The Bees of Belltown! This is video footage from last Saturday at the Belltown P-patch. It is on Elliott and Vine in downtown Seattle. http://www.seattle.gov/neighborhoods/programs-and-services/p-patch-community-gardening/p-patch-list/belltown It is half of a city block with 2 houses that used to be artist in residence housing. https://www.thestranger.com/seattle/belltown-diary/Content?oid=18729221 But apparently the two are now rented out by the city? (who knows, the Stranger article I read was from a few years ago) The additional third house is used by the P-Patch community. If you are in Belltown or down by the waterfront in Seattle, I highly recommend this lovely spot. Next door to it used to be my favorite building in Seattle. This building was a bit decripit/run down, an old 2 story unreinforced masonry built long ago. It looked like it was abandoned and being squatted by an eclectic artist. Vines and bushes abounded around it, untamed and magestic. Many months ago, Michael & I strolled by it. I remember taking it all in. Snapping some photos. I was pretty sure it was the last time I would see it. It looked as though the artist had moved out, their outside potted plants abandoned. The tapestry in the window torn and faded. It now looked like a place for ghosts. It turns out, I was right, the building is now gone. It’s a parking lot now. The only evidence of the building is one remaining front stone where it was. We spoke to a gardener at the P-Patch and found out the artist moved to Bremerton where he had bought a house. The gardener wasn’t sure what was happening with the lot, it is inherited down the family line a bit. I will miss the building. I will miss the recognition that an artist was still surviving in the middle of this incredibly expensive city where a 1000 square feet will easily go for $3600+ a month in this area. The artist must’ve had close to double that square footage and there was still parking for sale. I hope that artist was squatting or renting for next to nothing! I hope that’s how he saved up money to buy that house in Bremerton. Maybe that’s the next spot for an artists haven, Bremerton. Seattle the boomtown for Amazon (barf!). Nevertheless, I rejoice that the community garden is going strong. (Quite possibly tended by some people from the fore mentioned tech community, so I guess I need to say thank you to them…) It is a little oasis in the city! Enjoy the bees of Belltown!

This is my good friend, Bully. He is my Aunt Jeannie & Uncle Dick’s bulldog. He is very bossy & large & slobbers & thinks he is a lap dog. He is hilarious & joyful & smelly. I adore him. We fell in love the first time we met. He is a rescue. He was saved from a Meth house. I wanted to bring him back with me on the plane to Seattle. He would’ve needed his own seat! He is my Uncle Dick’s companion. He loves everyone. I am very lucky to know him. (My Cousin Mike’s Rottweiler, Harley is to the left. I just met her. We made friends but it will take some time. She is a rescue as well. Some morning reading on our precious human life from Joyful Path of Good Fortune. From a Buddhist perspective, it is very rare to be born a human. I’ve been working on my anger problem lately and it’s a good reminder to keep at it. Practicing patient acceptance (accepting the way things are) instead of caving into anger plants good seeds for the future. The thought that a former self may have practiced some pure moral discipline in the past so that I could have this present precious human life is encouraging. Late night for me, talking on the phone to a dear friend in Portland, OR. Time to turn off the lights and go to bed. Reminds me of the days, I would hang out on my porch in Portland and write and talk on the phone until all hours of the night. It is a precious thing to have such harmonious and close relationships with people in my life. I feel very blessed. I wish you all a wonderful weekend. My work day yesterday was bookended by visiting nurseries in North Seattle (Sky Nursery) and Snohomish County (Molbaks). A vandal broke one of my client’s pots in front of their office, so I’ve been on a mission to find replacements. I haven’t been to Molbak’s in Woodinville in a really long time. I was blown away by the smaller pottery they had, so unique & precious. Their displays were very impressive. Worth a trip if you like nurseries! And after Molbak’s take a saunter up to Flower World in Maltby & pet the goats & pick up some local produce! The surprising sun the last couple days has been a joy. It's been a little over a year since my friend & poetry teacher died. Mr. Amil David Quayle. I was fortunate to be able to visit his favorite spot to take me, Upper Mesa Falls. I was lucky to have a local, Betty VanNewkirk, to take me. Amil would always whisk me & whatever companion was with me, off to local areas in Eastern Idaho. Kilgore, the Sand Dunes, Cave Falls, Upper & Lower Mesa Falls, the mouth of the Salmon River. We also visited Yellowstone and Red Lodge, Montana over 20 years ago, just us. It was just before the Sturgis biker rally & we had a wild time. It deserves a short story, that trip. The pics are from his house in St. Anthony, he grew up with his brothers & sisters in that house & transformed it into a beautiful Amil jewel. You are encrusted in the memory of many, Amil! May we remember you with joy & perseverance for truth and justice. Some shots from Solar Eclipse day during and after totality. We were on top of the world in Sioux County, Nebraska. Right after totality all of a sudden we looked up & there was a huge flock of seagulls seemingly floating over our heads. They were kiting on the wind, they were dreamlike & peaceful, almost as though they were made of paper, as if we were in some sort of alternative reality shifting moment by moment into another dimension. We were all quiet and in awe of them, having experienced 2 min & 15 seconds of wonder at the sky, the sun, the moon, colliding, this reality appearing to our minds, so brief, so profound.
