Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier by Mark Frost was released this week. Here are some of the novel’s most interesting reveals (lots of spoilers) -
It’s suggested that Audrey was raped by Mr. C (Cooper’s doppelganger, referred to in the book as “the Double”) while she was in a coma. Two months after coming out of her coma, she found out she was pregnant. She gave birth to Richard and then married her accountant for what appear to be financial reasons. The reader is left to presume the accountant is Charlie. For years Audrey ran a salon in Twin Peaks. She declined to reveal - or even discuss - Richard’s parentage with anyone. She kept a photo of Agent Cooper framed on the wall in the office of her salon. One day she closed her salon and became an agoraphobe. It’s rumored that she’s currently residing in a psychiatric hospital. So there’s your white room.
Ben sold Ghostwood and a prison was built on the property. Ben’s deep regret over the decision to sell the property, and the effect it had on Audrey, led him to re-evaluate his business practices. One interesting detail - Warden Murphy worked at Ghostwood Prison.
The revelation at the end of season 2 that Ben is Donna’s father eventually led to the dissolution of both the Horne family and the Hayward family. Sylvia left Ben, and Doc Hayward moved away from town, leaving Eileen to raise the two youngest daughters herself. Donna went to NYC where she became a famous model and then a drug addict. After recovery, Donna moved in with Doc Hayward and has since been working as an administrator for his practice.
Nobody’s seen Steven Burnett, Becky’s husband, since that scene out in the woods with him, Gersten, and Mark Frost. I figured he’d killed himself, but this info suggests otherwise. He was indicted in a takedown of the TP drug ring along with Chad and other bad guys. Becky is alive and works in a bakery that Norma owns in TP. Maybe Steven’s in the lodge. Or at the farm.
After Annie came out of the lodge, she fell into a sort of vegetable state. She’s still alive but she merely sits and stares. Each year, on the same time and date, 8:38 a.m. on the anniversary of the night she was found in the woods, she says, “I’m fine.” This echoes Laura/Carrie hearing Sarah call her name at the end of season 3.
Mark Frost has said he’s tired of people asking him, “How’s Annie?” Now it’s settled.
Annie’s words could relate to Cooper’s “white knight syndrome,“ as described by Tammy, the narrator of the dossier. Tammy feels that Coop’s obsession with saving women stems from when he had to take care of his sick mother. This is Cooper’s fatal flaw.
Leo Johnson was killed, presumably by either Windom Earle or Mr. C. Windom hasn’t been seen since his time in the lodge.
The jade ring was found in the possession of the late Doug Milford. It’s implied that the ring was passed along to Lana, who then passed it along to various men she encountered.
Jacoby started Dr. Amp in 2006 after working with 9/11 survivors and devoting his life to political activism. The book reveals that Dr. Amp has a large following online, that Nadine and Jerry aren’t the only ones watching. Jacoby sells hundreds of shovels a week and he donates most of the profits to progressive causes. Nadine’s milkshakes in season 3 are Dr. Amp brand hemp milkshakes. Rumor has it Nadine and Jacoby are currently dating.
It’s mentioned that James Hurley sometimes performs his songs locally. Some viewers speculated that the Roadhouse scenes take place in an alternate reality, but it seems as if as strange as they are, they’re real.
Harry has cancer. Frank stepped in to facilitate Hawk’s transition to being sheriff.
Tammy theorizes that the doppelganger is indeed the “dweller on the threshold” that Hawk has described.
Near the end of the dossier, Tammy describes what she found when she looked up newspaper reports on Laura Palmer. Turns out there are no records of Laura’s death, only her mysterious disappearance. Cooper visited TP to assist in the investigation but he didn’t spend much time there. A year later, Leland committed suicide. People at the sheriff’s department have a hard time remembering the details surrounding Laura’s disappearance. Tammy, however, remembers the timeline in which Laura died. This must be what Jeffries meant when he tells Cooper that Cole will remember the “official version.”
It’s confirmed that Sarah Palmer is the frog-bug girl in New Mexico. It’s noted that her father worked on the Manhattan Project.
Joudy is an ancient entity in Sumerian mythology, from a species of wandering demons that feed on human suffering. Joudy is the female form of this type of demon. Ba'al is the male, and it is said that if Ba'al and Joudy were ever to unite, their “marriage” would bring about the apocalypse. I believe this was Mr. C’s goal. This is what he wanted, to unite Bob (Ba'al) with Judy (Joudy).
We’re provided with info regarding Phillip Jeffries, Ray Monroe, Diane, Major Briggs, Bill Hastings, Ruth Davenport, Mr. C’s criminal network, and a lot more. The novel doesn’t push the narrative into any new directions; it merely clarifies or confirms what the show has already suggested.

Woe to the ones who thought Twin Peaks would be easy. The show is nearly as long as every one of Lynch’s features put together.
At this point I’ve read a lot of different interpretations and even the most plausible don’t hold up under scrutiny. There are so many unanswered questions and contradictions that the intention seems to have been to create a labyrinth. Twin Peaks season 3 is whatever’s in the blue box in Mulholland Dr.
That doesn’t mean there isn’t any thematic purpose to the thing or that the plot is arbitrary. The plot unfolds in a more linear way than some have suggested. For the most part the show’s played straight. It’s full of mystery and atmosphere but it doesn’t get “pure heroin” weird until the last two episodes. Most people thought they were following it okay until Cooper’s head became superimposed over the screen.
From the beginning, this season was a story about the story of Twin Peaks. Every episode begins with Laura Palmer’s homecoming photo, the same photo in the golden orb that is dreamed into existence by the Fireman. Fire Walk with Me asked us why Laura is important, and the new series answers this question. Because she represents something pure - the story, the idea - and the finale illustrates the incorruptibility of that purity. We desperately wanted Laura to be alive and happy and reunited with her mother. But Laura’s reality will never change. Her pain transcends our expectations for a happy ending because her pain is true to her character, and her pain is what birthed this mystery of Twin Peaks. Her pain is a bomb, and her scream at the end is the counter to the atomic explosion we see in Part 8.
To make sense of the ending, look to a short story by Jorge Luis Borges called The Garden of Forking Paths. In it, a man sets out to accomplish two tasks - to write a novel, and to build a labyrinth so dense that every person who enters it will get lost. He dies before he can construct his labyrinth and he leaves behind a novel that nobody can understand. In the novel, a character dies in one chapter, and is alive in the next. It’s dismissed as the ramblings of a crazy man until someone realizes that the man did construct his labyrinth. The labyrinth is the novel. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Cooper wakes up by sticking a fork in an electrical socket.
Had Judy trapped Laura/Carrie in some alternate universe? When Laura screams and the lights go out in the Palmer house, does that mean Laura has woken up from her dream? Will she be alive? If there is a season 4 (which is a little bit more likely than some may think it is), don’t expect these questions to be answered. The beauty of Twin Peaks is in its mystery.

Ricky Shore Sings the Blues - Night In
We’re back! Again. We started filming this one at around 8 last night, finished at 10. That’s pretty common for a video of this length. I like them to be around three minutes but I also think it’s good to have a variety of runtimes.
Hope you enjoy! It had us busting a gut.
