Realizing that every character in tgcf mirrors Hc and XL. Like, we all know about the parallels with HX/SQX and QYZ/YY but consider:

Pei Su/Ban Yue: boy ascends after destroying a city with the help of his soon-to-be-ghost gf. Basically what would’ve happened if XL managed to destroy Yong An (with Ban Yue playing the role of Wu ming)

Qi Rong/Gu Zi: prince is evil and kinda crazy but his kid still loves him the same. I think this is what could’ve happened if xl became evil but Wu Ming remained by his side.

Ling Wen/Bai Jing: boy is extremely devoted to futur heavenly official, ready to die for her; or what would’ve happened if xl abused hc’s devotion

Jun Wu/Mei nian qing: after being betrayed by his people, young ascended crown prince goes ape - shit, his bestie is not vibing with it => if hc had abandonned xl, resulting in him becoming the white calamity

Feng Xin/Jian Lian: after being banished from heaven, boy works hard to ascend, his gf dies :( : this one is a little far-fetched but I think it’s what would have happened if after his banishment xl managed to ascend again and didn’t need hc, who decided he didn’t want to bother xl and left him alone
