I had the strangest encounter on my walk earlier...

mini rant

Im trying out new art programs, after using medibang paint on my phone for at least 8 years.

at first I had few complaints,

font options were impossible to see without first generating the text, and then you couldn't edit the font of existing texts.

for some reason there was no canvas symmetry option !? there was a symmetry pen, but everytime you lift your pen, the center point changes.

and it's a bit picky, but i found there to be a lack of interesting brush shapes

but over time (mainly the last couple years) it has really gone downhill for me. :(

for starters, ads, everytime you open the app, save your file, sometimes just in the middle of you working. this alone I could get over pretty easy, I grew up in the golden age of mobile game ads.

but then they locked some of the brushes behind a pay wall,, granted there is an option to watch an ad to use the feature for 3 hours but this is still egregious in my eyes.

the straw breaking my back was a file error. it couldn't open my project through the normal methods, but then when I did get it open, it would only work for like max 3 minutes before crashing. very fortunately, I was basically done already, but now I've decided medibang paint just isn't reliable enough for me anymore :/

they did add a time-lapse feature, which i really appreciated ! that's a plus ig.

anyway, artists are so cool. looking at all these other programs reminds me just how bad our materials often are. like unless you're paying for photoshop,, oh boy, do we know how to make do. mspaint art is so cool, but the people who make mspaint art are even cooler or something like that.

,also, i need to see an art program (mobile specifically) with more interface customization.
