Concept Statement
From the beginning of the industrial revolution, people have to been extending our range of technologies and discover various ways where it can be used to be better suited in our lifestyle and raise our living standard to maximum. In other to do so, people are forced to learn and adopt the ‘new’ way of living alongside with media. When television had started to be common as a home appliance, people can not only gain information concerning society, government, international news as well as enjoy their home entertainments such as soap drama, music channel etc. These ways, even women and children can have access to a wider perspectives about the world they lived in, hence changed the status of these group in society as well as the structure of society. Through television, we are provoked to think of Marshall McLuhan’s saying – ‘Medium is the Message’, as the introduction television transformed the structure of society, yet performed as an artwork where producers thought, advertisement and news can be shown. At the same time, television can also be described as a passive medium where our choices of which program to watch, our favourite channel and the time we watch creates television as an artwork we can choose.
To fully understand what is ‘digital media’, we must research and explore way more than just technology like television and radio, but also the nowadays’ social media platform available such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, blogs and forum. As internet explorer and webpages being available, we are able to received first-hand information despite our location, creating the world as a global village. This is then transformed to a network where people are able to express their feeling and emotions towards a certain political events, or an action of an organisation, creating a pieces of art that’s not only belong to just one individual, but a group of people that shared common view and perspective. Likewise, according to Raymond Williams who introduced the idea of technological determinism, he viewed digital media as an “unconscious social needs” – where people are desire to stay with on with the trend of community and are scared of being left behind. This idea I think is a main drive of our reliance on digital media and creates our society alike an artwork.
In the beginning of my assessment, I examined the idea of context of digital media and its transformation over time through research of various media form – magazine, newspaper, Facebook and Twitter. It is then when I realised people uses media to communicate, express their thought very similarly despite their time and context. However, differences can still be witness as people are more self-conscious about people’s perspective of them from before. This has become one of the negative effects of digital media as people become desiring and engaging on how many people ‘like’ or ‘comment’ their status. This then affect the content of each digital media and creating an effect that spread like virus. One of many example is uploading of ‘vine’ video on Facebook to gain more recognition.
As my body of work, I uses two different types of media – letters and magazine and overlap the digital media available nowadays – Facebook and Twitter. By having magazine as a background for my illustrations, Facebook features are presented, this shows the complexity of digital media bought to contemporary society amongst with the existing form of media. Similar with this idea, the letter with the twitter page as background suggests the way of news were delivered in the past and compare and contrast the way digital media provided us with information. However, I think it is necessary to acknowledge that no matter what the time and context people are in, media have been and always will be presented as an artwork created by society to inform, entertain and reminds us of everyday happening around the world. Through the exploration of the question in this perspective, I believe that the consequences of digital media will be continuously improving to maximise our living standard as well as extend future generation knowledge. However, there is one question we must ask ourselves: is the artwork of digital media today created by individuals, society and government in contemporary society able to endlessly exist?

Weekly Experiment 3 - Context and Time
When talking about digital media, we automatically think of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as it became a part of of social life. Through these platforms, we are able to make connection with others, express our emotions and feelings, however, these might be just effects of social unconscious need to fit in in a community. For this theme, i have recorded the amount of time I went on Facebook for two days, reasons for going on and the time. Through this record, it can be seen that these media is constantly involve in our daily life, no matter how some the reason is - by this, i mean any form of media as we desire and learnt to be acknowledge by people we know despite of the time and context we are in.

Weekly experiment 2 - Value
No matter if it is an old form of media such as radio, magazine, newspaper and old format of television or new form of social media available to us nowadays, its content/message remain the same - that is creating a platform for people to enjoy and relax, as well as expressing themselves. However, with the technology constantly evolving and improving, it provides us with greater and wider perspective on a a particular objects and events. In this experiment, I wrote emotional words and description I found on Facebook written by my friends, pages over the past few days. After wishing it 5 times, those words still remain on my arm, much like the value and culture that we grow up believing. This shows the idea where it is digital media or not, the value and message remains similar.

weekly experiment 1 - desire
As digital media getting more involved in our daily routine, the desire of purely expressing our emotions and feelings to a particular activity we did or feel is changing its form as audience and viewers can easily 'comment' and 'like' our status, photo and video. These digital media has significantly changes some people perspective as an artwork we post up on social media platforms to express ourselves are not merely about that, but getting more likes and comments. In this experiment, i posted up a photo on Instagram and see how many 'like' I can received from viewers and through it, it suggests the way medium changes the way we view ourselves as well as the content of the message is getting more widely and openly accepted.

