hey everyone be careful

I don't know if anyone has talked about this, but lately this has been happening in other fandoms too. There'll be these bot accounts that straight up steals people's posts and adds "expand" "read more" "continue" as a link in the end of the post - DON'T CLICK ON THAT, it's most likely a malware or something of the like.

so if you see a post like this: no profile picture, something that looks reposted (I've seen this happening to artists too) and a link at the end, even if the post has tags, that's a bot. Block and report it.

stay safe, and I hope @staff finds a way to stop these bots soon!

PSA: "NO NEED TO APOLOGIZE".

Had a long day at work? Maybe you were out partying with friends. Or maybe you just didn't have enough energy to really get to anything today. Maybe you were sick! You have coursework that you had to get to. Hundreds of factors can cause inactivity / lack of interactions for days, weeks, or even months. It is in many people's nature to apologize for their absence.

But before you profusely apologize for being inactive, ask yourself;

What did you do wrong?

What negative impact did your actions / inaction cause?

If someone is genuinely upset by your behavior, why?

If you can't think of a concise & reasonable answer to all three, there's no need to apologize. No reasonable person will claim that you not being on the dashboard for days or months is directly harming them. If they are, they frankly shouldn't be putting all of their rp eggs into one basket. Plot with other people, understand that this is a hobby. Not something we clock in and out of.

Don't shame people for being a 'chronic apologizer', either. God knows what people have been through in the RPC. Just understand that inactivity, especially unexpected inactivity, which pulls you away from hobbies is a part of life.

PSA: YOU DO NOT "OWE" PEOPLE EXPLAINATIONS FOR LACK OF ACTIVITY, NOR JUSTIFICATION.

A lot of people in the community tend to make little ooc/personal posts explaining that they may be inactive for a bit for say, vacation, mental health, or just broader work reasons from time to time. This is absolutely fine, and always will be! Sometimes people simply want to communicate that activity may be bumpy especially during a transitional period in their life that may have them be on hiatus for a while.

However, many pockets of the RPC has expected this form of... Overcommunication, it feels. I get it. Your RP partner being gone for what, a few days at a time with no warning? Can sometimes make you wonder if they're alright. At the same time... Some people probably just don't see the need to constantly make little out of character status updates, while other people do.

People are not required to explain why they were out for 2 days instead of one. While we are on a social media platform, some people are just different with how they communicate. Sometimes folks are only active 5 times in a year, and that's fine! Just don't demand an "explanation" out of people. Take a step back, remember that this is a hobby, and there's no time limit. If you put a harsh time limit on yourself, this is no longer a hobby, it's an unpaid job.

Blocking is;

A way to not see a particular user & their posts

A way to cultivate your space

A way to avoid conflict

Blocking ISN'T;

Inherently selfish & immature

Something you need an explanation for

'An awful thing to do to someone'

There's this odd movement of people trying to de-normalize blocking users. Trying to hide behind excuses such as "you need to communicate with your partners, it's immature to block someone out of the blue" and... No??? No. More likely than not, people who tend to get blocked the most by users are strangers they don't vibe with or rp partners they didn't even interact with that they no longer see themselves interacting with for any reason. More people need to see it as a red flag when people get super genuinely upset when one of the billions of people on the internet block them "out of the blue". If you cannot handle being blocked online, whether it's someone you apparently know, or some random who might've just fat fingered the block button and doesn't even know you exist, you shouldn't be online. Are there freak scenarios where someone shouldn't block someone? Maybe, but people should prioritize their mental health and simply block someone instead of engaging with someone out of obligation. This is a hobby, I can click what button I please. Not to say people will block their mutuals willy-nilly or you should be walking on eggshells, but it's time to stop viewing blocking someone as a "bad thing" or a "last resort".
