in college suzie had helped hold a study that proved yoga can approve executive functions, brain health, memory, and overall general brain functions. ever since then, it was part of suzie’s morning routine to do yoga, and the only place she was able to find on the hotel computer was the ymca. at the near crack of dawn, she woke up, drove her rental to the y, and plopped a borrowed mat down right in the front of the classroom. it wasn’t the most lifechanging yoga class she’d ever been too, but the company was nice. and funny. especially the girl next to her. while suzie had a big day of investigating planned, she still cornered the girl after class, coming on alarmingly strong. “hey, i’m suzie! we should get breakfast together!”  suzie scanned her expression and quickly realized she should probably add a little more context, “i thought you were actually really funny during the class, people at these things usually take themselves so seriously.” speaking of serious things, suzie had an excellent memory, and didn’t recognize this girl from the funeral. which was nice, because she didn’t have to be conscience of someone’s grief. figuring that was sufficient enough explanation, she reiterated, “so? breakfast?”

It wasn't surprising to have a blast from the past in a town as 'homey' as Tonopah (homey, of course, being another word for small, but at least one that made Ginny feel better about the fact that she'd chosen to live out her adult life in that small town), but what was surprising about the run in she had earlier was the fact that it was with none other than Cassie Donovan. The Cassie. The one person she really never expected to see back in town and yet, there she was, causing Ginny's chest to ache without so much as lifting a finger. The blonde heard a little bit here and there about the woman through her brother, but God knows how true the details were after going through the pipeline. Not knowing if they were true or not, not feeling like she knew anything the woman had been up to since they last saw each other in high school, was the push she needed to immediately agree to meet Cassie at the bleachers of the old high school football field.

There was a second of hesitation as she checked her watch, wondering if the other woman would actually show, before she heard the telltale footsteps of company. There was a subconscious quirk of her lips, almost an impatient smile if you squinted hard enough, and she stood from her seat on the chilled medal of the bleachers to greet the other with a teasing, "For a second there, I thought you weren't going to show."

as much as she found a quiet comfort and a sense of gratitude in the way the lady of ninestars had attempted to make her feel less embarrassed in ruining the very point of this evening, naelys was unable to admit the fact she had not actually managed to write anything on her sunwheel yet. there was a quill and ink pot in the leather pouch she had strung over her shoulder, but she had been waiting to write her thoughts down on the riverbed - and now that was all gone.

she wordlessly swung the leather pouch back in place, beginning to take a few steps forward and looking back for ginny to catch up with her. the lady of ninestars shook her head slightly, and naelys offered nothing but a slight apologetic look, no doubt overthinking the small motion in her own mind. as she tended to make everything in her mind far bigger than it actually was.

ginny seemed to always know how to carry herself, she knew how to navigate matters and often talked herself into every conversation even if she were not in it. more often than not naelys had been on the side of the conversation, there to nod and say hello for when ginny eventually introduced her. that had happened a lot this riverlands festival. they began walking down the riverside path, with nellie reaching down to pick up a candled lantern that was no doubt supposed to stay in place. she would carry it, like a lady with a lamp.

"you know a lot of people, ginny. how?"

It happened in a flash.

Naelys stepped towards Ginevra, lips parted to speak. Then, there was a splash before a sun wheel was quickly carried down the stream. An expression of shock crossed Ginny's features, wide eyed, mouth opened, before she caught herself and lifted a hand to cover the breathy giggle that threatened to escape.

Skin around her eyes crinkling with her wide grin, Ginevra gave a small shake of her head.

"Well," she spoke, "I suppose yours was already released. It will simply have a headstart." The rest of the crowd had moved a little further ahead of them already. Smiling at her friend, Ginny gave a small nod in the same direction. "Come, let's follow the others."

Getting immersed in my first proper longfic for the fandom again, The Darkness Within, I went and changed my Gryffindor MC up a little. Her backstory/my headcanons for her are still somewhat the same, she just looks a little different. (Thank goodness for mods!) (That fic portrays an older version of her, where she's 21/23, and it's NSFW! Just FYI!)

