As much as I would have loved to see Donna Hayward in s3 of Twin Peaks, her not being there also suggests something more positive for her. Like, it implies she left, that she moved on, that she's no longer haunted by Laura. There's something beautiful about that idk. I would of course have loved to see more of her but this is how I'll reconcile myself to her absence...

On the night of August 5, 1956, Sarah's parents found her unconscious and unresponsive in her bedroom and rushed her to the hospital. She awoke in the backseat en route, with no memory of what had happened to her. As reported in a local newspaper, Sarah was one of more than a dozen people in the region who experienced medical distress that evening, apparently connected to a hijacked radio broadcast from the KPJK station, where two people had been found murdered. However, attending physicians found nothing physically wrong with her. Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier

Twin Peaks Extended Media
Whether it is for the lack of knowledge in mainstream Twin Peaks spaces regarding them or how some of these things are hard to get, the extended media of Twin Peaks but especially the books are constantly overlooked and ignored for various reasons.
I had done an (incomplete) index of it that blew up in my original account, and I had redone it (but as a more extensive guide that also included the order to watch the show). However, I changed my mind and decided to redo it, since the third time's a charm, right?
Most of these things include spoilers of the three seasons and the movie, so watch and read at your own risk.
AUDIOBOOKS AND COOPER'S TWIN PEAKS TAPES
The audiobooks consist of Laura's diary, the last two books narrated by cast members of the show, while Cooper's tapes were done by Kyle MacLachlan around the time the show was created, and (believe it or not) earned him a Grammy nomination for it.
Laura Palmer’s Diary (narrated by Sheryl Lee).
Diane: The Twin Peaks Tapes by Agent Cooper (narrated by Kyle MacLachlan).
The Secret History of Twin Peaks (narrated by Mark Frost, Len Cariou, Michael Horse, Mat Hostetler, Amy Shiels, Chris Mulkey, David Patrick Kelly, Robert Knepper, Kyle MacLachlan and James Morrison).
The Final Dossier (narrated by Annie Wersching).
BOOKS AND TEXT
Possibly the most overlooked section in Twin Peaks media. Mostly because some fanboys wrongfully think that because David Lynch didn't write them, it doesn't add to the story and canon, which is a wrong thing to say since these books were written by people involved in the show. Especifically, the writers wrote them and were given notes by Frost and Lynch.
The Secret History and The Final Dossier contain spoilers for the three seasons, so read them at your own discretion.
(*) Laura's diary and Cooper's autobiography are the only texts available in Glastonberry Grove. My recommendation is to copy the text and paste it on a google document, since the PDF has the pages ordered in a way you can later print it and build the book on your own.
The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer (written by Jennifer Lynch)*: Laura's diary is written on the day of her 12th birthday, and ends on February the 23rd, 1989. The book (like Cooper's) is very graphic since Laura has to constantly face BOB in her dreams and in real life, and struggles with how others perceive her as well as harm herself in order to avoid BOB hurting the ones she loves. It does not include the missing pages of her diary.

Glastonberry Grove PDF + Text
Twin Peaks: Access Guide to The Town (by Gregg Almquist, Tricia Brock, Robert Engels, Lise Friedman and Harley Peyton with David Lynch, Mark Frost and Richard Saul Wurman): It's the hardest book to get from the books that were released in the nineties. The Access Guide is somewhat of a predecessor of The Secret History, since it includes some of the origins of Twin Peaks. However, the Access Guide also includes newspaper articles, a donuts recipe, and more fun stuff!
Link of the PDF (It won't show a preview because of how heavy the document is, so simply download it)
The Autobiography of Special Agent Dale Cooper: My Life, My Tapes (written by Scott Frost)*: Cooper's autobiography starts in 1967 and ends on February the 24th, 1989. It featured short interviews from Cooper's friends and other people connected to him and transcripts from his tapes. Like Laura's, Cooper experiences tons of horrifying and sad things, from sexual abuse to murder so reader discretion is advised.

Glastonberry Grove PDF + Text
The Secret History of Twin Peaks (written by Mark Frost): A dossier of Garland Briggs that narrates the history of the town as well as the families that ahve stayed there, alongside relationships in the FBI, it includes letters, menus, classified FBI documents, drawings, fragments of books with notes done by Agent Tamara "Tammy" Preston.
Internet Archive link
The Final Dossier (written by Mark Frost): After the events of The Return, Gordon Cole assigns to Tammy the mission to interview people that were missing in The Return (Annie, Audrey, Donna, Harry, etc).
Internet Archive link
Star Pics Cards: A limited edition series of cards done by the writers of the show including the information of most of the characters, items and spaces featured on the first two seasons (With the exception of Denise Bryson).
Glastonberry Grove index
The Music of Twin Peaks introduction: A small text that came with the album "The Music of Twin Peaks", released in 1990.