Annotated Bibliography 4 - Apple's iphone and its history.
As my last annotation, the object that influences my poster the most is iphone. In term of digital media, the product is constantly consumed by people is our smart phone. With such design, it allows us create our whole storage and platform to create a space where we feel comfortable with. This object not only impact on our life as well as their own competitions such as Samsung and LG.
In addition, iphone and other smart phones are like our own artwork which we created to make ourselves visual in society and personalise to expresses our feeling and emotion towards particular events we had, much like artwork to an artist. Therefore, this inspired me to have my poster in the shape of an iphone to represent the changes on the perspective of arts and design when it comes to digital media.

The Social Network by David Fincher (2011). This movie not only describes the man striking for success in the newly developed online network, it also portrays how online network/ digital media can easily affects our life in terms of dreams and beliefs, as it did for the main character.
While i was watching this movie, i feel this matches the answer i have been looking for as the social media platform - Facebook, which we use daily, is an art work itself that shows the spaces we created for ourselves to express our emotions as well as create our own design.  This can be seen as one of many already happened consequence we faced today due the introduction of digital media.

Annotated Bibliography 2
Marshall McLuhan's maxim 'Medium is the Message'. In this article,McLuhan talks about how media itself contain message of its own and it reflects on our daily routine and changes in society. In terms of Digital Media in contemporary society, the phrase 'Medium is the Message' portrays how the media such as social media platform, movies, music and video influences our daily life and it contain message of its own concerning our way of life and how it differ from previous generation.
This article not only shows and answers part of my question, it also displays how people in contemporary society is influenced by our usage of media via laptop, computer and mobile phone instead of it being influence by us. it's not only our main focus in life but also the people who had become due to constant contact with digital media.

One Piece Animation; This is an animation that is an inspiration to me when comes to digital media. Anime, in no doubt, is one of many topic when comes to talk about digital media and its influence in our day-to-day routine. As a medium, Animation simplifies our belief, dreams and daily life into vivid colours and images, impacted on our perspectives on the things we do as well as the way we think. Similarly, it enhances artists and designers to reach out of new way of designing and delivering their message to audiences when it comes to digital media.

iteration 5 as my final iteration, i came to realisation that there are no way of erasing words and alphabets completely when communication want to be done. So, i decided to create a new alphabet in erasing and replacing the normal alphabets. this iteration is under the influence of chinese artist - xu bing. while i was doing this experiment, i found it interesting as i realised how easy it is to invent a new language. i think this is a effective experiment as this could removes and erase the old alphabets.

Iteration 4 As my 4th iteration, i decided to take a different approach and took an extract from my favourite book - my sister's keeper and translate some words into emoji as erasure of words and alphabets. I found this experiment quite interesting as the frequencies of smartphone users replace words with emoji in their day to day conversation. This experiment was influenced by Xu Bing as one of his work is a story only using symbols and action figure.

iteration 3
As my third iteration, i decided to take a step further to observe and experience the erasure of words and alphabets through every day communications. By erasing my ability to speak, I was only able to communicate with others through pen and paper, which made it very time consuming and difficult. However, what i found with this experiment was rather ineffective in delivering the concept of erasure of words and alphabets cause i am using the same way of communication, only without the ability to say it out loud. My experiment was influence by Miyazaki's film where the character was unable to communicate to others on what she like to say most. This inspires me to experience and undertake this experiment.

iteration 2
After erasing words from magazine, i came to realization that it is not an effective experiment as people nowadays rely more heavily on their use of media and technology. So i decided to experiment around technology we used the most in our daily life - that is keyboard. By editing and erasing my keyboard, I achieve to disconnect people's way of communication online under the influence of Dinh Q. Le. This cut of people's constant relying on what have been given - alphabets appear on keyboard. Yet, at the end of this experiment, i think that this is a fail experiment as this does not completely achieve erasure of word.

1st iteration - Erasure
The central idea of my assessment is the erasure of word and the effect of it in our everyday life. So first of all, I began my experiment with erasing words from a magazine and see if the magazine is still able to read. This may be a simple process, but I think it is an effective experiment on erasure of word. Under the influence of Christain Capurro and his work, I chose to remove words that start with the letter – T, but not the whole magazine because my idea was to experiment around the concept of erasing words and alphabets, not an item or magazine itself. However, I do not think this is a complete and excellent experiment as I do not see it as a creative experiment.