Yes, she is basically Ginny Weasley with her twin brothers' birth date, I was very creative when naming and creating her XD (belette is also the French word for weasel, so, there's that) Rosier was/is a pure-blood family originating in France in HP canon, but I HC that those relatives come from the Weasley side. And even though she is related to Garreth and Prof Weasley, it is very distant and they might not know about it due to their vast family tree and her name change (and her mother's influence, the Rosiers were much stricter and Darker and I can imagine her mother had cut the ties to her husband's family because she didn't think as open as the Weasleys did).

This had her quirking her brows, amusement creeping onto her features. She realized something, then. "I assume my introduction of myself was a bit needless. Am I wrong? You knew who I was."

Everything about the woman gave away the regal demeanor most of the Vale folk donned even without royal titles to their name. Usually, he found that sort of poise something to be admired only for a time, before finding it much too fake after enough exposure to it. But the lady's pretty eyes and pretty smile were enough to keep him resolute to dance with her, and possibly be sighted by her brother while doing so.

when I started shipping it if I did: Ha, never. I don't ship Drarry at all.

my thoughts: Woof. Okay. There are many reasons I can't see this ship sailing. We'll start with Harry. I don't really care about his sexuality, or Draco's, for that matter, so I'll leave that aside for now. Harry needs to be with someone he respects and values, someone he's comfortable with, and someone he can be himself around. That leaves his closest friends. We know he sees Hermione as a sister and the two people he does show attraction to are Cho and Ginny, Quidditch players with pretty hair. Ginny makes the most sense for Harry, considering all he's gone through. Draco next. Draco, though he 'grows up' to not want to instill the same pureblood mania into his son, is a pureblood at heart. He still canonically marries a pureblood and the only romance we see is with Pansy, a fellow pureblood. Draco's not going to be slumming around with a half-blood or Muggleborn. In my mind, you'd have to do some gymnastics to get Draco willing to be with someone other than a pureblood. Now, that's not to say he can't be attracted to someone who isn't a pureblood. I could easily see Draco having a crush on any number of people, but at the end of the day he's a coward and makes the best decisions for himself and his family. That will not involve dating or being with anyone other than a pureblood, no matter what his 'growing up' ideals are. If we tried to put them together, it would have to be way later in life, Ginny would have to be out of the picture (and I don't like killing off or berating or bashing characters to make a ship sail), so it's just highly unlikely, if not impossible that this ship sail.

What makes me happy about them: I mean, it's classic enemies to lovers, but I'm not especially fond of that trope. It would probably explain why Jily makes me so apathetic.

What makes me sad about them: Nothing, lol. Harry and Draco are two different people.

things done in fanfic that annoys me: broadly speaking, if any characters have to be bashed for a ship to sail. I don't see or ship Drarry at all but if you've got to bash Ginny and the Weasleys to make it happen, I'm 100000% less interested.

things I look for in fanfic: not Drarry. If I'm reading a work with Harry and there's a romantic pairing, Hinny has to be endgame. I don't care as strongly about Romione, I can take or leave them together, but there are a few ships that I'm very set on as being endgame.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Draco & Astoria, Harry & Ginny. That's how it works in my mind.

My happily ever after for them: LOL okay so I do like the idea of them being in-laws, but I love the idea of Ron and Draco as inlaws more than Harry and Draco.

Least Favorite character: The Marauders. This is more an issue with Rowling's writing, setting them up as shining figures for Harry (except for quiet one-dimensional Wormtail) but then muddling with actions of straight up harrassement and bullying, allowing bullying to happen, later neglectful and selfish behavior. the narrative, even outside Harry's perspective, tries to characterize them as still shining figures, when I think so each individually did makes it so weird how highly every character around them speaks of them. Especially James but maybe he's your typical jock who gets away with harassment, even of his love interest, and the narrative doesn't adress that. *shrugs*

a random thought: Ok, but since when does run know that Malfoy owns a Hand of Glory? He brings it up in the Halfblood Prince, and I couldn't find any indication in the text that Draco actually bought it, let alone letting Ron know that he owns one?

