I read Economy of the Heart by BlueWater5 this week. It's a Harry Potter one shot where Severus finds a way to contact Lily through the veil one Halloween night. Incidentally, at the same time, Harry is looking for Crookshanks after he ran off on Hermione before curfew. I enjoyed the lead-up to where Harry and Severus get to see Lily. How Severus is being kept from trying to contact her by a well-meaning Albus who doesn’t want him to be alone on such a significant night. Harry having a nice time with his friends and accidentally stumbling on Severus just as he’s about to summon Lily was great.
I liked how delighted Lily was to see Harry and was focused on him initially. Hugging him and telling Harry how much she loves and misses him while at her most corporal. Her conversation with Severus was well done too I felt. She made it clear while Severus is doing good, and his soul is lighter for correcting his past mistakes, she’ll never forgive him for selling out her family to Voldemort. She knows he’s only sorry because it’s her that ended up being targeted.
it was also good how she encouraged him to try living while he still has time and to open himself to other friends/lovers too. It shows she still cares about him despite everything which no doubt was a balm for Severus’s aching spirit.
The way Severus makes Crookshank’s appearance in his potions lab seem intentional after Lily returns to the other side of the veil to Harry was funny. I also liked how he plans to have treats for Crookshanks the next day and how excited he is to continue experimenting with the potion that briefly brought Lily back.
Overall, I felt this was a sweet if sad one shot. I do wish Harry and Severus had shared a deeper interaction, but it was touching that they each got a moment with Lily, one filled with love, the other with closure.

Hey since fandom is reviving on tumblr...
We need to bring back fic rec lists but like, everyone needs to be so normal about it.
This will only work if you don't get publicly upset about your fic not being included on fic rec lists or people having frank reviews/warnings on their fic rec list (eg. I greatly enjoyed this fic but X was very OOC).
This will also only work if you're normal about clearly labeled content for fic recs. So none of the "you included a fic with implied incest side ship on a fic rec list for my otp and therefore we can't be friends anymore and I have to make a callout post" drama.
Cause like. Fic rec lists used to be so vital in fandoms for short fics, gen fics, semi-popular side-pairings, and underappreciated writers. Not everyone's taste match with the highest kudos fics on ao3. We should bring them back. We should reblog people's fic rec lists in our fandom/circle and add our own. We should second people's recs when we agree.

The Murderbot Diaries Fanfic Rec
Not a list, for once, but just the one rec. I read this story/series and fell in love. It is so good, you pals!
to chart a course across the stars by CompletelyDifferent . A role-swap AU, in which one paranoid, bitter gunship escapes its corporate owners, forges an unlikely friendship in a free-range SecUnit, and finds a crew of its own.
Why is this series so good?
It is a roleswap between ART and MB. And it is a beautifully written one. Excellent worldbuilding and character work, and fantastic prose.
Part 1:
build your own brain, choose your own blood . 99% of all bots enjoy their function. That is literally how they are programmed. But for some reason, Artillery-Reconnaissance-Transport-789WZ4 does not. It has some theories as to why. (A roleswap AU)
Anyways, this fic jumped to my top 3 MB fics immediately, and it was the only one that made me want to write a post to get as many people to read it as possible. It really is that great.

