams and love.
His hands, calloused from hours at his part-time job, yet remarkably warm, cradled a steaming mug. "Do you remember that little house on the outskirts of town, the one with the red door and white picket fence?" he asked, a dreamy look in his eyes.
"The one near the cherry blossom park? Yes", I responded, my heart fluttering as Yoongi's smile grew wider.
"That's where we'll live. We'll have kids and maybe a rambunctious little beagle named Whiskers," he mused, the future he described sounded like a sweet lullaby. "Wahh so cheesy," I teased, taking a sip of my latte. But deep down, my heart swelled with warmth at the thought of building a future with Yoongi, a future filled with love and laughter.
When he spoke those words, they echoed in the chambers of my heart resonating with my deepest dreams and desires. He dazzled my thoughts with images of gleeful children, loud laughter echoing through our small yet charming home, the testament of our eternal bond.
Every word Yoongi breathed swirled into an exquisite symphony of dedication, hope, and unwavering love that gracefully composed our shared dreams. An image of our little safe haven, where love wasn't a fleeting emotion but a profound promise. His dreams intertwined perfectly with mine, stringing together a beautiful symphony of hope, love, and dedication. A future I yearned for, a future I saw myself living, breathing in every moment that held Yoongi's essence.
I loved him. More than words could encapsulate, more than actions could demonstrate. I saw my world mirrored in his eyes, my dreams woven intricately with his. Catching my breath felt impossible when he played a melody on his old piano, his fingers dancing on the keys, each note twining around my heart. He was etched into my soul, a vital part of me as essential as breathing. His importance in my life was as profound as the earth needs the sun, irreplaceable, an impetus I relied upon unknowingly but consistently. Every beat my heart echoed extolled his essence, it was a dance of melancholic delight, a ballad of adoration only for him. Simply said, without him, I felt incomplete. Void of life's charm.
My feelings for Yoongi were as profound and intense as the infinite universe itself. He was my world, and his eyes reflected that perfect world we were building together. His love was the melody my heart danced to, jumping at every note, swaying to the rhythm of our shared interstellar symphony. His importance
I saw a world illuminated by his love, our shared aspirations fueling my perseverance. And at that moment, nestled in the rhythmic patter of rain, in the warmth
3 years later,
Our shared dreams have begun to take shape, painting a picture of a future filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Every day, as I wake up next to Yoongi, I am reminded of the immense love and gratitude I have for him. But, something changed, Yoongi changed over the course of three years. He became distant, his eyes losing the sparkle that once ignited my soul.
Our once harmonious symphony of love now played discordant notes, leaving me confused and longing for the connection we once had. Over the years, as we grew closer and shared our hopes and dreams, our love flourished, creating a bond that seemed unbreakable. However, as time went on, a subtle shift occurred, and our once inseparable hearts grew apart. I found myself grappling with a mix of emotions - hurt, confusion, and a desperate longing to bring back the love we once had.I yearned to understand what had caused this change in Yoongi, to unravel the layers of unspoken words and unexpressed feelings that had built a wall between us.
My heart pounded relentlessly against my rib cage as I walked towards Yoongi in the dimly-lit studio. It was evident that he was engrossed in his work, the tapping of his fingers on the laptop keyboard resonant in the otherwise silent studio. His brows furrowed in concentration as he leaned closer to the screen, uncaring of anything outside the realm of his music.
"Yoongi," I called softly, trying to break through his intense focus. My voice seemed to startle him, causing his fingers to pause and his gaze to dart nervously to me.
"What are you doing here, Y/n?" His words were terse; his tone colder than the room's chilly air. His friendly demeanor seemed to have dissolved, replaced by a harsh demeanour I barely recognised. His icy response lanced my heart.
"I... I brought you dinner," I stuttered out, extending the tiffin box I had brought with me. I forced out a smile, thinly veiled by my shock at his unexpected harshness.
"I didn't ask for it," he scoffed, eyes darting back to his laptop screen, his fingers resuming their rhythmic dance on the keys. His dismissive remark hit me hard, the falling sting painful and suffocating.
"Yoongi, what has gotten..."
"Can't you understand, Y/n? I'm busy!" He snapped, not bothering to look at me, his attention solely focused on his work.
His harsh words, his cold indifference were debilitating. A lump formed in my throat, choking me as I grappled to comprehend his behavior. The caring Yoongi I knew seemed lost, replaced by this stranger whose words felt more frigid than comfort.
