Stunning Pressed Flower Art by Karly Murphy
Virginia-based artist Karly Murphy prides herself in creating everything by hand with the use of real pressed flowers and plants. Since each leaf and bloom is unique in nature, no two pieces are the same. Everything made by Murphy is completely one-of-a-kind.
She reveals on her Etsy shop, “Kmpressed was born of a love for plants and flowers and the desire to preserve them to appreciate and enjoy throughout the year. As a photographer and gardener, I have tried to capture the essence of fresh spring, high summer, and brilliant fall through photos, but at some point I began to also collect blooms and leaves and press them away in old books to rediscover on a wintry day…I am constantly seeking and experimenting with new or special plants to press; whether the challenge is in growing the plant in my own garden or identifying interesting wild specimens (responsibly gathered) in the woods or roadsides.
My work is inspired by vintage botanical artwork and scientific herbarium specimens, with collections heavily influenced by seasonal shifts.” Find her work in her Etsy shop.

I’m so over cheaply-built, over-priced, cookie-cutter homes.
January 2018 A cold and barren wasteland of emptiness stands between myself and the tree line east; a vacant lot within a vineyard development in Wisconsin waits patiently for the thaw of spring to enliven it’s surroundings. January in the middle west of America is both hauntingly beautiful and eerily disturbing as the sun descends on another silent afternoon. No birds. No flowers. No leaves. Nothing. Life does not breathe visibly for very long this time of year, and the dismal gray shrouds of my own breath cloak an uninspired view of freshly-built houses finished with stark white trim & charcoal siding. Bleh.  This project has sat nearly-empty of any inspiringly-constructed architecture for quite some time, maybe two years, and I cannot fathom this whatsoever. A vineyard development, at least to me, begs to be adorned with houses crafted out of natural stone*; a subtle nod to both coachmen’s-style housing seen generations ago in the area; preserving the similar wine-region aesthetics we share with Europe along our latitudinal line.
Alas, there is no clear vision for the future here in this saddle-pocket suburb of Madison, Wisconsin.
*As of Summer 2018 Parade of Homes, nobody has decided to explore an alternative building source to lumber, which is heavily-taxed from our friendlier-when-not-negotiating-exports neighbors to the north, Canada. Guess what I learned in Boston Tea-Party Class? Taxes increase the cost of the finished product. Irresponsible builders are ultimately contributing to a home-affordability crises. Cheaply-built, over-priced residences, when coupled with the labor shortage due to lack of tradesmen, are going to find us right back in another bubble. Please WTFU and start designing homes that are less ornate/elaborate, and instead construct more functional and eco-friendly places to dwell. The tiresome two-story with craftsman-style facade is so 2004. It needs to be buried. In the ground. Dig up some new dirt.  Remember when Jude Law cheated on Sienna Miller with their nanny? Yeah, me too, but they have both moved on.
You probably should, too. Maybe next year.

Dark Matter & Physics
The expansion of the Universe involving “dead matter” as new life is created; “dead”, or excess life is transformed and disposed of. Planes of existence:
The physical realm.
The sub-atomic realm.
Circumstantial conditioning as is interpreted in unique planetary constitutions= the search for “intelligent life” on these planets (and they for our own) + the rise of technology as a threat to *traditional* human existence.  All of this has me contemplating the recent suicides of Anthony Bourdain & Kate Spade. Beacons of a modern world supported by an obsession with food, fame & fashion. Why?
I did not know these individuals personally, but I did feel a sense of familiarity with them. Their faces through a screen and their voices and their products/personality and their... Disconnect.
Is this the new world we have to find a way to survive in? We are now more “connected” than ever, but we couldn’t be farther apart; I’ve thought about unplugging from it all, too.
R.I.P.

I’m still in America. Why Everything We Have Been Told & Sold is a Lie, but it is not untruth that is damaging society- it is FEAR- or Reinventing the Wheel (Part I)
Because (and I am well-aware you “should” never begin a sentence with ‘because’) fear leads to doubt and doubt leads to complacency and complacency leads to embarrassment/self-loathing/etc., which invites exaggeration, which precludes a dishonest embellishment of a “fact”, which lays foundation for houses of cards and not pyramids of opulent success, transparency within our government ceases to be.  Imagine.  If everyone passing leg. on cap hill could come out w/ the true sentiments behind their decision to vote “yes” or “no”:
Money? Safety?
Fear of going against the grain?
Power?
Corruption?
Honest misunderstanding? The plot thickens and the party divides; we are further sown into separate planes divides by the great plains; fertile soil; gone; eroded; damn; rotten luck.