An unpopular opinion: There's a lot of talk how the movies screwed up Ron although I feel up from Order of the Phoenix, Rowling gave Hermoine the emotional intelligence Ron actually had, lowering his intelligence, and basically didn't know how to involve him properly in the plot anymore. Don't get me wrong, I like Hermoine but I have the impression that the books were too influenced by the movie tweaks of making her more charismatic on top of being brilliant and hardworking. Not that becoming more socially competent shouldn't be a goal for her, social inaptness was her biggest flaw, yet that quality was stripped form Ron.

When I started shipping them: Roughly after reading ASOS, at Catelyn clutching the flayed skin of Theon's finger.

My thoughts: It's all about the angst, the friendship that was so genuine, Robb's fatal decision as a king to put his trust in his only friend, the deep, deep regret, the underlying unhappiness of Theon muddling the water between them....

What makes me happy about them: Robb and Theon both actually had no friends in their age. For Theon feeling so isolated, who actually never had a warm home or someone to comfort him except for Dagmer, there was Robb. Someone with whom Theon would actually like to talk about the Iron Islands and personal stories, and one of the few people with whom Robb could be himself.

What makes me sad about them: "Where was I? I should have been with him? I should have died with him."

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: The white washing of Robb's personality. Whereas Theon can be a wreck, Robb is always the eternal, spotless sunshine as in every bland wishfullfillment story. Basically Robb is there to fix Theon.

Things I look for in fanfic: Angst! Robb with a fleshed out personality!

My wishlist: Just for the angst: Theon meets Rickon when he's grown up and Theon is shaken to the bone how similar Rickon looks to Robb. Or worse: If Theon was to marry Sansa, the fact of them looking similiar to wach other leads to unsettling projections on her.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Robb was to marry Alys Karstark who by personality probably would've been good to contrast with Robb's domineering streak and moody moments. The match made in hell, serving Theon's MILF interest in the worst way, Theon and Cersei lives rent free in the back of my mind. No actually, Theon marrying Sansa could've been a likely outcome to secure peace the North and the Iron Islands. (Although, for my dear girl's sake, I hope Theon gains some empathy for women before they ever get married.)

My happily ever after for them: Robb had never sent Theon away, the Red Wedding couldn't have been orchestrated. Even after the Iron Born raid the Northern shore (as it is implied at Theon's arrival, Balon already readied vessels, no matter if Theon lived or not), Theon and Asha can secretly create a treaty overruling Balon's decreet and gain the Iron fleet for the support of the North. Even though Robb and Theon each are to marry a woman, they'd come together as often as they can.

How I feel about this character: He's so funny. Before he was the sheepish, barely noticed archivist of the trio, and at some point he collected girlfriends like Ü-eggs and charms every girl they need to talk to for investigations. Like all the three ???, I like him.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: None really, although the episodes with the evil psychiatrist give me strong Mrs. Robinson associations.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: His father. They seem to be on really great terms by the way the way Bob wants to follow him into his journalism career, and is constantly supported by his father during research.

My unpopular opinion about this character: He has a lot of unnoticed qualities which may not be prominently noticed yet flesh out the trio's dynamic quiet nicely. If it wasn't for the amazing dynamic between the voice actors, on paper Bob would've had remained incredibly unnoticable from all the three. It's a fun idea of Fröhlich's to turn him into the one with common sense whereas both Justus and Peter tend to have some sleeping criminal energy in them. (Justus is ready to do a lot of things "for science", Peter has no concept of neither property law nor unpicked locks.) He also adds a lot of human element when talking to clients which Justus and Peter both tend to neglect.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: In one episode his VW beetle gets badly damaged. I demand confirmation of an old timer loving mechanic fixing up the poor thing!