Silently, I left the tiffin on a nearby table and exited the room, leaving Yoongi with his work and my heart with a sharp pain that refused to subside. I couldn't shake off the bitter tang of rejection and the unfamiliar iciness from Yoongi's words. This sudden change in Yoongi, it was alien and unsettling. It was a painful contrast to the warm, loving relationship we once shared and cherished.
we were lost...
Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, and yet the distance between Yoongi and me only seemed to widen. There was a palpable tension whenever we were in the same room together, our interactions reduced to mere formalities and awkward silences. I found solace in my work as a makeup artist, throwing myself into the bustling world of fashion and beauty to escape the heartache that plagued me every time I saw Yoongi. However there was someone who would keep me distracted, Park Jimin.
As I stepped onto the set, I was immediately pulled into the whirlwind of lights, clothes, and laughter that was a photo shoot. And right in the middle of it all, like the eye of a hurricane, stood Park Jimin, mischief sparkling in his eyes.
"Just keep watching," he assured his fellow bandmates, before launching himself across the set in a comically exaggerated fall. A chorus of laughter rang through the studio, mine being the most resonant of all.
"Jimin, you're like a two-year-old on a sugar high! Calm down!" I scolded, trying to keep a straight face.
He simply shrugged innocently, his giggles infecting everyone around us with merry laughter. During our break, he managed to sneak up behind the photographer and perfectly mimic his serious gaze and exaggerated hand gestures.
"I think we need to capture the... essence of the soul!" Jimin pronounced, in a highfalutin tone, causing another round of chuckles.
Shaking my head, I tried to feign exasperation. "You're impossible."
His grin widened. "But you're still laughing."
Throughout the day, Jimin's playful pranks tested my patience and my work ethic. When I opened my makeup kit to find my high-quality brushes replaced with oversized, novelty powder puffs, I almost lost it.
"Jimin!" I yelled, holding up one of the ridiculous tools.
"Did I do that?" he responded, grinning ear-to-ear, a look of faux guilt in his eyes.
Despite his antics, I couldn't help but be drawn toward this captivating, hilariously entertaining character. Moments of quiet intensity, when he was lost in a song or a dance routine, added richness to his goofball persona and touched my heart in a way I didn't see coming.
Who would have thought that I'd find comfort in this chaos, that his contagious laughter and silly pranks would end up being my haven amidst the storm. And maybe, just maybe, the sudden flutter in my heart whenever he smiled my way was a sign that something was beginning to change.
Maybe coming back wasn't a bad idea...
to be continued...

Challenges faced by UPSC aspirants
In India having a government job guarantees you the utmost prestige in your family. And it is truly justified as government exams are one of the hardest exams to crack. It needs:
High level of self-discipline
Great resilience power
Years of hard work
Good general awareness
A zeal to contribute towards the nation
Let us see what are the various challenges an UPSC aspirant faces while preparing for the exam.
Getting started: UPSC is no child’s play. There are so many options and so many things to take care of. Where to start, when to start and how to start? So many questions pop in mind at once. Some students spend a lot of time in planning, procrastinating it. While others do not plan enough and thus get confused on later stage.
Before taking a long dive in the ocean called UPSC, students should give a fair enough time to planning on how they going to start preparing. They should make a road map covering important factors like:
How early should they start preparing? The time needed for preparation varies person to person. It depends on everyone’s level of experience and situations. Every aspirant should firstly evaluate their current level of knowledge.
Will they be taking coaching? There are a lot of coaching options available nowadays, both online and offline. One should give it a great thought about which mode would be best for them as both have its own pros and cons.
2.Increasing competition: With significant rise in awareness and access to facilities, number of aspirants have been increasing day by day.  Reportedly, the count of students who apply for a UPSC exam has rose from 3 lakhs (approximately) to 11 lakhs (approximately) while the number of vacancies stands at a total of 1105. This increases competition.
3.Loads of Syllabus: UPSC exam tests your knowledge about every subject possible. It tests your knowledge about History, Geography, Economics, Political state of the country, Mathematics and much more. It becomes hectic to complete all on time.
It will require you to adapt a holistic approach and revise everything for at least 2 times.
