I WILL KNOCK YOU (2022, THAILAND)
Noey and His Best Friend Thiw and The Watphlu Gang
Even if they were involved in violence the friendship Noey experienced with his self titled gang was unbreakable even when Noey broke it.
At Thi's urging for Noey not to be a thug and with the stabbing of Auntie Tim, Noey ended his gang.
But when Thi's parents made Noey feel he wasn't good enough for their son. Noey reluctantly broke Thi's heart.
When Noey went to apologize to Thiw (TANAPAK JONGJAOPHAR aka OHM) he readily accepted.
Thiw stood by Noey as he pursued Pam even though she wasn't interested. And when Noey fell for his college tutor (a guy) though stunned Thiw stood by his best friend as he pursued his tutor. That's a true friend.

Aww... I'm so gonna miss I Will Knock You. The series didn't have very well known actors, neither did it come from popular production house so, I hadn't expected much, but it got me hooked from the very first ep.
It's unique way of story telling, thug Noey, with that peculiar hairstyle, loving vintage style, nerd Thi and every other character were interesting!
It gave me such a good laugh from the very beginning but also made me emotional in latter ep.
They've captured many beautiful places throughout the series, however the scenery in last ep were awesome.
The friendship among the Watphlu gang was pretty strong, true friends.

Imagine that you're Pam. You're a girl student, tiny and cute. And you see Noey Watphlu with his gang. Scary faces and weapons.

I Will Knock You Episode Six D/s point outs
Tumblr media
We start off the episode seeing Noey fixing Thi's hair, and we see that chin hold again. Everyone who has read my previous reviews knows how the chin hold is serious Dom behavior.
I'm with @pharawee that slow blink Noey does is everything. It's like he is taking a picture. I also find it amusing that Thi just got Noey's last name, but we're all going to act like it's because he is joining the gang. Do the other guys go around using watphlu? Hmm.
I love this next part so much. Okay so Thi turns around to leave and Noey asks if he is going to get his helmet. He tells him that he'll give him two minutes "If you're late, I won't wait on you.", which Thi is like, no way I can be done in two minutes. Sorry! Better go ahead. The next words out of Noey's mouth are so Dom. "Hey, I won't wait, but I'll make sure you get on my ride. I'll hurt you." I know what you guys are thinking. He's going back to bullying. Nah, he is showing his hard line. Notice, he even laughs at Thi. He knew what Thi was up to, so he became harsher.
Notice on the bike that he is once again 100% okay with Thi holding onto him. Also telling him that he was lucky he didn't have class, because he would have just made him skip it. Do you hear the amount of confidence. He is fully aware that he can make Thi, skip class.
They get to the temple and Noey is upset that they are late considering he gave him a wake-up call. We are seeing Dom responsibilities being taken up by Noey. He knew he wanted to take Thi somewhere, so he made sure to notify him and in a good amount of time. He wasn't inconsiderate. Noey also reaches over to help Thi out of his helmet. We see some back and forth of commands. No punishment as yet, Noey is trying to figure out what is going on first. He just forces him physically to do what he wants. "Do I have to surrender to you on everything?" Okay so previous review I talk about how complex it can be when people just fall into a D/s relationship. Some people are just born this way, and they meet each other early before they even realize they are Dom or sub. Then it's a complex navigation of the relationship without guidance.
Noey is finding out that Thi isn't worth shit if he hasn't eaten breakfast. Let's see if he remembers this tidbit because a good Dom would. I would also show more leniency if I knew this was an issue. Some people have a very hard time regulating their mood when hungry. I have been known to tell my husband and daughters to shut up and not say another word until they've eaten something.
This is such a fucking Dom moment. He's showing he understands. He'll feed Thi after he has completed what he's done. Noey takes control of his face and tells him what he wants. Then says, "Just do as I say. So you won't be in trouble." This is so fucking Dom! It literally can be nothing else! He is saying, I understand, but you will do as I say. It's soft and dominant, it's so well done.
The dancing commentary between them killed me. "No, I don't want to dance. I'm not good at it." "I'll teach you. I'm not good at studying, but you still want me to study" "Move your arms and legs now!" The frustration mounting as Thi won't dance. "Harder! Stop being shy!" He's realizing that Thi will need something to push him past the shyness. "If you don't do it. I will just keep you walking around here. You can't go anywhere" So Thi dances. See how Noey follows up with the praise. He doesn't just punish, he praises and rewards when Thi does well. That's not bully mentality, you guys, and that's not gang leader mentality, because Noey isn't praising anyone else.
Some temple flirting. Noey tells him to just pay attention, and Thi basically says, "Yes, captain." That's so D/s right there. When Thi is getting pushed around, Noey steadies him. Noey protects Thi when it's clear that Thi is just getting knocked around, but it's very much in Sadist style. Still romantic in my opinion. Pay attention to the conversation between his followers and the difference on how he treats them vs Thi. He also describes Sadist flirting to a Tee.
"I'll just buy a new slide." "You didn't even try to find it." "We tried already. But we can't find it anywhere." "You think money can solve problems again?" "Huh, what do you mean by again." "Like the lotus! My lotus!" "Don't you remember?" Then he flicks him as punishment for not remembering. Asking Thi if he wants more when he says it hurts. Only nodding when Thi assures him he remembers. Now this whole conversations talks to something much deeper. What do you think Noey is really saying? What is he trying to teach Thi? You don't value what you don't work for, and you can't buy love.
The whole fight over the sandals is very D/s. The whole fucking thing. Then we have more Sadist flirting when he tells them it's to keep the shoes from being stolen. The girl totally knows what's up. Then they get to the restaurant and it's Thi sitting with Noey. Not one of the other members. Noey pretty much orders for him and tells him to just eat. He tells him to go ahead and order another because he's taken note of how Thi is. There is some name-calling, but notice he Thi isn't bothered. He's only been bothered once and since then, Noey hasn't used it.
Now we get to the point with the picture above. I know it looks scary and harsh but honestly if you asked the subs who are watching, they don't see it that way. Think of this as a backward cage. He doesn't push him back but pulls him forward, it's no less effective though. He is saying, "Pay the fuck attention to me and take heed what I'm saying, and don't make this mistake again." The other arm hasn't come up. There is absolutely no threat of him being hit. It looks scary and harsh, but a D/s relationship is very intense.
Alright, so Noey wants Thi to do his homework. He has resorted back to bully because this for sure is not Dom and Thi puts his hard no limit down. See guys. He knows how to say no, what's more he is aware that he can say no to Noey it's just that he really doesn't want to. I find it very interesting that Noey tried to teach Thi that, You don't value what you don't work for, and then tries to pay him to do his homework. That tells you how little value he finds school. Thi is genuinely putting down a hard no. Noey wants to know why. He isn't being a jerk there, he needs to understand why Thi is saying no. He needs to understand the thought process behind it. Noey says, "You're good at beating around the bush." and then he smiles at Thi. He wanted Thi to speak up for himself.
Now, that doesn't mean he doesn't want a sub. It means he doesn't want a doormat. Two different things.
Alright, that's it for this episode! Hope you guys enjoyed.

