1. What is Pop Art?       Pop Art is an artistic revolution that is reached though the potential of Pop, media, and artist. Pop Art is  often not set with the goal of commercial success but because of it's popularity usually obtains high masses of attention. Ex. Andy Warhol's piece of many Marilyn Monroe's is symbolic of how the media had used and lead to her deterioration and death; this piece was a statement as a good majority of Pop Art pieces have a message that is implied or accompanied.
Tumblr media
2. Why is Keith Haring's work considered Pop Art?    Keith Haring's work is considered Pop Art because he had world wide messages (Aids and drug prevention) that he shared with the masses (Especially New York) As a world renowned artist he used his simplistic design with a simple message. Often drawn in chalk Keith Haring would linger in the subway stations making murals for others to see until it was washed away. Also he was recognized by Andy Warhol himself so that kind of makes it official.

3. Describe some of Keith Haring's Art.    Keith Haring's art had a very clean and simple style, the outlines typically bold with solid colours filling in the image. People, dogs, and monsters were typically included in his imagery; usually disfigured or distorted in different ways such as limbs being stretched, distorted, connected or going though something else or itself. Ex.
Tumblr media
But most importantly his work revolved around the campaign to end AIDS, from posters to murals those depicted with the disease typically have an X on their chest or they are filled in with dots and could aslo be depicted as a snake. This is most likely due to the fact he was struggling with the disease himself and was what caused his death later on. Many of his works could be considered sexual and brutally real of how AIDS effects others.Ex.

As you may have noticed the first two images contain the same figure kneeling with lines around it, this became the symbol for Keith Haring's AIDS campaign and is often incorporated into his work involving the matter.

Project 2: A Frosty Morning
Best photo: Last photograph
The Techniques used in the last photo were a mixture of editing levels & purposely tipping the photo’s balance to give the leading line that is portrayed in the road, driveway, and telephone lines some contrast to the car being lifted up by a UFO. I found that doing this put more emphasis on the middle ground but because of were the car & UFO are placed the driveway seams to lead your eye to the focal point of the doodles.

Project #3: Still life
Best Photo: 1st photo ft.Fountain Pen
Reflection: The reason I chose the Fountain Pen as my best photo is because I feel it shows a story as you observe & analyse. From the speckled ink on the handle to the number of the fountain tip’s engraving it shows the personality of the person who once help the pen and used it to express themselves. It is still and forever unmoving but somehow was able to move someone enough to paint a picture, that alone shows how powerful simple objects can be to individuals. People hold memories and moments in objects sometimes, a photo of an apple may mean nothing to you but to another it may remind them of their younger years as an apple farmer.

Assignment #5: Conceptual self potrait
Best photo: 1st picture
Reflection:
The reason I chose the first photo as the representation of myself is because I aspire to contribute something to society and the world. I know it sounds rather generic and cliché, maybe even foolish but isn’t that what every person aspires to do in life? Teachers leave their mark on this world though the students they teach and inspire, Presidents and Prime Ministers lead the people of their nation to hopefully make our future a positive sustainable place. I wish to be able to show the world what I can do though Photography and leave a piece of me behind when I am gone.
Is it naive for me to assume that I too will become an innovator of the world? Perhaps, but that won’t stop me from trying nor discourage me from following my passions and goals. I feel like the coin itself is a symbol for those who create and discover because how else would we further ourselves in Technology as a rapidly-growing society. Wishful thinking would incline me to believe that if I can show society how every person has their own story, has their own view on life, and are so unique to this world. Maybe if someone showed the kindness in our story people would be less likely to spread hate because that moment when they realize no one should have the power to disregard or end another’s story.

Jpeg V.S Raw
Jpeg: A file format that is processed right inside the camera that vary from each camera model. Jpeg's are readable by any image program on the market or available open source, has exactly 8-bits of colour (12-bits per location) is compressed (by looking for redundancy in the data like ZIP file or stripping out what human can’t perceive like a MP3). Jpegs are also small in file size an 8 megapixel camera will produce JPEG between 1 and 3 MB’s in size. Jpeg formats can be saved in any image program from the pre-installed paint program in virtually every home computer to more advanced Adobe photoshop and other photo editing programs.
RAW: is a file format that captures all image data recorded by the sensor when you take a photo. When shooting in a format like JPEG image information is compressed and lost. at least 8 bits per colour – red, green, and blue (12-bits per X,Y location), though most DSLRs record 12-bit colour (36-bits per location). Uncompressed a raw file is much bigger, an 8 megapixel camera will produce a 8 MB Raw file in size. Because no information is compressed with RAW you’re able to produce higher quality images, as well as correct problem images that would be unrecoverable if shot in the JPEG format.