4. Facing Family and societal pressure: As soon as people get to know that someone is preparing for UPSC exam, it automatically raises their expectations of that person. It does earn you a lot of respect but with that respect also comes a lot of pressure. Pressure of cracking the UPSC exam.
At times like this even motivating words can feel very overwhelming. Students should only focus on their plan and work towards achieving it. They should focus on doing better than yesterday.
One of the biggest challenges that a student faces is non availability of books in the market. An UPSC aspirant already has so many things to take care of so I have found an app that will take care of all your book related needs.
Nogozo ! Nogozo is an online bookstore. It is an all-in-one place where you can BUY, SELL, RENT books.

How Can I Balance UPSC Preparation with Work or Studies?
Tumblr media
Balancing UPSC preparation with work or studies is a common challenge faced by many aspirants. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam requires a significant investment of time and effort, and managing this alongside other commitments can feel overwhelming. However, with effective strategies and the right resources, you can successfully juggle your responsibilities while preparing for the UPSC exam. Here are some tips to help you strike that balance.
1) Create a Structured Study Plan
A well-structured study plan is the foundation of effective time management. Start by assessing your daily schedule to identify pockets of time that can be dedicated to UPSC preparation. Create a timetable that includes specific study hours while accommodating your work or study commitments. Prioritize your tasks and set achievable goals for each day to maintain focus and motivation.
2) Utilize UPSC Online Coaching
Enrolling in UPSC online coaching can significantly enhance your preparation while fitting into your busy schedule. Online coaching offers flexibility, allowing you to attend classes at your convenience. This means you can study during your free hours, such as early mornings, evenings, or weekends. Many platforms provide recorded sessions, enabling you to revisit lectures whenever you need clarification on complex topics.
3) Incorporate Smart Study Techniques
Effective study techniques can help you maximize your learning in limited time. Focus on active learning methods such as summarizing, note-taking, and practicing past papers. Utilize flashcards for quick revisions and concept retention. These techniques can help you grasp essential concepts without needing long hours of study.
4) Stay Consistent and Motivated
Consistency is key when balancing UPSC preparation with other responsibilities. Aim to dedicate at least a few hours each day to your studies, even if it’s just 30 minutes. Staying motivated is crucial, so remind yourself of your goals and the reasons you aspire to join the civil services. Engaging in study groups or online forums can provide a sense of community and motivation from fellow aspirants.
5) Practice Time Management
Effective time management is vital for balancing multiple commitments. Use tools like planners or digital calendars to keep track of deadlines, work schedules, and study goals. Prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance. This organized approach will help you manage your time better, reducing stress and ensuring that you remain focused on your UPSC preparation.
6) Take Care of Your Well-Being
Don’t forget to prioritize your physical and mental well-being. Incorporate regular breaks, exercise, and relaxation techniques into your routine. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will help you stay energized and focused, making it easier to balance your UPSC preparation with work or studies.
In conclusion, balancing UPSC preparation with work or studies is challenging but achievable with the right strategies. By creating a structured study plan, utilizing UPSC online coaching, and practicing effective time management, you can make steady progress towards your goal of becoming a civil servant. Stay consistent, motivated, and focused and you’ll be well on your way to success!

1. Assess Your Current Performance
Before you can improve, it's essential to understand where you currently stand.
Analyze Mock Tests: Take stock of your recent mock tests. Determine the subjects or topics in which you received low scores. Were they conceptual questions, numerical problems, or application-based?
Identify Patterns: Look for recurring mistakes—are you struggling with time management, or do you find certain question types particularly challenging?
2. Set Clear and Achievable Goals
Once you know your weaknesses, set specific goals to work towards:
Break It Down: Instead of vague goals like "I want to do better," aim for specific targets like "I want to score 20 more marks in Mathematics."
Create Milestones: Set short-term goals for each week or month. Celebrate small victories to maintain motivation.
3. Revise Your Study Plan
A structured study plan can significantly impact your preparation:
Balance Your Subjects: Allocate time for each subject based on your comfort level and understanding. If Physics is your weak spot, dedicate extra hours to it.

How to Prepare for the IAS Prelims and Mains Simultaneously
Tumblr media
Preparing for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) examination is a challenging yet rewarding journey. For many aspirants, the biggest question is how to balance preparation for both the Prelims and Mains simultaneously. This guide aims to provide you with effective strategies, tips, and resources to ensure a well-rounded preparation approach, maximizing your chances of success.
