Kiki’s Delivery Service is one of those movies that I feel any aspiring artist should see. The struggle of Kiki in this movie is one that ANYONE who wants to further themselves goes through, that transition from taking what you love to do to something that you make a living off of.

As artists we have all been in the place where Kiki is. That place where we can’t draw anything right, can’t paint anything right, can’t sculpt anything right, that place where everything comes out wrong over and over and we begin to question if we’re actually good enough for the talents and skills that used to come to us like second nature when we were just using them for fun. That place where we want to give up because we suddenly can’t ‘fly’ like we want to, because everything seems too difficult to do that. 

But that doesn’t mean it isn’t there, just because it isn’t working right then and there when you want it to be. If you can always fly, then it wouldn’t make those times when you did as special. It isn’t necessarily easy to grow up, nor is it necessarily easy to live with the artistic struggle of losing inspiration. But you can’t just throw up your hands and say ‘No, I can’t do it anymore’ because you’ll NEVER fly if you do that. 

You gotta wobble before you stand.

okay just making a big public text post since so many people still don’t seem to realize: tumblr totally changed their deleted url. now, with the new way, NO ONE IS ABLE TO CLAIM A DELETED URL EXCEPT THE ORIGINAL OWNER.

i’m assuming they did this to prevent blog hacking for the purposes of url deletion and theft, which was a problem in the past. and also because once they moved their “blog delete” button it caused a huge wave of ppl accidentally deleting their blogs then having their urls immediately snatched up.

so now, if your blog is deleted, you can get back your old url whenever. you don’t have to worry about someone stealing it. if you’re switching one of your secondary blog urls to your main, you don’t have to worry about it getting deleted, since they’re under you and the email you signed up with so no one else can take them.

now, as far as giving away urls to other tumblr users, this can still be done. it’s just now a more complex but actually much more secure process, since again, you don’t have to worry about some random stranger grabbing it in the few moments it would be deleted.

now, if you are giving away a url, this is how you do it so it works with the new deleted url policy:

invited the person as a member to your secondary blog (under the url you’re giving them, of course) via email. it must be to the email they signed up to tumblr with, as far as i know.

once they’ve accepted the membership, you must promote them to an admin so they can have control over the blog and membership.

lastly, you take yourself off as a member. the blog now belongs to the new owner, and there was no risk of a stranger stealing it in between!

In 2013, during an interview with Danny Gallegos, singer of gloomy Chicago punk group Cemetery, I asked him how he’d categorize his band. I wondered if he thought the term “dark punk” was appropriate.

It was a term that was coming into currency at the time, as a way to describe a new community of former hardcore bands who were playing music closer in style to deathrock and post-punk. “I hate the term ‘dark punk,‘” Gallegos responded, “because to me that’s redundant. Punk should already be dark. There’s always been a message behind punk that is very bleak and dark in nature.

”But the “dark punk” designation stuck, and not just for Cemetery. It’s jockeyed with other genre tags—goth-punk, deathrock revival, the tongue-in-cheek “G-beat“—to identify a style of darkwave-, post-punk- and anarcho-influenced punk that’s grown out of the hardcore scene since the late aughts, and which gained intensity around 2010-2012.

It still continues today. The revival’s early years saw important releases by acts like Lost Tribe, Belgrado, Spectres, Arctic Flowers, Bellicose Minds, and Bluecross…