MISCELLANEOUS
Blue Velvet (dir. David Lynch, 1986): Some could say this is the predecessor of Twin Peaks, considering Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan), Sandy Williams (Laura Dern) and Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper) are considered prototypes for Cooper, Diane and BOB by Dern, Lynch and MacLachlan. Set in a 50s ambiented town in North Carolina in 1984, Blue Velvet is about a 21 year old college dropout named Jeffrey Beaumont who finds an ear on his way home after visiting his hospitalized father. The movie includes three, very graphic scenes, so watch it at your own risk.
Blue Velvet trailer
Internet Archive link
Mulholland Drive (dir. David Lynch, 2001): Originally going to be an Audrey Horne spin-off for TV, Mulholland Drive is considered to be one of the best films done in history and the best of David Lynch's filmography by many alongside Blue Velvet, Fire Walk With Me and Lost Highway. After Rita (Laura Harring) survives a car accident on Mulholland Drive but suffers mass amnesia, she meets a up-and-coming star Diane (Naomi Watts) who's deeply intrigued about Rita's past, and together, try to solve the mystery of her past.
Mulholland Drive Trailer
Wrapped in Plastic Magazine: Released for the first time in October of 1992, Wrapped in Plastic Magazine is the most recognizable out of the Twin Peaks related magazines that exist since the start of the show. The issues include essays, theories and even interviews to the stars as well as issues dedicated to other shows and movies like The X-Files!
MUSIC
Music is also one of the most important things in the show (and also one of the best things), as it sets the mood and the personality of each character without having to say anything.
In Glastonberry Grove, you can find the music notations of Angelo Badalamenti for Laura’s theme, the music from the intro (also known as the Falling instrumental), Into The Night, Falling, Dance of the Dream Man, Audrey’s Dance and more.
Floating Into The Night (All of the songs but Mysteries of Love, I Float Alone, The Swan, Floating and I Remember are featured in the show) by Julee Cruise.
The first season Soundtrack by Angelo Badalamenti
The second season Soundtrack by Angelo Badalamenti (including unreleased tracks!).
The Double R Jukebox playlist I made taken from the Access Guide! It features most of the songs but since some of them aren’t on Spotify, you can also find it here.
The Fire Walk With Me Soundtrack by Angelo Badalamenti, Julee Cruise and David Lynch.
The Return Soundtrack that features bands like Chromatics to singers like Rebekah del Rio and Eddie Vedder, as well as Julee Cruise and Angelo Badalamenti, of course.
PHOTOS, BEHIND THE SCENES AND DELETED SCENES
A Slice of Lynch: David Lynch interviews Kyle Maclachlan, Mädchen Amick and post-production supervisor John Wentworth to discuss about Twin Peaks.
A Talk with Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee: A preview of an interview Kyle and Sheryl did for the Twin Peaks: From Z to A boxset where they talk about Laura and Cooper.
COOP Visits the set of Twin Peaks: David Lynch, Frank Silva (BOB) and more thank the members of C.O.O.P. for helping save "Twin Peaks" after its close cancellation in 1991.
David Lynch interviews the Palmer family: What it says on the title! Lynch interviews Laura, Leland and Sarah 25 years after Laura's murder. This was done as a way to promote The Missing Pieces DVD, which are the scenes that were cut from Fire Walk With Me.
Fire Walk With Me (+deleted scenes, aka "The Missing Pieces"): The extended version of Fire Walk With Me that features the deleted scenes, considered by many the definitive cut of FWWM.
Fire Walk With Me discussed by David Lynch, Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee: An interview they did in 2003 where they talk about FWWM.
Georgia Coffee commercials: The Georgia Coffee commercials were a series of ads directed by David Lynch for a Japan only Coca-Cola line of canned coffee featuring Cooper and the police station trying to help a mysterious man named Ken, whose girlfriend is stuck in the Black Lodge.
Invitation to Love: In the show, Lucy, Nadine and other characters are obsessed with an exaggerated soap opera named “Invitation to Love”. You can see the whole show (16 minutes) here! The band Her’s named their album “Invitation To Her’s” after this parody.
Kyle MacLachlan Twin Peaks SNL parody: The Twin Peaks parody Kyle MacLachlan did in the episode he hosted of Saturday Night Live in late 1990.
Making Bets: A deleted scene featuring Cooper and Harry set around season two where they make bets on the Seahawks game.
Meet the Makers: A series of interviews with the writers and crew of Twin Peaks.
Mauve Zone: A photo archive featuring promo photos, Richard Beymer's polaroids, polaroids of the actors on the costume tests, behind the scenes footage of the three seasons and the movie, as well as outtakes, spoofs and deleted scenes.
Scenes Deleted: A YouTube channel who uploaded most of the deleted scenes of the first two seasons.
Twin Peaks: The Return behind the scenes: These were short films filmed by Richard Beymer during the production of the return. Most of them are featured in the DVDs of the complete series, but you can find the following on YouTube:

