Candyman (2021)
Check out my review on Candyman (2021)
Directed by Nia DeCosta Written by Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, and Nia DeCosta Starring: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Colman Domingo “Say His Name…” Candyman is a name that is well-known in the Black community. Like knowing how to play Spades or understanding who gets an invite to the cookout, we all know the story of Candyman. The original film was…

Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021) will make a lot of money despite being a corporate pandering mess. Still better than the original though - but not by much... Check the review
Written by Juel Taylor, Tony Rettenmaier, Kennan Coogler and Terence Nance Directed by Malcolm D. Lee Starring: LeBron James, Don Cheadle, and Cedric Joe Throughout his career, LeBron James has constantly been compared to Michael Jordan. Whether it’s fair or not, both players will always be compared to each other. Fierce debates will rage for decades as to which is the greatest of all time in…

Black Widow
Black Widow is an excellent action movie with a villain that may have been overhyped. Check out my review.
Written by Eric Pearson and others Directed by Cate Shortland Starring: Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour I remember writing about this film a few years ago when it was first announced. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe had been clamoring for a feature film for Black Widow for a while, and the initial trailer had us all hyped to see it. The film looked like…

Luca
Luca represents another amazing and whimsical Pixar offering - this time, in Italian.
Written and Directed by: Enrico Casarosa Starring: Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer, Emma Berman, and Saverio Raimondo I’ve always liked that Pixar films seem to be far more relatable than other films. Each story – regardless of how whimsical or imaginative it is – is grounded by a relatable internal story. Pixar’s most memorable movies are all relatable because we’re watching characters go…

WandaVision Ep 3 - 6
WandaVision Ep 3 - 6 recap and review
Now that all that pesky setup is out of the way, it’s finally time to get down to business. As many of you have probably seen by now, WandaVision has certainly stepped up the drama. Where the first three episodes were considered boring and drawn out by some, there’s no denying that episodes 4, 5 and 6 are far more interesting. Episode 4 serves as a sort of recap for the beginning of the series.…

WandaVision (Ep 1 - 3)
Besides the fact that the show is undoubtedly setting up a future Marvel movie, the show is good on its own. The mystery of these first few episodes is wildly compelling, and there are some pretty funny moments in the show.
Directed: Matt Shakman Written by Peter Cameron and others Starring: Elizabeth Olson, Paul Bettany, Teyonah Parris, Kathryn Hahn, Randall Park, Kat Dennings and others It’s been a solid year (and some change) since we were all treated to the culmination of Marvel’s cinematic universe in the form of Avengers: Endgame. At the beginning of 2020, a new batch of films was announced for marvel’s…

Malcolm and Marie
Esoteric film industry criticism might go over the audience's head, but Zendaya and John David Washington are so good that you probably won't notice anyway
Written and Directed by Sam Levinson Starring John David Washington and Zendaya To be honest, I struggled with how to even start a review for this movie. At first glance, Malcolm and Marie seems like it’s going to be an artsy, black and white version of a troubled couple. And frankly, that’s a pretty accurate take. Malcolm and Marie takes place over a single night and features an incredibly…

Soul
The problem is that the movie Soul, ironically enough, lacks soul – especially compared with other Pixar offerings that have come before it.
Written by Pete Docter, Mike Jones and others Directed by Pete Docter and Kemp Powers Starring: Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey You would be forgiven for having high expectations coming into a movie like Pixar’s Soul. Pixar already has an incredible pedigree, every bit of marketing for the film has showcased the unique soundtrack of the movie, its starring heavyweights like Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey,…

Wonder Woman 1984
Wonder Woman 1984 manages to be one of the most disappointing films of the year. It’s entirely too long, there’s not enough action, and the special effects are blatantly awful at times. Frankly, this movie isn’t even worth the 15$ subscription to HBO Max.
Written by Patty Jenkins, Geoff Johns and others Directed by Patty Jenkins Starring: Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal Sigh… Normally in these reviews, I try to open with some sort of introduction in order to give context to my review. I might provide some background information on the film, or some insight into my thought process when it comes to reviewing films. But for…

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey
Jingle Jangle's vivid visuals, catchy songs and magical child geniuses will capture the imaginations of any child, especially the children of color that this movie represents so well. But it may be a bit of a slog for adults like me who are a bit cynical.
Written and directed by David E. Talbert Starring: Forest Whitaker, Keegan-Michael Key, Madalen Mills and Phylicia Rashad Reviewing movies is fun for me. I enjoy looking at things through an analytical lens as it is. But the tough part is this: How do you review a film that clearly wasn’t made for you. But that is the situation I find myself in when it comes to the 2020 film Jingle Jangle: A…

Klaus
Every once in a while… we’re treated to a holiday movie that has some effort and some heart put into it. Luckily, 2019’s Klaus is just such a movie.
Directed by: Sergio Pablos and Carlos Martinez Written by: Sergio Pablos Starring: Jason Schwartzman, J.K. Simmons and Rashida Jones Every year around the holidays, the movie industry feels it necessary to pump out a slew of mediocre Christmas and holiday-themed films in hopes of grabbing some quick cash from parents and overly nostalgic audiences. Most of the time, the offerings presented are…

Tenet
[A film that you have to watch twice for understanding can’t be perfect, but Tenet is definitely one of the more memorable, and enjoyable action films I’ve watched in recent memory]
Written and directed by Christopher Nolan Starring: John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki and Kenneth Branagh The year 2020 has certainly been a difficult one for many. It’s revealed a lot of questions that we need to ask. And as we prepare to enter 2021, there’s one question that seems to loom large over the country right now: Did anyone understand what the hell was going…

The Dragon King's Bounty: Chapter Three
The Dragon King’s Bounty: Chapter Three
Perhaps it was the morning sun cresting over the dense tree line, or the light wispy breeze brushing by his face, but Squidd was the first to awake from his slumber – despite the short amount of sleep due to playing lookout. He snapped his head up, pulling his shoulders off of the tree trunk he had been slumped against. Rather than wake everyone else immediately, he decided his time could be best…

Tuesday
Today is the day…
That we, as a segmented collective
March steadfastly towards the gallows
Eager and irate for our favored method of torture
Some stand idly by
Dull and apathetic to the very last,
Content to wait patiently
For future deathly duldrums
But we passionate few soldier on
Behind duplicitous saviors and grifters alike
In search of some clandestine…

The Dragon King's Bounty: Chapter Two
The Dragon King’s Bounty: Chapter Two
“So…. We certainly have our work cut out for us.” Sier started. “We should start our search in the Woods of Aether. Bandits are known to use the woods as cover before launching raids or attacks on passersby and they may have some information.”
The group stared back at him, clearly puzzled at what he was saying.
“Or I guess we should figure out what we have here first…”

The Dragon King's Bounty
The Dragon King’s Bounty
CHAPTER ONE
A distant land exists beyond the horizon – across crystal oceans and mysterious deep blue seas. That continent is beautiful to behold: lush, green fields stretch across huge expanses, bracketed by tall mountain peaks, tips covered in frost. Dense, mysterious forests dot the landscape to the west, just south of an enormous desert. As picturesque and diverse as the continent is, the…

The Banker (2020)
Directed by: George Nolfi
Written by: Brad Kane, Nicole R. Levy and others
Starring: Anthony Mackie, Samuel L Jackson, Nicholas Hoult and Nia Long
Films that are “based on true events” are often difficult to review. It’s tough to critique someone’s real life, and often, it might be hard to tell what actually happened against the liberties films often take in fabricating…