axelle judges bl shows > I Will Knock You
summary: Thi the awkward tutor finds his life transformed when he starts running into Noey, a high school gangster who seems to take a liking to him.
where to watch: dramacool
grade: 8,5/10
pros:
- while the cinematography is nothing to write home about, the world-building is so fucking good! the vintage, small town vibes of the show really contribute to making it stand out, even with a more basic plot.
- the characters are so fucking fun, man. they鈥檙e all incredibly cartoonish but work so well in the context of this series. my fave is of course noey bc he reminds me so much of my favorite character of all time khai from theory of love, but even thiw, the rest of the watphlu gang, nidnoi & auntie tim are so fucking fun to witness and make the world of the show so much more vibrant and entertaining.
- the writing is actually quite fucking solid? like it鈥檚 crazy bc not that much happens in this show at all, yet it stays entertaining till the very end? the script also takes care of its side characters well, and everyone has a satisfying story & ending imo.
- the acting is just okay except for noey & his mom who SLAYED. I鈥檝e been saying noey鈥檚 actor will go very far & I truly believe it bc he managed to make noey, once again a very cartoonish character, feel grounded in reality, & the emotional scenes were amazing!
- overall this is just such a campy, feel good show. it has a vibe different from any other show I鈥檝e watched & is not afraid to be silly, but is also mostly about noey growing up & especially evolving as a person. I loved the over the top nature of this show & I loved its overall message, and I had the MOST fun watching this :)
cons:
- thi is quite hard to like for the first half of the show bc he鈥檚 just this spineless, bumbling idiot, but he definitely becomes more likable as the show progresses.
- the age gap is deffo a bit problematic but since the relationship doesn鈥檛 really have intimate scenes & is mostly instigated by noey, I was able to overlook it. but I do wish they would鈥檝e made noey 17 going on 18 & thi 18 or 19 instead of having a six years age gap like that (the fact that the actors actually have an even bigger age gap of 9 years irl doesn鈥檛 help lol.)
would I rewatch it: with pleasure <3
I don't know what possessed me to watch this show but I'm SO GLAD I did bc it's honestly a new favorite of mine. It made me realize that I'm completely fine with bls with a more basic plot when they actually show that they have care put into them & are made to be quirky, fun, and most importantly: authentic.

