I made a redraw of my first tolkien fanart, and what can I say? I levelled up, I think.

Curvo looks expensive, and I love that about him. I still have no idea who's skull that is (maybe Feanor's because he's such a daddy's boy?)

My little version of Curufinwë Atarinkë aka Curvo, aka murderous boy. It isn't perfect, but it's my first attempt to draw anyone from the Tolkien-verse.

I'd say the skull is from the second kinslaying, but boy doesn't survive this one.. so maybe from the first? A little souvenir from Tol Eressëa 💀��

Celebrimbor, my favourite blorbo, standing in front of the "creation of Adam" print. (I know it's a fresco, but that doesn't matter now, heh).

I like the idea that Celebrimbor stands in front of where the hands are supposed to nearly touch. It feels like he's not only the centre of the fanart but also symbolically with the painting. I also like the idea of him being portrayed together with this painting specifically. Something about it just clicks in my brain.

(My first ideas were to either make the painting of Feanor and the Silmarils (their creation maybe) or about Sauron with the ring (maybe the one where Isildur cuts off his finger?) but then I felt like that would take too much attention away from my babyboy)

I want it to be "he's just a man" or "a friend became a monster" because these are the lines that are constantly associated to Ody, but at least the "I'm just a man" was also sung by Eurylochus, and even in the thunder saga aswell. It would be an acknowledgement that the line doesn't belong to him. It belongs to Ody, but he can still sing it about him instead of himself.

Alternatively to "a friend became a monster", I also propose "he's a different beast now" because I think that's even more dehumanising.

I wonder what Eurylochus's last thoughts about Odysseus were when he died.

Polites was so sweet "My friend, great the world with open arms", and the drowned crew wasn't but it made sense "Captain! Why did you let the Cyclops live when ruthlessness is mercy?!" but Eurylochus' death in particular feels so much more personal? He sounded so vulnerable when he said "...but we will die."

He clearly still had a lot of faith/care for Ody but he was somewhat betrayed twice before his end (the six torches and Odysseus' choice to kill the crew over himself) yet part of Eurylochus already seem to have known this would happen "You miss your wifе so bad, you trade the lives of your own crew" and Ody's choice proves he had been right and I can't I can't

Wait! I'm still stuck on the Saint Sebastian comparison of Celebrimbor, especially after I saw the painting of Caravaggio in Catania, Sicilia, and how much it stunned me!

Please, this is stunning! The text said that the painting was drawn like that to make the viewer feel like they're the archer, causing the martyrdom of Sebastian.

You’ve heard of the whole “Saint Sebastianification of Celebrimbor” in Elven paintings

But I bet that the meeting of Beren and Lúthien was also a popular subject for horny Elven painters

On one hand, you’ve got paintings that have Beren in full armor and Lúthien in a blue gown, the both of them chastely holding hands in a meadow of hemlock and niphredil

On the other hand, there are paintings of a shirtless Beren embracing a blushing Lúthien, who is dressed in some translucent gown, her hair woven with flowers, her lips only inches away from Beren’s lips

I’m just saying, “The Meeting of Beren and Lúthien” has potential for a lot of unintentionally horny paintings among the Elves

Not Tolkien related at all today, but I draw a picture of our dog for my mother's birthday, and one of her friends asked me to draw hers aswell so I did and these are the results.

And I'm honestly so proud of these, and while they're not elves, they probably helped me to understand shading a little more.

What if Celegorm died first in Menegroth? And Curufin was in so much pain about his death that he didn't care if he got killed or not. What if, mh?

What's this? Oh, just one brother mouring the other.

I like to imagine that these two were inseparable, and Celegorm was also a big brother for Curvo. Just imagine the co-dependency.

When Dior had slain Celegorm, Curufin didn't have much to life for after. What kind of world was it, where he did have to prevail without Celegorm. And for the first time, he felt a pain that not even the oath could compare to, and for a moment, every decision he had made that let them up to this point flashed through his mind. Was it worth it? The blood on his hands was as red as his clothes. He wanted to tear it all off. And while he was still crying out to the sky, he felt hot steel on his throat. Hot from his brother's blood. It was all over now.

My sister got a new book that's whole premise is a dark lord thrust across reality into the body of a teenage boy and now I can't stop think about Sauron being an angsty teenager and the elves just patting his head and nodding along because he can't do anything to them cause he's locked in the body of a teenager.

"Fear me!" Sauron exclaims as he marches towards the pandering idiots only to trip over his own legs. Stupid mortal body making him look like an idiot.

As beautifully heart-wrenching scenes of Maedhros clutching fingon’s dead body in anguish are, just remember that in canon

“Gothmog hewed him with his black axe, and a white flame sprang up from the helm of Fingon as it was cloven”

and

“they beat him into the dust with their maces”

there was no body left to mourn. Nothing left of the high king of the Noldor but

“his banner, blue and silver”

which

“they trod into the mire of his blood”

Now picture Maedhros searching the bog of devastation that was the battlefield, clinging to hope and terror as fingon’s body remains unfound…

until his foot tangles in the tattered remains of a blue and silver banner amongst the pieces of a shattered helm strung with a once golden ribbon…