Assignment #9: Shoot like Aaron Siskind
DISCLAIMER: The last 3 photos are photographs taken by Aaron Siskind.
Best photo: The second photograph from the top.
Reflection: I particularly enjoy the 1st and 3rd photo’s from Aaron Siskind’s set. The first I ponder as I think of the setting and history of the place Aaron took the photograph; the raised paint compared to the wall gives it a real texture that is satisfying to the eyes as if I could reach out and touch it. The 3rd photo I enjoy because of the various ways Aaron portrays motion, it’s falling and rising action look consistently graceful and weightless that shows strength. Aarons style speaks of the technical side of photography, setting his composition to be very even and ascetically pleasing. The use of his black and white contrasted photos prove the earlier point even more as it proves that attention to how your photo’s are composed are key to having a successful photograph.

This photo, taken moments after it was announced that WWll was over to American soldiers and nurses has become an iconic symbol of the pure relief and joy that followed knowing Adolf Hitler's rein of terror and genocide had finally ceased. This photo perfectly captures this joy from the subtle way the female subject (nurse) is propping her foot up at just the right angle to the middle ground;smiling nurses and soldiers with pure relief spread across their face, some even turned to the main focal point. Although this photo dose have it's focal point set in the middle of the grid for the rules of thirds it ends up complimenting the message and image itself; as your eye is drawn to the two main subjects (focal point) your eye wanders to the middle ground (the people standing by) showing that this happiness was a shared feeling and is spread throughout everyone in that moment. Finally your eye goes to the white buildings into the back, because of the contrast of the black pavement that makes up the lower half of the photo and the shaded/black buildings in the background it creates a frame for lighter upper portion of the photo. While we are speaking about contrast the positive space created by the nurse, from her white uniform to her white tights and white shoes adds a seance of purity while giving contrast to the pavement and "black" sailor/navy uniform giving the eye something to immediately make a comparison as the two are almost one in the photo.        The form in the photo is interesting and catches your eye because of the way the nurse's back is arched from the way the male focal point is holding her, this pose gives it movement and motion as if he has just swept the female focal points feet. The darkness of the male focal points hand brings attention to the way that he is desperately grabbing the nurse, as if he needed to exert the overwhelming happiness so urgently he wouldn't be able to carry on; that may also have to do with the fact that he has been at war leaving no time to form a relationship or start a family during the years of WWll. The speckles of white scattered throughout the pavement add depth, as well as the trolly tracks and the way the other people in the photo are scattered throughout the foreground and background. This gives the photo the illusion that there is space behind the focal point; the crowd of people in the background being key as they flood onto the streets, notably smaller than the main focal point. The way the buildings are positioned along with the railroad tracks also add lines that your eye follows giving an even bigger illusion of depth even though the focal point is rather 2 dimensional. In conclusion this photo has an amazing contrast and different layers to study and as you study the photograph you notice smaller details like the male focal point holding the female focal points hat behind her head, or the blurry portion of the female's arm and hand that is in the very front of the photo.
#2: Elizabeth Eckford and Hazel Massery; Will Counts, 1957
In this photograph the negative energy is very clear from the looks of distain from the students surrounding Elizabeth Eckford, and the new coming hope she brings for coloured people's education.

All About Me Collage
How I did it!
To start this assignment I chose a textured photo to add depth and texture to the background of the collage; I chose a photo of dry, cracked ground that was subtle enough to not take the viewers entail 'first look' (Focal Point) to this part of the collage but instead add detail as the viewer studied the piece further.        After taking the photo and cropping it to the appropriate size (8x10) I gave the contrast a lighter shade so when I layered other images on top it wouldn't completely blend with them. After adding the sky swing image I turned the opacity down to 68% to give the imprint of the swings but having the texture of the image underneath still visible; this also added subtle colouring from the sunset and clouds from the sky swing image.         To the left side of the image I added two separate images, the first a picture of bark that I changed the hue and saturation so it became very vibrant and distorted and set the opacity to 49%. The second an image of the sky with power lines that I reshaped to fit only a small portion which gave the roses a solid background.    When adding the roses I re-shaped, adjusted the hue, and rotated copies of the original rose because I felt it would add a unique element to this collage as it creates detail.   Next I cropped the left subject from another photo on top the roses with an 80% opacity as to not completely obscure the roses and other textures already added, then I gave it a luminosity effect, added a gradient overlay and the of black to transparent and re-sized the clipping to fit the collage.    After finishing the left subject I moved on the the right subject that I cropped out of another photo After re-shaping I gave it the darken effect and 80% opacity and for a final touch I placed on a separate layer a pair of roller skates to add a hidden element for the viewer. For the roller skates I gave it a drop shadow effect and 100% opacity.    For a final touch and to fill in the rest of the collage I copped an image of a guitar and using similar techniques for the roses I copied, and reshaped some guitars into the top right corner of the page with a luminosity effect and 100% opacity.