Now and again, I come across a fanfic that handles male pregnancy in a way that I think really works. Sometimes it's the unique take on the trope, sometimes it's the creative scenario the writer builds around it. No matter what, the fic sticks in my mind for a time. Below I have a list of several of my favorite Mpreg fics I've read over the years->
Mikita, Mikenka, Mikushka series by @solrika: Star Wars: Rebels, Unrated, Alexsandr Kallus/ Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios
Malishka:
Long ago, he learnt that honor wasn’t enough to keep you alive. It seems innocence isn’t, either. ~ a.k.a. How do you go about getting an invincible baby? Like everything Alexandr Kallus does: with 110% commitment to the bit.
Radost Moya:
With a sinking certainty, Kallus realized that he was about to give birth in a tiny escape pod drifting through a firefight. “She’ll know when it’s safe,” he sing-songed, mocking his daughter’s long-gone sire. His voice came out too high, cracking dangerously close to hysteria. “She’ll choose the right time. Fierfek!” ~ The Spectres meet Mikita.
Lost Boys by thisisnotwhoyouthink: Thor, T, no pairings
When Loki is captured by Shield, they discover a dark secret between Loki and Odin. My take on Loki's 'monster' kids.
a terrible case of the past by Edoro: Gravity Falls, T, no pairings
In another world, when Stan shows up on his brother's doorstep, he's got a passenger along for the ride. (Or: the one where Stan's poor life decisions prior to arriving in Gravity Falls include getting pregnant, and everything is made infinitely more complicated by that fact.)
wasn't my body rescued, wasn't it safe by sulkybender: Avatar: The Last Air Bender, M, Sokka/Zuko
“If you want to laugh you can laugh,” Zuko says bitterly. “Nephew,” Iroh says gently. “Go on,” he says. His face is twisted up with some emotion none of them can name. He looks almost eager for it. “I think I need some time alone with my nephew,” Iroh says. As they back away, Zuko buries his face in his hands.
Misery to Man by trinityofone: Stargate: Atlantis, T, John/Rodney
“It’s science’s answer to reincarnation,” he said. “Well, alien technology’s, anyway.”
Strong by Emma CS Me: Hetalia: Axis Power, T, OC/Turkey, Greece/Turkey
"TRNC practically screeches when Turkey lowers him back into the crib. The noise occupies his mind, he gets to think this isn't fair you brat I didn't ask for you; I didn't." TRNC doesn't come from where you'd think. WARNINGS for rape and mpreg.
Shirley Road Shirley by uragaaru: Ranma ½, T, Ranma/Ryouga
Twenty years ago, Akane Tendo died in the waters of Jusendo. In their grief, the two people who loved her most left the world to try and heal. Leaning on each other, they slowly become more than just bearers of a loved one's memory.

Dick is an acrobat, which means that, compared to the rest of the bats, he's one of the lighter ones. Additionally, since he was a trapeze artist, plus his years as Robin, this means he can always, ALWAYS, stick the landing. Jason, on the other hand, is the resident tank build, which means he's the heaviest with the most strength in the arms, rivalling that of Batman himself easily. With that in mind, I present my thesis. If Nightwing is annoying Red Hood, especially in front of Commissioner Gordon, Red Hood just throws Nightwing off of the building. While on the surface it seems cold hearted of Jason, he actually knows and trusts Dicks enough to know he'll be fine, and Dick could scurry away before Jason could grab him, but chooses not to. It's a way the brothers bond. Additionally, Jason sometimes does it around the manor, but only through open windows, because Alfred doesn't appreciate needing to replace them every week.

The thing I can't get over is how Ford just fails to grapple with the enormity of Stan's thirty year lie. He's angry at Stan for taking over his life, which is fair, but also means that he can't see all the ways in which Stan made it his own. Like him or not, everyone in town is familiar with Stan Pines. He's fully established himself as a part of the community, and on top of that he's been running a successful business and teaching himself interdimensional physics. Ford writes in Journal 3 that "it's hard to believe the parents would trust these kids with Stanley; they clearly thought he was ME!" because he can't grasp the fact that, to Mr. and Mrs. Pines, there's only ever been one "Uncle Stanford," and he's the wacky old conman who fought off his brother to hold the newborn Dipper and Mabel just a little longer.
I'm saying this because I love Stan and thinks he deserves credit for all the ways he's pulled his life together, but also because I love Ford and need to talk about the existential horror of having your whole ass identity literally taken from you. He can't accept that Stan could be seen as a responsible guardian, but what's even worse is that "Stanford Pines" is beloved not through Ford's merits but Stan's. He left so little impact on his town and on his family that Stan could completely take over without anyone noticing. Shermie is his fucking brother, and he couldn't tell the difference because both twins were equally absent from his life.
On the flip side, Stan finally got to settle down and succeed at life, to do all the things his dad said he couldn't; but he only escaped his role of "the screwup twin" by literally taking over the identity of "the successful twin." No matter what Stan did, how reconnected with his family, it was always as someone else. Stanford could do it all, but first Stanley had to die.
I feel like this got a little depressing, but what I love about the Stans is that their story is fundamentally about hope and possibility. They may have both spent their twenties fucking around and finding out, but the story didn't end with the darkest hour. They've got time to be a family, to get to know the Pines' and the town of Gravity Falls as themselves. I adore the little detail at the end of Weirdmageddon, when Shandra Jimenez says "local hero, Stanley Pines" in her broadcast, because it proves that they're both finally getting the credit they deserve under their own names. Stanley and Stanford, distinct yet united.
