Stinkek's sideblog | Started playing Worms in February 2023, with the first games being Ultimate Mayhem and W.M.D in that order. Casual at games, pro at talking to myself. No Worms Armageddon worship here.

I can't tell if that guy on Discord is joking, but if he wants to see a male-only "community", he can go to a men's bathroom.
No one ever said that Worms is for men only.

If activity on the mostly Russian Uniworms / Worms Universe is cut down drastically by... real world events, then we need to get new female players. It's not some edgy and gory series that would scare them off. But I have no idea how. These games also aren't F2P and some people want to stay goody-two-shoes even when it comes to abandonware (but there are only so many old disks before they degrade to the point of no longer working as the years pass).

I want WUM to stay alive and thrive, but I'm bored of playing with the same limited settings (W4M had more multiplayer options) with the same people over and over, and I know Team17 only care about the half-assed cash grab that is WAAE.

Team17 co-founder died and the company's X account doesn't even mention it. I probably shouldn't think too much into it.

How to generate Worms locally, for noobs (SDXL and its forks only)
LONG TEXT
For me this is just a non-profit passion project. But there are people out there who don't even want to TRY drawing Worms, imagine that.
Here I will describe how to use Fooocus for generating images of worms using SDXL LoRAs. I mainly use Fooocus because I found it the most convenient.
I won't talk about SD1.5 and Flux because Fooocus doesn't support those checkpoints (also known as base models). I'm also not fond of the LoRAs I trained on those.
Step 1: download and install Fooocus. Fooocus' minimal system requirements ask for 4GB VRAM and 8GB RAM. I don't remember how much space the program needs by itself, BUT the drive you install to must have enough space for the base model (usually between 6.5 and 7 GB) and the LoRA (over 200 MB) you want.
To start the program run the file run.bat, which will also download the base model juggernautXL_v8Rundiffusion (I'll ignore it and recommend a different base model, this is just hardcoded ig). BTW if you run run_anime.bat it will download animaPencilXL_v500, if you run run_realistic.bat it will download realisticStockPhoto_v20. When you run the program, BE CAREFUL NOT TO CLICK ANY PRESETS BY ACCIDENT, these options may automatically start downloading base models without an option to cancel.
Step 2: go here, pick the kind of worms you want to generate, browse the versions (SDXL, Illustrious or Pony) and download the desired LoRA.
Depending on the version you choose, you must download the corresponding base model, as there are nuances in how they work. "But wait, WTF are base models and LoRAs?" Base models and LoRAs are like base games and DLCs: a base model works by itself but may lack something (e.g. not a single base model can make Team17 worms by itself), LoRAs are supplementary files made to fill in such "gaps in knowledge".
SDXL - SD XL. Just SD XL, a generalised base model that can do a lot of stuff but it's least suited for characters, I find it to be kind of dumb so I mostly use Pony and Illustrious. You can go with any other model offered by Fooocus if you're lazy, but the results may look weirder and uglier.
Pony - Pony Diffusion V6 XL. You can download it simply by selecting the "pony_v6" preset in Fooocus. SD XL finetune that can do many MLP characters on its own, some popular non-MLP characters and furries. Best suited for fictional characters of different species. Works with both Booru style tag prompts and natural language prompts. Adding "score_9, score_8_up, score_7_up, score_6_up, score_5_up, score_4_up" to the prompt can sometimes make a big difference from when you don't use it, this string is used ONLY for Pony and its finetunes.
Illustrious - Illustrious-XL. SD XL finetune that is specialised in anime, trained on images posted to Danbooru and has some built in artist style knowledge. There should be some long prompt strings to copypaste for quality control. Although worms look vastly different from an average anime character, I found it to be surprisingly good at making them.
Technically you can ATTEMPT generating images where the LoRA doesn't match the base model, but the results will probably be of low quality or not produce worms at all.
Step 3: place the files of the base model and the LoRA into the right folders of Fooocus. Go to Fooocus_win64_2-5-0\Fooocus\models, the inner folders' names should be self-explanatory.
Step 4: Run Fooocus, check the Advanced box to open the settings (why is this even here? this stuff should be open at all times!). Set performance to Speed (Quality is too slow and not worth it with how flawed worms tend to be, any faster settings look bad, but you do you). Choose Aspect Ratio. Choose the number of images you want to generate in sequence (you can cancel anything you don't want mid-generation). Choose Output Format.
There's a Style tab but I never really experimented with it. These "styles" add secret prompt extensions. I can't comment on their compatibility with different finetunes, though the default selection completely ruined the results of one SDXL finetune I tried, disabling everything fixed it. If you select the "pony_v6" preset, it will also select the "Fooocus Pony" style which adds hidden score prompt extensions (so don't manually add any score tags if you use it).
Go to the Models tab to select the base model and the LoRA you want (there's some placeholder LoRA by default, replace it). You can ignore the slots that say "None", they don't do anything. Set the LoRA's weight to 1 or something close, DO NOT set it to the max.
In Advanced, choose Guidance Scale. I usually use numbers between 4 and 10. Higher numbers tend to have better prompt adherence but more contrasted (and potentially fried) images.
Step 5: fill in the Prompt and Negative Prompt fields. The trigger words are the most important. NOTE: I found that "limbless, armless, legless" are pretty much useless. NOTE 2: I used the term "disembodied hands" wrong, it's for offscreen characters' hands, using it may have issues. Describe in Prompt what you want to see and in Negative Prompt - what you do NOT what to see.
If you use Pony, you may add the score string or use the "Fooocus Pony" style, but that doesn't necessarily mean good or accurate results, though it may drastically change the look. Pony also has age rating tags "rating_general", "rating_questionable" and "rating_explicit" and source tags "source_pony", "source_anime", "source_cartoon", "source_furry", use and blacklist them at your own discretion.
If you use Illustrious, you should copypaste "masterpiece, very aesthetic" to Prompt and some string of undesirable factors to Negative Prompt, something including "4koma, comic, turnaround, worst quality", etc. Like Pony, it also has age rating tags: "general", "questionable" and "explicit". You may be able to steer the results to a certain style if you find some popular artists on Danbooru (maybe 100+ pictures) and add their names, but nobody on there draws Worms so it's a hit or miss.
Hit Generate and watch the process.
If you're only seeing noise and it's not forming into anything coherent - you messed up the prompt really bad, make it simpler and try again.
If the picture is very noisy or extremely contrasted and saturated, you can try simplifying the prompt, reducing Guidance Scale and disabling Styles (except Fooocus Pony if you generate with Pony).
If the worm doesn't quite look like a worm, you can try increasing the LoRA's weight and extending Negative Prompt to include undesirable species and body parts. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees, especially if you try to generate worms with hair and avoid human ears.

Civitai PSA:
characters being hung are prohibited, which is not stated in the ToS.
Guess how I found out? Because of a picture where they're NOT EVEN ACTUALLY BEING HUNG. It got the automatic tag "hanging" for which I didn't find any results.

But at the same time stuff like this is perfectly fine because there are a few LoRAs with galleries showing it.