was rewatching your video on the mcelroys and realised we both have the secret history of twin peaks by mark frost! its blurry so idk for sure but its a very distinctive spine haha
oh yeah, i have a bunch of twin peaks books!
Tumblr media
i've actually been rereading the secret diary of laura palmer to get into the right mindset for some future godfeels stuff, it's a FANTASTIC book. i'd recommend it even to people who haven't seen twin peaks, it's just a painfully honest exploration of adolescent sexuality in a world that demonizes sex. written by jennifer lynch with no intervention from david lynch or mark frost! the autobio of dale cooper kinda sucks and the travel guide to twin peaks is basically a rough outline of the secret history, but they're fun in their own ways.
i like the secret history of twin peaks / the final dossier! there's something really interesting about the ebb and flow of authorial influence across twin peaks. season 1 is lynch/frost in balance. season 2 is mostly frost bookended by lynch/frost with a finale that is all lynch. fire walk with me is all lynch. the return is interesting because its development was intermittently lynch/frost, but the final product is all lynch. it's like they met for a tactical meeting, then split off to each create their own ideal version of twin peaks. so the return and secret history next to each other, you can really see where lynch and frost differed in some major ways-- but you can also see all the spots where they clearly agreed, because those spots all tie back to season 1.
i did a video about twin peaks forever ago. it was supposed to be the start of a series, but you know. stuff happened. that said, i still think it's one of my best videos on a lot of levels. i probably won't finish the series directly but i do intend to tie it off in some form eventually.

last song you listened to: Electric Sun by VNV Nation
last movie you watched: Barbie, it's on MAX now so I checked it out again
currently watching: the news
other things you’ve watched this year: Silo, Quantum Leap, Severence, The Morning Show
currently reading: Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier
currently listening to: i mean I have the news on right now but generally? It's been a very Tori Amos year (which is every year tbh but this year I fell in love all over again). Also, fell back in love with VNV Nation when they released their first new album in five years. I'm also getting into Megan Thee Stallion. I am not into that much rap but I like her flow.
currently working on: a fic for my friend Twig, she's my audience of one lol. I don't really write fanfic for mainstream consumption.
current obsession: Twin Peaks for sure. I've been an obsession for like 25 years honestly but I finally watched The Return after waiting for idk, no good reason? But I have Paramount+ with Showtime and saw it on there so I rewatched the first two seasons + Fire Walk With Me before going to The Return. Now I'm reading The Final Dossier which is pretty illuminating and devouring theories and watching it all again from the beginning with my roommates. It's a very rewarding series to rewatch because there's so much that comes together only after you've consumed it all. It's really art in film/tv form, I've always been a fan of Lynch's work because he's interesting and his aesthetics are striking and the music is DIVINE.
It's been REALLY fun sharing it with my roommates. We're on 2x05. One roommate says he has no theories as to who killed Laura, the other says she thinks it's Ben Horne.
BOB is like, maybe the most scary horror villain of all time to me. I love the story of the dude just being a tech that David Lynch plucked up to be his big scary guy.