Favorite friendship for this character: Morton, Justus, and Peter, obviously

There is this fic called Dawn by Wynnebat that someone in reddit recommended to me a while back. I enjoyed it so much that I looked for more fics and pretty much just ended up wading into the treasure trove XD.

my thoughts:

I really enjoy them as an enemies to lover ship! Many of the fics there have amazing plot, and I simply can't resist a magnificent slowburn. It's dramione but gay, and I enjoy snarky, feminine Pansy with such a massive personality so much more than quiet and stoic Dramione!Draco. Pansy in fics is just so fun to read!

What makes me happy about them:

Enjoyable explorations of bigotry, forgiveness, and growth! I also enjoy the sheer gayness of the ship XD

What makes me sad about them:

Not much actually! This is a very fanon ship to me, so I just pick the things I like!

things done in fanfic that annoys me:

I really wish more people would lean into Pansy's privilege and bigotry! The treatment of those aspects of her character are markedly better than say most Dramione fics, but I can't help but wish for more.

I would really love to one day find a fic where Pansy does not have an abusive background. It always leaves me with a sense that Pansy was only bigoted because her parents "forced" her to be - and that she, unlike them, held an inherent goodness that only had to be given space to shine through. I think I would enjoy so much more a story that treated bigotry as something she greatly benefited from and learned from people she loves deeply. I would love a deconstruction of what that means as she grows out of these.

things I look for in fanfic:

Great plots, especially case fics! Great Hermione characterization, and well done bigotry unlearning arcs for Pansy! I love a great slowburn between them too where all these feelings are just slowly bubbling.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: 

For Pansy, a pairing with Draco sounds interesting. I love exploring the idea of a post-war relationship where the Pansy who tried to give Harry up to save herself meets with the Draco who spent so long housing Lord Voldemort. They could be a really interesting study along the theme of self-preservation.

For Hermione, I think it's quite obvious that I'm a multishipper XD. I will take any ship really for as long as it explores Hermione in an interesting manner. My personal favorite ships though are with Harry, Fleur, Viktor, and (much more recent) Ginny! I love exploring various aspects of Hermione's character with all these people!

My happily ever after for them:

I love the idea of Hermione Granger as Minister for Magic with Pansy as her first lady, and the two of them taking the world by the storm. I enjoy imagining the two of them making their rounds in Ministry galas and politicking together, and then coming home together to enjoy an intimate and relaxing night with each other.

I love the idea of them enjoying long, luxurious bubble baths especially after a hard day's work.

Logan had kept the girl occupied all day. Which was also part of the reason he had been too exhausted to make a proper dinner for them before dropping her off. So, he wasn't totally surprised when Ellie went lights out rather quickly. He peered at her from where he stood, grinning still as he stuffed his hands inside his pockets. "Yeah, we kept pretty active all day too so I think that might have helped tire her out despite the potential sugar rush." A hand wiped over his face, fingers dancing against his scruff as he noted her comfortable with her wine. "Maybe the ice cream will kick in over night and she'll be crazy all day for you tomorrow." He added, with a small laugh though he was sure he'd hear about that then. "So, I guess I'll head out and let you rest up, yeah?"

Now all there was to do was WAIT. Ginny hesitated a moment, allowing them to get down the HALL - just in case the girl changed her mind - before reaching back over for her wine. With it once more in hand, she allowed her mind to WANDER as she was left alone with her thoughts. Normally she'd be THANKFUL for this moment of peace, but right now? Well her ego was a little bruised, she couldn't lie. So Ginny wasn't finding as much HAPPINESS in the moment that she probably could. Still, Ellie was being well taken care of by the man she ADORED the most, so the red head wouldn't protest. Not outwardly anyways, just in her own head. Lips hovered around the rim of her glass for a few moments as that thought sunk in and with it decided, she moved on. Trying at least to push that STING away and just SIT there until he emerged from the girls' room. Once he did, eyes flickered up to meet his own and with a small SMIRK pulled against pink lips, she resisted the urge to roll her eyes. No matter how PLAYFUL they would have been. She couldn't reward the bad behavior just because it had ended up alright. That didn't mean she had to IGNORE it altogether though of course. ❝Just be GLAD. I've been in there for almost two hours trying to get her down before, and that was WITHOUT ice cream in her system.❞