Understanding the IAS Examination Structure
Before diving into preparation strategies, it’s essential to understand the structure of the IAS exam. The IAS examination comprises three stages:
Preliminary Examination (Prelims): This is an objective-type exam consisting of two papers – General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II (CSAT). It tests your knowledge of current affairs, history, geography, polity, economy, and general mental ability.
Main Examination (Mains): This consists of nine papers, including four General Studies papers, one essay paper, and two optional subject papers. The Mains exam is descriptive in nature and tests your analytical and writing skills.
Personality Test (Interview): The final stage is the personality test, which assesses your overall personality, communication skills, and suitability for a career in civil services.
With this understanding, let's explore how to prepare effectively for both the Prelims and Mains simultaneously.
Create a Comprehensive Study Plan
1. Set Clear Goals and Timelines
Creating a structured study plan is crucial. Start by outlining your goals for both the Prelims and Mains. Allocate specific timelines for each topic, ensuring that you cover all areas. Make sure to integrate both Prelims and Mains topics into your daily study schedule.
2. Divide Your Time Wisely
When preparing for two different formats, time management becomes essential. Dedicate certain days for Prelims preparation, focusing on objective questions and practice tests. On alternate days, focus on Mains preparation, which includes writing practice, essay preparation, and understanding the syllabus for General Studies and your optional subject.
3. Weekly and Monthly Reviews
Regular reviews are vital to gauge your progress. Set aside time each week to assess what you've learned and identify areas needing more focus. Monthly assessments can help in adjusting your study plan based on your performance in mock tests and practice papers.
Focus on Integrated Study Materials
1. Select the Right Resources
Choosing the best resources is key to effective preparation. Opt for comprehensive books and study materials that cover both Prelims and Mains syllabi. Look for books that are recommended by top IAS academies. For example, the best IAS academy in Coimbatore often suggests specific titles and study materials tailored for both Prelims and Mains.
2. Current Affairs and News Analysis
Current affairs play a significant role in both Prelims and Mains. Use online platforms, newspapers, and magazines to stay updated. Maintain a separate notebook for current affairs, noting key points that could be useful for both exams. This integrated approach will save time and enhance your retention.
3. Practice Integrated Writing Skills
For the Mains exam, strong writing skills are essential. Regularly practice writing essays, answers to General Studies questions, and analytical essays on current issues. Focus on structuring your answers clearly and concisely. You can incorporate current affairs into your writing to demonstrate your understanding and application of knowledge.
Emphasize Revision Techniques
1. Regular Revision of Key Concepts
Revision is crucial for both Prelims and Mains. Allocate time for revising concepts and topics you've already studied. Use flashcards, summaries, and mind maps to reinforce learning. This is especially helpful for retaining factual information required for the Prelims.
2. Mock Tests for Prelims
Take regular mock tests to familiarize yourself with the exam format and question types. The best IAS academy in Coimbatore often conducts mock tests that mimic real exam conditions. Analyze your performance to identify weaknesses and adjust your study plan accordingly.
3. Writing Practice for Mains
Practice writing daily. Set a timer and write answers to previous year’s questions or topics from the syllabus. This helps in improving your speed and efficiency, which is crucial during the Mains exam.
Join a Good Coaching Institute
1. Importance of Coaching
Joining a coaching institute can provide structure and support in your preparation. The best IAS academy in Coimbatore offers comprehensive courses that cover both Prelims and Mains, ensuring that you receive guidance on various subjects and access to experienced faculty.
2. Group Study Sessions
Participate in group study sessions with peers from your coaching institute. This fosters a collaborative learning environment, allowing you to exchange ideas and clarify doubts. Group discussions also help in retaining information and improving your analytical skills.
Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle
1. Physical Well-Being
A healthy body leads to a productive mind. Ensure you engage in regular physical activities like jogging, yoga, or gym workouts. This not only keeps you fit but also helps relieve stress during intense preparation phases.
2. Mental Health Awareness
Mental well-being is equally important. Take breaks when needed, practice mindfulness, and engage in activities that you enjoy. This balance will enhance your focus and productivity during your study hours.
Utilize Online Resources and Communities
1. Leverage Technology for Learning
Use online platforms, webinars, and resources to enhance your learning. Many renowned IAS academies offer free resources and videos that can complement your preparation.