For any “Twin Peaks” fan whose head is still spinning after Part 18 of “The Return,” consider Mark Frost’s new novel, “Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier,” an essential purchase. The new book is considered canon and helps fill in the 25-year gap between the Season 2 finale and Showtime’s event series. Frost provides some of the answers David Lynch did not, such as what actually happened to Audrey Horne, and the co-writer even goes a step further in setting the final chapter of his book after the events of Part 18.
David Lynch ended “Twin Peaks: The Return” with a baffling final hour that expanded the mythology of the show by raising a hundred new questions. Agent Dale Cooper was granted entry way into the past by Phillip Jeffries to prevent the death of Laura Palmer. Cooper succeeded in preventing Laura from making it to the railroad cart where she was murdered, but sensing an interference with the real timeline, the all-powerful entity known as Judy ripped Laura from our world and brought her…somewhere else.
Many theories believe most of Part 18 is set in this “somewhere else,” which seems to be an alternate dimension where Agent Cooper is now Richard and Laura Palmer is a woman from Odessa, Texas named Carrie Page. The show ended with Page apparently remembering her alternate past as Laura Palmer and letting out a series-ending scream. Frost’s last chapter of “Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier” does not explain what happens next to Page/Palmer and Cooper/Richard, but it is set in a Twin Peaks that is very different than what fans will remember.
Vulture has written out the excerpt below from “The Final Dossier.” The final chapter centers around Agent Tammy Preston (Crysta Bell), who stayed in Twin Peaks for several days after the events of the finale and researched old newspaper articles.
You know what else I discovered, Chief, in that same article, a few sentences later? This:
“Agent Cooper had come to town for a few months earlier, to aid in the investigation into the disappearance, still unsolved, of local teenage beauty queen, Laura Palmer.”
Let me repeat that phrase for you: “still unsolved.” No mention of “murder,” “wrapped in plastic,” or “father arrested for shocking crime eventually dies in police custody of self-inflicted wounds.”
It’s right there on the front page: Laura Palmer did not die. So, fairly certain I’ve not misplaced my own mind, I go back and check the corresponding police records. They tell me this: Laura Palmer disappeared from Twin Peaks without a trace — on the very same night when, in the world we thought we knew, it used to be said she died — but the police never found the girl or, if she had been killed elsewhere, her body or made a single arrest.
When Cooper prevented Laura Palmer from making it to the site of her murder, Lynch made viewers witness scenes from the pilot episode of “Twin Peaks” change. Palmer’s dead body on the beach disappeared into thin air, for instance. Frost’s novel confirms that Cooper succeeded in the real timeline in preventing Palmer’s death as we know it, and the fact that her “disappearance” is still “unsolved” supports the claim that Judy pulled her into an alternate timeline. But because Laura went “missing,” the fate of her family followed a similar path: Her father killed himself out of grief and her mother become a depressed alcoholic with a prescription drug addiction.
The information Frost reveals only makes the ending Lynch created for the series more tragic. Cooper “succeeded” in preventing Laura’s death, but in return his actions led to her disappearance, creating the same unfortunate outcome for the Palmer family in the real timeline. As we saw in Part 18, Cooper then entered the alternate timeline to save Laura all over again and try to fix everything, but we all know how that turned out.

So, you've done a few longer pieces talking about Twin Peaks, and bring up David Lynch a lot, makes sense especially with Fire Walk With Me. Don't know if you've answered this before but, what do you think about Mark Frost's contributions to it? Both the shows and the dossiers. I think that whole Twin Peaks and especially Laura Palmer is clearly part of David's world, Mark is still important and rather under appreciated. It is Lynch Frost Productions after all.
Mark Frost is absolutely important. I feel like a thing that makes Frost feel often lost in Twin Peaks discussions is that most people watching Twin Peaks for David Lynch are fans of his whole filmography, and thus have a more thorough understanding of his style and what he’s bringing to the table, especially since his style is more Out There than Frost’s. More people watching Peaks at this point in time will have watched Blue Velvet and can tell what stuff was brought in from that versus the amount that can do the same with Hill Street Blues.
That being said, you can see a lot of what Frost contributes to the show when you start looking at his contributions specifically - the episodes he’s directed and the books are the main ones. Frost, being a classic television writer, manages to be the one who often grounds the show and structures it. His episodes, in my opinion, tend to really be Twin Peaks at its most TV (complimentary). An emphasis on crime plot, cliffhangers, character moments. The books also shows just how much Frost loves history, both US history and also the history of these characters. I can’t say the books are necessarily highly recommended reads - Secret History is very dense unless you’re a super fan like me and Final Dossier feels more like skimming Wikipedia entries for your favorite characters rather than actually compelling writing. But they both add so much to the world and focus on things you’d never think about, like the history of Big Ed in his high school days or the way Twin Peaks was first settled. If Lynch has his head in the clouds, Frost feels like the one that often grounds it. I would never want to see Twin Peaks done again without both, because both are needed and both are so fun

