last year me and my family were somehow spread all over different places- not worlds apart but also not like having a quick coffe tuesday afternoon in our old hometown munich. so when I came to munich for a weekend I mostly met my family in the city for lunch, a walk and coffee- developing almost a routine. so here are two places between traditional and contemporary, which all can be included in a relaxed sightseeing trip, city day or museum stroll.
when I moved away from munich I developed all of a sudden a suprisingly nostalgic appetite for bavarian Weißwurst- a bavarian white veal sausage, traditionaly eaten for brunch with a cross Prezel (in munich its called “resche Brezn”) and Weißbier (Wheatbeer). I think it´s a phenomena the most unpatriotic, travelling, abraod-living person will experience sooner or later. for a friend of mine living in New York it´s the bavarin Leberkas’ (a special kind of meat loaf) and for almost all my friends who once lived in munich its a fresh Prezl with butter. I don´t like the bavarian restaurants in the city center but I discovered a wonderful and quaint place for a Weißwurst-Breakfast. the TURMSTÜBELR-im-KARL-VALENTIN-MUSÄUM. the little coffee is situated in the tower of the ISARTOR, an ancient city gate, offering traditional food, snacks and coffe between vintage dishes and all kinds of old, pretty furniture.
after some refreshment we liked to stroll up to VIKTUALIENMARKT and stop for coffee in the little booth of the KAFFEE RÖSTEREI. perfect barista coffee and a sustainable philosophy from the heart of munich are always worth a short coffee break + watching munich city life on the market and listening to what people from near and far are chatting about is just inspiring…
…meanwhile, its probably afternoon and so we decided to vistit an exhibition or maybe do some shopping. on my way home I always liked to walk down HOHENZOLLERN STRASSE in SCHWABING, for I love windowshopping at the many boutiques and the lively athmosphere in the heart of Schwabing…

today my photo of Aristotelous Square on a sunny day in march was featured by InTHESSALONIKI.COM, a city guide presenting all facets of this vibrant city and its surrounding. a good opportunity to once again speak out for this ever changing city I fell in love with over the past years. in fact it was Greece and especially Saloniki where I thought about this thing of having "a happy place" the first time and where I started this blog initiative- more for myself but keeping the promotion of this beloved place in my mind. so be prepared! there is much more about this place I will write about, meanwhile just book a flight and discover this young, urban city on your own! the ones letting oneself in for the city heartbeat will experience a diverse, lively and hospitable place to be.
Thanks InTHESSALONIKI.COM for featuring my photo on Instagram, FB ..ASO!!!!

throwback venice biennale 2015
.. I left the Arsenale through a back entrance and found myself in the narrow streets of Castello. Pale sun rays painted long shadows along my walk under laundry, drying in the chilly November air. It was so peaceful around me, that I heard my steps trailing away in the alleys. Only once in a while you could hear clanging dishes or the hammering from some workshop near by. That's Venice to me.

some tastes and flavors of the greek fast
yesterday in greece the lenten period before easter started with the “Clean Monday” - Καθαρά Δευτερά (Kathara Deftera). For those practicing the fast eggs, dairy, meat and oil are not allowed but let me tell you- this time of the year too offers a great culinary experience, for certain dishes are only made now from a range of seasonal vegetables, grains and seafood like squid or mussels as these are said to be “bloodless”. all this is accompanied by a range of pastries and- here comes the best part- sweets. My all-time favorite is HALVA, in greece a soft, delicious semolina cake with syrup. More common and everywhere on the markets to buy is HALVA WITH TAHINI. it comes in block form, pure or with nuts or chocolate and is sold by weight to be served as breakfast or dessert. these tastes again are telling from the multicultural heritage of greece- mingling flavors of the near east, the balkan and the mediterranean.
the pictures are from my visit to Thessaloniki last march. the famous bakery TERKENLIS at Metropoleos Street offers a range of lenten pastries like Halva Tahini, Grissini and Kourabiedes- butter cookies with almonds and typical for all holidays.

i love long walks on golden fall days. promenading through a beautiful park, the sound of red and yellow leaves under my feet, a clear sky above me. it always gives me a nostalgic feeling, thinking of audrey hepburn and givenchy strolling along the Seine in paris, rocking her pair of oversized sunglasses… this time i embraced some french joie-de-vivre in the wide baroque park of Sanssouci palace in potsdam. were do you love to stroll on a sunny fall day?
🍁Sanssouci Palace and Park, potsdam-brandenburg, germany.(close to berlin city). the entrance to the park is free.

aperitivo!… cos'altro?
i’m a maniac when it comes to the perfect aperitivo and italy is unbeaten in creating it. but last weekend, somewhere in the alpine foothills of Chiemgau, i had an aperitivo-ephihany. mondino is the nothern version of a bitterino (plus it's organic and handmade. say what?!) it’s soft texture and slight bitter notes from alpine herbs create an aroma that matches bracing the climate north of the alps. mixed as a classic sprizz with vino spumante it was the perfect start for a delicious dinner, while outside a foggy autumn evening started to dawn. already my treat for long winter evenings with friends. salute!
i tryed the Mondino Sprizz at the Herrmannsdorfer Wirtshaus, located in the Herrmannsdorfer Landwerkstaetten for organic meat delicacies and more. herrmannsdorf 7, 85625 glonn, (near munich) www.herrmannsdorfer.de/das-wirtshaus

ein samstag in florenz. rückblick, part 2
…

What a beautiful, beautiful day!

embrace the day. brunch at Rakentia, folégandros
it was a windy but clear and sunny august morning when we snuggled into our chairs at Rakentia. the all white café and bar is situated at the rocks of the wild nothern coast of the island, with a view to Castro, the old castle of the town, and over the terraced hills down to the deep blue sea. rakentia is THE place for brunch on Folégandros. omelets, fried eggs, greek yogurt with fruits, smoothies or a fresh toasted sandwich… the variety of the menus is mouthwatering, believe me. the speciality are the omelets and fried eggs, which are baked in the oven and comes with all kinds of fresh sides.
after this tasty start you might want to hit the road to Angali and hop on a boat to the fantastic bay of Livadaki, with its marble rocks to soak up the sun.