Now we know why Noey calls Thi Watphlu. It's the name of the temple the gang takes residence in. And Thi is now officially a Watphlu, even though he didn't intend it. Noey is just so confident that he thinks everyone falls for him, it doesn't matter what gender.
I just love them and their banter. Noey and Thi are both stubborn in their own way but also quite patient with each other. How they'll end up in a relationship is still a mystery to me, it'll be by luck or with support of the gang...

Well that ending was sweet and what I expected somewhat. Thiw tagging along with Noey and Thi to sightsee around Chiang Mai worked to ensure any potential intimacy would be interrupted naturally. Auntie Tim and NidNhoi arriving to spend family time with them, and give them an excuse to go to the markets have closure to the meaning of the pendants. Thi got his Watphlu necklace back, and Thi gave Noey the offering key ring that reminded Thi of Noey.
I did like the mini montage we got pre credits of them working through the ldr toward Noey finishing hs, and then the montage during the credits of Noey in University. Noey and Thi learning the dance over the phone was hilarious. Thi鈥檚 friends basically joining the Watphlu gang, and giving us the backstory on not just Noey鈥檚 dad, but also how the gang is changing his dad鈥檚 legacy by being kinder to those who had borrowed money from his Dad.
I loved Thi commenting on Noey鈥檚 lack of tattoos, and NidNhoi being the voice of reason that he never had tattoos - this had to come back up at some point. And that final scene at Noey鈥檚 Uni graduation, where he organised the groom procession to propose to Thi and have their first kiss was surprising, but expected. It was a dead fish kiss considering Tar was underage during filming, but they tried. Thi finally finding the stalk of the lotus was a nice callback.
-Fin-
So I鈥檝e been putting it off, but it鈥檚 time for the final episode of I Will Knock You. Let鈥檚 see how the redeem themselves after Noey decided to be a dumb teenage boy (not affectionate) in the final minutes of the last episode.

I chortled at the Watphlu gang's shocked pikachu faces. The guy in the middle did it best.
Tumblr media
Noey is completely oblivious at his gang's shock. He's lost in thinking about Thi.
Tumblr media
Noey's lovestruck smile made me smile too. His smile is infectious (for a fictional character)!

THE STORY OF HIGH SCHOOL GANG LEADER NOEY WATPHLU (ATIWAT SAENGTIEN aka TAR) AND HIS TUTOR, COLLEGE STUDENT THIWA OR THI (THANAWAT UTHAIKITWANIT aka BOM)
Tumblr media
Though it doesn't begin that way. First meeting Thi walks up on Noey and his gang as Noey tries to "woo" a female high school student with a white lotus flower (Symbolizing Noey's heart) but she's not interested in Noey advances and knocks it out of his hand.
Then comes Thi who saw the whole scene and accidentally crushes the lotus on the ground. Running off with its stem in order to pitch it...that does not end his Encounters with Noey as he runs into him on a bus and even at his home.
Noey wants his heart back. So he forces Thi to search for the stem in the rain.

I Will Knock You has my whole heart.
It's the way Noey is going all in with the flirting and the courting. He's all in your face and very, very determined about it. But Thi and he are closest to each other when neither of them is actively trying.
It's so easy to see how comfortable and smitten with each other they are whenever Thi isn't trying to please anyone and Noey isn't acting tough.
They're just being themselves.
I don't think they get to do that a lot - being themselves (you catch glimpses of it when Thi is tutoring or Noey is with his family/at the temple).
And by spending these comfortable moments together, it's so easy to see how much it changes them, too:
There's this kind of turning point in episode 8 when Noey is driving (more like walking) Thi home and Noey instantly reverts back to his Watphlu persona as soon as they come across Thi's friends - something that's happened many times before. But this time Thi's the one reaching out.
And suddenly we have Noey wanting to buy a helmet for himself, and passing his finals and doing silly fingerhearts at Thi all day long while everyone's watching (instead of having to ask his sister for help and uhm, trying to court Thi by gifting him a gang fight and calling him his wifey).
And none of it is for show. Noey didn't announce any of it to Thi. He's just comfortably and confidently being himself and that's why Thi is falling for him.
Well, that and Noey's food. They really are perfect for each other.

Lackey:Um...
Noey: Shut up! He doesn鈥檛 need to know!
Thi: HUMAN TRAFFICKING?
Lackey: We LARP anime fight scenes on the weekends