Continuing on the Gravity Falls-Twin Peaks connection theme….
I have not finished season two of Twin Peaks yet, I watched the first one right before the holidays and got the watch-an-episode-at-X-time pattern broken before the end, but I have read both of the Twin Peaks dossier books. As a result, I can say that:
1) I suspect, or at least it amuses me to imagine, that “The Secret History of Twin Peaks” was partially a shout-out back to GF, given the similarities of the Archivist’s Dossier to the Journal and how it was published shortly after GF aired its finale, and
2) I have figured out a life plan, y’all. I shall make up a town where an inquiring outsider comes to stay, gets drawn into the Disturbingly Weird Dimension, and then comes back - so far, just copying what a character per each of the shows tagged in this post did. My Great Original Twist will be that it turns out the returning figure has *both* an evil doppelgänger (like Coop) *and* an estranged identical twin (like Ford). And then an agent who is a composite of a few people absolutely loses his mind trying to figure out who to arrest, since all three have evidence to support the idea that he is the real ‘Standale Coopford’, at which point our government-aligned friend is initiated into a secret society of literacy-promoting hypnotists. I’ll be rich! Well, maybe that’s a bit much…I’ll be successful! Or…okay, too ambitious, or at least too subjective of a term. I’ll…at least have a cult following? Maybe?

Some notes, if you‘re planning on doing Daily Twin Peaks:
Rewatchers, please tag your spoilers for both FWWM and Twin Peaks, in general!  There will likely be first-time watchers!
First-time watchers, make sure you block those tags!  While FWWM IS a prequel, make sure you watch it AFTER the original run!  Not only does it spoil the main mystery, but it also includes stuff introduced later.  Also, make sure to watch the Log Lady intros.  If you don’t have the Blu-Rays, they can be found on YouTube.
Here are the days I have determined each episode of the original run to take place:
Pilot: Fri, Feb 24, 1989
Episode 1: Sat, Feb 25, 1989 (the second episode)
Episode 2: Sun, Feb 26, 1989
Episode 3: Mon, Feb 27, 1989
Episode 4: Tue, Feb 28, 1989
Episode 5: Wed, Mar 1, 1989
Episode 6: Thu, Mar 2, 1989
Episode 7: Thu, Mar 2, 1989 (the same day as Episode 6, the seventh episode)
Episode 8: Fri, Mar 3, 1989
Episode 9: Sat, Mar 4, 1989
Episode 10: Sun, Mar 5, 1989
Episode 11: Mon, Mar 6, 1989
Episode 12: Tue, Mar 7, 1989
Episode 13: Wed, Mar 8, 1989
Episode 14: Thu, Mar 9, 1989
Episode 15: Fri, Mar 10, 1989
Episode 16: Sun, Mar 12, 1989 (note the time skip)
Episode 17: Wed, Mar 15, 1989 (note the time skip)
Episode 18: Thu, Mar 16, 1989
Episode 19: Fri, Mar 17, 1989
Episode 20: Sat, Mar 18, 1989
Episode 21: Sun, Mar 19, 1989
Episode 22: Mon, Mar 20, 1989
Episode 23: Tue, Mar 21, 1989
Episode 24: Wed, Mar 22, 1989
Episode 25: Thu, Mar 23, 1989
Episode 26: Fri, Mar 24, 1989
Episode 27: Sat, Mar 25, 1989
Episode 28: Sun, Mar 26, 1989
Episode 29: Mon, Mar 27, 1989
Rewatchers can pretty much sandwich the original run between FWWM (Feb 23) and TMP (Mar 28), but, below the cut, I have broken those down into days.
First-time watchers, for the books, I recommend the following order:
S1
Episode 8 (the ninth episode)
Diane… (short tape/audiobook)
S2
Access Guide to the Town (book)
My Life, My Tapes (book)
The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer (book)
Fire Walk With Me
The Missing Pieces
The Secret History of Twin Peaks (book)
The Return (S3)
The Final Dossier (book)
Alright, here are some timecodes for FWWM, if you want to break it down into days (things get weird with the timeline):
And scene numbers for TMP:
Tue, Feb 9, 1988: 21
Wed, Feb 10, 1988: 1; 2
Thu, Feb 11, 1988: 3; 4; 5
Fri, Feb 12, 1988: 6
