Jeffery’s heart pounded in his chest as the final bell rang, signaling the end of another school day. He practically flew out of his seat, stuffing his books into his backpack with a speed that surprised even him. It wasn’t that he hated school—well, okay, maybe he did—but today, there was something more important waiting for him.

He pushed past the other students crowding the hallway, his mind focused on one thing: getting home to talk to *her*. "xOx.Raven_Shadow.xOx" his girlfriend~

As he hurried out the door, he caught a glimpse of Nicole and her twin sister, Jenifer, laughing together near the lockers. He winced and ducked his head, hoping to avoid their attention. The two of them had been tormenting him since forever, their jokes always cutting a little too deep. But today, he didn’t care. They could laugh all they wanted. He had a secret that they would never know.

Racing down the street, Jeffery couldn’t stop the smile spreading across his face. He had met xOx.Raven_Shadow.xOx in an online game months ago. They clicked immediately, bonding over their shared love of anime, video games, and all things geeky. She was smart, funny, and totally got him in a way no one else did. He had no idea what she looked like, but that didn’t matter. She was perfect.

He finally burst through his front door, practically throwing his backpack aside as he bolted upstairs to his room. His fingers flew over the keyboard as he logged in, excitement buzzing through him. She was already online, her username glowing in the chat.

Jenifer’s breath caught in her throat as she read his message. Her hands trembled as she typed back.

As Jeffery logged off and crawled into bed, he couldn’t stop smiling. He had no idea what tomorrow would bring, but he knew one thing for sure: no matter how tough school was, he had something amazing waiting for him at the end of the day. He had her and that’s all he needed.

And as Jenifer turned off her computer before her sister came in asking who she was talking to and lay down to sleep, she felt the same way. She couldn’t wait to talk to him again, to lose herself in the world they had built together.

But tomorrow, as they passed each other in the hallway, neither would suspect the truth—that the person they mocked, the person they trusted, were one and the same.

And neither of them would realize how close they were to finding out.
